The prices of meat and fish are ridiculous. I got a little bit of raw salmon for my cat and I can't believe I spent £4,99 on ONE thing. With that amount of money I could've gotten 1kg of carrots (40p), 3 cans of beans (30p each), 1kg of pasta (60p), 1kg broccoli (90p), 1 pack of tofu (£1,99) and I would still have 20p left for a pastry in the bakery...
But I guess being vegan is oh so expensive lol

I don't care!
Veganism is a completely different way of viewing animals. It's not about "let's treat them nicely."
Veganism is the belief that humans should not use the bodies of animals when they don't need to do so to survive.
Veganism means that because an animal can suffer and enjoy things, they deserve autonomy. Using that animal's body for your own gain, even if you try to do so in a way that's sensitive to their happiness and health, is exploitation.
Veganism acknowledges that not every aspect is accessible to every person in the very definition of the word: not partaking in the use of animals as much as possible. It's not erasing the need for systemic change, it's just people trying to live out their ethics consistently to the best of their ability.
You don't have to tell me about how nice the animals are treated. That's usually not true anyway but even when it is, I simply do not care.
If your idea of animal rights does not include the idea that animals should have autonomy then I'm not expecting this post to convince you, but if you talk about how nicely animals are treated or about how veganism isn't accessible to everyone, you're not "owning the vegans," you're just proving that you have no idea what veganism actually is.

Definitely the change in my sense of smell! Meat used to smell amazing, but after some time as a vegan, the smell is actually horrid, rotten, and repulses me. As a carer I have to cook my clients' meals and more often than not it's bacon, eggs, etc. and my GOD I just cannot stand the smell! My clients love my cooking so that's good, but yeah the change in my sense of smell as a former meat and cheese lover is incredible. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't experienced it first hand.

I wish people becoming vegan was as simple as simply telling them the truth about the dairy, egg, meat and fish industries and them just being “wow, okay, I was so wrong my whole life, now I get it. Thank you for telling me. That was really hard to hear and comprehend, but now I understand it, I know that I’ll be a vegan for the rest of my life. I can’t un-know that”
Which, really, is how it should be.

I’m partly vegan because I believe bigotry is wrong. Prejudice or treating others differently because of the group they’re in, is wrong.
I don’t think it’s right to kill, abuse or exploit other animals just because of their species.
If it’s wrong to kill a dog then it’s wrong to kill a cow.
If it’s wrong to fund a puppy mill then it’s wrong to fund a factory farm, as 90% of farmed animals live on factory farms.
If fur is wrong then leather is wrong.
And if as a human, I wouldn’t want to be treated like an object then I have no right to treat another animal like a product.
Speciesism is a kind of prejudice and it’s wrong.

At a work training session we talked about miscommunication with professionals and we were asked to provide an example we could think of; suddenly, a girl raised her hand and mentioned how fat people often get bad healthcare because they aren't listened to and are judged by their body shape only. This girl was thin. When she was done speaking, I thanked her personally. Finding a thin person who is openly against fatphobia is such a joy ❤️

Sorry if you've been asked thia before, but it is actually true that farmed animals only/mostly eat parts of plants that are inedible to humans?
An estimated 86% of grain fed to farmed animals is considered inedible for humans, but even that remaining 14% could be used to feed millions of humans instead of animals. Keep in mind that the tiger 86% isn’t just waste that animals then turn into food, is made up of crops like alfalfa and hay, which is inedible for us but is grown to feed farmed animals instead of a crop that is intended for human consumption.
This calculation doesn't even factor in the inefficiency of devoting large swathes of arable land to graze farmed animals, either. At present a full 1/3 of the planet’s land surface and 2/3 of available agricultural land is used for farming animals. It also doesn't factor in the opportunity cost of crops being specifically selected because they produce waste, inedible byproducts, or are just inedible to us as a plant but are profitable to sell as animal feed.
Even discounting inedible grains entirely, it is estimated that 1kg of meat requires at least 2.8kg of human-edible crops. The issue is that farmed animals consume significantly more calories to get them to slaughter weight than they will ever produce in meat, meaning that they are actually detracting from the global food supply. Chicken meat production consumes energy in a 4:1 ratio to protein output; beef cattle 54:1, lamb 50:1, pork 17:1, turkey 13:1 and milk 17:1, according to the ecologist’s analysis of U.S. Department of Agriculture statistics.
The fact of the matter is that there is just no way to farm these animals at scale and have it be anywhere near as efficient as eating plants directly, whether you measure that according to land use, water use, energy cost, input vs output, edible protein per acre of arable land - animal agriculture is woefully inefficient by just about every metric. We all at least pretend to object to factory farming, but this massive inefficiency is there even with factory farming, which is so cruel precisely because it is more efficient than the other available options.
In a world where 828 million people go hungry every day, feeding so much of our agricultural output to farmed animals instead of humans is not just an efficiency issue, it is an a humanitarian issue. We can talk all day about cutting food waste, and that absolutely should be a priority, but it doesn't address the root of then problem when so much of the waste happens before the product even gets to the seller, never mind the consumer.

12. favorite tv commercial?
I clearly remember the moment when a former friend introduced me to a commercial that they really liked. I was surprised to know anyone who 'likes' a commercial and knew nothing of the art behind it at the time. This beautiful Chevy commercial that I was shown taught me what masterpieces can come out of ads if you do it properly. Like come on. Look at this and get blown away by the wonderful transitions between clips, the adequately chosen colors that communicate all the emotions before you even know what they are, the flawless story telling and the heart that shines through it!
17. an earliest obsession you remember?
Um... I remember being a bit obsessed with a fig tree in my backyard as a child. My first dog was chained to it, I think? (for the record, I am perfectly aware that dogs should not be tied up, but I was just a small child at the time and it was normal for my parents to have dogs on a chain... if only I could go back in time with the knowledge I have now, I'd absolutely free my old dog and love her properly, it's such a big regret I have) Anyways, the chain ruined the trunk due to the dog moving and sort of 'dug' in it. I felt sorry for the tree and after my dog passed away I started talking to it. I apologized for ruining its trunk and tried providing diy first aid to it lol (I watered it, caressed it and gave it little wildflowers) so yeah, that obsession lasted for a while. In hindsight, maybe it was my way of coping with the loss of the dog.
24. what have you learned about yourself?
A lot of things happened that enriched my self-knowledge! I wouldn't know where to start. To mention one - I learned that I tend to expect to be helped rather than find solutions myself. That's likely something I inherited from my mom: due to her neverending health problems, she's always had to rely on others to get help, so I learned as a child that others owe me help because I'm helpless with my problems, just like my mom was. I am working on it though. I'm aware I can't (and also shouldn't) rely on others all the time.
28. an unusual song that’s your favorite?
Unusual, umm... I'm not sure what I can classify as 'unusual' but I'll go with Back Pack by AJJ due to its uncommon theme, and disturbing yet pleasant lyrics.
29. the last thing you ate?
Avocado toast with a slice of vegan cheese on top, yummy!!!

I was huge on boosting the bass in my music as a teenager, I still kinda am, but drums can carry such an enormous emotional impact! When I discovered what cinematic music is, I couldn't stop 'feeling' the power of drums in it! I think both are equally preferable.
34. when you hear “ peace ” what do you think of?
Off the top of my head, I think of the moment in a Catholic church service when the priest/pastor asks everyone to shake hands and show eachother 'peace'. It was so awkward and barely anyone makes eye contact while doing it...
45. favorite tea?
