Lost and Found

Earlier this year, Rec' Fest founder Scarlet (@givereadersahug) started out on this adventure of setting up a fest to celebrate all the works in a fandom she held so dear.

31 days' of prompts and over 1,000 fic recommendations later, we come bearing the heart-breaking news the Scarlet never lived long enough to see the end of her beloved fest.

After a hospitalisation in early December, Scarlet allowed Danni (@danpuff-ao3) and myself Coco (@coconutice22) to join her on this reccing adventure to help support her.

Even while she dealt with her health struggles throughout the month, she remained dedicated to the fest. Though she passed away on the 26th, Scarlet's brilliant organisation meant the daily posts for each day's prompt were already set up. A post to announce the fest was finishing was already set up and queued to post the exact day and time she thought best.

Before we even knew of her passing, she had herself continued her own legacy with these posts.

Scarlet was an incredible person. Her passion for fandom and her kindness to people in fandom (both new and old) led to a reputation of someone who was brilliant, who was giving, who put the work in to bring fans together and to celebrate the characters and ships she loved so much beyond anyone else. She was so incredibly humble about it all, too, never expecting anyone to praise her.

There truly is no send-off more fitting to her spirit than this fest. Danni and I hope to keep this going, to keep up the energy and to keep Scarlet's love around in the world.

Scarlet, we miss you more than words can say, and can only hope that you'd be proud.

Tomorrow, we'll post a round-up for the fest as Scarlet would have wanted. It was the final post she had prepared for this fest, and it means everything to us that even in that, she's with us showing us how she wanted this fest completed.

Thank you to everyone who has joined in on this inaugural HP Rec Fest, and who helped to celebrate and perpetuate Scarlet's vision of spreading positivity and love in the world.
