As a Dark revival begins to rise four years after the war, Hermione Granger is placed on the assignment of putting an end to them - and her first task is to recruit the Ministry's best hope and last option in the form of Draco Malfoy.

i'm going to start this review on a slightly dramatic note: this is. my favorite dramione fanfiction to date. in all honesty, i totally see that changing as i read more by sage (aka everythursday). as it stands no, though, this fic absolutely blew me away. i am especially fond of the whole ministry-employee-hermione-tasked-with-draco's-case trope and sage is just an incredible writer who spends time developing a slow-burning progression from hatred, forgiveness, friendship, to eventual romance, so this whole fic felt like it had my name written all over it. it. is book length at a whopping 413 pages...and i still finished it in under 24 hours.

every single character, but especially draco and hermione, is just so perfectly written and true to the source. the plot just pulls you in, too; i found myself on the edge of my seat reading about the revival's plans and intentions. and the romance, the ROMANCE! so well-developed and beautifully written. i literally had butterflies in my stomach while reading. i find it hard to overstate this fic. if you like plot and romance, slowburn, and a draco redemption that actually takes a long time, this is absolutely the fic for you.

the only negative thing i can say is that i wish it was l longer and the ending is a bit abrupt. please read this fic.

until the ink runs dry is a completely epistolary fic about an attorney hermione who has taken on the cases of her classmates who were thrown in prison for their parents crimes and an imprisoned, depressed draco. let me start this off by saying, i usually do noooot like epistolary fics. i feel like they can lack substance and character development when we only hear about the characters from themselves. however, this fic might have singlehandedly changed that opinion. you can really see hermione and draco’s character shine though, in even their shortest letters.

acciomjolnir is excellent at making them both true to fiction and realistic. on top of that, their relationship develops very naturally. they form a friendship that makes perfect sense for two lonely, desperate people who lost their childhoods to make. it’s a short read, but every chapter just made me want to keep reading. if i HAD to give it a critique, i would say draco’s “learning curve” isn’t really as steep as i think it should be, but even that i’m not too sure about as azkaban has really jaded him. if you’re looking for something you can read in a night or two, will give you some great emotional moments without breaking your heart, and is all around a joy to read, check out until the ink runs dry.

it also has an epilogue that is absolutely delightful.

Hermione is the one who finds Draco weeping in the bathroom. He flees. She chases him into the Room of Requirement, and the room forces them to face their greatest fears together in order to find the door.

10 years too late, i got around to reading what the room requires! i can see why it’s so acclaimed in the dramione scene, but i don’t think it’s without its flaws. overall, the writing is beautiful and the characterization is so true to fiction. the sad moments hurt and the happy ones satisfy. i literally found it so hard to put down that i had to start reading pride and prejudice ( ;) ) in between chapters so i didn’t blow through it too quick.

the fic as a whole is paced well, which i’m sure was very difficult as draco and hermione are in a time-less space, including the romance. their relationship has high and lows; it doesn’t just miraculously get better after one interaction. i really found myself liking how draco is written in this fic. i don't know what it is, but something about him is so driven, stubborn, and in character.

(SPOILERS) all of this being said, it isn't perfect. the ending is nice, but it felt so rushed. i find it very hard to believe everything would just go perfectly smooth with hermione’s friends or draco’s family, even after dracos reform. it’s almost like we just got an “and they all loved happily ever, the end!” don’t get me wrong, rackham is a great author. it doesn’t like spoil the fic or anything, it’s just a little dissapointing
