Sun-Kissed Finch

My dog, Charlie, and I were sitting outside watching for birds. I was drinking coffee and had a camera on my lap, as usual. I was using Merlin Sound ID, to find out what birds were around. There were all kinds of tanagers and warblers around that I'll like to get a picture of, but it's kind of like having a fish finder, you know they are there but capturing them is a whole different thing. But here is a pretty good photo of a female house finch (Haemorhous mexicanus), it looks like she just had her hair done.

I don't post all of the photos that I post here to my Pixels gallery, but I post the photos I like best. Some don't make the cut. I most likely will post this one to the gallery. usually wait a couple of days to see how I feel about it then.

Face to face with an Atlantic puffin. These beautiful and weird birds spend their time at sea and return to the coast in spring for breeding. One of the colonies lies on the island Runde in Norway and I had the opportunity to see them up close – really close – this weekend. It was an amazing experience and I hope to visit another time and do the boat tour around the island.

Northern Cardinals (Cardinalis cardinalis) are regular visitors to my backyard. They are here year around. Generally, when they arrive in my backyard, they come in small groups and often I see mated pairs hanging out together. This one is diving for the ground underneath a birdfeeder, or maybe diving for the birdfeeder itself.

A shot from earlier last year year when I got the opportunity to watch a kingfisher pair over a span of ~2 months. I love that one still sees the water droplets flying around from the kingfisher that just emerged from the water.
