As in womenswear, early 17th century menswear styles maintained the basic features of late 16th century dress. However, come the 1610s romantic adornments and embellishments really started to explode in popularity. Rosettes were added to shoes, lace trimmed collars and cuffs, and sashes became a way to signify group membership in an era before military uniforms. While women's fashion became fuller, men's styles slimmed further and further until the silhouette was far removed from the boxy shape of the 1500s.

By the 1600s long hair was well and truly back in fashion for men. Toward the end of the century - when French king Louis XIV began to lose his hair - thick, flowing wigs came into fashion. Beards were less popular than previous centuries, but moustaches were still in vogue. These were styled and kept neat with wax. As hair volume grew facial hair decreased, until it all but went out of fashion by the end of the century. CC links and reference images under the cut.

The Baroque period saw a softening of women's fashion, with the silhouette becoming fuller and higher waisted. Leg-o-mutton and three quarter sleeves added a billowy upper half to dresses. Shimmering soft satins and tonnes of delicate lace trimmings were all the rage. Necklines continued to broaden, eventually even falling off the shoulders in some styles.

Baroque accessories - BONUS EDITION!
A quirky little trend that was popular in the 1600s was the fashionable wearing of masks. These were usually made from pasteboard or leather and covered in black silk or velvet, making them a relatively affordable and highly visible way of wearing fine fabrics without having to purchase the yards of textile required for a full garment. They also provided privacy and an air of mystery to the wearer. CC links and reference images under the cut.

Since my 2k follower CAS background collection was a hit I thought it would be fun to put together some companion collections for my Ultimate Decades Challenge content. Going forward they'll release at the same time as their associated lookbooks and CC collections, but for now I'm retroactively posting backgrounds for the 1300s, 1400s and 1500s. I always like to put a colour palette together before I start working on an historical lookbook to aid with visual consistency, and for the 1300s I pulled the colours directly from pigments used at the time (complete with period-appropriate names).
You can download them here, but be sure to only add one to your mods folder at a time.

In the early part of the 17th century holdovers from the Tudor period continued to be in style, but soon enough the iconic ruff would evolve into delicate soft and standing lace collars. By the 1620s women's fashion - and by extension their accessories - became a lot more simple. Hats kept growing in size from the previous century, both in width and height. Pearls were HUGELY popular as they were a way to display wealth. In fact, it's hard to find a woman's portrait from this period that doesn't feature pearl jewellery. The Baroque period is often an overlooked one, thanks in large part to the fact that the incredibly iconic Tudor and Rococo periods bookend it. However, it still had some standout trends of its own - most notably the unique hairstyles that 1600s women donned. Delicate face-framing curls became all the rage and styles lowered in height, instead moving volume to the sides. CC links and reference images under the cut.

Yowza! It seems like only yesterday that I was hitting 1K follows, now I'm sitting here with 2K 🤯 I can't thank you all enough for the amazing support of my silly little hobby. To give back I wanted to create something special, so I taught myself how to make CAS backgrounds and put together this collection inspired by my nerdy sci-fi interests and favourite colours. I love a good radial gradient for my lookbook backgrounds so I went in that direction, but I also made a solid version for each colour for those of you who prefer.

By the 1500s we start to see the broad and square silhouette come into fashion for men. This impressive shape was achieved through the use of over-the-top sleeves, balloon-like pants and overcoats made from layers upon layers of billowing fabric. Wealth and status were communicated through rich fabrics and opulent ornamentation, with some English and French lords even bankrupting themselves to pay for these wardrobes.

I'm interrupting the Ultimate Decades Challenge timeline to bring you these GORGEOUS medieval inspired belts. Recently @flowermilksims released two collections and when I tell you I was crying screaming throwing up. There were basically no CC medieval belts when I was working on the 1300s and 1400s, so I'm really glad these stunning ones are now out in the world.
You can check out part one (metal and gems) here and part two (cloth) here.

Headwear for men in the Tudor period reflected the billowy silhouette of their clothing. Hats and caps were often soft and folded, and embellished with jewels or medallions to denote social status. Furs hadn't just become popular in clothing, they also migrated to headwear. Like clothing, jewellery and other ornamentation became more and more ostentatious for those who could afford it. Welcome back to the glitz and glamour of the 1920s birthstone lookbook! After hair, jewellery is my favourite CC to hunt for so these ensembles were so much fun for me to put together. Want more good time gals and fabulous flappers? You can check out part one here.
Ruby is one of the most expensive gemstones and with its rich red colour it isn't hard to see why. Rubies have long been connected with physicality and strength, thought to be intimately connected with the human body.
Hair | Earrings (TSR) | Necklace (TSR) | Dress | Gloves | Bracelets | Ring (TSR) | Shoes (TSR)
Peridot is one of my favourite stones thanks to its gorgeous yellow-green hue. Because of this lively appearance they were often thought to protect their wearer at night.
Hair (retired - direct download) | Hairband (TSR) | Earrings | Necklace | Fur Bolero | Dress | Gloves | Bracelet | Cigarette Holder | Stockings (TSR) | Shoes
Sapphire is considered a protective gemstone. They may shield the wearer from physical harm, as well as bad intentions and envy. It was also thought that sapphires had medicinal properties.
Hat | Hair | Earrings | Necklace (TSR) | Coat | Gloves & Stockings (Base Game) | Shoes
Opal is an incredibly unique gemstone with its multi-coloured appearance. Opals are associated with light and magic, with some crediting them with healing properties.
Hair | Earrings | Necklace (TSR) | Feather Trim | Dress (TSR) | Gloves | Bracelet (TSR) | Ring (TSR) | Stockings | Shoes
Topaz comes from the Sanskrit word for fire, which is reflected in its vibrant and rich orange-yellow colour. It is believed that topaz worn above the heart assures long life, beauty and intelligence.
Hair | Hairband | Earrings | Choker (TSR) | Coat | Dress | Gloves (Vampires) | Shoes
Blue Topaz actually comes out of the ground colourless or pale blue. A two-step heat and radiation laboratory treatment is then used to turn these stones vivid blue.
Hair (TSR) | Hairband | Earrings & Bracelets | Necklace (TSR) | Dress | Gloves & Stockings (Base Game) | Shoes

To coincide with the recent release of the Crystal Creations pack I wanted to put together a couple of fun lookbooks inspired by birthstones. My mind first went to whimsigoth, but since I've already done one of those recently I instead went with the decade that oozed glittery glamour - the 1920s. Want more good time gals and fabulous flappers? You can check out part two here.
Garnet was believed to be a protective stone, which made it popular amongst warriors and royalty. Red variety garnets are also associated with vitality, love and light.
Tiara | Hair | Earrings (TSR) | Capelet (TSR) | Dress (direct download - The Flapper) | Brooch | Gloves | Bracelet (TSR) | Ring (TSR) | Stockings (Base Game) | Shoes
Amethyst was favoured by the ruling class thanks to its purple colour, which has long been a hue connected to royalty. Over time it has also come to be associated with spirituality, mental clarity and healing.
Hair | Hairband | Earrings (TSR) | Necklace (TSR) | Coat | Gloves | Ring (TSR) | Stockings (Base Game) | Shoes
Aquamarine comes from the Latin word for seawater and as such, was thought to protect seafarers. The stone can also be associated with martial happiness and superior intellect.
Hairband | Hair | Earrings | Necklace (TSR) | Dress | Cuffs | Ring | Shoes
Diamond is probably the most well known of the precious gems. Because of their association with strength and eternal love, they're a popular choice for engagement and wedding rings.
Hat | Hair (retired - direct downloand) | Earrings (TSR) | Necklace & Armbands | Dress | Gloves | Stockings (Spooky Stuff) | Shoes
Emerald has a legend that says wearing it will imbue the wearer with heightened intelligence and objectivity. Others use the stone to promote healing, while some even believe it allows the wearer to predict the future.
Hair | Hairband | Earrings (TSR) | Necklace | Dress | Gloves (Vampires) | Bracelet (TSR) | Ring | Shoes (TSR)
Pearl is often valued for its unblemished surface and colouring, so naturally it is most commonly connected to qualities like honesty, purity and wisdom.
Hair | Hairband | Earrings (retired - direct download) | Necklace | Dress | Fur Stole (Curseforge) | Bracelets | Stockings | Shoes
