All Clear: Log4j Vulnerability Does Not Affect Gyazo and Other Services by Nota
We're happy to share that all web services provided by Nota including Gyazo, Scrapbox, and Helpfeel are not affected by the recent Apache Log4j vulnerability (CVE-2021-44228).
Essentially, this is a critical vulnerability in a tool used to log data by many web sites. It has a high potential for abuse when sites are not updated and secured.
In the case of Nota, we wanted to let you know that we have confirmed none of our services are affected by this vulnerability. Keep reading to learn more about each of our service's status and to get information from official sources about the vulnerability.
All three of our services have some integration with each other, so we're letting you know about all three.
Gyazo
Some middleware (a type of internal feature) used in the service had a dependency on Apache Log4j, but we have confirmed that it is not affected by the vulnerability.
In addition, the various Gyazo clients such as Gyazo for Windows, Gyazo for iOS, etc. do not use Apache Log4j and are not affected by the vulnerability.
Scrapbox
Again, some middleware used in the service itself had a dependency on Apache Log4j, but we have confirmed that it is not affected by the vulnerability.
Helpfeel
This vulnerability does not affect Helpfeel because it does not use Apache Log4j.

Updates to browser support
Thank you for using Gyazo and Gyazo Teams.
We've made some updates to the supported browsers for Gyazo (including Gyazo Teams.) These updates are based on recent announcements about the retirement of Internet Explorer 11 and Microsoft Edge moving to Chromium technology in particular.
What's new
Current support for each OS and browser has been clarified. See below.
The version of each OS is not specified, and the most recent up to date version is assumed.
Only the latest versions of Microsoft Edge (MS edge) based on Chromium will be supported.
Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) is no longer supported. If you are using an unsupported browser including IE 11, please switch to using a supported browser.
Fully supported web browsers
The currently supported browsers and operating systems are shown below. Note that this table refers to the latest stable version of each web browser.
Image viewing
The way Gyazo behaves in unsupported browsers has changed, including Internet Explorer 11.
When you access an image page (any Gyazo page with a link like this https://gyazo.com/eb1339b2ef4e93e0d1e51766523de9ff ), you will be redirected to the direct image link.
As a result, you can still view images, but you will not be able to view the /captures page or to see and edit the image details.
If you are affected by this change, you'll need to start using a fully supported browser.
Gyazo applications
If your operating system is out of date or is not supported you may not be able to upload, view images, or use other features of the Gyazo website or applications for Windows, macOS, Android, or iOS.
It may be hard for us to provide customer support in these cases. We apologize for the inconvenience, and ask that you use a supported operating system as well as browser.
Changes to IE11 and MS Edge support
For some time now we have informed people on our help page that we do not recommend the use of unsupported browsers, especially IE11. However, we know some people continued to use IE11 and we continued to develop support it as much as possible while making modifications as necessary.
However, we have now stopped all updates for IE11 except for vulnerabilities. The latest features and user experience are no longer supported. Also note that Microsoft has recommended migrating to Edge since 2018.
We have also discontinued development for the older versions of MS Edge with the release of the new MS Edge based on Chromium technology in January 2020. Chromium is the core browser technology behind Google Chrome, Brave, and other major browsers.
The newer version of MS Edge is available here.
Safari support is unchanged
We will continue to support Safari with the latest stable version of mac OS only. This may not include the default version that ships with Mac OS, so please update Safari to maintain full support.

We always have asked you to use the latest browsers. While we did our best to support older browsers, sometimes this resulted in increased development costs and prevented us from providing the best experience using the latest browser features.
In light of this situation, as well as with the news from Microsoft about retiring Internet Explorer 11 and the release of the Chromium version of Microsoft Edge, we have made the decision to stop supporting these older browsers.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask that you please use a modern browser when using Gyazo such as Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. Gyazo uses the latest web browser features, including PWA (Progressive Web App) technology for uploading through our mobile apps.
We will continue to make use of the latest web browser features to improve our service for you.

Now you can see exactly what your followers will see before you tweet from Gyazo.
As always, if you tweet a capture from the Gyazo page it will be embedded on Twitter. This means your followers can view it directly without an extra click.

This is required to enable the Twitter features.
How to see Tweet previews
The tweet preview can be seen whenever you go to a Gyazo page, click share, and then click the Twitter icon.
Your tweet will be shared exactly as it appears in the preview: any text you type will be shown at the top of the tweet with any spaces or breaks you add, followed by the Gyazo page link, and the image or video will be embedded at the bottom.
After you tweet, at the top right of the page there will be a link so you can click and double check the tweet.
What do tweets from Gyazo look like?
Any images, GIFs, or video clips will look and work the same as if you uploaded them directly from Twitter. Here is an example:

Meet PlaceRebuilder, Gyazo Explore winner and creator of Reason 2 Die in Roblox
Today we have an interview with Andreas AKA PlaceRebuilder, an independent game developer working on Reason 2 Die, a popular game made with Roblox. He recently won our grand prize by sharing Gyazo game captures that got the most reactions within one month.

Can you tell me a little about your background? Are you studying or working right now?
My name is Andreas but I go under the alias of PlaceRebuilder. Sorta like Neo, except instead of being a super cool Kung-Fu fighter, I do games on a kids website. At the moment I’m not ‘actively’ studying, I’m on a break. I do some exams here and there and might jump back in later full-time.
I’m currently developing the game Reason 2 Die: Awakening. A Roblox zombie shooter game that’s been sort of a franchise ever since I was a kid. I created the first version over 10 years ago and today’s version ‘Awakening’ has been under development for about 4 years.
Which apps do you use every day / couldn't live without?
Roblox. Literally would be flipping burgers at McDonalds unless I had discovered how to make games on that site.
Gyazo I probably COULD live without but it would make the progress of sharing current development much more boring. I would only post pictures on my twitter, not fancy gifs.
Why do you think Robloxians use Gyazo to share so much?
It’s a super easy tool to fast record your screen without having to save 14GB of .avi footage on your computer like Fraps. Then easily getting a link to share with anyone is just perfect!
What do you like most about roblox? Is there something special about it compared to other games?
The simplicity and ease of use is the reason I got engaged in making Roblox games. I would be interested in making unity games as well, but there’s something about having your custom-made character available in almost any game that gives Roblox the charm that other game platforms don’t have.
My PlaceRebuilder character is clean and iconic. Being able to play a completely different game and still keep my character appearance is one of the best parts of Roblox.

What would you like to tell Gyazo users and game fans about the game you’re working on? Can you share any details about the future of the project?
Oh boi, my favorite part of this whole interview!
How would I best describe Reason 2 Die? It started off as a fan-made ‘Left 4 Dead’ game, hence the name Reason 2 Die. Besides just shooting zombies we’ve had several holiday events like Halloween and Christmas in which unique maps and Quests are added and one-time-available mounts and costumes can be obtained.
Reason 2 Die is primarily a blocky zombie shooter but occasionally I find some funny random item to add into the game that otherwise wouldn’t fit a conventional post-apocalyptic genre. One example of this is the Christmas toy plane that could be acquired during the Christmas Event 2019.
Or the Freedom flag for sale during Thanksgiving
These don’t necessarily help with completing the objectives but flying a toy plane far above zombie hoards is still such a joyful feeling!
The future of Reason 2 Die is found in new players. Right now I’m reworking the gameplay, stats and contracts as well as adding a fancy tutorial headsup to teach everyone how to play with ease.
We have some events like ‘Summer Event 2020’ coming up, but primarily I want to focus on developing a fun campaign-driven gameplay. We’ve had like 13 events (according to our wiki) and I’ve really enjoyed them all but this year I’m going to focus on gameplay instead.
What are some challenges you have with your project?Anything Gyazo could help with?
It’s sometimes difficult to record with Gyazo because if something happens in-game then don’t have time to open Gyazo, select the area to record and then start recording. By the time you’ve done that the thing you wanted to record is already gone.

If you could add one feature, what would you add to Gyazo and why?
I’d like Gyazo to have an option to pre-select the area you wish to record, then choose (with a key) when to start and stop recording. That way you could easily record highlights of your gameplay without getting headshot by a sniper for standing still trying to open the GIF program.

If you look back to when you started playing Roblox, where did you think you would end up? What would be a dream or perfect result for you?
Back when I started it was just for fun, there wasn’t even an option to make any money out of it. Then I became a broke student and heard that you could make some money from Roblox games and I came back and started creating games again.
I think the perfect result would be when I have over 100k players online and I’m top popular aswell as top earning game on Roblox. It’s not so likely to happen but a man can dream, ok?
Go for it. You can get there if you keep working and moving forward.
Is there anything you would like to say to the Gyazo Team, Gyazo users, or the gaming community in general?
I want to say thanks for the chair, it’s really flexible and my previous chair was super old and hurting my back. It’s always amazing to win a contest you didn’t know you signed up for!

...and you’re done. Your new clip will be shown while the original is still saved so you can go back at any time to make new clips.

1. No viruses, spam, or malware.
The Gyazo desktop apps on Windows and Mac have never had a virus, spam, or malware. When you download Gyazo the app does not include any other installers or add-ons so you don't need to worry about getting spam or malware.
Gyazo is a free, focused, and lightweight app.
There have been false positive virus warnings from some security apps but these mistakes were corrected quickly after contacting the companies making these apps.
Gyazo is trusted to be virus free by people around the world as well as leading tech companies in the US and Japan.
2. Strong account security, continuously improved.
Gyazo uses secure connections with strong SSL encryption to protect data transfers, storage, and web pages.
As one example of a recent security update, an extra verification step was added to prevent account access from suspicious IPs or locations. This means Gyazo user accounts are now protected even if the password is leaked by a separate app or service where it was re-used.
What’s more, all internal systems used by trusted staff to manage accounts have two-step verification and restricted access. The Gyazo development team continuously improves security and reacts to technology changes with bug bounties and regular security reviews.

Also, with a Gyazo Pro or Gyazo Teams account, image-specific passwords can be added for further access control.
4. No sale of personal data to third parties. And what about ads?
Gyazo does not sell personal user data to third parties.
Only an email address is required in order to provide account registration. You may choose a username but it does not need to be your real name.
Neither email addresses nor any other user data are provided or sold to third parties so you don’t need to worry about getting spam email.
On other websites or apps Gyazo’s advertising partners may collect and aggregate your personal data to target ads shown on Gyazo. However, you can use an ad blocker or ad privacy settings in your browser to control this. If you upgrade to Gyazo Pro all ads are removed, including for people who view your captures.
5. All payment data is protected with the best security possible.
For Gyazo Pro and Teams all payment information is processed securely by world-class payment providers Stripe or Paypal and is stored separately on their servers. This separation adds an extra layer of security between your data and any potential threats.

6. World-class hosting and transfer security.
Gyazo’s web experience is built on services provided by some of the largest and most secure technology companies in the world, notably Google Cloud Services and Cloudflare.

7. Is Gyazo made by a trustworthy company? Where does the name ‘Gyazo’ come from anyway?

Audio capture now available with Gyazo Replay
Woosh, bang, boom, crash, zoom. lol!
Now you can capture sound with Gyazo Replay.
Use it to capture moments in games, voice chats, on stream, and make how-to guides with your voice. In a few seconds you can capture HD video clips with beautiful clear audio and share in every app.
Sound capture will be rolling out to all users over the next few days but you can get it now when you download the newest version of Gyazo.

How easy is it to capture with Gyazo Replay?
Simply press Ctrl+Shift+F or click the gamepad icon to launch the app and get ready. To capture, push the same Ctrl+Shift+F and you’ll clip the last 7 seconds of sound and on-screen action (or up to 30 seconds for Gyazo Pro users.)
Note: Gyazo Gif will also let you capture new gifs and videos with sound in the future. It’s in development already.
How do I record my microphone? Are there more options?
When you capture with Gyazo Replay it records any sound on your PC including any apps, music, and your microphone if you are listening to it.
To record your microphone when you capture, go to the Windows menu -> Sound -> Recording -> Microphone -> Properties -> Listen -> click "Listen to this device." After you're done capturing you probably will want to turn this off again so you don't hear your own voice being played back.
To turn sound recording off for Gyazo Replay you can uncheck the box in the Gyazo settings panel. Open Gyazo settings by looking at the Windows notification area at the bottom right corner of your screen -> Right click the Gyazo icon -> More options -> Gyazo Replay -> Click the box next to "Record Audio."
Whenever you share a Gyazo Replay with sound your viewers can adjust the volume or mute it as usual.
Share what you see and what you hear
Hit the Replay shortcut when you want to capture interesting moment in your next game or livestream. Use it to capture quick how-to guides explaining how to use an app, explain what's happening on screen, or simply to make fun little videos.
Together with sound and full HD picture quality now you can share exactly what you're experiencing in seconds. Whether it's something to laugh about, something to be shocked by, or simplay a beautiful tune, you can grab all the sound coming from your PC and cut out all the extra steps.
Capturing magic
Sound for video captures was one of our most requested features and honestly we’re so happy we were able to deliver it. Feel free to request something you want added and we’ll always discuss it in the team and, if it makes sense, we’ll add it as soon as we can.

Dark mode highlights your captures
Dark mode is here. Now your captures can shine like the moon against a dark sky. The dark theme has been applied to the image page and also we have changed the navigation bar from our classic blue to a dark grey on all pages.
Why did we go with dark mode?
Because it looks cool?
A dark theme makes viewing captures easier on the eyes, especially when you are in the middle of a late-night session on your computer. At any time of day it provides a nice contrast and draws more focus to your captures.
As a bonus it also makes your screen use less power, extending your battery life and lowering the power bill.
What’s happening in the future with Gyazo?
We are working to give you the most simple and enjoyable way to capture and share your on-screen moments. Whether it’s screenshots, GIFs, or replays, in the end we want to show off your captures in the best possible way.

When you want to see what other people are doing in your favorite game you can check out what has been shared recently. There are so many fun game moments and things to learn that were hard to find until now.
How to share your captures on Gyazo game pages
When you capture from one of the six games above you will see a button on the image page where you can visit the game page and then click the Post now button.
From here you can select one of your recent captures and write some text for a new tweet. We will add a hashtag for that game community automatically and post it to twitter as well as to the game page. That’s all it takes to share and you have a ton you can gain from it.
Share interesting captures to get reactions, new followers, and increase your chance to win each month.
On the leader board for each game you can see Twitter accounts with the most reactions on their tweets with Gyazo captures each month. From this list we will select two people per game per month to win $25 gift cards and one lucky person will win up to $400 in elite gaming gear -- see those details below.
Note: We will use our own criteria to select winners. Mobile image pages are now Double Faster™ with AMP and no mobile ads
When I’m scrolling through twitter and tap a link to a page I want to see that page quickly. And when it loads slowly It's like slamming on the brakes. And it’s even worse if my phone has bad service.
Now Gyazo mobile pages display faster. Much faster.
To speed up page loading and streamline the experience we’ve added AMP technology and removed mobile ads. We still show ads on desktop to support some of our costs but we'll be looking at new options and ways to replace ads completely.
We may reintroduce mobile ads when they don’t impact page loading but right now the mobile page is super lean and streamlined. Like a cheetah.

We added AMP technology for blazingly fast loading.
Removing mobile ads helps speed up loading but it also allowed us to implement Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) which displays the page even faster.
If you want to nerd out a little bit you can read about AMP here. Basically it makes pages load faster on mobile by caching them in advance when they are linked from major sites like twitter or google.

Getting the right display size for retina/4K images with Content-DPR headers

This week we added support for the Content-DPR header to all screenshots and images shared with Gyazo, potentially a world first. The header makes screenshots with a Device Pixel Ratio greater than 1 display at the proper size on all screens and it’s only possible on Gyazo.
TLDR; To have your retina/4k images/screenshots viewed at the correct size on any device you can use Gyazo links or embeds. No more undesirably huge screenshots of tiny things.
In this article, I decided to focus on how images delivered by Gyazo are using the Content-DPR header. The information in this article is accurate at the time it was written.
About the Content-DPR header
The Content-DPR header details are now written as one of the HTTP Client Hints according to the editor's draft of the 7th edition HTTP Client Hints specification, removed from the IETF Draft, and are in the process of being included in the HTML specification as of a few days before this article was written.
As the name suggests, this is a header that can notify the client of the DPR (Device Pixel Ratio) of the content being delivered.
Until now, when displaying an image in HTML, it was done without considering the DPR of the content itself. For example, when embedded in HTML, a screenshot taken on a Retina display would be displayed at double the original size in both the vertical and horizontal directions. Of course, screenshots uploaded to Gyazo were the same.
The solution to this problem is the Content-DPR header. If the client such as a modern browser supports them, the Content-DPR header details are acquired at the time of display and will be used to determine the appropriate size for the content. Currently the Content-DPR header is supported by Google Chrome with the naturalWidth and naturalHeight calculated and used at the time of display.
A sample is presented below. Currently, only Chrome is supported, so please look at it with Chrome.

About the Introduction of Content-DPR to Gyazo images
Gyazo is an image-sharing service that mainly handles screenshots and is the first app where you can share scale-sensitive images from a retina display and have it displayed at the right size, such as a small UI element like a navigation bar or menu item.
Recently, we were aware that many users were taking screenshots with DPR greater than 1, such as on a Mac Retina display so naturally I was wondering if the fact that those images appear unintentionally large on your screen could be avoided. To that end, we now save the DPR when the image is uploaded and use this to provide processing that controls the display size of these images on Gyazo.
However, the images uploaded to Gyazo do not only live on Gyazo but are often expanded and viewed on Scrapbox as well as many other websites, blogs, and chat apps where the final display size may change. In such cases, it is possible to use the included DPR by using HTML embed code which can be copied easily from the share menu on any Gyazo image page.
With this change the Content-DPR header can convey the correct DPR to the client, and the client can display the image at an appropriate size. I sincerely hope you enjoy sharing screenshots that can be viewed at the proper size.
