As the leader of the Rel'Sev Princedom, Valencius Victor is as adored as he is feared. People say that the prince would do anything, no matter how immoral, to shield his people from harm. To that end, the immortal wizard has turned his country into a military powerhouse, sacrificing traditional feudal structure for a more organized military dictatorship.

When I was tasked with making this map, I really didn’t know where to start. I had to include so many things – like the ruined village, the snowy mountains, the steep peaks and so on. Luckily, I had been given a reference image that made the whole process much smoother.

This single pawn, ready for attack, is my gf’s favorite illustration of the chess series. My goal was to exaggerate realistic armor forms while still maintaining its overall pawn-ish shape. Tonlets, as it turned out, were the perfect piece of armor for this. Also, I gave it a polearm, because of course I did. No swords allowed!

Tsuki is the mother of a certain character from the book I’m currently working on. Her design bears distinct Oriental inspiration - from the costume and make-up to the war fan.
I’ve also included two Easter eggs from popular internet meme culture in this drawing. Can you find them. 😉

In one of the most popular pieces of Bulgarian literature, there is a character called "Borimechkata," which roughly translates to "Bearfighter." This time the bear fights you! If the Fox rogue I posted earlier was a twink, this is the bear daddy. His garb is inspired by traditional Bulgarian clothes worn in the late 19th century and decorated with roses, which are a staple for our traditional identity. Facial hair was also very popular at the time, so gave him a mighty mustache.

This illustration of a dollhouse is a part of the series with the kid and the therapy sessions. This was an actual dollhouse the people who commissioned it had at their studio, which was used in the sessions. Children would be asked to rearrange the house and the furniture in an exercise that would calm them down and help them feel at ease before talking about their problems. The age of this illustration is starting to show but I still remember having a lot of fun drawing it.

Arranging the chess board really does feel like setting up two battle camps. When you think about it, it is quite amazing that this classic board game will always find a way to people's tables, despite the overabundance of new board games. It will definitely always find its way to our table, at least, that's for sure.

Skeleton (mori) – Your typical folklore can not be complete without some undead, right. So, we have the Mori – the restless corpses of sinners and evildoers that come back to haunt the living. People apparently believed that bad people did not deserve a place in the afterlife and were instead left to rot in the realm of the living. The Mori’s do typical undead stuff – scare some people, kill others, have to be killed (I couldn’t find information if garlic would work, but seeing what other legends say, I would guess it would). However, here's the catch - Mori can also be the result of a tragic death. So, if you’re killed by one, regardless of whether you lived an honest life or not, you can also become one. Typical Zombie stuff.
In other news, I had to relocate (temporarily), which is why I was not consistent with uploads.

A friend of mine came to me with a curious commission – he wanted me to draw him and his colleagues (they are working at a SEGA branch, if you can’t guess by the small cushion) as a medieval court. Since this was supposed to be a gift for their boss, we obviously had to make him the king. Beside a few inside jokes my friend wanted me to include, he they trusted me with the designs, knowing my passion for this time period. As a result, I couldn’t hold myself back from including a lot of my beloved pointed shoes. They are called poulaines, by the way, and were quite disliked by Church authorities. Religious scrutiny or not, I would be thrilled to see them brought back. We need moar drip!po

"Being left by a parent is a difficult thing to swallow and, unfortunately, something you cannot do anything about. Thus, it’s ok to be sad about it, to be angry about it. Kids shouldn’t have to suppress their emotions, and grown-ups should respect that."
This is what the psychology pamphlet I worked on was trying to convey. Mental health is something we all should consider and take seriously.
While this definitely isn't my best illustration, I tried to make it as impactful as possible to fit the story the client was trying to tell.

I had a lot of fun drawing this simplistic stylized castle for the black king and queen in Chess. Funnily enough, the editors had published the first edition of this book using an earlier version of this picture that had no shadows and reflections whatsoever and lacked the stained glass window. I think they fixed it in the second edition but still, some of the people who bought it might have missed out on the full glory of this illustration

@ovenstavern Glad you like it!
As for religions, in this setting in particular, many of the peoples have a somewhat different relationship with the divines than what we are used to in real life.
However, the Obsidian Emperor is a part of a mystical religion that is more akin to the esoteric understanding of religion we have. He is a part of a dragon worshipper cult and, according to its followers, is an intermediary between the lower races and the dragons. After the latter were sealed away in ages past, the Obsidian Emperor was supposed to free them but he himself fell asleep and needs to be awaken.
Basically, these people believe that they should awaken the Emperor so he can awaken the dragons after that. They also believe that feasting, sporting events and loud music can reach the stars among which he sleeps and possibly awaken him, which is why their culture is closely tied to regular holidays and festivities.
As for other religions, well, there are a few but much of the rest of the world is in something of a religious crisis after certain events. It's not like these other peoples do not believe in gods, it's just that much of them choose not to worship them because of (among other things) the lasting influence of an anarchistic "regime" that "reigned" over most of the world two centuries ago.

The Obsidian Еmperor is a key mythical figure to one of the religions in the world I am building.
In the past, the Obsidian Emperor fought and defeated a great enemy but was left cracked and broken. The divine fell into deep slumber among the stars, awaiting the day his wound would heal.
Thousands of years later, his worshipers started to hold great feasts, sporting events and pilgrimages in hopes of waking up their patron.
Meta speaking, I've taken some inspiration from Disney’s “Atlantis: The lost Empire” for the stylization of the cracked crystal surface. After all, this legendary movie was all about crystals.

The Zmey is another one of the mythical creatures you cannot miss if you read Bulgarian folk tales and is basically our take on a dragon. While usually depicted as giant flying lizards (who would have thought), zmey can sometimes shapeshift into humans.
Some tales depict zmey as honorable protectors who ward villagers from malicious beings. Others, however, imagine them as notorious kidnappers or even maneaters.
One popular fairy tale – “The Zmey and the Princess” - sees an elderly couple adopt a young zmey who later marries the local princess.
