I've always wanted to ask you this, but who is your absolute favorite character ever? Like THE character of yours if you will!! You could even say an oc if they're your all time fave, I just wanna give you an excuse to gush about 'em!! 😄
Also..... HAPPY HOLIDAYS FRIEND 🥳
Sorry about replying so late! This question is a bit hard for me to find one answer for, but I finally did settle on one character. Also, happy belated holidays to you as well! :D
I'm going to put this all under the cut, because it's gonna get pretty long. Also I'll try to avoid any spoilers!
I must say that of all characters that I've been rotating in my brain over the years, one that I think about most often (that isn't one of my own) is Gundham Tanaka from Danganronpa. Quite the backstory for how I found out about this guy. It was basically favorite character at first sight with him. The very first time I ever saw him was back in the days when I used DeviantArt (around 2016-2017). I was browsing the "New" art tab and I came across a drawing that was really good (him sitting by a stream). I could tell right away by his design that he was from an anime or something. I thought he seemed interesting and decided to check the tags to see what he was from. I will say seeing a long untranslated name gave me some apprehension for looking into what "Danganronpa" was exactly (and if you're wondering apparently it means "Bullet Rebuttal"). I thought it was going to be a long anime series (I was half right; It's a long game series) so I decided not to look into it since I don't really have enough patience to watch a long show.
Not too long after (several months maybe) I tuned into one of TheCrayonQueen's art livestreams where she was drawing a print/poster design for the 2nd game in the series, which is the one he's from. I noticed him in the group and was like, "Oh hey, it's that guy again." Someone in chat asked what the series was, and it turns out it was a murder mystery visual novel. After I heard that I decided I'd look into the series. Later on I got on Steam, saw the games there, and decided to ask my dad to get me a Steam gift card and ended up buying the first two games. It took me a few years to get through them, and I did end up getting the 3rd main game and finishing that one was well, but throughout all three of the games, Gundham did end up being my favorite character of the whole series (and I doubt any of the characters from the spin-off game or anime would outrank him on my list judging by what I've heard/seen).
Finally onto him as a character! Despite being human like the rest of the cast (aside from the robotic talking stuffed animals that show up now and again), Gundham claims to be some evil being created by the union between an angel and a demon. The "Overlord of Ice" who will one day rule the world. His companions? The Four Dark Devas of Destruction, which are four hamsters who hang out in his scarf when they're not up to anything. That's to say, he's very dramatic and also a bit eccentric.
Despite his evil persona (and a few insults here and there), he does show hints of kindness throughout the game, especially later on. As well as this, despite a certain other popular character acting pretty irrational (to say the least) he still takes time to try and understand their motives, though he doesn't condone their actions. Despite being one of the most "crazy"/deluded characters, he's also one of the most rational and understanding, though he doesn't show the latter often. He tries not to show much care towards his fellow classmates (except for one) despite his actions saying the opposite (I would go into this but there are some spoilers). He also has a very clear soft spot for animals which is shown in both his extra dialogue and how he interacts with the Devas. Side note: Each character has a special "talent" and his is animal whispering.
Man this is a lot longer than I thought it would be, and I still have a lot of other things to say! Alright, speed round (and where I'll put a few things I relate to):
Something I never noticed until it was pointed out is that Gundham is the only character to not have any voicelines or dialogue (despite showing up on-screen) before you go around and interact with each character for introductions, which is around 10 minutes into the game give or take. This reminds me of myself in a way since I probably wouldn't talk to others unless they spoke to me first. I'd definitely listen and observe what was happening, but I wouldn't voice my thoughts unless asked.
Going to get into some of his backstory here. During his optional interactions, you get to find out that as a child he would fake having a sickness in order to get out of group work or avoid activities that involved physical contact with others. It's heavily implied that physical contact is uncomfortable for him, which, it also is for me, unless I'm used to the person and expect/engage first (hand on the shoulder, hug, whatever it is, even a poke can be very uncomfortable to me). If you get to the end of his optional interactions, he does hold the main character's hand for a moment, being the one to engage first (however it soon becomes a grip contest).
At one point he says he trusts animals more than humans because, "Anything that talks will betray you" (not a direct quote, but very similar). This, as well as describing one of his parents as a "demon" possibly indicates that someone close to him, possibly a parent, betrayed/hurt him in the past. Sadly, I can relate to this in a way, but instead of a parent, it was a supposed "best-friend." I won't get into here since it's a rant on it's own, but I will say she was actually my worst bully and it took me years after to realize it.
Another bit of backstory we get is that when he was a child his mother was not a very good cook. She would cry if he didn't eat her cooking, so to not upset her, he'd put up with it anyway. Because of this he claims to have poison running through him.
Going to get into some more speculation here, but going by what he says about his backstory, me, as well as several others, believe that he comes from a broken home. Most believe the "angel" parent to be his mother, who he does address and seems to show sympathy for, and the "demon" to be his father, who he never speaks about. He also doesn't speak of any siblings, so he seems to have been an only child.
Small trivia time!
The "scar" over his left eye is actually a tattoo, as stated in his character reference/concept art.
Despite wearing only one earring in game, he actually has both ears pierced, shown by the anime.
He always wears his scarf even if he's wearing a swimsuit (presumably so he can safely have the Devas with him).
The creators stated he as "Eighth-grade syndrome" which explains why he acts the way he does and believes he's a greater being than his classmates.
In his room in game, he has a rocking chair (good choice).
Unlike most other characters in the series, he only has one "beta design" that's been shown to the public.
Not really trivia, but during an important discussion in game, this one dude who's jealous of him threatened to put him and the Devas "six feet under" to which he responds by threatening to set the guy on fire and I find that interaction absolutely hilarious.
I feel like I'm forgetting something but it's almost 3am and this is long enough so I'm calling it here!
Also, if I had a nickel for each time I liked a male character from a Japanese game who's mysterious, associated with the color purple, eccentric, is my favorite from their respective game, has 2-toned hair, no eyebrows, wears a long coat, and has a name starting with the letter "G" I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird it happened twice! The other guy is Garry from the game Ib.
Anyway, thank you for the ask and I hope I gave a satisfying response! :D

"Sun and Rain"
Chapter 6
"The First Mission"
A "Bad Batch" fanfic!
Pairing: Hunter x fem OC, Echo (more best friend pairing)
A/N: I am SO not the best at writing battles, especially ones in the Star Wars universe 😅 So I've tried my best and it may be a little rushed, but I hope you all like it! Also, I know there's been a lot of people missing Crosshair in the show lately and I miss him, too, so I made him a bit more prominent in this chapter.
《 Chapter 5
》 Chapter 7

Explanation: The Bad Batch are on a mission back to Felucia and taking Kimber along with them for the first time. Will she help them succeed in taking the Separatist facility or will the pressures of battle get the best of her?
Tumblr media
"Hey Kimber, hold up!"
Echo's voice called after Kimber as she was turning a corner to head to the training facility. She stopped when she heard him and waited for him. As she watched him jogging to catch up, she realized for the first time that he had robotic legs like Rex had said that she hadn't noticed before. They were black like the rest of his armor, so they kind of blended in. She had only noticed his arm and the device on his head. Watching him now that she knew his full story hurt her heart. How she wanted to just stop and embrace him right then to tell him that she knew the truth and how sorry she was that he had to endure such horrors, but she knew she couldn't. At least, not yet.
"Hey Echo! Are you coming to give me a hand?" she asked.
He came up beside her and replied with a grin, "Yeah. I've only got one hand to give." Then he brought up his scomp arm and good-heartedly made it spin around.
A chuckle came out of her mouth, but she muffled it with her hand as she wasn't sure if she should actually laugh or not.
Echo noticed this and told her as he lowered his arm, "You can laugh, it's okay. I made the joke, so I wouldn't be offended."
"You're funny," she said to him as they resumed walking.
Later on, he then asked, "Are you sure about this, Kimber? I don't want you pushing yourself if you're not ready."
"I appreciate your concern, I really do, but I wouldn't have volunteered if I didn't think I was ready. I want to help you guys," she said back.
In that moment, they reached the training facility and made their way through to where the armory was.
"Kimber, I really don't think this is a good idea," Echo told her as they walked in.
She stopped, turned around to face him and stated in a firm yet still understanding voice, "Echo...I know you're feeling protective of me and I understand why now, but I need you to give me a chance. Tech said you guys need someone to help Crosshair and I'm exactly the kind of person who can do that. I've regained my strength, my physical health is a lot better, my skills have improved and Rex can attest to all of that. If you don't trust me, then at least trust him."
His eyes widened in surprise. "It's not that I don't trust you. It's just...I don't want you to get hurt again."
"If I do, then it's my own choice, but I want to do this. Now are you gonna help me find some armor or not?"
"So this is what she's really like," Echo thought to himself. "She's certainly feisty and spirited. No wonder Rex took a liking to her. No wonder we all did."
He let out a sigh of defeat. "I'll help you. You get your weapons and I'll find some extra supplies and the armor. I know of a spare set you can use."
She nodded. Before walking off, she asked in a calm, inviting tone, "Hey...can we talk more later?"
With a smile, he replied, "Absolutely."
Tumblr media
Some minutes later, the Bad Batch saw Echo returning to the hangar with Kimber next to him. Now, she was donned in white and black Clone armor with light blue accents and on the left side of the chest was painted on a red skull. Underneath her arm, she carried her helmet. She had two blasters on both hips and a sniper rifle strapped to her back along with a pack of supplies.
"I recognize that armor," commented Wrecker upon seeing her approach.
"That was the armor you wore when we went to Anaxes," stated Rex, looking at Echo.
"Wait, what? This was yours?" Kimber questioned, also turning to Echo.
He nodded. "I figured it would fit you better than regular, bulky Clone armor. It's a bit more...form-fitting."
Looking down at the armor she wore, Kimber then said nicely, "Well, I'm honored to wear it then."
Hunter stepped forward, looking up and down her form. "You certainly look like a soldier," he observed. Then his expression turned serious. "Are you absolutely sure you want to do this? You've still got a chance to back out now while you can."
She scoffed playfully. "And miss out on seeing the Bad Batch in action? Not a chance, Sergeant Hunter."
His head reared back a little, caught off guard at hearing her call him by his rank. For whatever reason, though...he actually kind of liked it.
He still wasn't keen on her coming and being put in danger, but it appeared that her mind was made up. There was no point in fighting it now.
"Oh, I like this woman!" exclaimed Wrecker excitedly, giving her a playful push on the arm.
"Well, all right then. Let's get on board," Hunter said to everyone, motioning with his head to the Marauder as he led the way.
Everyone started to follow him, but Crosshair approached Kimber as she walked. "Think you can keep up?" he asked.
"With the squad or with you, Crosshair?" she asked back, her eyebrows raised.
He shrugged. "Take your pick."
"I'm fairly certain I could keep up with everyone. As for you...." She smirked at him. "You've got an injured arm and I've been training all week...I think it's safe to say I've got the edge on you."
"Famous last words, sunshine," Crosshair told her smoothly.
"Sunshine?" Kimber repeated, taken aback at the name he used for her.
Crosshair simply smirked deviously at her, removed the toothpick from his mouth and flicked it away as he walked ahead of her.
"Oh, this is going to be interesting...and fun!" she thought before quickening her pace to catch up with the Clones.
Tumblr media
The Bad Batch, Captain Rex and Kimber left Coruscant shortly after that. Within a few minutes, they made the jump into hyperspace, which truly was a magical sight to Kimber. She hadn't left Tatooine in years, so she had forgotten the beauty and wonder that came with going into hyperspace.
They made the jump and after a couple of hours, Tech brought out a holoprojection of a building with two tall towers, one on each side, and guarded by a ground force of multiple kinds of Droids and showed it to her and Rex.
"This is the Separatist outpost we attempted to infiltrate on Felucia," he explained to them. "The towers on the sides are our biggest conundrum. They are armed with a handful of Droids and a turret at the top. Even one side is overwhelming for just one sniper." He cast a look over at Crosshair, who simply grimaced at him.
"Will it even be doable with two sharpshooters?" inquired Rex.
Tech swiped on the projection, causing the building to grow smaller and a cluster of giant leaves, bushes and trees appeared around it. "It should be. They will have adequate cover in the jungle surrounding it."
"The cover is rubbish on the ground," commented Crosshair.
"Would it be better up in those tall plants?" Kimber inquired, pointing to some towering, white plants that had wide, thick leaves like platforms that moved up the sides. "That way, we're higher and more out of sight."
"That is possible, but more risky," said Tech.
Hunter came back from the front of the ship where Echo was piloting. "Crosshair, do you think that would give you a better advantage?"
"I think it's worth the risk," Crosshair replied, giving Kimber a pleased look. "It would most likely prove better than last time."
"Do that, then," Hunter told them, looking between Crosshair and Kimber.
"What exactly was your plan last time? What went wrong, apart from Crosshair getting shot?" Kimber asked.
Wrecker answered, "We were going to wait to go in until after Crosshair took out the towers, so the plan didn't get very far."
Looking at Hunter, Kimber asked, "Hunter, may I offer a suggestion?"
He bowed his head and replied, "Please do."
She stepped forward to Tech's projection and pointed to the towers. "Both towers are on either side of the facility. If Crosshair and I each took one side, that would possibly speed things up. However, I don't think it would be logical for the rest of you guys to wait until that happens."
"What are you suggesting, Kimber?" inquired Tech, adjusting his goggles over his curious eyes.
"If we were to start shooting the towers right away, all the enemy fire will be focused on us and you risk one of us being shot again," she went on. "I suggest that the rest of you cause a distraction that will draw their fire away from me and Crosshair."
"How would we do that?" asked Wrecker, puzzled.
She shrugged. "Rush the facility...or just improvise something. Be chaotic enough that the Droids will only have their focus on all of you. That way, Crosshair and I will only have to worry about the turrets."
Hunter brought a hand up to his chin. "Improvise, huh?" he wondered aloud.
"Be chaotic," repeated Rex, amused at her choice of words.
Then Crosshair snickered and fiddled briefly with his toothpick. "Not bad. She's already got us figured out and we haven't even reached the planet yet."
She simply grinned back at him.
"Funny you should mention that because we're approaching Felucia right now," they heard Echo call out from the front of the ship.
Just after he said that, the ship dropped out of hyperspace and they all found themselves coming up on a green planet with white swirling clouds. Within a few minutes, they passed into the planet's atmosphere and were met with a colorful, effervescent, lush jungle full of strange and interesting looking plant life.
The ship landed soon after and Hunter said to everyone after putting on his helmet, "All right, everyone. We've got one more shot at this. We'll go with Kimber's plan this time: we'll improvise a distraction to draw the enemy fire away from her and Crosshair while they handle the towers."
"Let's go! Let me at those Droids!" exclaimed Wrecker as he hoisted his heavy blaster up onto his shoulder.
Hunter faced Kimber and asked her, "Things are gonna get wild real fast, Kimber. You ready for this?"
"Oh, I'm ready...it's you who isn't ready for me," she replied as she grinned at him and put on her helmet.
It was then Hunter was grateful he already had his helmet on because it hid the slight blush that rose up on his face.
"Why did I say that...?" Kimber groaned inwardly, rolling her eyes at herself underneath her own helmet.
The ramp to the Marauder lowered down to the ground and they all exited the ship, drawing their weapons, donning their helmets and already being on the alert.
"This place is way different from Tatooine," Kimber observed out loud as she withdrew her rifle, amazed at the colorful jungle surrounding her.
"Don't get too excited. The jungle can be dangerous to a desert-dweller," stated Crosshair.
In response, she just shook her head and kept on following after the boys.
Covertly, the whole group moved their way through the jungle, ducking underneath the massive plants that surrounded them. Every so often, they could hear distant sounds of wildlife, but luckily, they never encountered any along the way.
Soon, the Separatist outpost was within view and Hunter gave them the signal to halt and then gestured to hide amongst the trees and the plants. Hunter, Rex, Echo and Kimber ducked to the right while Crosshair, Wrecker and Tech hid to the left.
"All right, Crosshair and Kimber, get yourselves into position," Hunter ordered in a quiet voice over their helmet comms. "Wait until we come out and draw their fire to take down the towers."
Kimber gave a nod and Crosshair responded, "No problem."
With that, the two of them moved out, Kimber to the right and Crosshair to the left. They stealthily made their way to their own designated white tree-like plants with the platform leaves and started to climb, keeping as much out of sight of the ground force as possible. They each jumped up, grabbed the edge of the thick leaves, hoisted themselves up and repeated the process until they were more than halfway up.
As she put her back against the core of the tree, Kimber heard Crosshair report over comms, "I'm in position."
She activated the comm in her helmet and replied, "Ready when you guys are."
A few seconds later, she heard Wrecker's loud voice in the air, shouting, "Come here, clankers! It's play time!" Right after that, she could hear and see blaster fire as Wrecker came charging out towards the Droids from within the trees.
"He's an eager one," she commented aloud.
"You have no idea," Crosshair droned in reply over the comm.
In tow came the rest of the crew, firing their blasters at the Droids on the ground. Echo ran wide and started firing up at the Droids on the left tower. Wrecker full on tackled a couple of battle Droids to the ground and began punching them. Tech was throwing a couple detonators out in the throng while Rex and Hunter were making their way through, Rex blasting Droids with a blaster and Hunter using a vibroblade.
"Now that, I've never seen before," thought Kimber as she watched Hunter fight the Droids with his blade. He was so swift, precise and fluid in his movements, it was almost mesmerizing.
Crosshair's voice broke her thoughts as she heard him say, "The turrets are powering up."
Kimber peeked around the edge of the tree and also noticed that the Droids on the tower were firing down at the others just as the entrance to the facility on the ground opened up and another squad of Droids were coming out.
"You've got a second wave incoming, boys," she informed the Clones over comms. "We'll take out the Droids on the tower while they're occupied."
"Copy that," she heard Rex respond.
Then she stepped out, raised her rifle and took a shot at one of the Droids firing down at the Clones. The shot hit it directly in the head and it dropped to the floor. She took a second shot at the closest one and it too dropped.
Seeing Kimber was now firing at the Droids on her side, Crosshair followed suit and began firing his own rifle at the tower in front of him. As he took his shots, he glanced back over his shoulder at Kimber and watched her as she continued fighting. She was straight and immovable in her form and her shots were as accurate as his were. There was no sign of fear or distress in her; she was taking out the Droids immaculately.
"Very impressive," he thought before returning to blasting his own set of Droids.
Kimber got the Droids taken care of on her side rather quickly, but the turret was almost done being powered up and was moving into position towards her. She fired at the turret, but the damage seemed to have no effect on it. How was she going to take it out?
"Kimber, watch out!" cried Tech's voice.
To make matters worse, some of the Droids that came out of the facility spotted her up in the trees and were now firing at her, which took her by surprise. A couple shots narrowly missed her by an inch and she cried out, stumbling backwards into the base of the tree. Some of the shots burst through the bottom of the leaf platform she stood on and were weakening it. More blasts came up from beneath right by where she stood and she flinched to get out of the way.
Kimber hadn't ever been shot at like this before and she was beginning to panic. If she tried to fire back, she'd put herself out in the open and she'd definitely be shot, but if she stayed there, it would only get worse and she'd be in more trouble. What was she going to do?
The giant platform she stood on shifted down, startling her. She realized all the blaster fire was damaging its structural integrity and was now beginning to hang by what was left. There was a crack and it shifted down once more. Kimber yelled out in alarm.
"Kimber!" she heard Hunter cry with worry.
Crosshair heard her distressed call, too, and looked in her direction. He got the feeling things had changed for her when she started getting shot at and figured she'd never experienced that before. Now, instead of the confident sniper, he saw a panicked soldier caught between a rock and a hard place.
He had to act fast. The turret in front of him was nearly on him. There was no way he could get down from the tree and over to her in time and the others were too occupied with the other Droids to do anything before either the turret fired on her or the platform would give way with her on it.
So he aimed his rifle.
There was a metallic thud and, to Kimber's horror, she looked up to see the turret was now facing her and was about to fire.
"Kimber, no!" shouted Echo.
"Oh no!" she gasped.
"Heads up, sunshine."
Her head flipped to her left to see a single shot flying her way from where Crosshair was. It hit where the giant leaf was connected to the core of the tree, causing it to split off completely, and the next thing she knew, she was falling. Just as she dropped, the turret fired and hit the area of the tree right above her where she had just been. She hit the next giant leaf below, but her momentum caused her to bounce and roll right off, falling even further down. Seconds later, she hit the ground hard, getting the wind knocked out of her a bit, and she let out a grunt of pain. In her dazed state, she heard Echo's voice calling out, "I've got her! Go!" Then she felt him come up beside her and could faintly hear him saying her name. Right after that, there was the sound of a turret firing and something exploding, which woke her right up. Her head shot up in time to see a blast in the trees...right where Crosshair had been.
"Crosshair!" she and Echo both yelled.
Kimber got up to her feet and cried, "Echo, cover me!" Without waiting for a response, she took off running for the tree. She had to find Crosshair and make sure he was okay. If he had been lost saving her life because she had panicked, she would never forgive herself. She got to the base of the tree he had been in and looked around for any signs of his body. There were none to be found.
"Crosshair? Crosshair!" she shouted, continuing to look around. "No, no, no, this can't be happening. Where is he? Crosshair, where are you? This was all my fault!"
"You looking for me?"
The familiar, silver-tongued voice of Crosshair spoke behind her. She whirled around to find him casually lounging against the base of the tree.
"How touching," he stated and she could practically hear the smirk underneath his helmet.
"How did you...?" she asked, dumbfounded.
"After I shot at you, I jumped, of course," he explained.
She released a heavy sigh of relief. "You...you saved my life. Thank you, Crosshair."
"Don't mention it, sunshine."
Hearing him use that name again, Kimber was about to ask him about it, but then suddenly, her head grew heavy, her body felt weak, her strength gave out and she fell limp.
Crosshair was quick to catch her and she heard him say calmly to her, "Whoa, easy there. You did good today, soldier."
Then everything went black.

Hades: Nah, you aren't.
Hades: You can be used as a bad example.
//
Oliver: Hey, can you hold this for me?
Chija: This is your hand...
Oliver: Yeah.
//
Venus: Look, let's just agree to say "I'm sorry" on the count of three.
Venus: One, two, three.
Venus:
May:
Venus: See, now I'm just disappointed in both of us.
//
Chija: Surgery is just stabbing someone to life.
Hades: Please never become a surgeon.
//
Osiris: You read my diary?!
Venus: At first, I didn't know it was your diary. I thought it was a very sad handwritten book.
//
Hades: You're smiling, did something good happen?
Osiris: I can't smile just because I feel like it?
Oliver: May tripped and fell in the parking lot.
//
August: Things have actually been going really well with Osiris. Our friendship is at a really good place.
August: Last week I said, "Did you know the weiner dog is neither a weiner nor a dog?" And instead of saying, "Shut up August," she said, "okay."
//
Random person: Excuse me, who is in charge here?
Oliver: Usually it's whoever yells the loudest.
//
May, to Osiris: I dare you to-
Chija: Osiris isn't allowed to accept dares.
Osiris: Apparently I have "no regard for my personal safety."
//
Oliver: I want someone to take me out.
Chija: Like on a date or with a gun?
Oliver: Surprise me.
//
Venus: You will machete through this!
Venus: *make it
Venus: Do not machete your way through this.
Osiris: Too late.
//
Oliver: *sharpens knife* We've got ways of making people talk.
Oliver: *cuts piece of cake*
May:... can I have some?
Oliver: Cake is for talkers.
//
Chija: *signs a legal documents with a glitter gel pen*
//
Osiris: Did Venus just tell me she loved me for the first time?
Hades: Yeah.
Osiris: And did I do finger guns back?
Hades: Yeah, you did.
//
Hades: I am at a loss for words!
Chija, telling Venus later: Despite being lost for words, Hades yelled at me for the next 45 minutes.
//
August: Do you miss the imagination of childhood?
Osiris: I never had one.
August: An imagination or a childhood?
//
Oliver: Time sensitive question, how flirt boy.
Chija: Throw rocks at he
Venus: Hot dog.
Osiris: Kill him.
Oliver: Thanks guys.

edie's pov.
"this is pretty good." peter says with a little smirk on his face. his lips and nose are all i can see as he sits on the couch, still wearing his mask.
he takes another bite of mac and cheese before looking in my direction and shooting me a big cheesy smile.
once he came back i had to explain to him that i did indeed burn my hand on the hot pot of water, fully knowing he wouldn't let me live it down. luckily for me, i'm not the only one who had done something worth making fun of.
"at least i can let myself back into the compound without having to knock." i rebuttal and stick my tongue out at him, "and peter, take you mask off, it's weird watching you eat that way, just a nose and mouth and ew." i end my complaint with a fake shudder.
with an eye roll, peter pulls his mask off his head and takes a spiteful bite of his food. i chuckle at his behavior and excuse myself to the kitchen to clean up.
trying my best to keep my blistered thumb out of contact with anything, cleaning takes me a lot longer than i want it to. i'm about to start the dishwasher when i realize peter still has his bowl in the living room.
"you'd think mr. stark would have a robot to clean the dishes instead of-" i stop my sentence short when im confronted with an empty room, no peter. his finished bowl lay there on the coffee table, with the cheesy fork thrown messily next to it. with a grimace, i pick up after the boy and finally go to finish things up.
it's not like peter to be so...there one minute and gone the next. he's always the one to stick around after all the fun has been had and just, be there. but for the past day, he wasn't. and i know i shouldn't worry about it, being here specifically is stressful, but the more i repeat it over and over again in my head- the more it starts to sound like a really lame excuse.
i let my feet lead me back to my room, hesitating only slightly when i pass peters closed door. it's late, no use in trying to talk to him now. he just needs rest. we both do.
with that thought in mind, i make my way into my room, shutting the door behind me with a soft click. i'm already in pajamas, as i wasn't the one who went on patrol tonight.
my room is alarmingly blank. white walls, no pictures, no personality. at one point i plan to decorate it, and hopefully by then, peter will be comfortable enough to help me. a smile grazes my face when i finally sit down on the edge of my bed, it's comfortable, and i silently thank tony for providing the best for peter and i while we stay here.
i peer underneath the bed frame and pull out the black bag that holds my most valuable belongings. i unzip the top and pull out my utility belt, along with all my knives. i give an amused sigh as i think about people's reactions if they were to ever find these. i'll admit, i may have a few too many knives in my possession, but each one comes in handy every time i go out. and let's be real, you can't expect me to go around and pick up each knife i've thrown after every fight.
my ears perk up when a small creak comes from the other side of my bedroom door. the light in the hallway casts a shadow of two feet i can barely see through the crack along the floor. with my breath hitched in my throat, i slowly stand up to not make any noise.
i know the shadow behind the door is peter. and as i tiptoe my way over to the door, i keep a hold of the breath in my throat, so afraid to scare him away. he keeps moving his weight between his feet, causing the hardwood floors to creak with every adjustment. i move one hand to rest against the doorknob, the other barely skimming the white wood of the door. i let go of the air i’m holding and the movement on the other side halts.
i stop too, wanting him to knock or simply open the door. it has only been a day and the lack of interaction from peter is enough to pull on my heartstrings. much to my disappointment, his footsteps retreat back down the hallway and away from me for the umpteenth time today. leaving me to rest my forehead gently against the cold surface of the door.
peter's pov.
no part of me really wanted to leave edie after i finished my food. i wanted to stay and watch movies and tell her about my first night out. i wanted to see if her thumb really was okay. then the nagging part of my brain kicked in and suddenly i couldn't stand the idea of her walking back in the room, seeing me looking like the biggest idiot still in my goddamn suit.
it's small things like that that keep me from knocking on her door too.
i somehow find myself standing in front of her bedroom door. the time is almost past midnight and my hands are sweaty and oh my god there's a stain on my sweatpants and my hair probably looks a mess and i can't do this. i can't do this. what am i doing?
and then i know she's there. on the other side of the door, just waiting. waiting for me to do something, anything. i want to. i want to walk in and flop on her bed and just talk and smile and laugh at her bad jokes, but then she lets out a sigh. a sigh that tells me she's upset, or lonely. so i raise my hand to knock.
and i don't do it. i walk back to my room and close the door behind me.
-
a few awkward days into the future, i'm again- in my room. the past days rushed by as edie and i remained in our separate corners and patrolled when it was our turn, both afraid to make any sort of move, or at least, i was. small greetings in the hallway, eating dinner together in silence, and secret glances cast across the room were really all the contact we had recently. that was, until now.
she snuck up on me like a wild cat- stealth and agility giving her the upper hand as i made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich in the kitchen. just as i'm about to take my first bite, the entire thing is knocked out of my hand and onto the ground.
i snap my head up to see edie in her black suit, looking smug and proud of herself.
"no time for food, peter, we gotta train." she chirps at me with a smile that she tries her best to hide. i look between her and my ruined sandwich splayed across the floor, clear annoyance taking over my features. she chooses to ignore that, i guess.
"get that spidey suit on. meet you on the mat in five minutes," she calls out as she turns and runs for the training room. i let my eyes follow her figure until she's out of sight, only then do i turn to the mess on the ground and clean it up as fast as i can. i get ready faster than ever, eager to see what she has in store.
i slow down a few feet outside the door from my fast pace, not wanting her to think i'm too excited after she destroyed my afternoon snack. when i get to the room, she's nowhere in sight. looking back now, i don't know why i didn't see it coming.
with a soft grunt, she attacks me from behind and we both tumble to the ground, i'm trapped underneath her on my stomach as she holds one of my arms behind my back.
"gotcha." she whispers in my ear. i almost pass out right there from embarrassment, but i'd be lying if i said i'm not in the mood for some revenge for my sandwich.
i raise my free hand above my head and shoot a web that reaches the ceiling, pulling myself out from under her and away from her reach. with a sly smile beneath my mask, i taunt her, "come and get me now, wolfie."
then she does something i didn't know was even an option. she raises her arm and points it to the ceiling, a hook shoots out of her suit and clamps onto the concrete next to my head. with that, she propels herself upwards and grabs me by the ankle, ultimately taking me down.
now i'm overwhelmed by how bad i'm being beaten. i'm spiderman, why am i struggling so hard right now?
"i came prepared, parker. don't think i didn't learn from last time." edie teases as she walks around me in a wide circle. finally coming to kneel in front of me, she continues, "i have a proposal for you," she pauses to tuck a piece of hair behind her ear, "we'll fight, one to one, no weapons or webs, just us. first one down for ten seconds is the loser."
suddenly wanting out of this situation due to utter embarrassment, i speak up, "well, damn, looks like i've been down longer than ten seconds, i must be the los-" she cuts me off.
"no no no, we'll wipe the slate. get up, mr. parker." she offers me a hand, which i reluctantly take, "and to make it interesting- if you win, i'll go on patrol for you tonight. and if i win," she pauses again, eyeing me up and down, "you have to tell me why you've had a stick up your ass this past week."
my eyes widen, i clear my throat and try to come up with a cover story in my head, "wh-what are you talking about? there is no stick up my-" she cuts me off. again.
"save it, peter. there is a piece of wood stuck up your ass and clearly, it's making you a grumpy boy. and hey, you only have to share if i win." she says it with a look that makes me swallow thickly, but i keep my facade up.
"alright then, let's do this."
with that, she unclasps the utility belt that hugs her waist and tosses it to the side, flinching a little at the harsh sound of sharp pangs of metal hitting the concrete. i can't just take my web shooters off, considering they were a part of my suit, but i pledge to her that i won't use them.
the fight is on when she begins circling the blue mat slowly. i follow in suit, raising my arms in a fighting position. in the moments leading up to the first move, i watch her figure waltz along the outskirts of the mat, her hips swaying naturally with each calculated step she takes. her eyes are trained on mine, or at least the expressive ones on my mask.
she charges at me with fire in her eyes, swinging two punches, one left and one right. i dodge both of them easily, simply stepping to each side as her fists fly past my head. edie huffs heavily and moves on to taking jabs at my stomach, only able to hit me once, but i'd be lying if i said it doesn't throw me off a little.
of course, with that moment of weakness, she ruthlessly grabs my arm and flings me over her shoulder, a move i'm growing to hate coming from her. once on the ground, she sits on top of me, thighs pinning down my arms on each side as she begins to count, "one, two, three..."
with a gruff grunt, i flip my legs up and around her neck, knocking her off of me and to the side as i scramble away from her. getting back onto my feet, i pivot around to avoid another angry punch that comes towards my skull. she throws one more, and i catch it in my hand, stopping her movement as she stares at me with shock.
i twist her arm behind her back and push her down on her knees, she lets out a yelp that hurts my heart, until she picks up one foot and jabs me in the leg, making me let out a yelp of my own. edie is instantly back on her feet and this time she goes for my legs again, lunging towards me and tackling me once again, "get ready to spill your guts, parker," she teases. "three, four, five..."
a horrible, mind-bending wash of nerves washes over me and as she gets closer to ten, the more energy i gather to get the girl off of me.
"seven, eight, nine..."
before she reaches ten, i mindlessly grab her by the neck and flip us over, slamming her back into the mat with more force than i realize at the time.
i immediately begin counting in my head as i hold her there with my hand, my arm shaking, breaths loud and heavy.
one, two, three...
her eyes are locked on me, she's wrapping her hands around mine.
four, five, six...
she's clawing at my hands, her eyes desperate and...
seven, eight, nine...
she's scared.
i fling myself off of her. my breathing still ragged and it hurts my lungs with every shaky inhale. i can't meet her eyes. not after they stare into mine with the only emotion i never wanted to see.
she's scared. of me. and suddenly i can't breathe. i collapse back onto the mat with a shallow thud, staring at the ceiling with a foggy haze clouding my vision. it's silent for a while, aside from the sound of our bodies struggling to fill our lungs with air.
"okay. i'm gonna head out. to patrol." edie's voice is soft and airy. and my heart is broken.
-
she left earlier than technically necessary. our patroling hours were from dusk til whenever it felt right to leave the city. she had been gone for a couple of hours and the sun was just now setting.
after what happened, i laid on the mat in the training room for a long time, not able to move as i processed the previous events. eventually, i got up. with sluggish movements, i arrived in my room and successfully stumbled out of my suit and into my bed. that's what i'm doing now. laying in bed and listening to soft music play from my phone, hoping sleep will take over my body sooner rather than later.
i roll from my back onto my side to face the nightstand next to me. a small glimmer of light reflects off of a small piece of technology. my comm. with a sigh, i reach for it and nestle it in my ear before closing my eyes and slipping away.
"pete? peter, i need you to listen to me. please be listening." a small voice pleads in my head. i raise my hand and swipe at it, as if it's a fly buzzing in my ear.
"come on. let me know you're there." the voice sounds off again. this time i open my eyes and acknowledge the words and where they’re coming from. i shoot up in bed, now sitting straight up, wiping the sweat away from my brow.
"edie? i'm here, e." i mumble, not trying to hide the worry in my voice.
she lets out a breath, "oh, oh good. peter i need you to meet me at the back door, the one in the garage."
i nod and spring out of bed, wasting no time to do what she's asked. "pete?" she whispers. it's so soft and so frail in my ear. i gulp nervously at the sound of it.
"i'm coming, hun. almost there." i whisper back as i round the staircase that leads down to the garage. there, through the glass doors, edie stands. more like leans against the clear surface with a weary smile on her face. i watch as she raises her thumb to the finger pad and the doors slide open. i watch as she takes a few slow steps to meet me. i watch her hands as they slide down her left side, coming back up, covered in blood.
and i catch her as she falls forwards, right into my arms.
