You Found Me
Part one
It was raining when Eddie went outside for his morning smoke.
It was the few blissful moments he would have before getting Darcy up for preschool.
He loved the days he had his daughter but they wore him out.
Splitting custody with Connie was surprisingly easier than he thought. Coparenting was a breeze compared to their marriage.
He remembered in the final days before they separated he would dread getting up in the morning, dread the arguing and anger.
But now he was happy again.
It was getting close to the time he needed to get Darcy up and he took a few last drags of his cigarette, making a mental checklist of the things he needed to do today to make it run smoothly before he met Connie to drop Darcy off.
Despite the relief of the truce between him and Connie, he felt guilty for Darcy having to split everything between his home and her moms.
He needed to get moving. He had a full schedule at the tattoo shop downtown today but was sure the rain was gonna be a reason for some no shows.
He took a final drag of the cigarette before tossing it down on the cement below him and crushing it with the sole of his boot when a car followed by a moving truck rambled down the street, catching his attention.
He had heard that the house across the street was sold and he hoped that maybe they had a kid around Darcy’s age for her to play with.
He leaned against his porch rail, trying not to be too much of a nosey neighbor as he watched the car door swing open.
Eddie never would have guessed what would happen next, who would show up in his life for the first time in ten years.
Time slowed, his heart dropped to his stomach, and he wondered if he was seeing things correctly when you stepped out of the car and started walking towards the house with a set of keys in your hand.

then he’s holding a bundle in his arm, a squirming puppy with a bow on his collar. your friend had gotten a puppy, and when you came home from seeing it, eddie knew exactly what to get you for christmas.
he even got the puppy a stocking. filled it with toys and treats to go with the other dogs, which made you nearly sob.
“this is the best one.” you hugged the puppy to you.
