Olin Anvilcontrolled, age eleven
went back to dwarf fortress classic last night and was rewarded, as i so often am by this game, with a truly vivid portrait of a character (long story under the cut, blood and violence as is typical for df)
Olin Anvilcontrolled arrived at the age of eleven at the Fortress of Savefountain with her mother (Ubbul) and her new stepfather (Sarvesh). Since she was so close to the dwarven age of adulthood, I kept an eye on her to see what kind of skills she developed and what kind of career she'd be suited to. While the rest of her family settled in though, Ubbul soon giving birth to Olin's half-brother, Oddom, Olin had more trouble adjusting. Rather than playing in the corridors of the residential wing or in the temples or taverns with other children, she preferred to follow the web-gatherers and cave-fishers down the long, slippery passage to the under cavern where she would play, alone, with her little glass boat.
The cavern is not exactly the world's most supervised playplace, and I was horrified the first time I received the "A dwarf child has cancelled "play with toy boat: interrupted by Giant Bat" alert. But I needn't have worried. With a value system that prioritised martial strength, power over others, force of will, and - literally, textually - "sadism", eleven-year-old Olin beat the shit out of that huge beast with her bare hands until her mother, a hunter, arrived to put the bloodied and broken thing out of its misery. Being unarmed, untrained and not yet old enough to see a marvel movie unaccompanied, Olin wasn't able to kill it herself, but she was able to hold her own enough to increase her fighting skill to Adequate.
And then to Skilled, when a few days later another Giant Bat came at her.
And then to Proficient when the Olm man came.
Olin kicked so much ass in her one specific corner of the caverns - not too far from the floodgates that led back up to civilisation, not close enough that anyone would bother her on their way to work - she beat enough blood from the underbeasts to form a pool of blood for her to float her little boat in.
She continued to play there even after her stepfather died in those same caverns. Echospittles the Larval Deep of Boils, a Forgotten Beast scuttling in the form of an enormous spider, used its venom and webs to cut a huge swathe of vacancies into my military.
Olin and Sarvesh weren't close, but they had a positive relationship. After his death, she began to very frequently "feel love upon remembering gaining a sibling". I wondered if she could see her stepfather's face in that of her baby brother. I wondered how she felt about the absence of her biological father, Edem Copperdragon, now a position noble elsewhere due to his ceaseless contributions to the war against Otir Toothportal, Necromancer.
Despite her penchant for sadism and violence, Olin did not seem like a very cruel child to me. She highly disdained scheming (poking through Legends reveals that Edem was corrupted by enemy agents multiple times in her early childhood), and openly admired and was genuinely friendly with the two human Monster Hunters who defended her home. I began to understand her as someone who had only ever known a world of violence and war, and was trying to find her place within it. Her avoidance of other children and her determination to return to the same cavern corner and face whatever blind, mad animal was waiting there took on a very sad tone. That of a child on the cusp of adulthood seeking out pain, having mistaken it for glory.
I felt a sense of responsibility for her. Her life as it was seemed like a grand prelude, like she was someone whose narrative belonged in her late years, when she would be 120 years old, Legendary Fighter, Grand Master Leader, and all this was but her backstory. I was determined to ensure I could make her into someone she would want to be. As soon as she was old enough to receive labour orders, I'd put her in a squad of dwarves who would like her - I'd custom build a squad based solely around personalities, just so she wouldn't be a lone again. One of my dwarves was taken by a strange mood, and gifted the resulting legendary helmet to our site government. I earmarked it for Olin, as soon as she was old enough.
Mere weeks before she came of age, the fortress of Safefountain was laid to siege by the forces of Otir Toothportal, Necromancer.
Having been hounded by Forgotten Beasts from below, I had focused the majority of our defences on the cavern entrance, leaving our topside entrance unable to be sealed off entirely just yet. I ordered the floodgates to the caverns sealed nonetheless, hoping to save whoever was down there in the ponds and webs and Olin's little gorespot, while the rest of our dwarves - including Ubbul, with baby Oddom strapped to her back - held the undead at bay.
But as my military inevitably failed and the zombies began to swarm down the gullet of the increasingly poorly named Safefountain, I realised that sealing off the caverns had been in vain. By sheer coincidence, no one had been down there at the time. Not even Olin.
For the first time in her time at Safefountain, Olin was playing in the corridors of the residency wing. With the other children. She, 1-year-old Obok, 10-year-olds Lor and Lobam, 5-year-old Asmel, and Mayor Tosid were the last dwarves left alive.
As the undead surrounded them and the strength of Safefountain was broken, Olin cried out,
"Our time in the Dimensions of Prophecy is so brief!... This does not frighten me."

There is 58 years between the first plane flight, and a human going to space.
Technological advancements happen very quickly, so yeah that argument is mute. Even if you believe Santos Dumant was the first person to do it, that's still 63 years between his flight and a human going to space.
Also I'm not sure in which universe is democracy a widely American concept.
Even before Ancient Greece in the Vajjika Republic in 6th century bce India is widely considered to be the first example of a democratic Republic.
Also democracy is literally only in Republic City, which didn't have real democracy until the end of Book 1, and the earth kingdom who was suffering under a bad case of fascism. And Queen Hou-Ting, what ever godamm name was, sucked dick and was a terrible ruler.
The water tribes kept their chiefs, they just get to vote on it. The northern water tribe chiefdom is hereditary. The fire nation kept their firelord
Korra did not spread democracy everywhere, unlike where you claim they forced it.
Poor earth kingdom citizens, they must miss being a selfish queen who never did anything to help them, and let theives go wild, and then the facist dictator, who put people into concentration camps.
In HISTORY leaps in technology have happened fast. In a STORY you need to be careful not to make the whole thing feel like it's set in a different universe - and when we go from rudimentary industrialization, some of which is openly treated as a PROBLEM by the original's shows narrative because nature's worth and it's key role in keeping balance are a central theme in several episodes, all the way to Ford 1s everywhere, big ass factories that would obviously cause a lot of polution, lightningbending going from rare to something common that is used to give everyone electricity, all because the writers wanted to change the aesthetic from Meiji Era Japan to Prohibition Era New York, I'm gonna say that shit went a bit too far.
I didn't say americans invented democracy, I'm saying it's very common for american writers to push their own way of life as the only correct one, because there's literally over a century of the government spreading propaganda about "The american dream" and "the american way of life" to EVERYONE, including people in the USA, where the writers were raised - which is why the city that is supposed to represent the all four nations suddenly goes from "Very obviously east asian" to "Very obviously USA stuff that was never present in the old show." The character of Korra isn't running around saying "The US is inherently better", but the show very much is by making the symbol of balance and harmony so PAINFULLY american.
Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Bryke or anyone involved in the making of Korra was actively trying to make propaganda, they were just influenced by it and repeated some of it without even realizing it - and so did you with the bizarre leap in logic of "If you criticize the way americans, knowingly and unknowingly, tend to push their way of life as the default/superior one in stories, that means you think the fascist villain had a point/is not that bad"
If you like Korra as a show, including the whole concept of Republic City, that's fine. It's none of my business. But as someone who literally had to study American propaganda pieces and the long lasting influence it had in media, there is NOTHING you or anyone can say to me that will convince me that is not a reflex of propaganda that breaks the world-building that had been very coherent and consistent in the previous show. Either deal with that, or block the tags/my blog.

WIP Questionnare (tag game)
Tagged by @buffythevampirelover ^^ using A Chant for Blood to answer these! Answering them all out of boredom, but you can answer as many as you like ^^
What was the first part of your wip that you created? ...the first chapter 😅 but tbf the very first scene has changed drastically since then! it was a bit of a 'main character wakes up' cliche so I decided like right after writing chapter 3 it would be changed after the first draft was done.
If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be? oo! Possibly Nothing Else Matters by Apocalyptica. Prob my fave one out of the story's playlist.
Who are your favorite characters you've made? Why? Probably the makoth characters, like Gunilde and Oddvar. and idk 🤷 ive had a soft spot for orcish characters lately, makoth included. Can't forget Karliah, too! She's been with me since middle school.
What other pieces of media do you think would share a fanbase for your story? oooh. i dont know. possibly game of thrones? or any gothic fantasy novel. I actually don't read that much victorian fantasy, so I don't know many. However, Snow White and the Huntsman did influence me a lot, so if that movie has a fanbase I suppose it counts.
What has been your biggest struggle while writing? Creating the magic systems. It's like chemistry for me; my brain just can't work it out. the main magic system, which i have just called Spellwork, feels so underdeveloped, but the other magic system for the Makoth, Skvæla, is a little bit more fleshed out. At some point I have to sit down one day and work the whole Spellwork thing out before I lose my mind 🥲
Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them! There is! Maugr are native to Reyoarfell, and only used by the Makoth. Wolf-like beasts the size of polar bears, with thick fur and short legs to combat the cold climate of Reyoarfell. The makoth only use them for travel or to carry/pull heavy things, they are not suited for combat or racing. These animals are important to them, and are not allowed to be owned by anybody outside of the country.
How do your characters get around?(ex: trains, horses, cars, dragons, etc.) Mostly by horseback or carriage, as trains haven't been invented yet. But also, the first book is contained in one city so they don't need anything else to travel long distance. However! Portals to travel between countries do exist, but they're rare and expensive to use.
What part of your wip are you working on? I'm currently editing the early chapters, getting it ready to look for beta readers. Adding more scenery and sensory descriptions, changing a few things about the characters, trying to find a way to make the plot twists less obvious before they're revealed 😅
What aspects (tropes, maybe?) of your wip do you think will draw people in? Hmm. victorian fantasy, knight lady, eldritch being, vampiric lizard man, body horror, corruption arc, and monster hunting are the ones I can thing of off the top of my head 😅
What are your hopes for your wip? That there's people out there that would at least enjoy reading my novel, and love the characters as much as I do :)
Open tag to whoever wants to join! No pressure ^^

So, as the description says, this is where I'll be posting random musings about the world of Descendants without the Disney glamour (a bit will sometimes slip in, but for the most part this is intended to be a bit grittier).
I'll mostly be focusing on the Isle of the Lost, especially the original four VKs.
Some general things to keep in mind:
I will be hinting at/outright bringing up themes of child abuse and other potential triggers. I'll do my best to apply the appropriate trigger warnings, but I'm not 100% fluent in the Tumblr tag system. If I miss one or if there's a more well-recognised tag (e.g. "tw abuse" instead of just "abuse") let me know and I'll edit the post as necessary.
All of the posts on this blog are pure speculation/random musings, nothing I post here will be 100% canon-accurate.
I haven't read the books or watched the animated series, all of this is based on the three movies.
On that note, if you recognise a character that showed up in the books or animated series that DID NOT make an appearance in the movies, then their characterisation might be a bit off (I will do my best to keep them as in-character as possible, but some things might slip).
There's also a chance I'll be making my own VK or AK characters for the sake of worldbuilding. If you see an OC with parents who have been shown to have kids in some variation of Descendants media then just know I'm not trying to replace canon characters. I probably just haven't realised that a character already exists.
It's pretty rare that I write for OCs anyway, but I might if I think it'll help cover aspects that the movies didn't really delve into.
I might take requests, so feel free to drop asks but do keep in mind:
I do not intend to bash any of the pre-existing VKs or AKs. Some of these musings will be trying to look into the thought-process behind some actions, so some characters might come off looking worse as a result. But that is NOT done with the intention of bashing, so if you think you've found a fellow hater of [insert character name here] you're probably wrong.
I might occasionally do AU pieces, but that's not the main purpose of this blog so don't expect them too often.
As I said, most of the posts will be focusing on the Isle of the Lost and/or the original four VKs. I will consider requests about other characters, but I'm more likely to think about concepts revolving around those four.
I might write a few ship pieces, but that's not the main focus of the blog so don't expect them too often.
Side note to the above, I WILL NOT be writing x reader at all.
I might add a few things to this post in the future, but I think that just about covers it.

9 People I'd Like to Know Better
Tagged by @bananarose! Thanks a ton!
Last Song Listened To: Roundabout by Yes One of so many songs I have on my default playlist! Just happened to be the one I ended work on.
Currently Watching: Honestly? Nothing I'm really all that actively invested in at the moment. I did just get through Brave Bang Bravern, though so I guess I'll count that!
Sweet/Savory/Spicy?: Mostly savory! I love spicy food but it rarely loves me back, and I've never been much of a sweets person myself.
Relationship Status: Partnered!
Current Obsession: Honestly my brain is too broken to really list most things as my 'current' obsession, because it flipflops multiple times a day. XIV usually rises to the top of that list, but as close friends can attest I've gone on at least two rants today about themes in different pieces of media. Tagging: YOU, READER. I think almost everyone I'm mutes with has done this already? If you haven't and I've misremembered, have at thee please consider this your opportunity!

HIII KITTY!!! I HOPE YOU ARE HAVING A GREAT DAY OR NIGHT OR WHATEVER TIME IT IS FOR YOU!!! I THINK YOU ARE SUPER RAD 😎😎 AND I LOVE INTERACTING WITH YOU!! (I gotta come with up with a tag for you, i just realized 🤔🤔)
ANYWAY DON'T FORGET TO DRINK WATER AND EAT IF YOU'RE HUNGRY OR USE THE BATHROOM IF YOU NEED!! LOTS OF HUGS AND KISSES (you can ignore the personal lore one if it makes you uncomfy :D)
GAH!! HAIII!! I GOT THIS ASK WHILE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TYPING OUT MY COMMENT ON YOUR AO3 POST!!!! what great timing, amor!!
I LOVE INTERACTING WITH YOU TOO!!! gosh,, i was just about to add that into my ask to you!!!! i decided not to cause i already said it in a recent ask, but you're really very thumbs up!!! /pos!!!
and for the ask game;;
🍓 - "how did you get into writing fanfiction?"
ooohhh,,, what a story. i had my start on wattpad!! i first found out about it when i was 8 and on my school bus, i stood on my seat to peek over a highschool girl's chair to look at her phone 'cause i was curious and a bit of a dumdum. she had wattpad opened and was reading a story and i was instantly hooked and reading alongside her without her knowing ☆⌒(>。<) when she noticed me, she exited out of it and i saw the app name and got it as soon as i got home. ever since i read my first bnha fic, i've been writing. ((but if you mean writing stories in general? i remember writing one with a friend back in first grade, but other instances of me writing before 2018 were very rare!! i've always had that want to do something creative since i've been able to hold a pen, so i guess it makes sense lmao))
🥑 - "you accidentally killed somebody, which mutual(s) do you text for help?"
cry, panic,, then run to @lykaiosthinks or @itsyagurlchip (*ノ∀`*)
🥤 - "recommend an author or fanfic you love"
OH ABSOLUTELY??? if i had to say my favorite writer here, it'd be @ziipzeepzop-eez,, and for my other recommended awesome writers whose works are DELICIOUS, they'd be @itsyagurlchip, @lykaios2, @sleepytime-fics, @tmnt-narratives, @oleander-nin, and @amorvincitomnia-14 ((YOU!!))
as for yummy yummy fics: whatever you do, don't get attached by @sleepytime-fics where reader gets yoinked into the rise universe after eating a very silly fruit, and every night the longest day by ashtreelane on ao3 where leo gets cursed by a mystic user during a fight that makes it so he cannot sleep. at all. ((VERY ANGSTY. HEED THE TAGS.))
🧃 - "share some personal lore you never posted about before"
my family's always been adoring of cats. my very first cat was a big fluffy grey cat, the only memory i have of said meow meow is when my dad had to give him away. i think my parents have a picture of me petting him? for the next couple years we'd always feed the cats outside, some of them even coming inside sometimes to chill with us, until my mom came home one day with a big tabby cat that followed her up the stairs and into our apartment where he is now part of our family, fondly named "chunky"!! then a year later, a pregnant cat we'd been feeding for a while gave birth to kittens, of which we took in as ours :3
❄️ - "what's your dream theme/plot for a fic, and who would write it best?"
mweeehhh,, i don't necessarily have a dream plot for anything, but if i had to have one? i'd pick something to do with me and donnie because of course i would /lh (though i prefer platonic a TON more than romantic) and i'd want myself to write it 'cause i know myself best. (similar to your answer, amor!!)
🦴 - "is there a piece of media that inspires your writing?"
ehhhh, not really?? i guess sometimes i get inspired by other writers' works, but if i had to pick some sort of media it would be music or games!!
🧩 - "what will make you click away from a fanfiction immediately?"
no paragraph breaks, and constant author's notes in the middle of the fic itself!! i'm not reading a screen-full of text without spaces— and i wanna read the fic uninterrupted thankyouverymuch (つω`。)
this post's a long'un (attempted british accent /lh)

Hello hello!
This is an updated pinned post to try and give a better idea of what you can expect from me!
Who exactly am I: Hi! I’m Rabbit With Anxiety! But you can call me Patch! My pronouns are He/They! I’m a person who likes to draw, and have been doing so for as long as I can remember! I’m a character artist who’s goal is to make something that can make other people’s day just a bit better!
Currently I have to draw traditionally, and color it after taking a picture of the sketchbook drawing on my phone, but once I am able to get an IPAD to draw digitally, I assure you my drawing quality will improve significantly!
What to expect from me: Cartoons, a lot of Colors, and a whole lot of hyper fixations. I’m neurodivergent, so when an unfortunate enough piece of media falls into my crosshairs, that usually occupies a majority of my art for a time. I know puppets are all the rage, but to me, you just can’t beat a cartoon!
I currently have my own cast of silly little characters, a project inspired by the likes of Care Bears and the like! Stay tuned for that!
Possible warnings: while I try my absolute best to be as family friendly as possible, I’m no PartyClown, so be weary about (even if rare), slight gore, religious themes (for horror purposes), possibly suggestive stuff with my adult Characters, I will try and tag these posts accordingly and cover them, but I’m only human, so if I make a mistake, please let me know so I can fix it!
This post will act as a way to answer any frequently asked questions, and to keep tabs on everything I will be posting here! Currently my sights are set on Welcome Hone! I hope you enjoy your stay, and if you aren’t staying, well, thanks for stopping by!

The reason Dreamling is so popular is that many people don't consume gen content, fem!reader/fem!OC fics/self-inserts (which are flooding the tags too), or even m/f ships, which can be too heteronormative or icky for various reasons. That doesn't leave a lot of options, and characters MUST have chemistry on screen to be shippable. For me at least, it's impossible to ship Dream with 1) his family (and he's related to a ton of characters here, including all his creations, his Endless siblings, Rose, and Unity) and 2) anyone over whom he has absolute power (this includes Lucienne). F/f content tends to be sparse in most fandoms, sadly. Lucienne/Gault have potential but barely interact. Constantine/Lucifer could be amazing but there is no interaction whatsoever. Anyway, it makes sense that Hob is most popular. People are acting like it's the fandom singlehandedly making Dreamling happen when it's very obviously ship bait put into the show. And basically every single person I've seen complaining about its popularity refuses to make content for their rare pair. I know it's hard to write for these because of the relative lack of engagement, but I've been there plenty of times myself with rare pairs and know that whining about the popular ship does nothing. Anyway, just my two cents.
I really do agree with your points on general shipping in terms of Sandman, but also shipping isn’t a necessary lens for a piece of media? I actually did put in tags of the original post (mostly to avoid it being too long), but I do find the Dreamling ship pretty enjoyable as the two have some narrative ideals that counter each other and who doesn’t love two longing immortals
But my main complaint in the post was how constant and overwhelming the amount of content floods the tag. Theres so much to Sandman and so many interesting dynamics and themes that seeing the same thing again and again gets tiring.
Death of the Endless is an interesting character and her part of the episode was a compelling ideal of hope and the beauty of life. Her sibling dynamic with Dream and being only one to consistently call him out is a delight, so it’s a little saddening to see her get boiled down as a matchmaker for the Dreamling ship. (Of course Death of the Endless is a super popular character and has posts outside of that, but I’ve seen a good number now treating her that way, I wouldn’t even mind if they were Hob-centric posts talking about her visiting Hob just to do normal human things with him on one of her “day off” [i kind of want to write that now] or something, but it seems to boil down to her “connecting” Hob and Morpheus)
The shipping also starts to do a disservice to both characters too at some points. Especially Hob! He’s such a morally weird character yet people treat him as a sunshine, can do no wrong kind of character. Hob’s done some pretty messed up things in his lifetime (not even counting what he’s done in the comics, even the show his record is far from clean). He doesn’t believe in a persons ability to change, despite being surrounded by constant change, which is a direct counter to Morpheus who is finally learning to change yet can only change so much because of who he inheritly is (you know what id read a fic on that the challenging ideals of change and even bringing in Sandman’s narrative of “change or die” oof). Even the ending of the comic in terms of Hob gets muddled by the ship with many people (who haven’t read it beyond the main spoiler) being like “oh but would he want to live still” YES! He gets asked at that point of the comic and decides he does want to live because there is still so much more to see (of course when the time comes for that in the show he can change his mind. Things have been changed and choices making different paths. But Hob always wanted to live for himself and the experience). Of course characters can be write however the poster wants and they can change whatever, but it’s always so similar fanon it looses some of the nuances intertwined with the canon.
There’s barley posts for characters like Rose Walker despite her being a pretty important character to the entire second half of the show. Corinthian I do see fairly more even getting to just be having fun in comics with Dream (platonically). Heck even Lucifer and Johanna only get brought up so often! (Also in terms of shipping Lucifer has multiple characters to be with, Johanna like you mentioned, they’ve slept with John Constantine in one of his comics, Mazikeen (I believe they do get together in the spin off comic), heck if we want to count that Netflix show as the same universe they get Chloe). Daniel Hall hasn’t appeared yet and even he got a mini explosion of activity in his tag connecting to Hob! (Again another character that has so many interesting things going for him)
But all of Sandman is so interesting that only using a ship to explore the world is kind of boring at this point. Imagine silly comics or fics of Mervyn, Lucianne, and Matthew holding a gossip sessions about the going ons of the Dreaming. Or Morpheus visiting Cain and Abel to see Goldie. Desire visiting their great grandkids. Or even more random dynamics and weird ideas! I know there’s the notion of creating the content you want to see, but if people just care about shipping anyone would eventually lose the motivation, no matter how much love they hold for the content. I guess it is complaining and the content is great, it’s more just so much when it feels like there could be so much more variety.
(Also anon not sure if you’ll see this but if you want a good wlw relationship canon to Sandman and haven’t read any comics I’d recommend checking out Hazel and Foxglove they get focus in both of the Death spin offs after their appearances in the main comic)

Rules: List five things you never get tired of writing; it can be tropes, themes, characters, phrases, whatever brings you joy. Then tag five people!
Tagged  by the lovely @onlyalittlebookworm
1. Missing Moments - it’s always my entry point into a fandom it seems is my brain asking “wait...what happened in between that scene and the next?” or “how did they resolve that? what conversation took place that I didn’t see?”
2. Future Fic / Moving Past Canon - I don’t know how to title this, but basically canon ends and what happens after that? Typically, canon finishes, the story is done, and there is little to no resolution about milestone moments of those characters - yes, there might be a marriage of some sort, or a promise to each other of forever, but rarely is it anything past that and I always wonder “what happens after the end...”
3. Established Relationship - Rarely in canon do we see the mundane things in life - canon is meant to highlight the big moments, the large sweeping events in life that are exaggerated in media for purposes of excitement and drama, but rarely do you see...a Tuesday for instance...and I want to see the Tuesday’s - I want to see the everyday’s - and if I can’t see it, I’ll write about it!
4. Angst - As far as a tone, I love angst - I love writing it, I love reading it - I love the internality of it that as a writer you can flourish in. And for me, even if I’m writing a fluff piece or a lighter piece, I like to sprinkle in some because not every situation, no matter how positive, is all sunshine and rainbows. Life doesn’t work that way. And stories should reflect that.
5. Fix-it’s / Alternate Endings/Scene - Basically, “that didn’t go how I wished...or would have liked...let me fix this...” OR “what if this happened instead?” Writing gold.

fave colour: ORANGE
currently reading: Notes from the Burning Age, by Claire North. post-apo power struggles and reflexions on mankind’s relationship to the world/mankind’s image of itself, with a focus on nature and history repeating itself and ancient, harmful, censored technologies being brought back by prideful, power-hungry people, so, YOU KNOW, not-at-all-familiar, not-at-all-painful stuff. i wasn’t expecting it to be so heavy on the spy thriller, but in retrospect it’s extremely her and of course i should have expected it.  i’m enjoying it quite a bit so far :D also protag’s relationship to the antag he spied on and betrayed is. yes. yep.
last song: i’ve mostly been listening to web radios bc that’s what i put on at work. this afternoon i randomly remembered The Bus Is Late by Satellite High, let’s go with that :D
last series: .... i finished what was available of 9-1-1 in my region, so i’ve. gotten started on 9-1-1 Lone Star.
last movie: uhhhhh shit i honestly don’t remember. maybe something action-y with my dad?? wait i think maybe a Jojo Rabbit rewatch a few weeks back. idk. movies kind of blend together after a while, too short and only rarely impactful.
currently working on: oh i have many WIPs, be it fics or games or crafts. i’m not working on any of them :D
share 10 different favorite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then tag 10 people 🎥🎬📺
1. Kalas (Baten Kaitos) - it’s, y’know, my boy “but ezzoh wasn’t he an asshole the whole time” and he was so good at it!! “didn’t he betray everyone” yes, isn’t he interesting?? “wait. didn’t he betray you too. like personally. as a player.” i support him doing it. had never felt such shock and rage at a fictional character before, 10/10 would get fucked over again. worst thing to ever happen to me in a video game. my boy.
2. Viktor (Arcane) - look you can’t give me a passionate man running out of time turning to a forbidden technology/magic in desperation and turning his body into a mechanic abomination, with themes of class struggles, power imbalance, disability, bodily autonomy, mechanization, sacrifice and violence against the self, without expecting me to pounce on that like a famished tiger.
3. Lambdadelta (Umineko no naku koro ni) - a gleeful, helpful troll! pink!! gay!! gore- and vore-enthusiastic romance with her nemesis!! likes sweets!! sometimes she’ll say things so raw and relatable i can’t look at her directly!!
4. Leenik (Campaign: Star Wars) - “sometimes they’ll say something so raw and relatable i can’t look at them directly” round two. he’s a dysfunctional mess of a psychopath, has killed and will kill again, will feel bad but mostly about feeling good about it, is not sure he’s still a person, broke me a thousand times with casually thrown out, innocuously devastating little statements, is still a fucking sweetie with the cutest most ill-advised crush and the most adorable passion for romance novels, is a dork and a mother to his dog, knows he’s broken and messy and dangerous, knows he’s going rotten inside, has a heart so dark he corrupted a lightsaber and gave an imperial inquisitor the dokis. i have complicated feelings. i have one all-obliterating feeling. i’m scraped hollow and oversaturated. what was i before i understood myself through the lens of leenik
5. Lau Kin Ming (Infernal Affairs trilogy) - *lies down on the floor for a hundred years*
6. Eunie (Xenoblade Chronicles 3) - she’s my RUDEST CHILD
7. Kabrew (Dungeon Meshi) - i have a thing for smiling manipulative sociopaths. i have even more of a thing for characters who aren’t manipulative for nefarious reasons but just because they’re nd and that’s how they’ve learned to interact with the world, for good reasons like self-preservation or to protect someone/something or to achieve a goal that is objectively good or neutral. it’s his best asset!!! of course he’s going to use it!!! a pragmatic boy!!! very polite and efficient!!! absolutely cannot deal with the kind of monster-obsessed adhd idiot-who-won’t-explain-himself-ever that the protag unfortunately (for kabrew) happens to be, is terribly shrewd and clever and analytic but keeps tragically misunderstanding protag’s idiocy in the most hilarious way, is very bad at fighting monsters (his job.) but suspiciously skilled at fighting people (not even remotely in his job description :) ), later aquires another one-track-mind nd idiot to take care off and mellows out so fucking much guys it’s like he melted into mithrun’s gently reluctant fussy little wife. i am obsessed
8. Olivier (Trails in the Sky) - ✨SPARKLES✨DAZZLES YOU WITH FINE WINE, FLORID POETRY AND ROMANTIC MUSIC✨FLIRTS WITH YOU✨FLIRTS WITH YOUR DAD✨FLIRTS WITH YOUR SISTER✨FLIRTS WITH HIS BOYFRIEND✨FLIRTS WITH YOUR BOYFRIEND✨BRINGS A FLEET OF TANKS TO THREATEN YOUR BORDER✨PLOTS TO OVERTHROW THE CHANCELLOR✨FLIRTS WITH THE CHANCELLOR✨
9. Anakin (Star Wars) - i debated over maybe adding Maul to this list instead but. Maul would seethe with rage at the idea of being overlooked in favor of Anakin and so obviously that’s the correct choice. the Force wills it. anyway, ANAKIN. he’s so good. beloved by the narrative, beloved by magic, beloved by the universe. he’s SO MUCH and he’s carrying so much; expectations, responsibilities, power, restraints, taboos, fate, trauma; that when he inevitably comes crashing down he shakes the galaxy to its core and shifts the entire balance of the Force. also he’s a bitch and has a lovely snarky dynamic with just about everybody, i’m especially fond of his characterization in The Clone Wars :D
10. Xue Yang (Mo Dao Zu Shi) - .............. look i didn’t know how to end this list and i can’t choose between all my Pokémon faves and it’s better than Kavinsky even though it’s technically xianxia!Kavinsky, a little bit, but also it’s better trust me i’m a Kavinsky girl. there’s so much about him that is pressing all my buttons. he’s so terrible and so full of regrets but absolutely unapologetic and he’s tragic and he never knew what he had until he broke it but also he never really had it because he came into it already broken and bloodied himself and he did so, so much wrong and he hated and he loved so, so hard and for a while he had something that was almost like happiness but was also built on his lies and crimes and he destroyed it like a child playing and he fought so hard and so desperately to get it back, but he never did, and what little lingered of his broken dream had never been his to save, and he met a miserable end and he was never understood, or loved, or known. i need a minute.
(bonus round: 11. Shigeru (Pokémon anime) - yeah i lied actually i know who to choose it’s this bitch. i love him and so should you thanks for coming to my TED talk)
aannnnddd i don’t really know who i could tag, so?? just grab the meme and go wild, my children

For the Weird Artist Ask Game; 4, 29, and 30?
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
Oh, there are quite a phew ! Of course, even if I CAN draw realistically if I focus hard enough it is still had so whenever I have favorite characters moreso if they are part of my OTPs but are drawn realistically, like Skeleton Warriors characters, I tend to give up midway and just draw semirealistically instead mixed with my own style and because I am quite perfectionist loving to draw fanart in the media's style instead of mine it upsets me therefore I unfortunately rarely draw about it lol. Also architecture designing, I would love to be able to make up sick looking houses or castles but my mind is limited in that field and I don't want to plagiarize anyone so in the end I just draw super cliché ones or basic shapes and it annoys me greatly
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
Basically most of my favorite movies. The Lion King (even if I used to draw a lot as a tween !), Bambi, Roger Rabbit, How to Train Your Dragon, Frozen, Emperor's New Groove, Shrek, Shrek 2, Kung Fu Panda, Kung Fu Panda 2, Princes et Princesses, Ice Age, Ice Age 3, Corpse Bride, Brave and so on and so on I have a lot... all gorgeous or hilarious or both, but I have 0 inspiration and don't feel like it, being just a viewer for them instead of an artist or writer makes me content
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
Usually anything related to my own original art, characters and stories. Sometimes when I am lucky they do attract, notably during October challenges thanks to the tags, but usually (and I can't blame because I do the same) people go with more familiar themes such as fanart. In a way I am bit disappointed, and in another way I am also aware it's normal and am glad the right people get to enjoy them anyway. Aaand my paranoid ass is at least relieved it loweesrs chances of plagiarism

                               — but  i  decide  my     D E S T I N Y   !
# LIIES : an independent , private , and selective blog for LOKI FRIGGASON , primarily inspired by the marvel cinematic universe , the agent of asgard comic series , and a multitude of personal lore && headcanons a myth woven by STORM since september 14 , 2014 . rules && misc below .
i haven't been overly active on tumblr for the past few years , so please bear with me as i get used to how the rpc has changed in my absence i am using the BETA EDITOR and you can click through loki's blog pages to read more about his canon divergencies and such : i am the old fashioned bitch with the container theme . for quicker / mobile access to this blog's rules , please read below . sometime soon i will make clearer reference posts for different canon divergences , but the main things are : loki's main verse involves him working with the avengers much more often , and his default loki show verse features him being taken by the tva for faking his death during infinity war having supposed to have been a fixed point in time for him to die there . bits and pieces of the loki prequel novel , where mischief lies , are also relevant to this blog's lore such as loki having had a short - lived relationship with theo bell in the 1890's .
despite this blog primarily fitting into the mcu timeline ( more or less ) , i am also happy to do things set in something inspired by 616 or avac ( may avac rest in peace ) .
some notes :
mun is 21+ , they / them pronouns . i'm autistic and extremely #Normal about loki . i enjoy character and media analysis , and love to make original characters in addition to writing for canon muses . i primarily rp on discord rather than tumblr these days , so if we've interacted or chatted a bit , feel free to ask me for it !
i use small / subsmall text with some bold , italics , etc thrown in for flavor . if this is hard for you to read , i'm happy to do something else for you on request !
i am in mountain time ( utc-7 ) and am generally around in the evenings / nights as i often work during the day .
mature content may be present on this blog and will be tagged , but i'll probably never be interested in writing smut save for the potential of incredibly rare exceptions with people i'm very close with ooc anything explicit will fade to black by default .
th/rki , as well as other inc/st , p/do , etc ships are not welcome here . you will be blocked if you try to interact with me in this manner , and i will not follow you back if it seems to be a regular facet of your blog , especially untagged .
loki is bi and this blog is multiship based on chemistry ! i absolutely love a wide variety of loki ships . that being said , though , he is also demi , so romantic relationships might not be a priority for him . loki uses he / him and they / them pronouns . they identify as transmasculine , non-binary , and genderfluid -- though they much more commonly shift from masculine to agender as opposed to presenting femininely .
i am personally not interested in playing sylki as a romantic relationship , and prefer to see them developing a sibling , familial , platonic , etc . bond instead . all interactions with sylvies will assume this as a default . please don't attempt to force a ship on me .
i have a job , i'm disabled , and i'm in grad school my activity on here tends to be pretty sporadic , and my replies can be very slow . if you've seen me active on here doing other replies and you've been waiting a long time for a response , feel free to ( gently ) remind me .
have fun !

about me!! yeah :)
name: Miles!
pronouns: they/them. I prefer gender neutral or masculine language. (mx./mr., sir, etc.)
funky brain go- *incomprehensible jargon and mechanical screeching*: a lot of this fandom is neurodivergent, so I want to share that I am autistic, have ADHD, dyscalculia, and anxiety. Many of these things affect the timeliness, or other aspects, of my posts or responses.
I don't want to share my age publicly, but I want to state that folks of all ages are welcome here! Please note though, that some of my content may involve slightly more mature themes, such as swearing (not from me directly, but from reblogs, memes, audios used over videos, etc.), and sometimes angsty topics discussing headcanons and theories related to mental illness or trauma. I will never post anything ns\ft. I will always add CWs and TWs to my posts; if I miss one, please don't be afraid to let me know, or request anything specific!
favourite character: Barnacles 🛞💙
(VERY honourable mentions: Tweak 🔧💚, Natquik/Tracker ❄️🤍, and Kwazii/CJ/Pete 🏴‍☠️🧡)
posts I make: character/episode analyses, random observations/thoughts, funnies/jokes/memes, headcanons/theories, videos/edits, etc.
favourite GBR song(s): Pirate Pie and Briney Blue. Kwazii go prr <3
favourite special: Great Arctic Adventure
favourite season: all of them 4th and 5th
go listen to my Octonauts playlist >:)
"I sent an ask and it's been a while lmao": I struggle with executive dysfunction really badly, but I will get to you eventually. I pinky-promise. /gen
"Where's your askbox?"
ask/dni rules under cut:
(the block button is my dearest sweetest bestest friend <3 so read carefully lmao)
(There are "\"s through some words, so that this post isn't filtered for people who have them blocked.)
Please DON'T ask me shipping questions. This includes my opinions on certain ships, what I ship or don’t, prompts or requests implying certain ships, etc. I know that shipping is fun for a lot of people, but publicly talking about it triggers my anxiety, so I’d rather not. Thank you for understanding.
Side note: Please DON'T TAG ANY of my posts as #ship, unless explicitly stated otherwise with a "#tag however you wish" or "#interpret how you wish". It's rare that I use these tags, but if I do, it's fair game. If you leave comments on my posts or in my inbox about shipping, I will not respond to them, and I'll probably remove them.
Side note²: I don't like pros\hippers. Go away. If I see ANY pros\hip content or support of such content on your blog AT ALL you will instantly be sentenced to life of a block without trial. No excuses, no second chances. ❌
Keep it family friendly. Meaning: No swearing or usage of slurs (even if you don’t know it’s a slur, or if you personally can/have reclaimed it, I will delete your ask/reply, and block you. the word “queer” is fine.), no references to or specific asks about dr*g use or alc*hol, no lemony or sugg\estive material, no graphic viole\nce, go\re, or inju\ry. This applies to comments on my posts, as well.
No queer\phobia (this includes gatekeeping), no rac\ism or xeno\phobia, no able\ism. (or any other kind of -isms, if they ever come up). Don't ever send me hate speech, dis\course, or bullying, regarding myself or others. It's pointless, will be deleted on sight, and I may block you. Go eat a snickers and think about your life choices.
If you really want to ask something that might imply one of the above, please put CWs and TWs* at the beginning of your ask; and be very clear that what you're sending in is a genuine question*, headcanon, or whatever else it may be. (*If it's a question, I may respond privately.)
Also remember that I can decide to just,, not answer something, even if it follows the rules. Usually I’ll do this if I’m not sure how to answer an ask, like, if I’m not knowledgeable enough on the subject, or it references a non-octonauts piece of media that I’m not a fan of, or it features a weird specific trigger/squick of mine that you would have no way of knowing about. Either way, if you’re sitting in your room staring at the wall and you randomly think to yourself, “Hey... my ask never got answered.......” that could be why.
I welcome angst concepts with open arms! But again, please use CW/TWs, and refer to the previous rule’s “no graphic viole\nce” note. If you’ve been here a while, you’ll know I love some good emotional angst~ (high school english teacher voice: "in writing, that's called ✨catharsis!✨")
...UNLESS it’s just a case of Funky Brain Syndrome (executive dysfunction, or good ol' anxiety). In that case, I promise it's not personal, and I am sincerely sorry for the delay—please continue being patient 🙏, and take this lollipop for your troubles: 🍭
———
*Quick glossary:
a CW warns for content that someone may not want to see or hear, for any reason. (examples: viole\nce, ns\ft, certain people or topics, phobias, squicks or triggers: see final note.)
a TW warns for content that may be triggering for someone to see or hear. (examples: flash\ing, eye\strain, unr\eality, vents, tics, certain topics, words and/or phrases, or phobias.)
a squick is something that may make someone highly uncomfortable to see, hear, or read about; it's different from a trigger in the sense that they're usually more mild, and less likely to cause real damage or harm, but you'd still prefer to avoid them nonetheless. (examples: they can be anything, but are often things like certain tropes, topics, ships, or milder phobias, secondhand embarrassment, etc.)
The two words CW + TW can, and very often do, go hand-in-hand; but the difference can matter sometimes—so can the difference between a squick and a trigger.

I read Volume 1 of Danganronpa Togami.
Yay. I did it, folks.
So, uhm...
:|
Here’s my spoilers free opinion, right as I finish it. I’d listened to @/drmedicsgamesurgery’s audiobook almost to the end already, though (I’m guessing you’ll see this post anyway, but I didn’t want to go out of my way to tag you since I believe our opinions differ). (Unrelated, but listen to their Danganronpa Kirigiri 2 audiobook, btw, Part 1 is up on their YouTube channel)
I’d say I’m on the fence. This was a fun read in many ways. There are a lot, and I mean a lot of references to both Japanese and international culture, which were helpfully explained by the translator, and they were rather entertaining. A lot of dialogue is, on its own, very quotable, and the Byakuya Togami himself is very diverting throughout.
(More under the cut. My opinions will be entirely spoilers free, save for a few vague indications of plot points which will be introduced in all caps and put in parentheses to allow readers to avoid them if they so prefer.)
I definitely can’t ignore those qualities - the new characters are enjoyable, and the already-established Danganronpa characters are fun and true to themselves (to the extent allowed by the concept of DRT). I wasn’t all that interested in Blue Ink, but I don’t mind her either. The bait using her near the end worked well enough that it tricked me, not that I found that scene enjoyable to read, lol. (More on that in a bit.) The second protagonist, the “mole”, was also a very interesting concept.
Speaking of, Danganronpa Togami explores interesting themes. This probably contributes to how quotable a lot of lines, even those that aren’t dialogue, are. I’m pretty satisfied with having a piece of Danganronpa media touch on those.
... Still... It was a little difficult to read.
This isn’t coming from someone who dislikes reading at all. In fact, I love reading. As a kid, I used to say “it’s my passion”! Pretty passive passion to have if you ask me. Either way, I’m pretty good at reading. The SHSL Reader if you will (no, you won’t). I have to admit that I dislike reading on a screen, but I can handle it.
Basically, I’m being sincere when I say that it wasn’t easy to read. Everything goes all over the place... which I believe is the intended effect, so it might not objectively be a flaw, but I personally didn’t enjoy it! Blue Ink’s narration was especially boring to me, though I can’t put my finger on why yet - I’d hasard a guess that it has something to do with Borges’ regular interruptions, but that might not be all it is.
Again, I don’t necessarily mind those concepts, they didn’t specifically click with me is all. Honestly, it’s pretty artsy, and I appreciate that. I feel like I could have loved it, but it just happened to land right where I didn’t.
I guess I’m ultimately not that big of a fan of its narration and, most importantly, events “going all over the place”. I found it boring, or even a little embarrassing at times, which was a shame when segments with the mole often explored many interesting concepts. I know Danganronpa Togami is already not the most popular Danganronpa spin-off there is, so I’m not trying to kick it while it’s down - since it has so much potential imo. I can see how someone with slightly different tastes from mine would love it, so definitely give it a try and construct your own opinion.
What I seriously disliked was the ending. It literally ruined the one thing I’d actually liked about the novel. I appreciate that an earlier line of dialogue set it up (those who read DRT probably know what I mean ; POTENTIAL VAGUE SPOILERS IN THESE PARENTHESES something about a date)... But to me personally, that’s not enough. I feel like that’s a pretty shitty move to pull as a writer. I’ve seen it done before and I typically dislike it, and I especially wasn’t going to like it this time.
I guess it’s good enough of an ending in that I’m curious about what comes next, but... I don’t know if I’ll feel like reading an entire volume again with this bad taste in my mouth - even though I know that due to the story’s very concept, some things may not be what they appear to be. It doesn’t help in my case, because it taps into something else I dislike, at least that’s the impression I have (POTENTIAL LIGHT SPOILERS IN THESE PARENTHESES: though it’s maybe not literally what’s going on here, stuff similar to “real” alternate universes are usually not my cup of tea.)
I don’t even want to hear any “that’s not exactly what it is, though”, because whatever it is, I’m already bored by it. Sorry (/gen).
Anyway, when I said “more on that in a bit”, earlier, I meant that the scene in which that efficient bait took place was the one that set up the plot twist I hated, so I hated it altogether. I guess I was a little relieved at least because if that one thing hadn’t been bait, I would have had things to say. (I’m being vague so for more clarity, POTENTIAL SPOILERS IN THESE PARENTHESES: the bait I’m talking about is that you believe one character is being attacked, when it really was another).
Ironically enough, I’m all over the place right now, so to wrap this up... The ending ruined it for me, but it’s very subjective. Danganronpa Togami just so happens to do like, at least two things I specifically dislike, but that is by no means an objective review of its writing. (Though I might expand on how the plot twist could actually just be bad in another non-spoilers-free post later on. Might.)
Byakuya and Junko were fun, and I took screenshots of a bunch of fun quotes, so that was cool.
One last thing - a new character is introduced near the end whose talent is like. The worst fucking “talent” ever? What the hell? Please tell me their writing in the next volumes somehow makes it better? At least Kodaka didn’t pull that shit? That’s one more thing I seriously disliked.
Even though Danganronpa Togami undeniably has qualities, it’s to be noted that I rarely actively dislike anything in Danganronpa, so I can’t just ignore those elements in my review... Which ends now. xoxo

PARTY FAVOURS I CHAPTER 18
First time reader click here
Tumblr media
TWs/Summary: We stan ✨women in science✨. Bruce uwu. Twitter social media AU nobody asked for. Stephen and Tony are dicks and I'm not talking about their anatomy. Setting up mood for Bruce smut, ngl. PTSD makes things spicy. I'm depressed so please be kind ✌🏻💀🙃
Tumblr media
"I really do wonder how can you two fit those egos of yours in your pants," I kept my tone forcefully casual, cheerful even. "Why don't you just fuck already?"
I was met with stunned silence. Suddenly, the room seemed far too large and the people in much too quiet, staring at me with various expressions of horror obvious in their faces. As the strange friendship began developing between me and the team, my "outbursts" - how Steve liked to call them - lessened considerably. I had no need to provoke them into giving me attention, just striking up a casual chat was enough. The Avengers were great conversationalists, to my surprise.
Tony and Stephen, when paired, were the exception. I could count on one hand the amount of times they successfully came to a conclusion without fighting like cats and dogs. It was like each man had made it a personal mission to verbally top the other, more often than not resulting in a thirty-minute shitshow ending with one storming off in a dramatic flourish. It was mind-boggling how two supremely intelligent men could not find a way to communicate efficiently without infuriating the rest of the team.
Plus me. One way or another, I was almost always around. In the beginning, it was hilarious to see the free circus but it got old really quickly when they couldn't decide on dinner or a movie, leaving the rest of us starving and bored. Or the great Cloak debate - that one lasted days and the fussy thing was so upset, it point blank refused to part from Peter for a substantial amount of time. It's pretty fucking creepy that a semi-sentient, ancient piece of outerwear watches you when you sleep - just sayin'. I personally interjected with my own snark and sass whenever Tony and Stephen got too heated, successfully drawing the attention to myself. The fight broke up and I had amazing sex with Tony later, it was a win-win scenario.
Yet, Tony and Stephen didn't stop. To me, their way of "talking" (and I use that term loosely) looked a lot like unresolved sexual tension. Stephen frequently used his greater height to tower over Tony in a childish attempt to establish dominance; the engineer was no rookie and responded with extravagant peacocking such as "subtly" tapping the bracelet that hosted his nanotech suit or parading at dinner in a $30,000 custom made designer outfit. Because Tony could.
I was pleasantly surprised when Natasha started laughing at my remark. Full-blown, belly laugh. Those were rare, coming from the Widow, her usual mirth was quiet, sophisticated, just like her. Deadly (adorable). Bucky followed suit, snorting together with Clint and Loki.
Steve looked none too pleased with me. But then again, was he ever? "Doll, don't be rude."
"Brat," Bruce said at the same time, palming his face.
"People always call me a brat. And guess what, Steve?" I popped my hip, twirling a cotton candy pink coloured Dum-Dum between my fingers. "What can you do about it? Nothing," I shrugged, leaning my head against Bruce's shoulder affectionately.
Steve just shook his head in disappointment. "Can we get back on topic? Please?"
"Captain, I think that Stark..." Strange began talking with Tony dramatically groaning in the background and I instantly tuned out the useless babble. Steve should've been smarter and revoked speaking rights from Tony and Stephen. Or asked Loki to magically render them both mute for ten minutes.
"You're not wrong," Bruce quietly whispered next to my ear. "Ten bucks says Wanda meddles and those two finally work out their frustrations," The scientist hid a grin against my head. I felt the amused, giddy energy radiating off him like a plasma beam.
"I don't even have to bet," I rolled my eyes. "If she doesn't do it, I will."
Both Tony and Stephen were throwing me equally infuriated glances. One promised me a good, hard fucking and the other saw me a short, poisonous lecture on appropriate behaviour in the nearest future - you can guess which is which. If I had it my way, I'd skip the lecture and go straight to a hot, filthy threesome with two men twice my age. I wasn't blind, Strange was hot as hell and could be decent and even nice once in a blue moon.
He could, but he wouldn't be. I wanted that raw, unadulterated lust, tension so concentrated it walked the razor's edge between violent craving and repulsion. Ever since the incident with Clint, I had this ugly mess inside of me, like a live wire about to snap. My brain was constantly racing, darting between how utterly useless I am in a group of supers and embracing my normal-ness, amplifying it by hosting game nights and spending time trying to convince people to start a dungeons and dragons campaign. Or something.
My sleep was like Swiss cheese, riddled with holes where I stayed awake for one or two hours at a time in the middle of the night after waking up sweaty, with my heart hammering out of my chest. Sometimes I dreamt of Clint's lifeless, sickly white body, sometimes the whole room flooded with blood and I couldn't stop it no matter what, there was so much of it, I drowned in it, I startled up with the taste of it in my mouth. Rarely, the worst of it came - the one where Clint was alive as millions of millions of little fluorescent, poisonous jellyfish burst out of him and he screamed and screamed and screamed...
I had PTSD. Yay, me. As if my uselessness wasn't enough of a burden, my brain decided for me that it wasn't good enough that I saved Clint and now it was punishing me for being close to a group of people who routinely saved the WORLD.
I contemplated my usual habits - going to a party, getting trashed and dancing until my legs were numb. I just wanted to shut my brain off for a moment, give it a hard reset so-to-say, but with Tony on my back like a jet-pack, I didn't doubt he'd show up to the place and drag me out of there even if I was kicking and screaming. And he was a Stark, a billionaire, so visiting my dad in Cali wouldn't be possible on my own. Tony would gas up the jet and the rest of the team would find and excuse to tag along, too. As much as I loved being the baby menace who could get away with anything, I hated the way they all herded me, like I was an actual child. I couldn't get away from myself, not even for a moment.
I had the backup-backup plan and I was going to have to execute it. Desperate times, desperate measures. "I don't doubt y'all enjoy listening to Tony and Steph flirt," The nickname escaped unmoderated from my lips before I could catch myself. "But what are we doing for Halloween? I need to know if I gotta get a costume," Bruce chuckled next to me and wrapped an arm around me, happy for the distraction. Unlike me, the scientist was obligated to listen and participate in the avengers-themed discussion. Which was difficult because the engineer and the sorcerer constantly bickered, inadvertently taking over the talk.
"Halloween?" Steve groaned.
"We should do something," Bucky side-eyed his boyfriend. "For the children." Something told me he wasn't thinking of the children, at all. The man was positively leering, probably thinking about what kind of a tight suit he could convince Steve to squeeze into.
"A party!" Tony immediately exclaimed, interrupting Stephen mid-setence.
"Tony, no," Steve stated firmly.
"Tony, YES!" Clint perked up. "A snack bar. A bar-bar."
"I will not be helping you all if you get alcohol poisoning," Stephen crossed his arms.
"So it's a party," I stated firmly, throwing a contemplating look at Wanda and Pietro. The twins looked unsure but excited. I knew I could count on fellow young people to support my decision to have fun, dance a little, drink a little. Let loose. To nail my point, I turned to Bruce with a mischievous smirk. "Fifty bucks says Stephen is too stuck up to show up in costume."
"Beg pardon?!" The sorcerer exclaimed. His eyebrows threatened to meet his hairline.
"I think you give him too little credit, Princess," Bruce winked at me and we solemnly shook hands. It was great having a fellow partner in mischief. Loki's approving smirk just sealed the deal for me.
"It's not my fault you sometimes act like you have a stick up your butt," I gave in the way of explanation, shrugging my shoulders innocently in Stephen's direction. "I'm just pointing out the obvious."
"I don't dare to imagine what's been up yours," The sorcerer retorted dryly, in an uncharacteristically childish fashion, arms still crossed. It almost looked like he was pouting.
"Tony," I simply said, leering salaciously at the man.
"Ooh, kinky," Clint reached over and we promptly high-fived each other in the wake of multiple embarrassed groans emanating around the room. "Strange, you're a boring old man, get over it."
"And you regularly end up in dumpsters, Barton," Strange retorted quickly. "Not my idea of fun."
"You wouldn't know fun if it hit you in the face!" Tony grinned triumphantly, confident in his superiority over Strange. Look at that, the team was doing the work for me and I didn't even have to try.
"I'll show you fun," Stephen retorted darkly. It was obvious the man was planning something.
"Ok, boomer," I raised my eyebrows in muted satisfaction before turning around and grabbing Bruce to drag along with me. "I'm confiscating your best scientist to amuse myself. I am bored. We will go and do actual science whilst y'all argue. Bye."
My patience had run out. We were examining the parasites we found in the murder-anthropods-from-space, codename MAFS, courtesy of yours truly, and their amazing properties to penetrate cell membranes and feed on metals in organic life forms. Without Bruce's help I understood maybe half of it but he had the patience of a saint and dutifully and understandably explained to me the finer points of studying aliens. Signing half a dozen NDAs was never more worth it.
Steve's sigh consisted of 99% suffering and 2% disappointment. Natasha face-palmed silently in the corner, clutching a mug of coffee, a poster child for existential dread.
"Wait for me," Tony whined, going for the door and promptly being stopped by Steve pointing out the team needing his input on one mission or another. The engineer sighed. "Baby girl, don't let the green mean to start any experiments without me." Tony instructed, pointing an accusatory finger in our direction.
I clutched at Bruce dramatically, feigning hurt feelings and was rewarded with a swift motion of his arms. I shrieked delightfully at being thrown over the scientist's shoulder as he hastened his pace towards the elevator, hightailing it out of there. "I'd never snitch on science daddy," I wiggled my eyebrows in Tony's direction, sticking a hand down the back pocket of Bruce's pants, dangling over his shoulder like a happy sack of potatoes.
The lab smelled strongly of alcohol and bitter chemicals, the solution that Bruce developed to ensure the optimal state of the alien pathogens. The man's genius never ceased to amaze me: Bruce came up with the needed formula in the span of a few hours while running low on sleep, post a Hulk-out session.
We put on our protective gear - "science onesies" I called them - along with a respirator and goggles and set to the segregated part of the lab where the specimens were kept under a blue light. The glass wall between Bruce's and Tony's lab was dimmed; I reflected in it, looking positively futuristic in my double-stacked white platformed boots and white hazmat suit.
"Wait," I motioned to Bruce to come over.
"Oh, right, our music," He was already half-way to being in total Science Mode. "Friday, please put on the "Get Schwifty" playlist, 60% volume."
The playlist that me and Bruce came up with for our lab sessions. The man was such an adorable dork. Thirty percent my music, thirty percent of his indie rock shit and forty percent 00's bops. In other words, utter perfection.
I finally managed to fish out my phone from my pants. "No, let's take a selfie," I struck an impressive pose and pointed the camera as Avril Lavigne sung the first verse to Sk8r Boi.
Bruce laughed but abided by the request, giving me bunny ears in the photo, tapping the fingers of his other hand on my waist to the rhythm of the song.
"He was a skater boy, she said see ya later boy!" I sang along, switching my Instagram to stories and posting the short clip of us just vibing with the caption #sciencetime, Bruce laughing openly behind his respirator. I looked cute and silly in my outfit.
"Send the video to me, I'll post it on my Twitter," Bruce requested. I indulged him then put my phone away, ready to conquer the world of microbiology. Or die trying. Science was calling...
