my mom can fall asleep anywhere. evidence: i took her to an adolescents/circle jerks/descendents show. we were in the pit for most of it but my boyfriend started getting overstimulated so we bought seats.
once we sat down? she was out. my mom fell asleep at her first hardcore punk show. iconic

i don’t know who needs to hear this, but disabled punks, you don’t have to go into the pit to have a good time. don’t put yourself in an uncomfortable situation if you don’t think you’d enjoy it.
at the same time, let’s not judge disabled people who do want be in the pit! some people will actively choose to mosh knowing it might cause pain/a flare-up and, in the politest way possible, it’s really not your business. it’s their body and only they should get to make those decisions. i will always encourage being in tune with your own needs and not pushing yourself too far, but like everyone else, it’s a risk many take and accept when getting into the pit. a lot of us are gonna be disabled our whole lives. we should be allowed to do fun things too

i have to say, it’s disgusting how anti trans fearmongering prays on the anxieties of medically traumatized people. i grew up disabled and for much of my life couldn’t go to the doctor’s office without having a meltdown or dissociating. i knew that transphobes/terfs were full of shit, but hearing their rhetoric still affected me. the narrative that they push, that doctors would practically hold you down and inject you with hormones to push a political agenda, that you would ruin your body forever by transitioning and gender affirming surgeries were a form of self-mutilation... it’s terrifying. we are vulnerable, and anti-trans “activists” take advantage of our negative experiences to prevent people from transitioning. the only “permanent damage” i inflicted on my body was from starving myself to cope with the dysphoria while i was repressing my identity. if these people really cared about the safety of our children they’d understand that transitioning saves lives. period.

i realized i didn’t have a pinned post so here’s one. disclaimer that this is technically my sideblog (@milogoestogreendale is my fandom blog) but i post about lots of things like diy, the punk subculture, music, and sometimes disability activism.
lil bit about me, im eighteen, been in the scene for a little over two years. i love art and sewing, hardcore punk rock, and playing the bass.
i may talk about some upsetting topics like ableism, medical trauma, and eating disorder/self harm recovery, i try to tag those if i can

i think one of the reasons punk means so much to me is that under the spikes and studs and safety pins is the same kid who sobbed violently every time he got in an argument, a kid who cared so much about the people around him that he kept asking questions. kept trying to make sense of things, even when it started to alienate him, because it wasn’t a simple disagreement to him, it was his whole life. something was fundamentally wrong with his brain that made him incapable of understanding the world the way the people around him did, so he was seen as selfish when all he ever wanted was to make everyone happy. and maybe when that kid grew up, he still had questions, and he never stopped trying to understand the world a little better. but he was also going to realize that he was never broken; he was hurt by a system that was. but he wouldn’t stop fighting for change, to make it a hell of a lot better for the other misfits and outcasts who felt like there wasn’t a place for them. he was going to stop caring so much how he was perceived for expressing himself and he was never going to let anyone make him feel like he didn’t belong. ever.

turns out, i fit in pretty well with the riot grrrls because i, too, enjoyed angrily screaming about womanhood. the difference that went over my head at the time was that, generally, most of them hated being girls due to sexism, and i hated being a girl due to gender dysphoria.
ill never forget the angry punk girls who made me who i am, even as i outgrew a subculture that centered femininity. they helped me survive my teenage years, and ill always be grateful for the introduction to intersectional feminism

Why are people on tumblr so much nicer than people on tiktok? I don’t even want to post my gear on tiktok, I can think of a few reasons why they would just call me a poser or a fashion punk, or whatever, but I have got nothing but love here for the same gear. I have been working for a week or so on some “battle overalls,” and I can’t wait to get them to a point where I feel “done” enough to show them to u guys bc I know you will be nice. I guess I am just glad the punk community on here exists and I hope you all are having a good day.

Hey how long do your patches last? The paint looks so smooth and cool
thank you. ive been making/wearing patches for… almost two years now? so far they’ve held up pretty well. i haven’t had any come off (besides one i intentionally moved/took off) and the paint jobs have held up pretty well. i did have a problem with the paint cracking on some of my older patches where i used those really crappy apple barrel paints, which i don’t recommend. it’s fairly easy to find really cheap good quality paints, brush and even fabrics at thrift stores and scrap markets so that’s your best best in terms of price and longevity. ive also started using modge podge on my more recent patches to seal them more strongly but i can’t yet speak to the effect this has on the durability in the long term.
