I asked VQGAN+CLIP to make me sexy queer trans people.
It has somewhat shaky ideas about what a person is to begin with and clear biases about the way certain identities are portrayed that I've tried to come up with terms to subvert, at least to the extent that most of them have faces now.
The images keep getting pulled from social media for nudity (Instagram put them back up), though what body parts are being shown is unclear. I would call them nsfw because at a glance they absolutely seem explicit, but the decision to remove them is being made entirely by other AI.
Reposting here as a link instead of the actual images.

They images got immediately pulled from Instagram and then immediately put back up because most of the body parts that look explicit at a glance are just kind of, uh, flesh shapes. Their entire moderation team is bots now, too.
Let's see how Tumblr takes it.

Trans Health Care at its Best is Still Pretty Bad
Tumblr media
"The story I’m about to tell you is one where everything works out in the end.
That’s something I want to emphasize because it may sound at some points like a series of complaints. To an extent, it is. It’s a list of things that could have gone wrong but didn’t, because I always had somebody to back me up. In an ideal world, I would have both a lack of obstacles and an army of advocates on my side, but most trans people have neither."

The Painting Yale Lost
Tumblr media
I used to work at a copy shop on the Upper East Side. It was an hour and a half commute at five in the morning for just above minimum wage. The wealthiest neighborhood I’ve spent a considerable amount of time in, for sure. I once saw an ad for a lost dog that said, “last seen wearing a Burberry coat.”
Once, a customer came up to my counter, exuberant: she had just gotten into Pratt Institute, she told me, and wanted to print her acceptance letter.
“Oh,” I commented, “I went there.”
I do not remember the exact change in her expression, but imagine the sound of lightly crushing a blown egg in your palm, as an emotion.
“You mean you took a few classes?”
“Oh, no, I got my BFA at Pratt.”
She looked absolutely terrified at this point, her voice was beginning to shake, and despite how I should have felt about her fear of becoming me, I felt bad for her.

Holbein’s “The Ambassadors” With Spinning Skull Gif (2017)
The Ambassadors (1533)  by Hans Holbein the Younger
“The most notable and famous of Holbein's symbols in the work, however, is the distorted skull which is placed in the bottom centre of the composition. The skull, rendered in anamorphic perspective, another invention of the Early Renaissance, is meant to be a visual puzzle as the viewer must approach the painting from high on the right side, or low on the left side, to see the form as an accurate rendering of a human skull. While the skull is evidently intended as a vanitas or memento mori, it is unclear why Holbein gave it such prominence in this painting.“ - Wikipedia
I removed the original skull from Holbein’s painting and replaced it with a skewed spinning skull gif, a staple of the Geocities/Livejournal pages I was emulating for the project for which this was originally made. The two links to the calendar on the fake Livejournal page contained versions of the dancing baby gif and the spinning skull, respectively: representations of time as goofy yet ominous references to birth and death.
Originally made for ColdPlayCrybaby.com (2017) as two separate superimposed images
Single gif version (2020)

My Thesis Was Destroyed in a Fire, Shown by the World’s Top Art Dealer, and All I Got Was This T-Shirt
Tumblr media
A few months ago I met a professor from my college, Pratt Institute, at a life drawing night at a gay bar in Brooklyn who asked me about the red-dyed paper I was drawing on. The convoluted story of how I came to possess that paper began when the school’s Main Building, where I had my painting studio, burned down in 2013. He was surprised: he’d never heard there’d been a fire. It really wasn’t all that long ago, but they’ve fixed up the building since then. I suppose people don’t really talk about it anymore.

A lenticular print made from a clip of a video I made in 2013. I think the background came out too dark and I did not include enough frames of the pizza mid-flight, but otherwise it came out pretty good!
