Stolen City by Elisa A. Bonnin
Tumblr media
cover art by @sgonzalesart
Twin thieves attempt to pull off a daring heist in Stolen City, the sophomore fantasy novel from Dauntless author Elisa A. Bonnin.
The city of Leithon is under Imperial occupation and Arian Athensor has made it her playground.
In stealing magical artifacts for the Resistance, bounding over rooftops to evade Imperial soldiers, and establishing herself as the darling thief of the underground, Arian lives a life wrapped in danger and trained towards survival. She’ll steal anything for the right price, and if she runs fast enough, she can almost escape the fact that her mother is dead, her father is missing, and her brother, Liam, is tamping down a wealth of power in a city that has outlawed magic.
But then the mysterious Cavar comes to town with a job for the twins: to steal an artifact capable of ripping the souls from the living--the same artifact that used to hang around the neck of Arian’s mother. Suddenly, her past is no longer buried under adrenaline but intimately tied to the mission at hand, and Arian must face her guilt and pain head-on in order to pull off the heist.
As Arian and Cavar infiltrate the strongest fortress in Leithon and Liam joins the Resistance as their resident mage, the twins find themselves embroiled in court politics and family secrets, and the mission becomes more than just another artifact theft. The target is now the Imperial rule, and Arian will go to any length necessary to steal her city back.
Here are a few interesting quotes from the book!
"The city was writ into her bones, her soul. She knew what it had been before and was attached enough to the idea of before to be hurt by after."
"He wanted to jump off this ship and swim to shore. Anything to make sure that he was there in the streets of Leithon, watching the city come alive."
"Arian ran like her life depended on it, paying no heed to the way her lungs burned, the way Liam and Zephyr trailed behind as she pushed herself harder."
"Magic worked on a different plane from the rest of the physical senses, a different layer of reality"
"Where Catherina Athensor lay dead with her blood on an executioner’s blade, and Liam’s glittering future had gone up in flames with everything that was left of his city."

DAUNTLESS by Elisa A. Bonnin
Tumblr media
cover by @sgonzalesart
A teen girl must bring together two broken worlds in order to save her nation in this lush, Filipino-inspired young adult fantasy novel from debut author Elisa A. Bonnin. “Be dauntless, for the hopes of the People rest in you.”
Seri's world is defined by very clear rules: The beasts prowl the forest paths and hunt the People. The valiant explore the unknown world, kill the beasts, and gain strength from the armor they make from them. As an assistant to Eshai Unbroken, a young valor commander with a near-mythical reputation, Seri has seen first-hand the struggle to keep the beasts at bay and ensure the safety of the spreading trees where the People make their homes. That was how it always had been, and how it always would be. Until the day Seri encounters Tsana.
Tsana is, impossibly, a stranger from the unknown world who can communicate with the beasts - a fact that makes Seri begin to doubt everything she's ever been taught. As Seri and Tsana grow closer, their worlds begin to collide, with deadly consequences. Somehow, with the world on the brink of war, Seri will have to find a way to make peace.

Have you ever had a comfort book even though you haven't read it yet? Is that weird because I have, and it's the Monsters of Verity duology by @veschwab . It's been on my tbr since 2017, but I only read the first book last February 2022. I don't know why it brings me comfort, but I have kept these books in the back of my heart ever since then. ps. I'm still on my reading slump because of uni. I have a hell of a schedule this month and definitely next month too. Counting breakdowns instead of book reads lmao (ಥ﹏ಥ) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cc2UmXALzcf/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Here are two of the books that I'm planning to read for the month of April. I'm excited to read this because it's about Rue, a black girl who is the only half-human and half-god who grew up in Ghizon ー a hidden island of magic weilders. She breaks Ghizon's sacred Do Not Leave Law and returns to her neighborhood. She must embrace her true identity and weild the full magnitude of her ancestor's power to save her neighborhood before the gods burn it to the ground. As some of you may know, I got these books last January from @booksforwardpr 's giveaway last year. You can check out their pages for more information and giveaway. 🥰🥰 Q. How was your monthly wrap up? 😂 and what books do you plan to read for the month of April? ARC REVIEW: The Houseplant
Tumblr media
George, a fern, doesn’t appreciate being bought by Brenda at Garden Palace. And he certainly doesn’t appreciate being trapped in her house of humans. He yearns to be with the plants outside in the garden. With time, George learns to trust Brenda and think of her as his human. Then one day, tragedy strikes and George’s life will never be the same. What happens when a houseplant loses the thing he never knew he wanted? You'll never look at houseplants the same way again.
I'm grateful to Jeremy for giving me a chance to read his book for free in exchange for an honest review.
A plant's pov is something that I didn't know I needed in my life until today. It took me a week or two before I finally read and finished this one because I was in a bad reading slump, still am lol, and I got sick for 4 days straight and it wasn't my best shape to read a book, even short stories at that. It was a horrible week for me. So take care of yourself guys lmao.
I've read a few reviews on Jeremy's Instagram story before agreeing and it pique my interest because they were all positive ones and hello? a fern's pov? that's enough reason hahaha. This story is fascinating, funny, heartwarming, a sad one. "And no one tried to plantnap it, which George thought was good." I just realized that a plant can really be so dramatic and funny lmao. I really enjoyed this short story and how the kids bonded with George. Brenda my dearest, you're amazing. It is something that everybody needs to read if they ever feel like getting a plant, or currently taking care of a plant or someone who took care of a plant before. George's point of view will definitely make you realize something that is so important, not only for people but also for the plants and our environment. Plants have feelings too and they do want to feel cherished and loved. Not just the beautiful ones but every different kind of plant. It's sad and ugly how society molded us into something cruel, we are so obsessed with pretty things that we ignore the others who didn't fit our standard but we're also the ones who ruin their beauty just for the sake of our own selfish entertainment.
I know this review is getting sentimental lmao but this is also the reason why I don't like receiving flowers and/or picking them. Go cherish your plants. Water them if they're thirsty. Bathe them with sunlight. Talk to them and tell them about your day. Give them the love and attention they deserve.
The Houseplant is available to purchase on Amazon and is free on Kindle Unlimited! Link available in @jeremyraystories bio.

screaming, crying & throwing the book because why do @marieluthewriter have to do that?!??? 😭😭 Expect that it'll happen when you least expect it. This book is really good (I mean it's Marie Lu's work 🤷🏻) and a soldier/criminal trope is what I needed but I rated this 4 stars because I'm petty like that. I'm never gonna move on from these poor characters. I can't wait to read the second book though. I want to see more of June and Day and what their future holds. Q. Do you have any dystopian book recommendations? I'm trying to read more science fiction and fantasy this year. https://www.instagram.com/p/CaWvO0PLAcW/?utm_medium=tumblr

ARC Review: She's Up to No Good
Tumblr media
For two women generations apart, going home will change their lives in this funny, poignant, and life-affirming novel about family, secrets, and broken hearts by the author of For the Love of Friends. Four years into her marriage, Jenna is blindsided when her husband asks for a divorce. With time on her hands and her life in flux, she agrees to accompany her eccentric grandmother Evelyn on a road trip to the seaside Massachusetts town where much of their family history was shaped. When they hit the road, Evelyn spins the tale of the star-crossed teenage romance that captured her heart more than seventy years ago and changed the course of her life. She insists the return to her hometown isn’t about that at all—no matter how much she talks about Tony, her unforgettable and forbidden first love. Upon arrival, Jenna meets Tony’s attentive great-nephew Joe. The new friendship and fresh ocean air give her the confidence and distance she needs to begin putting the pain of a broken marriage behind her. As the secrets and truths of Evelyn’s past unfold, Jenna discovers a new side of her grandmother, and of herself, that she never knew existed—and learns that the possibilities for healing can come at the most unexpected times in a woman’s life.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
ꜱᴇᴇ ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ ʙᴇʟᴏᴡ:
She's Up to No Good is a great book and heartwarming, it also has a dual timeline which I'm a sucker for. It reminds me of the movie "The Longest Ride" where there's also past and present. I love those kinds of movies and books. I love how this book talks about an old love story, family, second chances, and present love. It was a quick read and I really enjoyed reading everything inside the book. Honestly speaking, I wasn't expecting to cry this much but I did anyway. Emily is funny, loving and I aspire to be as confident as she is lmao. Her stories are the ones I'm always looking forward to reading, she's an icon indeed. Jenna and Joe are such a sweetheart and both deserve each other. The ending is the only ending I would accept and nothing else. Although, I wish the epilogue has more scenes about them. Nonetheless, I absolutely love and enjoyed this book!

ARC Review: The Wedding Crasher
Tumblr media
The USA Today bestselling author of The Worst Best Man is back with another hilarious rom-com about two strangers who get trapped in a lie and have to fake date their way out of it... Just weeks away from ditching DC for greener pastures, Solange Pereira is roped into helping her wedding planner cousin on a random couple’s big day. It’s an easy gig... until she stumbles upon a situation that convinces her the pair isn’t meant to be. What’s a true-blue romantic to do? Crash the wedding, of course. And ensure the unsuspecting groom doesn’t make the biggest mistake of his life. Dean Chapman had his future all mapped out. He was about to check off “start a family” and on track to “make partner” when his modern day marriage of convenience went up in smoke. Then he learns he might not land an assignment that could be his ticket to a promotion unless he has a significant other and, in a moment of panic, Dean claims to be in love with the woman who crashed his wedding. Oops. Now Dean has a whole new item on his to-do list: beg Solange to be his pretend girlfriend. Solange feels a tiny bit bad about ruining Dean’s wedding, so she agrees to play along. Yet as they fake-date their way around town, what started as a performance for Dean’s colleagues turns into a connection that neither he nor Solange can deny. Their entire romance is a sham... there’s no way these polar opposites could fall in love for real, right?
ꜱᴇᴇ ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡ ʙᴇʟᴏᴡ:
Starting off, I would like to thank Harper Collins Publishers especially, Julie for giving me the opportunity to read this book! It took me by surprise when it came to my mail as I wasn't really expecting it to arrive. I'm beyond grateful that they entrusted me, a small reader, to have this ARC. I wouldn't forget this for eternity <3
The Wedding Crasher just made it into my favorite list! Mia Sosa, you have my whole heart. This book was a lot of fun to read and I didn't just fall in love with Dean and Solange but also everyone in this book except Peter, Molly, Henderson, and Olney. I couldn't stop myself annotating because this book has it all. Things weren't too fast and too slow, it's just perfect. Dean is a material boyfriend but he doesn't know it and he danced like Channing Tatum in front of Solange, who wouldn't sign up for that? HAHA. As Solange, she is the badass b*tch for me. She knows her worth and doesn't go less than what she deserves. They're really the cutest and perfect for each other.
No, really this book is a masterpiece and I want to be part of their family. The Tias and cousins are the best people except for Claudia LOL. I love how this book shows the different types of love and how it could affect one's life through the years. Also, it shows appreciation and respect for single moms out there. The Tias are all single moms but look at them go, I'm cheering for them as well. Everyone had it rough but they're all happy now and got each other's back. My heart is swelling with love and happiness for them. Brandon is such a sweetheart as well!! And Max and Lina, they are the kind of people you'd want in your life!! I'm just so proud of them all.

I've watched the movie adaptation of The Hating Game and all I could say is that it's not that bad like I thought in the trailer. I'm not gonna lie, I thought so lowly of the movie because of the trailer. It's actually exceeded my expectations. Some things are so-so and could've made better especially when Lucy was holding a cup of tea in the elevator with Josh and then when they get off, Danny threw a box to Lucy and she caught it, which obviously still holding the hot cup of tea, and also when she drank it, you can see there that it's empty and the string of the tea is gone. I also felt like Josh's actor is lacking in some ways but the spirit is there. Lucy's actress is perfect and meant to be for the role. Although, you'll realize how shallow and petty Lucy really is in the movie haha.
I WASN'T EXPECTING HIM TO GO NAKED NAKED THOUGH. It must be so awkward while filming that and to think she's staring right at it LOL.
Tumblr media
I absolutely love the scene where Lucy is having THAT dream. The way he grabs her thigh!!
Tumblr media
Also, this part where Lucy got sick and Josh took care of her. LOVE IT!
Tumblr media
Of course, this wouldn't be complete without Lucy defending Josh to his father! Lmao. ICONIC! They did well in those scenes honestly, it's my favorite part of the book so I'm satisfied that it got its justice.
I'm ending this review with my THG Playlist of the movie's ost. They slap so well. Mwa!
