It began with him running.  Swimming through the static noise of the downpour, trying to run from – or was it to? – someone, lungs aching, needing to stop. His head would throb and he would raise his hand to the strange itch on his brow, only to draw it away covered in blood, though he couldn't remember why. A vice grip on his shirt and he was clawing, kicking, wresting free, stumbling backwards. She was yelling, telling him to get back, to get behind her, for someone to help– A flash of silver through the sheets of rain and someone's cry of pain– His vision blurred and the world tilted– A gunshot–

Sanji's used to trading one prison for another, but he didn't expect to find hope in any of them.

“You think it’s that easy?”  Zoro scoffs. “Like it’s hard?” Then he puts a hand over Sanji’s eyes, and it flips a switch in Sanji’s head: fight. He tries to claw Zoro’s hand away. When that doesn’t work, he starts to kick.  “Ow.” But Zoro’s voice sounds hollow, like he doesn’t really mean it. Sanji thrashes harder. Zoro’s hand doesn’t budge, but his tone warms. “Yeah, whatever—let it out a bit. You’re all pent up.”

Unlike Sanji’s bedroom, Zoro’s doesn’t have a street-facing window. What little light filters in comes up from the parking lot below in soft, muted shades of gray. In the dark, Sanji can just faintly make out the warm tone of Zoro’s bare chest and arms as he scoops something off his nightstand. He tosses it to Sanji. It makes a muted, hollow sound when it hits his palm. A box of tissues.  “Just in case, right?” Sanji can hear Zoro’s smirk. What he wouldn’t give to wipe it off his stupid face.
