Ha, I got y'all!
When she first tried candy corn, she hated it; but she can't stop eating it now - TRUE
This was originally canon in Part One, but I had to cut the chapter it was in because it served no purpose!
I had the kids throw a Halloween Party, and one of the activities there was one of those "guess how many candy corn in the jar" and in a deleted scene, Carmen ended up accidentally winning. She tried it then, the above happens.
Unfortunately I have not found a place to include this again, but I WILL eventually, so it is true, just a matter of when I can include it.
Once corrected the grammar of her professor's syllabus (and turned it in to her) - TRUE
I mean, how unprofessional, right? Carmen was genuinely trying to help, though, that's what's funny.
She was of course bothered personally by it. The professor was uh...mildly irritated, but kinda respected the boldness.
Reorganized the entire Alii power database for being "improperly constructed" as a teen - LIE
Yeah I know this sounds like something she would do, especially since the classifications seem arbitrary, but that's kinda what Carmen likes about it. She is the queen of arbitrary order. Everything goes in a specific order. She's the kind of person who puts the dishes in alphabetical order.
Speaking of which, the one thing she doesn't like is that the database is completely organized by rarity. Sure, different classes make sense, maybe even the powers, but subpowers? Why can't that be alphabetical order?!! She hates navigating it because her notes are alphabetized.
However, she did not reorganize the entire database for being improperly constructed. The subpowers should be alphabetical, and that's her only gripe.
Thanks for playing!

Heads Up, Seven Up Tag
Thanks so much to @illarian-rambling for the tag!
Rules: post seven lines you wrote and tag friends to play along.
From Ink of Destruction:
"You did what? That is nonsensical." Before I could stop myself, the words were blurted out, and I knew there was no way to take them back.
Mr. Waiter sighed, his shoulders falling as though thick history textbooks had been placed atop them. "Oh, Alex.”
Before I could decipher the impatience that sprinkled in his eyes, the man turned towards the box the sword had been originally placed in as he continued. "Recall to me what you witnessed this morning: the Constitution of the United States of America vanished from existence—of which it’s reasonable of me to suspect you believe, and to the point, you are also to believe that, that pen was doing unusal things—such that you sought me out for questioning." Adjusting his grip upon the sword, he made his way to its box, and carefully placed it back inside.
This scene has been so much fun to revise. I love it. I should really talk about this insane novel more lol.
Tagging, with no pressure: @kaylinalexanderbooks @meerawrites @thestarsfightagainstusmyfriend @sunset-a-story and leaving this open for anyone else who wants to play!

Oh that makes it more fun lol
And got it 👍🏻
💛 In general, how in control of their emotions is your OC? Do they have a good hold on them or do their emotions control them, not the other way around? What do you think is the reason behind this and is your OC ever concerned about their lack of or good control?
Anyone you want!!
Oooooh thanks for the ask!
So the main character answers would be the easy ones to go with (Belladonna: good at hiding them but not dealing with them, Cassie: bad, Nellie: probably the best of the three) but I’m going to use this as an opportunity to rant about a pirates’ roost side character because a) I love them and b) they are my literal best OC for this question
This character’s name is Julian and I’ll attach a picrew of them but long story short they’re the ship’s doctor of the Belligerent and they’re the single calmest, most placid character I’ve ever written. Julian has an iron grip on their emotions. There is exactly one (1) scene in all of the Pirates’ Roost where Julian actually yells at someone and it’s when someone repeatedly accuses them of being the perpetrator in an assault they endured when they were younger. They’re very calm but they have a will of iron - Julian won’t yell at you because they don’t need to. They can make you feel dressed-down within an inch of your life without ever raising their voice.
As for why they’re like this, it’s almost entirely because of their mother, who is one of the most strong-willed women on the plane. Julian inherited her strong will, but they also learned real quick that yelling at her or getting aggressive would get their ass whooped with her wooden spoon, so they stopped trying. Julian isn’t at all concerned about how level-headed they are - both in their home when they were younger and on the Belligerent, someone has to be.
Julian looks like this:
Tumblr media
Lmk if you have any questions about them because I love them and am 100% down to talk about them a ton. They have a brief appearance in the Pirates’ Roost Part 2 atm but we’ll definitely see more of them
Thanks for the ask!

From The Secret Portal Part Two (George POV)
Damian turned the monitor toward me. “Superspeed.” I blinked. Then a smile stretched across my face. “That’s actually helpful! Dad was working on how to reverse chronokinetic freezing using superspeed!” “Georgie, that is amazing news, but it will be hard to convince Jef to listen.” “I just need to find my dad’s journals!” I wondered if just running would make my power kick in. I ran out the door and down the hall, feeling a charge within me until an orange flash of lightning traveled around my vision. I ran to the door where my dad used to work and pressed the button. The door slid open at a painfully slow rate. I tried to turn off my new powers. “George!” Damian called from down the hall. The door slid open at a normal rate. “It’s late! We’ll continue this in the morning! Let’s go to bed.” I looked into the dark room, the cold air rushing past me. “Okay,” I said, pressing the button to close the door. Down the hall, Damian nodded, turning slightly. My thoughts now raced faster than ever, and after a half-second of an hour-long debate, the lightning appeared in my vision as I ran into the lab. I looked through the shelves until I found my dad’s tablet, gathering dust like no one had consulted it in months. I ran back to the hall and hit the tablet in my pocket with my personal one before going back to normal time. The door closed. I followed Damian around the hall, feeling slightly light-headed, but a drive for tomorrow.

Writing tip of the day: whenever you can, plug a plot hole with a character flaw!
Every time you realise that it makes no sense that the characters didn't do some super logical thing in the first place, figure out which character could have prevented it by simply the way they are as a person. You're not only solving the problem of the plot hole, but also the issue of writing flaws into your characters in a way that doesn't feel gratituous and contrived.
Why did the characters not use this weapon they had access to the whole time? - The character who could have told them about it wants to have control over people and had personally decided they shouldn't have it.
Why didn't that one genius character just tell everyone how to dismantle the robots? - They meant to, but being an absent-minded genius, they literally just forgot.
How did nobody notice that this little girl has been hanging out with an actual demon for seven years? - The demon made her pinky-promise not to tell anyone about it, and being naive and overly trusting, she didn't find that sketchy at all.
Why didn't the characters go to The Big Cool Guys for help in the first place? - The character who is stubborn and overly proud wanted to choose death before dishonour and didn't want to ask for help.
Every time there was a perfectly reasonable solution accessible to the characters all along, that could've resolved the whole plot in minutes, always try to find an angle where someone prevented it just by who they are as a person.

Last Line Rewrite Tag
Thanks so much for the tag @kaylinalexanderbooks!
Rules: Rewrite the person who tagged you's line, and post your last line!
Kaylin's line:
“How’re you and Niri? I accidentally found out you texted him.” “We’re fine.” Hannah smiled a bit. “Is that a hint of red on your cheeks?” I asked. “Now, don’t you start,” Hannah said, pointing harshly. “I had to deal with Charlie and Amanda grilling me about the boy I was texting in your absence.” I smiled. “I’ll come save you.” “Thank you.” Hannah swung the door open and we went back into the crowded family room. I tried to ignore the devices pulling me back.
My rewrite:
"How are you and Niri?" Ash asked her sister. "I didn't mean to, but I know you texted him." "We're great." Hannah grinned. "Are you blushing?" "Don't start. I already had to deal with Charlie and Amanda while you were gone. I can't deal with much more." She complained. "Don't you worry, I'll save you." Ash said with a smile. "Thank you." Hannah opened the door, leaving her sister to return to the packed family room. Ash struggled to ignore the telepathic probes that tied her to her sister as she left.
My line: (From Project H.A!)
She was six years old and sitting at the dining room table, the dense potato warming her from the inside out. She smiled wide, forcing her eyes closed. Her whole face scrunched up in enjoyment, and her eyes crinkled at the corners. "Yummy." She said. Her father stood in the kitchen next to the sink, quickly eating a bowl of cereal. "It’s good?" He asked with a smile. "It's great!" She exclaimed.

Last Line Tag
I was tagged by @kaylinalexanderbooks and @writingmoth <3
Now the problem with editing is that I never feel like I have a last line, but today I did a change that was more than just shoveling commas from one sentence into another, so here we go.
“Don’t!” She scrambled back to her feet on her own, clinging to the edge of the table. “Don’t touch me!” She allowed a hint of hysterics into her voice to give her performance the finishing touch. “This is your fault. You are making a mess of my home just because someone smeared blood at my door!”
And I am gonna tag, if you want to do it, @winterandwords @little-peril-stories and whoever else wants to pick one up!

9- Write about your ship getting dressed up in fancy outfits together.
Listen, AriEdwardTune, maybe they gotta infiltrate somewhere and gotta go undercover, maybe it's just someone else hosting a party (my brain supplied AnaLucia wedding as an example 👀) but either way
Hot
~ M <3
"It's a party, you have to dress nicely," Neptune had insisted, much to Ari's affront as he looked down at his oil-stained hands and worse-for-wear waistcoat.
"And I don't dress nicely?"
"Well...it's not the style, so much the..." Neptune gestures loosely, before glancing over at Edward, who only slips away from the conversation as though he were never there in the first place.
But an argument was always pointless, because Neptune always won, and he always let her.
Which is how he found himself wearing the deep tones of crimson red amongst his familiar and comfortable black. It was the most he would allow. The waistcoat, embellished in these floral swirls, standing firmly against the charcoal black of his shirt and trousers.
He still misses his monochromatic style; the comfortable grey wasn't a broken feat of his wardrobe - and thus did not need fixing.
The jacket was that same deep red, startling to look at. He felt almost foolish as he slid it on. This was a suit for a younger man, he felt, and someone twice as attractive as himself.
Ari greased his curls back, pinning them neatly to some semblance of control, but allowing some strays to fall forward of his forehead. He considered faking an illness, his red cheeks redder and body tense with unfamiliar anxiety. He was not the social butterfly that his partners were. It's largely why he had the two of them - so they could entertain each other whilst he locked himself in a dark room, neither speaking nor moving.
Neptune's demanding knock tore his gaze away from his petrified expression, just in time for her to step into the room. Suddenly it really didn't matter much. No-one would be looking at him, because she was absolutely beautiful. She was always beautiful, of course, but for a moment his mind turned over and his heart stuttered, and air became a scarcity far removed from his lungs.
She looked like a drawing of the sea he'd seen once - or at least that's his approximation. Her blue curls soft, the cobalt dress flowing the same way air might. She sparkled in the light of the room from the jewellery.
To him, she may as well as been as rare and precious as that untainted water, frozen in time, beautiful enough for an artist to sketch. If he had the hands for it, he might've entertained the thought himself.
"We're waiting for you," she smiled, pretending not to notice his dazed expression, though her chin raised a little higher - and that smirk was undeniable.
Edward was just as much of a sight to behold. He'd spent the better half of the day putting his braids in, claiming both excitement and exhaustion at different phases.
He'd made an effort, in some way, to match Ari's style, but the darkened red was replaced with a shining, brilliant gold. Which much matched Edward's personality, Ari thought to himself, enraptured by the way his lover almost seemed to radiate light.
He'd been reminded of the two of them, sat on the windowsill smoking and drinking, looking up at a shooting star expectantly, discussing the old world tradition of wishes. What he would wish for. But in truth the wish had already been granted and the only star he needed was right there.
A little winded by it all, he leaned his head against the doorway and exhaled. "You both look amazing," he uttered, feeling as though he meant to shrink away from them both.
"As do you," Edward whispered, hand suddenly on Ari's chest, "...I love this colour on you," the words hold an edge he rarely hears in Edward's voice, something that returns the blush to his cheeks in full force.
"You look good enough to eat," Neptune presses a warm, lingering kiss on his hot cheek, her fingers intertwining gently in his own "...but for now, sadly, we do have a party to attend."
"That we do," Ari whispered, more than a little flustered. He clears his throat, "...but I'm glad you like it."

Personality through quote tag
Thanks to @kaylinalexanderbooks for the tag! This is a new one for me.
📝 Have your OCs respond to a given prompt then give the people you tagged a prompt.
My prompt was "A quote about a weird habit they/someone else has" and I'm answering for the guys from Spin Cylinder...
Tumblr media
NOAH
Brett buys multiples of clothes he likes. The latest was ten pairs of identical black vicuna wool socks that he bought at the same time because he was high when he went into the shop and decided his other socks would never be soft enough again.
BRETT
The compulsive tidiness. Noah's, not mine. I don't give a shit. I might even mess things up for entertainment purposes because he gets so twitchy about it.
Tumblr media
Tagging @deanwax, @diphthongsfordays and @drabbleitout if you'd like to do it with an open tag for anyone else who wants to join in.
The prompt for your characters is "A quote about something comparatively trivial that disproportionately annoys them" 💙
Reblogs, replies etc on my tag posts are always welcome, but if you're doing this tag yourself, please make your own post instead of using mine to start a reblog chain.

Yes, I love it!
OC interview
Thanks to @bloodmoonloveletter here, @mk-writes-stuff here, @illarian-rambling here, and @elsie-writes here!
Last did Wade here.
Doing Jazlyn now because I don't talk about her enough and I'd like to develop her character more!
Are you named after anyone?
“Nope. The one and only, girl. I'm just Jazlyn!”
When was the last time you cried?
“Oh, pfft! I don't cry. Maybe out of sheer boredom listening to Dr. Ass-ghar ramble on about her rules and how I'm not following them! Like, girl, I can't help that I have fire powers and lit something on fire! That would be like getting mad that Gabe got a little dirty. Oh, and her meetings are the wooorst. Yeah crying for my life in there.” [It was during Ewan's clarinet solo actually]
Do you have kids?
“Girl, what? I'm not even eighteen yet! Close... I'd love kids, honestly. A lot of them! I'd have so much fun with them!”
Do you use sarcasm a lot?
“Look, I know I come across as someone who uses sarcasm, but I'd rather just flat out say what I'm thinking. Why be like ‘wow that was so riveting’ when I could say, ‘this is the most boring crap I have ever seen in my entire life’? So much easier, no mental hoops. Besides, Ewan is the most oblivious to sarcasm I have ever seen.”
What’s the first thing you notice about people?
“Their confidence level. I can usually tell how someone feels about themselves based on how they stand. Posture is the key, but also what they're doing with their hands.”
What’s your eye colour?
“Brown. With some golden flecks when the light hits them right, according to Ewan.”
Scary movies or happy endings?
“Easy, scary movies. This question is stupid - they aren't opposites. However, nothing is more fun than a horror movie. Love getting the blood pumping. Yelling at the characters for being massive dummies is also the best. Horror is the most entertaining to watch with others. Ewan thank the Lord is also a horror enthusiast. We make a habit to have at least one or two horror movie nights a month.”
Any special talents?
“Oh, several. I am pretty athletic. Took cheerleading a while back and now I am on my high school basketball team. At first, I wasn't sure I would like basketball - my coach in middle school pulled me aside and recommended it due to my height, but I love it now. I am also getting pretty good at learning archery. Lighting the arrows on fire makes that more exciting. I am also pretty good at martial arts and my pyrokinesis. Working on breathing fire without burning my throat. Thank the Lord I have Wade to heal me so I can try again!”
Where were you born?
“I was born in flippin' Utah. I know--lily white state, you'd never guess. Ewan and I plan to move somewhere else once we can. Can you believe he was born in Alium? That ain't fair.”
Do you have any pets?
“Ewan and I plan to one day get a dog. We have been planning on moving in together for a while.”
What sort of sports do you play?
“Like I said, basketball. I would love to learn how to play this Alii fireball sport. It's very similar to basketball, but pyrokinetics pass around fire. That sounds like so much fun, man. Did you know they have to keep a healer at each game because not all pyrokinetics are immune to fire? And the audience can get hit too if they're not careful! This sounds like such a fun sport.”
How tall are you?
“I have finally passed six-foot-three. Alii heights are a blessing and a curse.”
What was your favourite subject in school?
“I hope you tell me PE counts as a subject cause I ain't saying anything else. School sucks, girl. I have gotten detention for the lamest reasons imaginable.”
What is your dream job?
“I would love to be in sales. Something about convincing people to do what I want is inticing. Planning on getting a marketing degree when I go to college next year.”

@kaylinalexanderbooks got me twice. So I guess I should do this thing.
