Suitcase in tow, the second she’d stepped foot in Georgia, she knew exactly where she was going. Amid the chaos that was her divorce, plans to travel to New Orleans had fallen through. Rather, they’d never been made. But she refused to let her ex-husband dictate how she spent her birthday. The ticket for February 29 was cancelled. Because instead of spending March 1 with her best friends, Michelle had sat across the table from a spiteful son of a bitch that she’d once called the most magnificent love of her life. Happy fucking birthday, Shelly.

It wasn’t her parents that Michelle sought out as she made her way back to Covington. No, she went straight to the Abhrams estate, straight to the friend whose birthday was close enough to hers that it felt like together, they could compensate for how shitty her own had been. Yet she’d found the house empty when she let herself in. Clearly Georgie wasn’t back and though she drifted off to sleep watching the door, she heard no key turn throughout the evening.

It was well past noon when Michelle finally awoke, once again finding no traces of Georgie. She nearly pulled out her phone to ask if she was dead and if so, why the hell she didn’t take Michelle with her. But the doorknob turned, and Michelle, who’d helped herself to breakfast ( or lunch in this case ), turned to face her friend. “You’re early. Don’t tell me you celebrated with bad sex.” Michelle's tone was blasé, as though it was completely normal that she would be here, considering she had dropped in unannounced. “I am vindictive and would wish that on someone else if they weren’t here to welcome me, but never on you.”

//ok actually i wanna talk a bit about some Gender Thoughts for jerry.

i think jerry probably does not use any specific labels for his gender. for all intents and purposes i tend to write him as like... genderfluid but defaulting to he/him pronouns a majority of the time. really though, jerry's gender is Whatever's Funniest In The Moment.

and part of that is b/c i think that vibes with the chaotic energy he has as a character, but part of it is also just! honestly part of jerry's reclamation of his identity after the mathmetists.

'cause like. okay there isn't *a ton* of information about what life as a mathmetist was like for him outside of casual mentions now and then, but there's a lot you can pretty easily assume. for one thing, the emphasis on no one having an identity outside of their purpose in the cult, even down to no one having *names*.

also, i honestly think it's... pretty reasonable to assume that mathmetism had pretty rigid gender roles and social structures. i mean they're implied to be kind of a white supremacist group lmao and WELL- and i only say *kind of* because we don't get a solid look at their ideals outside of what jerry says about them, and jerry seems to have kind of a surface level understanding of mathmetism in a lot of ways. but i mean every mathmetist we see is white and blond and that is very clearly intentional.

and sidenote jerry not fully understanding the cult's philosophy makes him being the only surviving mathmetist *incredibly* funny b/c no one can correct him now about any of it.

but anyway okay- so one thing with jerry i think about a lot is that like... post-mathmetism, he has a bit of a fluid sense of identity. he responds to almost every name people use for him and changes his name on a dime. and yeah, that's mostly played as a joke and not taken seriously, especially because he always goes back to being jerry very quickly, but it's interesting to me!

and furthermore, i think that extends to gender. he has no problem being feminine and doesn't seem particularly hard-pressed to appear traditionally masculine, which ofc doesn't necessarily mean he's got Funky Gender but i am choosing to read into it. i think, after having his identity stripped away from him, he's choosing to reclaim himself by completely throwing out the version of himself that he was *supposed* to be. and that applies to his gender as well--he's fully embracing being weird and wild and i love that for him.

jerry's gender is "eh" and "whatever" and "a man with extra spice" and "a woman but like when it's funny" and most of all "whatever he wants to be, because jerry is jerry and nothing can change that."

During a rewatch of Lupin Zero with a friend, I got curious about something. So after overlapping some of the OST for Lupin Zero, I am like 85% sure that the song that plays over the heart scene in EP5 is a slightly reworked version of the song "Lupin's Heart"(which plays for the first time in EP1 during the scene Jigen is shot).

the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "👉🏼👌🏼❓" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again

I was thinking I'd probably see one of you! You're wrong :) Let's review the history a bit, shall we?

In this case, what we're talking about is the Institut für Sexualwissenschaft, or in English, The Institute of Sexology. This Institute was founded and headed by a gay Jewish sexologist named Magnus Hirschfeld. It was founded in July of 1919 as the first sexology research clinic in the world, and was run as a private, non-profit clinic. Hirschfeld and the researchers who worked there would give out consultations, medical advice, and even treatments for free to their poorer clientele, as well as give thousands of lectures and build a unique library full of books on gender, sexuality, and eroticism. Of course, being a gay man, Hirschfeld focused a lot on the gay community and proving that homosexuality was natural and could not be "cured".

Hirschfeld was unique in his time because he believed that nobody's gender was either one or the other. Rather, he contended that everyone is a mixture of both male and female, with every individual having their own unique mix of traits.

This leads into the Institute's work with transgender patients. Hirschfeld was actually the one to coin the term "transsexual" in 1923, though this word didn't become popular phrasing until 30 years later when Harry Benjamin began expanding his research (I'll just be shortening it to trans for this brief overview.) For the Institute, their revolutionary work with gay men eventually began to attract other members of the LGBTA+, including of course trans people.

Contrary to what Anon says, sex reassignment surgery was first tested in 1912. It'd already being used on humans throughout Europe during the 1920's by the time a doctor at the Institute named Ludwig Levy-Lenz began performing it on patients in 1931. Hirschfeld was at first opposed, but he came around quickly because it lowered the rate of suicide among their trans patients. Not only was reassignment performed at the Institute, but both facial feminization and facial masculization surgery were also done.

The Institute employed some of these patients, gave them therapy to help with other issues, even gave some of the mentioned surgeries for free to this who could not afford it! They spoke out on their behalf to the public, even getting Berlin police to help them create "transvestite passes" to allow people to dress however they wanted without the threat of being arrested. They worked together to fight the law, including trying to strike down Paragraph 175, which made it illegal to be homosexual. The picture below is from their holiday party, Magnus Hirschfeld being the gentleman on the right with the fabulous mustache. Many of the other people in this photo are transgender.

There was always push back against the Institute, especially from conservatives who saw all of this as a bad thing. But conservatism can't stop progress without destroying it. They weren't willing to go that far for a good while. It all ended in March of 1933, when a new Chancellor was elected. The Nazis did not like homosexuals for several reasons. Chief among them, we break the boundaries of "normal" society. Shortly after the election, on May 6th, the book burnings began. The Jewish, gay, and obviously liberal Magnus Hirschfeld and his library of boundary-breaking literature was one of the very first targets. Thankfully, Hirschfeld was spared by virtue of being in Paris at the time (he would die in 1935, before the Nazis were able to invade France). His library wasn't so lucky.

This famous picture of the book burnings was taken after the Institute of Sexology had been raided. That's their books. Literature on so much about sexuality, eroticism, and gender, yes including their new work on trans people. This is the trans community's Alexandria. We're incredibly lucky that enough of it survived for Harry Benjamin and everyone who came after him was able to build on the Institute's work.

As the Holocaust went on, the homosexuals of Germany became a targeted group. This did include transgender people, no matter what you say. To deny this reality is Holocaust denial. JK Rowling and everyone else who tries to pretend like this isn't reality is participating in that evil. You're agreeing with the Nazis.

Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go “really? Salvatore hesitates for a moment before he starts to explain. "Yeah, I, uh, I dated this guy named Bruno a while back." It feels strange to say it like that, to actually confirm the relationship's existence, but that's the only really accurate way he can describe it. Really puts into perspective how much fucking time they both wasted on that sinking ship.

Not wanting to dwell on that particular thought, Salvatore pushes forward. "Bruno was a nice guy," he says. "Nice enough, at least. Met him at the restaurant he worked at while he was in college--this ritzy li'l place called The Herald." He lifts one hand to scratch at his chin, glancing down. "We didn't really... do anything for a while, not for another few years, but we got along fine."

Salvatore looks back up, but still keeps his eyes down. "Bruno was a nice guy," he says again. If he says the words enough, maybe they'll ring true. "He went to school to direct movies, and he told me all about his ideas." A small smile spreads across his face. "He had a lotta good ideas, I think. Been meanin' to see if he ever got to make any of 'em."

After a moment, the smile falls. "But, well, at the end of the day, we had different ideas for what we wanted. I wanted to keep things on the down-low, not make a fuss. The guys would never let me live it down, y'know. He wanted to tell the world about us, to start a family with me." A deliberate pause as he closes his eyes. "But he didn't want me. Bruno wanted a wife, not some confused broad tryin' to be a man, who cared more about work than her boyfriend." The words taste acidic on his tongue, echoing in his memory.

Salvatore leans back against the wall behind him, crossing his arms. His eyes open again. "The night I was turned, Bruno gave me an ultimatum. He was tired of arguin' with me and told me to choose--my work with the Gianetti's, or him." The smile returns, bitter and strained, as he adds, "I made my choice, and he made his. He slapped me, I broke his nose, and the rest is history."
