He is whispering, holding her hand, and at first she can’t hear him, at first she can only hear the sobs shuddering through her chest, and then his mouth is at her ear and she can hear him clear as day, as if she was back dreaming again, as if he was sitting with her by the lake, holding her hand, telling her that it’s okay, it’s okay, it’s okay.
