the undercurrents of all types of love in queen of tears is what makes it truly beautiful and heart wrenching to watch. in the battle between black cat family and golden retriever family, it was so lovely to watch them become one big golden cat mixed family

and zuko is able to finally able to sleep as his new family drives away the ghosts of the one that scarred him.
I love the idea of Toph barging into Zuko's room while they're on Ember Island in the middle of the night and complaining that it's too cold and Zuko is just like "Fine you can stay in here." But I also love the idea that Aang hears about this arrangement and begs to be in on it and Zuko is suddenly sharing his room with his two little siblings and doesn't fully comprehend how it happened.
Bonus points if Katara sees it and is suddenly smitten with Zuko because it's so cute.

the eloise and penelope conflict over eloise privileged with ignorance as a pretty, rich bridgeton expected to marry for love is an interesting parallel to the elizabeth and charlotte conflict over elizabeth’s privileged dismissal of an economic marriage. eloise and penelope are lauded as romantic héroïnes but we often ignore how privileged and indulgent that role is while villianizing those who call them out for it/ do not enjoy the same privilege, perhaps bc they are an uncomfortable reminder of reality.

i think it’s so important that kakeru is depicted as a lively teenager, one who easily smiles and teases his friends. this adds depth to the character, making him a person not just someone who needs to be saved. additionally, it shows us that depression comes in all forms and you really can’t know what’s going on in someone’s head. in the original timeline, the characters probably sensed something was wrong bc he masks it so well. through this we are able to see that we shouldn’t wait for someone to be on the precipice of no return to look out for them but appreciate them every day because there might not be a “later”.

We put so much emphasis on being there when a fandom firsts starts, you get all the euphoria and exploration of the themes with various degrees of seriousness (and of course the crack, the incorrect quotes, everything), the fanarts, the slow developing of fanon, but there’s something so special about loving an old book. We have imagined the same scene a million times, each different. We’ve all been wondering why Tolkien spends so much describing Bilbo’s birthday party, we have reached the end of the trilogy with a heartfelt sigh and a few tears, we have seen Ged facing the stormy sea and becoming a man, afraid yet persevering, growing into his own, yet years from now it will all feel entirely new to a new reader. I’ve read Narnia when I was seven and I will greet a new reader twenty years from now. I can share my excitement in the solitude of my mind and the internet as well, knowing I was not and probably won’t ever be alone in this.

i think the most painful thing about reading the harry potter books after reading headcanons for a while is how limited and distant his interactions with sirius and remus are in canon. although they find their way back to each other they never quite fix what wormtail and voldemort broke.

i see a lot of posts, and canon material, that paints harry as the second james. no he’s not. harry is the second sirius. abused and neglected by the people who brought him up until he’s adopted into the family of his james, ron. they even share the “thinking im going to be in slytherin but actually placed in gryffindor so mommy mcgonagall can adopt my traumatized arse” trait.
sirius forces himself to see james in harry because he can’t handle the knowledge of seeing himself. harry hides the worst of it from sirius because if anyone understands too well it’s him and sirius has proven again and again he has absolutely no regard for his own safety.

isn’t it fascinating that we associate percy with blue because of his mom and not his dad, the literal god of the sea. it’s never gone into why sally likes blue so much (perhaps it was a way to give her son a part of his father) but the color now represents his bond with her instead of his powers or his father. i find this really cool because perhaps percy would have been drawn to blue naturally due to his connection with the sea but that association would have been much more superficial to what we are given. and also sally jackson took away the sea gods own color from him.

Why the sex scene in The Eternals bothered me so much
First I'd like to say I loved that film, and by this message I don't mean to hate on it in any way.
If you've watched The Eternals then you might have spotted the barely 10s sex scene that was added, and It bothers me on so many levels.
First, it bothered me so much that I wanted to understand the director's point of view. I quote from the director Chloe Zhao; 'For us to show two people that love each other, not just emotionally and intellectually but also physically, and to have a sex scene that will be seen by a lot of people that shows their love and compassion and gentleness - I think it's a beautiful thing.'
And I don't disagree with her statement. But a sex scene isn't the identity of Marvel, it's not why people watch these films and it's not what we (I hope I speak for most people) search in this franchise.
I understand that sex is a beautiful thing, and that it should be praised rather than frowned upon, but it still does make some people uncomfortable and doesn't make sense in a marvel film. It feels out of place.
What was so beautiful about Marvel is that they managed to keep that innocence. Making their films viewable by children and people who don't feel comfortable with nudity. I know for a fact that that's what most people love about Marvel.
You can argue that 'if you want to keep these films for children then you shouldn't include violence' - but that's a little bit why people watch these films. Because they want to see the super hero fight the bad guy. They want to see cool women and dudes fighting off some badass villains.
What was also cool about Marvel were the sex jokes. They are funny because you know they're never going to act upon them. Because kids don't get these jokes when they watch the films. Just like if you watch some kid films and cartons as adults, you spot those jokes while kids will be oblivious to them.
The thing is love has always be shown through sex in so many things of today's media and it's so needed to show people loving each other emotionally and intellectually more than anything. And not through physical affection that is almost everywhere to the point of being annoying. It doesn't set a good example if Marvel does 'everything like everyone else'. Marvel not doing sex scenes was an unintentional way of saying 'it's ok not to want to have sex with someone'.
In today's world showing other types of love then physical is so needed. And even though the director said 'For us to show two people that love each other, not just emotionally and intellectually but also physically' while the loving each other emotionally and intellectually are not as explored as it could have been through the film.
If you take Tony Stark and Pepper's relationship for example. The fact that they love each other, other than through their physical activities is clearly shown, which makes the beauty of their relationship. You don't need sex scenes to show love and I can't stress how it's so important in today's world with all the sex scenes going on in today's media.
For people to have a safe franchise, where they know they will have nothing more than a few sex jokes is fantastic.
So please marvel.
Please
Don't do that again.
