Kaseh is one of the young boys from the village. While the men were off at war, he spent a lot of his time with Sokka, even more than his own mother. He followed him around an idolized him, he practically became a mini-Sokka. When Sokka left with Katara to help the Avatar he was devastated, but it only furthered the hero worship Kaseh felt towards Sokka. When the war was over and they came back to the Water Tribe, Kaseh was overjoyed, exited to hear about all the adventures Sokka had. He also needed Sokka more than ever since he found out his dad passed in the final weeks of the war. For the next two years, they spend a lot of time together when Sokka wasn’t traveling. Sokka sharing his stories of the world and love of creating with Kaseh. However, Kaseh’s mother suddenly falls ill and Kaseh is soon left an orphan. Sokka already caring deeply for Kaseh takes him under his wing and soon adopts him. During this time of adjustment Sokka stops traveling, instead sending letters to his friends to communicate with them, most of the letters now featuring stories of Kaseh and his fondness for the kid. Most of his friends do end up coming to visit, especially Aang because of Katara, all of them meeting Kaseh. Yet, for the first two years after adopting Kaseh Sokka doesn’t see Zuko, busy trying to obsolete the monarchy. However, his correspondence with Zuko is the richest and most consistent, sending and receiving a letter every week. Sokka and Zuko therefore growing closer and developing feeling they don’t understand even without seeing each other in person. With each letter he receives from Sokka, Zuko’s feelings for the man grows stronger, as well an unexpected fondness for Kaseh, a boy he’s never met. After two year Zuko get’s sent to the Southern Water tribe for work and finally gets to see Sokka again and meet Kaseh. 

This was supposed to be for @zukkaweek​ prompt zukka dads but it’s extremely late. It’s technically only sokka dad, but it’s pre-Zukka dads. There will probably be a part two (hopefully)

The only sound for a moment is the mechanical whir of wheels that haven't yet reached their stop. Choosing to overlook their condescension, Zuko covers Sokka's hands with his own before they can move them.

“A lot of things?” he echoes with a curiously raised eyebrow, and Sokka breathes a laugh so light, it tricks the breeze.

“Were you not aware of that?” they tease, faux concern riddling their features.

Ignoring the question, Zuko rests his chin on the board's tail and asks his own, “Like what? Pretty?” It barely makes it past his lips before they slip into a smile.

Though Sokka shakes their head and scoffs a laugh, the setting sun exposes the blush blooming beneath their freckles.

They retract their hands from Zuko’s hold to playfully mask his eyes with their palms, then answer, “Self-obsessed, for one.”

After knocking them away with his board, Zuko points out, “Hey, I’m not the one who watched me skate for three hours straight.”

aang works for the local radio station and sometimes he gets sokka to help him do those fake segments where someone calls and dumps their drama on the radio host. just for shits and giggles (and listeners)

it’s usually these wild tall tales about cheating or pregnancies or something but sokka forgot he was doing it one day until the last minute so he had to think quickly and what started out as “i have this roommate who drives me crazy” turns into “and that’s when i realized i’ve been in love with him for months” and after they record it aang is like “so…….that was very detailed….that fake roommate reminded me of zuko” and sokka won’t make eye contact with him and is like “yeah we definitely just recorded the realization of my true feelings in live time”

5. “Let me bandage you up.”

“It’s just a scratch,” Zuko tried to argue, but it’s too late. Sokka’s already opened up the first aid-kit he ran to grab from the bathroom. “Seriously, Sokka, I’m—”

“Shhhh!” Sokka interrupts, pressing a finger to Zuko’s lips.

To his credit, it’s a very effective method of shutting Zuko up, if only because his brain short-circuits the moment Sokka’s fingers make contact. He hopes somehow Sokka doesn’t notice the flush on his cheeks, or blames it on anything other than Zuko’s hopeless crush.

“Just... let ne do this for you, okay?” Sokka’s gaze drops from Zuko’s eyes to his skinned knee, and Zuko is grateful. He’s not sure he could handle looking Sokka in the eye as he whispers, “Let me bandage you up,” soft and gentle, like Zuko’s wellbeing is the only thing that’s ever mattered to him.

Sokka moves his hands to rummage through the first aid kit for Neosporin and band-aids. Zuko just watches, unable to get his voice to work, but when Sokka looks back up at him, he just smiles in understanding.

(They never have really needed words to communicate, have they?)

Zuko swallows thickly, still just staring as Sokka focuses back on the task at hand.

He cleans the injury - which, okay, is maybe a little more than a scratch, but still not that bad - puts on the ointment, and then carefully presses the band-aid on. Every brush of Sokka’s fingertips against Zuko’s skin sends electricity through his veins, and he hardly dares to breathe until Sokka’s hands are gone.

Almost instantly, though, Sokka is leaning down until he’s brushing a kiss against the band-aid.

“There.” He pulls back and looks up at Zuko, who is desperately hoping his face isn’t as red as it feels.

“Thank you,” Zuko finally manages.

Sokka smiles. “Always. And thank you for letting me take care of you.”

The words aren’t there - not really - but Zuko’s heard them echoing through the entire conversation. He may never know in what way Sokka means it, but what Zuko does know, despite everything in him saying he doesn’t deserve it, is that he is loved.

9. Who wakes the other up in the middle of the night to tell them a cool dream they had? Who has the most nightmares, and who sings them back to sleep after?

absolutely sokka is the one to wake zuko up to tell him about a cool dream--even better, sokka probably comes up with ideas for his inventions in his sleep. like every other night he's shaking zuko awake, like, "babe, you'll never guess the idea i just had!!!" and like half the time, when he remembers in the morning, sokka's like... wtf was i thinking. but honestly, a lot of the ideas he dreams up end up being good!

i think both of them would have their fair share of nightmares. tbh i can't picture either of them singing to the other, but i think zuko would do something like offer to make sokka tea because that's how uncle used to always help him, and i feel like acts of service are something that make sense to zuko. sokka, i think, would grow to be an amazing storyteller, and he'd hold zuko in his arms and tell him stories--maybe some he made up, maybe some of his favorites from his childhood--until he fell back asleep :')

17. Who is more protective?

again, i think they both share this, but in different ways. sokka, having for a while been the sole defender of his entire village, and then the eldest in their group--responsible for katara's, aang's, and toph's safety--, would have a really hard time letting go of that protector role, even several years post-war. he'd constantly be worrying about assassination attempts, even before they started dating, and he'd definitely want to have a hand in zuko's security, whatever that ended up being.

zuko, on the other hand, would be fiercely protective of sokka's intellect. he adores sokka's mind, is fascinated by his creativity and ingenuity, and simply cannot bear for others not to appreciate it. this would especially be true in meetings with older fire nation ministers who still aren't capable of respecting people from other nations. if they even hinted at being condescending towards sokka, zuko would immediately and sternly cut them off. and, tbh, none of those racist ass ministers have jobs for very long under zuko's rule.

heheheh ummm i almost chose violence with this one bUT i decided to be nice !

so, i'm going with "to have a home" from a very potter sequel !

before i show lyrics, i just want to talk about why i chose this song ! toph is one of the toughest people around, but she is also one of the most emotional people around. that's something the gaang helps her accept and understand--that she's allowed to express her negative emotions without violence because that's all she knows. her parents piss her off? she'll just go to the earth rumble and beat up some cocky men !

we've seen her cry multiple times on screen, we saw her be afraid when she was falling off the airship, we saw her get vulnerable with sokka and even a little with katara. because her parents expected her to play helpless blind rich girl with the ideology that girls are not fighters. i mean, we saw her parents literally try to kidnap her because they didn't like that she was, oh idk, saving the world ! she was never truly loved, she was the trophy child. the "look our daughter is blind! she's so brave and fragile and delicate! look at our blind child! our lives are so hard because our child is blind!" as in they are v ableist. so she was reduced to being ogled at and seen as the token disabled rich child.

so anyways. she joins the gaang and bam she's around people who actually acknowledge the fact that she's talented and powerful and could probably kill or seriously maim them all if she really felt like it but most of all, she is respected and seen as an equal.

because as much as toph acts like it doesn't matter, it matters so much to her. the evolution we saw in the show of her feeling is so incredible. toph cried multiple times which isn't expected from the tough girl. this is a group of people who wants her as a friend not because she's a beifong and not because she would add diversity and not because they think they can help herm, but because they need her and they want her and they love her and they care about her in a way she never had before.

they don't lock her up at night because it's "too dangerous" and they don't ever try to make her be something she isn't.

not to mention the line "now it's finally here and i don't know what to do" like... that's what happened! shortly after her joined the gaang, she ran away, and sure, you could say that is more centered around what was happening in the episode, but i also wager to think that it was because she didn't know how to respond to katara's kinda similar energy and immense care, to how when she wanted to be alone they let her, how everyone treated sokka like he was worth something even though he couldn't bend (and maybe she self-projected a bit onto that--sokka couldn't bend, therefore he was defenseless. toph was taught that she couldn't see, therefore she needed protection and was defenseless. it may not have seemed like it to sokka at the time, but it might have been toph's own way of protecting sokka or maybe she was still worried they would do that to her, so she did it to sokka first in defense)

how sokka and katara let aang be a kid and run around and laugh and be silly and how this kid had the weight of the world on his shoulders and half the world wanted him dead while the other half worshipped him yet he still took the time to be kind and relax and to live

and toph never had that before.

she never had that until she found a home in them

look... i uhh i feel strongly about this. i love toph beifong probably too much. this uhhh kind of got out of hand and turned into a toph analysis / i love toph post and um oops lol
