I saw your tags from the post a while ago about how the small details in totk Make up for the main story, and while I agree, I gotta say that the things some people say about the story being bare bones or whatever (and BOTW’s story to that extent) just…doesn’t make sense to me. Because I think the problem is with the execution rather than the writing. Like, BOTW was even more bare bones, because it was just a bunch of exposition. Not to say the story wasn’t good because it absolutely is, but it was minimal, imo. Anyway I said all that to say that I personally do think that totk has the better story, but the execution is worse and I think the open world format hurts it. And I think if people could look past that they could see how good it is. But of course that’s all just me. Neither game’s story is particularly great but I love them both. Anyway I did not intend for this to get so long but what do you think about that? I’m just curious 🙂
Sorry this took me a while to respond anon, I was trying to think of a way to respond XD
Yeah, I can definitely agree that the open world aspect hurts the story of Tears. I was thinking about this earlier, and I think Breath of the Wild's story worked because it is so barebones. The developers were able to develop the story around the gameplay, which has always been Nintendo's adjective for both of these games (and probably all of their games, though I am not too much on an expert on that in all honesty) first and foremost. And it worked, for the most part.
I do believe there can be no "perfect" Zelda game, and especially not one that can appease all Zelda fans (even the games that everyone praises to be perfect has their haters, though I guess hate is too strong of a word). I think the main downfall of Tears of the Kingdom was that it couldn't live up to fan's expectations and wants for the Zelda franchise. Tears of the Kingdom was always meant to be BotW+, since the developers had so many ideas for Breath of the Wild they had to make a second game in order to fit all of those ideas, which led to them repeating the same gameplay mechanics as Breath of the Wild.
Don't get me wrong, TotK's gameplay is good since it what made Breath of the Wild good as well, but because it's exactly like Breath of the Wild is what made it sour in the minds of players. I guess for the players who played other kinds of games in between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom allowing them time to do something else, it isn't so bad. But for the players who play nothing but Zelda games or who were late into getting into the Zelda franchise (such as myself) it can be a little... repetitive (and I'm mainly talking about the quests, shrines, and the same mechanic of unlocking a terminal in a dungeon found in both botw and totk). Hence why I was so drawn all to the other world discoveries not unlocked by doing a side quest, which I think is the greatest improvement TotK brought imo.
In terms of TotK's story... I don't hate it exactly, but I will say I will prefer BotW's better. I still kind of need to analyze the story of TotK fully for myself to draw any real conclusions for me; my biggest problem is how it completely erases BotW's story from it's story. Sure, half a dozen years has passed in between games (both in-game and irl) but surely the impact of defeating the Calamity would've left something... bigger. Like, wouldn't word have gone around that Link was the one to have defeated the darkness looming the castle? They could've at least acknowledged him directly instead of pulling a Tony Hawk and saying "oh you have the same name as that guy who defeated that evil some time ago". I will give them the benefit of the doubt, but then again everyone knows Zelda and he has never her side so, ???. Sorry, didn't mean to rant there. It was kind of a frustration I felt along with many others while playing the game. Main story-wise I don't have any real issues other than you're seriously telling me that there was another ancient civilization before the previous civilization that had even more ancient technology? It kind of pushes my suspension of disbelief (and once again repeating things from BotW).
Anyways, thank you for sharing your opinion anon! Once again I am immensely sorry it took me this long to come to it; tldr in my opinion I prefer Breath of the Wild's story over TotK's. You do make a lot of good points that I agree with, but I think it boils down to personal preference over which game is better due to how similar the games are, which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on opinion.
Thank you so much for reaching out and discussing this with me!

Playing open world games is so fun with adhd because every chest I open is a happy surprise. There’s cool things around every corner. And I can replay them without it losing any of its charm because I can’t remember shit about fuck. Big things? Yes. Way points? Sure. Every little detail? Nope. Nah. I’ve never found this chest before and it’s very fun that it’s here. There’s a mini boss that I never realized existed very close to the start point. Just poking shit and finding stuff that I either didn’t find in the first place or just completely forgot about is like a whole new adventure and also gives me the good feeling brain juice. Thank you for coming to my TED talk

idea: all i can think of is , modern reader who for some reason can execute a bunch of the exploits/speedrun strategies from the LoZ games for some reason. like from OOT or BOTW everyone else: WHY ARE YOU SO FAST?!" meanwhile reader who's just shuffling backwards oot style "magic"
it's a stupidly funny idea i've had in my head for like- a week now and can't help imagining the chain just absolutely losing their shit like- that shouldn't be possible
Alright speed racer, this one’s for you.
Characters: the chain x modern!reader
A/N+Warnings: N/A, safe for everyone. Written by Mishwanders - pls do not repost.
A speedrunner in their universe would be the epitome of a chaos wizard to them.
You are doing the impossible/moving so fast towards the main goal that they might have to physically restrain you from taking down Ganondorf yourself with nothing but a stick and just pure audacity.
Wild would absolutely LOVE YOU though, he understands your method the most and why it’s chaotic.
The others are down right worried for you though. Especially Time and Warriors - they don’t want you hurting yourself by accident, which has happened a lot.
Sky gets it but he does not understand where you found all that energy to run to enact your vengeance.
Four would also be down for your insane methods of speeding through, mainly when he’s split into the Colors. They would be cheering you on separate, hiding behind their hands when close calls happen, etc. etc.
So would Wind, tbh, he’s legit cheering for you to speed through it faster.
Twilight, like his ancestor, major facepalm at your efforts. He’s not even 100% sure how you’re even doing this.
Legend is timing you to see if you can beat your record.
Hyrule is waiting on the side lines with potions just in case you get knocked on your ass and/or injured.
The bugs in the grass leap out of your vicinity, a guardian is scared of you, the gloom hands don’t even dare to touch you - you are Hyrule’s biggest menace, a force that even the calamity is unmatched for.

UR COMMENT ABT AMARI’S COOKING ENDING UP LIKE THE DUBIOUS FOOD FROM BOTW IS SOCUTE ND FUNNY I HAD TO DRAW IT
Tumblr media
i think sebastian would eat it with a (strained) smile on his face just for her 😭
OH MY GOSSSH 💖💖💖 SFSJDHS THIS IS PERFECT LMAOO THANK YOU!!
Sebastian definitely does most of the cooking 😭 Sometimes they cook together, but it's mainly so that Seb can keep an eye on what she's doing. There are times where Amari goes into the kitchen unsupervised though, and when he catches her he's like "What... WHAT IS THAT??"

I RETURN BEARING DOODLES OF ZE KEIK!
Hello again! :D I felt like drawing Keiki because I had nothing else to do and I also wanted to draw Keiki again because C R E A T E !
{Artists Note}:
So I had some ideas bouncing around for how I wanted to draw Keiki, and the first time I went with a more robotic look that was inspired by BoTW. I also wanted an excuse to try out some stuff with collages, and so I used an 1800s drawing of a skeleton to put this together. I added a face and a head just for fun, but tbh I wasn't 100% happy with it even though I did like how it looked. I might wanna save the BoTW inspired parts for a future Okina design as I think the constellation motiffe some BoTW Sheikah stuff has fits her more (and I have adopted the headcanon that she has prosthetics, I love it so much).
Like ok, context for this is headcanons. So as I mentioned in my post about Eirin, I wanted to play around with the visual idea of gods in Touhou being very much related to what they're gods of.
So at first with Keiki I tried just making her look like a haniwa herself, but I ended up not going with that as I like the idea of her being distinguishable from the Haniwa she creates. So instead, I ended up going with a more cyberpunk aesthetic for her, inspired in part by Cyberpunk Edgerunners (no spoilers plz, I haven't finished it yet). It's also the reason why I did an alternative cyberpunk outfit for her (inspired by a dress I found on Pinterest).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I feel like the hardest things about drawing Keiki are her dress and hair bandanna. In the image above with her normal outfit, I had a lot of struggle with the sleeves, and I couldn't really get her hair bandanna right. In the faces I drew of her I had a slightly easier time, but still, it's hard to get it to look right. However in the alt design I gave her I somehow managed to make it look right??? Don't know what I did there but I actually like how it looks, so I'll keep what I did there in mind for the next time I draw her.
Speaking of her alt design, it was actually a lot of fun for me to do. I imagine that's her more "official" outfit, don't know what she'd where it for but I mainly drew it on her because i had a cool idea ok?
Also, on the day I drew her initial face render, I had watched Serial Experiments Lain and I think those vibes bled into the sketch version. Upon further inspection of the rendered and coloured version it kinda lost that but it's more to try out a different brush for my style.
Also also, I experimented with giving her earrings! Which didn't make it to the final cut, but still wanted to try it out! This also came as a learning experience on what makes Keiki look like Keiki... it's the hair bandanna, every time she doesn't have it, she doesn't look like herself.
To end it off, I think the unhinged Keiki face I drew for her expressions (since everyone I've been drawing recently has kinda all been lookin like varitations of this face -> (o _ o) gonna need to draw more expressions period actually, need practice on that) is now my favourite unhinged Keiki face I've ever drawn LOL. Expect more Keiki sketches in the future because I do love drawing my beloved blue haired blorbo.

would your botw/aoc shiek be masc like in oot? trans masc shiek?
Ahh, great question! I'll preface my answer by saying I didn't play OOT yet, and actually my knowledge of Sheik as a character is extremely limited to the Hyrule Warriors version and how THAT Sheik was realized as Zelda.
When designing Sheik for BOTW/AoC Zelda, limited to the info I know, I designed this Sheik as a disguise for Zelda to break away from Link's watchful eye to find other ways to defeat the Calamity, as her powers hadn't awoken. The outfit is mainly pieces of clothing Zelda took from Impa, hence the more feminine clothing and presentation. She's put under extreme pressure to awaken her powers, (Based on the Age of Calamity Zelda depiction), but is also forced under such a watchful eye, that she's unable to really push herself to awaken them on her own, so it's her means to get away and not feel... useless.
Though, saying this, I fucking love Sheik as a character. I have yet to play OOT, but growing up with Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I fell for Sheik as a disguised Zelda, and the masculine appearance Sheik gave. I'm just not of full knowledge of OOT, though I have it for my 3DS and intend to progress in it (I'm stuck in the first dungeon LMAO). Once I truly meet Sheik, I'm sure my HC and feeling towards the character will change, and how I'd depict Zelda as Sheik in BOTW/TOTK.
Hope this answer was okay! I apologize for not knowing much! I personally love any HC, and if people made trans masc Sheik with BOTW/AOC Zelda... my heart would be so happy! I'd like to draw a masc version soon, based on the sheikah outfit Link is able to collect in the games. Since these drawings were limited to "Zelda stole from Impa", I didn't explore a more masc design, which to me isn't fully fulfilling as I adore the OOT design the most.

I have another question! (Sorry if this is a
weird ask). I read a lot of your LoZ fics and love how you write the different pairings. I was wondering your thoughts on Sidon x Link? I haven't really seen any long fics with them and was wondering if that could be a possibility? Unless it's just not your cup of tea. Thanks again! <3
This is absolutely not a weird ask. lol No worries.
I enjoy Sidon/Link and I've written for them before. Hell, Sidon really comes as an oblivious guy with an insane crush in TotK. Like, chill, man. rofl It's incredibly easy to imagine everyone in Zora's Domain thinking that Sidon and Link actually had something going on (with Yona's full and enthusiastic support).
Overall, an enjoyable but possibly too-sweet ship? A little too easy? Not the right type of tension for me? Ironically, Sidon's enthusiastic adoration of Link, which is a great reason for their ship, is a turnoff to me actually shipping them. I love some snark, conflict, tension, etc.
TotK (and Yona) helpfully point out some things which could lead to some fractures in their outwardly idyllic relationship. Mainly, Sidon doesn't like conflict. He really, really doesn't. He does his best to be happy and to cheer others up. He avoids conflict and things which could lead to conflict. He smiles brightly and sparkles and is bright and extravagant and wants to pay attention to the happy and positive stuff, not on conflict and potential loss.
Link in turn is the type of guy who doesn't deal with that crap. Not "doesn't put up with it" like Yona. He doesn't deal with it. At all. Sidon avoids his responsibilities? Fine, whatever. Link will handle it. No conversation. No fuss. No making Sidon actually deal with the issues at hand like Yona forced him to do. There's no indication that it even occurs to Link to try to open Sidon's eyes. That's not how Link works. If there's an issue, Link doesn't bitch. Hell, it can be argued that he barely plans. He just handles it. One of the themes in TotK is that Link isn't alone, but when you get right down to it, Link would have done the whole thing alone without complaint or objection or even really asking for help. Zelda asked for him. People volunteered. People literally threw themselves into battles where he had otherwise been fighting alone.
There's a running gag in BotW and TotK that no one recognizes Link as the Hero and Champion. It's even funnier in TotK because he has spent so long saving and helping people and acting as Princess Zelda's Knight. As funny as it is, though, I would argue that there's a good reason for it: when Link is acting as Zelda's Knight, he plays the proper role and wears the highly visible Champion Blue, similar to Tony Hawk needing his skateboard to be recognized. Otherwise, he's just Link: the guy who wanders off and happens to come back to the stable riding a buck. The weird, quiet, but helpful guy who occasionally needs to scrub the cooking pot before anyone else can use it. Link and the Champion are as different as Clark Kent and Superman. Link doesn't really like to stand out. He doesn't like to draw attention to things. If there's a problem, he just quietly fixes it instead of pointing out that someone else really, really needs to handle their own shit.
On that note, it's Link being the Hero of the Wild and Champion which makes Link safe to Sidon, almost naively so. It's possible that Sidon's struggle with conflict stems from the traumatic loss of his sister at a young age. He avoids Yona in TotK because he is struggling with the fear of losing her like he lost Mipha and, again, can't deal with conflict. He hides instead and insists that he's performing another important duty. Unlike Mipha, Link came back. He literally came back from the dead, avenged Mipha, and defeated the Calamity. I think it's telling that, of all the moments to commemorate, Sidon chose when Link was being a powerful warrior with Sidon, proving his strength, proving that he was with Sidon and wasn't going to be easily defeated by the thing which took Mipha away from him. Again, pretty damned naive and feeds well into Sidon's deliberate and energetic optimism. The beginning of TotK proved how easily Link could fall. It doesn't matter. While Sidon is clearly fretting over Yona and about possibly losing her in TotK, he doesn't fret over Link like that. Link has proven that he's safe. That conflict that he has with Yona doesn't exist with Link, even if it possibly should.
So you have two guys who handle conflict in really unhelpfully opposing ways. There's the bonus that Sidon would probably tell himself that everything was great, there was no conflict at all, and Link probably wouldn't even recognize the actual nature of the conflict because he's so used to just shrugging and quietly handling matters himself.
Yona -- or someone like Yona -- being there helps with another hurdle in their relationship: I can't imagine the Hero of the Wild being trapped in a formal position like being the primary partner of a Prince/King. A good chunk of his backstory (even if it tends to get overshadowed by Zelda Angst) is how much the weight of being the Knight and Hero and Hylian Champion with all eyes on him fucked him up. He actually gives -- in canon -- a reason for being so quiet, and it's directly related to that stress. Sidon having a dedicated partner and Queen like Yona take the formal role while Link continues to be the Hero of the Wild would be helpful.
So yeah, I would absolutely be open to writing the ship. I've written them before, if not that many fics. The challenge, especially in regards to a long!fic, would be navigating these hurdles to create a solid, believable relationship while also writing interesting, in-character, plot-focused tension. Like, is there miscommunication based on a romcom trope or is there miscommunication because Sidon is willfully refusing to communicate and Link lacks the skills? How would Link react if he was forced under the spotlight again? How would Sidon's enthusiastic adoration and cheer react if there was actual conflict with Link, since we never actually see that in canon?
If you want just short and sweet fluff for these two? Very easy. Writing something longer and dealing with these things would require more time and thought. lol Definitely possible, though.

It is kind of a curse having played video games for so long (my entire life from around age 4) that I'm simply not bad enough to have many funny experiences to talk about. I rarely struggle due to two decades of ingrained instincts of game design tropes. "I beat this without struggling at all" just doesn't lead to many interesting moments, so I only talk about story and characters and ships that I'm interested in.
The main reason I basically only talk about Link and Zelda isn't because it is my *sole* enjoyment of the game (far from it, actually. I enjoy every aspect of the gameplay), but because (at risk of offending people) ...I just don't find the other characters very interesting? It's ironic to say that, because Link doesn't have that much explicit characterization himself, but I find his backstory and what we do know about him and what he goes through to be compelling and relatable. The main story of botw & totk (while yes, it is also about their connections to Hyrule and their friends), is mostly Link and Zelda's story, anyway.
I did like the champions, especially Urbosa and Revali (yes, I am a Revali sympathizer), but they're all dead now and barely mentioned in totk, so I don't have much to say there.
I liked Mineru, Rauru and Sonia, but we barely got to know them. I did like the implication that Mineru let Zelda ride around her construct in the past, and did experiments together (though, I kind of wish that had been a cutscene).
Ganondorf is cool looking and all, but he wasn't a super compelling villain or anything. Not that he really he needed to be for me. He's the big bad boss you fight and that's fine by me.
I like Purah, but she is more of a supporting cast member (and comedic relief in AoC and botw). She was also a lot more interesting in AoC, tbh.
Paya... did absolutely nothing and had very little actual growth. It honestly really disappointed me that her character seems to exist just to stand around and look pretty. Tauro exists, I guess?
Sidon was honestly very flat to me compared to how he was in AoC, and I'm just not interested in him at all in the way other people are (I lean towards women and don't find anthropomorphic animal characters attractive. I honestly feel nothing at all when I look at Sidon. I'm sorry if that upsets somebody). I liked Yona's design the most out of any of the Zora designs so far, but I don't really feel any type of way about her. I did like that she encouraged Sidon.
I like Riju, but I really don't like her being sexualized, which is what a lot of people seem to do when she is brought up.... so I'm a little scared to talk about her character lol.
Yunobo is Yunobo. I don't hate him but there's not much to say about him (except for when he became a drug overlord for a moment lol). He fulfills the same role as Daruk as the goofy goron bro and that's fine.
Teba unfortunately didn't really do much this time, but It was nice seeing Tulin grow up and come into his own in totk.
...and that's about it. Again, the main story mainly focuses on Zelda (Which I don't mind, she's my favourite. I'm shamelessly Princess Zelda biased), so I'm just a bit passive about everyone else.

For the Avians you’ve already posted, what are their favorite foods?
AHHH! I'm sorry my friend! I swear I saw this ask the day you sent it I've just been slacking because I started a new file for BOTW. 😅 Anyways! All their favorite foods are all the recipes you can make in BOTW because Wild is the one that mainly makes their food and also because it's easier that way.
Time - Warm Milk Meaty Rice Balls. "The sweet and spicy meat stuffed into these rice balls will keep you full for some time." Time to me just seems like the kind of guy that enjoys food that he can eat with one hand. That on top of the practical element that this food keeps you full for some time just seems like something he would enjoy and prefer to eat while on the road.
Twilight - Pumpkin Stew. "Simply simmer a fortified pumpkin to make this dish. A favorite in Kakariko Village." This man canonically made pumpkin stew in his adventure so this is his favorite food mainly because it reminds him of home and also because it's one of the only foods he is actually able to cook.
Sky - Salmon Risotto. "Restores your health and temporarily increases your maximum hearts. The rice used in this rich risotto permeates the light flavor of the salmon." I don't even have a solid explanation or reason for this one I just feel it in my soul that Sky loves seafood. Turns out there's not a lot of fish when you live in the sky.
Warriors - Carrot Cake. "Even those who don't like carrots tend to enjoy the mild sweetness of this cake." Ironically, I don't think this is Warriors' favorite food because of taste, but more because of the memories he associates it with. I'm a huge supporter of the "Warriors is a Momma's boy" agenda and I headcanon that his mom made carrot cake for his birthday every year when he was young and that's why he still loves it to this day.
Legend - Apple Pie. "The crispy, flaky pie crust and sweet apples are a match made in heaven." Listen, I know the Zelda manga aren't technically canon but neither is this Winged AU so I can believe what I want in my heart. Anyways, in the A Link to the Past manga his whole goal is for his apple orchard to succeed so I'm a firm believer that Legend LOVES anything with apples, but apple pie holds a secret special place in his heart.
Hyrule - Monster Cake Creamy Heart Soup. "Enjoying this sweet soup with another person will bring you both closer together." Hyrule is such a sweetheart with so much love to give you cannot convince me that his favorite food wouldn't be the creamy heart soup. Also the fact that hearty radishes are one of the best ingredients to replenish hearts fits with his whole fairy/healing agenda.
Wild - Wildberry Crepe. "Sweet, tart wildberries are folded into thin, springy dough to make this dessert." Aside from literal rocks, I just feel like this would be his favorite "treat yourself" comfort food. Other than that, I don't really have solid reasoning for this choice other than the fact that I think he deserves to have nice things and also because this is my favorite thing to make in BOTW.
Four - Curry Rice. "A favorite all over Hyrule, this simple dish has a flavor you just won't get tired of." I headcanon that Four is a pretty easy guy to please when it comes to food. He's basically four racoons in a trench coat so it's pretty easy to guarantee that SOME PART of him will like whatever he is eating, though he does tend to favor slightly spicier foods.
Wind - Seafood Meuniere. "Rich butter flanks fresh seafood. The secret ingredient is lots and lots of love." Now go ahead and try to tell me that that description is not something his Grandma would say. Try it I dare you lol. Anyways that phrase combined with the fact that it is a seafood dish just SCREAMS Wind to me.
Anyways, these are all just my personal headcanons! Let me know if you all had any other ideas or headcanons in mind! 😊

LoZ Gender Ideas
Note: These are my headcanons! I just like to take details from the canon and run with them as far as they will take me. Feel free to use these ideas if you want! Also only the OoT Link and Saria one has images because I’m tired. Put some Subway Surfers on if you get bored of all of the text /lh /j
Zelda/Sheik (OoT) - he/him
In Ocarina of Time, Zelda disguises himself as Sheik for seven years. That is a very long time to purposefully disguise yourself as a different gender. I don’t believe he even knew how long it would be until Link woke up. For all he knew, Link might never have come back.
He could’ve disguised himself as a Sheikah woman, but seems to have chosen to be a man.
The manga version is a little iffy, but Zelda seems to agree to Impa’s plan of having his conscience rest to “become that of a Sheikah boy”.
“Now, what about when he reveals himself as Princess Zelda and stays that way for the rest of the game?” You might ask.
I think it might’ve been to quickly relay information to Link.
He revealed himself as Zelda in the Temple of Time right before Link was to go defeat Ganondorf. It would’ve wasted valuable time to explain that he had transitioned from Zelda to Sheik. (Also, he was immediately kidnapped by Ganondorf)
He is also the one who sends Link back to the Child Timeline, so he probably knew that  they wouldn’t stay to get to know this particular version of himself.
Zelda/Sheik (HW) - they/them
In Hyrule Warriors, Zelda seems to disguise themself as Sheik for no apparent reason.
They are constantly referred to as the “Sheikah youth”, no gender being assigned to them.
My headcanon is that Zelda saw a chance to temporarily escape the shackles and expectations of “Princess Zelda”, and that they could truly explore themself for a little while.
Sheik has many lines talking about how they will be playing some sort of music, or even historical uses of music. Zelda’s lines mainly focus on the others around them. So, maybe their dream was to be a historian or bard?
Link (BotW/TotK) - he/they
In Breath of the Wild, Link is very androgynous.
However, I noticed that he doesn’t seem to identify as a woman in any way.
They seem to like traditionally “girly” things (ie. nail polish, being called “pretty”). But, when someone asks him if he’s a woman (Riju wonders about the Hylian Champion being a vai), he seems to become possibly uncomfortable and corrects them. They also seem shocked and scared when someone realizes they are not a vai (the one Hylian in Gerudo Town, the shopkeeper in the secret shop).
He doesn’t even keep the Gerudo Vai set in Tears of the Kingdom.
Fado (OoT/WW) - he/him
In Ocarina of Time, Fado is a Kokiri that seems fairly cryptic during the medicine quest.
In Wind Waker, Fado is the Wind Sage.
Interestingly, even though they share the same name (and in my opinion, look similar) they use different pronouns.
Lots of people (myself included) see this and head canon that they are indeed the same person, but he transitioned to a boy between the events of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker.
Bonuses!
Or, more accurately, fun things I noticed that I have no clue how to interpret, lol
Link (FSA) - idk I avoided assigning pronouns cause I can’t decide
In Four Swords Adventures, Link is able to go into Gerudo Town without any problems whatsoever.
Granted, this seems to be a point in time where the Gerudo are trying to forge relations with the rest of Hyrule, and they could’ve gotten rid of that law. But, that law is in effect in BotW, and I doubt that the Gerudo would get rid of the law only to bring it back later. So, it would make sense that the law is still in effect during Four Swords Adventures.
So, either, the Gerudo assumed that Link was not a boy (possible) OR that Link is not a boy in this incarnation (also possible). I don’t know which of these options I will be using, but feel free to use this as you want to!
Link and Saria (OoT) - they/them?
In Ocarina of Time, the Kokiri all wear very similar clothing.
Tumblr media
The girls wear a tunic with a brown belt, brown boots, and a headband. The boys wear a v-neck shirt with shorts, green boots, and a cap.
Interestingly, Saria and Link both don’t follow these rules.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Saria wears shorts, green boots, and a headband. Link wears tunic with a brown belt, browns boots, and a cap.
This seems to suggest that Link and Saria don’t fall into the gender binary. What gender does this make them? IDK, this is just something interesting I noticed.
Link (AoL) - he/she?
In the Adventure of Link, Link is able to transform into a fairy. This fairy form looks identical to any other fairy, including the feminine body figure.
This seems to suggest she’s genderfluid to an extent? Since it’s only when she is a fairy?
He also seems (relatively) fine with becoming the king of Hyrule? (though, I guess that Elizabeth Swann from PotC was a king as well, lol)
IDK. Just an interesting thing I noticed.

Hero of Power & Hero of Shadow
Q&A for some of my OC Links! :D mainly just to help me parse out their differences for everyone’s edification ❤️
Who are the Hero of Power and the Hero of Shadow? Well, they’re the same character! Just like AoC and BotW have the same Link, but they live in parallel timelines. (AoC Link’s backstory—like how he gets the Master Sword—differs from canon backstory for botw Link, ergo they’re parallel timelines) Power lives in the Calamity Timeline, where Hyrule Warriors and Age of Calamity exist, while Shadow lives in the disaster canon timeline.
How are they alike? They’re both half-Sheikah/half-Hylian, they both grew up in Sheikah culture, they have very similar personalities from the get go, though differing circumstances shapes them differently. They look the same at the same age too. They both are heavily involved with both the royal family of Hyrule and the royal family of the Gerudo - they help protect the Hyrule royal family (tho they’re not personally close to the reigning monarchs in their teenage years), and they both date Ganondorf’s daughter, Hemisi, and are both engaged to her and grow close to her family. They were both 15 when war broke out.
How do their stories differ? Shadow met Hemisi a few years before Power, and the two got engaged before the Imprisoning War, allowing him to get really close to her and her family. Power was dating Hemisi before the Imprisoning War, but didn’t get engaged with her until during. Speaking of the war, Shadow died during the war, which only lasted a few months. Power survived, having fought in the war for two years. He goes on to live a fairly long life after that. Also, Power had a piece of the Triforce while the Triforce isn’t utilized at all in Shadow’s era. Power used the Master Sword and lived in an era that was very aware of the legends of the Hero, whereas Shadow did not use the sword and was just the guy who stepped up to fight and was one of the best warriors for the job.
A fun fact about both of them! They honor their Hylian background, but they were predominantly raised Sheikah. As such, they follow its customs and rules. One Sheikah custom during their eras was that there was no age of adulthood - it was about passing certain trials. Both Links passed their trials at age 12, making them adults in the eyes of the Sheikah.
A fun fact about Power! He was among the first Sheikah to use guardian weapons, and he encourages Sheikah technology to advance once he marries Zelda and becomes king consort. His encouragement and sponsorship is what leads to the guardians and towers and the Divine Beasts.
A fun fact about Shadow! His first kill was a stealth assassination/hit mission when he was 14. The king, who had been keeping a close eye on the Gerudo, learned of a possible attack and sent Link to handle it. Shadow found the team of three women and eliminated them before they could ever get close to the castle. Gan & Nabooru claim the women were rebels so they got off with their hands clean, and Shadow never says he’s the one to kill them, but Ganondorf suspects it’s the case.

By far the biggest flaw in BOTW's storytelling is its distribution of information. Its poor utilization of the flashbacks single-handedly turns a story that easily could've been great into one that's barely mediocre.
When creating a story, you need to decide 1) what information you want to put in it, and 2) where you want to put that information. Your choices can make or break your story on a fundamental level. Example one: if your story hinges on deconstructing a complex magic system, but then fails to explain this magic system to the audience, your story will completely fall apart. Example two: if you decide to open your story with a plot twist that'll be revealed halfway through, and then still try to pretend like the audience doesn't know what'll happen, your story will be very poorly received by an annoyed audience. However, if you reveal this twist and then utilize it as a sword of Damocles hanging over the characters' heads as they inch ever closer to it, it can create a unique tension. Which information you reveal and how you reveal it is a foundational aspect of storytelling.
BOTW, being an open world video game, can't really create a traditional linear story structure. Its information distribution is different than that of a movie, book, or even linear video game. BOTW has five avenues to distribute information: 1) main story cutscenes, 2) flashbacks, 3) NPC dialogue, 4) environmental storytelling, and 5) infodumps scattered throughout the world.
The first three speak for themselves, I don't feel like I have to explain them. With 'infodumps scattered around the world' I mean things like the Zora plaques and the diaries you can find; things you have to stop and read out in the world. I define 'environmental storytelling' primarily as location design; for example, the Guardian graveyard around Fort Hateno speaks to a fierce battle that then suddenly ended as Guardians failed to advance, information you can gather just from looking at it well before anyone tells you this. I distinguish this from NPC dialogue and infodumps because it's a completely wordless method of distributing information that essentially every person who plays the game will pick up on, regardless of whether they go out of their way to gather it or not.
Between these methods of distribution, main story cutscenes and environmental storytelling are the most reliable ways to distribute information. Your average player can be expected to watch at least most of the main story cutscenes, and since BOTW is a game about exploring, nearly all players will be exposed to environmental storytelling. Flashbacks are semi-reliable, in that most players can be expected to get at least a few of them, though a lot will probably not go out of their way to gather all. Lore dumps in the form of NPC dialogue and books/plaques/magazines/etc. are the least reliable, as a good chunk of players is simply not going to care about the story enough to read and seek them out.
The main story cutscenes do a fine job at explaining the basic story to the player and providing a bit of pathos for the Champions, which is their main job. I don't have much to say about them. But the real story of Breath of the Wild isn't really about calming the Divine Beasts and defeating Calamity Ganon; it's about what happened a hundred years ago. The story in the present matters, but is only a small percentage of the real picture.
The story of a hundred years ago lies primarily in the flashbacks, of which there are eightteen. Information is also distributed through certain diaries (most notably Rhoam and Zelda's), environmental storytelling, and NPC dialogue (mainly through Impa and some Zora NPCs). It is significantly more difficult to tell the story of the past than of the present, both because it's a lot more complex, and because there are fewer avenues to do so. As such, you need to be especially careful chosing what information you give where; flashbacks are the most complete way to distribute information, but environmental storytelling is the most universal. What information do you want most players to know, and what information is only really relevant to those already interested in the story? How do you maximize the information players receive?
This is where Breath of the Wild's story ultimately falls apart. It does a tremendously poor job recognizing what parts of the story are complex and important enough to be put in the flashbacks, and which information should instead be given through books and dialogue. It does not utilize the environmental storytelling to its full potential, either, though I won't be getting too much into that because it's the least egregious issue and this is already gonna be like a ten page essay. Instead, I'll focus on the flashbacks and, to a lesser extent, the books and dialogue.
First, to successfully write a story like this, you have to identify what information to put in the flashbacks, and what information you can give via environmental storytelling, books, or dialogue. Impa is capable of telling you about basic plot information from a hundred years ago, the Zora NPCs cover Mipha and some of Link's personal life, and the books give a more direct insight into Zelda and Rhoam's thoughts. However, these extra diaries will only be read by players already interested in the lore, so they should contain information that adds to what has already been established in the flashbacks; load-bearing information that the player needs to know should be present instead in the flashbacks and, where possible, environmental storytelling.
The flashbacks are structured as eighteen different scenes that should be able to stand alone, because they might be viewed in any order. Most of the scenes are dedicated to Zelda, which is a decent choice; you will gain information on the Champions through dialogue and the main story cutscenes, so they are less of a priority. It is harder to gather much meaningful information about Zelda through those, so prioritizing her in the flashbacks is a natural choice. That said, the few flashbacks we have of the Champions should absolutely provide information that couldn't have been gained from present day dialogue/cutscenes, especially seeing as there's only one for each. Likewise, information about Zelda already given via the flashbacks does not need to be repeated in books, since players who sit down to read those can be reasonably presumed to have either gathered all flashbacks already or be interested in doing so.
So, to summarize: the job of the flashbacks is to contain important information the player couldn't gather via dialogue or other present day infodumps. Things like characterization of Zelda, private scenes between Zelda and Link, and characterization details for the Champions should be prioritized here.
Important also: there are eighteen scenes. There is a hard limit on what information you can put in the flashbacks. When you have this few scenes to tell a story, you need to be ruthless in your prioritization of information. You need to put the most interesting, most important, most complex information in the flashbacks, and spread the rest through books and dialogue.
So. Why is there a flashback dedicated to showing monsters are acting up in the lead-up to Calamity Ganon's return? Like. That could've been an email, or, you know a diary entry. The only other thing the Eldin flashback provides is the knowledge that Zelda and Link are friends, that Zelda cares for Link, and that Link can be reckless when fighting. The first two are things we can see just as if not more clearly in other flashbacks, and the last is something that easily could've been put in the diary entry. Furthermore, 'monsters are acting up in the lead-up to Calamity Ganon's return' is information we could (and probably did) easily gather ourselves from seeing how the monsters are acting in the present day, with NPC dialogue informing us they are unusually active and Calamity Ganon having a clear direct effect on them via the Blood Moon. This information would've been nice flavoring in a diary entry; as a memory slot, it's wasting precious time and actively undercuts the story by doing so. This memory slot could've been used to show important information; instead, it's a complete waste of time.
This is just one example; Breath of the Wild is littered with memories that do little more than either repeat information established elsewhere or outright waste time, at best giving us irrelevant information, and at worst giving us nothing at all. Particularly egregious examples are the Mipha flashback, which does not provide us with any new information about her aside from maybe her healing, which is information that should've absolutely been previously established via dialogue instead and is established via other means elsewhere; the Kara Kara Bazaar flashback, which gives so little information as to be near useless (especially when this information is then later repeated in Zelda's diary for some reason) yet is still placed in such a way as to be basically unmissable and covers a load-bearing point in the story; and the one where Zelda reads off a travel itinerary, talks about basic Divine Beast facts we already know, and cuts out right at the point where we start to get into anything actually interesting.
Not all flashbacks are bad; some are mediocre, and some are outright great. But far too many flashbacks waste time repeating information or giving far too little, which eats away at the precious few scenes BOTW has to tell its story. I would consider the four scenes I just mentioned to be completely useless; memories tree and eight (travel itinerary and Eldin respectively) are useless to the point where you could outright cut them without missing anything real, and the other two are poorly written to the point where they are wasting space despite having an important part in the story.
However, I would only consider nine of the memories to be genuinely well-written, if I'm being generous (eight if I'm not, the swing vote being memory one). These are memories eleven through eighteen minus fourteen, multiple of which give important plot information that couldn't have been as effectively given in others ways, all of which provide characterization and/or additional context to plot events that couldn't have been given through other means. Also included is the frog memory, which contains no plot information, but shows what Zelda is like when she isn't stressed, an important part of characterization that, again, couldn't have been established nearly as effectively elsewhere. Memory one is very interesting in a lot of ways, but I feel like it's not as strong as the others and could've used a little more meat on its bones (for example: what does Mipha think of all this?). Ultimately, though, I do think it's interesting enough to be considered above average.
The rest of the memories are middling, basically passable to the point where I don't think the game would've necessarily been better off without them, but still ultimately not doing a great job telling the story. These are the memories that do give important information that couldn't be (effectively) given elsewhere, but that I don't feel utilize their time well. They are not very interesting and do not give enough information to justify their inclusion in the game as-is; they should've been rewritten to make better use of their time and provide more information. In a word: they're underwhelming. These are most of the Champion memories, where they simply give too little information about the Champions to be truly all that interesting to me; I feel like with some rewriting you could've made much better use of the one memory slot each Champion has. The last one in this category in memory fourteen, which does provide plot information and some characterization for Zelda and to a lesser extent Link, but ultimately feels more like a stopgap before the final act than anything else. Like, it's fine. I feel like you could've come up with a more interesting scenario with which to convey this information though. Which is basically my opinion on all these memories: they're fine, but could've used another pass.
(Memory five is one I'm not confident in placing; it does provide quite a bit of important information but I don't think it does so in a particularly interesting way; at the same time, I also don't think it's so weak that it strictly needed to be rewritten. So. Probably middling but in a less negative way than the others.)
We can twist and argue on the exact specifics on which memory should be included where, but I think that even with the most generous interpretation, it's difficult to argue against the estimation that there that about 25% to 50% of the memories included in Breath of the Wild do not do a good job telling their story. Seeing as the memories are the primary mechanism by which the story is told, that's. Bad. If 25% to 50% of your scenes are either bad or underwhelming, you don't have a very good story.
The issues don't stop at the memories. They also pop up in Zelda's diary, one of the other most important methods of information distribution. The third entry is about memory five and does not give meaningful insight on it, since memory five was already in Zelda's point of view and it was very easy to follow her thought process. The only new information is that she feels guilty about it. This is a waste of a dairy entry; we've already received most of this information, and the rest is not interesting enough to be worth its inclusion. Entry four is about the Kara Kara Bazaar flashback (or, you know, it would be if the flashback scene wasn't so weak), and similarly wastes an entry in its inclusion, since you're all but guaranteed to have gotten this memory by the time you read the diary and it doesn't really give much meaningful insight into Zelda's thought process (I mean. Still more than the actual memory. But come on now). Both of these are important for a narrative flow to the diary, I guess, but could've easily been incorporated into other entries with a sentence or two.
For example, while entry six also retells a memory, it does so in a few sentences, and spends the rest of its time providing insight into Zelda's thoughts on her mother and how those intertwine with her thoughts around her power and her failure to connect with it. This is a much more effective usage of the diary, providing extra information that's not essential to the story, but interesting to know for people who care. People who are sitting down to read the diary are people who care about the story; they'll have almost certainly either gotten the memories at this point, or be planning on getting them. You don't need whole entries dedicated to retelling the memories. They'll find them eventually, if they haven't yet. Instead, use the time more wisely by providing this extra flavor that deepens the story as a whole, rather than laying its basic foundations. That's the memories' job.
The other entries mostly do a pretty good job; the diary isn't the main issue with the story. However, there is one other entry that stands out to me: entry five, which describes Zelda and Link's first real bonding conversation. This is where the story gets kind of kneecapped by the game's insistence on keeping Link as a blank slate first and a character second. The writing correctly identified anyone who'd sit down to read Zelda's diary as someone who would like or at least wouldn't mind deeper Link characterization, but didn't want to risk alienating any players by putting more than vague hints towards characterization in the main memories. Link's lack of characterization is a separate issue from information distribution that only really hurts the story on two occasions (this one and the itinerary memory); I won't be getting into it here (again. the post is long enough), but I'm noting it because the information in this entry is far better suited to a memory. This is an important turning point in Link and Zelda's relationship, a foundational aspect of the story, not merely flavor text. The Kara Kara Bazaar memory, in part due to how bare bones it is, does not do a good job bearing the weight of this turning point. If you just watch the memories, the transition between Zelda disliking Link and them becoming good friends feels very sudden. The scene the entry describes is full of extremely interesting information that would make for a good flashback scene; however, most of it is about Link, and it would require giving him stronger characterization than the game was willing to commit to. Entry five is a good example of flavor text that should've, by all rights, been in the main story; however, its exclusion was deliberate. In my opinion, it still counts as an information distribution issue, but it isn't purely one.
So we have memories that should've been diary entries, diary entries that should've been memories, diary entries that should've been rewritten, memories that should've been rewritten because they provide so little information as to be either outright worthless or underwhelming, and memories that could've just been straight-out cut.
And here's the reason all of this matters: these things take up time. They take up valuable space in the narrative that could've been spent on things that were far more interesting. The foundation of Breath of the Wild's story, that of Zelda conflicting with her destiny and of a people doomed to tragedy due to a blind reliance on the past, is very strong. But in practice, it doesn't end up doing much of anything interesting with it.
Its characterization of the Champions is bare bones, with not enough information provided in the world to make up for the mediocre memories. Zelda's characterization is deeper and more interesting, but a lot of time that could've been spent flashing it out further instead goes to wasting time or repeating information established elsewhere. It never goes further than base elements you'd logically expect from this type of story set-up, and I don't believe that's because there wasn't anything interesting to do; look at the diary entry talking about Zelda's strange dream about a glowing woman. Is it Hylia? Is it Zelda having a prophetic dream about her own future? Is it something else? This is something you could easily mine and do something very interesting with. The summary describes memory three (the itinerary one) as Zelda 'interrogating Link, after which the pain she's held inside surfaces' (paraphrasing, I play the game in Dutch and am translating), which is wildly overstating what actually happens because the memory cuts off before it can do anything interesting. Part of that is the previously stated desire to keep Link a blank slate, but if that's what you want to do, why structure a precious memory slot around a scene you know is doomed to go nowhere? If you used this slot to actually have Zelda talk about how Hyrule views the Master Sword and what her own relationship is to it, you'd actually have an interesting memory and a more developed world and character to boot; perhaps you could even foreshadow the part in memory seventeen where Zelda knows Link's alive because the Master Sword still glows. Do you see what I mean? Time that's now wasted could've been used to provide much more interesting information that would deepen the story as a whole.
The fact is that Breath of the Wild spends too much time on far too little. It did a poor job understanding what information should go where, prioritizing unimportant, underwhelming, or repeating information for memory slots when they already had so few of them. The result is a story that is infuriatingly mediocre despite its potential.

Strength of the Ancients
[BOTW! Link x F! Reader]
Chapter 1
[Previous Part] [Next Part]
Tumblr media
The hoard of soldiers stood in formation before the large wall dividing the castle from the royal field. The groups stood in patches, all wearing the same silver, embroidered armor except for the one front and center of the group, the captain, who had an extra red feather on his helmet. Link stood amongst them, also clad in the silvery armor. However, he had no helmet on and stood within the middle of the group. No one bothered to say anything about the missing helmet, for many didn’t seem to care all too much about it. Everyone was too busy listening to the king as he began his speech.
King Rhoam stood on top of the wall with a guard on either side of him. His tone firm yet calm as he began to speak, “Listen well, soldiers of Hyrule. In our long history, we have scarcely faced a threat of this magnitude,” his gaze swept over the soldiers who all stood attentive at the King’s presence, “The years have passed quickly since Calamity Ganon’s revival was prophesied. Yes, we have unearthed the Divine Beasts and filled volumes with our knowledge of ancient relics.”
The king stepped closer to the edge of the wall, “But a barricade of books will not protect us,” his gaze hardened, “Because this way surges a horde like we have never faced before. Even now, the enemy is crawling for our throats— for Hyrule Castle itself.” King Rhoam raised a hand out to the crowd below and his tone grew fierce, “We must exterminate the monsters roaming Hyrule Field,” that hand clenched into a fist, “Thus will begin our renewed effort to stop the Calamity!”
The king lifted his mighty broadsword from beside him into the air, “Here, now, go forth! And be brave for your kingdom!” The soldiers raised their swords up as well and let out a mighty battle cry. Most of them did, at least. Link remained silent, but kept his sword raised as well, determination swelling in his eyes.
The captains of each squadron began to lead their groups away to their assigned areas. “Soldiers! We head north and down the center! Leave no monster alive!” The captain led the way forward and past the fountain in the center of the courtyard. Bokoblins already swarmed the area in front of them, coming in hundreds. They snorted disgustingly, weapons or fists raised for battle. Link and the soldiers charged forward in retaliation to begin the fight.
—————
“Come on, (Y/N), getting the slate to the Princess is our top priority!” Impa turned and began to run as she spoke to her subordinate and guide, nearly stumbling in the process, “There’s too many for us to take on alone, anyways!”
The Sheikah warrior clutched the spear tightly in her hold at Impa’s remark before carefully nodding and turning to follow. The spear was slid into its holster behind her back as the two began to run away from the horde. They had barely gotten passed the castle walls when they realized that the attack had begun so soon. However, their goal still remains in aiding with Princess Zelda’s research on Sheikah tech and ways to unlock her abilities as the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom.
As (Y/N) has been tasked to do, she’s to aid Impa in any and every way possible. That and (Y/N) owed Impa for both companionship and help when it came to her training over the years— even when Impa became the Royal Advisor and stayed mainly in the castle. This especially applied when it came to her ancient abilities as a Sheikah warrior. They were still a work in progress, so she could use them well and for long. Y/N) didn’t plan to use them just yet.
(Y/N) ran close behind her friend, but glanced back to make sure the monsters weren’t catching up to them. The horde of monster seemed to be increasing in numbers as they gave chase, though the number appeared to remain the same. “Not good…!” (Y/N) called out with heavy breaths to leave her lips as the slight fatigue from fighting so much with so little help and running began to catch up with her. Impa looked back for a moment, nearly falling on her face once again. “Careful!” (Y/N) called out. Impa nodded and looked back ahead and around.
“You! Help!” Impa called to whoever was to the left of her and began running in that direction. (Y/N) followed suit, nearly stopping in place when she realized who Impa spoke to. It was a familiar face, yet one she hadn’t seen in quite a while. By the look of surprise on his face, he had the same reaction. Impa tripped on a loose stone, the Sheikah slate flying from her grasp and into the air.
“Catch it, Link!” (Y/N) called out as she skidded to a stop next to Impa and pulled her weapon back out to defend from the nearing monsters. She stood in a wide stance, holding the spear tightly. She was ready to fight again— even if she was out of breath. However, as Link joined (Y/N)‘s side, the ground began to shake and ruin Impa’s chances of getting to her feet as her hand slipped from under her body.
“What? Why is this happening?!” Impa gasped as she placed a hand on the ground to keep herself as steady as possible.
“Y-Your guess is as good as mine!” (Y/N) stumbled a little as the shaking grew more intense. Looking in Link’s direction, she noticed that… the Sheikah slate was on? He was Hylian, so how was he able to power on the slate? (Y/N)’s eyes narrowed at the device before it was move away from her line of sight.
Link began to charge forward with sword in hand as a Bokoblin attempted to continue its pursuit. The ground quickly began to crack beneath the monster’s feet and neither of them realized. Whatever was underneath was about to burst out the seams. (Y/N)’s hand shot out and quickly yanked Link back by the back of his armor. A tower shot up out the ground, killing the surrounding Bokoblins from the sheer force.
(Y/N) and Link watched the tower rise higher and higher into the air, rattling the stone under their feet as it did so. (Y/N) carefully let go of the armor now as the tower slowly stopped, a heavy breath leaving her lips in surprise. “Thanks…” Link muttered quietly to her.
(Y/N) looked to him with even more surprise now. That’s got to be the first time she’s heard him speak since they finished basic training years ago. Obviously, he sounded different— but in a good way. Being a soldier in Hyrule’s army changed the both of them a lot, but she didn’t expect him to be so silent because of it. Then again, when on duty, most soldiers are expected to be silent unless spoken to. As someone who trained in Kakriko Village as a Sheikah clansmen, that’s not really a regulation set for her. It can be chosen to be if she wished it to, but it was not required.
(Y/N) carefully nodded and made herself speak as she caught her composure, “Y-Yeah… you’re welcome…”
The tower had to have risen hundreds of feet high into the sky. Dust would flutter down every so often, resting around the tower’s base. Impa was finally able to push herself up from the ground now that the shaking had ceased, looking up in awe. “A tower…?” Shock and confusion laced her tone as she began to inspect the tower.
A beeped sound went off behind you three, but it was only you and Link who looked back with curiosity— Impa was too caught up with the tower at the moment. “What… is that thing?” (Y/N) muttered, watching as a it beeped at them once again. The thing scuttled a little in place. It looked like a mini version of the guardians, but more egg shaped. The patterns, leg structure, and eye gave that much away. But where did it come from?

[totk] loose ends
the devs said no dlc but theres sooo much stuff in the game thats just not even addressed like i get it its a huge game but they could at least say something thats not just "idk lmao"... who knows maybe creating a champion 2 will be real
anyways spoilers but mainly for totk
starting off on the surface there's the shape of the Gerudo highlands—no explanation for why its in the shape of one of the heroine statues
Misko is never really given an explanation either... what's the far off land they talk about regarding the treasures ?? how did they get the treasure into locations practically only accessible by link??
the Palmorae Ruins/Garini... he is literally just reduced to a shopkeeper in totk but wtf is up with that medallion... I think it is straight up gone in totk but even the doors back there... the other doors in botw opened up to a shrine/skeleton so why do these specific ones not open... and why was Garini able to help unlock the shrine in botw who is that man
ancient altar ruins, prison, other sinkhole caves/ruins littering the desert? this one is pretty minor and granted ive not really looked into the altar ruins but even with all the other ruins all over the desert like what are those even supposed to be
dragon skeletons/misc bones how did the one in Gerudo MOVE?? and how did the one in Hebra get stuck in there? there was a whole questline for this in botw with the different shaped heads and even another one in totk for the Gerudo one's baby/fixing the other two's bones/eyeball and its just left there are what even are those things and why do they just not explain them... plus i guess the ones in Eldin make some sense since there is a big one but the ones in Lanaryu?? i mean it did use to be a desert but there is nothing in the game regarding those bones... and also the skulls for the monsters like what are those and the bony rock around skull lake/ibara butte lake of horse god region/breach of demise like what even is that and WHY
Zonai ruins... im so sorry i post about this so much but aside from just the area labeled "Zonai Ruins" they do not talk about them at all in game... theres roads and like a graveyard and other various structures all over the jungle and even underground
Zonai ruins out of Faron... no explanation on the ones all over the Tabantha/Hebra region's caves... i mean at least the one door for the shrine you had to knock down was turned into a cave and the other two (that i know of) had a questline but whats up with the ones in the canyon? under Kakariko too like what's up with that?? Hyrule Ridge also like the thunder part from totk is tied to a sheikha shrine and they don't talk about it in totk (the balls) and Thyplo too i guess because they never talked about why it was covered in dark... but ig that was something to do with the Zonai since some shrines do that too... and the Zonai towers like what even are those
random Hylian ruins everywhere—they all have this weird shell crest thing on them (i do not have a picture right now but these are the stone ones not the wooden ones) and they were in botw too like reaching all the way to Eventide Island like are you seriously telling me the calamity reached the island?? why are they all broken down
why isn't Lake Kilsie frozen
Ankel/Tingel/other islands off of Sokkala/Upland Zorana... those islands are just not real to me at all like why are they so high up... were they manmade??
this one is also kind of minor but the descriptions for the labyrinths make no sense like who is talking to you (lord of owls/dragons/boars(?)
the people Josha talks about in the mural (statues)... you can see a Zonai in it and the trail of statues and Zonai look NOTHING alike you cannot convince me those are Zonai or even made by Zonai
the flowers in the water at Skull Lake and around Malanya Spring like ok this is also really small but why do they do that
giant tree stumps like they just do not even talk about those even though theyre all over central Hyrule
ancient Hylian ruins—the major reigons for these are Akkala and Tabantha... ik the creating a champion did talk about this but they did not really explain it or what they were... speaking of in Akkala there are Zonai ruins WITH the Hylian ones especially in the Tarrey Town/wetland area like what's up with that
owl/boar/dragon statues... the dragons are super present in totk yes but what is up with the owl and boar... the owl esp appears all over the Hebra caves
the horned statue thing that exchanges hearts/stamina for money... how does it move around and actually how does this work
I think that's it for the surface so for the depths theres also several things...
the Gerudo Underground Cemetery?? who was buried there and why not on the surface?? like i'm pretty sure it's right under Arbiter's Grounds...
coliseums?? there are a lot of them and I think they do correspond with locations on the surface but what was the reason for them being built??
ascend points—they pop up in mostly seemingly random locations... the one that made sense was the Akkala lab which overlooks the big maze island but the others pretty much take you to the middle of nowhere plus why does it have it's own music?? they have nothing to do with the story or anything aside from that one in Korok grove
lakes/secret spring of revival... tbh actually this is theorizing but i guess that the depths were under water at one point especially with that weird barnacle pattern all over the ground and that would have left water in deep areas but that does not explain where this water would have went or why the spring of revival is heated
general landscape of the area... its an inverse of the map but only of the current map... the one in the Forgotten Temple shows the central Hyrule region was a lake but there's not really a large area of ceiling high cliffs there... and also the dueling peaks have the river going through them as cliffs even though the ancient peak was just one... how do cliffs disappear/appear??
gorondia—is it the fire temple or what?? or was it just not even real
gleeok den: do the gleeoks just come from the depths?? is the king Gleeok down there like the mother of all Gleeoks?? and whats with the statues of the four races down there also??
speaking of statues there's not one for Hylians which ok ig they did not do anything useful but also they just do not match the style of every other Zonai building down there
bargainer statues?? again they do not look Zonai, they look like the statues that lead you to mines and they're always under goddess statues... are there more to be recovered because the one at lookout landing does not seem to have a goddess statue with it... plus the bigger they are the more limbs they seem to have like the big one under the Forgotten Temple has hands and feet (granted with like 3 fingers) plus they can give out hearts?? like seeing that actually what are the goddess statues doing with your shrine balls where do they take them?? and what is the afterlife where do these statues take the poes... plus why do their eyes glow the same color as the ancient energy...
ancient underground fortress/ancient observation deck?? theres no cities or anything that really needs defense down there so why is there a whole fort down there... and the observation deck is literally like a random structure but ig it makes sense since it watches over the heart
blupee den... how did they get down there
the bosses down there like why are they down there and why are there MULTIPLE of them + what are the flux constructs guarding
great skeletons... while under the ones on the surface they are not the same creatures... i've seen theories that are like "this is a dragon and the gloom hands ate them" which makes sense bc the skeletons are about as long as Naydra but who were these three?? were they unique to the depths or something and also if they were flying how would the gloom hands reach them
trees?? theres big tree stumps in some groves like what are those but also the smaller trees look more like coral than trees and don't even drop wood when you cut them... i mean ig they do work since the Yiga seem to use them but regardless I think they refer to them as "trees" so what even are they
Akkala House of Bones... what and why
ok i think that is all for the depths so now onto the sky
the islands... i get that most of them were raised from the depths but how come none of the rock on these islands looks anything like the rock from the depths??
dive ceremony... could the Zonai fly or something?? i mean i don't think we ever saw Rauru fly or anything actually how would they even get up there in the first place... plus were the islands in the sky before Ganondorf was a thing since they did raise the Temple to protect it or was it over many years or were the constructs lying
islands specific to Gleeoks/Constructs... why are they just there like I get they protect the soul pieces but are gleeoks not evil/made of malice since they have the eye or have they just been around before Ganondorf made all the Other Monsters (moblins/bokoblins/etc)
just the style differences between the Water and Wind Temples and normal islands...what is up with that...
also why are there no zonai cities or anything?? where did they live?? like even though the two of them were the last two left there had to have been others right??
I think that is all for now thank you for coming to my ted talk
