Finishing off the weekend at the golf course. Met up with my Dad just to hit the driving range but then we decided to play the par 3 course. It's been years since I've played on a course but I had some nice swings and did pretty well when it came to the putts. Something a little different today. 400m run 3 minute one arm long cycle with 24kg at 10 reps a minute. Done 4 times It was nice to break it up for a bit and not just straight lifting all the time. I also had to take advantage of the beautiful morning. As for the lifts I've been working towards ten reps a minute. Once again made one of my favorites. Pad Thai: brown rice noodles, broccoli, tofu, bell pepper, onion, and garlic. The tofu was seasoned with paprika and pepper and it was cooked with the veggies instead of it on its own. @wholefoods has an addicting peanut and coconut sauce that I use every time. It's been quite some time since I've done heavier two bell work. 10 sets of 30 seconds on and off two arm jerk with 20kg. Took a bit of getting used to but it went well. Got a good workout out of it and focused on strength. 4 minutes of slow snatch with 24kg with 3 breaths at bottom and top. This is one of my favorite sets to do. I always feel comfortable with this one and I felt good swing the 24. Finished off with a run with my best time so far. What a satisfying Sunday morning run! Woke up early even with the time change and looked outside. A cold and beautiful morning and I knew I had to get out for a bit. This is the most I've done in one sitting so far and I felt great. Just like in kettlebell, you need a solid pace to prevent burnout. I just kept going until I hit my limit and before I knew it I was at the 3 mile mark. The 5k I want to participate in is in July so at this point I'm practically there! All of this running I've been doing has been helping my kettlebell game tremendously. Satisfying Saturday session working with a 24kg bell. Did 10 rounds of 2 minutes on and 1 minute off. The first five rounds were one arm jerk and the second five rounds were one arm long cycle. The video is the last of the jerk portion. I felt great with this set. Today was all about strength training and I felt comfortable through the whole set. Finished the day with a 10 minute row. I'll be running tomorrow to finish up the week. The gym was busy today. Longer set today! It's the first one in the last couple of weeks and I was excited for this one. 16 minutes with a 16kg. The target pacing was 12 reps a minute. I was able to comfortably hit those numbers. I did 14 reps during the last minute. I kept telling myself through the set that this was exactly like all the running I've been doing lately. Finished up the session with 4 rounds of 10 each arm lunge row with a 24kg bell 10 dead swing with a 28kg bell 30 jump squats While it's only three different things a 4 rounds it was one hell of a challenge. Like I've said if this were easy I wouldn't be doing it. I love the different challenges that this sport provides. Just another Thursday in the books. New training week while #ontheroadtoworlds. 6min slow snatch with 20kg with three breaths at bottom and top. 5min snatch with 18kg hitting 20 reps a minute. 5min one arm long cycle with 18kg hitting 12 reps a minute. On these sets I'm only doing one switch. At first it felt strange because I'm used to switching every minute but I'm getting used to it again. Focusing on conditioning with the faster reps. Did another mile run to finish off the set. I'm enjoying all the running I've been doing lately. Nice to freshen things up a bit. This weekend's #ontheroadtoworlds training log. Saturday: The lifts went well. Hit all of the rep numbers. It felt good getting back in the heavier weights since the qualifiers. I still need to do some adjusting on the breathing patterns and I will be all set. Wrapped it up with a 15 minute row. Today I had the itch to go run. I didn't yesterday because the weather was a little too bad. This morning though it was beautiful out so I went to a local park and hit the track. I kept going and going until I felt I hit my limit. Went 2.45 miles without stopping. This made me feel great because I was never able to do that much before. I want to run a 5k this summer after Hungary so this is the step in the right direction. So it took me longer to process this because honestly I was speechless when this happened. I got the letter yesterday and I needed time to soak it all in and process it. I made it. I'm going to Hungary in June and I'm participating in the world championships. Over six years ago this would've never been something I would have thought about when I started my kettlebell journey. It was just a chance that I missed a message that a jiu jitsu class was cancelled that morning and @real_coach_saiko asked if I would be interested in trying out kettlebell that day. I figured that I was already at the gym so why not. From there on I've never looked back. If you told me back then that I would be doing this I would have told you that you were insane for thinking that. Fast forward to now and this is where that road has taken me. Hell a pulmonary embolism almost took my life and I didn't think I was going to be doing this ever again at that point. None of that matters anymore. This moment is one I will remember for a lifetime. I want to thank the American Kettlebell Lifters Union/Team USA for the opportunity for me to go. For all the people that have been at my side for their amazing love and support through everything, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You all know who you are. #crazymonkeykettlebellclub is part of my family. Last but not least this is also for the people that have been affected by blood clots. Not only am I representing the country, my friends and family, this one is for you too. Every single rep. Now it's on to the next phase. It's time to put all that work I've done for the last six months to the next level. I usually tend to do my own recipes when it comes to my kitchen work. Tonight I felt like doing something a bit different. I got out my @gordongram cookbook and made this pasta dish, but I made it #vegan! Pasta, peas, seitan bacon with a dairy free cream sauce. Put some Italian seasoning and pepper for a twist. First post comp lift. Did a bit of work with the 16kg bell. One arm long cycle for 4 minutes and snatch for 4 minutes. It was nice to go back to doing a snatch lift again as it's been awhile. Hit all the reps per minute numbers. Also did a 4 minute clean set with a 20kg bell. Both bells used were @pro_kettlebell Apollo bells. Did my own ab GPP that consisted of ab wheel and a minute plank for 4 rounds. See the pattern? It was nice to mix it up and I had quite a bit of fun with this one. I'm going to be ramping up my conditioning because that can always be improved. My main focus is getting faster and well paced because longer sets do get a little intense at times. After the set I stuck around and watched Paul and Patchen rock another ten minute set for the California Open. Paul and Patchen are long time members of the kettlebell community and it was truly inspiring to watch especially after doing this comp five days after the qualifiers. Great job! Simple one pan dinner. Plant based chicken, brussel sprouts, bell pepper, onion, and gravy. Seasoned with garlic powder and pepper. Cook the veggies to your liking. I like to go for char marks that make it look like the veggies have been caramelized and roasted. Season with the garlic powder and pepper. Put the plant based chicken. To heat up and mix in the gravy. Today was my first post comp workout. It's tempting to go back to what I was doing and lifting heavy but that's not what this week is about. This week is about decompressing and resting up. I've been working hard for the last six months so it's time to rest up for a bit and have some fun. I didn't lift any bells today so I went with a nice body weight workout. Pushups, v-ups, situps, and some row for four rounds. After that I peppered in some squats. It felt great to move around a bit and I recovered nicely from the weekend. This is why I love training.
