“If I get pregnant as a result of rape I will die if I can’t abort the fetus before it kills me.”

“Then get your tubes tied.”

The “if you didn’t want to raise a child you shoudln’t have x y z” anti-abortionists terrify me because like. What kind of parents are you? If you don’t experience parenting as this immense, lifelong, profoundly transformative committment that is one of the most intense, self-effacing, challenging things a human can do… that like…. reframes the entire rest of your life and marks your very soul because now someone else’s pain hurts (or should hurt) a hundred times worse than your own, and someone else’s comfort will (or should) matter so much more than your own… and like…. needs to be something you walk into in acceptance and consent and want because you will not necessarily get the Stepford child, you might get the profoundly disabled one that will require you to quit your dream job or the very queer one that will require you to fight your entire family or the nonverbal one that will require you to learn modified sign language and adapt your entire life and…. and if you don’t do all that willingly and happily and without resentment and grudge, and if you’re not ready to give all your love to a human that you can’t control, to see them and value them regardless of your own expectations and fantasies then you will hurt your child so much and… like… the duty of a parent is so deep and complex and doesn’t end at 18 and it’s something that you must only take upon yourself if you can do it with sincerity and goodness and not the narcissistic drive to impose your own selfhood on another being and… Fuck, I mean. If you don’t grasp the enormity of parenting? If you think raising a kid is some pedestrian chore, like community service dish-washing, that people should put up with as moral punishment? Wow, I am scared for your kids. Are your kids ok?

the supreme court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade is not official yet. someone leaked a draft of the opinion that the members of the court have been circulating and revising (the draft was created by justice samuel alito).

which is insane by the way. it’s the first time that a draft of a supreme court decision has ever been leaked in the entire history of this country.

it makes perfect sense to feel grief or panic or dread or sadness or anger or whatever you’re feeling right now. this is fucking terrible and scary. just for the sake of avoiding misinformation, i wanted to clarify this because i think a lot of the headlines have been misleading, and the info gets even more misconstrued when it’s rephrased on social media and stuff

Just in case you aren't clear on how things work, overturning Roe Vs. Wade will not make abortion illegal federally. Instead, it will give states the legal right to ban abortion, if they so choose, and many red states will attempt this if overturned. But, as of right now, the evening of May 2nd, no such decision has been made, there are no official proceedings, and nothing is set in stone. Now is the time to be loud.

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again.

If you want Roe v Wade overturned, but don’t support:

Comprehensive sexual education in schools

Easy and affordable access to contraception

Access to adequate and affordable prenatal care

Paid parental leave

Subsidized childcare

CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program)

Then you don’t actually care about reducing abortions or protecting children. You just want to punish people with uteruses for having sex.
