Like, okay-- I've noticed the way Sanji has smiled more freely somewhat during the ending of that arc. Especially after the tea party and even during the recreation of the wedding cake. He no longer feels trapped in a sense, and can smile without fakeness. There were still thorns in his side, like Germa 66. However, Sanji can laugh and smile freely because he as full on trust with his captain, Luffy. He trusts in his friends, and will return to them.

Plus with what I've seen in Wano. That man can fucking smile so much because Sanji is back with his nakama.

Trigun Bookclub: Trigun Vol.1, Chapter #04

This was actually pretty much ready last night but I hit post limit. L

I'm doing a deep-read of the Japanese original print (reread) and Overhaul 1.0 (first read) side-by-side, and writing down everything I notice from small details, version differences, translation differences, etc. (and being so normal(<-lie) about my faves as always)

As always, here are the non-analysis panels of the babygirls (!!!!! this time with Milly my beloved)

Not as many this chapter since it's sort of between arcs.

Starting off with how this exchange between this guy and the mailman was handled! Originally, the "Thanks / Anytime" part was one speech bubble and came from the long-haired guy. He says「はいよ　ご苦労さん」(smth like "Alright. Thanks for your work."), and the tiny speech bubble from the mailman is a shortened form of "Thank you for your constant patronage." Because the lines become a bit redundant in English, Overhaul combined the guy's lines, splie his speech bubble, and moved the mailman's line to a more visible location. Just a little translation/typesetting trick I thought was clever.

April City in Japanese was stylized to Ainpril City.

I lied in the last post. Vash's antennae are back up; it'll still be a bit until his bent antennae becomes permanent. I guess it was just his hairdo coming loose during the Nebraska commotion.

This is definitely me reading into it too much... but I like the contrast between the girls, who have a job but are broke, and Vash, who does fuck all and even refused $$700 thousand but properly has money for the sandsteamer fare.

Also, he has a cool cloak! I forgot about that.

This conversation about Vash just... makes me Feel some Feelings. His pacifism and sheer niceness lights up the whole town. man.

Tiny detail: Silvie had a ruby note saying "store owner."

「うーん　少うしもったいなかった　かな」もったいない itself could!! mean "to be too good for smth" ("that was too good for me"), but here, used by itself with no additional context, it defaults to "wasteful" → "Maybe I missed out..." 😭 but we can ignore this. acespec Vash must prevail. i'm very sad about this too.

This does not mean the translation or the common Western interpretation of this is wrong!!!! But this is definitely the way Japanese readers interpret this line, and probably the meaning Nightow intended. If there was something like 僕には before the middle line, this would've definitely gone the acespec route. Implied subject/object is a bitch

But with your help, we can all just forget everything I just wrote here and pretend it never happened! Deal? Deal.

I didn't notice this until someone else mentioned it, but this is a Wolverine reference!

Translation error - This line is by Kaito (the boy), saying "That's gotta be from the second time!" pointing to when Vash stuck his head through the vent himself.

Audio Drama Sunday - 20th August ✨

I must admit that I dedicated A LOT of listening hours this week to the new Hozier album (which is incredible omg) but I still had some great audio drama listening!

I’ve been highly suspicious of Nimbus from the start, and I feel vindicated that he’s not a normal cat as well as relieved that he doesn’t seem to be overtly malicious. I can’t relate to Nikignik’s dislike of felines, but it did really make me chuckle when it was revealed that all indescribables fear cats… Buddy, you can fear something without reviling it! Ough and the look-in on Jackie HURT MY FEELINGS so bad!! I can’t cope with sad dogs 🥺

🦀 @thesiltverses (30) TSV is back, babey!!! The sound design at the start of the episode was phenomenal, I loved the way they weaved music in with the sound effects in such a fluid way (the river sure does rise!) And oh man, Faulkner, you fucking idiot. They know!! They all know!!! It is such a delight to hear some of my favourite VAs doing their amazing work again. Méabh de Brún has absolutely annihilated me already. I’m obsessed with this discovery that the Trawlerman appears to still favour Carpenter while the Caring Maiden seems to slip away the more Carpenter seeks her. I should have started a S3 bingo because I was hoping so badly that Carpenter would join up with Hayward and Paige!! This season is going to be amazing. I’m so ready.

📻 @monstrousagonies (108) Mab!! The queen returns! I am ever so slightly skeptical that Apocacorp is all bluster . . . I just feel like, even if that is the case, they’re not going away without more of a fight . . .

💫 Wolf 359 (48) Ugh what an absolute mind fuck! I’ve been tying myself in knots trying to work out how I would personally react and cope if faced with a scenario where one of my friends is not the person I knew but is otherwise indistinguishable from them. And I just don’t know!

🎩 @ethicstownpod (8) AAH!! Ethics finale!!! This show has been a wild ride from start to finish and WOW what an ending!! I really don’t want to give anything away to people who haven’t listened yet but I’m almost ashamed that I didn’t see this coming and if you haven’t listened to Ethics you really really need to!!!

I have, for the better part of like...several months, been working on this PMV like a man possessed and now it's done.

All my discussion about this is behind the cut for spoiler reasons but oh my god I am so so so so so happy. And relieved.

Overall the thought process behind this was really really simple: Akane sure has martyred three different men in her life (Aoi, Junpei, Sigma) and all for the Greater Good. I should explore that.

Aoi throws himself on the pyre willingly to save his sister. He is never seen again but I think about what his time during the Radical 6 pandemic was like and where he is during VLR and I weep.

Junpei would do anything for her, unwilling or not, and destroys himself until he has some other reason to live (in a timeline that is "worse" overall, which he has come to bitterly resent her for having that kind of mindset about).

Sigma is a bootstrap paradox whose entire involvement hinges on a 12/21/22/67 year old Akane seeing him doing/having done all these things and needing them to happen so that they can have happened. He's a Gordian Knot of time and free will and he has to be cruel to make things Correct and it kills him.

Sometimes in the PMV there's text I colored by grabbing from the image. Usually it's the word "dog" and it's colored for the person being talked about but I also do things like using Akane's purple when referring to fate, using the puppet string brown for talking about emotions, using the bright teal flash to talk about souls, and so on. It's a fun little detail for me.

Sigma has burn scars from the explosions. His right ear is ruined because tbef if he lost an eye to shrapnel (and his arms to the full explosion) he should also have burned the shit out of his face. That is my personal HC and I think it really solidified when I was doing this PMV.

Details you won't be able to see due to frame timing:

the sudoku shown is game-accurate

Junpei's eyebrows and eyelashes are still brown in his ZTD design because he's dying his hair

I hand drew the VLR timeline chart

see no evil (Sigma closes his eyes to the things he has to do to make a timeline that can be saved), hear no evil (Aoi, as a receiver, might have heard some of what Akane is transmitting and ough), and speak no evil (Junpei keeps his secrets close to his chest and so he keeps Akane's secrets too)

while the digital numbers in the second chorus look like SOS they're actually 505 (Akane, Zero, Junpei)

the dice in the next frame are meant to indicate Aoi, Akane, and Junpei (3, 6, 5)

I had the most fun with detailing The Chair(tm) (mindless details go brr) and the least fun drawing little Kanny on fire (it was a hard pose)

He does what he has to do, or what he thinks he has to. Does he see it as self-sacrifice, in a way? stooping so low for the sake of those he cares about? sorry again for the multiple asks but i'm obsessed with villains like this and have only just now managed to put the words together. cause like.... a lot of truly awful people aren't masterminds. They're people who are so very certain that they're in the right, and are so very wrong about that. i do love flamboyant, Evil-with-a-capital-E cartoon villains a lot (when done right), but there's something about having a villain be so normal, so clearly An Average(ish) Person, someone who may not even see how horrific their actions are. NOT THAT ANY OF THIS IS AN EXCUSE, it's not that they're misdirected or confused. it's like... the dead certainty that they are Correct and other people are Wrong. There's something very..... tactile? about it. "Real" might be the right word but it doesn't feel exactly right. It's like, this is a person you could meet. A person you could know. And they're just quietly (or not-so-quietly) abhorrent in so many ways. sorry for rambling my head is full of thoughts tonight and i apparently cannot shut up </3

Your assessment of Tigerclaw is spot-on. I would say he THINKS he thinks of himself as a normal, good husband and warrior who's doing his best and having a humble life. There's only so real that can be when he also has the constant thought of "I am the only one who sees the truth and I need to Fix Things because no one else can". He thinks he's so much more honest and realistic than he is. You know people like that. I know people like that. The most dangerous person is one that can fool themselves.

what if wheatley was like mindblown by the ability to make art at first.... bc hes ai and stuff.... you give him a drawing or ding him a song and hes super flustered and he goes to his room and like tries a bazillion times to replicate it but Obviously he has no experience so he sucks and you come across a drawing he hid or a poem on a notebook he forgot to close or something and hes super embarassed but we support him anyways

at first it looks similar to ai art but as he progresses he can teach himself to make original stuff..... he has to put it onto paper or vocalize it instead of just make a file out of it so he actually Learns it
