Y'know what else I love? How damn much Ed loves and wants Stede. Like, no one outside the crew can believe it. Izzy thinks Ed's brain has broken. Zheng straight-up keeps saying that Ed dumped Stede. Archie is flabbergasted that Stede is "STEDE Stede?!"

The Revenge crew all get it, though. They went from plotting mutiny to defending him with all their might. Lucius watches Ed and Stede fall in love in real-time. Jim, the most deeply critical of Stede from the start, tells his stories to Fang and longs for when life had meaning on the ship. Olu stays up all night with him and later follows him everywhere. The Swede owes him a life debt. Buttons, probably the most experienced sailor of the group, declares him a pirate with his whole chest.

Stede just showed up one day with his fancy unicorn boat and fancy clothes and depth of human kindness and promptly seduced the most feared pirate of Caribbean without even trying.

They're like the Roger and Jessica Rabbit of pirates.

Underrated moment in "Fun and Games":

When Annie says that Stede "might like the ladies" and Ed does a double take and shakes his head at Stede like: "This...this man? This incredibly fucking gay man?"

Ed is uncertain about a lot of things in his relationship with Stede, but boy does he know that Stede is gay.

Not to mention that Stede's idea of defending himself is "no, she kissed me and threw up"...

I love so much how Stede reacts to Ed hiding under the blanket. Because is running off to the other room to hide under a blanket the most mature way to handle being upset? Not particularly. But does Stede judge him for it? Not at all. You know that if Anne and Mary had come in while Ed was still under the blanket they absolutely would have made fun of him for it. Stede would never.

And Stede asks him to come out from the blanket, but he doesn't insist on it. He doesn't try to make Ed come out or get annoyed or try to take the blanket off. He just keeps talking to Ed through the blanket until he comes out. They're so soft with each other 😭

i've been hyper-focused on the beach kisses for two weeks, but decided to revisit the pre-intimacy kiss and fully lost myself in it again. because like...

the way they move as one and hold onto each other so tightly. the way they share so many different thoughts and words simply through their gazes alone. the way stede doesn't proceed without explicit consent from ed, and the way ed gives him a legitimate little nod to signal his ok. the way they both ease towards each other at the same time, and meet each other right in the middle.

the way ed immediately reaches his hand around stede's neck and tugs him impossibly close, effectively making their bodies just melt into one another's. the way stede's hands drop from ed's collar when their kiss begins, and the way ed's hand follows one of his down—intertwined. the way ed reaches his other hand around stede's back, fully embracing him and holding him in a way he's probably always wanted to, holding him in a way where nothing bad could ever possibly reach stede again. the way stede threads his fingers through ed's hair, cradles the back of his head so tenderly.

the way such touch, intimacy, and love comes so naturally to them. the way they've both been so deprived of it, yet with each other, it's like coming home. the way it just clicks, it just makes sense, it just happens so beautifully...

and the way it chases away the bad—turns poison into positivity.

enough about that other guy, i want to talk about stede in season two.

i want to talk about how he didn't even care that all his things had been destroyed, that his only concern was what that destruction said about ed's state of mind.

i want to talk about how he mucked right in with the crew at jackie'z and on zheng's ship.

i want to talk about that excellent belly flop into the fucking ocean when they found the revenge.

i want to talk about that absolute romantic hero moment on the rocky shoreline, giving the bottle a kiss before tossing it into the sea

i want to talk about how completely he understands ed, from burn the world or die trying to i know (you love me). i know that.

i want to talk about how he remains his bitchy, hapless, cringefail self while still growing as a person and getting better at things. His better may still be worse than other people's good but he's getting there.

i want to talk about how he gave up his swishy red suit because the crew needed him to.

i want to talk about how much more palpably comfortable he is in his own skin this season, with none of the finery that was a shield and a prison for him his whole life.

i want to talk about how he never, ever gave up on ed no matter what. Because stede was in Love, goddamn it, finally, and he was not going to lose that, to death or mutiny or anything else.
