can we like. ban the "see results" option it literally makes 99% of these polls completely useless
I know it's frustrating when the results are heavily skewed by responses outside of the target audience, and I'm sorry about that, but no– this isn't something I plan to change.
Short answer:
If you're willing to do some math, you can subtract the "see results" votes and calculate what the actual percentages would be. Most people won't want to do math, and that's fine; without getting fancy at all, if you just ignore the "see results" line entirely, you can still see which options are the highest, which are lowest, etc. The numbers just won't add up to 100%.
Longer answer:
The majority of votes on polls come from people who see it via reblogs (rather than organically in searches or from following this blog). People don't reblog polls unless they get to click a button. If the buttons only allow responses from a limited group, reblogs will be extremely limited and therefore the response pool is too.
Take for example this poll about colorblindness. I forgot to add a "not colorblind" option to the submission, and it got 36 notes and 72 responses. Compare that to any of the polls in the days before and after it; all of those got 1000+ responses. I can't prove anything from that, but it's pretty clear to me that it's related– and that if non-colorblind people had been able to vote on that one, they also would have reblogged, and then the poll would have reached more colorblind people.
In a situation where a poll reaches more of the "in" group because the "out" group got to click a button too, it will always be true that the absolute data is skewed– but the relative data is actually more useful because it polls a larger sample size of the "in" group. Even then, though, it's worth keeping in mind that this blog does not and cannot serve as a genuine research tool; it's a fun way to gather anecdotal data but that is its limit.

admin I salute you for your patience because I get annoyed just seeing a few people blatantly disregard the guidelines idk how you deal with all of them
thank you <3
for anyone just joining us:
most things are in the FAQ/pinned post! I'm reiterating some of it here but read the pinned post!
we are currently in the Hot & Vintage Movie Men Tournament. we are in round 4. I won't be adding anyone else to the bracket.
there will be a ladies poll after the hot men poll wraps. read the submission guidelines and use the form if you have a hot lady in mind.
to submit propaganda, you can rb the poll, tag me in a post, or send it to my asks/submit pages. don't dm me with propaganda. read the FAQ guidelines before submitting, and know that i don't boost all the propaganda I see.
this is not a guideline but know that i love fancams and gifsets. I love educational propaganda that tells us why your fave in particular is special. I avoid posting big photodump asks because they clog everyone's dashes, so I'm more likely to post if you split it into a couple asks. I watch every video I receive before posting so I can add TWs, so please don't send hour-long video essays—I can't post them because I don't have time to watch them.
"what's with all the James Cagney references?" I'm just normal about him, that's all.
"what tf is the shadow realm?" the shadow realm is where all the losers go. occasionally we have a shadow bracket for the fallen hotties that runs beneath the proper tournament.
lastly. remember that my tongue is very much in my cheek and we're here to have a good time and fuck some old men

THE TOURNAMENT SIGN UPS ARE NOW OPEN!
Here we go! Its happening!
For those who are new, this is a transfem Leo art tournament! We all love our girl so much, she deserves a chance to be appreciated and bragged about! The main purpose of this tournament is to give everyone a chance to share their art and an excuse to ramble about our babygirl, we're keeping this light and friendly!
If you're interested in participating, you don't have to worry about being in the interest check first, that was just to make sure we reached the minimum number of participants for the tournament, there is no maximum number, everyone is welcome!
And for those who were in the interest check, I'll be following up everyone who was on the fence soon, and if anyone who was definitely in hasn't submitted their entry by the end of the week I'll be checking on them too, no pressure, just want to make sure nobody is missing out!
Now for the art itself! I have next to no limitations here, as long as its transfem Leo practically anything goes! It can be any TMNT iteration, whether its canon or one you made yourself. AUs are allowed, and any type of art is welcome, digital or traditional, sketched or lined or coloured, whatever you want!
And it doesn't have to be new either, you can make something specifically for the tournament or you can find your favourite drawing of her and submit that! The pressure is low here, if you can't tell.
If you want to draw something to participate but aren't sure if you can finish it in a week let me know and I'll add you to the list of people I'll follow up with after the sign ups close!
And last but not least! Actual submissions! Really, I just need two things:
A link to a post with the art in question, that way I can link to your post as well as show the art! The art will still be shown in the poll post, but I wanna make sure your post gets all the art appreciation and notes
If you've got a name for your transfem Leo be sure to share! For example, mine is Leonora, or Nora for short. I think seeing all the different names for her is fun, and I want to use them in the polls for everyone who has them
And with that, I think we've got everything covered! Sign ups will be open for a week, if you have any questions the asks are open, don't hesitate to come to me if there are any problems!

Yep, it's time to send the dads off to war! Any and all fictional fathers welcome!
Submit your favorite father figures through the form I've got all put together up there, and once we have enough, we'll get them set up for the Brawl™!
SUBMISSION RULES:
Fictional dads only, please! "Your Dad (from Real Life)" is already going to be included by default, so you can focus on your blorbos!
"Dad" is felt in the soul- if you can make a compelling enough case for why your non-biological dad blorbo qualifies, I'll let them in!
Submit as many dads as you want, but only submit each dad once per person!
Please provide a link to an image of each dad you submit, especially if you're in a smaller fandom! (Unless your dad is a disembodied voice or otherwise can't be perceived visually, in which case just lmk instead of linking and I'll work something out!)
We'll be going until we reach 64 dads, but if there's enough extra dads, I might be convinced to do a B-side bracket with the dads who don't make the cut.
I may add a dad or two of my own to the lineup, depending on how many submissions I get, but we'll see how that goes.
Inspired by the likes of @shittycartoondadshowdown @orangecharactersmackdown @sleepsmackdown @baldguy-fight @original-character-championship @ultimate-divorce-tournament @thsc-sexymen-poll @nonbiney-swag-competition and so many more!

hey id suggest removing the mindless self indulgence polls, theyre a famously racist band and multiple members have been outed as sex pests
Hi! Sorry for taking a while to reply to this. We had to formalize our policy on controversial artists, and this post will be both a response to your ask and an explanation of the policy.
Now, the policy is stated in full on the pinned post now if anyone would rather read it there or wants to know where to reference it later. That aside, I'll answer the ask first.
The problem with deciding if an artist/band is unacceptable is even less straightforward than deciding what's unacceptable content. I assume you sent this ask because you saw this ask, published yesterday. That response deals largely with album content, which is to say, something concrete that we can look at and is clear and directly relevant to any individual album poll.
It's unclear from your ask whether only the band members themselves have these problems or if this is reflected in their music as well. IF the latter is the case, and this includes instances of context changing/clarifying the message of the music, then we would like to know!
However, I can't understate how important it is to be clear and demonstrative if this is something you want to do. I understand that you probably mean well, but you can understand that an anonymous ask that makes claims that we then have to verify ourselves could be used maliciously and doesn't really allow us to ask for clarification in return. Whether you're off or on anon, explaining how something concrete and directly relevant like a song lyric is potentially harmful is so much easier to work with.
Now for a more policy-centered discussion:
The unfortunate reality of running this blog is that that there isn't enough time to vet each individual artist, and we as mods don't feel comfortable nor well equipped enough to draw that line for each artist with limited information.
Now, if an artist/band is associated with a hate group or a genre that at its core seeks to do harm (ex. NSBM), that's a clear indicator that everything that they say is in context of that. But if we don't have those indicators, then things become less straightforward.
To this end, we would like to make it clear that no post on this blog is an endorsement, and we do encourage people who are interested in looking into an artist they see on here to vet them to your usual standards to confirm that they're someone you're okay with supporting/listening to. Also, if there's any information you might feel is important for people to know about an artist that you're familiar with, absolutely feel free to add that information in the replies/reblogs so that people can make more informed decisions!
I've also added an option on the submission form if anyone wants to provide a disclaimer or more information about the album they've submitted. This was technically an option before, but it wasn't clear and thus rarely used. There's more information on this in the pinned.
As a general policy going forward, asks like these won't be answered publicly, so if an anon ask is sent, it won't get a response, but if action needs to be taken, we will take it!

EDIT: SUBMISSIONS ARE CLOSED
POWER POLYCULE SHOWDOWN
What's this? ANOTHER contest?? gosh, isn't this getting old? no. i love polls, i love these match ups and if you're like me, and u can't get enough, help me by nominating your favorite polycules!! (Side note: the reason I picked this flag instead of the pi one is because i'm a math hater i'm sorry)
RULES:
It doesn't have to be canon! Headcanons are accepted and encouraged!
This is for polyships/polycules, not individual characters! If you want one for individual characters please check out @polyamorous-swag-tournament!! (No affiliation between us, just wanted to give them a shout out)
No real people. Please don't be shipping real people. Thanks.
Please say the ship name (if there is one) AND the character names. For example: "Fruity Four (Robin/Nancy/Steve/Eddie)" If you don't include the character names it's likely I'll be confused i'm sorry.
EDIT CAUSE FORGOT TO ADD THIS! Please don't submit the same ship multiple times! I can't really check if you do, but I'd lile to trust yall won't. I understand if you rlly want smth to get in, but it's not fair that way
I'll leave the nominations up for a while, no estimated time limit at the moment, and once I have enough I'll close it and start the polls. The goal is for 32 contestants, but I'm not sure how many entries this will get, so I might stop at 16, or less. I'm hoping we get at least 16 :')
This is, as you probably guessed, inspired by many other contests of the same nature, I myself have voted on too many to tag all of them, but the ones that I'm pretty sure are ongoing/starting soon are: @transgenderswagcompetition, @worstcharacterpoll, @autismswagsummit,@adhdswagcompetition ,@adhd-swag-competition (yes there is two, yall should check out both), @bisexualswagcompetition, @bisexual-monarch-tournament, @most-stylish-competition, @gotalittletoosilly (silly guys competition), and the polyam one I tagged in the rules! - some of these are still taking nominations too, so go check em out and nominate ur own lil guys and babygirls <3

Submission PSA
Thank you everyone who has already sent in your submissions and to those planning to make submissions! This bracket literally wouldn't exist without your contributions. I started entering submissions into my spreadsheet today so I can keep track of everyone and their propaganda and there were a few submissions that had some mild issues so just wanted to quickly bring those issues up so we can hopefully keep from repeated mistakes in future submissions. First just a reminder that picture and video propaganda need to be from between the years of 1950 and 2004 and somewhat relevant to their vintage television career (for example please don't include things from movies they've done or things from their career pre 1950 or post 2004). I won't catch everything but if something is obviously outside of these guidelines then it won't make it in as propaganda since this tournament is specifically celebrating these stars during their vintage television careers. I just want to keep things focused and simple for this blog which is why I'm sticking with these restrictions for propaganda. As long as people are being polite you are free to add whatever you wish to convince people to vote for your favs in your own reblogs. Secondly there has been some issues with broken links where some suggested poll picture links are not working on my end of things. Luckily for most of these they are for people with multiple submissions so I'm simply moving down the list and using the next suggested poll pic. So if your picture isn't used for the poll pic or included in the propaganda then it's probably because the link you sent didn't work for whatever reason. If that's the case please feel free to reblog it with the picture you wished to include and let me know so I can reblog it here with your additional propaganda as long as it meets our usual propaganda restrictions whenever the polls go up.
Some broken links are for people who only have a single submission so far though. For those I'll try and keep a list of those and post them after submissions close so the people who submitted them can try and send me the picture they wanted included as the poll picture as an ask before the polls go up. Otherwise I'll just have to use whatever I can find and I want to give everyone's favs their best chance.
Thank you all again for the reblogs, likes, follows, and submissions! I'm really enjoying hearing about your favs from your lovely submissions and I can't wait to share them all with everyone!

SUBMISSIONS CLOSING SOON
First of all, thank you for all these wonderful submissions! I've gotten everything from books I can't believe I'd missed to books I'm sure I never would've discovered without their recommendation. Unfortunately, we are currently at 278 titles, and I'm going to have to cap it. In order for me to feasibly organize this for future competitions, the absolute max I can go for now is 320 titles. That means I have room for 42 more submissions before they are closed. This is a hard cutoff—no sneaking in anything extra. Submissions will probably open up again one day, but we'll have to eliminate some stuff from the list first. Thanks for understanding, and if you want to add anything, now's the time to send it in.
The current list of titles is here. Some are not listed due to Tumblr's stupid character limit (if I want to make a post a mile long, that's my decision!), so I understand if we get some unlisted repeats, but please check it and the current polls before sending anything in!

One Week Update
Hey everyone! We've gotten 186 submissions so far, with 91 unique characters. I'd like to get a few more before submissions close on August 17th!
In order to get to a 128 character bracket, we'll need 37 more unique submissions. If we don't reach that, we may do some round-robin brackets for the first round to ensure that as many characters can get in as possible. I'm not crazy about three-way polls or letting characters skip to the second round, but I'll see what works best for the final count.
A new rule for groups
We have a few submissions that feature large groups of characters, such as "every female character in this game." I've decided to add an addendum to the rules that this is not a valid submission type. Duos/couples are fine, if you feel two or more characters are inseparable and Must be part of the same relationship (eg, we have a submission of Orpheus and Eurydice from Hades, which is a valid submission).
If you've submitted any of those large groups, please submit your favorites individually instead!
A note on propaganda
This bracket will not be accepting negative propaganda. It's just not the vibe I want to cultivate!
Additionally, I will not accept and may edit propaganda that disparage specific existing romance options. For example "I can't believe you can date X but not Y!!" is something I will likely omit. Remember that there's someone out there who absolutely ADORES character X, even if you don't.
Comments about general groups like "you can date all of the men in this game but not your best female friend" or even "I feel like the protagonist has stronger chemistry with this guy than any of the characters you can actually romance" are completely fine!
Thank you all for your submissions and support!
I've had some unexpected medical stuff pop up (well, most medical stuff is unexpected) but I now have proper treatment and will have more time to put into this bracket.
Check out the rules and submit more characters here!

Romantic choices + poll
Glad that I got most of what I had planned for May all done, the quiz will be up tomorrow most likely and I think I might wait before I make a character intro post for Sam and MC. Chapter 1 is coming along nicely, definitely made my life harder with how many variations I want to add but I'm nothing if not stubborn so I'll see it through, don't worry ! Can't give a definitive date but I'm hoping to get it done before July I had an epiphany a week ago and figured out the entire story outline, the endings are still a bit blurry but we seem set for 12 chapters if all goes well :^)
Considering I wanted romance to be a big component in the story, I've been trying to add 4 ways to flirt when you interact with the characters : shy, subtle/oblivious, teasing/playful and serious/stoic.
The first two are more on the 'submissive' side in the sense that you'll let the RO take charge and lead the advances whereas the other two will have the MC act a bit more direct.
Tumblr media
As an example of how the romantic choices will look like; here's what it looks like in one of Killjoy's flirting scene from chapter 1 ~ (this is the neutral variant - there's some differences in the choices and scenes if you're touch-averse or touch-starved) :
You want to but it’s making you nervous to hold hands with a stranger, especially with how charming you find Killjoy. You can feel yourself get hot in the face as they look at you. // shy
"We should keep our hands free." You don’t take their hand but you’re fine looping your arm with theirs, this isn’t a big deal anyway though you won’t deny you find them attractive. // serious
"Sure, it’s pretty dark anyways, we wouldn’t want to get separated." You smile and take their hand, that Killjoy sure is considerate even though you don’t know each other. // oblivious
"Is this just an excuse to hold my hand ?" You giggle and take their hand, despite how nervous you were a minute ago, flirting with Killjoy makes you forget everything else. // playful
Tumblr media
((also, I'll get the mobile friendly faq, taglist and masterlist today sorry I keep forgetting))

For the poor, oppressed, and marginalized self-inserters, for whom a shipper-poor-wo-man-revolution is imperative, here's your sasosaku bread and butter:
-why don't we have mass-murdering-androids-cum-blow-up dolls, the pinnacle of free-market girl-boss-isms? The crypto-sex-revolution is nigh! You can't keep us in the kitchen anymore!
-In my Fix-it (O', Pinocchio…) to let the evvvvil Sasuke have it, I write, my brave face on: Sasori lies and his pokey grows to a harpoon, breaking heart and everything else in the path; he ain't a good little boy! I came…my right-hand, a proud sinner for anti-shipping fan-fictions and your gods!
-Once upon a time, I brought a wooden-art-model, broke my cunt (no jam in the house), and addled my brain beyond google's incognito mode! Health-care should be free; let us live!
I can't add the full sentences because the poll option doesn't allow it, so read the submission!

just submitted a feedback thing to tumblr for the first time in my like... 10 years on this site, which feels crazy
it's wild to think that i've been here through so many changes, the yahoo acquisition, the porn ban, etc, but the shit that they've been doing lately was the final straw to get me to reach out directly
if you want to see my shitty text dump of a feedback submission, it's below the cut. I'm sure it'll probably just get ignored by staff, but I encourage everyone else who's pissed off about the stuff that's been happening to vocalize it in a way that's more direct than just pinging staff. They can't ignore all of us.
I'm generally not the type to send in feedback like this, but I've heard that this is the best way to reach out to staff, so I'm giving it a shot.
The changes being made on tumblr's mobile app are detrimental to the user experience. Altering the way photos and videos are formatted/viewed is unnecessary, and removing the ability to pinch to zoom will negatively impact accessibility.
Changing the mobile layout to have the tumblr mart icon replace the user icon is also a frustrating addition. It is fine to have tumblr mart and to make it accessible on mobile, but putting it in the bottom lineup and moving blog access into the upper corner comes across as an obnoxious advertising attempt. Tumblr mart should be displayed in the upper corner if it's displayed anywhere at all. In its current location, it just feels like an attempt to get people to misclick on it due to muscle memory. I have purchased things from tumblr mart before (blaze, crabs), but the more that it is pushed on users (first the "new" banner, then the sparkles, now the sparkling GIF and the icon being moved on mobile), the less I feel like I want to use it. I'm sure that others feel the same way.
Also, please either get rid of tumblr live or add a way to disable it permanently. I have not seen a single person talk about wanting this feature and it is a huge hassle to snooze it every week.
Tumblr is a website that people enjoy because of its differences. Trying to replicate the features of other social media sites comes across as an unoriginal cash grab at worst and a failure to listen to the userbase at best. Surely there's a way to implement interest checks on these features before rolling them out large scale, especially now that polls exist?
I've been on tumblr since 2012, so I've seen a lot of changes over the years, but the ones taking place recently have stood out as especially questionable. Generally, when major changes have occurred, there has at least been an effort to explain why they are taking place. Even if nothing is reversed from the current setup, could we at least get more announcements stating the reasoning for these decisions being made?
Thank you

Welcome to the HOT AND VINTAGE MOVIE STARS bracket! we are currently voting on the HOTTEST and VINTAGEST male movie stars from 1910-1970. (we will do the ladies next.) Submissions for hot vintage men are now closed, but we are accepting propaganda for those already in the bracket.
Round 3 of the Hot & Vintage Men Tournament will be posted Saturday, January 20th, with some spillover to Sunday, and will last a week. All the round 3 polls can be found and voted on under the tag #round 3. All polls—including previous rounds, the now-finished shadow bracket of hot men who didn’t pass round 1, plus fun mini polls—can be found in the #hotvintagepoll tag. Every poll in the Hot & Vintage Men Tournament is tagged with the hot man in it if you need to search for a hot man in particular.
Between rounds—so any point up to the night of Thursday the 18th—any propaganda for a round 3 contestant sent to my asks may be added to the poll descriptions. I accept video links, photos, and text propaganda, but not gifs at this stage (I can’t copy them into the posts without problems). Once rounds start, any propaganda sent in is posted as its own separate post, searchable under the hot man's tag.
FAQs:
"Where is [my favorite hot man]?" It depends. Have you checked all the polls in the tag? Have you done a tag search for him? If you still haven't found him, either nobody submitted him or he did not fit the criteria of being a movie man from 1910-1970.
"Can I still submit hot men?" No, the submission window has closed. Please do not send in men you wish had made it into the bracket. I can't do anything with those asks and they just make me sad.
"I have hot women to submit!" Amazing! I've posted the submission form for that bracket. Asks submitting ladies don't count—you need to wait until the submission form. DO NOT tag me in hot lady propaganda yet! Do not send any to my asks! Anything that's not put in the submission form doesn't count at this stage.
"I have additional propaganda for the hot men!" Great! Send me an ask or reblog the poll and add your propaganda to it. I don't boost all the propaganda I see or receive, but I try to boost the best of the best.
If you're submitting propaganda for your hot man, I don't accept propaganda that's from beyond the end of this tournament's era (ie don't send me pics of them in the 70s onwards). I also don't accept them performing in TV shows unless it's clearly a cameo where they're playing themselves.
I don't post or boost negative propaganda about any hot man. If you really hate that a certain hot man is winning, send me positive propaganda for their hot opponent. If you think a hot man shouldn't even be included in the bracket because of scummy things they did in their lifetime, please read my take on it here.
If I see repetitive, trolling, and/or bigoted remarks in the comments, I may block you from this bracket. If you want to point out a hot man's flaws or misdemeanors, that's fine, but if I see consistent bad-faith trolling, you will be blocked.
"My FAQ isn't on here :(" send me an ask! I love hearing from you guys—just please check these basics first.
"WHERE ARE THE HOT MEN. I want to see all the hot men competing in one place!!" You can find all the round 1 matchups here (thank you @markwatnae!), and everyone who made it to round 3 below the cut. Thank you for being here! Enjoy the tournament.

OK I'm thinking I might make some little promo posts for the movie submissions before starting the tournament.
I want to make a rule for voting that you shouldn't vote unless you've seen both movies. Obviously I can't enforce that, but I'll add a "see results" button so everyone can feel like a part of it even if you haven't seen everything because frankly that would be ridiculous to expect. I'm hoping to get enough new submissions that even I won't be able to vote on every poll.
But that does mean that by the time it comes to starting the polls, probably most of you will just be sitting there seeing the posters and having no idea what the movies are even about, which I think makes the experience way more boring. So I think if I make these posts (likely with the trailer and some Letterboxd reviews) it can help people to engage either by just having a vague sense of the movie before the polls start, or by making them interested in watching it.
I expect after the first round it will mostly be the more popular movies remaining so likely just the first round will be ones most people can't vote in, but I'd really like to avoid a popularity contest because at that point we might as well just look at box office numbers and find the winner that way. And I love an underdog and far too many of my favourite movies are obscure.

Seeing lists of author recs always really bums me out. I'm not even an author and I'm always thinking "what about these five other amazing writers?" I know people aren't trying to leave anyone out. I can't imagine coming up with a list myself. It just feels ... like people would feel left out? I don't know.
Hi anon,
In the Barisi fandom there are so many authors who write so much high quality content, it’s very difficult to give each author the amount of time they all deserve.
On this blog we try to be inclusive as possible, from the recs we post daily to the themed lists we post semi-regularly. However unfortunately we make errors and we do miss people. We ask if we miss something or you don’t agree with something we put forward to let us know.
We are frequently looking at ways to add additional content to the blog & would love your contributions. We have a submission button if you wish to submit any content to the blog or of course there is the ask button.
Also please remember polls we conduct here are subjective to who contributes. More popular fics are more likely to get voted in by fans than those less popular and just because an author doesn’t get a nod this time doesn’t mean they won’t the next.
We will conduct another fandom fic poll come December and post the results here as well. We’re looking forward to seeing what has changed since the first poll and the launching of the blog and are hoping to get a larger portion of the Barisi fandom involved.
We hope this puts your mind at ease.
Thank you,
The Mods
