very disjointed thoughts on ch2
Please note that this isn't a theory. While I talk about the likely culprits of this case, I'm not making any definitive statements about who the killer is. I state who I think the killer is, but like. It's probably wrong, anyway. We don't have that much information yet.
Please note that some stuff might be wrong because I haven't gone back and rewatched the entirety of drdt ch2. If there's something wrong in here you can let me know.
Let's start with the gym tape. While I've seen many people point that only Eden, Teruko(did not do it, assuming we have a reliable narrator) or Ace could have grabbed the gym tape, but I also think it's possible that Levi could have taken it. This is due to our limited view from Teruko's POV. When Ace is having his home invasion Open Up! breakdown in front of Nico's door, after Levi offers to help him with his neck, Ace has his little we no besties spiel and then goes to his room. I think this because we hear a door slam immediately afterwards. Is it possible he just ran to the infirmary? Yes, but we know the infirmary has a sliding door. If he closed the door that hard we hear a slam, considering how far apart the living quarters are from the infirmary, I'm quite impressed by how stable that sliding door is. He really has no other reason to go to any other room while his neck is bleeding. But notably, we hear Levi walk off before Teruko decides that it's time to let the plot pass. Where did he go? It's possible he just went to the infirmary, but we also don't know where Eden went. Maybe Eden followed him to the gym? Maybe she gave him the sticky tape because he wanted it for some reason?
I can't refute the idea that maybe someone was in their room and overheard everything, we know from the cactus scene that the rooms aren't soundproof, and then decided to pick up the gym tape later. I also can't refute the idea that Ace could still be Arei's killer due to again, the gym tape and the resistance band from like. I want to say episode 2 or 3? Sorry I'm too lazy to rewatch things I immediately can't remember. I also... don't remember if it actually is a resistance band, as I'm not well-versed in gym equipment(Teruko moment), but I want to say so. I think it's fairly obvious some sort of contraption, probably a pulley lever of some kind, was used to kill Arei due to the scuff marks on the playground equipment that are fairly straight that indicate that there was a rope tied to there, and the friction from the rope took the paint/created the scuff marks off as the water filled jugs with the fish in it had enough combined mass to create enough force to snap Arei's neck when she dropped(hence why the handles on the jug are broken), all this to say that the resistance band could have been used to bind everything together, as the synthetic rubber would be unlikely to break even when stretched a lot. In a show with a limited runtime, they're not gonna just drop a detail like "Ace has the resistance band" and not use it somehow now, or in a later chapter. chekhov's gun or smth like that i dunno
*
Let's talk the infirmary scene. I regret to tell you that my brain is made of sponge and I don't remember what day of ch2 Arturo decides to bend a full 60 degrees downward and threaten a girl only 13 inches taller than Levi's boobs, but I do remember that the conversation about Arturo's secret only happens before Arei intervenes. She does hear the tail end of it, which maybe means the killer decided to run a lap around the place and come back later once they saw Arei, but that... just does not make any sense to me. (So like, how would Arei have not caught someone else just eavesdropping in front of the infirmary? It's a sliding door without anything like a potted plant to hide behind). Basically, how does the killer know both that Eden has Arturo's secret and that Arei promised to do anything for Eden? I'll get to that later but I don't think that's a plot hole. I think this detail is actually extremely relevant and something Charles catches on to in his refutation of the crime.
It's also entirely possible that Eden's the killer and this is an irrelevant thing to bring up, but. We'll get to that later too. I wish I put in more than two seconds of thought before writing this.
*
Here I'd like to discuss the cliffhanger we were left on, aka Charles' refutation of the time. (Honestly, I don't even remember what time David was in the relaxation room, possibly rendering this entire write up moot but whatever...) Charles is an interesting character in a class trial because his perspective on the crime is going to be different from everyone else. Since he can't be looking at our strung up victim, he basically has to visualize the crime soon based on details orally told to him. In other words, he's less likely to make assumptions than even us as viewers. This is kind of awkward considering I just said he doesn't make assumptions but like. Consider, for a moment, what we've been assuming about this crime. So much of the 10th??? episode is based on the contents of the note. Now, I'm not going to say the note is completely irrelevant to the case. But why are we taking all the evidence left behind that the killer, who likely has no witnesses or at least has an accomplice that's helping them, at face value?
Why are we assuming that note isn't a fake piece of evidence, basically. Not in the sense that it's completely irrelevant, as I believe that note is going to be the killer's downfall ironically enough, but why are we assuming that Arei ever got that note at all? Who's to say that the killer didn't just write that note up after killing Arei, then tore it up and put in the trash so they'd have fewer people actually investigating the crime scene? It's an incredibly smart piece of misdirection actually, considering how good it was at breaking David's mind over the guilt he feels in "convincing" Arei to try to be a better person.
This is why I believe that there isn't a plot hole when it comes to the killer knowing both Arei's promise to Eden and that Eden has Arturo's secret. I believe that the crime never occurred at 7:30, sometimes either before or after that time, at the crime was a spontaneous one after a confrontation with Arei. If Arei divulged this information, it would explain a lot of things.
I acknowledge this is also a giant assumption that's probably wrong. Essentially, I'm imagining that Charles did what is kind of like a proof by contradiction(think the most common way of showing √2 is irrational) and he's putting all the evidence he knows together and thinking "if I assume this is wrong, do other things begin to make sense?" and if you think that the time is wrong, many other things about the case begin to fall into place.
I think a lot of the reason we take the note at face value is because of how straightforward the first trial was, and Min was under a lot of duress. Much of the evidence was extremely helpful at nailing her as the killer(the water especially) and I don't really consider the out of order sign to be fake evidence, since it made the light switch even more conspicuous. I was waiting for the reveal that Min gave the water to somebody only to find out that Min was the killer. Anyway, this is also why I don't think Eden or Arturo is the killer. Not in the sense that they have no motive, but like. If they were the killer, why on earth would you leave that note behind? Why wouldn't you eat the note cookie monster style or just flush it down the toilet? It's just paper. One of the key components of dr trials is trying to frame another person for your crime(like Min) because a "perfect crime" is essentially impossible in such a tight, cramped setting. Eden really has no reason to leave that behind, especially for a crime this good. It's just weird to me that you would set up this whole contraption(which i believe was done to give Arei the least amount of pain as possible because like. Why wouldn't you just bind her wrists and drown her in the relaxation room pond then? It saves you way more trouble than going fish scooping with the water. Death from spinal cord injuries generally??? cause near instant death) and then just assume "they're never gonna look through the trash" cuz like... okay... why even bother ripping it up then... why leave that there if you didn't want it to be found? It places too much suspicion on Eden.
That was a lot of yapping for what is essentially Charles' quote during the trial, "Are you simply saying you took the killer's Arei's words at face value?"
*
motives!! my favorite. (please pretend this is a good transition) i love thinking about how weirdly worded these are, and why is the mastermind so weirdly sympathetic to Xander? "Your family is dead and you deserve to feel bad about it you were a selfish little boy" essentially conveys the exact same thing and all the "boohoo, but it's not your fault" at the end (Xander is one of my favorite characters I'm just mean) is completely unnecessary in a motive. If you compare the wording of the motives, Xander's secret compared to Arturo's is like day and night. One absolves him of guilt, and the other places the blame on him. Sure, maybe the mm already knows Xander is dead so he's not gonna be tempted or whatever but there's still no reason for it to be so cozy.
Speaking of Xander's motive! I am someone that believes David is lying about receiving Xander's secret and that's Teruko's secret. A very unoriginal thought, considering Teruko straight up says Xander's secret is also missing, implicitly implying she doesn't believe David at all, but I'll explain why. I'm going to assume(lol) that all the names under the motives that have been revealed besides Xander's are correct. Too much mental gymnastics otherwise. So we have Teruko, Hu, Veronika, Levi, and Min. Despite what I said earlier, all the secrets are very carefully worded. Particularly, the secret talks about parents and siblings. Parents, as in two or more parents. Siblings, as in two or more. Let's knock off each candidate. Teruko only mentions knowing of an (older??? maybe i hallucinated this detail) brother. Why would she feel any guilt over any other siblings she maybe has? Next, Levi. I think in like episode 1, Levi mentions only his mother and brothers. So he's got the siblings part, but no two more parents. Min's parents I think??? Were probably implicitly implied to be alive in her bonus episode, at least before entering Hope's Peak. Hu and Veronika... ok I've got nothing other than "I think they have each other's secret."(Veronika's secret is very well foreshadowed I think and so is Hu's) That's not an argument at all but just roll with it.
So now. Whose motive did Arei get?
Ok this is not an original thought at all either. I think it's Levi's. There are plenty of other posts floating around this website and Twitter about Levi's suspicious behavior during the trial, the whole scene with him and Eden during episode 1, his weirdly violent tendencies, Arei glaring at him in initial motive giveaway, go look for those instead. They're much better written and much more concise and they deserve your support. If he didn't want Arei to suffer, if this murder was something triggered(I've noticed there are some parallels to the structure of the first dr game), this whole neck breaking thing makes way more sense.
He's also probably the only one that could knock Arei out quickly before she screamed without the use of turpentineagain^tm. If the killer used turpentine again I've got nothing against that either, it just makes Ace more suspicious.
I didn't know where to place this, and I know this thing is getting too long, but Hu is also very suspicious due to the wire used by Nico on Ace probably being hers. I've also got nothing for that other than "I think her arc has too much setup to blow up this early." Same with Ace.
*
anyway here's who i think is the most likely culprit
1 Levi
2 J/Ace
3 Hu/Whit
4 Eden/David
5 everyone else
when chapter 2 is over if i've left the fandom for some reason and even if i'm still here(probably) you are all allowed to send me pictures of clowns when I'm inevitably proven wrong. permission granted to be a little mean

edgeworth-maya friendship is the best thing that never actually happened in the series. but they are. to me. intergenerational different as night and day very weird little besties.
I want her to talk him into watching a steel samurai marathon together. it sends edgeworth into a complete conflict of “specific forms of socialising are difficult at the best of times, let alone solely with one of wright’s young peers” and “oh, I REALLY want to watch and talk about this subject I deeply enjoy with someone”. maya knows this. she knows she’s making a good offer, she’s got him in her grasp. she’s enjoying that a little, too. but mostly she just wants to watch steel samurai.

you know, going to work after getting my heartbroken just a few hours ago isn't the most ideal morning i had in mind.
my boyfriend, well, now ex-boyfriend had apparently been cheating on me for months now. to think we almost lasted 2 years together, and to think i thought he was as perfect as one could get, guess i was completely wrong. he didn't even pretend to hide it, he was all cocky about it, fucking douchebag.
i had just finished getting ready and i looked like a mess. the bags under my eyes are as dark as ever, my eyes are red and puffy too, i can't believe i spent the whole night crying over that asshole.
i left my house and waited for the elevator to reach my floor. someone appeared next to me a few minutes later. i would've taken a quick peak if i wasn't on the verge of tearing up again. the elevator door opened and we both got in.
the person that got in with me stood closer to the control panel, and i stood in a far corner. "are you going to the ground floor?" i looked at the person and it was a guy who looked pretty attractive. he had these pretty brown eyes that sort of resembled a cat?
"oh uh.. yeah" he nodded and pressed on the ground floor button, which i assume is where he was headed as well. i thanked him as the elevator slowly went down from the 17th floor. now that i think about it, i don't think i've ever seen this guy around here, even more so on my floor.
i was debating whether or not to start up a quick conversation with him when he suddenly spoke. "so.. you live on the 17th floor too?" "uh.. yeah. we kind of got on the elevator on the same floor.." "right right.." he nodded awkwardly before turning away from me.
'that was awkward'
"did you just move here?" i asked him. he looked back and answered with a quick nod. "ah, welcome to the neighborhood, i'm lee y/n, and i assume we're neighbors?" i bowed slightly to welcome him around here and he did the same. "thank you. i'm yang jungwon."
'that's a cute name'
we went silent again, but this time it was more comfortable than it was before.
suddenly the elevator lights flickered and the elevator shook a little. and after a while the shaking and flickering stopped, but so did the elevator itself.
"ah.. i can't believe we're stuck here" jungwon said as he pressed the emergency button.
knowing the apartment complex, it would probably take half an hour for someone to get us out. so might as well start conversing to pass some time.
"it's gonna take the management a while to get here" he looked back at me, a hint of confusion could be seen from his eyes. "does this happen a lot?" "not really? i was just unfortunate to have this happen last year as well. not to mention it was the first day of my new job that day" i laughed it off and jungwon seemed to be a bit taken aback. "did you get into trouble for it?" "not really. i explained the situation to my boss and she totally understood me" he nodded in, i assume relief, that i wasn't in trouble.
i suddenly received a text message and just as i saw the contact name i wanted to throw my phone out of the elevator, unfortunately for me, the door was stuck so that was a no go. i hesitantly opened the chat and it read 'im sorry, i didn't mean any of it, i was just drunk and out of it, please give me another chance'. now i wanted to throw myself out of the elevator and off a building. how does he have the nerve to say that when he acted like the biggest asshole last night.
i couldn't help but choke out a few sobs. seems like jungwon noticed, because the next thing i know, he was next to me offering me tissues to wipe my tears. "sorry you have to see this" i apologized as i wiped away my tears with the tissues he offered. "it's nothing, don't worry about it y/n".
i calmed down after a short while and let out a deep sigh. "if it helps you at all, i'm here to listen if you want to share" i looked at him with my tear filled eyes and smiled a little. "it's kind of embarassing.." "i'm sure it isn't" i was mentally debaitng if i should tell him, since he was you know, a stranger, but maybe him being a stranger was a good thing too? i won't really ever have to see him unless we just so happen to bump into each other at the apartment complex.
"i found out my boyfriend of 2 years has been cheating on me for months last night"
i felt a hand on my back patting in a slow but steady motion. "i'm so sorry you had to go through that, i'm sure he just lost the best person to ever exist in his life" what he said made me chuckle a little. "he just asked me if we could have another go at our relationship, but he acted so nonchalant about it last night when i confronted him too" i slowly sat down on the elevator floor, feelings starting to overwhelm me.
jungwon sat down as well but said nothing. he just sat there and comforted me, allowing me to let my feelings out.
after a little while of crying again he asked if i was feeling a bit better now. "yeah, thanks for your company, i honestly needed this."
and i don't know what was going on in my head. maybe it was all the emotions i was feeling, or the dim lights and quiet atmosphere, but as i was looking at his gorgeous brown eyes, something about the way he looked at me made me want to do something i never thought i'd do.
he stared at me as i stared back, our faces were slowly inching closer to one another. as we were centimeters apart, he stopped. "i don't think this is good for you.. it's like i'm taking advantage of you.. we should stop." he started to move away, but i held his hands and he looked back at me with those eyes again.
"i don't think this is good for neither of us too.. but if i'm gonna be honest, i want to do this.. and i may be wrong, but you want it too don't you?"
he took one last look at me before we both inched closer and connected our lips together.
this was probably an impulsive thing to do, and i would probably come to regret it once we get out of here, but right now, all i could focus on was him and how comfortable i felt around him.
i moved back and broke the contact we had, both of us now catching our breaths while still looking into each other's eyes.
"is this gonna be a one time thing y/n?"
was it? i didn't think about that. maybe i'll start regretting making out with a stranger in an elevator even before we get out of said elevator.
he looked at me with such hope and confusion, it made me want to stay in that moment forever.
"i don't know jungwon.. but i hope it isn't as well.."

Mafia AU Part 2
After the party, life went on as usual. Eddie really thought nothing of it until he and Wayne had to go back to the Marini estate a few days later. It was Eddie's second time ever being there, so he assumed he would be included in some sort of important conversation. But instead, his uncle went through a door and left him behind. Before the door was shut, he got a glimpse of the Don himself. Wayne told him to sit outside and behave himself. Which Eddie did. For about a minute.
If they were in a completely different room anyway. It's not like they're going to see where he goes or what he does. He could pull his pants down and moon the door for all they'd know about it. Eddie kept his pants on though. He stood from the chair and started to explore. Since today was supposed to be important gathering, he was dressed for it again today. Button down shirt, gray slacks and suspenders. No jacket though and Wayne had said that was fine.
He almost wished he did though. The Marinis (or was it the Harringtons?) had plenty of little trinkets around their mansion that would've been fun to smuggle out. He could probably still fit something in his pocket though. Like the tiny but beautiful crystal dolphin that was sitting amongst other things in a hallway alcove. Eddie snatched it right up and put both hands in his pocket, whistling away. Get this to the right pawn shop and he and Wayne could be sitting pretty for a while. And these rich fucks wouldn't even notice it missing.
Eddie passed by a window and saw that there was quite the garden outside. A nice stroll in nature was just what he needed. He and Wayne lived in a tiny ass apartment in the city. Not a lot of chances to see green outside the florist. Once he got out there, he put his hat back on to shade his eyes. Eddie took a deep breath, taking in the scent of the leaves, of the flowers, and of...something else. He sniffed some more as he walked, the faint smell getting stronger and then he heard voices.
Steve was here.
With someone.
Ahead of Eddie was a tall hedge, covered in roses. It looked like someone could get lost in there. And when Eddie entered, he quickly realized it was a maze. He grinned. Now this was entertainment. He wondered what they had in the middle? Probably some kind of centerpiece? Eddie was still following that scent of Steve. It was soft and sweet and he knew he was getting close. Eddie peeked around a corner and saw Steve sitting on a bench, talking to a girl, a beta. Obviously this was the center. It had a fountain, which was a little disappointing.
He didn't know what either of them were saying as they were both speaking Italian. All Eddie knew were a few curse words. The girl got up and left Steve, exiting the other way. Eddie was about to announce his presence when Tommy of all people swooped in.
"That took me forever. Guess you're just better at this maze, than me."
"Well, I've been through it a few times", Steve said.
Tommy sat down next to Steve, just a little too close for Eddie's comfort, knowing that Tommy had Steve in his sights. He had no idea how Steve felt. Maybe Tommy was the alpha of his dreams. But he was doubtful, seeing as the omega turned his head away.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?", Eddie announced himself, walking over.
Tommy clearly didn't want him here. He was straight up glaring at Eddie while putting an arm across the bench, like he was already claiming Steve. Steve didn't seem mad at being interrupted. If anything, he looked intrigued.
"What are you doing here, Munson?"
"I can't stop and smell the roses?", Eddie asked, leaning over to sniff at one of the blossoms that were nose height on the hedge.
"It's rude to walk around someone else's place. And imagine if I weren't here", Tommy looked to Steve as he said this. "It's not proper for an omega to be alone with an alpha, both of them unmated."
Steve opened his mouth but Eddie beat him to it. "And what're you? Chopped liver?"
"The boss trusts me. Comes with the territory of being a family friend."
"You must get sooo many perks."
"Tommy, you mind going to check on lunch for me?", Steve asked.
Tommy's head swiveled. "What? Am I your errand boy now?"
Steve leveled him a look that said 'you always have been'. "My father trusts you so much, after all."
"...But...I can't...", his eyes glanced to Eddie.
"I'm not getting less hungry the longer you sit here." Steve put his chin in his hand. "I wonder if there's anyone else here who's better at listening and following orders?"
Tommy got up, straightened his jacket, and walked off, purposely bumping shoulders with Eddie on the way out. Eddie felt the slightest urge to knock heads with him for that, but he was more curious about why Steve would get them alone like this. Tommy was right, being alone with an alpha like him wouldn't be good for Steve's reputation. Especially a lowborn one like Eddie, who technically wasn't even part of the family.
"What kind of lunch do they serve in this joint? I bet you guys get veal here", Eddie said, just trying to fill the silence as Steve inspected him from the bench.
"Your uncle is in a meeting right now. Do you know why?"
Eddie shrugged. "They kept me outside, so I haven't the slightest." Then he grinned. "Maybe they're discussing your dowry to the Hagans."
"Not funny", Steve said, even though he was smiling. "You're still standing."
"Munsons get beat down but we always get back up."
"No, I mean, there's room for you to sit. Why aren't you sitting?"
"And take Hagan's spot? Isn't this the job where you try NOT to make enemies?"
"Are you afraid of Tommy?", Steve asked, eyebrow raised.
Eddie scoffed. "Of him? I called the guy chopped liver but at least that tastes good on bread. I wouldn't spread Tommy on the stalest of crackers."
"I'm going to assume that's an insult because I've never had chopped liver."
Eddie tapped his chin and then snapped his fingers. "It's the poor man's foie gras."
"Ah, so meat mush", Steve nodded in understanding.
"Delicious meat mush. If that fancy pate isn't your thing, you gotta try the deli I got to. Ms. Byers is a small woman but she can butcher the hell out of anything and make it good."
"Maybe she should join the family." Steve smiled at Eddie and then patted the empty space next to him.
Eddie eyed it, feeling tempted, yet not entirely trusting himself. He didn't know Steve that well, but he knew the kinds of games that omegas like to play sometimes. Especially the bored, rich ones. Eddie had never met a bored and rich omega before Steve but he'd heard stories. They got their kicks with alphas, playing around with them until they got caught. And it was always the alpha who paid the price for deflowering an omega that didn't belong to them, ruining them for marriage. Eddie thought maybe they could be afforded more progressive thinking in the year 1986, but for some folks their memory and values didn't go past 1945. Well really, some of them 1870.
In fact, it already felt like playing with fire being alone with Steve for this long. It didn't matter that they were outside, anyone could use this against them.
"I think I should be getting back to my uncle. He still thinks I'm a kid and if I'm not where he left me, he'll put on a search party."
"Sounds like he cares."
"Oh no, he just wants to curb any potential property damage. He lost me at the fair once and by the time he found me, I had already set fire to a kiddy coaster."
Steve laughed, a real laugh, and it was like a bell. He stood up and Eddie noticed that they were practically wearing the same outfit, right down to the suspenders. The only difference, which Eddie could see as he got closer, was the quality. Everything looked perfectly tailored to him. Steve grabbed his jacket off the bench and slid it back on.
"Well then, you'd best get back to your uncle. I wouldn't want you to set off any fires."
"And you? How does a mobster spend a lovely afternoon like this?"
"Steve?! Hey Steve! Where are you!?", Tommy's voice rang somewhere in the distance.
"Helping his friend find his way out of a maze that he's been doing since he was ten", Steve sighed.
Eddie shrugged. "Eh, so mazes aren't his forte. Everyone's got their strengths."
"And what would you say are yours?", Steve asked, tilting his head.
Eddie heard footsteps approaching and decided to be just the smallest bit bold. He took a few steps closer to Steve, so that they were almost toe to toe. He wondered if it spoke to Steve's confidence in holding his own in a fight or if he just knew he could have Eddie killed no problem that he didn't flinch or take a step back.
"I'm good with my hands", Eddie said, patting Steve on the chest just as someone shouted "Hey!"
Eddie took a step back and there was that girl from before. She looked ready to beat Eddie with a stick but also scared if she'd have to do it. Eddie kept her from having to make the choice and stepped away from Steve, hands up and clear.
"I'll be taking my leave now, Mr. Harrington", he said with a slight bow.
"I'll be seeing you, Mr. Munson."
Eddie turned and left, finding his way out of the maze with ease but not before running into Tommy and pointing him in the direction of a dead end. He'd figure it out eventually. And if not, well the Marini staff had to be pretty good at disposing of bodies.
Back in the center, Steve was still staring at the spot Eddie had vacated.
"Hello? Earth to Steve? That was Eddie Munson? Seemed pretty handsy."
Steve patted the pocket on his jacket and took something out. One of the crystal figurines that were around the house. This one, a dolphin. Steve's lips curled up in a smile. "Yeah. That was Munson. Come on, Robin. I need to talk with my father."
------------------
Eddie and Wayne didn't talk the whole way home, except for Eddie asking if they could stop by the deli first. Talking with Steve had gotten him hungry for it. And Wayne looked like he had something on his mind. Almost as soon as they got home, the phone rang and Wayne got on, talking for at least a half an hour. It seemed important, so Eddie stayed put in the apartment, giving him privacy but keeping himself available.
Wayne hung up with a sigh and rubbed his face. Eddie was in the middle of ironing clothes for both of them.
"What's up?", he asked.
"You're being sponsored", Wayne said.
"....What?"
"Sponsored. You. To be in the family."
Eddie nearly dropped the iron in his shock. He cursed and turned to unplug it and get away from the hot metal. "I'm being sponsored? When?! By who?!"
"Now don't get all excited. Initiation is going to be some of the hardest work you'll ever do. And even then, it's not a guarantee you'll get in."
"But this is good, right?! If I get in, we'll both be part of the family! We can get out of this crummy apartment and afford more than one suit and-and pay off our debts and our lives won't suck! We can break the Munson curse!"
"Ain't no curse, how many times I gotta tell you that?"
Eddie frowned at him. "Is that why my mom's life was all daisies and butter when she met my dad?"
"'Daisies and butter'?"
"People say that."
"Who? The ladies down at the bingo parlor?"
"You're doing that thing. You're making jokes", Eddie pointed out.
"Well who do you think you get it from?"
"Wayne...I want to do this. I can do this. And if we're both bringing in the big bucks, we can make our lives better. Even without the curse, that's a fact."
Wayne sighed and sat down on the couch heavily. Even he was thinking a new one would be nice. But at the cost of his nephew? He looked up at him, eyes sad.
"I never wanted this life for you."
Eddie sat down next to him. "A little late for that. So who's my sponsor? Is it Swirly?"
"Well that's the strangest thing. For whatever reason, the boss' son himself said he wanted to sponsor you."
"Steve?", Eddie squeaked.
"Oh he's 'Steve' now, is he?"
"He's always been-okay don't give me that look I haven't-we haven't... I talked to him once, well, technically twice, but you were there the first time! And nothing happened the second time. I have witnesses! Uh, they only saw part of it, but I-you-you're messing with me, aren't you?"
"About Steve Harrington being your sponsor? No. But I'm enjoying watching my nephew get in a tizzy over a handsome omega. Just make sure you don't ever forget who he is", Wayne reminded him.
"Oh trust me, I won't. He looks like everything touches turns to gold. Too rich for my blood."
"It's not even really about him. It's about his father. And what he could do to us if he thinks we've stepped out of line. And I know how you like to toe the line."
"With the trained expertise of a ballerina~"
"You get that from your father. And he tripped up and landed himself behind bars. He got off lucky. Cross the Marinis and they won't be so generous", Wayne warned.
"Got it, putting the pointe shoes away." Eddie knew this was no small gesture. Being sponsored meant everything. Something he said or did must've resonated with Steve. Or maybe this was still a bored, rich omega game. Either way, he wasn't going to waste this chance.

AU scenario: xue yang survives getting disarmed (hah) by lan wangji after the yi city arc! what happens next 👀
i have actually written two versions of this one! one in novelverse where Su She manages to sweep Xue Yang away (my god, I keep mentioning this one lately, but nurture the tiger) and one in cqlverse where Song Lan makes the deliberately contrary choice to leave Xue Yang alive (Walking Far From Home)
this is a rough one though!! because I want things to end better for Xue Yang but they don't look great for him at this point in time unless somehow you bring Xiao Xingchen back to life. though okay let's see what I've got here. going with novelverse for this one and at least starting with the nurture the tiger premise
so Su She manages to bring a half-dead Xue Yang away from Yi City, half-dead and an absolute wreck having lost his last ditch hope of getting Xiao Xingchen back. somehow (Xue Yang's nearly inhuman endurance) he manages to stick him back together
(since Jin Guangyao is busy, probably this is just a Su She effort; they need all the allies they can get with the way things are going, he thinks, even if this particular ally is not going to be very useful, but still. maybe Su She's a little attached, though I don't think he'd be very inclined to admit it. Xue Yang grows on you. like a fungus.)
howmever, he's got other things to do, so he does have to leave Xue Yang on his own once he's (more or less, barely) stable. and then everything goes to shit, leaving Xue Yang entirely on his own because everyone else is dead.
this becomes clear to Xue Yang (that nobody's coming back for him, anyway, though he may or may not realize that's because they're dead and just assume he's been given up for lost and not worth killing personally. dick) and he reaches out to the only option he has left, which is to say his fierce corpse masterpiece (with whom he still has at least a distant connection, as his former master, even without the nails he can at least try to summon him), figuring that at least he can die with...if not grace then a little faster than of infection, and hey, Song Lan was kind of sort of his fierce corpse best friend for a while there
anyway, Song Lan (who has nothing better to do except be miserable right now) shows up, decides to leave Xue Yang alive because he's too pathetic to kill at this point and also because Song Lan doesn't have any other (living) friends and is incredibly lonely and at least here's the only other person who understands the grief he's feeling, even if that's the last thing that Song Lan wants to admit
eventually once Xue Yang is better (ish) they leave and go off journeying together in the weirdest most miserable duo road trip ever. Song Lan is continually like "good night, I may kill you tomorrow" to which Xue Yang is like "okay, that's chill" but it gets almost comfortable
shared grief bonding!!! Song Lan is just waiting for Xiao Xingchen to heal while trying to maintain the work that they (would have done) were doing together before everything fell apart. Xue Yang is like "saving people is boring but not like I have anything better to do at this point ¯\_(ツ)_/¯"
I have no idea where this goes. but I like the idea of it just kind of continuing until eventually Xue Yang does die and it's bittersweet in the end and it's kind of like. everyone's dead now. including Song Lan. he's just ambulatory about it.
anyway this whole thing would be really fucking angsty and all about grief and mourning and I'd probably cry writing 90% of it

Okay, I love how you write Yumichika and Ikkaku, they're so like, comfortable and, not quite co-dependent, but something like that but healthier ?? I love them. BECAUSE of this, it makes me think violently about the Yumichikia Zanpaukto Reveal, the one where he's like Oh God I've Got A Kido Zanpakuto, I'm Going to Be Hated, because i love that fic trope ?? idea ??? so so much, and I've seen many from it, but I ! want to know how you think it would go ? because based on the relationship that they have, it's like ! It wouldn't break them apart obvi, but they trust each other a Lot, and, tbh, i don't think it's gonna be the zanpakuto being kido that's the problem but that Yumichika thought he couldn't trust Ikkaku with it, when Ikkaku trusts him with something of equivalent nature (his bankai's existence) ?
i dunno i just like my guys and want more thoughts of them and like your world building so. sits in your inbox quietly aslkdjfaskdfj
So, uh, the thing is, I think Ikkaku knows.
Long-ass explanation with many pictures under the cut
Let's start out by looking at the two scenes where Yumichika beats people up with his shikai and then swears them to secrecy.
First, Hisagi:
Tumblr media
And secondly, Charlotte:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are a couple of things to note here:
He pointedly uses "we" to refer to Eleventh Company.
He doesn't say it's wrong to have a kidou-based zanpakutou, he says it's wrong to use it.
The speech is almost the word-for-word the same, both times. Almost like it's practiced.
He doesn't seem scared or nervous or desperate. He's cheeky. "Ha ha," he says, "I beat you using this sad, weak, little kidou move that I'm ashamed of. Gross, right?"
As an addition to 4, consider that this isn't even the only misdirection Yumichika uses. Let's back up a little in the Hisagi fight:
Tumblr media
He also pulls this schtick where he's publicly the Fifth Seat, except there is no Fourth Seat.
[An aside: it's interesting that he tells Hisagi that another of the principles of the Eleventh is that it's better to go down swinging than to surrender. So, assuming that his zanpakutou is permitted, as long as he uses it as a pointy thing and not as a reishi-sucker, that puts him in a Catch-22-- when the chips are down, does he go down, even though he has a secret trump card, or does he use his shameful kidou attack? The evidence suggests that he values fighting to the bitter end, even at the risk of exposing himself.
This is particularly interesting because Ikkaku himself is in the same situation with regards to his bankai, and as we see in the fight for the pillars, he makes the opposite decision. ]
So what gives?
The fact is, Yumichika doesn't belong in the Eleventh. I just made the point that he's a fake Fourth Seat, in a scene where he takes down a vice-captain, even with a terrible relationship with zanpakutou (and he probably doesn't get as much practice with them as he should, either). Not only does he have to worry about Zaraki kicking him out if his powers were publicly known, but Yamamoto would probably jerk him out of Squad 11 and make him go to a captain who would make him work to his full potential.
But he wants to be in Squad 11. He wants to be with Ikkaku. So not only does he follow the rules, he vocally enforces them.
There is a lot about Yumichika as a character that is a metaphor for homosexuality (and often not in a very nice way), and he's very much in a don't-ask-don't-tell situation here. It's not just in an official, he'll-get-kicked-out-of-Squad 11 sense, but I think that he doesn't talk about his kidou zanpakutou and Ikkaku pretends not to see it, and they live in harmony. The reason he swears people to secrecy is not because he doesn't want Ikkaku to know, it's because if someone confronted Ikkaku or Zaraki about it, they would be forced to take action about it or have some sort of response to it.
I don't actually have any evidence that Ikkaku knows, this is just how I feel in my heart. I am not going to tell anyone how to enjoy a romance, but to me, the essence of a shinigami partnership is knowing each other. I like this in all kinds of romances, tbh, but Bleach has all these additional metaphors-made-spirit flesh, in terms of fighting with an expression of your soul. If I could accept the idea that Ikkaku somehow doesn't know that Yumichika has hidden talents, even if he doesn't know the scope of them, their love story falls apart for me.
There are certain kinds of lying in relationships that is truly unforgivable: questions of fidelity, financial stuff, etc. But there is also a different kind of lying that both parties are aware of and allow the fiction to persist, because it's important to one of them, or it keeps the relationship together or it's just nice. As a counterexample, you will occasionally see a particular flavor of Gross Dude on r/RedPill who finds out what his girlfriend looks like out of her make-up and is absolutely incensed about it. Yumichika's secret is a little more intense than make-up, but the idea is that he wants to present himself as a Squad Eleven Guy with a Melee Zanpakutou and Ikkaku says "Sure, pal, of course" even though it's obviously untrue. Like, super obviously untrue.
Now, does Zaraki know? That's a different story. I am personally of the opinion that Zaraki prefers to take the things people tell him at face value, and also that he's dumb as a bag of rocks, so I think it's highly possible that Yumichika actually is pulling one over on him, especially because Ikkaku says Yumichika has a melee-zanpakutou, and who would know better than Ikkaku? For people who prefer a smarter Zaraki, I can still see him figuring that as long as Yumichika plays by the rules and can hang with the crew, who cares, right?
The other problem with Yumichika's zanpakutou, though, is that it's strong. It's real strong. If you're comparing the rank-and-file, yeah, an unseated officer from the Eleventh is better than an unseated officer of nearly any other squad. On the other hand, every other super-strong character in Bleach uses kidou or has some kidou-related zanpakutou technique. @troius pointed out that kidou proved to be incredibly effective against Arrancar during the Winter War, particularly for the mid-strength, Vice-Captain level characters. Renji is famously bad at kidou (altho this is exaggerated in the anime), and yet has saved his own ass with it on multiple occasions. Iba, an alumni of Squad 11, lectures Ikkaku that he should be more well-rounded. The problem is that Zaraki, who made up the dumb Squad 11 rules, may be the strongest guy in Soul Society, but he's also a tremendous outlier. It's all well and good if he wants to wear a reiatsu-sucking eyepatch, but the fact is, the Squad 11 rules make them weaker.
I think it's a pretty common headcanon that when they met, Ikkaku was significantly stronger than Yumichika. I'm...not sure that's still true. That, to me, is the the meatier conflict of Yumichika keeping his powers secret. Ikkaku's strength is so, so important to him. Would Ikkaku still love him if Yumichika were the stronger one? Further, if Yumichika flaunted his powers, would it break the entire illusion of The Squad 11 Way?
So, you asked how I think it would go, and the answer is that a) I think it happened during the 17-mo timeskip and b) it was more of wider ranging conversation about facing certain truths and living more authentically to themselves, and c) we have to do this, for the pride of Squad 11, all of the other vice captains are nerds and if we don't up our game they are going to surpass us and that is unacceptable.
Bleach is not a romance manga, so we didn't get to see any of this on-panel, but I think there is strong evidence that they got it figured out.

I'm not sure if you've fully explained it before, but what was the relationship between the White Lady and PK like, and how did it fall apart?
i mentioned it here and there, though not in full i think. their relationship and backstory is something i've thought about for a while, but i think i have a somewhat complete picture now
i guess it's best if i start from the beginning to give their relationship some context. i mentioned before that fpk was born a weak runt, and as a result, he was very dependent on his mother to protect him from his much stronger and more aggressive siblings. she was his whole world, and when the time came for her to abandon the nest and let her offspring fend for themselves (a natural course of things for wyrms), he was devastated. in his mind, his weakness was the reason why she left, and he believed that if he did better, then maybe she wouldn't have a reason to abandon him
he lived for many years with that thought clouding his mind, and when it was his time to abandon his old form and begin anew as a king, the white lady was the first being he saw. until that point, he hasn't experienced any other kind of relationship, so when she showed him kindness and compassion, he basically imprinted on her and formed close attachment to her. now, he was mature enough to realize that she was not his mother, so he didn't see her as a mother figure, but that didn't stop him from projecting his fear of being abandoned onto her
from her point of view, they quickly fell in love, and she loved him in every meaning of the word. for him, it was quite complicated. he never experienced romantic or intimate love before, so he had no way of figuring out which way he swings. naturally, he assumed his relationship with the white lady was love. he felt safe around her and wanted to make her happy, in his mind that was love. what he did not realize was that he was not actually attracted to her, and because he had no other point of reference, he sort of went along with it, not realizing that he was unintentionally leading her on
unfortunately, their relationship wasn't as perfect as it seemed on the outside. his fear of abandonment manifested into intense anxiety, and her intimidating aura made it even worse. unlike him, she did have a royal background, and so she had her own habits and views on how one should present themselves. unfortunately for fpk, those standards went completely against his nature. he was expected to make speeches, attend royal events and behave with manners, all the while his instincts told him to hide away in a dark burrow and stay in solitude. she was quite critical of any missteps, not in a malicious way, i imagine it was a form of perfectionism that she subconsciously projected onto others. and that perfectionism was what stressed fpk out, since he became obsessed with making sure that he does everything perfectly as to not upset her. he believed that if he disappointed her, she would abandon him, just as his mother once did. so he did everything she expected of him, both in royal duties, and between them, even if sometimes he had to sacrifice his own happiness to make it happen
the white lady failed to notice his anxiety. being a plant-based higher being, her emotional complexity fell far behind his, she often appeared quite cold and distant, and her empathy at times seemed to be lacking. that, and he wouldn't tell her how he felt, instead he continued to pretend everything was fine. the theme of lying to himself and poor communication is quite strong with fpk, and i really wanted it to be part of the reason why their relationship didn't work out in the end. so she's not solely to blame, she had no reason to suspect that anything was wrong, and her nature did not allow her to notice it. it was very much an issue with both of them, and one they failed to communicate
another reason was their reaction to the vessel plan. the white lady, while burdened by the guilt connected to her involvement in the matter, is also quite emotionally distant, and so was quick to suggest that they should simply move on. fpk, on the contrary, is very emotional in nature, and so the deaths of the vessels devastated him. no matter how much he lied to himself that they did not feel pain, the voice in the back of his head kept telling him that he's a murderer and a monster, so even the mere suggestion of moving on was something he simply couldn't comprehend. their disagreement slowly turned into arguments, fpk's stress over the vessels and the infection overshadowed his fear of abandonment, and he started voicing his issues more frequently, both about the recent events and her expectations of him. it was clear that all of this put a big strain on their relationship, and in hopes of salvaging as much of it as they could, they decided it was best to separate while they were still on good terms. the fact that he had as much say in this separation as she did helped with his abandonment anxiety, though it still impacted him greatly, especially with all the stress he already had to deal with. this happened soon before the pure vessel was sealed away, so she was not present at the palace at that time
around this time, fpk also started having doubts about the nature of his love for her. he clearly still cared about her, but his relationship with grimm made him question a lot of things. now, he did not bring it up until after they reunited post-hibernation, but it was something that was still on his mind throughout that time. he didn't have the realization that he was, in fact, in love with grimm just yet, but he was getting there. now, would the white lady be upset to hear it back then? i don't think so, actually. she loved him, and as much as she unintentionally hurt him with her expectations, she wanted what was the best for him. and if she learned that he felt happier with someone else, i think she would accept it, especially after learning that he was so anxious around her. she would certainly feel hurt that her feelings were not actually mutual, but she would move on
and she did, at the current time in the au, she has already accepted fpk's new relationship, even though she's not personally fond of grimm. her and fpk are on good terms despite everything that happened, and he often visits her to stay in touch. their marriage wasn't meant to be, it was inevitable that they would break up. but the fact that they chose to separate before it got nasty was what helped them stay as friends after all those years
----
it's a bit long, but i think i got over everything that i had in mind. it's probably a quite unpopular direction to take them in, i usually see them portrayed as a happy couple in the fandom, and i think that's great! i really like all the wholesome content with them, and i think they look adorable together. but with my interpretation of each of them, i think it just wouldn't work out. fpk is an emotional mess, while wl is the complete opposite, it's a recipe for a disaster. plus i really wanted to emphasize just how broken fpk has been since the beginning, and how good he was at hiding it (well, for a while at least). he may want what's the best for others, but more often than not he just ends up lying to them and to himself, and it always comes back to bite him in the ass. he's pathetic, he's traumatized, he desperately needs therapy, and that's why i love him

Hello my name is Ace and i'm back on my lab rats bullshit so i'm rewatching the entire show
i've been trying to sort out all of the characters ages in my head since the dawn of time so im using this rewatch as an opportunity to keep record of all the times the characters mention their ages or time as a whole
also i would like to make it known that i have no idea how American schools work
also also I know that this is a kids show and I knew that the timeline had issues way before I started this but it was a fun thing to keep track of as I watched and now I have this information and I have no idea what to do with it so enjoy i guess
Lab Rats
Season 1, Episode 1: Crush, Chop and Burn Part 1
- All of the siblings attend High School meaning that they are from the ages of 13 - 18
- All of the siblings attend the same gym class
Season 1, Episode 8: Bionic Birthday Fail
- It's Leos 14th birthday
- Donald says that he's 38
this particular episode first aired on May the 7th so this could be Leo's date of birth but it's never said what the day is in the episode
also side note but it is cannon that Davenport did not celebrate Adam Bree and Chases birthdays up until this point. Also they don't know who Santa is but do celebrate Christmas with presents and decorations the same as seen in episode 3
Season 1, Episode 14: Chore Wars
- Chase says that 2009 was 3 years ago making the year this episode takes place 2012
Season 1, Episode 15: Dude, Wheres My Lab
- It's summer vacation meaning that it takes place during the months of May, June, July or August
Season 1, Episode 16: Air Leo
- Leo says that he's 14
- The episode takes place in the school meaning that if it was summer vacation in the last episode then it's a new school year in this one. American school years start in either late August or early September
Season 1, Episode 17: Night of the Living Virus
this isn't really anything but it was very obvious to me that this episode was shot before the others. Not only does Chase have his old haircut that he had for the first few episode but the sofa has the old throw pillows that they changed at the end of the second episode. Idk what this means for the timeline of when this episode took place (i believe it's a halloween episode as it aired in October) so idk if this episode is supposed to take place before the other episodes or if the producers just didn't care enough to care about the changes
- Caitlin is at least 16 years old in this episode as they mention her sweet 16
Season 1, Episode 20: Mission Space
- Leo says that Marcus is a Sagittarius
- Bree says that she's also a Sagittarius
Sagittarius have their birthdays between November 22nd and December 21st
Season 2, Episode 1: Speed Trapped
- Leo says he's 14
Season 2, Episode 2: Spy Fly
- Leo says that Davenport is almost 40
- It appears that Adam and Chase are in the same health class since they have the same assighment
- Bree and Leo are both doing the same physics test in the same class
Season 2, Episode 9: Spikes Got Talent
- At the beginning of the episode the siblings talk about the yearbook and about how everyone got a most likely to apart from Chase. This indicates that the yearbooks have just been handed out. When yearbooks come out depends on the school but it's mostly near the end of the school year
Season 2, Episode 12: Trucked Out
- Adam gets his drivers license meaning that he is at least 16 years old
Considering he passed on his first test and Bree, Chase and Leo don't have their licenses we can safely assume that Bree, Chase and Leo are all under the age of 16 in this episode
Season 2, Episode 15: Bionic Showdown Part 2
- Marcus is under the age of 16
Season 2, Episode 16: Memory Wipe
- The siblings erase 24 years of Donalds memory making him think that he's 15. Meaning that in this episode he would've been 39
Season 2, Episode 19: Llama Drama
- It's leading up to the homecoming game. Homecoming usually takes place in late September or early October meaning that it is probably a new school year
Season 2, Episode 20: The Haunting of Mission Creek High
- It's the homecoming dance meaning that it's still late September/early October
Season 2, Episode 21: Perry 2.0
- Adam and Bree seem to have gym class together but they're literally in gym for the entire episode apart from a small scene where they're at lunch so that might've been some special type of sport day or something like that
Season 2, Episode 23: Prank You Very Much
- It's been 150 days since Janelle and Leo first spoke to each other. Janelles first appearance in the show was Season 1 Episode 10: Can I Borrow the Helicopter? meaning that it (should) have been no more then 150 days since that episode. Though this doesn't make much sense since some of the most recent episodes revolves around homecoming which starts at the beginning of the school year and we already had a summer vacation episode last season and there is no way that everyone from "Dude Where's My Lab?" and "Llama Drama" happened within a month
Season 2, Episode 24: 'Twas the Mission Before Christmas
- It's Christmas Eve
- Tasha says that it's their first Christmas together but again like i just said this makes no sense since at least one christmas should've passed
- Bree says that Davenport Industry's have been risking the fate of mankind since 1992. If she hasn't made this year up then that means that if Donald is 39 in this episode and this episode takes place in 2012 like they're suggesting (even tho the episode came out in 2013. If this is their first christmas together it should be 2012) then Davenport Industry's started 20 years ago when Donald was 19
- Chase says that he is 15
Season 2, Episode 25: Trent Gets Schooled
- Part of this episode revolves around taking pictures for the Yearbook. Since Bree mentions her photo from the previous year and yearbook photos were mentioned in Spikes Got Talent this means that the siblings have DEFINITELY been going to school for longer then a year
- Leo and Trent both say that it's not football season. Football season is usually late August/early September to mid/late October meaning that it is not during this time in the episode
- Trent does a test in this episode and after passing he graduates immediately and then becomes the coach. Idk if it's possible for Trent to just immediately graduate at a random point in the school year or if this had to have taken place during the end of the school year
Season 3, Episode 5: Zip It
- Bree, Chase and Caitlin all get a part time job in this episode. In California you have to be at least 14 to work so this doesn't tell us anything about how old they are considering we know that Chase is at least 15 but I'm keeping it in anyway
Season 3, Episode 7: Scramble the Orbs
- Leo, Adam and Janelle have a gym class together
Season 3, Episode 9: Taken
- Douglas is at least 40 years old as he shows Leo a video from his 40th birthday party. This means that Donald has to be over the age of 40
Season 3, Episode 10: Three Minus Bree
- Eddy says that Leo is 16 years old
Season 3, Episode 12: Cyborg Shark Attack
- It's summer as said by Perry and indicated in what the characters are wearing but the school is still open meaning it might be around May - June
Season 3, Episode 13: You Posted What!?! Part 1
- Donald says that he's had Adam Bree and Chase for 16 years meaning that they are all at least 16 years old
Season 3, Episode 14: You Posted What!?! Part 2
- Donald says that he's 43
Season 3, Episode 15: Armed and Dangerous
- Donald says that he and the trio have had 16 years of training
Season 3, Episode 17: Brother Battle
- Bree mentions working a 12 hour shift at Tech Town. According to Google people under the age of 18 can be asked to work for longer then 8 hours a day in exceptional circumstances. They can ask only if no one who's over the age of 18 is available to do the work
Season 3, Episode 20: Merry Glichmas
- It's Christmas
- Leo says he's 16
- In the last Christmas episode Chase says that he's 15 meaning that for this Christmas Chase has to be at least 16. Since Leo says that he's 16 and it's could either be that Chase is only a few months older then Leo or that this episode takes place two years after the last Christmas episode and Chase is 17
Season 3, Episode 22: The Rise Of The Secret Soldiers Part 2
- It's given off that Krane began raising the secret soldiers since they were babies behind Douglas back as Douglas says that he had a tone of baby pictures meaning that Douglas and Krane must've been working together for at least 16 years
Season 3, Episode 23: Bionic House Party
- Bree mentions that some of the soldiers used her prom dress for target practice giving the impression that Bree has either already attended prom or was planning to soon. Since Bree is never seen with a stable boyfriend throughout the show it's likely that this was for her own prom. Students who attend prom are the senior class who are aged 17/18 years old. (i just wrote this and played the episodes only for Chase to say that the odds of her using it were very slim. Idk why Bree would have a prom dress if she never intends to go to prom but this could likely mean that she's a senior at the moment and already brought her dress before asking anyone to be her date) (idk use your imagination)
- Leo says that Donald is way older then he claims to be, giving the impression that throughout the show Leo has thought that Donald was younger then he really is because Donald keeps lying about his age. So far Donald has mentioned himself being 43. This would make somewhat sense if it wasn't for the memory wipe episode
- Bree says that Leo found them five friends in three years indicating that the first episode took place 3 years ago and if that episode took place in 2012 then it is currently 2015
Season 3, Episode 24: First Day Of Bionic Academy
- Bree says that she's still waiting on her sweet sixteen party meaning that Bree is at least 16 years old
- Leo has had his bionics for six months meaning it's been six months since the episode You Posted What!?! took place
- Bree mentions how she got stood up by a boy on prom night. this might be calling back to her unused prom dress
Season 4, Episode 4: Under Siege
- Leo refers to the time where Bree and Chase were looking after Kerry (Perrys niece) in the season 2 episode 18: Adam Up as "last year".
- Adam says that Leo is 16 years old
Season 4, Episode 6: Mission Mania
- Leo says he's been going on missions for over a month. His first mission would've been sometime after Rise of the Secret Soldiers
Season 4, Episode 8: Forbidden Hero
- Bree says that she has matured since high school giving off the impression that she did graduate. But it's noteworthy that none of the siblings go to school anymore and with Leo's last confirmed age being 16 he and maybe Chase should at least still be going. I can understand Chase no longer attending because there isn't much for school to teach him and he could've easily graduated early but it's odd for Leo to have just stopped especially since Tasha seems like the kind of mother to put Leos education over his bionic life. Also the last episode where we see the siblings attending school was Season 3, Episode 19: Face Off. In this episode all of the siblings were attending school. The show has never been accurate or cared about the characters ages when it comes to school and what classes they're attending so idk why i keep expecting them to subtly have Adam no longer be a student anymore or something but it was worth a try. Either way i think it's fair to say that school is giving us nothing in terms of finding out how old these characters are supposed to be.
- Also since i'm pretty sure that this is Caitlins last appearance in the show i'll mention now that she should be at least 19 years old since the Season One episode: Night Of The Living Virus mentions her sweet sixteen and with season one taking place in 2012 and this episode taking place in 2015 at the earliest, Caitlin should be at least 19. Although with that being said she was seen in Season 3 Episode 16: Alien Gladiators in school which she should've graduated by then. Again, the school setting seems to be ruining everything for me right now
Season 4, Episode 12: Space Elevator
- Chase says that their bionic secret has been out for a year meaning that it has been at least a year since Season 3 Episode 13/14: You Posted What!?! and it's been at least six months since the Bionic Academy opened
- Chase says that he went to High School for a year an a half meaning that everything that happened between the Season One, Episode One and Season Three Episode Nineteen happened within a year and a half (seems unlikely but okay)
Season 4, Episode 13: Bionic Action Hero Part 1
- Despite the fact that Leo moved up two colours in the last episode he's back to wearing the yellow shirt in this one meaning that this episode could've taken place before the last one but chances are the writers just don't care
Season 4, Episode 15: One Of Us
- We don't see Leo in his uniform in this episode but looking at the extras nobody is wearing the yellow shirt. In Season 2, Episode 12: Space Elevator all of the students moved up a colour and Leo two colours meaning that this episode takes place after the Space Elevator one definitely
- Bree says that she has 30 more years of being really cute. idk what this could tell us about her age currently but i'm taking what i can get
Season 4, Episode 18: The Curse of the Screaming Skull
- It's their first halloween at the Academy
Season 4, Episode 19: On The Edge Part 1
- Leo says that Chase named himself mission leader when he was 14 and Chase corrects him and says that he was 12. This could indicate that the trios first mission was when Chase was 14 and that's why Leo thought he named himself leader then
Season 4, Episode 20: On The Edge Part 2
- It's been two weeks since the last episode
Season 4, Episode 22: And Then There Were Four
- In the episode On The Edge, Leo becomes a mentor but for this episode he is back in his students uniform for whatever reason meaning that this episode could've taken place before On The Edge
- Douglas says that Daniel was just a baby the day that Donald took Adam Bree and Chase from him meaning that when Donald took the kids Daniel already existed
- Daniel is thirteen in this episode WHICH MAKES NO FUCKING SENSE. Donald said in You Posted What!?! that he had Adam Bree and Chase for 16 years. this episode takes place at least a year after that one meaning that it should've been no less then 17 years since Donald took Adam Bree and Chase in. If Daniel already existed when Donald did this (which he did) then he should be at least 17 years old
- Bree refers to her, Adam and Chase as teenagers so they all had to have been under the age of 19 and since it was said before that Donald must've had the trio for 17 years at this point their ages should be Adam: 19 Bree: 18 and Chase: 17
- It's said that the siblings threw Chase a 16th birthday party without inviting Chase (ouch) meaning that Chase is at least 16 years old
Season 4, Episode 23: Space Colony Part 1
- Perry says that she snuck up to space with the rest of the colonists when they were sent up. The colonists have been in space for almost a month and Perrys most recent appearance was in Season 4, Episode 21: Ultimate Tailgate Challenge, meaning that it has been at least a month since that episode took place
Season 4, Episode 25: The Vanishing Part 1
- Leo is back in his mentor outfit
- Bree says that she's a teenager and doesn't even have her drivers licence yet but there's no way i'm believing that she's under the age of 16 so i'm just gonna guess that she didn't have a chance to take any tests yet
Lab Rats Elite Force
Season 1, Episode 1: The Rise Of Five
- Donald says that he used to play in the subway 40 years ago. imma say that this means that he's at least 45 years old
Season 1, Episode 3: Power Play
- Bree says that there's three teenage boys living in the penthouse meaning that Chase, Kaz and Olivier are all still teenagers
Season 1, Episode 8: Coming Through in the Clutch
- The episode is focused on an Olympic send off event where fans can go and meet Olympians before they go to the Olympic games in Rio. They mention the Olympics being the ones held in Rio multiple times throughout the episode. The Rio Olympics were held in 2016 meaning that this episode takes place sometime in the summer of 2016 making this 4 years after the first episode of Lab Rats
- Bob says that he's 14 now meaning that he wasn't during season 4 of Lab Rats
Season 1, Episode 9: The Intruder
- Aj is 10 years old
- Chase says that his birthday is August 5th
Season 1, Episode 13: Sheep-Shifting
- It's Halloween and is implied to be the Elite Forces first Halloween together
- Bree says that she's 17 (idk how)
Season 1, Episode 15: They Grow Up So Fast
- Tasha visits in this episode with Naomi. During the Season 4 finale Tasha tells the family that she's pregnant and that it's a girl. The earliest you have to be to find out the sex of your baby is around 14 weeks but Doctors generally recommend waiting until 19-20 weeks (around 4 months.) Tasha does not seem to be showing at all during the season 4 finale (probably because the actress Angel wasn't pregnant and they didn't see the need to have her wear some kind of fake bump or anything since she wasn't so far in) and you start showing around 16-20 weeks leading me to believe that she was around 14-16 weeks pregnant at the time which is around 3 months meaning that Tasha had around 6 months until Naomi was born. Tasha says that she "hasn't had a moment to herself in 11 months meaning that Naomi is 11 months old in this episode. meaning that it's been around 17 months (a year and 5 months) since Lab Rats ended
- Namoi being 11 months old means that it must've been at least that long since the Elite Force was brought together as during Season 1, Episode 5: Need For Speed Douglas says that Donald isn't with the Elite Force because he wanted to be with Tasha when the baby arrived and during Season 1, Episode 7: The List Donald send the Elite Force a box of their old things as he was turning the lab into a nursery for the new baby. Although they never say if Naomi had been born yet.
Notes
I originally had the idea of making some form of a timeline of events to try to get something out of all of this but I literally did not have enough brain cells to do so. If you want to feel free though
I don't know why I did this. For some reason I just find this fun but I'm sure that we can all agree that this timeline is fucked and makes no sense whatsoever.
Anyways... i hope you got something out of reading all of this if you did *thumbs up emoji*

I talked about it last year, but it's Christmas Eve and I'm going to talk about it again!
We know that Elizabeth and Darcy invite all the Gardiners to Pemberley for the Christmas following their marriage. I suspect Darcy would insist on paying to smooth out the various complications of getting from London to Pemberley with children, and thus the invitation would not impose extra expenses on the Gardiners. (Darcy might have to apply epistolary peer pressure to do this, but he's honestly pretty good at that.)
This may be the first time since Georgiana's early childhood that there were any young children in the family at Pemberley. If so, it hasn't really happened since Darcy and Georgiana's father was alive, so even with Austen's relative unsentimentality about children, it's still probably a big deal on their side.
But also, I occasionally entertain myself by imagining what it would be like for the children, especially the oldest, a girl of eight. The other children are six or younger, and I suspect they're not going to have clear memories of life before their cousins' marriages (especially the boys, but perhaps even the six-year-old girl). An eight-year-old, though?
Miss Gardiner, I think, would have a very clear sense of life at home vs holidays at her aunt Bennet's much bigger house at Longbourn. The Gardiners seem to be quite well-off, but I doubt they're extravagant in the way of Mrs Bennet or living at the edge of their income—there's a reason they continue to live within sight of Mr Gardiner's warehouses. So a middling kind of genteel estate like Longbourn would probably seem quite grand vs her house in Gracechurch Street.
And then she goes to Pemberley.
Note: I've occasionally seen it suggested that Pemberley is a more or less ordinary gentleman's estate that is just really pretty and has a bunch of land attached, which I think is manifestly false. Apart from the architectural and landscaping details which suggest otherwise on their own, Elizabeth does note that the interior is suitable to Darcy's wealth and markedly elegant, yet understated by contrast to the OTT splendor of Rosings; this is a mark of aesthetic taste, not humility.
So I think Pemberley's elegance is about what you would expect from the combination of what they would consider good taste (furnishings along finer lines than the heavier and more ornate furniture of the past, restraint in decoration and semi-naturalistic landscape, that sort of thing) and an income greater than the average lord's. It looks like what it is.
The point is that for this young girl who does not always (perhaps often) accompany her parents' travels, Longbourn is probably a lot. Pemberley is a lot more. She was probably warned that it was much grander than most (or all) of what she'd seen before, but even so, I think that she's just the right age to be really powerfully struck by a place like that, and a place like that being Elizabeth's home. That's the moment, I imagine, when she realizes that things are going to be different now.
Jumping even more into headcanon, I also imagine that later, when Miss Gardiner is going to come into society, the Darcys very much want to do whatever they can for her. Ten years after that Christmas at Pemberley, their own children (assuming they have them) would still be young. Miss Gardiner would be eighteen, though—just the right age to come out. And I kind of love the idea of the Darcys hosting a big winter coming-out ball for the daughter of their beloved relations in trade.
Of course, she'd have gone to Pemberley more than those two times. But I imagine that first, powerful impression in that first Christmas at Pemberley is very much with her as she dances at her first ball.

SO-10: Smiling Faces...
If there's a lot of engagement on this, this post is liable to get real long, beware before you expand.
Tumblr media
Welcome to the Engagement Lounge, for A Funny Sort of Day (SO-10) an instalment! Short comments can go in the replies, but there's a 475 character limit. Longer ones will need a reblog. Remember to @asksoldieron if you're reblogging someone else's reblog, so I can see it too!
I will be laid up this week, and possibly for a few weeks, so if the links don't work or something's screwy, I can't fix it. This'll go up on automatic and I'll have to fix it later if it needs it!
*sigh* Some AI-generated shit made it into the art this week and I can't fix it. I don't have time. Public Domain Vectors has caved to the pressure and started generating graphics with AI. They seem to be tagging them, but it's all the way at the end of the list and I didn't know to look until it occurred to me I'd better check. I think they are generating these images based on their own in-house PD art, which is less galling than the usual kind, but I don't know. These learning algorithms are black boxes and they don't have to disclose how they work. My ability to assemble collages ethically is in danger, but I don't know how to protect myself. I will be checking the tags from now on, but it's on them to tag things honestly.
I don't generally have any use for the generic people and scenery, but this week was an exception. That is exactly the creepy, sterile landscape and family I wanted, and I put a lot of work into getting them to look that way, and I don't think I have the will to take it apart and put it back together again. Maybe later, but I'd still be using the AI stuff as a reference. I mean, I'm not going to get it out of my imagination.
Ah well. Setting my art guilt aside, this week is a long one and next week will be too! My idiot cast had a lot to do before I could get them to Erik. I tried to cram it in there as best as possible, but there's some overflow. Go ahead and pour yourself an extra coffee if you need!
The lyric I'm referencing is from the Temptations: "Smiling faces, smiling faces, sometimes, yeah, they don't tell the truth. Smiling faces, smiling faces tell lies and I got proof." (So my accidental use of some smiling AI people is at the very least thematically appropriate.) There are a lot of treacherous smiles in this one! I think the worst one has to be the doughnut lady, who is perfectly pleasant while making Milo complicit in a mass deportation/genocide - she assumes he'll be okay with it, no matter which it is. It's a good thing Milo hardly ever smiles!
It's also a good thing he likes trains! +1 for special interests and us poor folks who have 'em. Of course, it doesn't hurt that he does art with Calliope and she knows how to cut, paste and airbrush an ad. I've been setting this up for years, folks! Real-life Russia has a habit of playing with photos this way too. They probably could've put together a plausible little village, except most ads and photos move in TS and SO. No animation at all would be just a bit suspicious.
Old cisterns like this one
Tumblr media
offer a lot of potential living-space. And if they don't get water in them anymore, well, hey, why not? When magic forms its own weather patterns and quasi-lighting, sometimes it's good to be a little under the weather. But where did they go from there?
Think the Kijeks and all their animals went to the same place?

The biggest mystery in zero escape: wtf did Junpei study???
Ignoring Uchikoshi's suggestion that Junpei studied bitcoin in college. In this ramble, I'll be Over Sharing My Headcanons©. The good stuff is under the cut.
Junpei is a social sciences degree guy 100%. I've seen other headcanons in fics where he's a business major, which I mean he really does with a capital D fit the vibes for, socially sciency and all. The way he (in 999) laments having no friends / job / money screams social science guy (I would know).
Now, personally, I'm inclined to think that out of all the social sciences, he's a linguist. His wordplay, references to pop culture, and puns across all the games suggest he's a man of many big words, enough so that he can twist his words to his favour (see: manipulating the other characters sometimes. Junpei "yeah I never said I would open the door myself" mf Tenmyouji). Perhaps his wordy wit is most epitomised by the conception of the funyarinpa on a whim by assembling random Japanese sounds. And God he must've loved the idea of codenames in 999. Too bad he could never give himself a smartly thought out codename based on his bracelet. The cherry on top of this is explaining that Japanese idiom to Carlos. Assume everyone you meet is a thief. Finally he gets to put his knowledge of culture and words to badass use.
Linguistics!Junpei also fits with his whole thing of being Just A Guy who lost his faith in humanity. Studying linguistics, how humans have evolved languages to describe love. Hate. All sorts of human-ness. He really was just a man who thought that people were awesome. But as a detective he learned that humans have a common language in death, showing that words do NOT speak louder than actions. First it was akane sweet talking him and then ghosting him, now he doesn't know how to convey his thoughts honestly because of the horrors of his job.
So here is how the headcanon fully goes. Junpei, since grade school, was always good at picking up other languages and picked apart their meanings in comparison to his native Japanese. He liked learning English and Chinese in school when growing up in the suburban part of a small Japanese city. So when he got older he just accepted that maybe linguistics was for him, since that was what he was good at.
He was average in science and maths, history and geography. His best subject in high school was, as expected, English. So when he applied to college he went for linguistics. His classmates went for Medicine or Law or Politics but Junpei didn't want the responsibility over people's lives like that. So he just accepted that, hey, might as well study something I'm good at. I'll just become a high school English teacher or something. His parents were fine with whatever, he's their only child, at least he's good at something.
So then he went to university, and in his second & third year lived abroad in America as part of his linguistics degree. He lived like the average student in in the US of A, which unfortunately was like his only useful life experience immediately after the 2nd Nonary game [*]. At some point he watched Back To The Future to study how English was some decades before he was born, history of language yadda yadda (I've never spoken to someone who did linguistics so sorry if this sounds off). He's back in Japan for his fourth and final year and had a pretty exhausting day in a boring seminar when he returned to his dorm and got kidnapped.
After the whole second Nonary game fiasco, Junpei was travelling the world speaking the languages he learned: Japanese (mother tongue), English (fluent), Chinese (conversational), Spanish (picked up while in America). This took him far since he managed to hit the bullseye on pretty widely spoken languages it just so happened, but still he couldn't explain in words why he wanted to find Akane. If he loved her or not. After a while he needed money so he joined that detective agency™, it'll also help him find Akane, two birds one stone. Well, we saw how that turned out. Now he was both globetrotting AND traumatised!
He probably settled in America upon becoming a detective, dual citizenship ftw, and better not make mom and dad disappointed in his choice of job. They knew he dropped out but they knew his son was smart, he didn't need a degree to let his language skills flourish. They assumed he got a pretty good legal-related job and managed to talk himself into high wages. Oh, the wages were high alright, to make up for the shit he saw. Mr and Mrs Tenmyouji are just worried about their boy, who after November 2027 didn't really open up to them about anything. Sometimes mom would bring up That Girl You Were The Best Of Friends With but Junpei would just shrug. Dunno what happened to her.
After the decision game, Junpei just accepts how cool he is for being a humble polygot. Explaining the cool etymology of his astronomical family name to Astronomy major Phi (another headcanon for another day) is one of his favourite party tricks. He also wrote a think piece on Puns and the linguistic significance of cats after Sigma meowed too close to the sun.
TL;DR (I don't blame you if you didn't read all that yap) I like to think Junpei was a linguistics major. I'm a strong believer that he's a servant to social science because he's just like me fr.
[*] I think all the 2nd Nonary Game participants assumed they all got kidnapped from Japan. They probably all spoke Japanese during the Nonary game. Hence after the reveal that they're in Nevada, Junpei was designated How Tf Do We Get Back To Japan guy and What Do We Do In America expert.

uhhh hello. i was recommended xillia 2 as a cool (background) sibling relationship and pointed to your blog specifically, and i've been scrolling through your posts but i have absolutely no idea what's going on lmaoo ;-; uh. please, please don't feel pressured to if you're too busy or tired or just don't want to, but could you possibly direct me to some starting resources 👉👈
.......... i thought it was kaira but it was actually @asphaltaxismundi who recced me and x2 omg thanks <3 (i have also heard good things about FMA 2003, it's on my list for whenever i fall out of love with X2, but i third it!)
i'm warning you now though x2 is not a media you consume from start to finish because. yeah they're almost entirely built up in Japanese-only side material. if you play the game you'll be pretty disappointed, but the manga's English translation is incomplete... hhhhhhh
so i'm just gonna write you an abridged recap of them and if you're still interested i'll collect all the links to the translated stuff... be warned, this is LONG. i have so many feelings about them.
Tumblr media
Ludger is 20, Julius is 28, Ludger's memory of things is that Julius raised him. They live together in an apartment in the big city with their cat, Rollo.
Ludger admires the hell out of Julius and wants to be just like him and join the company that Julius works for so he can follow in Julius' footsteps. His personality varies across adaptations/player choices, he can be quiet and polite or outspoken and kind of snarky but canonically he does always hold Julius in high esteem, even if he's mad at him for being secretive. And Julius is SO secretive.
Julius is supportive of Ludger and cares a lot for him, and especially adores Ludger's cooking. He's super popular with girls because he's high-key famous, but he's like. brocon of all time. Literally just adores the crap out of Ludger. He's like the archetypal sweet caring protective big brother character tbh.
(manga scans are by blasteriifx and the translation is by flagfighter unless otherwise noted)
Tumblr media
(He seems quite stern when you first meet him in this setting, but he's actually like. the SOFTEST--)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't want to explain too much about Xillia 2 lore because I assume you just want the fun sibling stuff, but basically, their family is part of a clan of people called the Kresnik clan who can inherit special powers (called the Chromatus) that are necessary for completing what is called "Origin's Trial", and if they fail all humans will die.
The company that Julius works for, Spirius Corporation, is run by a branch of the Kresnik clan, and specifically by Bisley Bakur, Ludger and Julius' father (though Ludger's doesn't know he's their father).
Bisley is making the most concentrated effort to complete the Trial, but the Chromatus is rare (and using it will eventually kill the person) and he's very pragmatic about saving humanity and will do anything and use anyone to do so, including his family, and Julius discovers this eventually just before he meets Ludger which causes him to cut ties with his father and hate him.
(Not necessarily Bisley's fault though, Julius was born when he was 15 years old and the woman who would eventually become his wife, Cornelia, was 22 and his family tutor, so it's pretty much implied Bisley's family were equally pragmatic about things.)
So after Julius' mother dies working on the Trial (Julius eventually comes to believe Bisley sacrificed her, and canon sort of agrees with him), Bisley sleeps with Cornelia's sister Claudia (Ludger's mother), who runs away when she finds out her son will have a Chromatus, leaving behind Julius who she'd mostly been raising in his parents' absence.
One thing I haven't really touched upon is that Julius is fucked up as a kid, especially once Claudia is out of the picture. Having a Chromatus and working on the Trial involves going into alternate universes, and destroying those universes (usually by killing a specific person who's most different to the "real" world), so people who inherit the Chromatus are basically committing a lot of murder… Julius has been doing it since he was 11, and since the company line is "those worlds aren't real", he eventually gets into the mentality of "if the world is going to be destroyed, you can do whatever you want" so he and another teenager start competing to see who can kill the most people in the AU worlds.
Anyway, 13 year old Julius accidentally finds where Claudia and 5 year old Ludger are in hiding, and Claudia freaks out and thinks he's there to take Ludger back to Bisley. It's not even clear if she recognises Julius is her nephew, but she tries to kill him and Julius kills her in self-defence.
Tumblr media
(My machine translation this time. Also his hair's the wrong colour, idk why none of the official art ever remembers that Ludger's black hair is dyed as a teenager. he's supposed to have all silver-white hair as a child)
(By the way, Ludger and Julius are half-brothers and cousins. This isn't relevant to anything except it makes their family tree look a little bit fucked up, which I personally find hilarious.)
Tumblr media
Ludger gets amnesia from the trauma and no longer remembers his mother or her death. Canon gets questionable around here, but it's pretty universally agreed upon that Julius adopts Ludger so he can take advantage of using Ludger's Chromatus pocketwatch (which will make Julius more powerful).
He doesn't really care for Ludger himself, so they're pretty distant for two years even though Ludger just thinks his big brother is the coolest, but eventually...
You, my half-brother through our father, and my cousin. You who had lost your mother, the only family you had. I spoke to you warmly through the pain, I got close to you, and I took you home with me. I faked our blood ties to take your watch as my own, just so I could make myself stronger. I wasn’t worried at all about the fate of my very young relative. All I wanted was power. It was selfish of me. And still… You had burned your hands, clumsily preparing dinner. You waited for me to come home, looked straight at me and told me “welcome home” with a smile. It changed that awful me.
7 year old Ludger, wanting to make a small show of gratitude and make his brother happy, made a clumsy attempt at cooking. He discovered his brother’s favourite food, and presented him with a tomato dish. Julius had always been cold, but his lips quivered and he smiled, looking as though he was about to cry. Seeing that smiling face, Ludger finally understood that he was needed.
Or as I like to summarise it...
Julius: oh shit this kid loves me
And then he learned morals for him. And how could he not. Look at this sweet child
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(flagfighter's translation)
SO. For the next thirteen years they grow pretty close and chill with each other and are wholesome and sweet and it's adorable because Ludger doesn't even have that much of a social life outside of Julius? Like it's mostly unintentional because Ludger needs to befriend the prequel game cast when he's 20, but after he graduates high school he stops talking to the two (2) shortlived high school friends he had and is more worried about...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(my machine translation)
Meanwhile you remember Julius is constantly lying for years and years about all the murder he's doing and that he killed Ludger's mother and Ludger knows NOTHING, he's just spending what free time Julius has off-work being cute and arguing Rollo's diet ;-;
“Only because you keep feeding him canned food when it’s not time for a meal. Don’t you think he’s gotten fat?” Julius picked Rollo up and nuzzled their noses together. “He’s saying you’re fat, but you look perfectly healthy to me, don’t you, Rollo?” “Meow!” “Stop that, if a cat’s fat it’s because of the owner. Do you know how dangerous it is to a cat’s health if they’re overweight, Julius?” Ludger’s lecture continued on, but Julius found his scolding pleasant. He took a sip of coffee and murmured that it tasted good, then diligently listened to his brother’s lecturing.
So Julius has been hiding Ludger's existence from official records to protect him from their father. When Ludger tries to apply to join Spirius, Julius sabotages him and rigs his exam so he'll fail. Ludger is bummed out but accepts that he couldn't make it and eventually gets a different job as a train station cook. Unfortunately on his first day the place gets attacked by terrorists and Ludger ends up meeting Bisley, Bisley sort of gloats to Julius that he knows Ludger exists now, and Julius just decides right then and there to murder him.
Tumblr media
The manga adds additional context from Ludger's POV and i adore it for that ;-;
But yes, Julius is canonically ready to just murder the fuck out of their dad right in front of Ludger if it keeps Ludger away from the Trial. Which is already quite delightful... Then Ludger gets unknowingly dropped into an alternate universe where that version of Julius is trying to kill both Bisley and Ludger because Ludger met Bisley and admired him and chose him over Julius...
Anyway, after that, Julius is framed for trying to assassinate the CEO and goes on the run, while Ludger is eventually blackmailed into joining Spirius and using his Chromatus. Julius refuses to explain anything to Ludger and keeps trying to keep him out of things, which Ludger finds frustrating, and Ludger does find out that Julius sabotaged him earlier, but the manga makes it pretty clear that in the end they're both just worried about each other.
(revised machine translation proofread by yume-x-hanabi)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I won't recap the rest of the story, but I'll do a quick note that there's a lullaby Julius hums to Ludger called the Hymn of Proof.
(old not great machine translation but i can't be bothered to open photoshop and fix it)
Tumblr media
Which btw in the game Julius describes as "a song about longing to see someone". This scene, btw, is immediately followed by Julius trying to kidnap Elle (the little girl Ludger befriends who is unbeknownst to both of them, Ludger's daughter from an AU world), because he can use her powers. I kind of love it when Julius switches between seeming so fond and sweet and then getting very serious.
But, ultimately Julius just wants Ludger to be happy. When he sees Ludger is desperate to save Elle, he understands that sentiment because he feels the same devotion to Ludger. The manga plays it out a little differently though...
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway Julius pretty much disappears from the plot after this point, and eventually returns for the endgame. I mentioned earlier that the Chromatus will kill its users eventually, and Julius is actually secretly dying, and once he dies he will create an AU world and disappear from the "real" world.
And near the end of the game, it's revealed that a specific human sacrifice is needed to reach the Land of Canaan (plot important place to complete the Trial) and stop Bisley and save Elle (who went with Bisley to protect Ludger), and the only options left are Julius or Ludger. Julius, of course, offers his own life, because he's already dying, and encourages Ludger to come and kill him.
Even for the sake of saving the world...
Tumblr media
And well. Here I will leave you with the two ways this goes down.
Ludger refuses to kill Julius (bonus: unused dialogue)
Ludger agrees to kill Julius
Both are pretty tragic, but they sort of feed into each other. If Julius dies, the world he creates is a world where everything is peaceful and everyone, even Bisley, is alive, but if you pay attention to the NPC dialogue (not shown in the video) it becomes... very obvious that Ludger is not friends with any of the characters he is in the Prime Dimension, and that this is a world where Elle will never exist, not as Ludger's daughter or in any other form.
Which ties directly into the ending where Julius lives, and he admits a world where Ludger chose him over everything else is 'maybe' the world he wanted too.
And it FUCKS ME UP SO MUCH that Julius never ever EVER makes that known? Yes it's known he adores Ludger yes he tries to take Elle from Ludger (ultimately for pragmatic reasons, he needs Elle's specific powers, but I wouldn't say he's not not jealous that she's proof Ludger will leave him) but given he immediately changes his mind when Ludger is so attached to her he's willing to risk his life for her, Julius is NOT openly possessive over Ludger and that makes me lose my mind. Like deep deep down he does want Ludger all to himself but, consciously? What's more important to him is Ludger's happiness.
Meanwhile Ludger... loves his friends, certainly loves Elle, and it's easy to forget because Julius is so rarely relevant in the main story, but Julius is also so important to him. He didn't even want to leave Julius as an adult. Even if he agrees to kill him, it's devastating...
There is also a story parallel I didn't touch upon, which is Elle's father, the alternate version of Ludger. He also murdered his friends to protect his daughter from Bisley (who wanted to use Elle to save their world), but he also murdered his version of Julius, and years later he can say that in the end Julius only cared about protecting Ludger. It's uncertain because Victor isn't a very reliable narrator, but you can pretty clearly see where the parallels are that, Ludger can do pretty horrible things to protect the people he loves, and Julius can supersede Ludger's happiness in favour of keeping him alive.
(Mind you, X2 literally ripped me away from the depths of my SPN obsession and has now surpassed the length of time that my SPN rennaissance lasted, so I did initially go into X2 thinking Julius was perhaps controlling and Ludger wanted his own space, except... no... and it's devastating...)
But then we get the little fun bits of Bad Ending Ludger's thoughts and the guidebook summary and the staff commentary and the music that plays being called "the bond more important than anything else"...
I am so normal about them. They love each other so much.
I know you were specifically asking about sibling stuff but, yeah Xillia 2 all around is so good for non-romantic "I'm gonna murder people to save the person I love" feelings. Which is why if you looked at my recent posts it's not actually about the brothers 😂
anyway if you actually got to reading all this rambling you could maybe... reach out to me again... and i'll yell some more about them with actual sources and better explanations...

Still working on my comic for COBB and I have so many other comics to do after that so I'm just gonna talk about some quotes I like from the trilogy that I've been thinking about:
"But no one loves magic like I do. None of the other magicians-none of my classmates, none of their parents-know what it's like to live without magic. Only I know. And I'll do anything to make sure it's always here for me to come home to". Carry On Chapter 2 in hindsight this line is devastating.
"The first time I came back to Watford, my second year, I climbed into my bed and cried like a baby" Carry On Chapter 3. So can anyone imagine how it felt when the one place he could call his permanent home refused him entry after he lost his beloved magic: "The gates wouldn't even open for me tonight" Epilogue Carry On.
"I still can't believe they're friends. I can believe it of Simon; he'll make friends with anyone who's willing. Anyone who doesn't mind the risks of befriending a human wrecking ball." CO AGATHA talking about Baz and Simon, CHAPTER 77 awww Simon 😢
"Baz came back. This morning. He was always going to come back. I think he always will, if I make it good for him. I think he wants this, wants me. And I'm going to make it so good for him. This morning. This life" AWTWB Chapter 82. I think with the painful pattern of abandonment that Simon has experienced, this was super important for him and I like how in this moment Simon accepts his agency in good things happening for him and acknowledges the depth of Bazs love for him.
"Could this be real? Is it something else that will blow up in my face? Does everything I believe in fall apart?" AWTWB Chapter 89 for Simon learning that the Salisburys are his family is a happy thing so of course with the way things have gone in his life he's gonna question it, i hope in Scattered Showers that we see some Salisbury fluff.
"We grew up together, he spends every Christmas at my house" CO Agatha Chapter 13 and "Would my life have been different if i hadn't grown up with Simon like a brother?" WS Agatha Chapter 4. They should have been allowed to stay siblings but I think that the pressure from everyone, including Agatha parents pushing them to date stopped them from being the siblings I think they both needed. Simon probably assumed that the only way he could be part of the Wellbelove family was to date her. Can you imagine if they had adopted him instead? He and Agatha would have been legit siblings and could have like fought over Baz, talked about crushes, Normal stuff, and watched Dr WHO with Helen all the time. Penny and Simon are also like siblings but I can't see Mitali adopting him. The Wellbeloves might have though, even just to have a powerful child.
Is anyone else charmed by Simon calling the younger years "littleuns". It's so cute and such an endearing term.
"There are still a lot of people who don't accept Simon, even among the Mage's allies. "It takes more than magic to make a mage," is what Baz had always said. It sounds like classist nonsense, but in a way, it's true. The unicorns have magic. The Vampires have some. Dragons, numpties, ne'er-do-wolves-they all have magic. But you're not a magician unless you can control magic, unless you can speak its language. And Simon...Well. Simon." PENNY CO CHAPTER 23 Baz may have initially said this with disdain before but I think in hindsight it might be sort of comforting to Simon now. Also I fully believe that Shep will find non verbal Mages cause this whole thing sounds like WOM propaganda.
"(How does a magician fall in love with a centaur? What do they have in common?) ("The top half",  Simon said, when I tried to discuss this with him.)" WS Penny Chapter 40. LEGEND. ATTA BOY SIMON LOL

Lord of Shadows Book Quote RP Meme
Tumblr media
book two in the TDA book series by Cassandra Clare- feel free to edit the quotes or change pronouns for rp purposes
“Everyone is afraid of something. We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don't wish you didn't fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn't feel anything.”
“If you steal any of the books from the library, I will know, and you'll be sorry.
“Break my heart, break it in pieces. I give you permission.”
“Fiction is truth, even if it is not fact. If you believe only in facts and forget stories, your brain will live, but your heart will die.”
“Those who cannot love do not understand it”
All dreams end when you wake.”
“Sometimes the most ruthless heart speaks the most truth”
“There is truth in stories,”
Who would ever want movies or TV when there are books?”
'Now get out of here before I risk his life by waking him up so he can turn you into a garbage fire. Something that would match your personality.'
"I kill plants just by looking at them."
I'll never be in love with anyone again who isn't you.”
“When people die, our dreams of what they could be die with them. Even if ours is the hand that ends them.”
“I think you cannot root out love entirely. I think where there has been love, there will always be embers, as the remains of a bonfire outlast the flame.”
Am I the only one who's read X-Men and realizes why this is a bad idea?”
“Wikipedia knows about everything. It might be run by warlocks.”
“ ‘We are dust and shadows,’ ”
“Some of us are very handsome dust,”
I mock you with my sugar cravings.”
“To make a true choice, we must have true knowledge.”
“Lex malla, lex nulla,” [a bad law is no law.]
“I need to be whole again. Even if it doesn’t last.”
“The bad things can't matter more than the good things”
"Does anyone want to tell him that goldfish are freshwater fish and can't survive in the ocean?"
I've heard roling out of bed in the morning helps you build up resistance to surprise attacks.”
Not my favorite nickname. I prefer, "Our Lord and Master" or maybe "Unambiguously the Hottest.”
“I am saying the choices we make in captivity are not always the choices we make in freedom. And thus we question them. We cannot help it.”
“When a decision like that is made by a government, it emboldens those who are already prejudiced to speak their deepest thoughts of hate. They assume they are simply brave enough to say what everyone really thinks.”
I did. So is this like a high-five-slash-chest-bump- situation or an oh-my-God-what-are-we-going-to-do-situation?”
“Your pretense does not fool me, gnome,”
Just words I like. If I say them to myself, it makes my mind - quieter. Does it bother you?”
"Hold on to me."
“There's never going to be anyone else for me. That's just how it is.”
“That is love, son of thorns. We welcome its cruelest blows and when we bleed from them, we whisper our thanks.”
“We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don’t wish you didn’t fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn’t feel anything.”
“You took my life apart and put it back together.”
“To consider possibilities was to open yourself up to pain.”
We all have wounds that are sometimes better cared for by somone else.”
“There's something about a place you've been with someone you love. It takes on a meaning in your mind. It becomes more than a place. It becomes a distillation of what you felt for each other. The moments you spend in a place with someone... they become part of its bricks and mortar. Part of its soul.”
“People say we're unlucky because we don't have parents. But I think they're unlucky because they don't have a brother like mine. -”
“The difficulty is not so great to die for a friend, as to find a friend worth dying for,’ ”
"But I can't go live with him, because him and his hot girlfriend are going off on some sort of secret mission."
“A strange evening, forsooth,”
“Don’t you forsooth me.”
“Few of us are lucky enough ever to know the whole truth about anything.”
“I have won for you a fish, my fair one,"
"Women are too savage,”
“If you believe only in facts and forget stories, your being will live, but your heart will die”
I thought you didn't love me anymore. But that isn't true, is it?”
Your life isn't wrecked. You're still alive. You can have a good “
'I came of age in the Dark War. I was baptized in blood and fire.”
“People are flawed,"
the better, brighter half of him, who tempered his ruthlessness, who forced him to acknowledge the light when he saw only darkness.”
I need you, always, always think about you, I was wishing you were with me in that goddamned attic and then I turned around and you were there, like you heard me, like you're always there when I need you ...”
“A pure fountain gives pure water”
“Human emotions are so foolish to them, and human minds and hearts so fragile.”
I should never have touched you. I never thought what we had could break so easily.”
It's not broken. We made a mistake - but being together wasn't the mistake.”
“That is the problem with revenge - you wind up destroying the innocent as well as the guilty.”
“It was terrifying to love someone who was forbidden to you. Terrifying to feel something you could never speak of, something that was horrible to almost everyone you knew, something that could destroy your life.”
I need you. You might be surprised to hear that.”
All the lights and the shouting and the people. It's like broken glass in my head.”
“There's a legend about that clock. For a second, when it chimes the hour, the gates to Heaven open.”
“You’ll find that the crisis is never over.”
I am sorry if I ever led you to believe anything else.”
“Truth is to be found in dreams,”
"How dare you tell me it's a tragedy?”
“We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don't wish you didn't fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn't feel anything."
I get my caffeine the way right-thinking people get it. From chococlate!”
"We fear things because we value them. We fear losing people because we love them. We fear dying because we value being alive. Don't wish you didn't fear anything. All that would mean is that you didn't feel anything.”
“Each family has a history we pass on to each successive generation. We bear the glories and the burdens of our name, the good and the bad our ancestors have done, through all our lives. We try to live up to our names, so that those who come after us will bear lighter burdens.”
“Hate like that can tear down the world.”
“What was one lie among so many others?”
“The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
“She remembered what it felt like to have her hands in that hair, how holding him had anchored her not just to the world, but to herself.”
“If you believe only in facts and forget stories, your brain will live, but your heart will die.”
“People often run even when they have nowhere to go,"
'You want to live. Just like everyone else does. You don't want to be trapped, is all.”
“The world isn't the way you want it to be, it's the way it is.”

Tell me more about your lore/worldbuilding for the Zora! I love that you have whole family trees for them that you know you won't really fit into the story, but they *exist*! How about some of these background Zora like Torfeau and Laflat? Do you have an "extended" Domain in your mind or do you stick to the in-game version?
HOOOOOHHH MY GOD LET ME SEE if I can try to keep things relatively succinct here.
(Also in the process of writing this post I have decided it might just be easier to go ahead and NAME ALL THE DAMN ZORAS so uh. I don't know, if this is a thing y'all want to see more of. Maybe I will actually like. Expand on the family trees a bit and post them or something!! Idk!!)
- For the Domain itself, there are a couple of 'extended' locations, but I generally try to stick close to the in-game version. The big one is I imagine that there are the 'royal apartments', which is  a structure I imagine would be about here on the map:
Tumblr media
It's pretty much exactly what it sounds like - a separate structure that contains the personal chambers of the royal family. One of Mipha's quests in Age of Calamity mentions her using Luminous Stone to decorate her "living quarters", so I sorta assume she and her family wouldn't sleep in the communal sleeping pools we see in the game. Plus. How in the world would Dorephan fit there. HOW DOES HE MOVE ANYWHERE REALLY, but I digress. It's connected to the throne room by a big staircase and looks down over the Domain.
I also imagine that there is a library underneath the Sheikah Shrine, so the main circular structure goes: throne room, sleeping pools, Sheikah Shrine room, library. AND I imagine the area underneath the Doamin, where in-game there's just some like, rocky platforms and some treasure chests, used to be more geared towards tourists, perhaps with an extra store down there and a restaurant! These are gone by the time of the game after the Calamity put an understandable halt to touristry slfjlsef Annnnd finally I do imagine there's some like... aquatic plantlife grown and farmed underneath the lake surface that we don't get to see.
FAMILY TREE TIME
I'll do Laflat first because Torfeau is one of the main characters travelling with Sidon in the fic and I've thought about her a lot more! Laflat is honestly one of the characters whose dialogue made me laugh out loud though, I love her SO MUCH.
- Actually before we go into that, both Torfeau and Laflat's family trees include two of the Domain's nonbinary Zoras! They are also some of the only young adults in the Domain who have both parents still alive by the time Link wakes up. - Laflat mentions in a bit of dialogue that her father "had to close his armor shop" after a decrease in Hylian tourists when handing over the Zora Greaves. Considering that Dento is still in business, I take this to mean her father is a separate armorer we don't get to meet. Her nonbinary parent (which I have sort of gone with calling a 'zizi', inspired by this article I read about nonbinary parent terms) is a researcher who works closely with Ledo's mom, and the two of them research insects/butterflies/dragonflies and the effects they have on cooking! - it's only briefly touched upon in chapter 1, but one of Tula's grandmothers (Marosa, Jiahto's wife) mentions that she's a retired cook and that she worked in a restaurant - one of Laflat's grandmothers worked with her there! - Laflat also has a younger sister, Tubi, who is a kind of seamstress. Zora's don't often wear cloth garments, but Tubi knows how to make them for the odd occasion a Zora does need that sort of thing!
- I'll stick with just Torfeau's immediate family because this is long haha. First off, Torfeau is Tottika's older sister! I originally headcanon'd them as twins, but upon replaying and seeking out each of Sidon's pre-Inogo-Bridge friends and talking to them, Tottika struck me as the definite baby of the bunch. And honestly I'm glad I made that decision because that way I get to draw parallels between the two of them and Mipha and Sidon - the older, responsible, introverted sister, and the younger, more naive, extroverted brother. - Torfeau and Tottika's mother is one of the only other Zoras who rivals Sidon in height! I don't really have like, a particular headcanon explanation as to why some Zoras are just GIGANTIC other than "sometimes it runs in the family" and "GENETICS ARE WEIRD, especially with fantasy fish people". She is a jeweler, which is an important job anyway because BotW establishes that gemstones contain elemental magic, but is especially important to Zoras for reasons that'll be explained in-fic. (specifically chapter 3) - their zizi is actually a close friend of King Dorephan! when Dorephan was still a prince, he went off on his own journey outside the Domain to update their maps of the Lanayru region, and their zizi was the cartographer! They're still just a cartographer, but they also ended up getting really good with a bow during the journey.

❝ well i’m the romantic type. ❞ / mona!
Tumblr media
Tetsuya hates routine, in fact he despises it so. It reminds him too much of eternity and how it never changes, a curse damned upon him. He has a hard time understanding how there's many out there who find comfort in routine, he can not precisely comprehend what's so comforting in things that will never change, where things will remain the same, where the expectation is a predictable one. He also can not say that he wishes to understand it either. So, in days that are quiet and stale, uneventful, they're usually days that bore him. Usually.
He finds himself sitting in a certain astrologist's couch with said astrologist laying on her front across his lap, consuming another rather thick book and its contents, every so often she even kicks her legs back and forth. It is quite a sight to behold, truly. He wonders how often do others get to see her like this or it's something reserved for in the privacy of her home and not even for him perhaps. They both do not don their signature hats, both hats hanging casually by a hat hanger in her living room. Tetsuya props his chin against his hand, elbow resting upon the arm of the couch for support as he watches her silently. Sure, he's bored but the annoyance he usually feels settle in with said boredom root of the monotonous of uneventful of days has yet to set in he's come to notice. Is that due to her company, it rouses the question. A question he does not want to answer. His attention remains on the back of her head for a while before his keen gaze sets a quick glance upon some of the text that peeks through and he notices a couple of names in said text that he recalls from a previous book that he has caught her indulging in passing before. He can only assume this is some sort of second volume of sorts.
"Another romance book?" His voice slices through the comfortable silence between them like a sword with a recently sharpened fine blade. There's a gentle scoff when he presents his question, a smile that comes alight, almost like she's gotten predictable to him at this point. It did surprise him at first, he discovered her stash of hopeless romantically inclined literature one day by accident when he decided to try to clean up her apartment for the hell of it. He did not hear the end of it that day for moving her stuff around without her consent or her permission beforehand. He would hardly say he did anything bad, he just made things neater, organized for her in her stead, he's so unappreciated honestly. But those are details that are neither here nor there now. It was a while ago. Just like her inclinations have slowly become predictable to him, her responses slowly more so as well. She used to be ashamed of the fact that he made this discovery about her, but when she answers him, glancing over her shoulder to take a peek at him with those moonlit-shaded kissed eyes, in the timbre of her tone there is hardly any shame anymore. Why, he even notices a small relaxed shrug as well, as if to tell him that this should not be breaking news to him of any sort at this point. And then her attention strays away from him as quickly as he got it, engrossing herself back into her literature.
Tumblr media
"So I've noticed that you are, my star." He chuckles. It seems like she's getting comfortable around him. He's yet to discern if that's a good thing or a bad thing. In the back of his mind he fancies it as the prior rather than latter. Odd how the mere presence of someone can make the result of conditions he would usually find to be insufferable and annoying different. Like him, she doesn't seem to want to fill the gaps of long silence with fodder, with casual small talk because they both know that hollow conversation isn't worth their while, such ridiculous pleasantries are beneath them. They are both characters of substance, he's come to learn that of her the hard way, but he learned it anyway. Mona is still someone shrouded in mystery to him, enigmatic, and she keeps him on his toes. It is something he can appreciate. Speaking of appreciating...
She's got quite the generous ass, why would he deny himself this view? She can lay across his lap like this, drown herself in her literature as many times as she wants. As far as he's concerned it is no loss to him. However, he'll keep this admiration to himself, keep it quiet, because he knows how she can be.
