@emotionlcss : Plotted starter based off plot ideas post
The house was quiet, as it often was when it came to their home. Their parents liked the peace, especially now that the twins were in their twenties. Separate from the city, as if it were its own world, their home was on a nice piece of property that gave them plenty of privacy and freedom. There were plenty of chores and activities to keep the twins busy and less occupied with the outside world. Sinful. That's what their parents had called it. There was too much in the outside world that could corrupt and cause too many problems. Something that had been beaten into their heads since they were young and something that was mostly subscribed to. Marcus had begun to have doubts about a few things. Mostly when it came to the dangers of pleasure. He had caught his parents a few times in the throes of passion. It had spiked the curiosity and the questioning nature that had taken over his mind. Which was how he found himself sitting carefully beside his twin sister in her bed, watching her sleep. Licking his lips, he carefully pulled the sheet back and looked at her. He had never paid much attention to her body before, but now? She was a gorgeous woman. With a bit of a shaky touch, he trailed fingers along her thighs, her chest. She would wake eventually, but he started his exploration with her asleep because he was too nervous to do it with her awake.

Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!
Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).
Maya is incredible. I loved her.
I haven't finished all the issues yet, but do you have any other recommendations?
WAH this makes me so happy, i'm glad you still gave it a shot even with how busy life is!! ;v;
i’d love to give reccs, and i’ll try to go a beginner friendly route! tbh you can pick up whatever here, but since you've read R:SOB i’d immediately follow up with Batman and Robin (2011) #1-8! this first arc is what’s referred to in Maya’s introduction, and it's just. so good.
Main Books
Batman and Robin (2009)
Dick as Batman with Damian as his Robin!
#20-22 Tree of Blood: Dark Knight vs White Knight arc is done by Tomasi and Gleason, the team for the next Batman and Robin series
*Batman and Robin (2011)
Bruce and Damian figuring out their relationship as both Batman & Robin and father & son
imo you can enjoy the ride and read straight through this but i’ll add context to avoid as much confusion as possible since there’s the occasional tie-in or offscreen events, like Damian’s death nbd
Batman Incorporated (2012) #1-10
events leading to Damian's death - affects Batman and Robin (2011) from issue #18
kind of a tough read especially with how Talia's written, but a lot of iconic bits like Batcow, Damian's vegetarian declaration, Alfred the cat, "We Were the Best, Richard."
Robin (2021)
another self-discovery adventure, particularly after Alfred’s death and a fallout with Bruce (and questionable writing choices from his last Teen Titans run)
Batman and Robin (2023)
currently ongoing! after a number of events, Bruce and Damian are back as a duo
Damian Dynamics!
Batman: Streets of Gotham (2009) #7, 10-12
arc where Damian meets one of his first Gotham friends, Colin Wilkes
Batgirl (2009) #5-7, #17
Steph and Damian dynamic! "the bad cop, worse cop" dysfunctional duo
Red Robin (2009) #13-14
early Tim and Damian dynamic that of course includes fighting haha. funny enough, accidentally my first intro to Damian LOL
Teen Titans (2003) #89-92
Dick!Batman has Damian join the Teen Titans. Start of Damian and Rose Wilson dynamic that’s extended in Robin (2021)
Batman: Gates of Gotham (2011)
Damian meets Cass and has a brief team up
Gotham Academy (2015) #7
Damian meets Maps Mizoguchi! they have a few other meetings, but outside of that the series itself is a great read!
Robin War Event (2015)
Robin War (2015) #1, Grayson (2014) #15, Detective Comics (2011) #47, We Are Robin (2015) #7, Robin: Son of Batman (2015) #7, Robin War (2015) #2
Duke and Damian dynamic! not exactly beginner friendly but these are the main issues in order for the event! you can also read the TPB version for everything including Tie-Ins
Nightwing (2016) #16-20, #42, #43
#16-20 Nightwing and Robin arc!
#42 Dick on a mission to save Damian! the one appearance of "Wiggles" the dragon
#43 Dick, Roy, and Damian team-up
New Talent Showcase 2018 "Catwoman: Pedigree"
Selina, Damian, and Alfred the cat
Batman: Prelude to the Wedding - Robin vs. Ra's Al Ghul (2018)
Selina, Damian, and Cheese Viking - Damian's fav game shown in Nightwing: Rebirth (2016)
Monkey Prince (2022) #1-4
Marcus Sun Shugel-Shen's main comic, but Damian features as a fun dynamic here before they're in more serious circumstances in Batman VS Robin (2022)/Lazarus Planet event
Superman (2016) #10 - 11
the beginning of the Super Sons! featuring Maya!
Super Sons (2017)
solitary arcs but there’s a few event tie-in issues later
Adventures of the Super Sons (2018)
literally more Super Sons adventures lol galactic shenanigans yeehaw
Challenge of the Super Sons (2020)
Super Sons time shenanigans feat. the Justice League
Robin 80th Anniversary (2020)
"Boy Wonders" - brief Damian feature as Tim considers his next step in life
"My Best Friend" - Jon's thoughts on Damian and their dynamic
"Bat and Mouse" - refers to Damian's unfortunate Teen Titans (2016) run at the time of release which follows up with Teen Titans Annual #2 where Damian briefly gives up Robin
Extra Comics!
Superman/Batman (2003) #77
Kara and Damian in a Halloween team-up! also the appearance of "Li'l Matches" lol
DCU Halloween Special '09 "Cavity Search"
Damian out on a solo mission for Halloween night. Immediately after is Tim's Red Robin story "Then and Now: Our Father's Sins" which is more somber in contrast but also a good read!
DCU Halloween Special 2010 "Robin the Vampire Slayer"

Halloween themed comic with a sweet short story of Damian alongside Solomon Grundy
DC's Terrors Through Time (2022)

Batman: Li'l Gotham (2013)
lighthearted series that instantly makes me smile with the silliness and Dustin Nguyen’s art i love this dearly
Secret Origins (2014) #4 "A Boy's Life"
a retelling of Damian's origin story
Detective Comics (2016) #1001-1005

DC VS Vampires (2021)
Damian makes appearances throughout this elseworlds book, but the one-shot DC VS Vampires: Hunters (2022) is vampire Damian-centric!

Batman: Urban Legends (2021) #20-23
#20 “My Son” Talia and Bruce focus

Tumblr media
*Batman and Robin (2011) reading guide
i'm mostly trying to avoid the "what did i just walk in on?" kinda feeling when i first started reading comics LOL i'll list the comics where events take place, but you don't necessarily have to read them to go through this book since things are usually explained as quickly as possible in the first page or so
#0 Someday Never Comes
Talia and baby Damian before he grows up to meet Bruce
#1-8 Born to Kill
just an incredibly solid arc for Bruce and Damian!
#9 Court of Owls Tie-In Issue

mostly solitary arc! end of it leads into the Death of the Family event
#15-16 Death of the Family Tie-In Issues
Damian and Joker face-off... Alfred's been kidnapped by the Joker, and Damian goes looking for him. During Batman (2011) #13-17
#17 Life is but a Dream - Death of the Family Epilogue
a sort of subconscious check-in through the dreams of Damian, Alfred, and Bruce. Nightwing (2011) #17 features Damian encouraging Dick after Death of the Family events

#19-23 Denial, Rage, The Bargain, Despair, Acceptance
Bruce through the stages of grief with some batfam appearances in each. also introduces Carrie Kelley into continuity as Damian's acting tutor.
Batman (2011) #19-20 also addresses Bruce's loss
#23.1-23.4
these could be skipped - villain stories, also related to Forever Evil event.
#24-28 The Big Burn
optional Batman and Two-Face/Harvey Dent arc, #23.1 is part of this story!
Damian's resurrection and return
#29-32 The Hunt for Robin
Ras took Talia and Damian's bodies from their graves, and Bruce goes after him.

Godfrey ends up taking the shard, along with Damian's body since it was emitting the same energy.

Annual #3 2015 Moonshot
one-shot Batman and Robin adventure on the moon!
...and of course after Batman and Robin (2011), Damian's story continues in his first solo Robin: Son of Batman (2015)!

- A music video aired set to “Tightrope” by Electric Light Orchestra recapping all of the events that led us to the matches taking place tomorrow night at The Long Mirror Of Time.
SEGMENT FIVE (NINE MINUTES):
Tumblr media
- Footage recorded prior to today’s taping aired showing Starboy Charlie, Marcus Mathers, Brogan Finlay, and Ricky Morton in the ring in an otherwise empty Good Time Theatre. Ricky Morton told them how grateful he was that his son Kerry agreed to give him another chance, and Ricky started about how he’s been studying folkstyle’s matches and has some tips before Charlie interrupted him. Starboy told Ricky it’s great that he’s been breaking down tape, but they asked him here today because they wanted to conduct an experiment. Kenzie Paige had sent over her NWA World Women’s Television championship and her New South Pro Wrestling championship, and Kerry Morton let them borrow the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship. They wanted to take turns hitting Ricky in the head with them to see which belt hurts the most so they know which one to use if it comes to that. Ricky agreed and was told to take position applying the ankle lock, a favorite hold of Shaw Mason, to Starboy. Ricky put the hold on and was hit in the back of the head by Finlay with the New South championship. Ricky crumbled to the mat as the three shouted for him to get up. A dazed Morton reached his feet and with some help put the ankle lock back on Starboy. Mathers waffled Morton in the back of the head with the NWA Women’s TV belt. The trio called for Morton to get back up, but when he couldn’t Starboy had Mathers and Brogan hold Ricky up by his armpits before Charlie cracked Ricky in the skull with the NWA Jr. Heavyweight strap. The three looked down on the unconscious Ricky Morton and decided to ask him which hurt the most when he wakes up.
Tumblr media
The Production (Derek Dillinger and Ziggy Haim) vs. TrustBusters Reserve (Invictus Khash and Hyan)
*Match Continued During The Commerical Break*
SEGMENT SIX (FIVE MINUTES):
- With two minutes remaining in the broadcast the bell was rung as the TV time limit had expired so the program could fulfill advertising commitments. The TV time limit has expired and this match has been ruled a DRAW. (8:20 aired)
Tumblr media
- As Sudu Upadhyay tried to thank this week’s advertisers, the fight between The Production and the TrustBusters Reserve continued. Dom Kubrick and Al Deniro of The Production and Joshua Bishop and Big Dan Champion of the TrustBusters Reserve made their way to the ring and joined the melee. As the two factions battled around ringside, Sudu thanked our sponsors, Cousin Willie’s Microwave Popcorn, Kid Cuisine, and Sound Of Freedom in theaters now starring Jim Caviezel. We closed the show with Sudu informing fans he has just been told that The Production and the TrustBusters Reserve will settle this tomorrow night in Wilkes-Barre!

We know some more about DC anthology starring Asian characters by Asian creators. Also, they revealed the alt-cover, which puts Cass Cain front and center.
Titulat Parade of Heroes is Katana story, but it wil lfeature Cyborg and Blue Beetle Jaime Reyes as supporting characters.
Gene Yang and Bernard Chang will introduce DC’s version of the Monkey King, who will debut helping Shazam fight Doctor Shivana.
Both Cassandra Cain (referred to not as Orphan but as Batgirl) and Damian Wayne will both get solo stories, former by Mariko Tamaki and Marcus To and latter by Aniz Ansari and Sami Basri. But they’ll ALSO both feature in a story by Dustin Nugyen which will also see return of long-time not seen friend of Damian, Colin Wilkes.
Greg Pak and Sumit Kumar are doing a team-up between Green Arrow Connor Hawke and Kenan Kong, Super-Man of China.
The graphic novels fans will be happy to see that Sara Kuhn (Shadow of the Batgirl) is writing Emiko Queen story and Minh Le, writer of Green Lantern: Legacy, is back with main character of that book, Green Lantern Tai Pham.
There is a story by a yet unannounced creative team starring Grace Choi, Anissa Pierce and Black Lighting. It’s called “Family Dinner” so I’m just gonna tak @thefingerfuckingfemalefury here....
Finally, Ryan Choi and Cheshire stories, but we’re told this is only some of what’s coming. I remember older solicits mentioned Lady SHiva, for example.

Due out on May 11, DC Festival of Heroes: The Asian Superhero Celebration will include stories by Asian-American creators about Asian and Asian-American heroes. Here’s the list of stories that will appear in it:
The new character Monkey Prince will debut in a story written by Gene Luen Yang with art by Bernard Chang.  Monkey Prince is inspired by the Monkey King, legendary hero of Chinese mythology and the classic tale Journey to the West. In Yang and Chang’s 12-page story, “The Monkey Prince Hates Superheroes,” Monkey Prince battles and teams up with Shazam! to defeat Dr. Sivana and a Chinese deer demon spirit.
“Masks” – Ram V, writer of Catwoman, Justice League Dark, and The Swamp Thing, teams up with Audrey Mok, the artist of Sera and the Royal Stars, to tell a story featuring Jade Nguyen, a.k.a. Cheshire. Tying into V’s Catwoman run, Selina Kyle’s protégé Shoes has visions of being rescued as a child by Cheshire. Shoes takes these visions as a sign, donning a mask, taking the name “Cheshire Cat,” and asking Selina Kyle to train her. But is Catwoman ready to take on a sidekick?
“Sounds” – Detective Comics writer and Eisner Award winner Mariko Tamaki (Harley Quinn: Breaking Glass) and artist Marcus To team up to tell a story featuring Cassandra Cain, a.k.a. Batgirl. Batgirl struggles to understand words, but with her ability to read body language and uncanny fighting skills, she really doesn’t have to…until she meets someone and wishes that she had the right words—ANY words—to say to them!
“What’s in the Box?” – Cassandra Cain steps into the spotlight once more, but this time with Colin Wilkes, a.k.a. Abuse (who first appeared in Detective Comics #947, October 2008), courtesy of words and art by Dustin Nguyen. Abuse finds Batgirl sitting by a bridge, upset by a comment made by Damian Wayne.
“Dress Code” – Green Lantern Tai Pham makes his first comic book debut in this story by Green Lantern: Legacy writer Minh Lê with artist Trung Le Nguyen. Green Lantern is fighting with Arkillo, and the villain taunts him for his costume “looking like a dress.” This reminds Tai of a memory with his dead grandmother who he inherited his powers from.
“Festival of Heroes” – In a story by writer Amy Chu and artist Marcio Takara influenced by current headlines, Katana, Cyborg and Blue Beetle (Jaime Reyes) are asked to safeguard an Asian American and Pacific Islander community celebration against potential violence from a white supremacist group. But the heroes are quickly reminded that you don’t need capes, masks, or even special abilities to be a hero.
“Hawke & Kong” – Writer Greg Pak and artist Sumit Kumar team up on a story spotlighting the return of onetime Green Arrow Connor Hawke and Kong Kenan, also known as New Super-Man. Connor and Kenan need to do some quick thinking when a gift for Connor’s Korean aunt gets damaged in a battle with a dragon!
“Special Delivery” – Master of None writer Aniz Ansari makes his comic book debut with artist Sami Basri in this story featuring Robin (Damian Wayne). As Robin ponders about his heritage, he slowly discovers that something about this pizza place seems off…
“Kawaii Kalamity!” – Shadow of the Batgirl writer Sarah Kuhn and illustrator Victoria Ying (Diana: Princess of the Amazons) tell a story about Red Arrow’s reluctance of enjoying “kawaii” things because of people’s general assumptions of what she likes simply based on her Japanese heritage.
“Family Dinner” – Amazon juggernaut Grace Choi has to meet her girlfriend Anissa Pierce’s dad for dinner. But when your girlfriend is Thunder, that means meeting the parents is that much more stressful because her father is Black Lightning!
“Perceptible” – The Good Asian duo of Pornsak Pichetshote (writer) and Alexandre Tefenkgi (artist) tell a tale featuring The Atom (Ryan Choi) trying to defeat a microscopic robot sent from the future…to save our reality as we know it!

LEEDS UNITED 2 ROTHERHAM UNITED 0 Leeds United: Peacock-Farrell, Ayling, Cooper, Berardi, Phillips, Douglas, Klich (Jansson 88), Alioski, Saiz (Baker 80), Hernandez, Roofe (Bamford 86). Subs not used: Blackman, Pearce, Harrison, Shackleton. My first visit to Elland Road of the 2018/19 season was a very positive one - second half goals from Luke Ayling and Kemar Roofe handed Leeds United a 2-0 victory over Rotherham United. There's been another summer of change at LUFC following the disappointments of last season.... In May, owner Andrea Radrizzani sold a 10% stake in the club to 49ers Enterprises, the investment entity behind American football giants San Francisco 49ers, and promised that their cash injection would be used to "improve results on the pitch". To underline just how much that extra investment is needed, Leeds United received £6.8M for finishing thirteenth in the Championship in 2017/18 and our 20 televised matches earned us a mere £914,000 - a total of £7.7M. In contrast, the three clubs that were relegated from the Premiership last season - West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Swansea - received about £100M from the Premier League and will each get a parachute payment of £42M this season. Radrizzani is a rich man, but doesn't possess the kind of wealth that would allow us to compete in the transfer market with these clubs (the stark reality is that about half the teams currently in the Championship can outspend us).... Not surprisingly, Paul Heckingbottom was sacked at the beginning of June, after a fruitless 5 months as our head coach. However, his replacement was a big surprise. On 15th June, Leeds United announced the appointment of the vastly experienced Marcelo Bielsa, who has previously enjoyed success as head coach of the Argentina and Chile national teams, as well as at club level with the likes of Newell's Old Boys, Athletic Bilbao and Marseille. When you think of the never ending conveyor belt of non-entities that we've hired and fired every few months since our exit from the Premiership all those years ago, it's incredible that we've managed to make such a high profile appointment. Bielsa officially took up his role on 25th June and immediately made sweeping changes to the coaching staff, bringing in his own assistants as well as translator Salim Lamrani (Bielsa doesn't speak English). As soon as last season ended, social media was awash with rumours about Leeds signing any number of players who in reality were way out of our reach. It took a long time for any incoming transfer activity to materialise, and there have been many more departures than arrivals over the summer. Matthew Pennington and Pierre-Michel Lasogga returned to their clubs after their loan spells came to an end. Madger Gomes, Felix Wiedwald, Andy Lonergan, Marcus Antonsson, Luke Murphy and Ronaldo Vieira have all left on a permanent basis (the latter joined Sampdoria for a fee of around £7M), and Lewie Coyle, Pawel Cibicki, Jay-Roy Grot, Tyler Denton, Paudie O’Connor, Mallik Wilks and Hadi Sacko have all been sent out on loan. Several other senior players - Vurnon Anita, Eunan O’Kane, Caleb Ekuban, Ouasim Bouy and Yosuke Ideguchi - are still at the club even though they've been told that they're surplus to requirements. On 30th June, Chelsea midfielder Lewis Baker became Leeds United's first signing of the summer transfer window on a season-long loan. Four more players arrived in July - goalkeeper Jamal Blackman (also from Chelsea on a season-long loan), left-back Barry Douglas (a permanent signing from Wolverhampton Wanderers), midfielder Jack Harrison (a season-long loan from Manchester City) and striker Patrick Bamford (signed from Middlesbrough for £7M - the most we've spent on a player since our Premiership days). Our squad was also boosted by the return of Mateusz Klich, who was written off and loaned out last season, but featured prominently in our pre-season games. Tyler Roberts is also finally available after recovering from an injury sustained in training almost immediately after signing for Leeds in January. The new season began with a home fixture against promotion favourites Stoke City - a team that's been on the Premiership gravy train for the last decade and has a squad that, on paper, is infinitely superior to ours. The Leeds team included only one of the new signings - Barry Douglas - and lined up in a 4-1-4-1 formation with Kalvin Phillips playing in a new role in front of the back four, which included Gaetano Berardi also in a new role at centre-back. Klich started in midfield because Adam Forshaw was injured and Roofe was preferred to Bamford up front. Bielsa announced before the game that Bailey Peacock-Farrell would be his first-choice goalkeeper.... To say we surprised Stoke with Bielsa's brand of high tempo, high pressure pass and move football would be an understatement. Leeds ended up winning the game 3-1, with goals from Klich, Pablo Hernandez and Liam Cooper (Stoke's goal was a dodgy penalty that should never have been awarded). It was a fantastic start and a magnificent performance that the same players would not have been capable of last season.... We continued the momentum with an even more impressive 4-1 victory over Derby County away from home. A much-changed Leeds line-up then beat Bolton Wanderers 2-1 in the first round of the Carabao Cup, and we've been drawn against Preston North End in the next round. Rotherham came to Elland Road aiming to contain us, kept everyone behind the ball and wasted as much time as possible right from the start. Bielsa began the game with the same players that had dispatched Stoke and Derby. We dominated possession throughout but found it difficult to break Rotherham down in the first half. Although our passing is way better than last season, we did still make the odd mistake that could have been costly - including a suicidal ball from Cooper across his own area to Peacock-Farrell, which was easily intercepted by a Rotherham player who would have scored but for a brilliant block by our young goalkeeper, who looked very assured and fully deserved his clean sheet. A long range shot from Rotherham also hit the post. At the other end Ayling, Klich and Berardi all came close for Leeds.... United began the second half very much on the front foot and were noticeably quicker about getting the ball upfield. Ayling soon put Leeds ahead with a diving header from a Douglas corner, following up efforts from Roofe and Cooper. There was some debate about whether the ball had crossed the line before being cleared by a Rotherham defender (who appeared to use his hand) but after several seconds of deliberation the ref pointed to the centre circle - thumbs up for goal line technology! After that it was a much more open game in which we created several goal-scoring chances but had to settle for only one more goal, which came in the 68th minute. Some lovely passing at the edge of our area led to Phillips launching a long ball over the top which was picked up by Roofe, who beat a defender and finished powerfully from a tight angle. In summary, another excellent performance - the players look 100% fitter than last season, their work rate on and off the ball was impressive and they all seemed much more comfortable on the ball. Roofe is starting to look like the finished article as a striker, with great support from Samuel Saiz, Gjanni Alioski, Hernandez and Klich (who has been a revelation). Berardi and Phillips also seem to have grown as players in their new roles. I don't want to get carried away, given that we also started last season very well before sliding down to our usual position in mid-table, but the Bielsa era already looks like it could be very exciting. In 2019 Leeds United FC celebrates its centenary, and it would be awesome to finally get back to the top flight in our 100th year. However, there's a long way to go and - as we're talking about LUFC - plenty of opportunity for things to go wrong between now and the end of the season...

Tom Morello
Tumblr media
Former RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello was not content just to stick with post-millennium big guns AUDIOSLAVE, extracurricular activities came by way of protest-folk alter-ego, The NIGHTWATCHMAN. In action briefly in 2003 for shows around California coffeehouses, singer-songwriter Tom (born Thomas Baptiste Morello, May 30, 1964, New York, NY, but raised by his mother in Libertyville, Illinois) – the nephew of former first Kenyan president, Jomo Kenyatta – subsequently performed alongside “awareness campaigners” BILLY BRAGG, STEVE EARLE and The Coup’s Boots Riley. From these small acorns of political activity came the much-lauded “Axis Of Justice – Concert Series Volume 1” (2004), a various artists record with Tom as executive producer, session back-up and the man behind The NIGHTWATCHMAN on Union Song’ andUntil The End’. A self-taught guitarist with a penchant for hard-rock, the Harvard University graduate (garnering a degree in political science), had promised much when he hooked up with LOCK UP; their sole funk-metal contribution for Geffen Records: “Something Bitchin’ This Way Comes” (1989) did little to change the shape of the music biz – that came with his next project, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE. For nigh-on a decade between 1991 and 2000, Tom and his rap-rock posse realigned metal music’s myriad of molten miasma, incorporating hip hop, thrash and punk in one big incendiary conglomeration; post-RATM supergroup AUDIOSLAVE were, in effect, singer CHRIS CORNELL on a mission to re-vamp his halcyon days in SOUNDGARDEN. The NIGHTWATCHMAN, however, had the opposite effect when Tom propelled his political folk set, ONE MAN REVOLUTION (2007) {*7}; AUDIOSLAVE had just been put to bed. Without much representation from the media, word-of-mouth led to the set bubbling outside the Top 100, while skeletal SPRINGSTEEN/CASH/COHEN-esque tracks The Road I Must Travel’,Battle Hymns’ and `Let The Freedom Ring’, kept the uninitiated informed. Subsequently re-billed as TOM MORELLO: THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, his second Brendan O’Brien-produced set appeared in 2008: THE FABLED CITY {*7}. Augmented by vocalists SHOOTER JENNINGS (son of Waylon) on The Iron Wheel’ and SYSTEM OF A DOWN’s Serj Tankian forLazarus On Down’, Tom’s songs represented something of a past and present touch in regards to music genres. Alt-punk/country or political-folk, one could find elements of The POGUES in the sing-a-long Saint Isabelle’ and The CLASH onThe Lights Are On In Spidertown’. An enjoyable rush. Putting protagonist politics to one side and opting to get into his “revolutionary party jam” mode, via his eponymous Top 40 entry, STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB (2009) {*6}, Tom and his good buddy Boots Riley, together, crafted something akin to the bombastic RATM; example The Squeeze’. Riley’s funky rap-rock injection and drumming from Stanton Moore, gave the outfit its identity, although finding resolution through revolution inFight! Smash! Win!’, Clap For The Killers’ and100 Little Curses’, were hardly going to put the world to rights. Enthused by bloody protests all around the world, America’s answer to Che Guevara TOM MORELLO and The NIGHTWATCHMAN were back in circulation on two counts in 2011, the pro-Labor Unity Fund mini-set, UNION TOWN {5} and WORLD WIDE REBEL SONGS {7}. While one could sample the delicacies of the man’s re-interpretations of rallying trad-folk songs such as Which Side Are You On?’,This Land Is Your Land’, Solidarity Forever’ andI Dreamed I Saw Joe Hill Last Night’ on the former, the latter showcased MORELLO’s modern-day manifestos on Black Spartacus Heart Attack Machine’, the quieterSave The Hammer For Me’ (co-penned and performed with BEN HARPER), the provocative JOHN LURIE-esque Facing Mount Kenya’ andStray Bullets’. Taking a break from his surprise tenure with BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & THE E STREET BAND (from 2008-2015), Tom decided to reunite with old muckers Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk to instigate rap-rock supergroup, PROPHETS OF RAGE, alongside Chuck D and DJ Lord (of PUBLIC ENEMY) and B Real (of CYPRESS HILL). On paper the confrontational concept should’ve swept up new blood still lurking within the genre, however, a mis-timed eponymous set in summer 2017 left critics lambasting its rather retrograde representation. While TOM MORELLO contemplated the possibilities of further PoR dispatches, October 2018 finally saw the funkiest guitarist on the planet divulge on his own a la album, THE ATLAS UNDERGROUND {*6}; sadly, it only reached #141. Weighed down by an OTT smorgasbord of guest spots and genre-bending, only the wah-wah guitar licks from the man himself saved the record from a worse fate than death-metal. The head-spinning Battle Sirens’ (featuring Aussies KNIFE PARTY), kick-started the set in fine fettle, though by the pop-rockEvery Step That I Take’ (with PORTUGAL THE MAN and Whethan) and the watered-down rap of We Don’t Need You’ (ft. Vic Mensa), the compass was sliding south; ditto for the Marcus Mumford-enhancedFind Another Way’. On the other hand, however, How Long’ (ft. Steve Aoki & Tim McIlrath) showed the spirit of the once-mighty RATM, and anchor pieceLead Poisoning’ united WU-TANG CLAN’s GZA and RZA with Herobust/Hayden Kramer. All ‘n’ all, the multi-collaborative nature of the record (`Rabbit’s Revenge’ the exception) blunted its potential. Source Read the full article

"James Addiction" Fantasy's Top 10 Punt Returners 2018
“James Addiction” Fantasy’s Top 10 Punt Returners 2018
Last week I ranked the top ten kickoff returners for the upcoming season, and this week I move on to the punt returners. For some teams the same player handles both, but for most they do not. In ranking a position like punt returner I have no choice but to draw from last season’s performances as we do with any position, but with returners the positional player is changing more often as coaches…

Titans Start Coaching Search
The Tennessee Titans became the 7th franchise this off-season to part ways with head coach Mike Mularkey. Owner Amy Adams Strunk gave him a strong vote of confidence just last week. Despite late-season speculation on coach Mike Mularkey’s job, after winning the wildcard game against the Kansas City Chiefs it appeared safe. In the NFL things are rarely as they appear.

Screen Legend Olivia de Havilland Dies at 104
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Olivia de Havilland, one of the last remaining actresses of Hollywood’s Golden Age and the last surviving star of Gone With the Wind, died July 26 of natural causes at her residence in Paris, where she lived for more than six decades, according to Variety. De Havilland was 104.
De Havilland turned 104 on July 1. She was the older sister of Joan Fontaine, who died in 2013 at 96. The two Academy Award-winning actresses were estranged for most of their lives. Olivia Mary de Havilland was born in Tokyo on July 1, 1916. Her parents, Walter de Havilland, an English professor, and actress Lilian Fontaine, were British. De Havilland and her sister grew up in Saratoga, California, with their mother. Her father married the family’s housekeeper and remained in Tokyo. Havilland’s first performance was in a school production of Alice in Wonderland.
She made her stage debut in Max Reinhardt’s production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Cast as an understudy for Gloria Stuart’s role of Hermia, she won the part when Stuart withdrew. Warner Bros. signed de Havilland after the play was produced at The Hollywood Bowl. The studio cast her in the 1935 film version of the play. Her most enduring screen appearances followed quickly.
De Havilland and Errol Flynn made eight movies together and are as bound to each other’s motion picture iconography as Hepburn and Tracy, Bogart and Bacall or Fred and Ginger, though they were never anything but professional. Their first pairing was the swashbuckling, star-making Captain Blood in 1935. De Havilland was 19 years old. They followed this with classics like The Adventures of Robin Hood, where she played Maid Marian, Raoul Walsh’s The Charge of the Light Brigade, and the Western film Dodge City (1939). De Havilland had her first top billing in director Archie Mayo’s 1937 comedy Call It a Day.
De Havilland was nominated for five Academy Awards in her career. The first was for her most remembered role, which was filmed at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. De Havilland played Melanie Hamilton Wilkes, Scarlett O’Hara’s sister-in-law in the Civil War period epic Gone with the Wind. De Havilland was nominated in the supporting actress category. The Oscar was won by co-star Hattie McDaniel, who played Mammy, the first African-American to win an Oscar. Gone with the Wind is currently under scrutiny over its racist portrayals, and was pulled from online streaming until a disclaimer could be added.
When de Havilland returned to Warner Bros., she was cast in The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex. Though it would again pair her in a supporting role with Flynn, the star of the movie was Bette Davis as the Queen. De Havilland played the queen’s lady-in-waiting. De Havilland began rejecting films and getting suspensions from Warner Bros. She did have a trio of hit films beginning with Raoul Walsh’s 1941 romantic comedy The Strawberry Blonde, which starred James Cagney.
De Havilland was nominated for her second best actress Oscar for the 1941 Paramount film Hold Back the Dawn, which starred Charles Boyer. She lost to her sister who won for her role in Alfred Hitchcock’s Suspicion (1941). When de Havilland’s seven-year contract expired, Warner Bros. added 25 weeks to it as a penalty for the roles she turned down. De Havilland sued and won in a landmark 1945 ruling which is known as the “de Havilland law.” The verdict freed de Havilland from her contract and ruled that actors would no longer be tied to specific studios.
Even though she initially worked to help the studios in the Communist witch hunt, De Havilland was called to testify before the House Committee on Un-American Activities in 1958 because of her liberal activism. More recently de Havilland sued the makers of the FX series Feud: Bette and Joan. Catherine Zeta-Jones played de Havilland. The suit claimed her depiction on the eight-part miniseries was illegally used.
De Havilland won her first Academy Award for her role in 1946’s To Each His Own. She won her second in 1949, for The Heiress. In between, she created a moving and wrenching portrayal of an inmate at a mental institution in the 1948 issue film The Snake Pit.
De Havilland moved to France in April 1953, at the invitation of the French government. In those years she acted in Terence Young’s period drama That Lady (1955), Not as a Stranger (1955), The Ambassador’s Daughter (1956). She also appeared in Michael Curtiz’s Western drama The Proud Rebel (1958). She played a middle-class American tourist in Guy Green’s 1962 film adaptation of Elizabeth Spencer’s novel Light in the Piazza, which was filmed in Florence and Rome, and starred with Rossano Brazzi.
Also in 1962, de Havilland played opposite Henry Fonda Garson Kanin’s stage play A Gift of Time at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre on Broadway. In 1964, de Havilland played in Walter Grauman’s psychological drama Lady in a Cage, and Robert Aldrich’s suspenseful cult classic Hush…Hush, Sweet Charlotte with Bette Davis. Her last feature film was The Fifth Musketeer (1979).
De Havilland moved to television in director Sam Peckinpah’s movie Noon Wine (1966) for ABC. She starred in her first television film, The Screaming Woman, in 1972. She also appeared in ABC’s miniseries Roots: The Next Generations (1979). She also appeared in the Agatha Christie television film Murder Is Easy (1982), The Royal Romance of Charles and Diana (1982), the ABC miniseries North and South, Book II (1986). She won a Golden Globe for her supporting role in the television film Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna (1986). Her most recent role was the 1988 television movie The Woman He Loved.
De Havilland received the National Medal of Arts on Nov. 17, 2008. At 101, she became the oldest woman to be appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2017.
De Havilland was married to author Marcus Goodrich. Their son Benjamin died of heart disease brought on by Hodgkin’s disease treatments. Goodrich died weeks after his son. She was married to journalist Peter Galante from 1955 to 1979. They had a daughter named Gisèle.

WELCOME TO NIGHT VALE is a twice-monthly podcast in the style of community updates for the small desert town of Night Vale, featuring local weather, news, announcements from the Sheriff's Secret Police, mysterious lights in the night sky, dark hooded figures with unknowable powers, and cultural events.
"With its uncanny blend of the macabre and the mundane, the news out of Night Vale sounds like what might occur if Stephen King or David Lynch was a guest producer at your local public radio station." - NY Times Turn on your radio and hide. Disclaimer: WTNV does not in anyway belong to me, it belongs to Joseph Fink and Jeffery Cranor. I made this book for people who need to follow along with words, would rather read then listen. Please support the podcast and the books, thank you!
