im super invested in the fact that various extra materials have stated that bruno used to be the golden child until things started going to shit when he was a teenager, and i am very on board with the implication that i’ve seen others mention where its like, him being sort of blunt and too honest about that stuff is seen as cute and precocious when he’s a kid, and becomes less so as he gets older. and there’s also the general social change inthe encanto as they move further away from the circumstances that brought them there as generations who never experienced the outside world firsthand grow up.

but it also occurs to me that perhaps another reason why things would have been so different with his visions and his relationship to the town when he’s young is because if a five year old is having a vision, chances are, he’s not going to understand a lot of the context of what he’s seeing, but nobody would expect him to. so it was far more likely that someone, whether that’s alma or whoever he was doing visions for, would be there to help him interpret it or discuss it because frankly otherwise i don’t think you’re gonna get a lot of sense out of that at all, five year old logic can be very convoluted. i don’t know if this predates the sand ritual that allows others to literally see what he is seeing, but even them sitting with him and asking patient questions and redirecting his attention to certain things and giving him some suggestions would be something, like when you sit with a kid who is learning to read and let them sound out the letters and let them mistakes then once they’ve done that, you guide them to the right answers.

but then at some point expectations started to change and it went from being a collaborative “okay, lets sound this vision out together” effort, to it being something that they expect bruno to do by himself, because he’s older now and because it’s His Responsibility and because all of the kids’ gifts slowly become less of a collaborative effort alongside the townsfolk and more of a thing that the town relies on as a crutch.

and i can’t see alma necessarily being the most understanding if, say, 16 year old bruno asks her to help him interpret like she used to when he was ten years younger - and getting “aren’t you old enough to do that yourself by now??” as a response is like. the fastest way to discourage someone from ever asking for help again.

so he just tries his best to do it entirely by himself, and that’s so much extra pressure on him, not just to see things that might be very upsetting to witness, but to understand them and to not miss anything and to convey them clearly and accurately when we know that what he sees is pretty cryptic and out of order. and then if the bad visions are the result of him feeling bad in general then that’s a very self-perpetuating cycle

idk, i think it’s just so sad how we can see how much of a difference having someone else to help him interpret what he’s seeing makes with mirabel giving him an assist, both in terms of actually interpreting the events, seeing further than he had been able to, and in terms of his emotions (i gotta imagine it’s very, very rare that he’d get as excited about most of his visions as he was at the end of the one he did in antonio’s room). like, i’m pretty sure seeing the future is always gonna hold some level of trauma to it but i wonder how much could’ve been alleviated if he hadn’t also been trying to go it alone.

Shein: Fast-fashion workers paid 3p per garment for 18-hour days, undercover filming in China reveals

It is the biggest fast-fashion company in the world, making billions of pounds by unveiling thousands of new designs on its addictive website every day and selling them cheaper than anyone else. Now the first undercover investigation into factories supplying Shein, the Chinese retailer loved by millions of young women in the UK and around the globe, has exposed the disturbing experiences of workers making its clothes. Garment manufacturers in China are often working up to 18 hours a day, being paid as little as 3p per item, with no weekends and only one day off per month, a Channel 4 team has found.

This treatment of workers – who are fined two thirds of their daily wage if they make a single mistake – breaks not only Shein's code of conduct for suppliers but also Chinese labour laws. The company says it will investigate. A woman using the false name of Mei secretly filmed inside two factories where she took on jobs producing the kinds of tops that British shoppers can buy for as little as £1.49. The footage has been shared with i ahead of Untold: Inside the Shein Machine, streaming on All4 from Monday. Women in one factory are found to be washing their hair during their lunch breaks, as they have so little spare time outside of their long shifts. A man who started work at 8am, but is filmed sitting shirtless at his sewing machine after midnight, says he will not finish until 2am or 3am because he needs to complete his batch

Woods says Shein is "head and shoulders" above other fashion brands in the number of "dark patterns" it uses online. "These are behaviours on the website that force you into actions that you might not choose yourself," he explains. "Data is making marketing like a loaded weapon." Shein was contacted for comment by the documentary makers but did not respond on this matter. Data published on 6 April by The Business of Fashion showed that in the year to date, Shein had launched 314,877 separate designs in the US market, compared to 18,343 in the same period by Boohoo. This relentless onslaught suggests customers have more than 3,000 new styles to potentially view every day

The contact arranged for "Mei", one of the journalists in his network, to infiltrate the Shein supply chain in Guangzhou, a south-eastern city with a population of 14 million. Having seen what she discovered, he says: "I have been doing investigative stories in China for 15, 16 years – still [they] exploit workers like dogs. Basically it's worse than years ago."

A/N: HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE SOON TO BE SEXIEST SILVER FOX IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE!!! I hope Chris has a fabulous time in London for his birthday, and we brits are very proud to host him on this very special day 🥰

Summary: Chris had loved every moment of the Lightyear press tour right up until today

Chris normally hated having a big fuss made over his birthday. He didn’t need a big party or lots of presents. He just enjoyed spending some time with his family, drinking a couple beers and relaxing. Something he’d done on Saturday in his LA home.

But waking up completely alone in a London hotel, with not even dodger around still felt pretty crappy.

He knew it was going to be this way, and he knew it couldn’t be helped. But he still wished the London premier of Lightyear hadn’t fallen on his birthday. A day that if he was back in Boston it wouldn’t matter if his family was busy, and his niece and nephews were at school, because he’d still see everyone in the evening.

What he hated the most though was that you weren’t here, and he only had himself to blame. He was the one who convinced you it was fine, that it didn’t bother him. You had a big meeting with a client today and it would look bad if you moved it for him. So he told you to stay at home and smash your meeting and he’d see you on FaceTime later.

God why was he such a selfless meatball

Reaching over to the bedside table he grabbed his phone. He saw a few text messages from his UK based friends. So far nothing from his family or you but it was 3am back in Boston and midnight in LA so he couldn’t really blame them.

A pang of homesickness hit him as he thought about you, knowing you’d be curled up fast asleep in bed, arm probably outstretched to his side of the bed. So he pulled up the text chain with his manager and asked her to sort the earliest flight back, he didn’t care if he had to fly coach, he just wanted to be back with you.

With a long sigh Chris pushed himself up from bed and started to get ready for a day of press junkets. When he got out of the shower, walking back into his room he saw his phone light up. Grabbing it hoping it was his manager confirming the flights but to his delight it was you.

Y/N: Happy birthday sweetheart, I know you’re probably busy already but have a great day and I’ll talk to you later xxx

Chris: Thank you sweetheart, can’t wait to talk to you later, now get some sleep I know its late in LA and you need to smash that meeting xxx

Y/N: don’t worry I have my stand in snuggle buddy xxx

Chris smiled as you attached a photo of you curled up in bed with Dodger fast asleep lying next to you.

Chris: glad to see it, and only slightly jealous 😂 good luck with your meeting and I’ll talk to you later xxx

Chris continued to get ready for the day, putting on the outfit his stylist had set aside for the press junkets. Letting out another long sigh Chris mentally prepared himself for the day. He’d been enjoying doing press for Lightyear, the LA premier was the first premier he’s actually enjoyed being at in years. He felt like a kid going to the cinema for the first time. But today he was back to dreading it, wishing he was doing something else instead.

The day went by painfully slowly, alternating between zoom interview and in person ones. Every person he met was lovely, wishing him a happy birthday, but he just didn’t want to be there. It didn’t help that the ended up running behind too.

By the time Chris was making his way back to the hotel room he was exhausted. All he wanted was to collapse in bed and call you, talk to you until he fell asleep but he couldn’t. He had to start getting ready for the premier, his call with you still hours away.

He was so tired that when he opened the door to his room, the fact that the lights were on didn’t alarm him. He just didn’t even notice, letting out a long sigh as he dropped the key and his phone down on the small table by the door.

“I was beginning to worry you weren’t coming” he then heard making him jump.

He looked up eyes widening is disbelief as he saw you sat on his bed smirking over at him. He blinked a couple of time taking a few hesitant steps forward trying to work out if this was really happening or if this was jet lag catching up with him.

You smiles at him warmly standing up from the bed and closing the gap. Chris remained completely still as you rested your hands on his chest smiling up at him.

“Yes I’m really here and no this isn’t jet lag” you tell him with a gentle shake of the head “Happy Birthday sweetheart” you smiled cupping his cheek and gently kissing him.

It wasn’t until he felt your lips on his that he actually believed you were here. Snapping back to reality he instantly responded, fingers running through your hair as he cupped the back of your head. His other hand gripping your hips possessively closing any remaining distance between you.

Chris wasn’t expecting to see you like this until tomorrow at the earliest. He’d thought about your reunion all day, what he’d do when he saw you again, to the point he was struggling to hold himself back as he deepened the kiss. Feeling you hum in content as he grabbed your ass.

“As much as I love where this is going” you pant, your voice barely above a whisper as Chris attacked your neck “the team are literally just outside and I don’t think they’ll appreciate us being late to the premier” you finally get out.

Chris lets out a light chuckle, dropping his forehead against your shoulder as he nods “okay, okay” he pants catching his breath “but as soon as the premier is over we are coming straight back here and I’m having my way with you” he smirks pressing another deep kiss to your lips.

“Anything for you birthday boy” you smirk.

Chris smiles down at you shaking his head in disbelief “i still can’t believe you’re here, what happened to your meeting?”

“He called late last night saying he had a family emergency and had to postponed the meeting so I booked the earliest flight I could and here I am” you smile running yours hands over his shoulders.

“But you texted me from bed” Chris pointed out.

“I took that photo hours before I sent it, I was actually boarding the plane when I was texting you” you explain making Chris laugh in disbelief.

“You must be exhausted” Chris sigh, reaching up to push some hair off your forehead.

“I am but it was worth it, now c’mon we have a premier to get to” you smile spurring him into action, your presence giving him more energy than he’s had all day.

The entire time he got ready for the premier he couldn’t help but steal glances at you, as if you could disappear at any moment. It didn’t help that you looked incredible too, your dress perfectly complimenting his outfit. He had to give it to his stylist, because if he didn’t know any better it appeared as if you were meant to be here this entire time.

When you stepped onto the red carpet together Chris had his arm around you as soon as he could. He had no plans to let you leave his side all evening. Chris had gone to bed last night completely dreading today, but it had turned out so much better all thanks to you.

“Thank you so much, you’ve made this the best birthday ever” Chris smiled as soon as you stepped inside the cinema away from the crowds.

“Anything for my space ranger” you smile hand cupping his beard cheek, thumb cascaded through the grey patches you loved so much.

“Fahk I love you” Chris grins, his Bostonian accent slipping out as he leant down to kiss you deeply.

Needless to say as soon as the premier was over and the credits rolled, Chris led you back to the hotel to have his wicked way with you. If anything he was proud of the restraint he showed not to jump you in the car ride back.

Hi yes hello there, I'm losing my mind. So I was just perusing the lovely artwork on the Welcome Home "Welcome Home!" page and I noticed something. There are only two pictures (that I've found) of Eddie's watch that actually show the face of the watch, now the weird thing about that is its coloring. Half of it is white, and the other is black. Now if we assume that the watch is placed like an actual clock (with 12 pointing up) this would mean that the hours 9 to 6 are black. When I saw this my first thought was that 9PM to 6AM were being covered. Adding more credit to those who find it odd that both Sally has some weird moon imagery (on her clothes and house) and the fact that the show always ended before it got dark. Theorizing that stuff goes down after dark, typically, in the US, the sun sets at 9 and rises at 6. Now that I've had time to think this through I've realized that the watch would also display 9AM and 6PM in the black bits. All this to say, I have solved nothing but if I kept this in I think I would explode. Sorry for such a big...ask? (I didn't ask anything) uh, what's your favorite color?

👀👀👀 now anon, you're absolutely onto something here, but i'm not sure how much i can say!! i highly recommend going and becoming a monthly supporter of Clown's Kofi, and having a look at the concept art for Eddie there - with the understanding that no one should repost art made available only to supporters, or be discussing what's available there without Clown's consent. because of this, i'm only going to talk about the art currently available on the Welcome Home website, which we know to be canon:

you're absolutely right...that is a curious design choice. i've had a scour of the website as well and agree with you that of the canon art we have, these appear to be the only ones which show the face of Eddie's watch...and it's such a severe design for a children's puppet show character. i'm trying to think of all of the Welcome Home characters' cast designs as through the mind of being designed for children, and that makes some choices feel very odd indeed;;; i want to point out that the hours which are shaded actually appear to be 9pm till 3am - 6 hours which can be indisputably be considered night-time in the US. if one of the numbers were 6, the other would have to be 12 to make a vertical slice across the watch face. i'm unsure if this is relevant, but here in the UK, 9pm is our watershed - the hours past which adult content is allowed to be broadcast on television, with the understanding that most children will be in bed then. one could argue that the design has been simplified to convey the concepts of night and day easily to a young audience, but the sharp black half - which doesn't appear to show individual hours like the light half does - gives the idea of those times being off-limits somehow. perhaps we're overthinking it, and it really is as simple as 'Eddie and the rest of the Welcome Home cast have bedtimes similar to that of the children who watch the show, and his watch is half-blacked out to show kids when night-time is.' on the other hand...i find this sharp blackness to have a similar jarring effect to the ooze creeping out from underneath Home's door, and the spiral void we can see on the Neighbourhood map on mobile. yes, Eddie's design and the other characters have small areas of blackness to balance out the overwhelming rainbow of their designs...but this is an interesting choice indeed 👀💖 [edit] oh!!! my favourite colour's green :3c

so i didnt finish this page due to stomach pain on monday so it wasnt done tuesday, so i thought, okay, well, lets get it finished on wednesday after i take my bro out for a birthday movie.

and then i got back, took a 20 minute nap so id have a little energy to draw comics! and then i woke up 5-6 hours later, at 3am. 3 alarms slept through (despite being a light sleeper) and lights still on. the 5 hours sleep each day took its toll i suppose, so i went back to sleep, so heres the comic today!!!

speaking of waits for comics! its time for the annual fucking off period! also known as "taking a break" like i do in december, buts lets be honest, i will not be taking a break. like always i will just be working on other things because i cant just not draw for too long.

hopefully this means i will be working on a buffer, finally. i will for sure be working on making chapter 1 book ready! if im very lucky i will get that sorted and ready before next febuary (got a couple large cons there) but thats a very generous estimate and assuming self funded and not kickstarter, but i can do that with some savings if i only get a small amount of books because chapter 1 isnt long. wish me luck.

so yes, this is the last update until january unless i end up making a holiday drawing who knows.

until then, im also going to try and upload more art to my art blogs (@galaxia-art on tumblr and galaxiaprince on instagram) and speaking of socials, shameless self promotion for my etsy because if youre looking to buy something from outside the uk then the last days for doing that and getting it before christmas is the 4th-7th december (depending on country) (or the 18th if you're in the uk). if you dont care when it arrives then all's good whenever!

Spring is finally here

We’ve had a very wet and relatively mild winter in my neck of the woods with only one cold snap that lasted all of a week. Been longing for spring this whole time and now we have sure signs it’s on its way. The spring equinox here in the UK is 3am GMT 20th March, this coming Wednesday. Looking forward to it so much!

Albums of 2023 part 1

OK I started a best albums of 2023 thread as there's lots that got missed out of charts I contributed to. I got carried away and there's nearly 100, but they're all superb and I think there's something for everyone here. Start with this: a DEVASTATINGLY fresh drum'n'bass/jungle excursion from a perpetually underrated UK bass don Altered Natives.

A short but PERFECTLY formed 20 minutes of heavy, trippy R&B with surprise UKG and even drum'n'bass twists, Tinashe deserves so much more credit as an innovator...

I was late to this one but should've known the Hive Mind label always delivers. Swedish-based guitarist Vumbi Dekula delivering track after track of perfection like it's as easy as breathing.

I've always enjoyed Lana Del Rey when she's at her most benzo-haze - and this Mitski album hits that spot perfectly... not that it's all dissociated - it's very smart and sharp - but you can easily drift away into it.

Metallica, Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie covers in a millennium old Inuit language? Well yes - and in Elisapie's hands it's DEVASTATING. I played the Leonard Cohen one out at 3am in a chillout room in the summer and it was real, REAL magic.

TONN3RR3 & BIKAY3 = French live electronic beats of various flavours + EXTREMELY eccentric Congolese vocalist = braincell-scrambling funtimes...

First of two major trip-outs from Optimo Music last year - with Op:l Bastards and then K-X-P, Timo Kaukolampi is best known for motorik cosmic synth rock, but here everything is stripped away except the abstract cosmic, and wow it'll give you vertigo if you let it.

The presence of Peter Zummo here leads to automatic Arthur Russell comparisons for Greek-British brothers áthos - and it's not NOT Arthur-ish.... but more, it's operating in the same boho world of freedom as he did, and finds its own delicate voice within that.

Another massively unsung talent, original Moving Shadow / - now Over/Shadow - crew, half of Mixrace with the mighty Paradox (they also had a great record out this year), Dave Trax makes THE most exquisite soulful but heavy d'n'b and this album is among his best.

Melbourne's always been musically interesting, but this new duo project from a Gorillaz / Genesis Owusu collaborator Mindy Meng Wang 王萌 with Sui Zhen is above and beyond. Sort of fourth world but more advanced (fifth world??), it's a really personal, precise and endlessly fascinating thing.

Dunno how Jamal Moss does it so prolifically but consistently: an endless flow of machine funk like a jet of magma from the centre of the earth. Add Polish saxophonist Jerzy Maczynski to the mix making Universal Harmonies & Frequencies, and the results are overwhelmingly ecstatic.

Holmer zooms into the essential something that links Mary Chain, Goldfrapp, Stereolab, Cocteaus and all their influences in turn... a kind of pure essence of motorik, psychedelic, magickal pop..... Such an instant, potent, pleasure-centres hit.

Your favourite DJ's favourite DJ's favourite DJ Jerome Hill is also no shabby producer and every one of these eight tracks is the platonic ideal of a bleeping, clonking, tweaking, hot, sweaty, bassy dancefloor banger.

Need a reminder that it hasn't all been done before in electronic music? TSVI got you covered: this is the FRESHEST gear, but never innovating for innovation's sake - always about emotions & composition first. Includes several Loraine James contributions too \(more to come from her....) ❤️

The kind of drone music that can give you superpowers if you make space to really soak it in. Kali Malone x Lucy Railton x Stephen O'Malley = AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!

The Magic Numbers pretty much passed me by, but this solo album from the band's Michele Stodart is the epitome of Soft Music For Hard Times, real quiet dignity stuff, beautiful subtlety to production/arrangment and just the kind of countrified songwriting I adore.

A second one from Hive Mind, and another supermodernist feeling one - ultra sophisticated stuff from the Rio de Janeiro polymath Ricardo Dias Gomes: is it post-rock? Indietronica? Neotropicália? Yes/no/whatever... watch out there's a noisy surprise at the end!

Is it me or is R&B / neo soul wayyyyy more experimental than hip hop at the moment? Like the Tinashe and Janelle albums, this is super short but WOW does Madison McFerrin pack a lot of innovation, emotion and just v.i.b.e.s. into its 27 minutes

Very cleverly structured because it starts quite timid and slight, which it turns out is maybe expectation management? But Andre Three Stacks builds into something that demands repeat plays - and a megastar bringing Don Cherry meets Hiroshi Yoshimura vibes into the world?? It's not quite the masterpiece I'd hoped for but it is GREAT.

The perfect (paradoxical?) combination of being absolutely true to the unchanging groove of Detroit, but also pushing it forwards sonically... DJ Bone STILL sounds like the future.

A second appearance for the most fun abstract cellist out there, Lucy Railton - this record is really tricky, it feels different from different angles, keeps throwing surprises at you, the proverbial "a lot to unpack"... but it's GREAT.

hinako omori somehow emerges from a wellspring circa 1979-81 when prog synth meandering was feeding into e.g. Kate Bush, Eurythmics, Japan, and then traces through that into 00s post trance pop but it doesn't sound retro? HOW?

Another small but perfectly formed one. Amazing that Ultramarine's elegant, pastoral, ECM-ish house explorations are still so exploratory and moving after all these years - and they fit perfectly on the Blackford Hill label which had an extraordinary year too.

In a year when not a lot of hip hop floated my boat, this was a glorious exception. Kind of odd it didn't get more hype really - Kaytra absolutely on top of his game, partnership with Aminé flows together just like their names, guest spots on point, vibes upon vibes upon vibes (instrumental version is great too!)

David Harrow is the absolute epitome of real craftsmanship honed over years and years - and this album of dub and downtempo tracks with rich layering of singing modular synths is a really magical exercise in world-building.

Fucking. Boy sent me this and it's the first thing I've woken up to and now I'm just pissed.

So the article talks about how in the scene they are talking about how, when you have used all other possible avenues, violence is the only thing you have left and it can work to achieve the thing you want. Then it talks about the fact this has only been aired once in its entirety in the UK (in 2007, before 3am), and it's had censored versions aired in the UK and Ireland cutting this scene at the time.

The author of the episode talks about how she wanted to talk about if violence is acceptable, and that the question is never answered. It's left open.

What it does not mention is, is it alright to force the people you live along side to try and convert to your way of thinking through violence. Violence is not something used against some abstract other. You have to believe that what you are doing is worth killing your neighbour for.

When you are talking about "all other avenues have been used" what you mean is the people you are talking to do not agree in your goals, so you will kill them for it. And when you start talking about is Terrorism ok, you're talking about whether it's ok to kill people who have nothing to do with the thing at all because the person you want to kill might care about them enough to change their mind, or because they look like someone who might be the person you're fighting, or because you're frustrated, or because their lives aren't worth as much as the point you want to make.

And when this episode was written and aired it was not some abstract thinking exercise, it had already killed people. The Troubles ended in 1998 and killed over 3500 people, over half of those were civilians. Republican paramilitary killed about 60%, loyalists killed about 30%, and security forces about 10%.

I fucking hate this meme and I can't wait for 2024 to be over so it fucks off.

Relaxing in bed, Dodger curled up beside you, you smiled when you heard the sound of Chris FaceTime’ing you. As soon as the call connected you were greeted with his warm but tired smile.

“Hey sweetheart how are you?” You smiled.

“Tired, jet lag is a bitch but I’m happy to see you” he smiles, stifling a yawn.

“Are you having fun though?” You ask him.

“Yeah lots, I’m doing interviews with Ana still and you know she’s fun, and you know it’s a movie I do want to promote, it could be worse, could be stuck with people I don’t like, promoting a movie that I didn’t enjoy making,” Chris says shrugging his shoulders before smiling gently “that being said I would rather be at home with you”

You smiled back at him “me too, that hotel bed does look comfy though”

“Oh it is” Chris chuckles wiggling himself back into the plush pillows “it was an outrage that I only got a few hours sleep last night”

“What time did you have to get up this morning?” You ask him.

“At like 4:30 am so we could pre-record the radio interview, I’m pretty sure I nearly fell asleep at least twice,” Chris says making you laugh.

“And all the questions are nice? Nothing coming back to bite you in the ass?” You ask trying not to smirk since you already knew the answer.

Chris groaned dropping his head back against his pillow “You know exactly what’s biting me in the ass right now” he groans.

“I think it's sweet that so many people are invested in your happiness,” you tell him.

He lets out a long sigh finally looking back at you “yeah I guess, I just didn’t expect it to blow up like it did” Chris shrugs “like we get so many boring questions and this question was a good one so I wanted to give them a good answer in the hopes that it would spur on more good questions” he sighs

“I get it, like training a puppy, you reward good behaviour,” you say nodding your head.

“Exactly! Except it backfired and now it’s the only thing I get asked about” Chris groans “and it wasn’t even an honest answer! Like I wanted to say how I was laser focused on building something with you but we’re not public yet and it was the next best thing to say and urgh! Just wish I kept my mouth shut”

You give him a sympathetic smile, which makes the worry lines on his face disappear “you can say I told you so now” he sighed.

You gasp laughing “I wasn’t going to!” You exclaim.

“Yes you were,” Chris says pointing at you “that night when I told you about it you said and I quote ‘aren’t you worried that it could blow up?’ And I said nah it probably won’t but it did so you were right”

“Doesn’t mean I wanted to be right” you point out.

“I guess so” Chris sighs his shoulders slumping slightly.

“It isn’t stressing you out, is it? Because if you’re worried about it bothering me it really doesn’t” you tell him.

He gives you a small lopsided smile “no not really, hopefully after the radio interview people will move on it's just frustrating that’s all” he says shaking his head gently.

“I know, but look just focus on the positives: the press tour is nearly done and you had a great time with Ana, and the internet is even more in love with you,” you tell him gently.

A lopsided grin grew on his face “you forgot one thing, I’m nearly back home to you” he smiles.

Okay Gramps - Chris Evans x Reader

Summary: Chris isn’t happy his iPhone 6s finally died

You and Chris didn’t often fight and if you did it was generally over something minor, like leaving the toilet seat up, or not putting clothes in the hamper.

However the most reoccurring argument was over his phone that was so old that it functioned more as a metal brick than an actual phone. You had begged him for years to update it, saying it was not worth the nightly battle just to get it to charge, or the poor battery life.

However he just took it to the nearest Apple store to get it repaired. That process repeating until the Apple store refused to repair it because they didn’t have parts anymore because it was that old.

You were certain he’d spent more on getting it repaired than it would cost to just buy a new phone.

You finally won the battle though when you got pregnant and with your due date only getting closer you told him it was not safe for him to be unreachable because his phone’s charge wouldn’t last an hour. The last thing you wanted while going into labour was calling all his friends and family trying to track him down.

However he was probably the only person on earth that wasn’t excited to get a new phone.

“I don’t like the lack of buttons” he huffs as he looks at his new iPhone 13.

“It makes it sleeker and gives you a bigger screen” you point out.

“I guess but I don’t really like the face scan thing either, doesn’t seem safe” he mumbles as he goes through the setting up process.

You roll your eyes at him “they have privacy systems in place, and you were perfectly fine with them having your fingerprint” you point out nodding to his old phone.

“Yeah but what if hackers can access it, they have our faces on file, they could make fake identities” Chris argues shaking his head.

“Oh boy just you wait until you find out about driver’s licenses and all that” you say sarcastically, running your hand over your bump, feeling the baby kick your hand “see even the baby thinks you’re being ridiculous”

Chris rolls his eyes letting out a small huff of a laugh. But still lets out a long sigh as he frowns down at his new phone.

You reach out taking his hand in yours squeezing it reassuringly “look I know you hate tech and thinks its all over complicated nowadays, and i’ll be honest I agree with you to a certain extent” you tell him getting him to look over at you “but you’ll get used to the new phone just like you did with your old one all those centuries ago” you add with a smirk.

Chris finally lets out a good laugh at that, smiling over at you “yeah you’re right, and I have to remind myself its for this one here” he sighs reaching over to rest his large hand over your bump.

“Exactly and think of all the cute non grainy photos you’ll take” you smile watching at his smile grows wider.

“Yeah I can’t wait” he grins leaning over to kiss you.

Just like you said it didn’t take long for Chris to get used to his new phone, he was almost like an excited kid once he found out all the cool features. Often running over to you to show you the adorable photo he’d just taken of Dodger.

“Look how clear it is! You can see every detail! And his eyes!” Chris exclaims as he shows you the most recent photo he took of dodger.

“See tech isn’t so scary after-all” you smirk kissing him on the cheek.

“I never said I was scared of it” Chris huffs rolling his eyes at you.

“Okay gramps” you laugh.

Chris arches a brow at you shaking his head “you’re lucky I love you” he says as he kisses your cheek.

“I love you too” you laugh

Silver Fox - Chris Evans x Reader

Summary: Chris isn’t too happy that he’s getting older, good thing he has you around.

Warning: Age Gap (Reader is in their early 30s)! Bit of Angst! Insecurity! Fluff!

A/N: I wrote this on my phone almost immediately after waking up so it’s barely edited!

You let out a long yawn as you walked out of the closet dressed in a pair of shorts and one of Chris’ old tops. You ran your hands down your face as you walked across the bedroom towards the bed that was calling for you.

As you went you passed by the bathroom where you spotted Chris stood in front of the mirror. You paused in your journey turning towards the bathroom, leaning against the doorframe as you admired him.

All he wore was some dark blue checkered pj bottoms, his bare chest on show giving you the best view of his numerous tattoos. As your eyes ran over his body, appreciating what was yours, your gaze finally settled on his face.

You watched as he tilted his head side to side, up and down, fingers running through his beard. The small frown on his face and long sigh telling you something wasn’t right.

“Hey” you say gently getting his attention.

He startles slightly, having not realised you had been watching him. His hands instantly fall from his face as he turns to face you, trying to lean casually against the counter.

“Hey?” He says with a slight questioning tone.

“What’s wrong?” You ask him gently.

He shakes his head slightly giving you a smile you could tell was forced “nothing’s wrong”

“Chris”

Chris lets out a long sigh knowing he wasn’t going to get out of this one, he glances back in the mirror the frown from before reappearing.

“I’m going grey” he sighs sadly.

You frown slightly, surprised and confused that that was the reason he was upset.

“I know it’s stupid and it’s a natural part of ageing but it just reminds me of how old I am and how much older I am then you and I worry that you won’t like it” he explains turning back to face the mirror, hands running over the small grey patches in his beard.

“You’re right it is stupid”

You close the distance between the two of you, your hand taking his getting him to face you. Chris watches your every move with wary eyes as your hands run up his arms, over his chest before moving up to cup his cheeks. Your thumbs gently running over his beard.

“Because I love your little grey patches, I think they’re so unbelievably sexy” you tell him gently, his eyes widening in surprise.

“You don’t mean that”

“I do, I love all of you, every single grey hair, and wrinkle” you say making his face scrunch up “because it means you’ve lived a life, and a pretty amazing one if I have to say”

A small smile plays at the corner of his lips but you could tell he was still unconvinced.

“All these wrinkles” you say, your thumb running over his smile lines “remind me of every time you’ve smiled and laughed, which I love because its the best sight in the world and makes my heart soar”

“And I love these little grey patches because I already know you are going to be the sexiest silver fox in the world” you smirk making Chris chuckle gently.

“But the thing I love most is that for every grey hair, or wrinkle or anything, there is a new part of you for me to love” you finish, the smile on Chris’ face back in full force showing off those smile lines you loved so much.

He cups your cheeks guiding your lips up to his, all the love and thanks he could give filtering through. As he pulls away he presses another kiss to your forehead muttering under his breath how much he loved you.

“I love you too sweetheart” you smile tilting your head back so you could capture his lips once more.

Whenever Chris had to take Dodger to the vets he always made sure to go at awkward times that no one else went. The last thing he wanted was to be recognised, especially if Dodger was sick.

Today though it was just a general check-up and Dodger's annual jabs. The waiting room was quiet since it was now very late in the day. Dodger sat patiently waiting, his tail slowly wagging as Chris sat scrolling on his phone. Chris trying not to huff in annoyance as he still tried to get used to his new phone, wanting nothing more than to head home and get some rest after a tiring day of meetings.

“Dodger Evans?” A female voice called out.

Chris’ head snapped up since he was expecting his usual vet, one that was very much male. He blinked a couple of times as he came to his senses and stood up, wiping his hands on his jeans.

“Hi that’s me- I mean us- Dodger that’s Dodger,” Chris says stumbling over his words before pointing down at Dodger who was giving him a quizzical look.

You chuckle gently “well it’s lovely to meet you, I’m Dr Y/L/N, but please call me Y/N” you smile instantly putting Chris at ease, turning away to lead them to the examination room.

“Chris” he replied “I’m Chris” he clarified when you looked back at him slightly confused.

“Nice to meet you, now c’mon and let's get you checked out hey pal” you smile down to dodger before leading them into the examination room.

“Hey um I don’t mean to sound rude or anything but what happened to Dr Stevenson?” Chris asked as he shut the door behind him.

“He’s had to take some time off for a family emergency so I’ve taken over some of his clients, and since I’m new to the practice I’ve been given the graveyard shifts” you explain as you grab your stethoscope from the side.

“Ah nice, I mean not nice for you and for Dr Stevenson” Chris rambles scratching the back of his neck nervously.

You flashed him another smile that made him instantly relax and get more nervous at the same time. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d been so flustered around someone, usually he was pretty good at this but you were so different.

He could tell you were tired like he was but you still had the brightest smile on your face. Despite wearing absolutely no makeup and your ponytail being a little messy you still looked absolutely stunning in your pale green scrubs, a fact Chris would have to re-evaluate later once he was alone. The thing that amazes him the most though was the warmth you gave off, it made him feel like he was being enveloped in the biggest hug ever even though you were standing on the opposite side of the room.

“Right then pal shall we make sure everything is looking good?” You smile bending down to be at eye level with Dodger.

Dodger instantly started wiggling, trying to lick your face which just made you laugh “oh yes thank you, oh yes you’re very kind, can you sit for me? Sit?” You tell him, Dodger obeying without Chris needing to do anything.

Dodger sat patiently, his tail wagging as you checked the condition of his teeth, gums, eyes and ears.

“You’re such a good boy aren’t you? Now stay nice and still for me” you smile grabbing the stethoscope from your neck and listening to his lungs and heart.

“Yes you’re such a good boy” you smile scratching Dodger behind the ears before standing back up “how is he with injections?” You ask looking over at Chris.

“Oh um yeah usually pretty good,” Chris says nodding his head.

“Okay cool, well just to be safe do you want to just sit in front of him and give him some fussing since I’m a stranger that’s about to stab him with a needle” you joke making Chris laugh.

“Yeah sure not a problem” Chris smiles.

He crouches down in front of Dodger, stroking his head and reassuring him while you got the injections ready. Once you crouched down beside Chris, just out of Dodger’s eye-line, Chris’ heart skipped a beat when he realised how close you were to him. As you worked Chris watched you, noticing the small furrow of your brows as you concentrated and the light spattering of freckles across your cheeks and nose.

“You’re such a brave boy, well done!” You smile as you praise Dodger “I think you deserve a treat!” You add as you grab a chicken bite from the jar.

Dodger sits patiently as he waits for his treat, something that makes you laugh gently and Chris decides that your laugh was his favourite sound.

“So is everything all good?” Chris asks.

The Howlers share a glimpse of new music with their 'Live From Metropolis' EP

Featuring previous singles 'Nothing To Lose' and 'Further Down The Line', taken from their recently released second EP, the London-based trio are also debuting new material with 'When The Flowers Bloom Again' and 'Once Again (Matador Reprise)' on the body of work out today.

Speaking about the release, vocalist and guitarist Adam Young says, "As a band we have always taken pride in our live shows and it's something we have wanted to capture for a while but Metropolis Studios pulled it all together.

After we mastered our last EP in the studio the team we work with saw the potential for a live recording and extended the invitation to us. The invite was an honour in itself but also a daunting challenge to meet expectations. Rather than playing it safe we thought we would throw in two new songs, or at least the version of those tracks at the time.”

He continues, “Due to other commitments, and also Foo Fighters starting the Taylor Hawkins tribute rehearsals in the studio, we had to record it overnight, finishing at 3am. In all that craziness we are pretty proud of how this record has turned out capturing the raw energy of our live performances."

Earlier in the year the trio released their most accomplished work to date, their second EP 'Further Down The Line'. A collection of four tracks which evidence a leap in maturity sonically, whilst still staying true to the trademark Howlers musicality, it was produced by Chris Ostler and Tommy Taylor from Black Honey and mastered by Felix Davis (Lana Del Rey, Easy Life, Public Access TV) at Metropolis Studios.

The Howlers burst back onto the scene over summer with 'Nothing To Lose'. Inspired by soul and Motown, the track is a melting pot of warm and nostalgic sounds blended with fiery and fresh tones, and it was ultimately vocalist Adam Young's foray into the back catalogue of tambourine player Norman Whitfield which led to the creation of the single first and foremost.

Visually boasting single and EP artwork by Brian Cannon (Oasis, The Verve), the images captured at a Soul All Nighter in Wigan, 2012, lend themselves perfectly to the sound and themes The Howlers are conveying with this new project.

The Howlers have quickly established themselves as an unstoppable force in the live arena. Critical acclaim has rolled in for the band from the likes of BBC 6Music, KEXP, BBC Radio 1 and The Independent, whilst their music has also been heard on television programmes and platforms such as Welcome To Wrexham (featuring Ryan Reynolds), Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Amazon Prime and SoccerAM.

Showing off the EP around the country before its release, the band recently completed a UK headline tour which culminated at Hoxton's dazzling Colours on 7th October. In the new year the band will continue their live crusade by joining The Family Rain on their UK tour.

Quadrantid meteor shower 2023: How to see the first meteor shower of the new year

The Quadrantids are one of the strongest meteor showers of the year, with an hourly rate comparable to the Geminids in December (when we were offered excellent viewing) and the Perseids in August. The Quadrantid meteor shower often produces bright fireballs, however, viewing conditions for 2023 are less than ideal.

When can you see the Quadrantid meteor shower 2023 in the UK?

The Quadrantid meteor shower began on 28 December 2022 and will continue through to 12 January 2023. The shower reaches its peak tonight, 3-4 January, when we can expect to see a maximum of around 110 meteors per hour!

The Quadrantids are one of the strongest and most consistent meteor showers, with heightened activity for a few hours on either side of the peak. Numbers will drop off steeply over the following week, before the annual shower wraps up on 12 January. Unlike other meteor showers with peaks that can last for a couple of days, the Quadrantids have a sharp peak that only lasts for a few hours.

The shower peaks at 3am on 4 January, so the best time to look up and maximise your chances of spotting a Quadrantid is between around midnight tonight and 6am, before the sky lightens and the Sun rises at 8:05am (as seen from London).

However, conditions are looking rather grey and cloudy, and weather warnings for rain are in place for much of the UK until 6am on 4 January. So it may be a case of peering through the breaks in cloud cover – if we’re lucky.

Where to look

If we do get lucky with the weather, the Quadrantid’s radiant is actually in an extinct constellation, Quadrans Muralis (Latin for mural quadrant), which is where the shower gets its name. It’s one of the forgotten constellations, and is now part of the Boötes constellation, near the Plough asterism in Ursa Major. The location from where the meteors appear to originate is called the radiant.

To find the radiant, extend the line of the handle in the Plough (called the Big Dipper in the US), following the arc of the handle until you come to Arcturus, a red giant in the constellation Boötes (although from our POV it shines more orange than red). The radiant is located between the end of the ‘tail’ in Ursa Major and the ‘head’ in Draco.

In the northern hemisphere (the southern hemisphere will very rarely see any activity), the radiant will remain low in the sky, around 20.4 degrees at midnight, but rising to 40.5 degrees by the peak at 3am. But you don’t need to look directly at the radiant to see the meteors as they will be visible across the whole sky; just try to get as wide a view of the whole sky as possible.

How many meteors will we be able to see?

During the Quadrantid meteor shower, you can expect to see a peak of around 110-120 meteors per hour. The peak (known as the peak zenithal hourly rate, ZHR) is short and sharp, so it can be easily missed if clouds or a bright Moon spoil the occasion.

Activity varies year on year, and in reality, for 2023 it looks as though we’ll be seeing considerably less. Even if we’re offered a break in the clouds, there’s still a nearly-full waxing gibbous Moon to contend with, so conditions could be better.
