ACTUALLY, I'm not done yet! i have more Dazai anguish to let out!
it absolutely destroys me that both Mori and Oda independently come to the conclusion that Dazai desperately needed someone to try harder with him.
in Side A, Oda literally has to tie Dazai down to tend to his wounds and tricks him into going to the bar with him, and Dazai's response to this is to follow him around like a puppy.
in Dark Era, Oda says this:
But maybe, just maybe, that was the wrong approach—or at the very least, when it came to the man sitting next to me. Somebody probably should’ve tied him up, pried his chest open, and stuffed a vacuum cleaner inside. Then, as he screamed and cried until they needed to punch him to shut him up, they’d suck every last bit [of the darkness] out of his chest and stamp it into the ground. But in reality, such a vacuum didn’t exist. Chests don’t open up like that, and no one is capable of such feats. What we see is everything, and everything we see, we ignore. All we can do is stand before the deep ditch between us and others and keep silent.
and this:
"I thought you were similar to Dazai at first, rushing into battle and wishing for death without even considering the value of your own life. But he’s different. He’s sharp-witted with a mind like a steel trap. And he’s just a child—a sobbing child abandoned in the darkness of a world far emptier than the one we’re seeing." He was too smart for his own good. That was why he was always alone. The reason why Ango and I were able to be by his side was that we understood the solitude that surrounded him, and we never stepped inside it no matter how close we stood. But in that moment, I kind of regretted not stepping in and invading that solitude.
in the main story, Mori gives Dazai the opportunity to leave and start a new life outside of the Mafia. you can 100% argue that he forced him into it, both for selfish reasons and for Dazai's own good.
in Beast, Mori realizes his mistake with not treating Dazai like family:
"A young man with a death wish once came to me. I wanted to save him, but I couldn’t…and never again do I want to experience that." [Then, to Atsushi: ] "You can leave the orphanage once you find something else to prove that you are you. Until then, you can live here as my student—no, as my son."
they both realize this about Dazai, but neither can bring themselves to act on their impulse to force their affection onto him. and, by the time they realize their mistakes, it's too late.
it makes me wonder if ANYONE is ever going to be that for Dazai, yanno? or if he's just going to keep holding everyone at arm's length and THAT will be his downfall?

oops! all kinmories!
hihi i’m sherbet/ephai, this is my fictionkin sideblog because i don’t want to get too annoying on my main. it/she pronouns. i would prefer if you call my any of my kin names on this blog though.
i like/follow from @garagegalaxy since that’s my main blog. if you have any private questions please dm this blog though. for organizational purposes.
i’m gonna be posting a lot about kin memories, i may tag posts for their sources if i see a post is deemed fit. please tell me (politely) if you want a post to be removed from the main tags.
kinlist + byf under the cut
my kins
- looks to the moon (rain world) (tag is “[kin: looks to the moon]”) (I should clarify for this one, post-collapse. I do not have very good memories of before the collapse.)
- wenet (lioden) (tag is “[kin: wenet]”)
- rare ffidyll (my singing monsters) (tag is “[kin: r. ffidyll]”)
- sporerow (my singing monsters) (tag is “[kin: sporerow]”)
doubles please don’t interact if you’re wenet. neutral/anti leaning for lttm, fine with the other two.
byf
don’t fucking involve me in discourse. i’m too tired.
lttm and wenet are my highest kins and i have the most memories for them, most of them are negative. please ask me to tag triggers since i am not very good with them.
basic dni criteria apply here
neutral on shipcourse & radqueer stuff. i don’t care if you interact or not, just don’t tag my shit as transcharacter.
i will immediately permablock you if you post anything about lttm x fp. don’t ship me with my brother, that’s fucking disgusting. like on my main blog, sunstone shippers are on thin ice for comfort reasons.
i’m part of a plural system, that is all i’m saying about it. all sides of syscourse can interact, i’m not giving our side on it. some of the dumbasses may post here sometimes.
i experience hallucinations, often of others in my sources. do not think of me being “lesser” for this, it is a genuine struggle.

Note to self, stop tumblring without my glasses after taking a Benadryl, I found two posts I queued last night that posted today with the wrong tags, and one was just “oops I wanted it in this other tag for my own organizational purposes” but the other was me using the opposite of the word I wanted and nearly calling myself a terf
(“Abolitionist” as a word is good in many circumstances but not the one I meant to use that time, and the post was up for seven hours before I noticed, jfc)

OKAY SO.
Personally, from just his character and internal dialogue alone, I got the initial feeling that Gansey’s a Sagittarius sun with a little bit of Cancer somewhere in there, but let’s dive in a little.
I also feel like that we’d have heard a mention of Gansey’s birthday if it had happened concurrently with the timeline of TRC so that throws out all of the April to November signs, which is fine by me because I can’t really see him as being any of those.
But Adam is a Cancer sun and Ronan a Scorpio, and I don’t know if it makes more or less sense that he’d be a Sag collecting two water signs who very much act it. Also, Blue is most probably a Virgo (and she absolutely has Aquarius somewhere in her chart, you can’t convince me otherwise). In all honesty I think Blue should’ve been a Aquarius because then it would be a strong enough point to solidify Gansey as a Sagittarius with that kind of compatibility.
So back to the original tweet. Now I’m considering Gansey as a Capricorn. While I’m not keen on earth sign Gansey, he definitely checks the boxes in ambition and sense of responsibility for others (in his own Gansey way of course). Earth signs are also heavy emphasis on trust, which I think works for Gansey’s whole hashtag kingshit voice thing/personality.
Compatibility-wise, Capricorn-Virgo (Blue) is pretty strong and has a solid Earth-y foundation. Capricorn pairs exceptionally well with Scorpio (Ronan), and both signs struggle with expressing emotions (fuck the moon I guess lol) the way they want to, which I think checks out. Capricorn-Cancer (Adam) is a little trickier because while they’re not the number one least compatible for each other, they’re both strong cardinal signs, butting heads over a lot of things. But really, isn’t that the epitome of Gansey and Adam? Cancers appreciate dedication (a Capricorn trait) and Capricorns appreciate persistence (a Cancer trait). And most importantly, Capricorn and Cancer both heavily emphasize loyalty, and that’s the most important piece in Adam and Gansey’s complicated relationship. Plus, if Gansey did have Cancer as his moon or rising, Cancer-Cancer is incredibly strong. (I don’t have strong arguments for Gansey giving underlying Cancer vibes, I can just feel it in his words okay lol.)
I’m mainly just focusing on sun here and I think by looking at both Gansey’s internal thoughts, his attitude, his values, and his relationships, he fits nicely as a Capricorn. Obviously he is a fictional character and really, sun sign doesn’t mean that much without a full chart, but hey, we love some roundabout character study!
TLDR; I decided that Gansey should be a Capricorn sun and probably has a little Sagittarius and Cancer in his chart.

How come you don’t have separate tags for the different campaigns?
the short version is i’m a little lazy and don’t want the extra tag 😔
the long version is i started this blog during c1 and didn’t prepare for the possibility of more campaigns (i.e i should’ve started a c1 tag day one of this blog) so now if i want to find posts from specific campaigns i just narrow down the search to a character name, ship name, or the party name
hope that answers your question 😊

Hi Ana!! I firstly want to start this ask off by saying that I love you and your account so much!! You brighten up my feed anytime you post!! But recently I've been feeling self-conscious about my body because I'm super small, like, I'm 5'2 and barely have any curves to speak of :( Could I have some MHA characters reacting to their SO with body worshipping to lift my spirits? (Bakugou and Kirishima??)
Hi, darling! Thank you so much! Sorry for the delay on these. I hope these are still coming to you at a good time.
You know, I get where you’re coming from. I’m fairly petite and bony too, and sometimes it makes me self-conscious. But really, my body is beautiful. I’ve really come around on having small boobs, haha. They’re much more convenient to me. And so I’m certain that your bod is lovely too. <3
I definitely, uh, projected, so some of this might sound more like my body than your body, haha, oops. I’ve also never done body worship before, so I might not have done it quite how you’d like. If you want any alterations, just lmk and I’d be happy to cater it more to you! Best of luck, hun. Every body is beautiful.
Speaking of, I wrote these fics the other day and thought about posting then, but it didn’t sit right with me to post these fics that would be so limiting in terms of body type. Particularly when a lot of x reader fics already default to a thinner body type. So I wrote second altered versions of both fics with a reader who’s a little bit more generalized than the first, but with insecurities leaning towards thinking their body is too big. More disclaimers will be on those posts.
For organizational purposes, I posted all fics separately and I’m just gonna link them here.
Bakugou version 1 (petite)
Kirishima version 1 (petite)
Bakugou version 2 (curvy)
Kirishima version 2 (curvy)
I thought long and hard about the best way to go about this, so hopefully this is an option that pleases as many as possible. I don’t write a lot about specific body types, so I’m open to changes that would make people feel more comfortable in case I wrote something that hits a sour note. But please, approach these fics with caution if you’re is triggered by body-related stuff. All of these fics contain the reader having negative thoughts related to self-image and the boys comforting her.
Much love to all, and take care <3

@sunburnedmermaid replied to your link “Download All 4 Murderbot Books For Free (Before NETWORK EFFECT...”
Oops tagged the wrong person(sorry @feuervogel) @faejilly do you know if it requires a specific app? Because I downloaded it but it won't let me open it. Thank you again!
If you download the mobi version, it will only work on a kindle or via the kindle app on a computer/tablet/phone.
If you download the epub version it will work on any e-reader/e-reader app. My computer keeps thinking they’re nook files, because I have a barnes & noble account, but literally any other e-reader will read them. (Kobo has an app, handy if you have an actual kobo e-reader, iBooks or whatever it is for Apple, I know a couple people who use Moon+... there are a lot of options. If all else fails you can even use Adobe Digital Editions, tho that should be your last choice if you can help it. Adobe’s punitively hard-core with their DRM measures and account tracking.)
I do highly highly recommend that anyone using ebooks gets themselves a copy of Calibre for organizational/back-up purposes. It is the most important program on my computer! :D (It’s great for fic back-ups too!) And the default e-reader in calibre is not pretty, but it’s functional. (There are also a plethora of add-ons if you decide you want to use it for more than a very basic library back-up. It’s an extremely versatile program.)
REMINDER TO EVERYONE ELSE:
Day 2 of Murderbot! (Today’s free book is Artificial Condition!)

{ having consistent tags is not hard, believe it or not! you don’t need anything fancy, either, as even a tag system like yours (i.e. how everything for your Agent 8 is just tagged as “Transformed Agent 8″ and that’s it) works perfectly. no one needs a fancy coded navigation page for all their tags (all of my tags are in a google doc for me to copy and paste lmao) and no one needs to use these stupid fancy fonts. }
{ at the end of the day tags are meant to be a both organizational and informative system. it organizes certain types of posts so you or someone else can find them later (like how if you wanted to read an old headcanon post i made for L/ucas then you’d just throw “https://tazmilyxfamily.tumblr.com/tagged/▷Lucas ✿ About.◁” into the url bar and you’d eventually find it) while informing people of what the post is about at a glance as well as allowing them to actively avoid it by blocking the tag. obviously there’re some tags that are purely one or the other but they’re all important for their own reasons. as soon as tags start being an extra Visual Aesthetic:tm: off of the checklist they’ve most likely lost a good amount of their purpose because they stop being fully accessible. }
{ and you don’t really have an excuse to be lazy??? it’s not as if you have at least 3 different varieties of each tag like you would with tagging your art or fanfiction. you simply copy-paste your drabble tag and maybe an ic tag if you’re picky like me and hit post! it’s as complicated as you make it, only getting really crazy if you’re a huge multimuse and/or love to be thorough with your “other characters” tags. again, don’t need a fancy navigation page either. }
Tumblr media
{ all of this is why i don’t enjoy following and interacting with people who either tag super inconsistently or don’t tag at all, because i literally can never avoid or find anything i need and it tells me that they don’t care if they can’t even be assed to tag things as simply as “💔 | IC” or whatever- }
{ i have no idea if this is a particularily unpopular opinion but i don’t think i see people complain about it as much as i just did so here you go :D }

(so this is super long and mainly about WTNV because that’s the part I understand, or... at least have spent a lot of time thinking about, but there’s definitely a heavy component of comparison between the two series in this)
@vildflower said: I’ve been thinking how wtnv and tma approach similar concepts of vaguely otherworldly entities who are only somewhat connected to the universe that they seem to operate in vs. the universe that they seem to exist in
so this is all super interesting stuff thank u!!!! I just needed to get to the computer to go over it properly bc tbh it deserves it
vildflower said: like,, tma has the whole concept of rituals and avatars whereas wtnv could arguably have. a hierarchy? like when you think about it;; huntokar, the distant prince, the woman from italy, even the great golden hand, are ancient and possibly the closest to ‘gods,’ who dont interact w nightvale often but either have vested interest in it or are able to interact w it more easily due to number of reasons as compared to, like, the rest of the world?
Part of the reason I listened to The Magnus Archives in the first place was because I’d heard hints of the connection between belief (fear specifically, as it happened) and reality, and the tangible effects that this connection has. I have pretty much always interpreted Night Vale along similar lines, but now having listened to TMA... I don’t feel like the execution is all that similar?
While the lines are super fun to draw, WTNV doesn’t have such clear divisions or, well... I guess TMA didn’t, either, but I don’t think WTNV does have such clear organizational structure?
I think the/a key difference between WTNV and TMA is that not all of the entities of Night Vale necessarily tie back into an overarching force, or at least... the same overarching force. Which you go into, but that’s just such a core aspect of TMA that it at least feels pretty distinct.
And the gods of Night Vale, I think, all have a much clearer and even more “relatable” sentience than the Powers. The gods have trouble communicating with other people, in various ways, but they also, say, express regret or ask for coffee when they do communicate.
vildflower said: and then theres the smiling god who could be said to be in a category of his own, or even perhaps in the same category as cecil- the way the smiling god’s existence seems to be in direct connection to desert bluffs/the joyous congregation and cecil seems to ‘depend’ on nightvale and its residents. or maybe it would be more accurate to equate station management and the smiling god, both finding ways to communicate w their respective towns through 'avatars’: cecil & kevin.
Yeah! If being a “Voice” means anything, I do think it would be related to these gods... I guess it would’ve been Huntokar, once, for Cecil. (And now, well... I don’t know. But if bloodstone worship is just happening, that’s a lot of undirected faith, and I feel like it needs to go somewhere... or to something.) And yup, for Kevin, it would be the Smiling God.
However, one thing I’m hoping we’ll see from this arc is addressing the fact that what the Joyous Congregation THINKS is the Smiling God is apparently really different from what it actually is. Even some of the church elders - the actual pastor - believed that it was the centipede, and this would seem to indicate that’s not true.
I mean, if nothing else It Devours! was pretty clear about the fact that the centipede was just an animal, so I don’t see it or anything like it having plotted or directed someone to exploit people’s brains for labor in the future
So I wouldn’t put the Smiling God in the same category as Cecil, or even Kevin, but I think Cecil and Kevin occupy the same category like you said...
For what it’s worth, I’ve always thought of Cecil more like an “oracle” (even before Alice Isn’t Dead!!) - giving advice or answering questions, kind of a guide, if in a sort of opaque or enigmatic way, whether he wants to be or not. And then Kevin is more like a prophet - offering a vision of how things should be, giving commandments, etc, regardless of what people might ask for or what would help them.
vildflower said: continuing this heirarchy the next lower tier would perhaps be city council and the librarians which have pretty fixed, smaller areas of direct interaction w nightvalians. there’s also the spire! which sounds quite similar to the spiral, i think….
I think that’s a good example of how it’s different... “Barks” sounded like the kind of thing that could have been related to the Spiral, that sort of distortion. But the purpose was different - the Spire wanted to bargain, and from the sound of it it’s a lot more open about its demands (iirc: Night Valian “Thanksgiving” involves going out to thank the Spire for its “mercy”). It’s also a known destination.
People in Night Vale know what it is to them. They may not know what it is exactly, but they do know the role it plays in their community. So while it absolutely fits into the structure of Night Vale, I don’t think it’s that similar beyond some (admittedly major) aesthetic elements?
All of those forces in Night Vale, the librarians and the council etc, while indeed forces and while they definitely relate to the human citizens in weird ways... they’re still citizens.
The Powers are TIED to the world of TMA, but an explicit part of it is that they’re fundamentally alien to it, too, and basically need to be forced in.
vildflower said: but yeah,, hope you don’t mind the long rant rip aksk but at this point I’m pretty sure one could draw up a list of some 15 nightvale entities too lmao
(fdsdgh no you don’t need to apologize, I loved it and I’ve been thinking about this kind of thing a lot anyway too!!)
vildflower said: HOW COULD I FORGET! the glow cloud interacts w an even smaller group of people (the PTA) than the city council + angels!! I’d say they’re actually at the lowest rung cause they seemed to only be interested in josie; maybe their attachment to them in turn lead to be attached to nightvale even after she died?
actually the Glow Cloud works w/ the school board and seems to end up in conflict w/ the PTA and I only remember this because I was checking on it for something recently oops.
ALSO THE ANGELS... YEAH THAT’S NEAT because!! they’re the only part of this that has an explicit connection to belief in canon!!
“They are all named Erika with a K. All angels are equal to all other angels. They share all memories and all physical sensations. They experience everything simultaneously. Their minds are overwhelmed with enlightenment and pain.
“They have no centralized leadership, but they do have committees, lots of committees. These committees do not have titles nor objectives. The committees simply emerge as needed...
“Angels have no bodies, only visual projections of winged, barely humanoid forms. These forms are dreamed up by those who see and acknowledge them, and may vary based on the viewer.
“The secret hierarchy of angels is an ethereal mass of feelings and thoughts made manifest by necessity. They’re only individual beings because we imagine them so, but they are collectively beings.”
But I think, yeah... Night Vale is, at its core, a community. And the worldbuilding of WTNV reflects that, even to the extent that belief is involved. I mean, really, the world does run on “belief” it’s just not a supernatural thing... We believe in the necessity of our social structures, so we create and act on them.
And that’s what happens in Night Vale, it’s just that in Night Vale, a divine Glow Cloud runs the school board and the librarians will eat you. All the “forces” that we expect are there. Even though they’re strange (to us, at least), it’s all centered around the maintenance of a community. TMA has a much larger scope.
theres that whispering forest too and omg the desert otherworld, and the black star in ‘a story about you’ & other episodes; entities that manifest more as locations than sentient beings?
So yes!! Night Vale as a place is definitely a gathering point for the weird. I think of Hiram’s favorite memory in this context, too - Hiram was happy in Night Vale because he could just live, for a while, anyway. Or at least, when people were upset, they weren’t upset by his nature as a five-headed dragon (who cares, right?) but because of what he did)
It does have a clear structure, but it’s not the same kind that the Powers operate under - WTNV (depending on interpretation, and none of it is canon tbh, as much as I love it) and TMA are both very different explorations of the connection between belief and reality.
Like the Whispering Forest is... well, apparently it’s its own town now. But it was sort of the local weird forest; it was... a citizen, maybe. In the way, indeed, that the Glow Cloud still is! It just wants to live (and grow. and expand) and Night Vale is a place it can do that.
The Desert Otherworld seems to be connected to the Smiling God, although we don’t know much about how or why or if it’s always been that way. Dana saw some things, though, like when she almost forgot herself in the image of a triangle (iirc), not to mention the rumbling and whatever’s up with the Mudstone Abyss... And then it does have its connection to Night Vale, too, through the Dog Park... There’s a LOT going on w/ the Otherworld; that’s basically its own post dsfdgfdg
And the dark planet lit by no sun is like. I admit I’ve never thought of it in the same light as the other things before! So I’d want to do that before going into it but that raises some SUPER interesting possibilities and if you have more thoughts I’d love to hear them! It definitely merits that further consideration.
So in summary: TMA has rituals and avatars, and WTNV has community. I think.

Data Scientist Vs Machine Learning Engineer – Which is Better!
The year 2021 has seen an upward surge in the two most popular roles of Data Scientist and Machine Learning engineer in the IT industry. Whether there are some distinctions or overlapping of the roles, depends largely on the organizations people choose to work with. Each organization defines the roles in their unique way and individuals need to prepare accordingly.
Skills Preparation for ML Engineer and Data Scientist
Considering there is an overlapping of roles and skills for both data scientist and an ML engineer, it is not surprising to read that certain skillsets are common to both. The difference lies in how they apply in those skills in their day-to-day workings.
Implying – You should not only master the skills but should be proficient in applying them for different roles.
But before that, understand the major differences in how both data scientists and ML engineers approach their work.
A data scientist works more on the data models, while an ML engineer’s focus is more on the deployment of those data models.
A data scientist’s focus is more on understanding the algorithms, whereas an ML engineer will be more concerned on shipping those models into a production environment, which interacts with the users.
Now that we are aware of the differences in the working styles, let’s have a look at the individual skills required for both data scientist and ML engineer.
Data Scientist – Skills Required
The year 2021 has seen an emergence of various new tools and skills for data scientists, however, there are top three tools and skills that are used by most of the data scientists in solving everyday queries. They are –
Python/R: Need we say more on the use of these two popular programming languages by data scientists. Most of the practicing data scientists use Python, while some of them use R. R is used more for statistical data and Python is quite user-friendly and compatible with other languages as well.
Jupyter Notebook or any other popular IDE: Most of the data scientists you will meet in the initial stages of your career, use Jupyter Notebook. Reason: It is the central place for coding, writing text, and viewing various outputs including results and visualizations. While there are other popular IDEs like PyCharm, and Atom, Jupyter Notebook has been considered as a go-to IDE for data scientists and industry experts feel that is unlikely to change sometime soon.
SQL: Or Structured Query Language as it is known popularly is an essential tool. Reason: data is at the helm of a machine learning algorithm, which will finally become a part of the data science model’s data. Data scientists use SQL for the initial part of their data science process such as querying the first data along with creating new features. But that’s not all where SQL is used. SQL is also used at the end of the data science process when the model is run and deployed, and the results are saved in the organizational database, which in turn also uses SQL.
With these three skills and tools mastered, you will be good to go as a successful data scientist. No doubt there are other skills that you will learn as you earn. However, the base is built of these three skills –
A programming language
A visualization platform or an IDE
Last but not the least a querying language
Machine Learning – Skills to Ace!
As discussed earlier, the role of an ML engineer comes into play when a data scientist has built the model. Reason: The main purpose of a machine learning engineer is to take a deeper dive into the code and shipping and the process is known as deployment. As an ML engineer you may not have to know the workings of random forest, however, you will be expected to know how to save and load a file, which can be then predicted in a production environment. To sum it up a machine learning engineer is more focused on software engineering. So some of the skills and tools that you need to master include
Python: Yes, it is common for both data scientists and machine learning engineers. However, the similarity ends here. While a machine learning engineer is more into object-oriented programming (OOP) in Python, whereas a data scientist is not concerned with the OOP, as data scientist’s primary job is to build models and concentrate on the statistics involved along with analytics. Machine learning engineers need to be more trained in Python, however, if you are well-versed in Python then you can work both as a machine learning engineer and data scientist.
GitHub/Git: This is one of the common tools to store code repositories. Usually, machine learning engineers use Git and GitHub, as it is code management tool and platform that is essential for machine learning engineers to make code changes as well as pull requests. Occasionally, both data scientists and machine learning engineers are well-equipped in git and GitHub.
Deployment tools: One of the skills where machine learning engineers and data scientists differ is deploying a model. While there are some data scientists who may know how to deploy a model, it is a core function of ML engineers. There are organizations that prefer data scientists to be proficient with both data science and machine learning skills. So, if you know all the skills, you have plenty of opportunities at your feet.
So, whether it is the role of a data scientist or a machine learning engineer, the above-mentioned skills will help you gain the footage. Yes, don’t forget to upgrade your learning skill by going for certifications from the reputed institutes.

I'm obsessed with my phone. Addicted to it, really. It's not something I'm proud of, but alas, it's true.
I've tried my fair share of productivity apps in hopes of cutting down on screen time, and while many have helped me hone my organizational skills, apps rarely hold users like me accountable if we don't follow through. That's what makes the Forest app so refreshingly different.
With a simple mission to help users "stay focused" and "be present," Forest trains people to manage their time and become less dependent on their phones in a fun, purposeful way. By spending time away from their phones, users grow virtual trees and earn coins, which can then be saved up and used to help plant real trees in five countries in Africa — Cameroon, Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, and Tanzania. The app also gently shames you if you don't successfully complete your goal, which is apparently the component I've always been missing.
In an ideal world, I'd spend less time glued to my iPhone on the weekends. I'd give dining companions my full attention during meals rather than rudely checking incoming push notifications. I'd spend my commute deeply immersed in a book instead of pausing to check social media every ten minutes, and I'd drift off to sleep in the dark without having exposed my retinas to a half hour of blue light beforehand. I downloaded Forest in hopes that it would help turn my unplugged dreams into a reality, and to my great surprise, it did.

Forest can be purchased on iOS devices for $1.99, and though there are several in-app purchases that help you receive more coins per virtual tree planted— $0.99 for a bottle of Sunshine Elixir, or $1.99 for a box of Sunshine Elixir — you can definitely enjoy the app without them.
To plant real trees across the world, the app partners with Trees for the Future — a nonprofit organization that works to end hunger and poverty by planting trees that help feed families in need. But understanding how the partnership and the app itself work takes a bit of explaining, so let's dive in.
Welcome to the Forest
After downloading Forest, all first-time users are welcomed with a simple set of instructions. The app explains that it will encourage users to stay focused and be more present in their daily lives by planting virtual trees. The trees planted in the app take a certain amount of time to grow — which you can customize depending on how long you want to abstain from your device — but because the trees can only grow if the app remains open, people have to put down their phones if they want to add to their virtual forests.
Before you get started, I recommend visiting the settings page in the app and creating an account so all of your data will be tracked. After that, you're ready to grow.

To plant a virtual tree, set a timer by dragging the green button around the circular photo of a plant on the app's homepage. The app allows you to set the timer for a minimum of 10 minutes, a maximum of 120 minutes, or any 5-minute increments in between. During the set time, your virtual tree will grow provided you keep the app open, and it will die if you exit the app or attempt to use any outside feature on your phone for longer than a few seconds.
While the death of a digital tree is obviously very low-stakes, and there are no real consequences if you let it bite the dust, over the course of a week using the app I learned that just knowing a few measly minutes away from your phone is all it takes to save a life — even that of a fake tree — is a surprisingly successful motivational tactic.
Planting a virtual tree
When it came time to plant my first virtual tree I wanted to get the feel of the app, so I only set the timer for 10 minutes.
Once you hit the "plant" button, Forest graciously gives you 10 seconds to cancel your impending phone-free commitment, just in case you want to send an important text first, or realize you've made a horrible mistake and aren't ready to unplug, but don't want to put a virtual tree's life at risk.
Tumblr media
After embarking on my first Forest experience, I noticed that after the 10-second grace period expires, the cancel countdown is replaced with a button that straight-up says, "Give Up." You can press this at any time during the run of your timer to abandon your mindfulness mission, but just know that doing so will prompt the guilt-ridden question: "Are you sure you want to give up? Your cute little tree will die." 💔
If you're not the type to admit defeat via Give Up button, you always have the option of leaving the app of your own free will — which I will admit I did several times accidentally, simply because I'm so addicted to using my phone. But before killing your tree, Forest gives you a chance to redeem yourself.
The app will send a push notification seconds after you leave, which reads, "Go back to Forest immediately to prevent the tree from dying!" You have less than a minute to return to the app and save your tree, and if you fail to do so, the next time you open Forest, an image of your sad-looking husk of a tree will appear alongside the words: "Oops! you can do better next time!"
Tumblr media
Image: MASHABLE COMPOSITE: FOREST
Should you fail to wait out your full timer, a dead tree will show up in your virtual forest to serve as a reminder that you gave up. You won't receive any coins for the minutes you remained in the app before abandoning it, but they will be counted towards your total daily focus time, which is nice.
Planting my first tree was a delightful experience until I received a measly THREE COINS as a reward! After playing around with the app, it appears the maximum reward users can receive for a single plant (without the help of in-app purchases) is 43 coins from a 120-minute timer, which wouldn't be so disheartening if a real-life tree didn't cost a whopping 2,500 coins to plant.
Planting a real tree
If you're downloading the app with the goal of planting real trees, it can definitely be done, but it's going to take a bit of time (or additional money invested in the app) to save up the necessary coins.
The way the system works is that each time a user spends 2,500 virtual coins on a real tree, Forest donates real money to Trees for the Future, which uses that money to plant a tree in Africa.
Unfortunately, due to "budget constraint," the number of real trees each user can currently plant using the app is limited to five. Forest assures users that there will be "limited time events that will allow users to plant more real trees" in the future, though, and planting five trees is still far more productive than not planting any.

Features galore
While the app's teal home page presents an extremely minimalist design, Forest is full of elaborate features.
For starters, by using the notch located in the upper center of the screen, users can switch from planting solo to planting with friends or family. Enabling the app's Plant Together feature syncs several Forest accounts and raises the stakes by challenging everyone to go phone-free simultaneously. If one person in the group uses their phone, everyone's trees will die, which makes it perfect for group dinners or movie nights.
In the upper left of the app's home screen lies the main menu, which offers a trove of customizable options. It includes nine expandable features: Forest, Timeline, Tags, Friend, Achievements, Store, Real Forest, News, and Settings. Each has the potential to enhance your in-app experience, should you take advantage of them, but I want to highlight the most important.
Tumblr media
Image: Forest
The "Forest" option in the Forest app is where you can see all the virtual trees you’ve planted so far. You can use it to track your visual progress over days, weeks, months, or years, and use more specific filters to review your historical app data.
The Tags feature allows you to search more specifically, by the labels you use to tag your plants, such as Work, Study, Social, Rest, Entertainment, and more. This is especially helpful if you’re curious about which types of activities you spend the most time on when you’re not glued to your phone screen.
Achievements allow you to keep track of all your performance awards, such as when you reach four hours of focus time. (These rewards are extra fun because they come with coins.) And the Real Forest page is where you go to turn your coins into real life trees, should you ever reach that impressive milestone. The page also reveals that many real trees have been planted as a result of the app. (At the time of writing, Forest and Trees for the Future had planted 434,459 trees around the world.)

For those of you itching to blow your coins as you earn them, however, the store is the place for you. Forest's in-app store allows users to unlock different species of virtual bushes and trees in hopes of making the virtual gardens more exciting.
Each additional plant — from virtual cacti and trees to flowers and more —  takes 500 coins to unlock, and you can also use coins to unlock ambient sounds like "Café in Paris," "Rain and thunder," and "Times Square" to turn phone-free time into a more meditative experience. To listen to an ambient sound while planting a tree, simply press and hold the headphone icon in the upper righthand corner of the app screen.
The verdict
Up until a week ago, I seriously struggled to separate myself from my phone. Now, I'm free from my mobile device whenever I want to be — even if it's only 10 minutes a day.
After using Forest for just a few days, I felt transformed. I used the app at a restaurant one night and it helped me fight the temptation to periodically check my phone. I turned on timers when I wanted to watch television or read books and successfully did so distraction-free. And right before bed, I'd set a 120-minute timer to prevent me from falling into the vicious cycle of late-night social media scrolling. (The creators of Forest have another app called SleepTown that was specifically created to help build more healthy sleep patterns.)
I love that Forest lets users categorize each break they take, and add descriptions — this way I can track whether I spend more time working or binge-watching Queer Eye. And I had some fun with the personalized message feature, which lets you write your own encouraging phrases that pop up throughout your phone-free journey.

Image: forest
The app also lets you set up to five Planting Reminders during a day, so you don't forget to unplug, and I discovered that if you really need to send a timely text message in the middle of a Forest timer, you can cheat the system.
By quickly leaving and returning to the app a few times, you can manage to type and send a text without sacrificing your plant progress. It's not a loophole I abuse often, but it's one I do like knowing exists. There's also an additional "Work With Phone" option on the settings page that allows users to leave the app without killing plants, but you have to sacrifice half of the final reward and the tree will not be counted towards the leaderboard.
Ultimately, I think the app is well worth the money, and I have very few complaints, but I would like Forest's timers to show up on my lock screen when the app is in use like a regular iPhone timer does.
If there's a setting to make that happen I haven't found it yet, but when I'm in the focus zone I'd rather be able to tap my home button and see how much time I have left until my tree grows than unlock my phone and go back into the app.
Otherwise, Forest exceeded my expectations and genuinely helped me unplug during times when I desperately wanted to but didn't know how. It's an uplifting app that celebrates and rewards you for the time spent away from your phone, rather than trying to curb your phone addiction by highlighting all time you do spend using social media and other apps.
If you have a healthy conscience, the low-stakes death of a virtual tree will be enough to inspire you to focus. And the thought of working toward planting a real tree should successfully motivate you to commit the app for the long haul.

2019's Best Object Oriented Programming PDF Books, Notes, Course Data and Tutorials
Object-oriented programming (OOP) is a programming paradigm based on the concept of "objects", which can contain data, in the form of fields (often known as attributes or properties), and code, in the form of procedures (often known as methods). A feature of objects is an object's procedures that can access and often modify the data fields of the object with which they are associated (objects have a notion of "this" or "self"). In OOP, computer programs are designed by making them out of objects that interact with one another. OOP languages are diverse, but the most popular ones are class-based, meaning that objects are instances of classes, which also determine their types. Many of the most widely used programming languages (such as C++, Java, Python, etc.) are multi-paradigm and they support object-oriented programming to a greater or lesser degree, typically in combination with imperative, procedural programming. Significant object-oriented languages include Java, C++, C#, Python, PHP, JavaScript, Ruby, Perl, Object Pascal, Objective-C, Dart, Swift, Scala, Common Lisp, MATLAB, and Smalltalk.

Object-oriented programming uses objects, but not all of the associated techniques and structures are supported directly in languages that claim to support OOP. The features listed below are common among languages considered to be strongly class- and object-oriented (or multi-paradigm with OOP support), with notable exceptions mentioned.Variables that can store information formatted in a small number of built-in data types like integers and alphanumeric characters. This may include data structures like strings, lists, and hash tables that are either built-in or result from combining variables using memory pointers. Procedures – also known as functions, methods, routines, or subroutines – that take input, generate output, and manipulate data. Modern languages include structured programming constructs like loops and conditionals. Modular programming support provides the ability to group procedures into files and modules for organizational purposes. Modules are namespaced so identifiers in one module will not conflict with a procedure or variable sharing the same name in another file or module.Languages that support object-oriented programming(OOP) typically use inheritance for code reuse and extensibility in the form of either classes or prototypes. Those that use classes support two main concepts: Classes – the definitions for the data format and available procedures for a given type or class of object; may also contain data and procedures (known as class methods) themselves, i.e. classes contain the data members and member functions Objects – instances of classesTerminology invoking "objects" and "oriented" in the modern sense of object-oriented programming made its first appearance at MIT in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In the environment of the artificial intelligence group, as early as 1960, "object" could refer to identified items (LISP atoms) with properties (attributes); Alan Kay was later to cite a detailed understanding of LISP internals as a strong influence on his thinking in 1966 read more

so, i actually laid down for abt 3 hours instead of doing my itt final. oops. i didn’t even sleep, i just laid there. i mean, i tried, but i couldn’t. so, i’m gonna be out of adderall and my last pill will have worn off probs around the time i get home from shop, so, that’s gonna suck. writing two papers, a script, and reading a play with no adderall is gonna be a bitch. i’ve got my xr, maybe (still haven’t looked to see if i kept it or not, probs not), and that may help, but i’m p much fucking screwed on this one. what should take 4 hours (6 with breaks) is gonna end up taking like, 10, probably. unfortunate.
i’m gonna finish my trunk this afternoon and deal with that. it’ll take abt an hour or so. maybe one and a half. then i’ll be finished with it completely. i dunno if i’ll take it home on fri or wait til after break, it just depends. i wanna bring it home asap so i can use it when i organize my apartment, but it probs won’t be easy to carry bc while it has a handle, it’s significantly heavier than it was before, and i dunno if i’ll be able to find somebody who can help me transport it. but i can try.
one good piece of news from the shitfest that has been this past week: due to the loans i’m getting ($2k more this semester and $2k+ next semester) i’ll be able to cover the other half of the rent on my apartment (my mother will continue paying for half like she has been bc i’m jobless and don’t have the time to get one bc i get 15 hours of concentration per day and i’ve already got classes, rehearsal (if i get a part in the crucible next semester, but i will have to direct a play and design lights for a play later in the semester), shop hours (only 2 per week, but i try to stay the full afternoon, so 4 hours, unless we need a lot of help in the shop, then i’ll be there more, which will probs happen next semester), and a fuckton of homework (i’m currently enrolled in 5 classes for next semester, tho i may add a 6th if it’s offered, i need to check like, right now). i rly do not have time for a job and it’s rly hard to find one that would work with my schedule if i did bc my days are scheduled weirdly. i rly want a job, but like, finding one/actually being able to work is difficult) so i don’t actually need a roommate until fall (when my brother should be going to college) but even then, i could just keep paying it with more loans. not good in the long term, but i’ll deal with that when i graduate. so, i’m rly happy abt that. i’m gonna stick a futon in the extra room for friends, but it’ll mainly be used for art/crafting purposes. that’ll be nice. i’ll also get to decorate how i want and not in a way that ‘looks cute’ bc ewww. i just want punk shit all over the walls and an unholy amount of organizational items, is that so wrong? i also won’t have to worry about listening to the big bang theory theme play for 6 hours straight every night. and i can do hw whenever and not worry abt being interrupted. and i can cook my own meals and organize the kitchen properly (instead of the catastrophe my roommate has turned it into. tupperware in the pots cabinet!? baking pans in the pots cabinet!? things we use regularly on rly high shelves!? two fucking junk drawers!? and the dishes are never done, despite that being her chore (which i wouldn’t mind so much if she didn’t constantly nag me abt cleaning, ya know?)). it’ll be great. i’ll be able to do whatever the hell i want whenever the hell i want. i can watch whatever i want on tv. i can play video games for 6 hours straight (okay, no, i can’t, i don’t have time, but if i did). i’ll be able to have ppl over any time without worrying abt her freaking out. there’ll be space in the fridge and i can properly organize the pantry. god, i can’t wait. gonna be fucking awesome.
i do have to get ready for class now, tho, bc i’ve got to do my hair/makeup and make sure i look nice. then i’ve got to head to campus to print things and fill out forms. then my final. then the trunk. then i’m taking a goddamn nap. then i will worry abt my itt final project when i wake up. i should be up around 7p (bc i should be done in the shop by 2) so i can work on my final until 3-ish, so i should be finished by then, hopefully. i’ll sleep til 9:30a, get ready for my drs appt, turn in my final, see the dr (or see the dr then turn in the final, either way), and come home to pack for break. i would stay and organize things first, but i’m sick af and idk when i’ll be having surgery, so i’m not sure it’s a good idea to stay. i might still, tho, just until i’ve got everything organized (which might take abt 5 days). not too sure, yet. depends on when/if i can get my surgery scheduled. everything revolves around that rn. but i will have my apartment organized before next semester starts. i cannot live with my room this messy anymore, it’s driving me insane. i fucking hate disorganization and messes with a passion. like, i don’t mind clutter, rly, if it’s bc i’m working on something, but otherwise, it’s a big nope.
so, i’m off to get ready for class (after i check to see if the photography course is offered in the spring, might not be bc ik it’s offered in the fall) and take my final. i’m nervous af but i’m gonna do my best to kick ass.
