Story Description
Following a pretty upsetting argument with his big brother Seto Kaiba, Mokuba runs off to the local arcade he often frequents to blow off some steam and try to get his mind off of things. Once there he sees on a video screen advertising a 'new' VR game called 'The Amazing Digital Circus', and that one can try it out in one of the rooms in the back. Curious and wanting some time 'outside of his own head' so to speak, he ventures back to the totally not shady place and slaps on a VR headset to enter the game. Once he does, his body goes into a comatose state, similar to what his brother experienced in the Death-T arc in canon. This luring of Mokuba was done by his step brother, Noa Kaiba, who infiltrated the circus game code and is classified as a 'Virus' in the code.
Once inside the game, Mokuba takes on the form of a black dragon (essentially fitting the 'wild beast' part of a circus troupe), forgetting various things about himself in the process, including his name, much like the other residents of the circus. What key things he does remember is his knowledge of gaming programming, his love of gaming in general, and that he does remember he has an older brother but cannot remember anything else other than that fact about him. He is also fixated on the locket around his neck, not knowing quite why but that it is very important to him and that he wants to figure out whose picture should be in the now blank spot.
He, much like Pomni, wants to find an exit and return home. He does participate in the adventures Caine creates, thinking that by 'completing' them he will be able to advance further enough into the game to find a way out. He gets along with most of the members of the circus, I'd imagine (except Jax because, well, he's a jerk), and does come to consider them friends and promises if he finds a way out, he will take them with him.

Story Description
Kisara Utahara, much like she is in my modern verse, is a world-famous singer and songwriter known as the Blue-Eyed Maiden, having started performing when she was 12. However, recently, she has been winding down her public performances to instead focus on pursuing the career path of a medical doctor (most likely in Pediatrics, as she has a soft spot for kids), following in her mother's footsteps. She attends Domino University's medical school and currently lives in an apartment with her elder sister and agent, Shiori, in the downtown area of Domino City, Japan. Not only did she choose to attend this university because it is in the city she mainly lives in already, but it also because this city is legally owned by and is the home of her boyfriend, the world-famous CEO of the world's biggest gaming company, Kaiba Corporation, Seto Kaiba.
Upon hearing news of Mokuba being trapped inside of the Amazing Digital Circus game, Kisara drops everything to try and help. She mainly acts as Seto's support in this situation, to prevent him from doing anything reckless in his anger over his brother being stuck inside this retro video game. To that end, once Seto finds a way to access the code and learns of Noa Kaiba's involvement with this entire situation, Kisara offers to go into the game (with him as her outside navigator / programmer) to get Mokuba out herself since he can't go into the game and help on the outside at the same time.
Thus, she enters the game through one of Kaiba Corporation's virtual pods (like the ones seen in the Legendary Heroes mini-arc in the anime), and manifests in the Digital Circus as 'Hope', a white-dragon avatar who appears as a 'NPC' (but is similar to Noa's status as a 'virus', meaning she cannot be deleted from the game by Caine but can corrupt code). Due to her being brought into the game indirectly through Seto's hacking, she fully maintains her memories, unlike the other humans inside the game. She is also able to allow Seto to speak through her or manipulate her actions, essentially 'control her avatar' if you will. She has complete trust in him to allow this.
Kisara's goal is to get Mokuba to get out of the game and regain his memories by creating an exit during a prime opportunity during an adventure, but escaping this colorful retro game is not as easy as it looks...not when you have both a crazy AI in Caine to deal with but also Noa who wants to keep the little Kaiba inside of this place...

this is an unusual rec for me since the main character is camilla collins, and the main relationship explored here is jack/camilla. but really, I adore it because it's a rare example of an outsider pov on jack through the eyes of someone who likes him, and maybe sees more of him than he know. there's something very sad about jack at this point of his story, but his and canilla's awkward attempts to make something real of what they almost have are really endearing. plus: even if jack didn't fall in love with camilla, I definitely did.

I'm going old school with this one, because whenever I think of a fic that inspires me I think of the summer I read this fic six times to get through my own fic. this may be in my top ten favorite fics of all time. it has endless amounts of pining, hilarity, silliness, and to top it all off, it's set during my favorite time to read about: right after graduation and before Y3. it does such a good job of nailing that jack and bitty essence that I just can't help coming back to it for inspiration.

Just thinking about Eli and his gf and their twins just having an outing. The twins are in their double stroller wearing their sun hats and sunglasses and little sandals. They're kicking and laughing, watching everything go by. Maybe a dog and their owner come up because the puppy was curious about the tiny humans. The puppy makes the babies giggle and squeal and they get to pet a puppy for the first time.
All is well when they get to their destination, the little park not far from their house. There's kids playing and running around. Eli and Reader take the twins to the swings and pushes them, Eli goes down the big slide with them on his lap, and they let the kids explore the playground on their own. Reader is left alone with the twins as Eli steps away to answer a phone call, and it isn't too long after that does something go array.
The twins are playing in the grass, far more interested in digging their fingers in the dirt than the playground equipment, and another toddler comes over to join them. Before they can even sit down with the twins, their mother shouts and snatches them up, telling them they can't play like that. "You'll get all dirty and I'll have to take you home and give you a bath. Only bad children play in the dirty."
Reader overhears this and hears the sneering disapproval in the other mother's voice. She gets defensive and marches up to the mother, waiting for her child to run off before she engages. "Hey, I don't appreciate you bad mouthing my kids just to make yourself feel better. If you have something to say, say it to my face."
"So they're both yours? Well, I'm sorry. It's just I would never let my children roll around and play in the dirt like animals." She eyes Reader up. "Then again, I see where they get their extra chub from. You all look like little piggies."
"You did not just call my babies pigs."
When Eli comes back over, he finds his wife tearing into the other woman and his heart skips a beat. He hasn't seen her get so mean and defensive since they were in high school, sticking up for him when he hadn't been able to do it himself. As she defends her family, the twins - as well as many other spectators, are watching in awe. She's in total mama bear mode, telling the woman to keep her rude, snobbish, small minded comments to herself because she's not smart and rather unoriginal in her insults.
"You've got to be the stupidest, most brainless person iver ever met, thinking you're so great for calling literal babies fat. Insulting my kids isn't going to get you anywhere in life. I mean come on, you're at a playground making fun of me and my kids! How much lower can you get? Or did you never age out of the school yard bully archetype and this is where you feel most at home? Grow up! And suck a lemon for all I care!"
Reader promptly picks up her babies, holding them close as she glares att he woman. She doesn't care that they're rubbing dirt and grass onto her clothes as they hold onto her, in fact she wants them too. She wants that lady to see how dirty their curious little hands are, wants it to eat away at her since it bothers her so much.
"Come on, Eli, let's go," she says as she passes him and he follows her like a starstruck super fan. He's just in awe, like he's fallen in love all over again. She hardly notices this, though, still fuming as she puts the twins in their stroller and they're just smiling up at her.
They're not able to understand what just happened or why. All they know is that their mama is amazing and they love her and whatever that other lady was doing was wrong.
Reader pouts at their cute little faces, their round cheeks and tubby bellies. "So what if you're a little chubby? There's nothing wrong with that."
Eli checks back in when he hears his wife's downtrodden and sad tone. He hugs her from behind when she stands up and she jumps a bit, but he eases her troubles with a kiss on the cheek. "Nothing wrong at all. They're perfect, just like you."
She smiles, leaning into his warmth and reassurance. "Thanks, babe."
He kisses her sweetly before they start walking home. It's on the way there that he tells her, "You know, you're really hot when you're angry."
It makes her laugh and the twins giggle too, and that's all he wants for them in that moment.

Please go into more detail about the Fulcrum Barriss thing.
Oh, anon, I have been waiting for this. You're going to get way more than you wanted.
Basically, my idea for Fulcrum!Barriss came from 2 things: 1, I really don't like Ahsoka in Rebels. She kinda sucks there tbh. One of Rebel's main themes is that of redemption, of finding your way back to the right path and helping, and Ahsoka doesn't really fit. She could fit, if they'd done things different and had her and Kanan have parallel character arcs where they both help each other find the Jedi path again, but instead she's a very flat character that never does anything that interesting. Sure, she's supposedly organizing the Rebellion from the shadows, but the only time she's ever significant in her own right in Rebels is when she's beating people up. She's presented as kind of a perfect Light Side saint kind of thing (think of the Gandalf-looking outfit she has in the endcard, and the exhausting amounts of Morai and Daughter imagery we get with her, without them ever once acknowledging that she was possessed by the Son) which really gives us nothing to go with the whole redemption theme. It's boring. There are some good things--I love most of Twilight of the Apprentice, for example, but it's pretty clear that the whole Vader and Ahsoka thing shouldn't have been in Rebels, since it has almost no connection to the actual main characters and the plot.
The second thing was that I wanted to explore Barriss's character post-Order 66 in a way that is respectful to her actual character while still mostly canon-compliant (Because while I hate the Wrong Jedi Arc for what it did to Barriss and fully believe that it never should have happened, a story following Barriss with everything in the Wrong Jedi staying the same is really interesting) and, well, obviously having Barriss be a rebel makes sense (do not talk to me about Inquisitor!Barriss, I hate it). Barriss also has a ton that she feels she has to atone for with the context of the Wrong Jedi Arc, and, as a young Jedi who did Fall a little bit, she can offer a lot to Ezra as a teacher, like helping him understand why he can't use the Dark Side to stop The Empire.
tl;dr: Ahsoka's boring in Rebels, and she really shouldn't have been there anyway, but Barriss is fascinating post-TCW and, as a former Jedi who was briefly taken in by the Dark Side and betrayed the Order, is pretty damn perfect with the themes of Rebels, and had a very unique perspective that would've been really valuable for Ezra's arc.

Barriss works as Fulcrum, too. In The Wrong Jedi (I hate it, but like, I am using Canon here, I know it's terrible and character assassination for the sake of shock value and racism), we see how skilled she can be at subterfuge and lying and hiding in plain sight. She's very good at knowing exactly how to manipulate Ahsoka into making herself look as guilty as possible while keeping herself very innocent-looking. I could definitely see a fully grown Barriss with 15 years of experience using those skills to fight the Empire and direct a rebellion from the shadows.
Narratively, it makes a lot of sense for Barriss to work as a quiet director of rebel activity in the Outer Rim. She isn't a super-powerful Force user that can easily beat a bunch of Inquisitors (I'll talk about my problems with how weak the Inquisitors were later) and hold back Darth Vader. She needs to stay quiet, but she also needs to help, and working with those who have been the most disenfranchised and hurt by the Empire to bring it down serves as a good parallel to the Wrong Jedi Arc, where she was one of the most disenfranchised and hurt by the war (a teenage soldier whose people are dying around her, and no one in power cares) redirecting that in the wrong way, lashing out and hurting people, and now she's helping people react in a positive way and do things right.
Ahsoka, on the other hand (I'm assuming you came from the Fulcrum!Bariss and Inquisitor!Ahsoka post) is honestly a much more interesting character as an Inquisitor than she's really ever been in canon, and honestly, it’s confusingly well foreshadowed for something that never happens. In the Mortis Arc (aka the most symbolic arc of TCW that EXPLICITLY TELLS YOU THE FUTURE OF THE CHARACTERS), Ahsoka is very much associated with the Dark Side. She's kidnapped by the Son, she sees a vision (all of the other characters have visions that are pretty clearly true) of herself in the future, telling her that Anakin will corrupt her if she can't let go of him, and lo and behold, what is the 1 thing that Ahsoka is never able to do? LET GO OF ANAKIN. She is literally possessed by the embodiment of the Dark Side of the Force. 30 years later in The Mandalorian, Ahsoka is still unable to let go of Anakin even after he’s been dead for years, after she faced him and recognised him, after there’s nothing left of the Anakin she knew, she can only see Anakin in Grogu. She is haunted by Anakin, she is attached to Anakin, Anakin defines her. Think of how tragic that would be with Inquisitor Ahsoka, who was forced to the Dark Side, who was manipulated and tortured and abused (tbf TotJ kinda makes it seem that Anakin was already borderline abusive to Ahsoka). Imagine the amount of pain and anger and unresolved trauma in her, all inextricably tied to Anakin, to Vader, to her Master. She loves him in the same horrifying, twisted way that he loves her and that brings them both so much pain, plunging them deeper and deeper into that downward spiral.
And then there’s the relationship the two of them would have with each other--Barriss who fell first, but was given the support she needed to pull herself out (obviously Luminara and the Jedi helped her, come on, there’s no way that if she lived they wouldn’t have helped her and pushed for her to be given back to the Jedi) who was able to find the Light again and use her experiences to help other people and make amends, but especially the fact that Barriss Fell of her own accord. There were other factors, but no one forced Barriss to Fall. The Inquisitors were tortured and mutilated and abused until they became everything they hated, and then they were forced to serve the very people who murdered their people. None of that is voluntary, even if they’ve been manipulated into thinking that it was deserved, or for the best, or made them stronger. A Fallen Ahsoka confronting a redeemed Barriss, a horrible mirror image of what happened to them in the Wrong Jedi Arc so long ago. That’s powerful and painful and it works, it fits with the themes of Rebels really well, and it doesn’t mess with the power scaling the way Vader does.
Now allow me to elaborate on this au. So, Order 66 happens, and Barriss is in Republic prison, one that’s probably guarded and maintained by clones (she wouldn’t be an immediate target, ‘cause she’s not a Jedi, and she’s probably wanted for the Inquisitorius anyway). At this point, Ahsoka has separated from Rex and only knows of one Jedi in the entire galaxy that’s probably still alive--Barriss, who she knows won’t be an immediate target, Barriss, who, despite everything, is still her friend. Barriss who will die soon. Ahsoka goes back to Coruscant and breaks Barriss out of prison.
Except the Empire knew that someone would come for her, and after Jesse never reported back, they knew Ahsoka was out there. Barriss manages to escape, but Ahsoka doesn’t. (This is, like, the angstiest possible version of this au, I could also do a version where Barriss just escapes, but I like pain, so.) Barriss thinks they’d kill her—the Inquisitorius program won’t become official for months yet, not until the last of her people have been tortured into everything she once thought the Jedi had become—so she makes sure Ahsoka’s sacrifice isn’t in vain, and she runs. She hides out in the Outer Rim, and she makes Ahsoka proud.
She sees the pain and suffering and misery caused by the war and the Empire, and she is a Jedi. She cannot help what she is. She builds a rebellion, piece by piece and step by step, hidden in the shadows, agonizingly crawling towards something better. She wakes up every day, and she fights, building networks of people and information and hope. She fights to restore the Republic that failed her, and the Order she failed, and she hopes that one day it will be enough. Enough to finally be redeemed, enough to go to trial once more and face punishment for her crimes. (Death. It was always going to be death, but the Jedi managed to postpone her trial until after the war, but the war never ended. The war was to destroy the Republic, and she refuses to stop fighting for civilization. She hears about Ahsoka, eventually, and she sees it as just one more sin she must carry.)
And then she meets Ezra. He is young, and scared, and angry, but he is bright in the Force and he wants to become a Jedi more than anything. She has stayed in the shadows for so long, but this young, brilliant boy and his Master, a fellow Padawan that she remembers from so long ago, they need her, and she goes. She brings everything she has, all to save these last Jedi and being the galaxy some hope. They burn a Star Destroyer, and broadcast a message of hope. It’s finally coming together.
She teaches Ezra what she can, and she and Kanan cling to each other. They hadn’t thought there was anyone else left, all 10,000 lights snuffed out by Order 66 or the Inquisitorius save for them. They meditate and train and try to find their way back to the Jedi path, for the child they’re trying so hard to save.
Eventually, the Empire comes for them. Inquisitor Ahsoka Tano, Grand Inquisitor of the Imperial Order of the Inquisitorius (I had a lot of fun figuring out how many times I could fit Inquisitor in there), second only to Darth Vader, finds them on Malachor. She brings a bunch of other Inquisitors with her (and they’re actually, like threatening bad guys this time, come on) and they have a big fight (idk if I want to keep Maul here, bc well I do like him in Rebels, he's just another example of Filoni forcing in legacy characters where they don't fit) in, like, the middle of the episode Barriss and Ahsoka have a really really angsty 1v1 duel (everyone else is trying to fight normally while ignoring the bitter exes biting each other's heads off in the background). Darth Vader does not show up.
I haven't thought much past Season 2, to be honest, but I do have some vague ideas:
Kallus (who actually has a redemption arc, not 1 episode where they retcon everything about him) definitely has a very strained relationship with the Inquisitors bc he’s several gallons deep in the Empire-propaganda koolaid and he doesn’t trust force sensitives, he thinks that they take jobs away from the ISB, who could do the much better, and, while he’ll never admit it, he does have a moral compass and feels like sending highly trained super-evil Force wizards that can bring down entire buildings with their minds is a bit much for a teenage boy
For seasons 3 and 4 I’d want to do something with the Zare Leonis/Project Harvester plot they set up in season 1 and then like. Never mentioned again outside of a niche book series. Smth about what the Empire actually does to force-sensitive kids
No Thrawn. Fucking hate Thrawn in Rebels bc he is yet another example of Felony jamming in cameo characters where they don’t belong. Why was Thrawn, fucking Grand Admiral of the Empire, the guy that (in Legends bc he wasn’t in canon pre-Rebels) nearly manages to bring back the Empire and destroy the New Republic basically by himself, in the show about a small group of misfit rebels desperately trying to build the early Rebellion? Thrawn managed to nearly bring down the Rebellion at its peak, when it had already destroyed the damn Empire! (For that matter, why is Tarkin in Rebels? Why is Vader in Rebels? Why is Emperor goddamn Palpatine. in. Rebels??? There is a thing called power scaling, felony, and it is very important!)
Instead of Thrawn being the main villain of seasons 3-4 of Rebels, I’d have Inquisitor Ahsoka be the main villain of season 3 and her redemption arc would be parallel with Kallus’s (bc he actually has one here) and they’d both get out of the Empire in the Season 3 finale. The villain of Season 4 would be Pryce, and the focus would be on her and the Empire’s greed destroying Lothal, which I think would go really well with the Zare storyline of Project Harvester that I mentioned above. The show would end about the same as it does in canon, though idk exactly how Ezra would get into the Unknown Regions without Thrawn.
So this has turned from Fulcrum Barriss into a full on rewrite of everything I didn’t like about Rebels, huh? Sorry anon, I warned you.

"emrylurkeroftheloch: Sorry for the delays, just saw this!!! Arb is mostly being backline, too squishy for the front unfortunately (used to be where the beasts would go). Might try doing some front mortar stuff tho!! Zod/Bucc is mostly for access to limit boost, to be able to turbo out hellfires and the like. Turns out etheric charge into limit boost every other turn makes a mess of most things-- Yggdroid is super fascinating conceptually, I wanna try do a run where I focus on the HP loss??"
Worth a shot, at least? I don't tend to like high-risk high-reward plays, so I can't say I ever gave something like that a try. The limit strategy is a solid one, especially through main game. The magical limits are really, really useful, I think.

I like the broader lore around it, and I love the hints you get right from the start that the princess isn't entirely human - the idea of the two people sacrificing their humanity for their desires (both selfish and selfless) is a fascinating one, and I enjoy it a lot! Tbh I kinda wish I'd gone with the amoroad route first, in part bc I think it's a cooler boss fight, but I saw the option for robots and jumped at it.
I haven't done the true ending yet (got a tad bit distracted), but I'm excited for it!! Curious to see how it ties up these two broken souls. Love the contrast between a sister who just wanted her brother to come home, and sacrificed her humanity so she could wait for him, contrasted with a brother who wanted to protect her, and so sacrificed his humanity to do so. It's a delightfully cruel thing, how they both ended up in a similar place, despite everything.
Tbh I do really wish we'd gotten to see more of the deep city?? It feels like a shame to only get a few bits of it (though Olympia having her memory wiped at the end if you side with Armoroad is deeply messed up in a delightful way). I do also love how you can see the bones of EO4's exploration and discovery system in this one, with the ships becoming air ships, and the oceanic quests becoming full labyrinths!"
Entirely fair, and you hit on the stuff I found interesting. Etrian Odyssey doesn't have a ton of story stuff going on, but I do think most of the games are pretty interesting in spite of that. EO3 is one of the most interesting storylines they have, I think. I just love what they did with it, and admittedly, I like Gutrune a lot.
The true ending offers...a bit more, but mostly just for the Deep Ones. Who also get to be a bit interesting. Out of curiosity, have you been to Stratum 6 yet? It unlocks regardless of which route you clear, but you don't have to step in there at all.

i’m not going you spoil anything much, but i think december/january brings a new side to both tk and carlos we haven’t really explored before, so i’m super excited to be able to share that with you.

11- TBT (Tiger-Bee Truce)
Y/N and Wonwoo were sitting side by side, focused on Y/N's laptop screen. They were editing the latest episode of "Love On Air", ready to be posted on the YouTube channel. Jungwon and Jay's laughter and lively conversations with her echoed through the hallway as they worked.
"This part was funny, don't you think, oppa?"
"Yes, definitely. I think our listeners will love it."
While editing, they started talking about other topics.
"So, Wonwoo, what do you like to do in your free time?"
"Well," he said thoughtfully. "I enjoy everything, reading, going out drinking with my hyungs, but my favorite hobby as you heard, is gaming and streaming with my followers."
"I confess that games aren't really my thing" she scratched the back of her head, embarrassed "The only one I usually play sometimes is Legends of Runeterra, as it is one of the few Riot Games games that explores the game's universe and lore beyond of what was presented in stories, cinematics and other media."
"I've never heard of him. What is it?"
"It's a card game with some of the champions that League players know, with a few more special things! If you have time, I'll show you this game!"
"Of course, I would love to."
The conversation flowed naturally, and they discovered that they had a lot in common on other subjects, despite studying in practically opposite areas at HYBE Uni. Wonwoo had big aspirations in the gaming industry, while Y/N had other plans for her future.
"You know, oppa. My dream is to publish a book one day, maybe one of my stories will be adapted into a film script, or even I'll be called by Riot to write a new champion's lore in League!"
"Anything can happen, but I see that you are very talented, Y/N! You have a lot of potential to achieve great things in your life!"
She blushed slightly at the compliment.
"Thanks. But what about you? How are you doing with your livestreams?"
"Very well! In the last broadcast I broke my last record in Super Mario Kart and my goal of 10M subscriptions on my Twitch channel!"
"Really? Congratulations! I'm so happy for you!"
As they continued to talk, they discovered more about each other's interests, sharing stories about their hobbies and their ambitions for the future. Slowly, a friendship began to blossom between them, fueled by their passion for their studies and their excitement at working together on Love On Air.
As she finished editing the episode, she looked at him with a warm smile.
"Thank you. You really were a gem in this episode."
"It was my pleasure. I can't wait to see how our listeners react!"
As the sun set on campus, their friendship was beginning to form, fueled by their love of creation and shared dreams. It was the beginning of something special that they both knew could last a long time.
Y/N returned to her dorm, feeling a heavy weight in her heart due to the recent conflict. She knew she needed to sort things out and start a heart-to-heart with him. When she opened the door, she saw Sooyoung, who seemed to be reading something on her phone.
"You came back."
"I'm a woman of word, oppa. I would never postpone something so important to us for nothing."
The silence in the room was suffocating. Guilt weighed heavily on Soonyoung's shoulders, but the broken heart shook Y/N's feelings, so as she sat down on her rolling chair, dragged her closer to Hoshi and took a deep breath, she decided it was on her to take the first step.
"I want to apologize. I was immature with you, and it wasn't fair. I shouldn't have yelled at you like that."
He nodded, showing gratitude for her sincerity.
"I also apologize, Y/N. I didn't make an effort to really get to know you. I was influenced by rumors, both those posted by Beomgyu and those told by Yunjin and her friends. I feel so bad for judging you like that."
She smiled, relieved that they were finally starting to work things out.
"I understand. We both made mistakes by subjugating each other, but I believe we can do better from now on."
He nodded in agreement.
"Of course, that's why we need to establish some rules for healthy coexistence in the dorm, to avoid worse fights for no reason."
"I agree. Here are my suggestions: I would like to have more privacy and quiet in the room to study and plan the "Love On Air" episodes. And I would like to help you organize your things in the half of the room that is yours, I would hate to see you angry when you easily lose something important because of disorganization."
He considered the proposals and nodded.
"It's okay, I can do that. In return, I would like you not to go through my things without permission and to make a greater effort to respect my likes and hobbies."
She agreed, saying the rules were fair and balanced.
"Agreed. I promise not to touch your things and respect your tastes. Let's create a healthier coexistence from now on."
"No silly arguments and resentments?" he reached out to her
"I promise. Those were waters under the bridge, what matters is our future in the dorm." She returned a friendly smile.
"Good to know! I think we can be good roommates from now on, maybe even friends?"
"Don't force it." she grinned "It's going to take a while before I even consider you a friend, okay?"
"I'll take that risk." he shrugged
They knew it would be a winding path of learning, but they were determined to make living in the dormitory more harmonious and respectful. For them, this was a new beginning.

I have to say, I have never been super into Jack either (unless you're @loversandantiheroes Hotel Hobbies Jack, then take me away cowboy) but there is something about this idea that I just can't shake, and I think he would be perfect for it.
He's going to be a little different than most Whiskey fics I've read....I'm planning to lean more into his contemplative side, his smart side, his thoughtful and resourceful side? I want this man to be slightly intimidating and then slowly thaw under the soft attention of his costar. Teaching her how to ride, helping her stand up against studio execs who want to exploit her, protecting her both on set and from her fiancé - I am so so excited to share this entire story with you. ❤
AND JOEL - oof. There is just something about this man being overly protective as an act of love, but refusing to say the words and being willfully blind to the things he feels, because he doesn't want to feel them. I also can't wait to explore a Joel who is used to doing everything for his own self interest, but for once feeling like he shouldn't....and seeing how long he can resist. That tension sends me through the fucking ROOF --

Roswell, New Mexico: Kiss From a Rose (4x06)
Sick Michael is kind of the most precious thing I've ever seen lol.
Cons:
I don't really know what to make of Bonnie as a character. I'm extremely torn. I was excited to find out that her kiss with Michael had ulterior motives, but now we find out that those motives were her trying to help him, not hurt him. She hits that "born sexy yesterday" trope for me, where she's this wide-eyed innocent excited for someone to teach her about the world, but she's also super dangerous. It's tired, it's lazy, and I don't like how she's just willing to follow whoever happens to be nice to her at any given time. On the other hand, I do like that they're kind of keeping us guessing with her character. So I don't know.
Everything with Eduardo and his daughter felt like a waste of time to me. As we move further and further through this season, I'm realizing how much these side characters and new characters are eating up the screen time I'd rather be spending with our core cast. Anatsa was like that, and the new trio, especially Bonnie, get so much attention, and Eduardo with his family drama, Shivani with her sick daughter and semi-estranged wife... I don't know. I wish they'd known when they were making this season that it would be their last. Maybe they would have tightened the scope and focused on the things we're already invested in.
It's weird, because honestly I feel like the character who is getting the most good attention in this final season, and has the most interesting character stuff happening with him, is Michael. And Michael is my absolute fave, so of course I'm happy to get to see him explore his identity and his past... but at the same time, all this amazing character development for Michael just sheds an even brighter light on Alex's absence. I wish he could be there for Michael to do some processing with. I wish we could have seen him there for Michael in that moment when he learned his powers were gone. So many missed opportunities. I just really hope the payoff is good, for Alex's return...
Max is making me so angry! Honestly, after the last couple episodes when the drama between him and Liz seemed to be "I'm just waiting for the other shoe to drop", I was actually excited to see that Max's powers were putting Liz in danger. This is a concrete issue that they need to work through. It's appropriately angsty, you've got the handprint binding them so they can feel each other's emotions... all good stuff. And then Max goes and gets a kiss from Bonnie to remove his powers? Just like that? That's a huge decision that doesn't only affect him! Michael is powerless too, and now they're down two aliens as they try and figure out what to do about Tezca and Clyde and all that. It's just so stupid that Max would do this. These are our final episodes with these characters, I really wanted to believe that Max had grown and changed and had started to learn his lessons, but he just keeps making the same mistakes. It's not fun to watch anymore. Echo is a ship I really enjoy, but this season has been super aggravating for both of them. Liz is doing her best, but she seems less alive as a character to me lately, since her only role seems to be worrying about the future of her relationship.
Pros:
This wasn't a bad episode, by any means, and I certainly enjoyed it a lot more than I did last week's installment. I think part of it is that I've given up hope of seeing Alex until episode eight at the earliest, so I was a lot more Zen about him not being there.
To start with, Michael's arc this season really is the strongest, most consistent thing we have going on! He's grown so much as a character over the years. I love the moment when he wants to go with Max to talk to Bonnie, since he promised he'd protect her. And how even after learning what she did, he ultimately can't entirely hate her for it. He's learning so much about who he is, and it's complicated to let go of the things you've held onto for so long, while also trying to feel grounded in your present choices. I love how they're grappling with that!
Also, he's just super, super adorable all snuffly and curled up on the couch under a blanket. Seriously melted my heart. Missing Alex, grumpy about his powers... too sweet. Liz was so worried about him, promising to solve everything with science right away. And Maria makes him soup and commiserates with him over losing their alien powers, and Dallas comes by to check on him and get his advice... I'm just very warm and fuzzy about Michael having this whole support system. Sure, I could complain about the people who didn't get to react or know about Michael being sick in any way, including Sanders, Isobel, and of course, Alex, but I can also appreciate what we did get to see. I know people probably didn't like the Maria stuff in this episode but I honestly found it super sweet that she was there to take care of him and talk things over with him. Justice for their friendship, please!
I loved Liz being a bad-ass, and having faith in Max, and doing all the right things: speaking of characters who have really grown throughout the show. She is, in my opinion, handling everything really well. It's just Max who's freakin' blowing it for the both of them. I loved the handprint stuff, too, the way Liz and Max were navigating how they were feeling through being able to experience each other's emotions... Liz being understandably scared that Max's powers would continue to be a dangerous problem, but also wanting to reassure Max that she's in this for the long haul and isn't going anywhere... all great stuff! Until that stupid ending, and now next week they're going to have to fight about Max being an idiot! Again!
And then there's the Kyle and the Isobel of it all! As I said previously, I was really displeased with how things went between them last week, so I was ready to still be disappointed, but I actually really liked the angst here! Kyle is so happy and feels so settled after their night together, but Isobel immediately opens with "oh no, did I ruin our friendship?" And of course Kyle plays along. If they'd left things there, I still would have been annoyed. But instead, Kyle, after having a talk with Eduardo about regrets, decides to lay it all on the line. He tells Isobel he's in love with her, and she says... that she doesn't know what to say.
I loved how Kyle tried to be calm about this, tried to say that she could take all the time she wanted, but Isobel, quite reasonably, doesn't want Kyle waiting around for something that Isobel can't promise will ever happen. The way their relationship is structured, with Kyle pining away and Isobel not being aware of her own feelings, actually really works for me, in terms of a good romance story, and also with these particular characters. Kyle and Eduardo are off on a road trip, so he'll have some time to process, and I'm willing to bet that Isobel is going to be thinking quite a lot about Kyle while he's gone! I have high hopes for what we'll get between these two by the end of the season.
Dallas gets to learn a bit more about his dad, and discovers that there could be hidden messages in the bible his dad gave to him when he was briefly awake in the 1940's. I like that we're continuing to develop Dallas more and more; of all the new characters who arrived in season three/four, Dallas is the one I'm really happy about having around. It was sweet that Isobel rushed back to help him access his memories, even if I'm annoyed that nobody bothered telling her that Michael was sick and powerless! Yeesh.
So that's where I'll stop for now. I really, really hope that the next couple of weeks give us some forward motion on the Alex situation. I don't want that to be the only thing I care about. It's not the only thing I care about. But it sure is the thing I care about the most, and I'm not going to lie about that...

Conefession: Discworld is one of the fandoms that I stumbled across fic for without ever having read the source material. And I still haven’t gotten around to doing so. Although I’ve read a ton of fics. As such, my perception of Discworld is entirely shaped by fanfic fanon. And, believe it or not, Vimes/Vetinari is the most popular ship in fanfic. It’s number 1 on AO3, Vimes/Sybil is number 2, and the OT3 Vimes/Sybil/Vetinari is number 3. All of which I enjoy.
After your post, I can’t help but be reminded that I just LOVE fandom and all of its randomness. I love that people will take a single piece of art and using that as a base they can make a billion different random artistic things with it like they’re just throwing paint at a wall and seeing what kind of Rorschach Test-esque work of beauty they can make of it. Like “does it make sense in canon, I got no clue, but I know it makes for some beautiful art and some fun fics that can make me smile, so Why not?. Y’know? Why not?” 😄😄😄😄
It's beautiful, isn't it? Yeah, for sure I love that people will just latch onto whatever and run with it and make more art whether or not they know what's going on or if it makes sense or anything.
I'm a little surprised that Vimes/Vetinari is so popular because as I said I just... I can't wrap my head around it. On paper you could have some fun friction there because one is the self-proclaimed tyrant and the other has an anti-authoritarian streak a mile wide. Sure, that dynamic could be fun. It's fun in the books, to the extent it's explored.
But in the actual books they don't spend a lot of time together - Vimes gets called into Vetinari's office at the start and end of most of the books with him in them but it's basically this:
Vetinari: "Vimes, I need you to do this thing that sounds simple when I say it but which we both know is actually very complicated. Don't get into trouble, don't anger anyone important."
Vimes: "Sir yes sir, I would certainly never want to upset (insert super thinly veiled insult towards the aforementioned important people)"
Vetinari: "See that you don't."
...
Vetinari: "Well, you seem to have caused widespread panic and destruction of physical property and everyone is demanding I have you executed."
Vimes: "Yessir. But I did that simple thing you asked me to do."
Vetinari: "I suppose I'll have to take your word for it since everyone involved has fled the city." (quietly checks everything Vimes did off his 'to-do' list since he's a chessmaster that always planned for all this to happen)
It's fun! But as a relationship of some kind? Vimes isn't smart enough. Don't get me wrong, he's very intelligent and even devious when he wants to be - but Vetinari can't be in a relationship with anyone that's not also a mastermind. It would instantly be a super unhealthy relationship, because how do you have a healthy relationship with someone you can manipulate so easily? Vimes less easily than most, sure, but he still knows exactly where to apply pressure. Worse, Vimes is smart enough that he'd be watching for it! Every time something went Vetinari's way would he be thinking "wait, did I agree to go out to dinner because I want to, or because he made me THINK that I want to?"
Honestly, that would maybe be an interesting fic. Write it from Vetinari's point of view, and have the whole thing be him realizing that even when he decides NOT to manipulate Vimes he's already planning sneaky ways to let Vimes know that he's not being manipulated which is, itself, manipulative.
Anyway.
So as I said, no judgement to anyone even if it's something I have trouble picturing. Just threw me for a loop.
And if you DO start reading Discworld, good luck dealing with the many many conflicting guides to where to start.

8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go?
Oh, interesting. My gut reaction would be no action, just dialogue because I do think I'm pretty good at that... but I can actually think of a few fics I've written where it's just sort of narration, but those have been kind of experimental and haven't gone over super well. So, I'm going to say I think I could do a better job writing something with no action, and it would be something silly, probably with just dialogue.
10. Has a piece of writing ever “haunted” you? Has your own writing haunted you? What does that mean to you?
Hmm. My own writing has haunted me in that I have pieces out there that I are waiting to be finished, and they sort of hang over my head like a ghost.
In terms of other people's writing, to me "haunted" means something that has startled me and stuck with me. I can think of two examples: one is a passage from "Universal Harvester" by John Darnielle but I can't find my copy at the moment, and the other is from the end of "Turtles All The Way Down" by John Green (and isn't that a weird coincidence):
"I loved him, and I thought, maybe I will never see him again, and isn't that so terrible.
But it turns out not to be terrible, because I know the secret that the me laying beneath that sky could not imagine: I know that girl would go on, that she would grow up, have children, and love them, that despite loving them she would get too sick to care for them, be hospitalized, get better, and then get sick again. I know a shrink would say, Write it down, how you got here.
So you would, and in writing it down you realize, love is not a tragedy or a failure, but a gift.
You remember your first love because they show you, prove to you, that you can love and be loved, that nothing in this world is deserved except for love, that love is both how you become a person, and why.
But underneath those skies, your hand––no, my hand––no, our hand––in his, you don't know yet."
25. What is a weird, hyper-specific detail you know about one of your characters that is completely irrelevant to the story?
When I am writing Peter Hale, I always place him as being born in the early 80s (making him slightly younger than Ian Bohen) with Talia being 15 or so years older than him, and as such, I have very specific headcanons for the kind of music he listens to, and the movies he would be in to. This has found its way into some of my stories (in my first Steter fic, Stiles ends up in his Lalapalooza '94 shirt), but it even when it doesn't blatantly show up, it shapes everything about Peter. I would say more, but some of this will be in my upcoming fic, too...
38. What is something about your writing process YOU think is Really Weird? If you are comfortable, please share. If you’re not comfortable, what do you think cats say about us?
I sometimes get fully developed scenes that just pop into my head and I have to dictate them into my phone so I don't forget them... Idk if that's weird in general, but I do think it's weird that it appears almost how it ends up in the fic. For example,
here is what my phone transcribed for me while in the middle of writing "Stuck Between Stations" (and wow what a shitty transcription of what I was mumbling before 8am probably while brushing my teeth):

It’s nothing like Stiles would have expected if he had ever really let himself explore the fantasy of sex with Peter. And if Stiles is honest with himself, which he almost never is, he would have to admit that he had fantasised about pretty much everyone in the pack over the past few years––what else would anyone expect with such a gorgeous group of people? But if he thinks about it, his fantasies with Peter have always been opulent and dark, slow and classy, and on a bearskin rug for some reason… Stiles has to force himself back into the moment and away from whatever weird visions his brain is conjuring up and remind himself that Peter is right in front of him, solid and hard and here––even if it’s nothing like he would have expected.

OLD FAMILY FRIENDS CHAPTER FIFTEEN
It had been an interesting year but everything was alright after sometime apart Harp and Joe had made up, thankfully also has CC and Hannah also Sarah was an Auntie again Mel turns out the sickness was morning sickness she had given birth to two healthy twins a girl and a boy the girl was named Cora Grace Eagleton and a healthy baby boy named Noah Alexander Eagleton Noah is the older twin only by a minute and Sarah had fallen in love with the both of them, also Harper and Joe had decided on a wedding date and it wouldn't be until next year which gives them plenty of time to get ready but Harper had decided on having two maids of honours which was super sweet, Sarah and Andy was doing very well all the group was thrilled that they had finally gotten together after all these years.
Right now she was on warped tour supporting Andy which was the best thing ever, after a few months they finally had their intimate moment it was super sweet and Sarah celebrated her 24th birthday but as they was both together the others unfortunately couldn't be there but after what happened at Harper and Hannah's 22nd birthday party so they had a romantic dinner just the two of them it was seriously sweet Andy was of course wearing a suit and Sarah was wearing a dress for her birthday present he had given her a homemade gift which meant alot to Sarah it was a picture frame with them when they had their first day and a locket necklace with a picture of him and her parents inside which was one of the best presents she could ask for, also he performed a song for her, also a cuddly toy of Stitch and Angel which was adorable.

Right now they was both on warped tour together, which did feel weird when it was Just him and Sarah but Lonny was also there but it just wasn't the same without the others but of course Sarah had kept in contact with them Mel would sometimes join them bringing the twins along which was so much fun especially as Sarah loved babysitting with Andy whilst the parents would go out on dates or get some sleep because right now with the twins they found it very difficult but they was so thankfully for Sarah and Andy because without them their honestly wouldn't know what to do.
Right now they was back in their hometown it had been awhile since they had last visited but this time they had others with them they had Palaye Royale who Sarah had meet before and had bonded with all three of the guys straight away and then there was William Control who is a really sweet guy, they decided to do some exploring thankfully Andy's parents was coming to the show when they found out that Sarah and Andy was finally dating they was both over the moon as they saw Sarah as the daughter they never had right now in the hotel room Sarah was getting ready for the day thankfully Andy wasn't performing until this evening so they might've been keeping themselves entertained but to fair he had plenty of time to get ready.
SARAH'S OUTFIT AND HAIRSTYLE
Whilst Andy was in the shower getting ready there was a knock on the hotel room door of course they was sharing a room so she went to answer looking through the peephole first seeing that it was Palaye Royale and so she opened the door all three guys greeted her of course she greeted them back letting them in Sebastian was the last one to enter so he closed the door and joined the others who was sitting on the couch, Remington speaks up asking her "So where's the better half then?" Sarah speaks up saying, "Right now he's in the shower shouldn't be too long though so you guys excited about performing tonight?" Emerson speaks up saying, "Yeah very excited what about you looking forward to the show tonight in your and Andy's hometown?"
Sarah speaks up saying, "Yeah actually I am a little nervous but think I'm gonna be okay, plus Andy's parents are gonna be there and I honestly can't wait it's amazing how supportive they are of him, well also they're like my second parents I honestly thought when he told them that we started dating that they wouldn't approve but turns out I was completely wrong which took a weight off my shoulders." A few more minutes the four of them was still talking and laughing amongst themselves to the point that they didn't even know that Andy who was fully dressed had come out of the bathroom that was until he coughed catching the groups attention.
Sarah speaks up saying, "Oh hey babes didn't see you there." He smirks saying, "Yeah I noticed you all seem to be in deep conversation." Remington speaks up saying, "Hey dude right seeing as we've got some time to kill why don't we all go and get some food?" Sarah is the one to answer saying, "Yeah I could go for some food right about now." That is when Sebastian speaks up laughing a little saying, "Yeah I bet you've got an appetite after what you two was up too." That catches Sarah's attention and she laughs a little speaking up saying, "What was that Seb?" He shakes his head saying, "Oh nothing come on let's go and get some food we've only got a couple of hours till you other half is performing."
So the group left the hotel room of course Sarah and Andy making sure they haven't forgotten anything, as they was walking down on the corridor to get to the elevator holding hands which is something that they've gotten use too Sarah would get these butterflies still even if they've been together for nearly a year, they had decided on where to eat and it happened to be close to the venue which was perfect of course Sarah was protective of Andy because he didn't do well when it comes to speak to people and he was so appreciated for her help, the group ended up just hanging out at the restaurant.
The show was due to start at 7pm so the group had left after paying so they started getting ready to perform for the huge crowd of people that had come to see Andy, Palaye Royale and William Control who had joined them whilst at the restaurant it was almost time for Andy to go on stage and perform Lonny had also joined them but again it was still weird that the others wasn't there but they had been keeping themselves busy, whilst Andy was performing Sarah was allowed to stay at the side of the stage but she wasn't on her own she had Palaye Royale so whilst he was performing the four of them would dance, Remington would twirl Sarah around, they all had a bond with Sarah which is pretty awesome and to be fair they're down to earth guys.
Of course all four of them had already exchanged numbers so they would keep in contact the first time they had meet, Andy was performing his last song and then the guys would be going on stage next to perform a few of their songs, a little while later Andy had come off the stage after introducing the guys which the crowd was going crazy, the three brothers went on stage all excited Andy had joined Sarah at the side of the stage giving her a kiss she honestly didn't care that he was sweaty she loved him regardless and he went to change out of his clothes, Sarah decided to stay at the side of the stage just so that he couldn't get distracted.
Five minutes later he had reappeared beside Sarah putting his arms around her neck but of course not to hurt her and he rested his head on top of hers after a few more minutes his parents had come to the side of the stage after seeing his performance and Amy his mom gave Sarah the biggest hug possible without hurting her she speaks up saying, "Well look how grown up you've become it only seems like yesterday that you guys had become friends and now look at you he finally asked you out took him long enough but I am so happy for you guys."
Andy gets a little embarrassed saying, "Mom I love you but seriously do you have to embarrass me in front of my girlfriend." Sarah laughs side hugging his mom saying, "Aww my poor baby is getting embarrassed that is so sweet." She laughs and then he speaks up saying, "Dad can you help me out here please it's two against one here." Chris he's dad laughs putting his hands up and speaks up saying, "Sorry Andy but I'm not gonna get involved but in all serious we are both so proud of you two and just happy that you two finally got together." Sarah moves from Amy to Andy giving him a side hug and he put one of his arms around her waist, kissing her forehead.
Palaye Royale had finished their set and Remington introduces the final act of the night which of course is William Control and when he got on stage the three guys joined the others who was teasing Andy a little but he knew that they was just having some fun, Seb speaks up asking "Alright what's going on here why is Andy blushing?" Sarah laughs is the one to speak up saying, "We're talking about old stories about when Andy was little and how he would like to be introduced into the room to fair he did have a cute name."
It was finally the end of the day Andy's parents had gone home as it was getting late but of course they separately gave Sarah a hug which she very much appreciated and once they had gone, the guys had also left of course again each of the guys gave Sarah a hug separately of course, Then both Sarah and Andy went into their hotel room to get some much deserved sleep after all they had a very busy day and they was too tired to do anything else mainly sexually but that didn't stop them from getting all snuggle in bed, looking forward to the next stop as they didn't have many more stops left.

event horizon by @if-eventhorizon - there are some very intense and difficult themes happening in this wip straight out of the gate on some paths (memory loss, loss of self, lots of trauma processing in a space NOT made for the processing of trauma), but i'm impressed with how they're handled and also already woefully attached to thirteen, to the surprise of no one.

Indeed they're very focused on their own careers and ambitions, but they do make time for MC; and you're right when you say it isn't that they don't care, it's just that there are many other things going on outside of their relationship statuses that are quite critical for their own well being!
