Park Jay is the kind of husband who would put his hands on your hips to gently move you forward as you cook something at the stove and he has to walk past. But oh, he wouldn't stop there, no sir! No. This man would go the extra mile and kiss your shoulder while he's at it, like it's the easiest thing to do. Like, if he needs to get to the cupboard on your right he'll just casually place his hands on your hips and lean down to give your right shoulder (or your neck) a quick kiss before moving on as you stand there all flustered.

The cherry on top? This man probably wouldn't even realise he's doing it. Like, the habit is genuinely unknown to him, like he’s running on autopilot the whole time.

Teaching high school seniors is almost the same as teaching kindergarteners. Contrary to popular belief, they can be rowdy, disruptive and disorganised, while simultaneously doing all their homework and getting good grades. Well, okay grades.

An example of this is Jisung’s current class, the class that he was only meant to be assisting with, which has now been entrusted to him by the very man who told him he would only be taking notes and teaching an occasional lesson for experience. Yet somehow, suddenly, on a rainy friday that felt a little too long, he officially became the teacher of 2-5, soon to be 3-5 after being pulled out by the principal near the middle of first period.

What a load of bull shit. Who the hell thought it was a good idea to make a TA, a sub with minimal experience, a teacher for seniors? What happened to education first? What happened to professionalism and care for students?

He wasn’t really sure if this was all that legal but there wasn’t much he could do when faced with a class of less than 20 students who he could tell the school couldn’t have cared less about, if the way the principal had patted his shoulder and laughed as he spoke casually was anything to go by.

So from then on he vowed to help them to the best of his abilities, even if it meant staying up all night to read up on the content they were learning and planning lessons. He was just glad that it was only maths and homeroom that he had to officially teach. Maths being the subject he was planning to teach anyway and homeroom being, well, homeroom.

He had seen the hope on their faces and in their eyes as they had watched him walk back into the room after talking to the principal, when he had explained that their real maths teacher had suddenly retired out of nowhere and that he would now be teaching them through the end of their second year and the whole of their senior year.

They had cheered for him and encouraged him and he couldn’t help but relax under the praise, grateful even though it was likely that they were all pulling the words out of their asses. Whatever.

He’d help them for now but he vows his lawyer will be hearing about this. Once he gets a lawyer. (Very unlikely.)

"Alright, kids, from today onwards I am going to be your maths teacher. If anyone has any issues with that, please take it up with the principal… or something."

It's not great, knowing that the future of these kids lies upin his shoulders, and yet it's still better thank knowing he has to go home and face the love of his life agaun for the next who-knows-how-many days.

There's this weird, familiar warmth of knowing the one he cares for is safe and happy in his home, sharing his space and occasionally waiting for him so that they can eat together, even if it’s just take out or leftovers because they're both too tired and lazy to cook. But there's also the guilt of knowing this girl is trusting him enough to care for her and respect her in his own space, yet he's here loving her in a way that she’ll never be able to reciprocate.

Of course it is his own fault for agreeing, but that’s not going to stop him from dreading the 4 o'clock bell every working day.

it's five on a tuesday when you finally have your first actual conversation with jisung since moving in. it's been a little over a week since the whole ordeal and your brain still hasn't processed the fact that you are now living with your most memorable ex to date, and so every time you catch a glimpse of him your heart does a little skip before it proceeds to plummet into the endless pit that is your sanity.

get it? it jumps in sanity? no? okay, you may actually be going a little insane. but in your defence, this is the first time you haven't had back-to-back activities and jobs to do in the last year and you’re not used to it anymore. it's equal parts freeing and stressful which kind of defeats the purpose of the whole break, but whatever. there's only so much relaxation an overthinker can get.

"y/n. we need to talk." jisung says as soon as you walk through the door. he stands imposingly at the end of the hallway, arms crossed to make himself seem more intimidating, and while you aren’t intimidated, you can't help but gulp.

what'd i do? oh god, he's gonna kick me out isn't he?! what am i gonna do-

"chores." he stated, as if sensing your overthinking as he slid into a seat at the dining table, ushering you into the one in front of him. "we need to figure out who's gonna do what before you start working."

"right." okay, okay easy. not being kicked out.

jisung pulls out a pen from the front pocket of his work shirt and a paper from who-knows-where, placing them both down on the table in front of himself, "okay, first up: what are your work hours going to look like? i work eight-to-five on weekdays."

"uh, like, five-to-twelve, three times a week?"

jisung paused where he was writing on the paper, "so it's like a regular nine-to-five job, just with different timings?"

you laugh, shaking your head, "i wish. i meant five to twelve as in five a.m. to twelve a.m."

"oh." he frowned and then went back to writing, flipping the page over and drawing a line down the middle and across the centre, weirdly accurately, before writing their names at the top of each column. "okay… are you working on weekends too?"

"no." well, that’s what they said anyway. you can never be too sure about whether they'll keep to their word or not about that.

he perks up at that, "okay, i'll cook on weekdays, you cook on the weekends. you do the dishes on the days you're not working and i'll do them on the days you are?"

too domestic, the mini-me in your head screams, falling to her knees and dramatically banging her fist on the floor as you nod at him, agreeing easily.

"and i'll do the groceries too. we don't want someone finding out where you live. It’ll be bad for both of us."

you furrowed your eyebrows, "what? no, i'll do it. fans don't follow you, they usually just stop you to take pictures or sign something. it's no issue."

but jisung only shakes his head, "that may be the case in america, but not here okay? it's scarily common for some fans to follow you and find out where you live. we don't wanna wake up to reporters and screaming fans with posters swarming the building."

you snort, leaning back in your chair, “i highly doubt that but okay.”

jisung could only sigh.

At 8.45, about 20 minutes into the students' first period, which in the case of Jisung's class is biology, the principal finds the young TA loitering around the halls pretending to be busy. In his defence, class 2-5's homeroom and maths teacher hadn't shown up to school, leaving him with no one to shadow and about 15 kids to take care of for the day.

The much older man catches him just as he’s about to head into the teachers’ office to look through the lesson plan for maths today. The man stops him, with a hand on his upper arm, a smile and a nod in the opposite direction to tell him to follow him outside.

And now Jisung is stressed. More stressed than he was the morning of his first day at university, more stressed than when he had to get his dream uni timetable with no classes on wednesday and no large gaps between classes in as soon as registration opened, more stressed than when he spent months trying to figure out why y/n broke up with him.

Okay, no that’s a stretch and a definite lie but the point’s still there. He was stressing, big time.

“Kid, I can see you overthinking. It’s all over your face.” The man snorts, “You’re not losing your job. Relax.”

“Oh, haha…” Jisung awkwardly laughed, looking everywhere but at him.

“Okay look, I’ll get right to the point here,” He began, suddenly going back to looking strict and composed, “From next week, you’re going to be that class’ official homeroom and maths teacher, got it?”

Jisung choked, eyes widening, “W-what?” He fumbled, not knowing what to say, “What about Mr Lee? I- I’m not qualified to teach yet!”

The man sighed, “Mr Lee suddenly decided to retire. And he absolutely refuses to come in for these last few weeks no matter what we offer him. There’s nothing else we can do.”

“B- but what about the kids? They’re about to go into their senior year, they need a teacher!”

The principal let out an abrupt laugh, “Those kids? They couldn’t care less about their education, they just need to pass. They’re all either about to be idols or are already idols so they’re already set. All you need to do is make them pass.” Then he paused like he was just remembering something, “Oh! Also, about half of them are foreigners from what I remember so honestly, your teaching matters even less because they don’t actually need to be here. No stress, kid. It’ll ease you into the job so you know what to expect when you get an ‘official’,” He made quotation marks with his hands, winking at him with another laugh, “job.”

Jisung just stood there, staring at the man in shock. How could a man who ran a school of thousands of kids think of some of his students like that? Like they were objects, products for his business, and not actual human beings looking at him for guidance towards success.

It irked him. A lot.

The older man didn’t wait for him to respond, seemingly already taking his silence as a positive answer and ending on a short assurance of, “And don’t worry, even if they fail, you’re still getting the pay raise so don’t stress it!” before walking away as if he hadn’t just dumped his responsibilities onto a 20 year old boy with next to no experience.

Is this even legal? Jisung wasn’t so sure it was. Both his appointment as a teacher and the principal’s use of power and social standing against him.

Sigh. And that's how Park Jisung became an 'official' teacher in one of South Korea's finest education institutions at only 20 years old.

yeah.. this was definitely not a good idea.

"oh, you're here."

park jisung kind of wanted to slam the door in your face right now and slam his face into a wall, as you both stared at each other in silence, standing in his doorway. he was not ready to face you, in fact, he doesn’t think he ever will be. not after whatever the hell that breakup was last year.

instead, he cleared his throat, snapping you and himself out of your self loathing and regretful thoughts.

“okay,” he started, more to himself than to you as he moved to the side and motioned for you to come inside, “you can come in.”

“thanks.” you awkwardly chuckled as you slid your suitcase into the apartment, hearing the door click shut behind you before jisung came to stand next to you.

you look around quickly, although there isn't much to see in the small hallway you're both cramped in right now, you can see the living room from the structural hole made into the wall beside you and it doesn't look bad.

please don’t have somehow turned into a psycho mass murderer in the year i didn’t see or hear from you. i’m not ready to die yet…

it’s not that you didn’t have a sense of self preservation, you were just desperate. you are desperate.

jisung doesn’t need to know that though, as you bend down to unzip your boots and slide them off and wow, did he get taller?

that thought is instantly followed by: of course he did y/n, people change, believe it or not.

"okay, so…" the boy chirped, starting to shuffle his feet and turn around when you looked up at him, "uh, this is just the entrance, okay."

calm down ji it's just y/n. it's just y/n. it's y/n. jisung was panicking, not daring to look you in the eye as the possibility of him bursting into tears continued to increase with every passing moment.

he turned to point at the door behind him, closest to the entrance, "uh, this is my room, you… don't need to worry about that, okay follow me."

and then he’s marching down to the end of the short hallway, stopping in front of his room's door and turning to the side, "uh, this is the living room or whatever you wanna call it, it's uh… very multi purposeful…yeah.”

jisung was just about ready to slap himself after that, wow, thank god i didn't decide to be an english teacher.

"ahaha, okay…" you looked away from him awkwardly, not really knowing if what you were feeling was second-hand or just plain embarrassment, "uh, you can speak to me in korean, i've been learning for my show."

what show? "aha right, your show."
