AS question that just popped into my head - so we've heard a lot about rigs, their uses, and the various models they come in, but what exactly are they? To my understanding (which may well be wrong and/or incomplete) they're a back-mounted piece of technology that requires certain body mods to be able to wear, and function as both a life-support system as well as whatever utility purpose the specific model was built for (i.e., the Albatross, Pelican, and Kingfisher models you mentioned in an earlier post all being built for various types of mail delivery tasks).
Follow-up question, how exactly do rigs connect to the body? I'd assume the exact specifics vary from strain to strain, given the diverse bodily morphology of the various post-human species of AS. Kali, Kip, and Lunine aren't gonna wear a rig the same way - at least not to my understanding of how they interact with the wearer.
Rigs are mechanical exoskeletons. They require a standardized form of surgery to wear, but once the basic sockets have been installed, a rig can be anything from a full body suit of industrial equipment that allows for incredible augmented strength, to a simple heart monitor. The power source is generally back-mounted.
The sockets are screwed into your skeleton. And then rig pieces screw into those sockets. There is also a one-way neural uplink in the base of the skull.
Kali, Kip, and Lunine actually do wear their rigs the same way. They are standardized pieces of technology that come in standardized sizes. So even though Kali is 6'4'' and built like a bulldozer, and Kip is 5'5'', they have rig sockets in the same proportional locations on their bodies, and their rigs are fitted to those dimensions.
Lunine is a special case because her rig is religiously significant. Specifically the hand and gauntlet pieces, are chemically bonded with her carapace. So while she can remove the combat bracers, the actual gloves of her Four-Sister LOTUS are a part of her shell. But the rest of her has rig sockets in the normal places.

Got some cool generated names in lifegen (clangen mod) and though they’d be fun to translate! I’ll start with the protagonist and his family. Also sorry if the formatting is off tumblr was acting weird and i had to jump through some hoops to send this.
Rainbowember | Solysskip
Direct, Solyss (Rainbow) + Kip (Ember) I like this name because he’s an insecure healer who took a long time to pass his apprenticeship, so it seems fitting.
Ghostclover | Kepbachafa
I thought this name would make sense as a name for a suspected fading kit who lived. In game she’s a mtf trans Molly, but I decided that she was actually assigned a Gib at birth since the fading kit thing. She later figured out she contained Mollyness.
Tempestecho | Kychkarraoyaawo
This one was pretty direct too, and I think it’s a good candidate for a nickname due to the length. Maybe Kychaawo?
Fintwist | Sseoshigashig
Fintwist kinda brings to mind a fish twisting it’s fin to turn around for whatever reason, so I think dance works for that. Nickname could be Sseoshig.
Curlewback | Byyrbesaofa
Went with the sand martin to keep the shorebird connection! Also, used spine-mane since I couldn’t find a word for back.
Yellowdapple | Aweenkonpen
Direct, not much to say about this one, haha.
Tawnygale | Hrrua-ubafwu
Decided to go with the tawny owl over the color since he isn’t that color, and has a weather suffix. ‘Bafwu’ seemed the closest to gale to me so I went with that.
Logblaze | Chok-kafyar
No I don’t know what this name means either? Sounds like an off-brand Lionblaze.
Fallenbird | Fewlwheer
This name struck me as an Honor title, and he spawned in with a bite scar, which makes that fit even more. I like to think his original names prefix was Wheer, so the Honor title represents how the swift fell, but got back in the air.
Riverlotus | Sbasspowo
I’m glad I managed to find the word for the waterlily, I wanted to show this name off, I love it.
Falconlaurel | Mweeliliprraponma
This was an interesting one, for sure! I wanted to go with an actual falcon species, instead of just going with Raptor/Yassga. This guys a mediator, so I went with the merlin. There wasn’t a word for laurel I could find but I thought that I could translate the vibe, since laurel brings to mind honor and triumph. I decided that, for a mediator, Prra-ness would be an associated feeling/goal, so I chose Primrose (Prraponma) as the suffix because of the winter association example. So his name, could also be translated back as Merlinprimrose, or just Merlinrose for short. Nickname could be Mweeponma?
Springbreak | Mwarussmimanaw
Honestly I just wanted show off that I got a cat named Springbreak. Anyways I went with it being Spring as in the season, and decided that I would use mimanaw (lounge) instead of anything related to breaking/shattering, to make it so that her name basically means a break in Spring. Though, Springbreak could be a good Dishonor title, Yiaokerroch. Jump-shatter, you hurt yourself by springing. Anyways nickname could be Mwanaw.
Branchripple | Baryennipa
I decided to use the future tense of ripple, to make the name mean that she will make the branches ripple. She graduated early, so its to say that she will make an impact.
Fintwist is absolutely drawing me in, fantastic use of the brand new "fin-wing." I've got an image in my mind of one of them decorative dragon koi, swirling around and around.
Koi aren't common in Clan territory, and when they ARE seen they're dealt with, but it's also possible for this one species I like a lot to have a light, shining morph. I should make a special word for that color of Tench when I get there...
Also congrats on Springbreak that's AWESOME I love it. And Logblaze? Sounds like a big bonfire to me! Maybe your cats like to BBQ ThunderClan-style!

Bay Laurel (Laurus nobilis) = Skoka

Bayshine's name is BAY LAUREL-Shine, Skokashem. Oops. I will be repurposing the Wawa word in the Lexicon to a different type of willow.
Cherry Laurel (Prunus laurocerasus) = Reyoka
Both of these are made into laurel wreaths btw, and the wood is burned because it smells nice. This one has red berries and less uses in general, but smells nicer when burned.
Gale = Harloo
A very strong wind.
White Clover (Trifolium repens) = Glem
This is the one you think of when you think of a classic three-leaved clover. It has short, round petals, and its flowers are typically white. This one is favored by grazing animals.
Red Clover (Trifolium pratense) = Powglem
This one has pinkish flowers with longer petals, and is used for medicinal purposes. This is the one used for Cloverfoot's name.

Hello. Do you know of any communities like Discord servers?
Besides that. I was hoping to be able to understand roles better and how they can switch around. I've had very little interaction with the plural community but have been trying to read pluralpedia for the past several days.
It seems like "switching" refers to changing who fronts, but I wonder about switching other roles. I think I have a median system with a core (always fronting) and some fragments that fill roles, one of them being trying to control everything about how the system functions. And that can deeply affect how the core is functioning and takes away things from the core (but such things still belong to the core?).
I was able to remove the fragment from this role once for a time and put another in its place (maybe more of a placeholder to keep the other away than becoming as controlling as the one normally there).
I guess I was just wondering how to think of all this. A fragment who may control memory access, emotion access, create other fragments, force dormancy, etc. I found some useful terminology on pluralpedia but not as much as I would like. I'm wondering less about specific role terminology as much as if there are terms for switching roles (besides for fronting, of course).
Also if you know of any system that functions similarly.

We don’t really use Discord these days, so we don’t have any we’d recommend at this moment. We’re only in one server, but we’re not a mod there so idk how comfortable they’d be with us sharing the invite link here… sorry about that.
As for your other question…
Not all systems use or benefit from roles, but ours definitely does. We have a member with a role we call “gatekeeper,” but she’s more of a manager. She has a lot of control over who fronts, who interacts with who, and who can access certain memories and when. Sounds like this could be a similar role to what you’re describing?
In our system, we rely on her to function. We need a gatekeeper in order to keep us safe and ensure we’re able to front at the right times without getting overwhelmed, and to keep us from accidentally interacting with alters and memories we’re not ready to face yet.
Your fragment may be being controlling because that’s what they think they have to do in order to keep you and the rest of your system safe. Many systems who use roles also have gatekeepers or system managers.
As for a specific term for switching roles… that we’re not too sure of. It may be enough to say that your fragments shift or change roles over time. We have definitely heard about this before, specifically from those who are polyfragmented or who have lots of fragments, parts, or headmates who interact with the world occasionally or in cycles.
If swapping roles is becoming a challenge for your system, or if you’re encountering problems with certain members taking on particular roles, it may be wise to check in with each other, be honest about how you’re feeling, and keep open that line of dialogue. Even the most well meaning of us can’t fix or change what we don’t know is a problem.
However, if y’all are functioning well by changing roles, we don’t think it’s necessarily anything to be concerned about. That may just be how your system works, and that’s okay :)

weird question but are you doing rotational gameplay in your saves? i ask because i want to try it out but really don't know where to start with it and what settings to use in regards to gameplay and i love, love, love your saves so you feel like the right person to ask
Hello anon! This isn't a weird question at all and I’m very flattered that you like my little gameplays. This is probably gonna turn into an old lady ramble below the cut, so buckle in kids. ( ´◡‿◡`)
I currently have two files I play on rotational gameplay in (guiding lights and blooming) because I've always found it easier to become invested in the file, it makes it feel more like a living breathing world. I've done gameplay this way since I first played ts1 all those years ago. I think the biggest thing with rotational gameplay is that you’ll probably have to experiment to see how you like to play this type of file, because there is really no one correct way to play.
That being said, I can think of two ways that you could try the waters with rotational gameplay. The first one being that you start a new save and try playing with some premades households. If you want a more legacy style save, you could start with one core family and slowly build out the families you add into the rotation. This is how guiding lights started where I started with just Sofia/Kip, then added Trista/Joel to the rotation, and eventually Imani/Vincent. The rotation currently looks like this where I rotate the the families out in-game every three days because my gameplay can get big:
Sofia/Kip/Lyra/Liam —- > Trista/Joel —- > Imani/Vincent
When gen two rolls around it will probably look something more like this:
Sofia/Kip —- > Trista/Joel —- > Imani —---> Vincent/Lyra —--> Liam/Redacted/Redacted
A lot of people use spreadsheets to keep track of their family goals, how often they get rotated, etc. Youtube is a good resource for setting up these spreadsheets. I don’t currently make use of one, but you might find one useful.
As for my settings, I think these are the basics:
I can add a resource list for my gameplay mods too if anyone is interested. I won't do genetics because most of my sims have custom skinblends that change as they age.
