Wild Billy’s Barbeque was more of a dive than anything else, tucked in a small corner lot ten blocks from the Avengers’ Tower. The kind of place where the finish had worn off the tables, the condiments came in squeeze bottles, and the food was so good, Guy Fieri would want to eat there.

(Yes, Steve watched Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives late at night with Bucky when neither of them could sleep, and Food Network was fond of reruns. He had not, however, thought his best friend would get so involved in watching Chopped that he once threw a knife into the TV and had to replace it before Tony found out.)

Most of all, Steve liked the fact that he could slip in, snag a table in the back, and grab a sandwich without anyone bothering him. Those moments of peace, of being able to feel something close to normalcy, was all Steve needed. No one ever knew where he snuck off to - his own little sanctuary. He didn’t think it could get any better.

And then he noticed her.

“Hold the door!” you shouted as you entered your building and saw the doors to the elevator closing. It was pouring outside and the only thing you wanted to do was wrap yourself up in your blanket and watch movies. There was nothing like the smell of rain in the air, but after the day you had just had you had no energy left to enjoy it. After picking up your groceries you almost ran home. The faster you got to your apartment, the better.

What had just happened? 

A sorry excuse for a freaking date. 

This guy you’d met at work, Lucas, had invited you out to the movies with him as a date after confessing a secret crush on you. He was a cute guy, a little taller than you with a kind face. He was shy, introverted, and a little awkward, but you found it slightly endearing and decided to take a chance with him. After all, your heart was tired and you were sick of being lonely. The only problem was that the only time you had to go to the movies any time soon, was when you were a half hour away from the Avengers Compound, where you lived and you both worked. 

You’d ordered the tickets and reserved your seats in the theater the night before, so as to get good spots, but you felt really bad about dragging him so far away. So, you offered to buy the snacks.

You had to admit that, even though you weren’t sure how you felt about this guy, you were excited for the date. It was the first one you’d been on in what seemed like forever, and you were more than ready to get back into the dating game. 

You’d done your makeup and your hair and put on your fancy leather jacket in preparation for the occasion, and you had to admit that you looked fine. You were confident, bubbly, excited, and ready for this thing. 

On your way out of the compound, several of your friends and teammates had complimented you; even Bucky had managed out a “You look really pretty” (which was a huge step for him considering the fact that he hardly talked to anyone save for Steve and occasionally Tony).

Tony Stark and Pepper Potts held the wedding of the century, inviting hundreds and Tony took that as an excuse to throw the biggest, most extravagant party the east coast had seen. The whole team was there and despite much arguing and threats, Pepper basically forced everyone to participate in the wedding procession.
