im creating a regulus that is such a whore (he flirts by making eye contact and staring at you with big bug eyes that are actually startling and unsettling)(he's perfect)
wolfstar and dorlene double dates where it's just dorcas and marlene getting extremely competitive over bowling and are now on their fifth game because the loser of the previous games keeps calling for a rematch, whilst sirius and remus left after the first game ended and are now playing in the arcade (remus is trying to win a stuffed dog from the claw machines for sirius but has run out of money and is calling james to ask for a loan and sirius has started babysitting a bunch of ten year olds and is teaching them how to play the motorbike racing game)
Fully believe Sirius had a plan to kidnap Reg when he finished school and lock him in James' basement to keep him out of the war. So he couldnt get hurt or be persuaded into hurting anyone else.
Except Sirius underestimated Reg's investment in the war; he wanted to be one of the people fighting to make a change in their society not a child waiting to grow into it. He signed up for the war long before he left school and he turned on Voldemort before then too.
He goes to the cave just before the end of his 7th year and Sirius, who never saw his brother as motivated or willful, is too late.
“That's Dorcas Meadowes, Voldemort killed her personally..."
A cute little dorlene series (a little bit more focused on Dorcas bc I love her so much) for #lesbianvisibilityweek and as we say in french bravo les lesbiennes !!
After the war, when everyone who's left starts to settle back down, Lily takes up her potions experiments again.
Regulus helps. He hates to do nothing and there's a whole lot of nothing to do now that Riddle is defeated, for him at least, he didnt make any plans for after, didn't expect there to be one.
He knows she used to have a different partner for this, one who knew far better what he was doing with a cauldron, who had a natural instinct for it that Regulus himself lacks. Severus was a real talent, he and Lily basically rewrote the NEWT textbook when they were still OWL students. Regulus only got an O in his OWL by memorising the textbook and his NEWTs aren't worth talking about. (He was busy, okay? There was another potion to deal with.)
Its not the first time he's been the lesser replacement in the eyes of someone he cares about, only there to fill the position because he was better behaved.
Lily, he thinks, resents this less than his mother did.
He's definitely more assistant than partner, and she seems to get more stuck than she's accustomed to, now that she's carrying almost all the weight of innovation and not just half. But all her disappointment seems focused far away, on someone else, and maybe occasionally on herself for missing that someone else. She's happy enough with what Regulus does, his focus and precision and patience, which the rest of her friends seem to lack.
For the first time, his effort seems like the important thing, not his talent but how he tries to get it right, the potion and the good behaviour both. That's never really happened before. He finds he doesn't mind either, that he's not The Best. He's just alright. He doesn't know what to with that.
I wrote some stuff about lily and sirius talk about their siblings last night and while I'm not sure that I like it I've decided to post it. Also heres my AO3 which I guess I've never needed to post before. okay here it is:
"I did everything I could-" Lily said, but even as the words came out she knew that they were a lie. She stopped herself and sighed, but then she did something that neither of them had been expecting. She told the truth. "No, I didn't."
"What?" Sirius looked over at her, eyebrows high, but Lily didn't see his expression. She didn't even look at him. She just stared out at the sky. It was an unspoken rule that they didn't look at each other on nights like these. When they sat at the top of the astronomy tower, moping and looking for someone to trade burdens with.
Lily's confession shocked them both, but she just stared straight ahead into the night and kept talking. "I didn't do everything I could. I could've- I should've written more. And when I was back for breaks I should have tried harder, to talk to her, and to keep up with her interests."
Sirius looked back out the window, going back to following the unspoken rule, but Lily had hardly noticed his gaze at all too lost in her regret to even really be aware of the boy sitting next to her.
"I shouldn't have let Sev take over my life back home, and I really shouldn't have picked fights with her." Lily sighed. "but she's just been so cold since I left. I felt like fighting with her was the only time when I could even get through to her- or not get through to her, but, talk to her?"
Sirius nodded looking out at the night sky. The moon was a sliver in the sky, but the stars were out and they lit up the sky well enough. Without even meaning to Sirius sought out the Regulus star. "I didn't do enough either," Sirius admitted and they sat in silence for a beat before he continued. "I pushed him away. I knew what they expected from him- from us, but I was so determined to not be what they wanted that in my efforts to be different, to be better, I isolated him."
Lily nodded. "I feel like I abandoned her." She whispered her confession to the darkness, but Sirius heard anyway and this time it was his turn to nod.
There were several moments of quiet before Sirius gave up one more confession, one more secret to the sky.
