An ode to Puerto Rican men (Part I) Aligning to ones purpose in life is an overwhelming challenge on its own in which derives from one’s recognition of fear as it being presented and yet learning to adapt to change. Fortunate to have been introduced to reggeaton at very early age, I had initially focused on its more than addictive beats that caused those whom heard it to dance in a trance. As time progressed, evolution was well anticipated and here is where these men have taken the world by storm. Names such as Rauw Alejandro, Jay Wheeler, Dalex, Mike Towers, Alex Rose, Lenny Tavarez and many more have made it quite apparent that balance is always needed in a successful partnership. Here is where I must give praise to those whom have made all of this possible. Acknowledging your influence in much needed times in which many cannot see light at the end of the tunnel, and yet you lift and inspire to transform negativity into optimism; pure alchemy. Reintroducing the term self worth to many whom have forgotten its value. Encouraging others to find strength when all seems hopeless, for we all have the potential of integrating with Divinity. Grateful to have been able to absorb the knowledge that transcends through music as it elevates the mind, body, and soul. Play-dough

The phone rings, on the other end is my 7-year old daughter with some sort of panic in her voice she asks me, “Mami, what happens if you eat play-dough?” I, not thinking too much of this question but concerned at her intrigue, answered her as calmly as possible and explained to her that play-dough should not be eaten, but because children are so curious it has been made non-toxic. Relieved at the answer I provided her, she begins her reasoning behind this question. She stated “Mami, when I was younger and didn’t know any better I ate play-dough because all the other kids were doing it, but now that I know better , I won’t do it again.” Very proud to hear the way she has analyzed the incident that has occurred before her thought process could be instilled properly and yet she found a way to understand of her unconscious wrong doings, but her awareness has led her to want to make better choices.

The question at hand is how many of us have been eating play-dough forgetting it is still toxic for us???

If all I want is you, what is the purpose of a need. When deception and lies is what captivates greed. I thought I was seeing clearly through your pretty brown eyes. What was there, I never expected to find. I depended on myths and fairytales that were once said. Held my hand so tightly, it even made me forget. Forget I was once hurt, scarred and even bruised. To take me in when no one else would. You soothed me with your words that seem to be falsified. Injected me with your venom, which quenched my thirst and kept me satisfied. Created a bubble that shut everyone out. For you is all I wanted, but I was instilled with doubt. Carried out loving you, for love is what you claimed you required. But even when love runs deep, it wasn’t your only desire. You possessed my heart, mind, and nearly my soul. But secrets you kept and they may never be told. Discrete and so precise, what a wonderful mind in sight. Taking over people as if they were objects from a chess board nonetheless Moving back and forth playing for the best.
