Scribs' backstory
Since I've never truly shared how the scribe came to be, I'll tell you all now.
This is Scribs.
They had a name before Scribs. I know that much. Scribs was an only child-- not born to a rich or wealthy family. A simple commoner. Born to a family that barely got by, as most did in the kingdom. Their father was absent when they were born, leaving only them and their mother to fend for themselves.
Their mother was a housemaid to the esteemed Drye family, and she took great pride in doing so. Taking care of the household was an honor to her, so she took it very seriously. While being gone for most of the day tending to the castle, she left little Scribs to take care of the house and complete the chores that needed to be done for the day. But their favorite part was either going to the market or milking their goat.
Going to the market was a wonderful experience-- so many people, so much excitement... They were still filled with curiosity and joy. But there was a catch... They had to dress as a male.
In the village they lived in, there were very strict rules. Men were superior, and women were just to produce children and keep their precious homes clean. Cook, clean, don't talk unless you're spoken to. These were things they lived by. So in order to proceed, they created a fake persona of sorts.
They called themself, "Will."
Before they reinvented themself, Scribs was a girl. So naturally, at first, they were wary of doing something so obscene, so out of their comfort zone. But as years went by, they got used to it. They grew older, and more like Will. More stern, more closed up, and more goal driven.
Due to their father being out of the picture, they grew to be the "man" of the house. Over the years, their mother gradually began to grow more and more demanding and pressuring-- as she climbed up the social ladder in the castle, she would be invited to social events. And demanded that "Will"escort her.
He was her "young suitor."
It was... unnerving, to say the least.
As much as their mother was demanding, she also grew vain and paranoid. Someone was bound to notice how feminine Scribs was-- so she pressured them to become more and more accustomed to being a male, learn more. Push themself farther. But she wasn't the smartest, so Scribs would have to pick up the slack. Men in their village were usually the more intelligent ones, so they began to read and wisen up. They forgot about all the frivolous questions they had about the world and began to spend more and more time at the local library.
Someone had to, after all. Will was going to be the pride and joy of his small family.
Years went by, and things continued like this. Little Scribs grew more and more dull, forgetting things that they truly enjoyed. Playing with their little loyal goat, running through wild grass fields and pretending to be a free animal of some sort was no more. Thoughts were replaced by, "How should I do this? Was I masculine enough? Did I say the right words while speaking to the merchant? Oh god they know, THEY KNOW--"
... They began to get paranoid. And they began to miss the little girl they once were.
Thus, their overactive mind kicked in. Planning out every little thing they said, what other's reactions would be, how to avoid confrontation-- they kept track of it all.
Soon, Scribs was a husk of the curious child they were before.
...
Their freedom would finally come on a stormy night.
It was after another ball where their mother served, handing out refreshments and drinks. Afterwards, she paraded around with Scribs on her arm, just to talk amongst duchesses and kings. Usually during this time, Scribs retreated to their mind. It only lasted a night after all. They could live with this.
Afterwards, when it had concluded, the two slipped away on their walk home. Unable to afford a carriage like all the other nobles had, they did this often. It was raining quite heavily while they were crossing a worn down bridge above a seemingly inky abyss of water, and their mother didn't step careful enough while talking...
Or she might've slipped accidentally. She was a little intoxicated.
Or pushed.
Either way, she flew over the side. Leaving Scribs standing alone on the muddy and wet bridge, a small smile on their face.
Disgusted, relieved, and... Free.
The next few months was an adapting and changing time. They knew they were no longer the innocent girl they once were, yet they weren't Will either.
They were something new.
They cut their long black hair. They tossed out the few dresses they owned. And while finally climbing the steps to the Drye's Royal Castle, they adjusted their glasses and chose a name.
One that they liked. That they were.
They were Scribs.

*laughing nervously* oh my God... how did you successfully kidnap Scribs?
"Kidnap? Who said anything about kidnapping? No no, my solution was much more... Passive. No physical harm was done to them, I assure you! DON'T be ridiculous. After all, I do love them. Very, very much. So all I did was lace a little nightshade into their tea and within a few minutes they were out like a light. Hopefully they won't be too CROSS with me when they wake up...All I really wanted to do was talk to them! They need to learn how to relax and think positively. Like ME!"

"jeez, lighten up a little, will you?"
I.... don't trust the nice king too much...
“My dear, what’s there not trust?”
“Is it because I haven’t given you enough attention?”
“Oh my goodness, I’m so sorry. Sometimes it can be quite hard to spread my love and affection to everyone who resides in my kingdom!”
“But worry not.”
“There is nothing to be afraid of.”
“For you… are always loved!”

He almost did, at one point.
... Ahem, pardon me for a moment
But he was too fucking chicken
Imagine this. King drye, Damien, Simon, and you were all in the same room, what would happen?
I think we’d have a civil conversation about our taste in music while partaking in a bit of tea.
