Chapter 3: I remember everything
When Daryl returned to camp with his small haul of squirrels and rabbits, he expected to be greeted by his wife. However, she never appeared.
“Y/n!” He shouted, looking through their tent that looked untouched and had been for hours. He walked into the heart of camp and looked around. His wife is nowhere to be seen. Everyone stared at him. He scowled as Shane came over arms out, like he was already ready to diffuse the wild animal.
“Daryl, now listen to me man” Shane started, Daryl knew then something was wrong. His breathing became harsher as the emotions sank in. Fear, anger, anxiety. He felt them all at once.
“She dead?” He asked though he was afraid of the answer. Daryl didn’t really see a point going on without her.
“Her and Merle got separated” Daryl lunged forward, trying to grab ahold of Shane, but ended up in a chokehold by some guy he didn’t know.
His other half was missing. Lost in a world she had no idea how to survive. One he was trying so hard to protect her from. He couldn’t bear the thought of this new world tarnishing his love.
“I’m going to look for them,” he said strained, the arm around his throat making it hard for him to speak. He patted the arm to signal he was no longer a threat. He was carefully released.
Glenn looked at him and spoke, “I’ll go with you”. Daryl nodded, appreciating the extra hands. He was coming back with both of them. The officer, Rick, and Daryl had agreed to tag along too. As well as T-dog.
Daryl readied the box truck, that was brought back from the last excursion. He listened to the hushed argument between Lori whom his wife had become somewhat close, and Rick. It was the argument of a married couple.
He and y/n hardly ever argued, but he’d remembered their first. It was over a dumb cat, he smiled to himself at the memory. She’d brought home this orange poof of a cat from work.
Daryl wanted nothing to do with the small creature and swore up and down he was allergic. Y/n ended up winning their argument. They’d kept the cat and named him Norman. He loved that cat, though he’d probably never really admit that. Not to y/n anyway. Even if he had shed a small tear when Norman got sick.
“You ready?” Daryl spoke to the volunteers, Glenn made his way to the driver's seat, and Rick to the passenger seat. T-dog chooses the latter and sits with Daryl in the back.
-
The group of men made their way through the department store quietly. Not wanting to draw any unwanted attention.
T-dog led the way up to the roof, the heavy chain and lock he’d placed on the door still intact. He thanked any god listening, the last thing he wanted was to face Dixons’ wrath. Using bolt cutters he clipped the lock. Rick pulled off the chain as Daryl pushed open the door.
He was met with nothing, no sign of either of them. His lip quivered. The handcuffs Rick had told him about on their drive back to the city dangled from the metal pipe, swaying in the breeze. The side that had been cuffed to Merle was open.
“Fuck” Daryl said, voice quivering. Now back to square one, he began looking around the roof for any sign either one of them had left.
T-dog weighed out his dilemma, speaking. “Dixon, I’m sorry” This earned him a look from the tracker, and continued, “I was supposed to get them but there were too many geeks, and I-“
“You mean to tell me, this is your fault?” T-dog nodded. Daryl clenched his jaw, debating on putting a bolt through his scull but was distracted by a flash of red out of the corner of his eye.
He turned fully and saw an x on the back of a door on the other end of the roof. He walked over and gently ran a finger through it. Lipstick. That was his girl.
Daryl ducked into the doorway, the others following behind him. They descended the stairwell and were met with a small arrow in red lipstick signaling to the left.
Every few feet another arrow would indicate which way to go. Until the group came upon two dead walkers. Neither of them looked like Daryl’s wife or brother.
His wife wouldn’t have been able to kill so brutally, this was his brother's doing. Y/n would’ve been precise and less messy. Merle had found humor in positioning the arm and finger of the dead body to point in the direction they needed to continue.
-
Music played softly around the pair as they swayed. A slow, sad country song but they didn’t care. Nor did they care if they had onlookers.
Daryl rested his forehead against hers as they continued to sway. “I love you” he spoke so quietly she wasn’t sure if she’d heard it at first.
“I love you” she replied, a small smile playing on her lips. Daryl smiled and pulled her impossibly closer, gently dipping her backward. This earned a laugh to erupt from y/ns throat.
“Congratulations” Joe, one of the long-term patrons of the bar said passing by the two. Y/n replied with a thanks and stared at her now husband.
He raised an eyebrow at her, the side of his lip quirking upwards, “What?”. Daryl brushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
The memory faded as y/n heard shuffling from outside her hiding place. She had been hidden in the cabinet for what felt like days. It was hot, and she was certainly dehydrated.
She sat still hearing the broken glass crunch under heavy feet. This could be it, her final moments. She prayed to any god listening that it would be quick and painless as the cabinet door swung open. The sun burned her eyes causing her to squint.
A voice etched forever in her mind spoke, “I gotcha” Daryl crouched down to look her over. Tears stung in her eyes as she took in his face. She stumbled out, her legs forgetting how to move from being stuck in a sitting position for days, and wrapped her arms around his neck.
His arms enveloped her, holding her close. Taking in the notes of citrus and sweat. How she could possibly still smell like her shampoo was beyond him. “Where’s Merle?” He asked, still holding onto her, refusing to let her go.
She shook her head, “I don't know, he told me to hide in here” Daryl sighed, it wasn’t what he wanted to hear. Though he knew his brother was tough as nails and could survive this world more than his wife could.
“Let’s get you back to camp” he spoke, standing, making her stand with him. Scooping her into his arms choosing to carry her rather than let her walk.
Daryl wanted nothing more than to look for his brother but his wife looked worse for wear. He also knew his brother could make his own way back to camp. So, he took his wife home.

Chapter 2:
-1 month later-
The whistling of birds was the first thing she’d heard, she groaned, rolling over searching for the warmth of her lover. Instead of warmth, his side was frigid.
When her sight was met with the side wall of the tent. she groaned again. The dream she had hadn’t been real. She wasn’t back home in her bed.
Rubbing at her eyes, she lay there. Staring at the wall of the tent. Daryl was the only thing that kept her going; sometimes even he wasn’t enough. Despite what her mind told her, she still sat up.
Y/n willed her body to stand and walked out of the tent. The sun twinkled in through the tree limbs, the light shifting as the breeze blew through the trees. At least their camp was in a peaceful spot.
“Morning miss y/n” Shane’s voice sounded, grabbing her attention. She smiled and gave a small wave in acknowledgment. He must’ve been making his rounds.
Something about him made her uneasy, though he’d never really done anything to support the feeling she had. However, she did notice he kept an awfully close eye on her husband like he did with another in their group. Satisfied with her response he continued on. The unease she felt, dissipating at his retreat.
She made her way to the large RV, where Glenn was talking to the group about their run. “Bout time you joined the rest of us princess” Merle spoke, voice grating to her. She flipped him off, only earning a chuckle from him.
“You guys still need one more?” She asked, looking at the group who seemed hesitant to answer. Scared of what the redneck would do to them if she got hurt.
Glenn spoke up, “You’re welcome to tag along” and gave her a small smile, which she returned. Merle came over, offering a small pistol which she took. Making sure the safety was on she shoved it in her pack pocket and made her way to the truck
-
Y/n watched as walkers beat at the doors of the shop the group holed up in. The smell was causing her stomach to churn. After a month she should’ve been used to it. Her new reality, but she wasn’t.
“You think we’ll make it back?” She’d asked looking at Glenn. He looked at her offering a small smile and nodded. She returned the smile though it didn’t meet her eyes. She regretted coming out with the group.
Deciding to get some air she made her way to the roof, where her brother-in-law was aiming his rifle at the dead below.
“You know that’s not smart” she spoke, which earned a grunt from the male. He didn’t care. “I’d like to make it back to camp alive” she tried again. This earned her a glance.
He knew what she really meant, she wanted to make it back to Daryl, and he had a soft spot for his brother. Merle sucked on his teeth and slung the rifle over his back.
Y/n stared at the ground that was several feet below them. She never once had thoughts like she had now, the thought to jump but here she was. The ground beckoned her.
“I wouldn’t if I were you” Merle spoke, arms crossed over his chest. Her cheeks burned as she stepped back. Y/n was unsure if she was embarrassed he knew what she had thought about or because she was actually considering it.
They stood in silence for a moment until the stairwell door creaked open. T-dog stood, glancing between the two of them. This earned a scowl from Merle. Though he hated the man for other reasons.
The group accumulated on the roof, looking for vantage points, trying to escape. Y/n tried to help the group when Merle began using colorful language towards t-dog.
Y/n threw herself onto the back of the large man. This did nothing, however, other than earn her a fist to the face. “Hey, enough!” Glenn yelled directing it toward Merle and pulling her away from him.
Y/n watched as the officer Glenn had saved handcuffed her brother-in-law to a pipe, he deserved it. This certainly wasn’t the first time he had been cuffed, however, it might be his last.
“You alright?” The officer spoke, eyes checking her over. She only nodded. The pain that radiated in her cheek overpowering the need to speak.
She listened as the rest of them came up with a plan to escape their possible tomb. Offering to be the one to stay with Merle and uncuff him when the time came.
-
Y/n sat on the roof with Merle, staring at the ground as he whistled. She wanted to yell at him, tell him to shut the fuck up but her face was sore from the right hook he’d swung. No doubt swollen and puffy, on track to be bruised later.
Merle stopped whistling abruptly, “He’s gonna kick my ass” he’d said. She knew he meant Daryl. She also knew he was right, Daryl would indeed kick his ass.
She said nothing, as he continued, “yah know I always thought you were too good for him”. Y/n looked up at him, blinking. He nodded. “You’re smart as a whip, good looking too”
She mustered the words to form, wincing as she spoke “Why are you saying this now” Merle barely spoke to her let alone something so sincere.
“I don't know,” he spoke truthfully. “Must be the heat" It was sweltering, and the sun beat down on the both of them brutally. Y/n had sweat pooling in places she didn't think was possible. "I wanna thank you"
"For what?" she squinted, the sun pooling into her eyes, making it hard to see. There was nothing to really thank her for, she'd done nothing in truth.
He seemed to hesitate as he spoke, "For making him happy" This confession took her aback. She knew Merle wasn't all bad underneath but to actually have him voice his care for his brother was a shock. Y/n was unsure of what to say so she didn’t say anything.
Pushing herself up, she leaned over the edge, looking down below. Noticing blood covered beings. It was odd, they didn’t look like the corpses below that’s when she realized. The group had left them.

Chapter One: Riders On the Storm
Day Zero
Police sirens sounded as she reached for her phone, dialing her husband. The phone rang and rang, and rang. She cursed to herself putting her phone back into her pocket.
They were far from town, but the sirens blared loud enough to hear miles away. Her heart beat rapidly in her chest as she tried to breathe, confused but also fully aware of what this all meant.
Two hours ago the TV they kept turned on in the living room had gone blank, then displayed an emergency broadcast. Now the phones wouldn’t work.
Her husband was working at the local garage this morning, one of the few odd jobs he did. If she knew her husband well enough he’d be speeding home in that banged-up red pickup.
Just then Daryl walked through the door, clearly rattled. “Pack a bag, we gotta go,” he said hurriedly.
“What’s going on?” He brushes past her opening the hall closet grabbing his crossbow and holding it out to her. “Daryl”
“Y/n we gotta go, now” he looked over his shoulder at her. His eyes were wide like he’d seen something that had shaken him. She said nothing and grabbed the bow setting it on the back of the couch.
She watched as he grabbed their backpacks out of the closet, then began to frantically pack clothing, and canned food into their packs.
Y/n went into their bedroom, grabbing Daryl’s wedding band. One of the few sentimental things she didn’t want to leave behind. He hardly wore the band but it still meant a lot to the both of them. The second thing she grabbed was a necklace chain, placing his wedding band onto the chain, then clasping it around her neck.
She opened their closet door and began digging for the hunting knife Daryl had gifted her one year. It was missing, “I grabbed it” Daryl spoke behind her. Watching her as she stood and turned to look at him.
He noted the worn golden band on the silver chain around her neck. He should’ve known. She stepped closer to him, worry in her eyes. With his free hand, he rubbed her cheek, leaning his forehead against hers. “I love you” he spoke. Hearing those words was a rarity.
She sighed closing her eyes. This was it, the end of the world. Though it’s not how she thought it would happen. She guessed it didn’t matter. “We have to go get Dad” she spoke quietly, he only gave a curt nod.
Daryl jerked away as he heard the screen door creak open. “Stay here,” he told her. Grabbing the hunting knife from her pack. She watched as he walked down the hall, disappearing from her sight.
“Son of a bitch” she heard, albeit muffled, “Merle you can’t just-“ the rest she couldn’t make out. She made her way back out to the living room, where Merle and her husband stood.
“Hey princess” Merle drawled, smirking down at her. She shuddered, hating the nickname he’d chosen to call her over the years.
“You finished packing?” Daryl turned to her, eyes soft and questioning. She simply nodded, even though she wanted to pack the whole house in those two packs. Daryl sighed, knowing what she was thinking. He wished they could too.
Merle whistled, “Alright lovebirds, let’s get on with this shit show” walking to the screen door. It groaned as he opened it, stepping onto their porch.
Y/n followed behind him, turning to watch as Daryl locked and shut the door. He walked past her and down the steps of their porch.
The stairs creaked as she stepped down them one last time and over to the beat-up red Ford truck. Daryl held the door open for her as she stepped up into the truck.
Daryl slammed the door shut as she stared at their home. She barely noticed as he slipped in beside her. The engine of the old truck roared to life. Suddenly their home became smaller and smaller as he backed down their driveway.
The roads twisted as they made their way to her father's. The two sat in silence as he turned down the gravel driveway. Y/n noticed the front door was ajar as the truck came to a stop.
She went to get out but Daryl put an arm over her chest, stopping her. He slid out of the truck, rounding the front of the truck. Y/n watched as he made his way inside. Deciding not to wait she got out and headed inside.
A heavy metallic fragrance sat in the air. Instantly she knew the smell. Blood. “Daryl” She called out quietly, stepping a foot over the threshold of the door. There was a scraping noise, like an end table scuffing against the floor.
Y/n didn’t have a chance to react as she was tackled to the ground. She tried to push the being off of her, but with no luck. Screaming, she tried again as it snarled and lunged at her.
Y/n struggling against the being on top of her for what felt like an eternity. Then suddenly the thing on top of her went slack. She cried out pushing it off of her, scrambling to get far away from it.
“Y/n you alright?” Daryl asked crouching to her level, “did it get you?” She shook her head, gasping for breath as she looked at the person lying limp next to them.
“What the fuck” she breathes out, still unable to comprehend what had just happened. Her dad, they were here for her dad. “Where’s dad?”
“Y/n” he spoke softly, like he was speaking to a wounded animal. Her stomach dropped and she shook her head, tears forming in her eyes.
She scrambled to get up, Daryl stood with her grabbing her as she tried to make her way back into the house. There was no way he’d let her lay eyes on the scene in her father’s bedroom.
“No” she croaked, pushing against Daryl. He only held onto her tighter. “No” was all she could say before sobbing into his chest. He was unsure of what to say, so he just held her.
Neither of them had heard Merle approach the porch until he spoke, “As touching as this is, we need to get on the road” Daryl glared at his brother, though he was right but he wouldn’t admit that out loud.
Y/n sniffled, as Daryl released her from his grip and ushered her back to the truck. She stared down at the floorboard, unsure of how she’d gotten back in the vehicle. Daryl had spoken to her, but she hadn’t paid attention.
She wanted nothing more than to curl in on herself, maybe even wake up cause this had to have been a dream. Right? Y/n rested her head against his shoulder, staring at the road ahead as he drove.

A/N: Getting close to the end guys! Does anyone have any ideas for another series or blurbs? Open to suggestions.
Chapter 20
10k stayed in and out of consciousness, so much to the point I was starting to worry. Eventually, by luck, we met up with Warren and the others.
“I’m sorry I dragged you into this” Warren spoke, glancing back at me in the rearview mirror.
I shook my head, “All good” though I’m not sure it was.
“How’s your little girl?” She smiled fondly at the memory of her.
A small smile tugged on my lips, “She’s good, talking, being a menace” which earned a chuckle from Warren.
“Where is your daughter now?” Hector, who I managed to learn they had beef with for a while but was now on our side.
I winced, “it’s a long story, but she's with this couple that took us in. Very fortified place”
Hector nodded and mumbled something about that being nice as Doctor Sun Mei glanced back at 10k who slept, she said nothing but looked skeptical.
“What can you tell us about Murphy town?” Warren asked.
I shook my head. “Not much, there’s a lot of security, a zombie moat, and these people just listen to him”
“Now that’s odd” Warren grunted, I nodded.
“That’s all I got before he knocked me out” I stated
Hector raised an eyebrow “knocked you out?”
I nodded, “yeah, woke up in a psych ward, that’s how I met up with doc and 10k”
“Oh you’re gonna wanna hear this!” Doc piped up and went on to tell the whole story, I snorted, laughing at some of the funny parts.
“Sounds like you guys have been up to quite a bit” Addy pipes up. I nod. The ride continued swapping stories of zombies, family before, and just what we wish the world was now.
Warren pulled to a stop at a lookout that gave us a good view of Murphy's little village. If it came to a fight I don't know if I'd be able to go down swinging. I promised I'd make it back to Em.
I sighed quietly, taking a look at 10k who was still passed out. Good, sleep it off. The more time I have to plan out this conversation the better.
Warren decided to set up camp here, so we sat around a low-burning fire eating beans Maggie packed for me. I stood taking what was left of my bowl over to the opened trunk of the car where 10k lay. Though instead of asleep, his eyes were open staring at the roof of the car. His head turned my way. Fuck.
“How long have you been here?” He asked, voice still groggy from sleep, or drugs, or Murphy, hell maybe a combo.
I took a breath, “been here a while” he sat up, swinging his legs over the edge of the trunk.
He looked at the bowl in my hand and then back up to my face. “Come to really put a knife in my chest?” He deadpanned.
No emotion was shown in his eyes, I glanced over to see if anyone was listening, if they were they were doing a good job hiding it.
“I came to apologize, and save your ass” I offered up the bowl of beans, he crossed his arms over his chest in rejection so I set it on the edge of the trunk beside him.
He stayed silent, either not wanting to listen or telling me to continue. Regardless I continued. “I was selfish, I chose Emma over you and the mission and I’m sorry.”
He loosened the tightness of his arms but his face remained stoic so I just went on, “Every waking moment I think about you, about us. fuck you’re in my dreams too. I was stupid and you can hate me all you want, I deserve it.”
He remained silent, as tears threatened to spill. Heat ran its way up from my cheeks to the tops of my ears. I could tell he was in contemplation, I knew him all too well. “I would’ve gone with you,” he said, firm and truthful. “You could’ve just said something, everything could’ve been okay. All you had to do was just fucking say something!” His fist hit the carpet inside but still made a loud enough noise that made me jump.
He went on, “The little savior act isn’t going to fix things. I should’ve known you would’ve picked that thing over me. I was happier thinking you were dead”
I couldn’t stop the tear that fell down my cheek but I wasn’t about to cry in earshot of everyone else. I simply nodded and walked away, noticing we had gathered an audience.
My feet carried me past the group, ignoring Warren calling out for me. This is exactly how I figured it would go. I should’ve just stayed at the farm. Crawling into one of the tents we set up, I laid on the sleeping bag and sobbed, Not caring about anyone hearing me.
I sobbed, knowing you fucked up was one guilt but hearing it was a whole other level. I almost hadn’t heard Addy enter the tent. “Y/N, you wanna talk?”
Shaking my head earned a sigh from her, then some rustling and a sudden warmth at my back. I didn’t stray from her touch when she wrapped around me.
Addy rested her nose on the top of my head. A hand in my hair, rubbing in soothing circles. “I don’t think he means what he said,” she said lowly. So they had heard.
I shook my head but she just shushed me, “Give him time, it’s obvious he’s not in the right mind at the moment”. It didn’t matter to me, somewhere deep in his mind he meant that. She held me, soothing me as I cried. Even as I fell asleep.
That morning I woke alone, not that it bothered me. I was becoming used to waking up alone. I didn’t want to leave the safety of the tent. Leaving meant facing the group. Facing 10k. I couldn’t do that, though there wasn’t much choice in that matter. I’d have to leave eventually.
Before I could even think about getting up Warren made her way into the tent, biscuit in hand which she offered out to me. I took it with a small smile.
“He ran off” was all she said, I knew though. I just nodded and so she continued “We’re gonna fight, it'll be messy. I know you got that little girl to take care of so if you wanted to leave” Did I want to leave? I felt indifferent about fighting.
“If you find yourselves out our way, stop by,” I said, she nodded. I’m sure she knew what my choice was going to be. I told her how to find us, “when 10K gets fixed-“
She smiled, “I’ll send him your way, give that little girl a hug for me” I nodded and smiled, turning on my heel to face the tent.
I didn’t waste time gathering my stuff. When I was done, I went to say my goodbyes but saw Addie talking to Warren who held a sullen expression on her face.
Doc grabbed my attention as he said “I hate to see you go again” I turned to look at him.
“I know, I want to stay and make sure he’s okay but I can’t.” He held his hand up as if he understood, “If I would’ve just stayed-“
“Hey, don’t. None of us could’ve known that Murphy was going to do that.” He placed a hand on my shoulder. “Murphy set that whole thing up, he knew what he was doing, it wasn’t your fault”
It was like everything clicked together, he truly had planned it all out. Fucker. He deserves everything that’s coming. “You bring him home to me,” I said, pulling Doc into a tight hug.
“We’ll be right behind you kiddo,” he said into my hair, slowly loosening his hold on me. With that, I left.

FIGURE YOU OUT:
Chapter 1
When Dustin had invited his friends over he didn’t anticipate his sister and niece falling asleep on the couch before they were supposed to arrive.
His original plan had been to have a movie marathon but now he was unsure if they’d both be able to sleep through the noise. He’d known you were up practically all night, he’d heard the frustrated groans and heavy feet even from his room at the top of the stairs.
Normally his well behaved niece would sleep through the night and barely even fuss but the poor two year old was battling an ear infection. “Dude do you think we’ll wake them up if we just watch the movies?” Mike asked hushed as he looked over at the back of the older woman.
“Look I don't want to wake either of them” Dustin sighs quietly, “Y/N was up all night” Lucas made a sympathetic face, and glanced over at the subtle movement of Dustin’s sister.
When y/n graduated highschool, she had run away with her lover leaving their mom distraught. Y/N returned almost a year later, heavily pregnant, crying about how her supposed highschool sweetheart had left her.
Y/N didn’t really like to talk about it in detail, Dustin understood that there was more to it but never pushed. He was happy his older sibling was back, and enjoyed being an uncle.
The loud banging on the door startled the boys, all eyes looking to y/n. The banging continued, causing Dustin to scramble up and jerk the door open. “Dude” he hissed looking up to the curly headed senior.
The smile on Eddie’s face faltered, confused at the not so friendly greeting, “that’s no way to greet a guest Henderson” even his normal speaking voice was boisterous.
“My sister’s asleep on the couch” Dustin spoke quietly causing Eddie to try and peek around the foyer to see for himself. He gave an apologetic smile and pushed past the younger boy.
“What’s the plan, boys?” Eddie asked, trying to be quiet. They all shrugged, unsure what would be quiet enough to not wake the two fast asleep on the couch.
Dustin spoke “y/ns usually a deep sleeper” shrugs and continues, “we can just try going ahead with the movie marathon” The rest of them nodded in agreement, Dustin went to the kitchen and began gathering snacks, the others followed in order to help.
Y/n jolted awake, unaware of the group of teens in the kitchen, or the repeat senior who was supervising them. She looked down making sure the small child wrapped in her arms was still asleep.
She took the opportunity to unwrap from the child and stand, stretching. Y/n took the blanket off the back of the couch covering the toddler with it. The quiet chattering of the teens had reminded her of Dustin’s plan. She felt awful as well as embarrassed.
Y/n made her way to the kitchen and leaned against the frame, “if I ordered pizza would you boys eat any?” This caught the kids off guard causing them to jump, y/n chuckled not aware of the taller man on the other side of the room.
They talked amongst themselves and then nodded in agreement that pizza would be good. “I’ll go order, Dustin can you-“ she didn’t even need to finish her question before he nodded understanding to keep an eye on the toddler.
Y/n called the local pizza place putting in a decent sized order. Treating the teens was the least she could do, especially as she’d realized they had tried to be quiet and still were.
She took the opportunity to freshen up, which just consisted of fixing the loose ponytail and brushing the sleep smell off her breath. Y/n wanted nothing more than to curl into the bed and go back to sleep, but that wouldn’t be fair to either Dustin or her child.
The outfit that was currently being worn was fine, she was going for comfort rather than impression. When y/n came back out and glanced over at the couch her child slept on, tucked into the corner of it was a tall curly headed man.
Dustin had mentioned Eddie before, however, the thought of him being what looked to be almost her age never crossed her mind. He looked at her child as if she was a bomb waiting to go off. Normally she wasn’t much of a worry, but there was no telling today.
“Here let me-” Y/n  started and bent down to pick up her child to give Eddie more room, as he was frantically telling her it was okay. Jovie was picked up carefully and carried to the room she shared with her mother.
Mike smirked and looked at Eddie, “Scared of a baby Munson?” Eddie went to say something but stopped when y/n walked back into the room and spoke, “What’re we watching?”
Dustin had no qualms against his sister joining, she was into just about the same things he was. “I think we’re going to watch a bunch of horror movies” he looked to the rest of the group to make sure they were in agreement.
“Oh! In that case-” she held up a hand, hurrying off to her room again, this time returning with a stack of movies. “Steve dropped these off” Dustin carefully took the stack and looked through it, passing the tapes to each of the boys to get approval.
“Half of these are new releases” Mike states, in shock. Y/n shrugged unsure of what to say, though she knew the gesture was more than just friendly from her babysitter. She wouldn’t entertain the idea.
“You guys cool with these movies then?” Dustin asked and each of them voiced an agreement. He made quick work to start up the first movie, while y/n paced waiting for the pizza afraid that the doorbell would wake up her child.
Eddie made his way to the foyer once the smell of melted cheese wafted into the living room. “Need help?” he asked lowly, y/n gasped not expecting the voice behind her. “Sorry,” he apologized.
Y/N shook her head, “No, you’re fine.” Said nothing else handing over two boxes of pizza. He made his way back to the living room strumming up excitement with the food. Y/n follow behind him shortly after, as she went to set her two boxes down an all too familiar cry erupted. “Fuck, I’m sorry boys” everyone but Eddie mumbled out a dismissal, not caring about the one small cry.
She went to go check on the ill child, Jovie stood in her crib, face crumpled in a grumpy expression. “What is it grumpy butt” y/n asked as she picked up the disheveled child. “Hungry?” Jovie nodded, placing a small hand over her left ear. “I know, time for medicine.” Jovie fussed, y/n bounced her trying to soothe the child “Hey, Uncle Mike and Lucas are here” This seemed to perk the child up.
Y/n smiled as she made her way back to the living room, “My and Lu!” Jovie shouted grabbing everyone’s attention. Making grabby hands at the two boys sitting next to one another.
“Hi Jo” Mike said just as excited, albeit fake enthusiasm. Mike also knew y/n disliked- no hated her child being called Jo. So this was his way of annoying her like any “normal” sibling would.
Jovie’s feet made contact with the floor and went to the two boys, dustin looked over them catching y/ns attention “want me to wait?” He’d been asking about the movie, she shook her head not wanting to throw more of a damper on their movie night even more than she already thought she had.
Dustin went ahead and started the tape while y/n grabbed the medicines from the kitchen. “Come in booger butt” she said sitting on the floor in front of the couch that still held an enamored Eddie.
Eddie watched as y/n expertly spooned each fruity smelling liquid into the toddlers mouth, then rewarding with small cut up bits of pizza. As if they still wouldn’t taste like the gross fruit flavored medication. As much as Eddie wanted to watch the movie, he’d be completely fine watching her all night.
Y/N barely made it through the first movie, Eddie noted when he had glanced from the screen to her. The child however was wide awake, being entertained by Dustin at least at the moment.
In between movies Dustin laid a blanket around his older sibling careful not to wake her, especially as he places a couch pillow behind her neck. It was clear to Eddie, Dustin cared deeply for his sister almost more than some siblings would. Eddie may have thought her ex or baby daddy or whatever, was just a piece of shit and left her to raise the baby on her own. Which is why Dustin cared so much.
Two more movies down and everyone decided to pause for a bathroom break. Eddie was the first back to his seat, noticing the toddler sitting in the middle of the couch as if waiting for him to return, “heydoh” she said clearly trying to say hello.
“Hi” he said, unsure what was happening. Then looked around for Dustin, “I’m Eddie” he continued holding out his giant ring clad hand.
Jovie examined his hand and took her tiny one wrapping it around his pointer finger. He’d almost melted at the gesture, never having an interaction like this before.
She tried to say something but whined placing a hand over her left ear. Eddie looked down to y/n to see if the sound had woken her up but she might as well have been dead.
“Your ear hurt?” Jovie nodded in reply to his question. He glanced around the room trying to find the medicine or grab Dustin’s attention.
Dustin who had overheard was already preparing the medications came over and handed the small measuring cup, “how do I-“ Eddie went to ask but was ignored, he swallowed down the anxiety.
Jovie instinctively opened her mouth ajar, Eddie carefully placed the rim of the cup against her lips and tipped it back. She coughed causing Eddie to curse “oh shit”
“She’s fine” Dustin stated, “she’s dramatic, aren’t you Jovie” she giggled like she knew exactly what he was saying to her. “Thanks for doing that”
Eddie mumbles a no problem as the child crawls in his lap. His arms fly up into the air unsure of where to put them. Jovie made herself comfortable in his lap, uncaring of who he was and focused on the movie. One that he wasn’t sure she should even be watching but if Dustin wasn’t concerned; He wasn’t going to be either.
Hours went on, the Hendersons’ mom had come home to a living room full of sleeping teens and her grandchild. She let them be and went on to bed herself, y/n awake, panicked as she was unable to find her daughter. She stood looking around only to find her tucked away in Eddie Munsons arms as he laid flat across the couch. She smiled softly at the sight contemplating on pulling her from his arms.
Y/n had no intention of waking him up but she’d feel safer if her daughter was asleep in her crib. As she tried to gently take Jovie from his arms, they tightened around her slightly and y/n decided to not worry about it. Her brother wouldn’t be friends with some weirdo, right? She made sure to place a blanket over the both of them, once she was satisfied that Jovie wasn’t going to roll off the couch she made her way back to her bedroom, changed her clothes and crawled back into bed.

Fire on Fire: Part 19 (10k)
Tumblr media
I can’t fucking believe Murphy, well actually I can. He would find the only functioning correctional institute and then drug me and throw me in here in the middle of the fucking apocalypse. I’ve lost count of how many days I’ve been here, I should’ve started counting the medicine cups that are filled with fucking peanuts.
You want to know what he told them? I was a grieving widow, that had tried to commit suicide. Nurse Ratched “diagnosed” me with severe depression, and postpartum psychosis because he also told her my child died and I hallucinated a girl named Emma. He really covered his fucking bases. That nurse will never let me leave now.
I stayed locked in this padded cell day in and day out. Nurse keeping me doped up enough to sleep majority of the day. Keeping track of the days were impossible even if I tried. I think one day I was conscious enough to hear them struggle putting someone in the padded cell next to me but also at the same time I could’ve imagined it.
The door to my room opened, fucking nurse. “Get up Mrs. Gonzalez you’re moving to gen. pop.” Oh, yeah. I forgot to mention he gave them Angels last name to really twist the knife. How he knew Angels last name was beyond me but regardless he knew it.
I stood with the nurses help. She walked around me to stop at my back, carefully undoing the straps to the straight jacket that kept me contained. I could break her neck easily, that would be if it weren’t for the sedatives that still lived in my system.
She led the way down twisting pale walls, to a common room where a mix of nut jobs walked around. She introduced them, all except for the one in the straight jacket. Who in all honesty kinda looked like Doc. Holy shit that was Doc.
Now play it cool y/n, I sat down in the seat next to him, hearing him groan softly. A couple other patients following suit. We all sat there staring at one another until Doc awoke. Of course she mistook him for an actual doctor though I guess he really is one with his PhD.
He looked over at me keeping his face stoic. How we seemed to end up together was beyond me but I’ll gladly have the universe on my side. She of course made him diagnose patients to prove his skill was true.
“Mrs Gonzalez is our second newest patient, dropped off by her poor uncle. I was hesitant to take her in but once he said she had lost both her husband and child and was trying to join them, I knew I had to take her on.” oh spare me the righteousness act. “Would you join me Doctor to look at the newest intake?”
“Uh sure” Doc got up and went with her. I sat there alone counting down the seconds for that familiar face to show back up. Nothing against the other patrons but they weren’t my cup of tea. When Doc came back his face was unreadable.
He spoke with the nurse, I could hear bits and pieces about the patient needed meds. I stood walking closer to listen in. Doc was needing to run recon into an infested ward to get this poor patient meds.
Nurse Ratched tried to talk him out of it, saying it was a death march but Doc denied, said he’d be okay. So we all took a field trip to the infested ward that you just had to walk through to get the medications. Doc grabbed a broken IV pole as I said “I’m going with you Doctor” before Nurse Ratched had any time to detest Doc handed me the other half of the IV pole. Nurse Ratched sighed heavily and opened the door.
Once the doors shut behind us we headed down the hall. “How the hell did you get here” Doc started but stopped before asking anything else as a Z came toward him. He easily piked it. “Murphy” was the only answer he needed before he sighed and said “Damn Murphy, hey kid not to freak you out but we’re getting meds for 10K”
I paused, every emotion I could think of running through me at once and just landing in the pit of my stomach. “He’s here?” Doc nodded, I pushed the feelings that threatened to spill out of my throat down. “What’s going on?”
Doc sighed entering the pharmacy, “I don’t know, he’s all kinds of fucked up right now” opening the cabinets he began taking bottles of medication and putting them in the pillow case. “He’s mumbling about you and Emma, hell murphy too.” Guilt panged in my chest, this wasn’t going to be easy. Seeing him and explaining everything all the while he’s for a lack of better words dying.
I stayed silent as we made our way back, Pete the OCD patient letting us back in. Doc made off to the surgery suite they held 10K in. I stood at the door watching as Doc started mixing medications together and making some fucked science concoction. He pulled it up in a syringe as 10k started seizing again. “A little help!” Doc shouted towards me.
I lept into action pulling him over to the side making sure he wouldn’t choke to death. Doc shoved the needle into his ass and injected him. 10K lolled back and laid there for a moment before julting up. “How you feel?” Doc asked.
“I don’t know” He said before falling back against the gurney and immediately snoring. I walked out after that, not being able to see him like that and not being able to the thought of him waking up and seeing me.
I sat in the common room after that, away in a corner with a book even though I’m wasn’t reading it in the slightest, just stared at the pages until they looked like alphabet soup. “Y/n” Doc said my name softly pulling me from my daze. I looked up at him to see Elvis holding onto a conscious 10k. “He’s still really out of it but we gotta get out of here” I couldn’t agree more.
While they’re doing their recreation time we sneak out the back. “There’s bus over there” Doc says holding up 10ks almost dead weight. I run over and start hot wiring the bus and drive it as close to Doc and 10k as I can.
Doc gets 10k louded and takes over the driver's seat, I take the seat behind him. 10K slept a couple seats behind us. “I literally have no idea what to say when he wakes up”
Doc sighed “Just tell him the truth, be honest with him. The kid loves you and I’m sure he’d understand” I could only hope he did. Only hope he didn’t resent me for what I did. I also hope that Emma was still doing okay.

Fire on Fire: Part 18 (10k)
Tumblr media
Pairings: 10k and mom!reader.
A/N: Hey! I know it’s really been a hot minute, I’ve had like no time to post the next couple chapters with fancy vet school and working full time. Hopefully you all can forgive me especially since the next few chapters are rough. Again, I’m sooooo sorry. :( If i managed to find some extra time would you be interested in a different 10k story line?
                                              Chapter 18
We stayed a few days, making sure doc was good to travel. Emma kept her distance from him, unsure of the new temporary member.
She cried when I left, I heard her from outside the house. Begging for me to come back, it took everything in me to not turn around to say fuck you im not going. Doc tried to comfort me but it only turned the tears into anger.
The first time I smelled the forgotten smell of rotten flesh I threw up. “Damn kid, you alright?” Doc asked as he held my hair.
“Funnily enough I forgot how bad they smell” I weakly chuckled. He looked at me concerned. “What?”
“Are you-“ he hesitated for a moment, “any chance you’re pregnant?”
“Absolutely not, it’s been too long” at least I thought anyways. I’d have to try and worry about that math later. I was decently sure.
Doc thought for a moment, his face softened “you’re right, it’s been a bit”
It took us two weeks to make it back to their camp, addy was the first one to notice. “Holy shit” she ran over and wrapped me in her arms squeezing me tight.
I returned the gesture, watching over Addys shoulder as Vasquez and Warren turned to look. Warren let a small smile adorn her face. We took our time catching up before the plan went into action.
I kept the hood over my head, waiting in line as Murphy bit people ahead of me.
Did I know what waited for me? No I didn’t. Though I think I’d rather have death than being bit by him.
“Take off that hood” one of his lackeys shouted at me. I pretending I didn’t hear him. “Yo, take it off” that earned me a shove.
Back before the world went to shit, Angel had a friend who was deaf. He taught me some sign though I was surely rusty, I signed the best my memory could allow. The lackey was perplexed.
“Hey they’re deaf, asshole. Leave them alone” Murphy stated, I watched as his feet made their way towards me. I swallowed down my anxiety.
Looking up I managed to keep the hood covering the majority of my face. Murphy offered his hand and I took it. I’d been careful to remove anything he would’ve remembered was mine. He led the way inside the compound leaving the line of sick people fussing and whining.
“Excuse me” the voice made my heart clench, one I couldn’t forget. Keeping my head bowed I watched hidden under the hood as his booted feet clunked away from us down the stairs. We came to a stop after many twists and turns. As much as I wanted to look up I didn’t. I watched his feet as he paced across the room we were in.
I heard scribbling And then nothing. A yellow note pad came into view. Written on the page was “take off the hood Y/N”. My Stomach fell, of course he knew. Carefully I pulled the hood off from over my head, light flooding my Vision. Murphy stood in front of me, blue tinged skin and his face holding a wolfish grin.
“I really do admire your determination” the smugness exuded from him. “I knew you’d eventually come for him”
I swallowed down “I’m here for you” he shook his head in refusal.
“I have my own empire here, one you’re welcome to stay in” he offered, lurching closer, face looming over mine. “You’d have him, and be immune, what more could you want” his warm breath wafted on my face, the faintest hint of cinnamon scented it.
I rolled my eyes, “I just want to go back to my daughter, I can’t do that unless I get you to come with me”
“Why would I do that?” He had a point, I had nothing to offer and by the looks of it he really did have his own empire. “Cat got your tongue” he purrs, going to cup my cheek, I coil at the touch.“Mm how about, I send you and your lover on your merry way?”
“What’s in it for you?” I questioned, it wasn’t like him to give up this offer. Especially if 10k was pissed at me. That was something I didn’t know, and something I probably shouldn’t chance.
Murphy looks at his nails in contemplation, picking at them. “Without him, what leverage do they have? Why else would you have come?” He had a point, but I also promised Doc I’d return Murphy to them. “Your story could be over, I could make him forget you ever left. Send him home with you to make more little monsters” The offer was almost too good. I just couldn’t bring myself to take it. I shook my head and he smirked. “Have it your way”
He gestured to the door in a nice way of saying fuck off. I didn’t budge, I stood there holding my ground as if I wasn’t on “enemy” territory. His eyes bore into mine as if searching my soul. “I really like you kid” he spoke truth, baring his soul to me. It wasn’t a confession of anything but admiration. “If i decide to leave with you, would you be willing to make a deal?”
“What kind of deal?” I asked, unsure of what he could possibly be proposing. He just smiled as a stinging sensation erupted at the base of my neck. I hissed, trying to step forward but swayed as the room began to spin. Opening my mouth to say something but unsure if anything fell out as my eyelids became too heavy to keep apart. Darkness swallowed me.
-
God my head was pounding. What the hell happened. Can I even open my eyes. It feels like I’m trying to, maybe it’s just dark. Why did it smell like bleach. I’m gonna kill murphy, my new personal goal.
“Hey, I think she’s awake” A unfamiliar voice sounded to the left of me. I couldn’t move, what the fuck. The little light that shown threw my lashes were enough to make me close them again. There was heels clicking on some type of flooring.
“Group welcome our newest patient, Y/N”

Fire on Fire: Part 17 (10k)
Tumblr media
Pairing: 10k and mom!reader
A/N: AH GUYS IM SORRY!! This is probably the start of the last few chapters, very unsure but I do have the next few chapters written and planned so I will be trying to post regularly on a schedule. If you guys have any suggestions for anything please remember my requests are open and I’m down for ideas for where to go next with this story or to even write another story!
                                                         Chapter 17
I carefully removed Emma from my leg, giving her over to Maggie. Readying my screwdriver, I quietly went up the stairs. I had no clue what I was walking into. Whatever it was, I wasn't prepared.
“Davis?” I said quietly, making myself known was breaking every rule ever but I didn't care at this moment.
“You’re fine sweetheart” Davis sounded, his voice coming from the family room. Timidly I headed in that direction, unsure what I would find. Laid in front of Davis was dirt and blood-covered Doc.
“Well, I’ll be damned” I mumble to myself. Davis propped Doc up against a bare part of the wall and made his way to the kitchen. He returned with a rag and bowl of water. There was no way to tell if Doc had been bit without cleaning him up and if he had, we were working against the clock.
It felt like forever, scrubbing away at the caked-on grime. So far we came up with no bites or scratches, Davis took it upon himself to change Doc, while I went to tell Maggie and Emma it was safe.
Davis had laid Doc down on the couch, taking precautions in tying his hands together. I don’t know how he found us, Murphy certainly wouldn’t have told them. Doc was a smart guy surely he could’ve figured it out himself. Also if he was here, did that mean the others weren’t far behind? Was I going to have to face 10k? Was he even alive? All these questions and more swarmed around my head, consuming my every thought. My feet were planted still, is this what a panic attack felt like? The whole world seemed to be closing in on me, the room was growing smaller.
“y/n, do you know this guy?” Maggie was the first to break the silence, the one to pull me back into reality. I nodded slowly, looking down at Emma who peaked at Doc from behind my leg.
“He was a member of my group, if he’s here they’re probably not far behind” I almost hoped they weren’t. I was being selfish again. I knew what it meant, knew that my time in this haven was over, Emma would be exposed to what the world was really like. I didn’t want that.
Maggie and Davis shared a look, one I couldn’t quite read. Maggie nodded at me, acknowledging what I had said before she turned and went into the kitchen. Pots and pans cluttered together signaling Maggie was making dinner. I sent Emma in with her to help as I sat in the armchair beside the couch, watching as Doc's chest rose and fell. Davis said nothing as he left the room. I was left to my thoughts once again.
-
“Mama, is he going to wake up?” Emma asked quietly, I looked over at her and gave her a small smile.
“Yeah, he’s just tired” I watched her make her way over and crawl into my lap. She perched on the arm of the chair to watch him. She stayed and watched for a while until sleep took over, beckoning her into the darkness.
Now she was curled in my lap, head resting on the arm of the chair as she breathed softly. I braided a strand of hair, glancing over at Doc who had moved. Pausing, I waited, listening for the rasping moan to signify he wasn’t one of us anymore. It didn’t come, instead, I heard a curse, which made a small smile appear on my mouth.
“Dammit,” He said, awake enough to notice his bound hands, he looked around taking in his surroundings before landing on me. He studied me, moved his eyes down to Emma, then back up. He shot up, excitement clear on his face.
Davis appeared in the corner of my eye, he caught Doc’s attention. “Y/n I think you can handle the interrogation while I get this man some food” Davis walked past and into the kitchen.
“I have so many questions,” Doc started, staring at Emma and me in awe. I shook my head silently saying no me first, he nodded.
“Where is the rest of the group?” I spoke, looking at him and his change in demeanor.
He frowned, “After you left, shit went down. 10k got shot, and Murphy went AWOL. Warren is trying to track him down.” 10K was shot, as if he could read my mind he said, “He’s with Murphy”
I nodded, swallowing the lump in my throat. Trying to push past the 3 words my mind clings to. “Why are you here”
He studied me for a moment, “we thought you could help us”.
I shook my head, “I don’t think that’s a good idea”
“I wouldn’t have come for you if we had any other options,” doc said, voice pleading. He looked down at Emma who was studying him.
Davis came in, setting a plate of food on the coffee table for Doc then held out a hand for Emma, who got up and took it following alongside of him as he went into the kitchen.
“Doc, I don't know what you expect me to do” Doc leaned forward picking the plate up with his bound hands. Digging into the warm food with no issues, he groaned. “You don’t even know where Murphy is”
“We’re working on it” Mouth full of food, not caring how messy he was being. “Murphy for some reason likes you, maybe you could talk to him when we find him”
I sighed “Let me think about it”. I left it at that, not caring about his bound hands I got up and made my way outside.
My stomach churned, breathing rapidly. I bent over and emptied the contents of my stomach. Groaning, I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand.
Thoughts raced through my mind, what was even the correct choice anymore. I just got Emma back, I liked it here but 10K, he needed my help, he needed me.
I couldn’t just leave her and I for sure wasn’t going to take her with me into that cruel world. She was unaware of the dangers outside the walls of safety the elderly couple had built.
If 10k were in my shoes, he’d come to save me in a heartbeat. I was just being selfish, that was fair right? To want to stay here hidden from the world, at least for the moment. I know it won't last forever but just to hang on to some form of normality.
Fuck. Just fuck. I don’t even think he’d want to see me. I abandoned him, I did all but kill him. As for Murphy, fuck him. Fuck the cure. I wasn’t going. I’d stay here. It was what was right, right? Sure it was. Yeah, fuck them.
The back door creaked open causing me to look up to see Maggie making her way to me. “What’s wrong dear?” She asked, offering to help me up. I took her hand, for an older lady she was surely strong and able. She heaved me up with no issues.
She could see through me so easily, I couldn’t lie to her. “That guy I told you about, he needs my help, but I don’t want to leave you guys and I certainly don’t want to take Emma with me”
Maggie looked at me taking in the words as she scanned my eyes a small smile appeared on her face. “Stop listening to your head sweetheart, it’s not as complicated as you think.”
I looked at her taken back by her words. She was right, my heart ached for him, for his touch. No matter what my head tried to prove more important.
“Emma can stay with us, you know where we are. Bring him home.” She meant to bring him back with me, have him live here with us. Maybe this could work. Maybe she was right.
I nodded. I’d leave out once Doc was fully on his feet. I’d bring 10k home. Maggie and I headed back inside, past Davis and Emma who were coloring while eating dinner. I continued my walk alone after stepping through the threshold of the kitchen into the living room. I caught docs attention, who had a second plate in his now unbound hands.
“I’ll go, just one condition” I crossed my arms over my chest. Doc nodded all ears. “You won’t ask for my help again. I can’t do this anymore. This is it.”
“Sounds like a deal” he nodded. I gave a curt nod and left him to finish his meal. I began packing which really wasn’t much, I really hadn’t expected to stay here as long as we had.
I barely caught the stealthy footsteps behind me in time to turn around. “Mama?” It was quiet, almost silent.
“Yeah, baby?” I asked, giving her a small smile. She looked at me hurt like I shattered her heart.
“What doing?” Her childish grammar broke through as she stepped forward grabbing ahold of my outstretched hand.
“Someone needs my help Em, remember how I told you mamas like a superhero?” She nodded. “I’ve got to go away for a little bit, but I’ll be back before you know it” I sat her on the edge of the bed, letting her legs dangle over.
“Do have to?” She asked so innocently, “me miss you” her eyes teared up, and she jutted out her bottom lip.
“And I’ll miss you.” I pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. It was hard explaining this to her, to really explain the world to her. “Once I get back I’m never going away again, pinky promise” I held out my pinky, and she stared at it for a moment hesitant to hook her pinky with mine it took a moment but she did.
“Can’t break it” she sniffles, letting a small tear leave her eye, I thumbed it away. Promising her I wouldn’t dream of breaking it. “I love you as long as the sun rises and sets” I spoke, causing a small Smile to adorn her face. "Forever,” she said, I nodded and said “forever”
Leaving her wasn’t going to be easy. She’s old enough to remember now, old enough to actually be hurt. As long as she was safe here, that’s all that mattered.
“Em, I see Honey '' a smirk worked its way to my lips as I noticed the yellow cat outside the window. Honey was what she named the barn cat, her eyes went wide and she pushed herself off the edge of the bed.
She screamed excitedly, “Honey!” And ran, scrambling to make it outside fast enough. Surely grabbing Davis to help her catch the cat. I sighed just one last mission. One last time out in that rotten world. One last goodbye. This was it. This was the beginning of the end.
