SJM doesn't understand Nesta, never has and never will. I can't even understand how she accidentally wrote such a great relatable character. And I also can't understand how she can say she loves her and then put her through so much without giving her the healing arc she deserves and not even fully understand her. Nesta deserve a better author.

You know, I honestly love that Nesta makes crafts badly, that she has to learn how to be good at punching people, that she practices her dances in the library when no one is watching, that she couldn’t play an instrument or sing, that she doesn’t have very good balance in the beginning and that any physical exercise exhausts her. Even that she doesn’t heal nicely and that she aches with it all. I love the fact that we read practically four books of her being seemingly otherworldly and something other and different and proud, and then when it’s her own narration all she is… is normal. 

Sure, she can make houses come to life and finds age old weapons and defeats death gods, but what does she want to do? Read smut at home. Eat chocolate cake. Soak in a bath that smells of lavender. What can she do? Not much that comes easy. She has fairly low ambition. It’s other people that give her specific roles or tasks for whatever odd end. Her mother, her sisters, the IC, the Mother even. 

It’s why I think she’s like the perfect reluctant hero archetype in terms of characterization. Because throughout the series, she doesn’t want to be the hero nor is very heroic, but she does what she has to do in whatever situation it is necessary in though she fights it a little bit more than most… and then when it’s all over, who is she? Just someone who wants to listen to music.
