Boy Meets Maria, 07/20
Boy Meets Maria is officially my favorite manga of all time and I don’t think anything will ever be able to knock it down from that place. If you’re looking for discussions on sexuality, gender fluidity, individualism, public perception, and trauma then this manga may be the one for you.
Boy Meets Maria follows Taiga, an enthusiastic teenager dead set on becoming a famous actor one day. On his first day of school he falls head-over-heels for Maria, a student in the dance troupe. However, he quickly learns that Maria only uses this name for the dance troupe and instead presents masculine, as a boy, outside of performances as Arima. Taiga quickly falls for Arima and finds that the way they present and their gender does not matter to him. While this is a love story, their story contains so many important discussions that leads to them learning to love & be loved.
CW/TW: Sexual assault, rape, pedophilia, death of a parent, homophobia, & emotional abuse.

LGBT Quick Reads
In no particular order. These are novellas, short stories and comics I’ve read and enjoyed.
1. The Labyrinth’s Archivist by Day Al-Mohamed: f/f fantasy (novella). This is my favourite novella. The protagonist is a blind queer woman of colour and the worldbuilding is amazing.
2. The Faerie Hounds of York by Arden Powell: m/m fantasy (novella). The author tells an intriguing story involving faerie rings. The love interest is Romani.
3. Burning Roses by SL Huang: f/f fantasy + a trans woman major character (novella). This wonderful novella mixes Western fairy tales and Eastern mythology.
4. Spells, Snow & Sky by Coffee Quills: f/f/f fantasy (novella). I enjoy polyamory representation. One of the love interests is a yokai (Japanese spirit).
5. Worm in a Jar by B. Pigeon: f/nb fantasy (novella). This sweet story has a casual, everyday vibe to it.
6. The Old Guard written by Greg Rucka and illustrated by Leandro Fernández: m/m fantasy with some f/f (comics + Netflix movie). Who doesn’t like a story about queer immortals? No risk of Bury Your Gays.
7. Bright World written and illustrated by Stan Stanley: fantasy with a non-binary protagonist (webcomics + paperback). This is my favourite comics. I love the Latinx worldbuilding and the colourful art.
8. Scholars and Sorcery by Eleanor Beresford: f/f fantasy (novellas). This short series is super sweet. It’s mostly about life at a magic school. For more HP-like LGBT books, check out my rec list.
9. When the Letter Comes by Sara Fox: fantasy with a trans girl protagonist (short story). This is another HP-like LGBT story. It’s a little sad at first, but it gets better. You can read it legally and for free here.
10. Indie Bites: fantasy magazine (short stories and book reviews). It isn’t specifically LGBT, but some of the stories are. You can get the issues legally and for free here.
11. The Stone Wētā by Octavia Cade: science fiction with a trans woman major character (novella). This is cli-fi where an international network of scientists have to secretly preserve climate data from their governments.
12. Glorious Day by Skye Kilaen: f/f science fiction (novella). It’s an excellent bodyguard/princess novella, with a rebellion in the background. The princess is blind.
13. Ana on the Edge by AJ Sass: sports with a non-binary protagonist (MG). The story follows a young figure-skating champion questioning her gender identity.
14. Fence written by CS Pacat and illustrated by Johanna the Mad: m/m sports (comics + spin-off novels by Sarah Rees Brennan). This one is about a fencing club and is inspired by many sports anime.
15. Cheer Up: Love and Pompoms written by Crystal Frasier and illustrated by Val Wise: f/f sports with a trans girl love interest (comics). This is a very cute friends-to-lovers story between two cheerleaders.
16. Heartstopper written and illustrated by Alice Oseman: m/m romance (webcomics + paperbacks + Netflix TV series in production). It’s focused on Nick and Charlie’s relationship. They also appear in Solitaire (novel), Nick and Charlie (novella) and This Winter (novella).
17. Billions of Beautiful Hearts by Kevin Craig: nb/nb romance (short story). If you don’t mind reading Covid lockdown stories, this one is very cute.
18. The Christmas Chevalier by Meg Mardell: historical fiction with a trans man protagonist (novella). This is a lovely story, with a Christmas masquerade.

If you follow Selmers to the poetry society meeting in Night In The Woods, this is her poem. I loved it and the themes of the game, and wanted to use it as practice to see if i can control the way readers ‘hear’ the words through images.

literally we need to get rid of the stigma of questioning once and for all.
call yourself gay. call yourself ace. call yourself a lesbian today and a nonbinary bi trans man tomorrow. its fine. literally no community has ever been harmed by someone thinking that label might apply to them and then discarding it later. anyone who says otherwise is drinking the exclusionary kool-aid and isn’t worth the time it would take to argue with them.

Something really shitty has just been passed by the UK goverment.
A new bill that is stripping out human rights has been passed and we need to fight it before it costs lives. The new Human Rights Bill has made nazi Germans esc changes that will effect you or somone you love.
The most notiable parts being:
-If you are admitted to hospital with a disability or chronic condition a doctor can put a DNR do not ressusatate on you and you can’t appeal it.
-They are stopping woman from being able to move fowards with assault charges
- They are making it impossible for victims of terrorism to get justice. They won’t let people like the victims of the hillsborough disaster hold the people responsible
Please do your own research if you must but we can’t let this happen!
There a petition to sign that’s already half way there so please share it around and tell ppl in the UK what is happening.

On one hand, I get frustrated when some of the first things people circulate about the Roe decision is that “they will come for X next.” It feels like it minimizes what was just lost and encourages the attitude of only caring when the threat could be leveraged against issues that affect you. I know that isn’t usually what is happening or intended, it just feels kind of like it sometimes. On the other hand, we have have Clarence Thomas out here saying that "we should reconsider all of this Court’s substantive due process precedents, including Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell,” so as much as I wish we could take two whole seconds to focus on the fact that the right to bodily autonomy just took a massive blow, we need to stay vigilant, because it really can get a lot worse.
