I love independent bookstores one because I’m supporting someone’s dream. Two they are always cuter than any non independent bookstore. Three the selection at independent bookstores always catches me by surprise. There’s always so many new authors I discover and books I’ve never seen before.

I can smell the change in the air before the rain
The wind announcing the transformation arriving

The doctor warns me of suddenly dying in my sleep, but not to worry
Am I Real
Do you exist
Am I safe
Do I matter?
The lonely cederwaxing on top of the pine trees waits for his museum to come back
Whenever I've studied my hands in the past to find love in my fortune I always found none
I've always played it cool
even with my heart on fire at all times
Wild morels sprouted in the front yard and we picked them together
You hold me tight as I'm disintegrating
I lay down on the grass and put my ear to the ground and listen to the world around me

A few nights ago I had a dream where I was talking to my dad and telling him I couldn’t breathe. I needed to wake up. I started to hyperventilate and woke up in a cold sweat. I feel like that’s the closest I can describe what Bad Cree made me feel. It’s one of those books that by the end has crawled under your skin and you’re sitting there wondering how to explain to someone why they need to read this book immediately. Johns discusses culture, grief, and family and how they never really leave you no matter how far you try and run away from them.
