読売新聞の記事によれば、北海道大学と塩野義製薬（大阪）は、高病原性鳥インフルエンザから希少な鳥を守るために、同社が製造する人間用の抗インフルエンザ薬「ゾフルーザ」を使用した治療法の開発を進めているという。鳥インフルエンザは、絶滅の危機に瀕している野鳥や動物園の動物にも広がっていることから、ゾフルーザの適切な投与量を調査し、動物園や保護施設に普及させることを目指す（読売新聞）。昨秋から今春にかけて国内で鳥インフルエンザが広がり、感染が確認された養鶏場の鶏など1771万羽が処分され玉子の価格が高騰したことは記憶に新しい。こうした感染は、希少な野鳥にも広がっており、環境省によると、国が選定した絶滅危惧種にも影響が広がっている。鹿児島県では約1500羽のナベヅルやマナヅルが死亡または衰弱、北海道ではオジロワシの死骸からウイルスが検出されているという。北海道大学の迫田義博教授と塩野義製薬らの研究によると、過去の研究で感染した鶏を用いた実験を行い、ただし先ほど話題にした、鶏などの家禽の治療はウイルスの封じ込めを図るために認められていないため、治療法を確立しても適用されない方針とのこと。まずは保護対象の希少種を治療対象とし、動物園での活用も目指すとしている。

所謂シングルモルトなので、年度ごとに風味が異なるのも魅力。

カモの渡りシーズン到来！

ハクガンはまだまだたくさんいるようですが、切り替えた。（それよりマナヅルを見られなかったのが残念、、）

最近は晴れの日が多いので、岩木山もとてもきれい…。この画だけでどこの池かわかる人も多いと思う。

カモがとても少ない気がする。こんなものかなぁ？近くの大きな池にも例年より少ない気がする…。

その「大きな池」にトモエガモを探しに行ったが、見つからなかった。すでに、レジェンド（※前記事）さんが2名居て、お話中だったのでなんとなく話しかけられなかった。

ホオジロと、分からない鳥の声がしていたが、見つからず。コガラは平常運転で鳴いてた。

さっきの池の話に戻るけど、結局オナガガモとヒドリガモがほとんどで、お目当ての子はいなかった。

というか、私の倍率だと拡大して一匹一匹確認しないと、ウォーリーを探せ状態。珍しいカモだとしても、オナガガモのメスとそっくりだと全く気づかない。

そして、久々に池を開拓した！（やったー！！）

アオサギの他に、コガモ、ミコアイサ１羽（逃げられたｗ）等が群れで少しいた。周囲の林にはアトリやホオジロなど。

4月になると大体のカモが移動してしまうから、週1回の撮影ではきつい…。できるだけカメラを持ち歩き、隙があればすかさず池に通いたい…。

#Repost @izumi.chiikiokoshi ・・・鶴の朝の飛び立ちを観察出水市といえば鶴！といいながら早朝の飛び立ちを観るのは初めて。 62年続く鶴荘学園の羽数調査に同行させててもらいました。日が昇る前の真っ暗な空に早起きなツルの鳴き声が響いていて少しずつ明るくなってくるにつれて声が高く大きくなってくる。水を張られた寝床からちょっとずつ飛び立ち始め朝焼けの空に整列して飛翔するシルエットの美しさと言ったらもう！（ぜんぜん動画じゃ抑えきれていませんが...）からだ全体うっすらグレーがかった幼鳥の声がまた可愛い。大人の大きな鳴き声に混ざって聞こえるぴぃぴぃ。前回の観察の際には、もっと乱れた隊列で飛んでいた鶴たちが今回は綺麗な隊列を組んで飛んでいる。今月あたりから始まる「北帰行（シベリアへ帰る飛行）」に向けてみんなで練習しているんだと思うよ。とのこと。朝焼けを背景に、頭のすぐ上を大群で飛翔する鶴たちに恐竜時代にタイムスリップしたような感覚を味わい大自然の美しさに感動した朝。貴重な経験をさせて頂き、ありがとうございました！（次回行ける機会があれば体の芯まで冷えるので、温泉とセットにしよう）（鶴飛翔の画像や動画、続投しまーす） #鹿児島 #出水市 #kagoshima #izumi #鶴 #鶴観察センター #crane #birds #nature #morning #大自然 #野鳥 #マナヅル #ナベヅル #飛翔 #朝焼け #観光 #ツルの一声 #出水市地域おこし協力隊 #地域おこし協力隊 #地方創生 #町づくり #移住 #田舎暮らし #自然が好き #都会を離れる @atsuco_chan.works @turu26kan @kgotsuruhogo (Izumi, Kagoshima) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYkjIY5Pm0q/?utm_medium=tumblr

The Red-crowned crane is most the legendary of course...

If the brain-fluid-shield be considered part of his head I think he looks closest to a White-naped Crane or a Sandhill crane.

White-naped Crane (マナヅル, Manazuru):-

The White-naped crane even kinda has a beardstache aound its beak:-

It is the closest to Niigata’s state bird the Toki as far as red scarry path around the eye goes:-

As the red-crowned cranes flock in Hokkaido, the white-naped cranes flock in Izumi, Kagoshima.

But they all wade around in Hokkaido too. Its said the Red-crowned crane can shoo off the White-naped crane on a fight on the territory.

On that note, while cranes represent long-life, luck and joy in Japanese(and most other) cultures, such as in Chinese mythology it is representative of immortality and the xian(immortal/wizard/etc) could transform into a crane.

Celtic lore is the only one where the Crane is a bird of the Underworld and seeing three Cranes is a omen of death.

Cranes were an omen in some other cultures too, like seeing three cranes or seeing a crane circle thrice above were signs of death approaching.

Red-crowned Crane (タンチョウヅル, Tanchozsuru):-

The Red-crowned crane that flocks in Hokkaido.

The Red-crowned Crane is a revered symbol in most Asian myths. Japanese legend: it is thought to live a 1000 years and hence is a symbol of good fortune and eternal youth. The image or insignia of a crane is widely used.

It is also said the colors white and red are auspicious also due to being the colors associated with the tancho. Even the white(which often have red detailing) shinto wedding kimono or a shinto wedding kimono with the tancho embroidered are said to be symbolic of love, fidelity, happiness and a wish of long life. On that note, cranes mate for life...poor Tsurugawa

The story of the Crane wife is quite popularly known. It has many variation and which includes the “Tsuru no Ongaeshi” or the “Crane returns a favor”.

The Ainu consider the Red-crowned crane to be the Sarorun Kamuy or God of Wetlands. Apparently, since Tancho can be aggressive, they were long, long ago considered ominous but became associated with good fortune later. There is also smtg speculated by an ancyent Batchelor that connects clothing that came from the mainland via trade to Ainu(called 山丹服(santan fuku) or manchiw kosonte or santa sarambe; santa being the Ainu term refers to Manchurian or Tungusic/nani) with a story of the Sarorun Kamuy.
