I’m not sure who needs to hear this but it’s normal and okay to be DISABLED by your DISABILITY.
Sometimes it is going to stop you from doing things, and that’s okay. Sometimes it’s going to get in your way or make you struggle or cause problems in your life. But that’s okay, that’s why it’s called a disability.
You don’t need to fight yourself or “not let it hold you back” because a lot of times it will, but that’s the point.

"adhd isn't a disability"
breaks down over trying to start tasks until he deadline is stupidly close
unable to do basic chores unless it's like 4am and then the whole damn house gets cleaned
speaks too fast
tangent and tangent and tangent. makes social situations hard
literally unable to stop themselves from interrupting people mid sentence (and the constant "*interrupts*- sorry, please continue")
knows what they want to say, cannot find the words, even if it's something basic
auditory processing disorder (pretty common with adhd), like how do you explain that you can hear but your brain has minecraft server lag and the chat will appear soon
hyperfixations, and people thinking they are special interests when they are not (they are short term, literally stops you from basic care like eating and drinking when in) edit: it was brought to my attention this comes across like special interests are easier to live with which is not the case, please do not take that away from this post!!!
impulse purchases making bank accounts cry
all or nothing. not hungry to pain. don't need to pee until pain. you get the picture
cannot sit still, like actually can't, constant moving and shuffling which people think would be cute but actually just pisses people off
doesn't have a fidget toy, not bc they are popular but bc they would have to put it away bc dylan over there got a fidget spinner and has been loudly playing with it (dylan is neurotypical)
cannot do anything if there is something else to do that day, must wait
just stfu it is a disability

I thought “senioritis” for my bachelor’s degree was bad. But let me tell you - the “senioritis” for a post-baccalaureate is way worse! Especially when you’ve already secured a job in your field for after you graduate. 👩🏼‍🏫😩 Any tips to survive these next two months, and get my thesis done? 😭

This “boop” feature is the best thing Tumblr has put in an update, in years! So much dopamine from all these little paws on my screen. 😍🐾

Neurodivergent reminder: Overstimulation feels a lot like anxiety, and understimulation feels a lot like depression.
More importantly, you don't need to know which it is to practice self-care.
Self-caring anxiety and overstimulation looks the same:
Recognize you're feeling big feelings
Take as many deep breaths as your need to slow your mind
Identify what’s causing the feeling, whether sensory, environmental, or situational
Minimize that cause as much as possible immediately
Self-caring depression and understimulation looks the same:
Recognize you’re in need of stimulation
Turn on an interesting long-form video of some kind
Do some quick exercise like a walk or jumping jacks
Call a friend that'll let you infodump
If you're neurodivergent and easily get stuck on labelling things — I see you.
I'm here to remind you that you don't need to know what it is to take care of it in the meantime.
You can — will — figure it out later.

Note to my Past Self: For all the times you doubted that pursuing your degree programs was worth it… it is. 💕
After 7 years of post-secondary education, and three degrees (soon to be 4 and a teaching credential), I finally got an interview for a full-time teaching position. In less than 24 hours, I was offered the position. I accepted.
The feeling of realizing you’re almost there, and that your hard work will be worth it, is an incredible feeling. And getting that phone call with the job position offer, makes your heart skip a beat, and leaves you overwhelmed with so many emotions. It’s such a surreal feeling and gives you so much energy and passion for your career path, even when it’s that time of year where you’re exhausted.
Keep going. It is so worth it when you can finally see the finish line. ✨👩🏼‍🏫

The Autistic Teacher
I would like to note that not all autistic people are empathetic. Some individuals have/feel no empathy at all and that fine. Having no empathy just means that some people can’t understand why people feel the way they feel. It doesn’t mean that you’re a bad person.

we are stem
to the little girl first discovering a love of science on a school trip to the planetarium
to the little boy who dreams of diving into the depths of the ocean and discovering the world at our shores
to the burnt out high schooler wishing their science classes felt more like the theorizing video essays they watch until 1am
to the premed student losing her mind over a lab report
to the grad student standing tall at his first conference
to the programmer fearing she won't be taken seriously in heels
to the biologist afraid to introduce his PI to his husband for fear of being thought of differently
to the doctor whose patients ask to touch her hair and mispronounce her name
to the chemist wheeling up to his lab station
to the artist who is an engineer who is an artist who is an engineer
to the thinkers, dreamers, worriers, gamers, watchers, theorizers, believers
all genders, all races, all religious, all nationalities, all sexualities, all personalities
stem is incomplete without us

This is why I’m a math teacher - I love to share the beauty and intricacy of math, while making it approachable for students to learn. ❤️🥰
Positive post: I like math, it's cool and useful! The culture of blindly hating math is a problem in an increasingly anti-intellectual society. We need some revisions to the way it's taught to make it more accessible and relevant. In fact, an entire branch of science isn't arcane devil magic!
Comment on tumblr "how dare you say we piss on the poor" dot com: you weren't talking to me but this is ableist because some people have dyscalculia
Record scratch.
Every single post I've seen about enjoying math inevitably has at least one comment like this and it entirely misses the point on multiple levels. Would you say reading and literacy is ableist because some people have dyslexia? No, so leave math alone.
Not everyone can do higher dimensional calculus, but not everyone can read middle English or carve a marble statue either. The experts in each field find great beauty in what they study. Isn't the human spirit of exploration and creativity great?
Like... I use a cane, are athletes ableist because not everyone can participate? I have food allergies, is the dairy industry ableist? Is the sun itself ableist because I get migraines? My hands shake and make it impossible to create precise lines and painful to hold an instrument for more than one minute, is the entire field of visual arts and the community around artists ableist?
The rhythms of calculus and physics are as beautiful as a symphony or a poem or a painting, get out of my house
