As Aggie had been raised in a very religious home, she’d had her heart set on ensuring her own children would be raised the same way. Will didn’t understand it all—he wasn’t against the concept of a greater deity but he’d never cared that much for church as a whole, had always hated being forced to sit still in a stuffy building for two hours when there was so much more he could be doing. Still, it meant a lot to his Aggie, so he went along with it and thus, as soon as they could, they had little Charlie baptized. All their friends and neighbors were in attendance, but even so, it proved to be a quaint, quiet little affair.
So quaint, in fact that Charlie seemed content to sleep through the entire thing.

A letter to Matthew Dailey from his daughter Agnes, 189x
Dearest Papa,
I write to you with the most joyous news – your grandson has made his arrival!
As of the time I write this letter, it will have been two weeks ago that he was born. He’s a fine boy, red curls, rosy cheeks and all. Dr. Collins said he’s on track to be quite the happy, fat baby, and that couldn’t make me more delighted. Aunt Winifred has always said that happy, fat babies are good. It means that they’ll grow up strong, that they’ll be healthy. Will says that its fitting, our boy is the son of a farmer after all. The day will soon come where he'll go out to the fields to help his father.
Only, I hope that day doesn’t come too soon, for I can barely let my darling boy out of my arms for a single moment without wanting him back in them. Oh, I think I may in love again, Papa. Only it is a new kind of love that I feel, I can only imagine that it is the same love you and Mama felt when I was born. It is such a wonderful feeling and I enjoy every chance I get to bask in it. Becoming a mother has instilled me with such strength, such drive, it is as if I have been made anew. My world is much bigger now than it once was and I feel as if I have a much grander purpose than I ever would’ve imagined before.
Will sends you and auntie his love. Do come and visit us when you get the chance, you’ll both be quite welcome here and goodness knows I could use the extra help with the baby.
Your loving daughter,
Mrs. Agnes Barclay
P.S. Forgive me, I forgot to mention – your grandson’s name is Charles Matthew Barclay. Charles after Will’s grandfather and of course, I couldn’t go without ensuring that you had a namesake. Although for now we’ve decided we’d like to call him Charlie, as Will and I both agreed that Charles is a bit too formal for a baby.

A letter to Margaret Barclay from her son William, 189x
Dear Mother,
I’m writing to inform you that Aggie and I’s first child has been born.
We’ve named him Charles Matthew, for Grandfather and Aggie’s own father. He’s a strong, healthy boy, and we are both very proud to call him ours. You’re welcome to come and see him any time that you wish, that is, if Papa will allow it. I know you hate to go against his word, but please, consider your grandson. I’d like for you two to meet him before he grows too much.
Regards,
Mr. William Barclay

“That’s it, dear, you’re doing fine. Another deep breath now,”
Martha reassured Agnes, squeezing her hand as yet another terrible, awful cramp rippled through her body. It had been hours now, since the pains had first begun, and by now the sun had set from the sky and the moon had taken its place. No one had told her that having a baby took this long, nor had anyone ever warned her just how awful it would feel. It must be a rewarding pain, if one had to suffer this much – or at least, that was what Agnes kept telling herself.
That at the end of of it all, she’d be holding her child in her arms.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outside of the room, Will had been pacing nervously about the parlor for so long that it was a surprise he hadn’t worn a hole into the floors yet. He and Clarence Reed, Martha’s husband, had gone into town to fetch the doctor several hours ago when Agnes’ labors had first begun, but now that that task was done, it didn’t seem there was anything else left for Will to do. Nothing except worry, that was.
Clarence had tried his best to be a comfort, as he was no stranger at all to the younger man’s distress. He’d gone through the same thing himself thirty five years ago, after all. Twice at that! Hed offered Will a cigar to calm his nerves but Will had politely turned him down. He was trembling far too much to even think of smoking, too worried that he might end up dropping it and burning the house down.
Every few seconds, he would pause momentarily to look toward the hall, hoping for some sort of the news, some sort of sign. Any time the door would open he would hold his breath, only to release it in disappointment upon realizing it was only Martha rushing out to retrieve more towels and hot water.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Then it happened. His wife’s screams came to an abrupt halt, and Will ceased his pacing. Once more, he held his breath, anticipating what might come next.
And what that was, was perhaps one of the most glorious sounds he’d ever heard in his whole life aside from his Aggie’s singing.
The sound of a newborn letting out its first cry, which at the same time, allowed him to finally exhale in relief.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Martha called him to the room a couple of minutes following, and he entered to find an exhausted Agnes laying on the bed with a squirming, red-faced bundle in her arms.
“Its a boy, Will. Our boy,” she beamed up at him, her face drenched with sweat yet proud and glowing.
“So he is...” Will could barely take his eyes off the sight of the two of them, unable to contain the feeling that was beginning to bubble within him. It was a good feeling, a feeling he’d never really known until this exact moment.
A feeling of overwhelming pride, and admiration.
“So he is.”

Agnes had been finishing the last of the lunch dishes when she’d first felt it.
Those first, few undeniable pangs of pain in her lower body.
She felt no alarm at the feeling, no expectant mother would when they very well knew what this meant. She approached Will as he was beginning to head out into town and see about purchasing some feed for the chickens as they were almost out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“While you’re at it, do you think you might stop by the Reeds’ place and ask Martha if she’d like to come over for a visit?” she asked him, as he began to head toward the door.
“Oh? But its a Tuesday, didn’t Martha say Tuesdays were her sewing days?”
“Ask her anyway, would you?” Agnes pressed, and Will sighed, yet still offered his wife a patient smile.
“Oh alright, I guess it wouldn’t hurt,” He turned to head out the door, but he’d barely made it past the front step before it dawned on him what Agnes had really been asking him. Turning back around, he all but bolted back into the house.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“You don’t want Martha over for a social visit, do you?” he asked, and Agnes shook her head.
“No.”
“Its...is it the baby? Is the baby--”
“Yes.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Her voice was gentle and calm compared to the more frantic expression on her husband’s face, and he didn’t waste another second as he once more turned to leave the house, this time practically running nonstop until he made it over to the Reed home.

A letter to Winifred Dailey from her grandniece Agnes, 189x
Dearest Aunt,
As the months have gone on, I have only become larger and more tired, finding little time or comfort for myself. Will just finished building a cradle for our little one, the finishing touch to the nursery I’ve spent so much time working on. It may not be the fanciest nursery in the world, but it is suitably neat and tidy enough, that is all that matters. After all, it wouldn’t do to bring a child into an unruly home, now would it?
Will and I grow more eager by the day, but I will admit, we are also a bit stressed over it all. Just the idea of having a baby seemed pressing, but now that I’m approaching my due date, its only becoming and more and more daunting. So many more responsibilities are to arrive, so many changes! Make no mistake, however, it will be nice to hear the sounds of little feet pitter pattering around the house, its ever so quiet whenever Will leaves and I’ll certainly appreciate the company.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For now, we’ve been content to enjoy the remaining free time that we have, especially since Dr. Collins says I’m due to deliver at any time now and that it would be good to spend that time wisely. Well, I daresay we have done just that, as Will surprised me with a picnic following church services this recent Sunday, oh, what a dear man my husband is. Every time I think I truly know him he ups and finds new ways to surprise me. I know you’ve always thought him to be a bit brash, Aunt, but I cannot help but love him so.
Your loving niece,
Mrs. Agnes Barclay

Its lookbook time!
I didn't do nearly enough of these the last time I did this challenge, so I wanted to go ahead and get started with a showcase of Aggie's wardrobe. Having grown up the only daughter of an orchard owner, Agnes found herself with quite the collection of fine dresses and hats, no thanks to her dear Aunt Winifred. "Every young woman needs at least three nice dresses in her life, there's no reason for you to go without," she'd always say. Even so, Aggie values practicality just as much as she does style, especially as she is now a farmer's wife and doesn't have as much time for dressing up and social events as she once did. She can always be seen wearing a simple locket around her neck, which was given to her by her long-departed mother before she passed.

Nestled in the woods of of Northern Brindleton is the tiny cabin to which the newlyweds returned home. There may be tiles slipped from the roof, and paint flaking off the walls, but it's home, and it's theirs. Within the four small walls, nothing seems to touch their happiness.

NEW SIMBLR ALERT
Tumblr media
Sul Sul! Hello
Dear readers, It's with great joy and enthusiasm that I make my first post in this space.
My name is Ellie, a young girl of twenty-one years who is passionate about the universe of The Sims; if I had one last wish, it would be to spend hours upon hours creating stories with my Sims. My passion in the game is the Decades Challenge, so I decided to create my own challenge and share my story here.
I must confess that I am new to the simblr world; I have never had a simblr, and I have never managed one. This is my first (I am so excited)! Therefore, I am still learning how everything works here. Additionally, English is not my first language, and I fiercely struggle with English grammar. So, there may be some strange words and errors; please bear with me <3.
I have a very interesting and exciting story to share. I can't wait for you to meet the characters. I have spent countless hours dedicated to each member of the founding family, shaping their personalities, exploring their fears, dreams, and ambitions. Each character is unique, with their own journey and contribution to the story that I am eager to share with you.
Tumblr media
I'm looking for other active players of the Decades Challenge <3 I already consider all of you my BESTIES.

A letter to Matthew Dailey from his daughter Agnes, 189x
Dearest Papa,
I miss you, don’t ever doubt for a moment that I do. I can hardly believe its been this long since Will and I left, I do hope that you might be able to come and visit us soon. You’d find that things are humming along very nicely here, we have a full field of crops – a cash crop, Will says. I didn’t understand it at first, but he insisted that its what all the farmers are doing these days and will prove to be a much better payout versus a regular assortment of differing crops.
I suppose it makes enough sense when you really think about it, but I’m not sure how comfortable I am at the thought of sinking all our money into just one crop. What if a storm were to blow through and destroy everything?
Oh well, I suppose I needn’t dwell on it too much.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the very least, we were finally able to purchase our cow after months of saving, and we have a fine bunch of chickens as well. Will has also built me a couple of planter boxes as well so that I may plant my own little garden, full of food I can feed our family with. We’re not quite where we want to be yet, but Will is confident that we’ll receive a bountiful harvest by the end of the summer. I only pray that he is right.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I’m sure Aunt Winifred has told you by now, as I know it is quite literally impossible for her to keep anything to herself, but you are to become a grandfather in just a few short months! Yes, it seems our crops are not the only things that are steadily growing around here, as I have discovered myself to be expecting. Other than the occasional fit of morning sickness I have been coping well enough, and Will has been an absolute dear. Oh how he fusses over me so, I can barely take a step forward without him rushing over to see if I'm alright. I think it will be both a relief and joy for both of us once the baby finally arrives, and I’m sure this will give you even more reason to come and visit us, I know that you will be very eager to meet your first grandchild.
Give my love to auntie for me.
Your loving daughter,
Mrs. Agnes Barclay

Agnes wasn’t well.
She hadn’t been for a while now and she was about to go mad over it. Nothing she ate could seem to stay down long enough, and she couldn’t seem to get out of bed without feeling incredibly light-headed. At first, she’d thought she might be coming down with a fever, but it hadn’t seemed to be contagious as Will was proving to be just fine, and she doubted it could’ve been something she’d eaten since the only food she’d been eating lately had been her own and she liked to think she was a better cook than that. Whatever it was certainly wasn’t causing her to waste away, as she’d begun to find difficulty in properly fitting into her dresses and skirts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That had only left one conclusion. One reasonable explanation, why a married woman would fall mysteriously ill.
She didn’t say anything to Will at first, not until she was sure. She’d spent time writing to Aunt Winifred about it, and after several letters and several more symptoms later, Aggie seemed to have the confirmation that she’d needed.
She knew for sure, that she and Will were about to be given a most precious gift.
Tumblr media
He’d arrived home from work one evening and no sooner than he had, did she break the news to him.
“Will, darling, I have some wonderful news,” she said. “I think...well, I think I’m with child.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For a moment, Will only stood there in complete shock. When the moment had passed and the news fully settled in, he broke out into a wide smile, lifting his wife into his arms and spinning her around in a fit of joy before setting her back down, placing a gentle kiss on her lips. Although he’d hoped for the farm to be in a better place financially before they’d begun their family, the news was nonetheless welcomed and he doubted that anything else could make him happier than he was at this moment.

"If you'll listen, I'll sing you a sweet little song, Of a flower that's now drooped and dead, Yet dearer to me, yes, than all of its mates, Tho' each holds aloft its proud head 'Twas given to me by a girl that I know Since we've met, faith, I've known no repose, She is dearer by far than the world's brightest star, And I call her my wild Irish Rose"
The sound of his wife’s light, lovely voice flowed out into the foyer as Will entered the house. A long day of sowing seeds and digging in the dirt had left him a sweaty, exhausted mess, yet somehow none of that seemed to matter when he came home to his beloved Aggie. There she would be, in the kitchen preparing dinner and singing and humming to herself, all the while doused in flour and her hair all a muss.
Nevertheless, she was such a pretty sight to him. Always had been, always would be.

"My wild Irish Rose, The sweetest flow'r that grows, You may search ev'rywhere, But none can compare With my wild Irish Rose. My wild Irish Rose, The dearest flow'r that grows, And some day for my sake, She may let me take The bloom from my wild Irish Rose"
He joined in as he entered the kitchen, his deep resounding voice harmonizing with her sweet soprano tone, wrapping his arms around her as she looked back at him with a beaming smile. That same, beautiful smile he’d fallen in love with all those years ago when they’d first met.
It was probably his favorite sight he'd ever beheld. No amount of crops, no fish, no livestock, could compare to seeing a smile on his Aggie’s face.
That alone was worth more to him than any money in the world.
