Zoro and Sanji lost and bickering on an island somewhere, and by some accident (they’ll both blame the other) Zoro cuts Sanji’s shirt horizontally, leaving him in a makeshift mullet crop top.
Preferring to commit to it, Sanji rips off the remaining back to even out his now homemade crop top and starts thinking of ways to get back at Zoro, not realising that he already is because for the rest of the treck back to the ship Zoro has to deal with his slutty little waist being on display (Sanji wears shorts, yes, and right shirts that can accentuate his slim waist, also yes, but never like this. Never a fully exposed lower torso!!)

The sunny stayed docked at the island, Luffy wanted to explore the place and factory while Franky had to fix up the shark sub that your ex washed up into the tree's. Usopp and Luffy were fascinated by the robots but Chopper tried to stay away from them feeling sad about them being people. You managed to sleep for a whole day, It got Sanji a bit worried when you would only wake up for a few minutes to eat and then go right back to sleep but Chopper told him it was normal, your body needed rest and Zoro was more than happy to stay with you, sleeping at your side or cleaning his swords. When you did wake up you felt awful but managed to get a shower and have your bandages changed, you were also surprised that you haven't left the island yet but also a little happy since you really wanted to go out at some point and look for your mother. You just wanted to see if she was ok, On the third day you felt a lot better, rest and food did you well but you were getting sick of being in your room all the time, Sanji refused to let you join them for food and always brought it to you. You love and appreciate your cook but you were worried about him and his arm, he said it was fine and healing well and when Chopper said the same you felt a lot better.
Walking out of your room with fresh cloths and a smile you look down at Chopper and pat his head "Thanks again Chopper, i don't know what id do without you" The doctor smiles and wiggles a little at your words "It's no problem" He waves skipping off leaving you to look out at your old home. Chopper kept his promise like he always does, your wounds were healing nicely and the bruises on your body were almost gone, you could do normal stuff again but you had your mind on one thing. Heading down onto the grassy deck you spot Zoro asleep against wall, walking over you bend down and run your hand over his check, he cracks his eye open with a groan only to smile when he see's its you "So i'm guessing Chopper cleared you" His groggy voice is like music to your ears, you nod as he stretches and gets up off the floor, before you can say anything he pulls you into him and places his lips on yours, you lean in running your hands up his chest and to his shoulders. "I'm so proud of you" Zoro whispers against your lips making you smile wider "Thank you, for putting up with me" you laugh as he rolls his eye and pulls you in for another kiss. "There's nothing to put up with. Your perfect" Zoro pulls away running his hands up your sides.
Sanji walks out of the kitchen, bags in hand and a shopping list, he doesn't know if there's anything here he can buy but its worth a try. As he steps down the stairs the cook lights up a cigarette taking a puff as he looks up to see you and Zoro, a smile forms on the mans face as he walks over to the two of you "Your up" He calls out seeing you turn to face him. You nod and reach your hand out which he gladly takes before taking his cigarette out and kissing you lightly on the lips, you lean in squeezing his hand a little. "You heading out?" Zoro asks as you and Sanji pull away "Yea, you said there used to be a market here, i'm hoping it got moved or something" Sanji shrugs looking out into the town "I can show you around" you speak only for the two to look at you with wide eyes "Your not going back there" Zoro pulls you in closer only for you to sigh "I want to, i-i kinda wanna look for my mum too plus i'm not scared anymore." you smile lightly placing your forehead against Zoro's "I'll have you two with me, right?" you ask hoping he will come. The swordsman sighs and closes his eye before nodding letting you go, so he can take your hand.
You turn to Sanji who looks at you worried so you lean over and kiss his cheek "I'll be fine, trust me" he smiles a little at your words before starting to walk putting his cigarette back in his mouth "Ok fine, but if your feeling sore or tired or mentally not well you tell us" You laugh a little as he holds you hand walking off the ship "of course, my master chef" you squeeze his hand seeing a slight blush on his face. The streets where quiet, old rundown houses and shacks laid out as you walked down the dirt and cobbled floor, people still slept on the streets and hung their washing out to dry, most of them looked skinny and you felt really sad for them. "So where did you use to live?" Zoro asks looking at the houses mainly the ones that didn't have a door just a sheet covering the door way. "To the right and then keep going down until we hit a fork in the road then left" you say mainly to Sanji since Zoro is terrible with directions. You three make your way down the street, the houses looking the same but there were street sighs that were easy to follow.
The house you used to live in soon appeared, it looked just like the others although a window was broken, some of the porch steps were missing and there was a red sheet covering the door way. A clothing line hung outside on two sticks, as you got closer you could make out a woman putting cloths up, but she was young only a little older than you. Stopping just outside the broken gate your heart dropped at the sight of your old home, it looked much worse than when you lived there, the walls were cracked but never this bad, pieces were falling of and the roof was now made of straw. "Can i help you?" the lady asks looking away from her basket of wet clothes and wiping her hands on her skirt. "Sorry i'm looking for a miss L/N, she used to live here" you look over the young woman as she shakes her head "Sorry Hun, it was vacant for a while before i started renting it 2 years ago, The name does sound kind of familiar though... maybe try the factory, most people work there now" She gives you a sad smile which you return, Zoro wraps his arm around your waist as Sanji squeezes your hand "Thank you miss" Sanji smiles at the lady as you three walk away.
You walked in silence as you made your way to the factory, so much was going through your head but you managed to get your thoughts under control looking up at Zoro who pulls you a little closer. "You ok?" He asks placing a kiss on your temple. "Yea, i think its just the unknown that scares me" you sigh before looking over at Sanji who gives you a loving smile and finishing his cigarette throwing it away. The factory was big but there was no smoke coming out of it, people were walking around putting things in large crates and taking apart machines. A woman steps out of the factory carrying a basket full of metal parts, relief rushes through your body "Mom" you call out, the woman turning in shock at your voice and dropping her basket. You smile as she runs at you tears in her eyes and crashes into you with a hug, Sanji and Zoro manage to help you keep your balance while your mother cry's into your shoulder apologizing over and over again. "I'm so sorry my girl, i just wanted you to have a better life, i wasn't thinking right, i know you can never forgive me but i love you" You hold her in your arms, you used to hate her but you knew why she did it, still it didn't make up for everything that happened. A part of you wanted to forgive her but the other part reminded you of how she kept sending you back to him.
You sigh and stroke her hair "I just wanted to make sure your ok" you whisper pulling her away as she ties to dry her face "I'm f-fine" she sniffles before looking up at you again then to Zoro and Sanji, taking them in before looking back at you "So... He was right, you did find someone else" she smiles a little only for Zoro to glare at her and wrap his arm around your shoulder "You talked to him?" The swordsman growls a little making your mother back up a bit but you keep a hold of her arms. "Zoro" Sanji whispers placing a hand on Zoro's arm over your shoulder "Urm yea." you let go of her arms your heart dropping a little "You work for him too?" you ask the small smile gone from your face "Yes, almost everyone works for him here but it keeps us fed, he owns the island or did. He wanted me to help find you and- i know it's no excuse, but he was a very powerful man" Zoro holds you a little tighter getting angry at the woman as Sanji places a hand on your back "You don't think i know that?" Your eyes are on the floor unable to believe that your mother would help him. "You knew what he would do to me if he found me and yet you helped him?" Your eyes shift up to look at her anger boiling through your veins "I-i'm sorry, you know what he's like its just the kind of man he i-" you cut her off with an unexpected slap to the face.
You pant as your hand stings and shakes, Your mother holds her now red cheek with a shocked look. "Y/N" Sanji whispers taking the hand you used to slap your mother trying to calm you down but Zoro didn't step in, he knew you needed this. "How could you still defend him? After everything he's done, not just to me but everyone here" you yell at her, Zoro now putting his arms around your torso to stop you form lunging at your mother. "I'm sorry honey, he was going to hurt me" Your mother try's to defend herself but you've had enough "You? Look at you, not even a scratch, your not skinny like the rest of these people. Do you see what he's done, look at me" you yell your hand going to your bandaged neck. "You don't know what its like to have his hands around your throat or bash your head into the floor or pull your hair as he drags you through the house or even stab you in the back for accidentally turning a shirt pink. You don't know what its like to be isolated form everyone and everything, told when to eat, when to sleep or even if you can, told what to wear or what to say... you've never had to turn to the only person who supposed to love you more than anything only for them to tell you to put up with it" Your eyes are full of tears and your voice starts braking as you yell.
Sanji tried to tell you to stop but his words fell on deaf ears while Zoro keeps holding you back while you scream at your mother pushing against him. Your mother tried to talk only to be cut off by your yelling, the people around look between you and your mother some shocked and others angry understanding what you've been through. "I needed you but you never came so i did it... i made it out, i got away, i did it no thanks to you only for you my own mother to lead him back to me... do you have any idea what he did to me? What he was going to do to my friends, my family?" you asks as she steps back shaking her head trying not to look at you "Look at me" you yell out before Sanji steps in front of you and pulls you into him. You can only hear your heart pounding in your ears but you can feel his heart beat and vibration of him talking. You reach around his back and cling onto his jacket as you try and calm down. Zoro sighs as you stop fighting him loosening his grip on you and checking to see if he hurt you in any way, luckily you were fine, but he still kept hold of you.
Sanji strokes your hair lightly and watches as you start to calm down, your tears drying up and breath going back to normal "There we go" He whispers seeing you look up at him. "I-I" You mother tried to speak only for both boys to turn and give her a deadly glare. "Don't" they both growl as Sanji starts walking with you keeping your mother out of your sight while Zoro steps in front of your mother, he gives her a glare making her shake a little before walking off and puts an arm around your waist and walking you back to the ship "I'm sorry" you whisper not fully understanding what just happened, once you stared talking you couldn't stop. "It's ok love" Sanji smiles lightly at you still keeping you close to his chest. "You really told her off babe, nice job" Zoro rubs your head making you laugh a little. "We're proud of you" Sanji leans down and kisses the top of your head, you look up at him with a small smile before leaning up to kiss him while taking Zoro's hand.
As the Sunny left the island Luffy got brook to play some music as him, Usopp and Chopper danced. Franky joined in a little later and dragged Robin with him, dancing with her as the other three jumped around with drinks and food. Nami watched form her seat as she sat next to you laughing about how silly Usopp and Luffy looked, You couldn't help but laugh too with your head on the navigators shoulder. Zoro sat out-of-the-way drinking like normal as Sanji comes out of the kitchen with drinks, he makes his way round to you and Nami handing the orange haired girl her drink with a smile and then holding his free hand out to you "Come sit with us please" You nod and take his hand saying bye to Nami as you walk with Sanji over to Zoro. The swordsman looks up and pats the grass next to him before holding his free hand out to help you sit down before wrapping his arm around you. Sanji hand you your drink before sitting in the swordsman's lap putting his legs over yours which you gladly hold onto. The three of you enjoy each others company while watching your crew dance around as the sun sets and the moon rises.
Sanji lifts his head up off Zoro's shoulder to grab a cigarette only for the swordsman to put his drink down and grab the cooks hand "I have a better idea" Zoro gives the cook a smug smile before pulling him closer and crashing his lips onto Sanji's. You smile looking up at them seeing Sanji relax into the kiss and place his arms around Zoro's neck. Zoro squeezes the cook tighter and pushes his tongue into his mouth making Sanji moan and grip onto the back of his kimono, the swordsman groans back before pulling away "Better than a cigarette?" He asks earning a nod from the now breathless cook. You giggle at Sanji's flustered face only for the arm around your waist to pull you closer into Zoro's side "I don't know what your laughing at, your next baby" Zoro crashes his lips onto your but you gladly push back wrapping your arms around his neck moving them up to the back of his head to run your finger through his hair. You open you mouth before he can even shove his tongue in and groans into your mouth, liking that your taking the initiative. You moan a little as your tongue and mouth moves with his, sitting up a bit to push into him making him groan again almost melting at your touch.
When you pull away your both panting but smiling at the rough make out "Your so cute when you blush" You tease running a hand over his cheek, he glares at you and leans in "I'm not blushing, you are" he hovers over your lips only for you to bit gently on his bottom lip and pull a little making his cheeks go bright red, you let go letting his lip snap back into place "Really?" you ask as Zoro sits up and turns away to hid his blush. Sanji laughs patting Zoro's chest "They got you there, Ro" The cook smiles before leaning over to you as you place your hand on his cheek and slide it to the back of his head "You want some too?" you ask making the cook nod and place his lips on yours, you both place small kisses on each others lips before you make him stay against your lips licking his bottom lip. Sanji can't help but grab your hips pulling you up so your leaning over him, his head tiled back as he opens his mouth letting you take the lead, you place your hands on his checks then down to his neck while feeling his mouth with your tongue, he doesn't fight you and it feels great. You pull away for air only to go back for more making the cook moan as Zoro's hand runs up and down your back. Your so lucky to these two in your life and your crew are like family to you, how did you get so lucky?

Hii!✨Congrats on the followers!! 😊 Can i ask Green Tea for Mihawk? Thx so much!! 💕✨
Hi Liru! Thank you! ❤ You sure picked yourself a good Halloween treat. The prompt will be marked in bold and there are no warnings needed! Enjoy!
Happy Halloween! ❤
Tumblr media
You stepped out of the boat and looked around. The island was dark and all the trees were dead. There was no trace of life aside from you and the man next to you. Normally, you wouldn’t even have thought about setting foot on this foreboding island. But it was the home of the man you loved. And he had finally invited you to come over.
The two of you had been together for quite some time already. Mihawk would often come to visit you, but he always said his island was ‘no place for anyone but a pirate’. Because of that, he never let you come there. You also knew that for the last few years, Mihawk had two visitors living with him. Two other pirates, uninvited guests who he had not chased out for some reason. So of course, you said that you could always use the same strategy. Arrive uninvited and stay there. Mihawk, knowing you were capable of actually doing that, or at least trying, gave in. He didn’t want you wandering the island on your own, the humandrills were too dangerous.
That’s how Mihawk had picked you up in his little coffin-shaped boat, and how you had now arrived on Kuraigana Island. As you looked around, Mihawk stepped out of his boat too and tied it to the little pier. He then wrapped an arm around your waist as he started walking.
“Stay close, the humandrills know better than to attack me, but they won’t think twice about attacking you if you stray.”
You nodded and leaned into him a bit, taking full advantage of the situation. Mihawk noticed and chuckled as he continued walking. The scenery did not get any better. All plants were still dead, and once you got a little while from the shore, you could spot huge monkey-like creatures with weapons, hiding between the trees. The glare in their eyes told that they would strike at the first point of weakness. It unnerved you a little, and you were glad to have Mihawk by your side.
All worry about the humandrills disappeared the moment you saw the castle though. It was no fairy tale castle, but it was still an impressive piece of architecture, and very beautiful despite the somewhat eery feel it had to it. Mihawk chuckled at your awestruck expression and opened the door, letting you enter the building.
The inside of the castle reminded you even more of a classic vampire novel than the outside. Once you entered the castle, the first room you entered seemed to be fairly normal, except that it was rather empty. Once you passed through the double doors at the end of the room though, the feeling of being in a novel really hit you. It was a gigantic room, pretty much empty. High pillars supported the ceiling, and the ceiling itself used to have a painting on it. Most of the paint had already flaked off, and the parts that were still intact were covered in cobwebs. Upon closer inspection, you noticed that there were gargoyles close to the ceiling as well. To your left was a gigantic staircase leading up to the next floor, there was a hallway to the right, and another set of double doors right in front of you.
Mihawk proceeded to give you a rundown of the castle. There were hidden corridors and passageways everywhere. He even mentioned Zoro found a few of those on accident, and Perona helped explore the rooms behind locked doors.
The prettiest place was the chapel, which Mihawk had turned into a library. The room was well-lit with gigantic windows, and the stained glass windows almost gave an otherworldly feel to it. Mihawk described the way it looked when he found it, with rotten and broken benches and an altar full of battle marks, and you were surprised he managed to turn it around this much. There was one thing that bothered you about this place though.
“Mihawk, it’s freezing in here.” “It always is for some reason. It’s very refreshing in the summer. I think Perona mentioned something about ghosts living here. I did have to clean up some dead bodies from the chapel when I came to live here.” Mihawk said casually as he shrugged off his coat and put it around your shoulders. Shivers ran up your spine as you heard the story. Mihawk chuckled when he saw your fear. “Worry not, Y/N. There are no such things as ghosts. And if there are, I have never seen them, nor have they bothered me.”
His words did not comfort you, and you pulled his coat tighter around yourself, as if it was a magical relic that would protect you from any spirits. It didn’t help that the sun was already setting, casting an eerie red glow into the former chapel. Looking around, you felt like there was someone else in the room, someone apart from you and Mihawk. You heard Mihawk say something about getting changed before dinner as he pulled you away from the room. After staring at the room for a little while longer, you tore your eyes away from it, focussing on your boyfriend instead.
Dinner was nice, and after that the two of you had made yourself comfortable in front of the fireplace. It was nice to finally be there with him, but the uneasy feeling you got in the chapel never left. Despite the room being perfectly warm, you still caught yourself looking though the room from time to time, half expecting to find a spirit standing in a corner of the room, or to see an orb of light floating by. All the things you had heard from the stories. You never told Mihawk, but he caught you looking around the room every now and then. He knew very well he had scared you a little with his story but to be honest, your reactions amused him, and he was even enjoying teasing you a little.
When you asked him if he had heard that sound too, the sound of a humandrill outside the castle, he answered he hadn’t heard it. When a the flames made a sudden move in the wind, causing your head to read around at the change of lighting, he casually ask if something was wrong, only to hear you pretend to not have seen anything. Probably the most amusing thing was that you refused to take off his coat, even if it was a little big on you. He didn’t mind though, he had already put on his dress shirt and wasn’t planning on wearing his coat until he left the castle.
Time flew by, and soon it was time to go to bed. Mihawk and you walked up the stairs to the bedrooms, where Mihawk asked you a question he already knew the answer to.
“Would you like to have your own room, Y/N?”
Finally, you stopped holding back your thoughts.
“Are you mad? There’s freaking ghosts out here! They’ve been looking at me all night, I can feel it! I’m sleeping with you and that’s that!”
Mihawk nodded and opened the door to his bedroom, gesturing for you to go inside with a slight smile that he couldn’t hide anymore. He knew you’d be curled up in his arms all night, and to be honest, he wasn’t complaining.

Picture Perfect
Tumblr media
Requested by: @aspergerhero
Word Count: 1,285 words
Triggers: None!
Synopsis: You’re the newest member of the Straw Hats, and it’s taken a little while for the rest of the crew to warm up to you. All except her... Nico Robin. But when the pursuit of your talent happens to cross paths with her own interests, that all changes... Now later down the line, you want to use your camera to spend a little quality time with Robin. If only the rest of the crew would stay out of the way...
Author’s Note: This is my first ever large fic (something over a thousand words) and I’m so happy with how it came out! It took a while to complete but I hope y’all like it!
The devil child: Nico Robin. One would think from that epitaph that she would be a monster; someone with large horns or something that would constitute “devil child.” But nope, she is the last of her kind, a caring, kindhearted and often morbid person. She is a tall, thin and intelligent being, traits fit for an archeologist.
You knew the first day you had seen her that something special was going to happen between the two of you. Your new captain, Luffy, had admired your resolve and had pretty much demanded (in his own special way) that you join the crew. You had always had a dream of taking pictures of all the islands you could, to document the world just in case something happened. The crew welcomed you with open arms of course, but it seemed like the mysterious woman with long black hair and sunglasses was avoiding you at first.
It was no wonder she was avoiding you. It was when you had learned her past that it all had made sense. After speaking with the others over time, you had learned the truth; the horrible truth. She was the last of her people; the island of Ohara had been destroyed, her friends and family gone, and she had been hunted down just for the fact that she was the lone survivor. And then the water 7 incident; where she sacrificed her life so the rest of the straw hats could escape just because she didn’t feel she was worthy of their friendship. You could remember the first time she had learned of your skill. You had gotten off of the ship to explore an island. You thought back about that day…
The trees were lush and green as you traversed a windy path that led to a hill, looking for that one landmark that would help you remember the island forever. Walking along the stone pathway, you noticed that the ground was littered with these tiny pieces of metal that you were unaware of the origin or purpose of. Intrigued, you kept up your pace as you walked, seeing more and more chunks of this metal. You decide to pocket one of the smaller pieces in hopes of maybe getting an idea of what it was from, possibly through Franky or Usopp. Just in case, you decided to document your journey up the hill. Maybe there would be something that you missed upon first glance.
As you kept walking, you noticed less and less of the metal objects, and more tall grass and trees. Maybe the metal had been from some kind of outer fortification and you were now coming to an inner garden or the like. That hypothesis was soon tested as you came upon rising stone structures. Incomplete walls and archways were scattered in a manner you couldn’t make any sense of. Architecture was more of Robin’s area of expertise. Thinking of her, you brought your camera up to the hill to start finding good framing for a few snapshots. A place like this needed to be documented, and you weren’t going to wait for someone else to come do it. After wandering around and getting a few angles of the major structural remnants, you started to head back to the Sunny. On the way back you bumped into her by accident.
“Oh! Robin I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to bump into you, I must not have been looking where I was going.” You apologized profusely as she turned around and gave you a wide smile. “It’s okay, I’m just glad it wasn’t a group of bandits looking for hostages.” You were slightly confused by her comment but shook it off. “Hey Robin, I heard that you’re into archeology…could you possibly tell me what these buildings are?” With a wide eyed look of glee, she put her hands around your camera and with a nod you let her take it. “From what it looks like, it seems like it’s an open garden…some of the sides of the walls have poneglyph writing on them…it must be very very old, predating my family.”
Fast forward to now, where the two of you have become much closer than you ever thought you would, and certainly much happier. You’ve expressed many times how photogenic you think she is, and how much you’d like to get the chance to have her pose for a shoot. She never hesitates to tease you on what you might do with those photos, or just what sort of photoshoot it will really be, but you know she’s also flattered that you like her appearance to that degree. Finally you both have some free time and you set up your camera and a few outfits for her to wear. It was a warm day so most of the outfits she’s wearing corresponds to the weather.
“Hey Robin, why don’t you lean up against the mast and we can get a couple shots of you looking badass, okay?” “Yeah, that sounds good!” She saunters over to the mast and did a variety of poses; a squat, a lean, one with her arms crossed and even one with her Devil fruit, her arms dotted across the top of the mast, aiming down. “You want to try another outfit and then we can we can do some of you over the side, maybe looking wistful?”
Nodding, she heads over to her room to get changed into a different outfit; she always has a good sense of fashion and that’s something you’ve admired about her. Unbeknownst to you, you and your subject have attracted quite the bit of attention. Sanji has been discreetly watching the two of you, and Chopper and Luffy have been a bit confused, albeit intrigued to what you were doing. It looked like Luffy had a plan to cause some mischief; you don’t know what kind but you were not going to let him ruin your day.
Robin returns swiftly, having changed into a white dress with purple polka dots and matching lace at the bottom. She really does look lovely in that, you think to yourself. “Alright, you ready to take some more pictures?” She gives an enthusiastic nod and heads over to the side of the boat, resting her hands on the rails and looking off in the distance.
As soon as you try to take the picture, Luffy and Chopper giggle loudly, attacking Robin with a hug. Sanji emerges from where he was watching and takes the chance to put his head in her chest. Even though this shot was totally not what you were expecting, you could live with it. It makes good memories of you and your crew. With a loud shout, you alert the rest of the crew to what you are doing; Franky and Usopp come tumbling out of their workshops like something is wrong. Nami vaults over the railing, running over to the picture as Zoro complains about all the noise. And finally, Brook comes out from inside the galley to see what all the fuss is about.
“Hey all” you start. “I was doing a photo shoot with Robin when Luffy and Chopper photobombed me and I have a great idea! Why don’t we do a few group pictures to create some good memories?” For the most part, the group agreed; minus Zoro who was still grumpy from being woken up. Upon agreement, you begin to put everyone in a place before everything falls apart, and you decide to just let them pose the way they want. The smile on Robin’s face as she’s surrounded by her dear friends is an image you want to treasure forever. Fortunately, you can.

Tumblr media
The end of the year was fast approaching with only days left it felt strange to you. The fact that your first semester of college was finally over. The past few months had been wild if you could pick a word to describe it. You never imagined you would have so many friends or just good memories in general. You had gotten lucky when being paired with Perona.
She was rather strange but you really would not have her any other way. It was because of her that you met Zoro which from there meant you would meet everyone else.  The collection of them were all vastly different and it made you feel included somehow into their strange little family. Though it was your friendship with Ace that you didn’t expect.
He was loud, angry, and shameless among other things you could rattle off. For some reason he had quickly taken a liking to you and it was all over after that. He had this way of coaxing you to come out of your shell and express yourself in ways you had never done before. He stunned everyone when he declared you were now his which didn’t settle well with any of the girls plus Sanji. Perhaps it was the five year age gap that threw most people off but it didn’t bother you that in the way most presumed it did.
The reason he had plagued your mind a lot recently was because his birthday was two days away. While you were excited about getting your new friend gifts and a supposed party to happen. You found out that their wouldn’t be a celebration, nothing at all. Ace hated his birthday which made you quite disappointed.
You didn’t push the subject when Sabo gave you the bad news. He had smiled sadly at you as he patted your head and moved on with his day. If no one wanted to speak of why then you wouldn’t push it. Ace would tell you if you asked you know he would but you didn’t want to pry it seemed to be a rather sore subject for everyone.
So you went about your week as you usually would which was more so spent at the three brothers apartment. You were currently splayed out on the couch with Luffy, Chopper, and Vivi laying on top of one another. It was a comfortable squeeze with Chopper’s head tucked into your lap and Vivi’s thigh bumping against your own as Luffy splayed out over her entire lap as she played with his hair. The only light coming from the flashing tv and that of the Christmas tree still up in the corner of the room.
It was a nice feeling to be surrounded by friends in a place you considered homey.  The sudden buzzing of your phone dragged you out of your thoughts. Pulling the device from your sweatpants pocket you saw the familiar name lighting up the Home Screen.
Firefly
As he had so happily put into your contacts months ago. You smiled as you slide your finger across the text opening the phone.
“Work is so boring today, tell me something interesting.”
You roll your eyes at his response Ace worked a rather fascinating job in your opinion at least. Though he says his previous job had been cooler before the accident. You texted him back before closing the phone.
“You should really pay attention to your job but if you really want something good. Luffy choked on a piece of food today and Vivi had to give him the hemilich maneuver. It was a real sight I have all on video.”
You sent the text and closed your phone again only for it to vibrate. The message highlighted with a laughing emoji making you smile as you place the phone on your lap. Closing your eyes as you listen to the background noise of the tv.
You were awoken by the sensation of someone putting a blanket over you blinking your eyes open sleepily. The blurry image above you stopped before continuing and backing away as you drifted back off to sleep cuddling close down into the soft material. The sounds of chatting is what finally woke you up this time around.
They were soft almost trying not to wake up or anyone else who was still asleep. The room was dark when your eyes opened, the only light coming from that of the kitchen and even that was dimmed. You could barely make out the voices but there was definitely more than one. Pulling your arm upward you realize that it had actually been covered by a blanket. Your brows furrowed at how it got there, as your hand finally landed on your phone. The screen lit up showing the time it was half past 9 p.m. making you groan.
You had missed dinner, the sudden grumbling of your stomach reminding you of it’s emptiness. “Thanks, stomach.” You mumbled as you looked around you to still see everyone was still asleep. Chopper had moved over so he wasn’t on top of you, but Vivi and Luffy were now cuddling up one another in their sleep. The sight made you smile as Luffy’s soft snores were let out against Vivi’s neck. The voices broke through your train of thought again as a sharp “No” was admitted.
Curious but not wanting to be nosy you carefully untangled yourself from the pile. You walked towards the kitchen quietly as the voices became more distinct. The soft tremor of Ace’s voice was heard as he hissed at the slightly higher one of Sabo. Were they fighting? You thought which would be odd because they almost never fought unless it was over something serious. Over the few months you had known them you had only seen it twice. So whatever they were disagreeing on must be rather important or personal perhaps.
“You such an idiot you know that right? Sabo said.
Peeking around the corner you could barely make out their appearances through the doorway which was blocked by the door being half way closed.
“It’s nothin’ I’m an dult I can do wha- I wannnt.” Ace said his words sounding muffled.
You frowned as Sabo sighed making you wonder if Ace was actually drunk and Sabo was trying to hide it.
A sound of shuffling could be heard as someone started walking. “Ace, come on you’ve had enough of tha-.” Sabo words were cut off as the shattering of glass echoed through the otherwise quiet house. The noise alone startled you momentarily before you decided to make your presence known.
You pushed the door open into the kitchen and the sight that greeted you was rather amusing. Sabo was hitting Ace upside the head while the freckled man pouted. He was gazing down at the red liquid splashed across the title flooring.
Sabo looked up at you and sighed. “(Name) could you hand me the mop and broom it’s in the closet across the hallway”. He pointed behind back the way you had come.
“Ugh, yeah sure are you guys alright?” You questioned.
Sabo just nodded not really akwoldging  you as he hauled Ace by the sleeve of his shirt and put him into a seat at the breakfast bar.
You walked to the closet and opened the door it was dark inside but you didn’t need to see where the objects were. Grabbing them you closed the door and headed back into the kitchen where Sabo was staring at Ace in frustration.
You looked over at him he was leaned over the counter his forehead laying against the wooden surface.
“Here.”
Sabo sighed and reached out for them as you placed them in his grasp.
“Is he alright?” You asked unsure.
“He will be but it really isn’t anything new he is like this every year.” He said as he began sweeping up the glass.
You bit your lip as you stood there wondering what you should do. You wanted to be helpful but it seemed like a private matter that Sabo could easily take care off.
“If you want you can put him in his bed,” Sabo spoke without looking at you as he dumped the glass into the trash bin.
You looked at him and blinked as if you weren’t expecting him to answer your worries. Walking forward you stood next to the man who was groaning softly into his chest. Gently placing your hand on his shoulder to not startle him you also opened you mouth to talk.
“Ace.”
He groaned again as if acknowledging you.
“Come on let’s get you to bed, alright?” You said as he got up without a fuss.
....
Once inside his room you guided him slowly to the bed as all his dead weight was laid on top of you. It was extremely uncomfortable but you bared it as you mostly threw him onto the twin size bed. He landed awkwardly on his face as the mattress squeaked under the pressure. You sighed at the sad sight as you picked up his feet and hauled him into the bed. You weren’t going to baby him or be gentle.
Ace mumbled from where his face was planted in the maroon sheets. You rolled your eyes and shoved at his shoulder hard enough to move him slightly to were yup could hear him speak.
“I’m fine (Name) you can just go.” He said with no heat behind it.
You huffed and crossed your arms in annoyance at his statement.
“I’m not going until you get into bed Ace.”
The man just sighed as heaved himself upward and began shimmering his way out of his work pants. His button down followed surely until he left in a a plain undershirt and his boxers. The sight alone made your cheeks redden as you quickly hid your face into your hands.
“Well, are you happy?” He asked as he pulled his comforter around his body.
“Y-yes! I’ll be going now, I'll see you tomorrow!” You said your voice went a pitch higher as you left the room shutting the door behind you.
As soon as you left the room you groaned as you leaned your head back against his door. Well that just happened even though nothing actually occurred just him taking off his clothes to sleep. Patting your flaming cheeks to come yourself you stepped away from the door. Only to hesitate as you looked at the door as concern took over.  As you ponder about what exactly could have him so uneasy and so unlike the man you knew.

Burnin’ up
Summary: On a ship as lively as theirs, Zoro should have known there’s no such thing as privacy. Aka Zoro and Nami keep getting cockblocked. Rating: M. Explicit.
Can also be found on FFN and AO3.
So, this is a sequel to ‘Feel the burn’. It’ll probably help if you read that first, there are a few references from that story in here.
Amazing Pink left a really nice review on FFN, saying they were looking forward to more and I was so adamant that this was a one-shot and at the time, I was so sure too! But my other WIPs are being difficult right now and my mind drifted over to what a sequel to this would look like… at 2am and thus, this was born! So really, we all have Amazing Pink to thank for the gentle prod, I’m not sure I would have given it any thought otherwise.
Also, no, I was not inspired by ‘Burnin’ up’ by the Jonas Brothers (but I did listen to it after I realised… it’s a good song, let’s not lie).
Enjoy.
It’d been weeks since the crew had found out about his relationship with Nami. He wasn’t exactly sure what he was expecting back then when they inevitably did find out. They’d blinked up at the crow’s nest as him and Nami peered down at the crumpled form of Sanji, who was still laying there holding that stupid drink upright like it was the most important thing, and watched as a lightbulb slowly appeared over their heads as they pieced it together.
Well, Luffy took longer but when he finally realised, prompted by Robin and Usopp, he’d shrugged like it was nothing new and asked Sanji if he could have the drink.
They… didn’t care.
Not in the slightest.
Nami had rolled her eyes and said they should go down and get it over with. He didn’t enjoy the knowing looks, but it could be worse. He wasn’t sure what that worse was. They were crewmates… friends, what did they have to actually be upset about?
Instead they’d looked apprehensively as Sanji got to his feet, his eyes had flitted from Zoro to Nami, no doubt trying to decide what absurd reaction to have. The last thing Zoro had expected was for him to kneel in front of Nami, taking her hand in his and press his forehead to it, telling her he’d pray for her good luck, that she didn’t deserve whatever curse had been put upon her to have to deal with that marimo idiot.
Nami had been stupefied for a second but then she’d laughed, head thrown back and Zoro grit his teeth. Neither of them had expected this but of course he should have known that the stupid cook would take this opportunity to take a shot at him.
And just like that, the moment had passed. Everyone was up to speed and watched as Zoro and Sanji duked it out before Nami stepped in.
Nothing had changed.
.
.
.
Considering how easy everything had been up to then, from getting together with Nami and the crew finding out, this wasn’t a hurdle he was expecting.
They kept getting cockblocked.
Whether it was in her room, in the bathroom, in the men’s room… even in the library when she was supposed to be working on maps- they were interrupted. The main perpetrator was Sanji. Zoro suspected he was doing it on purpose, he wasn’t sure how, but he just knew it. It was to get under his skin, the cook was definitely thatpetty and what made it worse was that it was working.
This time was no different.
It was late and Nami had been sitting by her trees when he’d found her with a drink in hand. Dinner had long since passed and they could still hear Luffy and the other’s playing in the distance somewhere on the ship. But it was far enough away that they didn’t have to worry about being interrupted.
Nami’s head settled on Zoro’s shoulder and as much as he put on a show of griping about having to share his alcohol, he still let her have it relatively easily.
“Mm, this is nice,” Nami hummed.
Zoro didn’t respond verbally, but he did hum back at her in agreement. It was rare they could have a quiet moment together. That didn’t last for though as Nami’s hand came to rest on his thigh and started to play with the fabric of his trousers.
He looked down at the hand and although she wasn’t looking, he still raised an eyebrow. “Playing with fire there, Nami.”
“Nothing I can’t deal with,” she said, tilting her head up to look at him and even he knew that was an invitation.
Leaning down, he pressed his lips to hers and although he meant to keep it brief, her free hand snaked up to the back of his head to hold him there. Not one to be outdone, he slanted his lips against hers and pulled her into him. She hummed again but this one wasn’t to convey content; it was to spur him on.
It worked.
He was pushing her back after that, so she laid beneath her trees and he was hovering above her. Her arms wrapped around his waist and her hands ran along his back. As he slipped his tongue into her mouth, his own hand ran along her bare thigh to play with the hem of her skirt.
Just as his hand was about to explore further, that’s when it happened.
“Nami-san~”
A voice that wasn’t his, calling after his girlfriend.
“I don’t believe in God, but I’m willing to if it meant he’d leave us alone,” Zoro said, irritated, against her lips. His hand already retreating down her leg.
“This was funny at first but now…” She sighed heavily; her head thumping back against the decking.
“It was never funny,” he hissed. His trousers were always way too tight when this happened, he couldn’t see the humour in it.
“Oh come on! Seeing the normally composed, aloof swordsman all worked up? Pure gold,” she teased, now looking at him and leaning in to press a lingering kiss to his lips. It was a winding down kiss and Zoro knew it all too well by now.
“Nami-san~” The voice sang again, much closer than either of them expected and the loud footsteps told them the interloper was drawing in quickly.
How the hell did he find her so easily? Zoro was convinced he’d put a tracker on her.
Hurriedly, he was tugging her back up as she was smoothing her hair down to look presentable when Sanji appeared. Sanji didn’t look phased in the slightest, either he didn’t know, or he didn’t care what they’d been doing. It was too early to tell which it was. Zoro glared at him but Sanji wasn’t looking, eyes trained on Nami instead.
“Sanji-kun,” Nami greeted, although even her voice sounded strained, at least he wasn’t the only one affected. However, that wasn’t the name he wanted to hear coming from her lips right now.
“Nami-san, I’ve made a dessert in the kitchen for both you and Robin-chan, would you do me the honour of accompanying me there?”
As soon as he asked, Zoro knew she wouldn’t refuse him. Nami could be rude when she wanted to be, normally when she was busy, but evidently, she wasn’t now, and she definitely wouldn’t continue where they’d left off. So, it was no surprise when she stood to follow Sanji, telling Zoro that she’d find him later.
When Nami wasn’t looking, Sanji threw an all to knowing smirk over his shoulder at Zoro.
He knew it! Bastard.
Zoro wondered if during the next storm that hit, he could push the cook overboard and make it convincingly look like an accident.
But even that thought didn’t make him feel much better.
.
.
.
Now, Zoro had no shame about being walked in on. In his opinion, it’s the person’s fault for not knocking or for not minding their own business. But that wasn’t the case for Nami. For someone who’s so forward and confident in her sexual appeal, she’s oddly shy. She goes red, either gets angry or fumbles through being caught (depending on who catches them) and then leaves shortly afterwards.
And that’s fine, the mood’s been lost and if she’s not completely into it then even he doesn’t want to continue. But someone needed to tell that to his dick. Because that’s still ready to go afterwards, ready to soldier through and he’s not sure if he can bear having to calm himself down again.
All of that is thrown out of the window however, when Chopper walks in of them.
Things are getting hot and heavy in the library. Nami’s hovering over Zoro, her lips firmly attached to the junction between his neck and shoulder and when he feels her teeth, he knows he’ll be wearing a shirt for the next couple of days. He doesn’t need the heckling in the men’s room.
Both of them are shirtless, having got rid of them ages ago and at this point, Nami’s skirt should join the pile too because his hands have travelled from the back of her thighs up to her behind to play with sliver of lace there. It really served no purpose now other than bunching at her hips.
He’s about to move things forward when she beats him to it. Her lips trace up his neck the same time her hand moves down to rub over the bulge in his trousers. It takes her almost no time to find his length and stroke him through the material. His head’s thrown back and he’s groaning at her ministrations. He could happily come like this.
“Feel good?” She whispers hotly into his ear, but he can’t respond with words. His loud groan is enough though as she laughs lightly.
Feeling encouraged at his heavy breathing, her hand plays with the waistband of his trousers, fingers tracing along the skin there and making his hips jerk upwards. She pushes past his waistband, past his boxers and he exhales loudly as her fingers delicately touch his dick.
But the strangled squeak at the door brings everything crashing to a halt. They both freeze and turn their heads in horror to see the tiny reindeer stood there. Chopper’s expression mirrors theirs, his eyes round like marbles, and they can see him silently panicking, unsure what to do. But Nami and Zoro aren’t sure what to do either. So all three of them, stay frozen and staring at each other for another moment.
Nami seems to realise their position quickly enough and her hand shoots out of Zoro’s trousers. Her mood does a complete U-turn after that. From the confident, sexy woman above him that just had him squirming for her to a blushing mess that is trying to bury herself into him… or through him, he’s not sure.
That leaves only Zoro and Chopper still staring at each other because Nami’s left him to deal with this as she tries to master how to be invisible.
That lack of shame from earlier was a lie in this moment when Chopper darts out, slamming the door behind him without a word.
Nami’s face is still buried in his neck and he can feel the heat from her face on his skin. He’s pretty sure his face is matching. But on the bright side, his boner has instantly disappeared. Apparently, it’s one weakness is tiny, talking reindeers.
At least he doesn’t have to calm himself down now.
“Oh god. That’s mortifying,” She mumbled against his skin after a few silent moments. “Do we… go after him?” She’s finally pulled her head back to peer up at him.
He shrugged back. How was he supposed to know?
“You should talk to him. You’re close, he looks up to you.”
He spluttered. “And you’re not?”
“This feels like a guy thing.” Sitting up now, she gives him a thumbs up, completely over her embarrassment. “Good luck, Zoro!”
He glowered at her cowardice but knew there was no use arguing. Apparently, this had been settled.
Nami had just got her top back on and skirt straightened when the door opened again and both of them turn to gape as Chopper re-entered. Except this time, he inches in with much more caution and a hoof covering his eyes.
“Is everyone decent?” Chopper asked, slowly moving his hoof down but keeping his eyes closed.
Nami’s gurgling is apparently enough confirmation for Chopper to open his eyes and when he does, he looks incredibly determined. Nami quickly scampered off of Zoro’s lap to sit next to him and attempted to look presentable. Zoro snorted but winced at the elbow he received in the side.
Chopper approached them both and in his free hoof he was holding condoms. Nami’s eyes bulged and Zoro grit his teeth, knowing exactly what was coming.
“Safe sex is really important. It’s dangerous to not be prepared for a number of reasons, mainly unplanned pregnancy but also for sexually transmitted diseases.” He’s looking at both of them as he speaks, completely clinical and in doctor mode. “Even if you don’t sleep with other people, it’s possible to contract them in other ways and pass them on through sexual activities.”
“Oh god,” Nami said quietly, face burning but still nodding.
Zoro has enough sense to stick his hand out and accept the condoms. He almost balked at the amount of condoms Chopper puts in his hand and is that lube in there?! He doesn’t ask, he’s not sure Nami would survive it.
“Do you need a demonstration on how to put a condom on? Because incorrectly done makes the condom useless.”
Nami wheezes but shook her head and Zoro replied for the both of them. “No, we’ve got this covered.”
Chopper seems to accept that and nods.
“If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate.” Chopper paused, giving them both a moment to think it over, before continuing, “I’m the ships doctor and this is important. I’ve already had this conversation with Robin and Franky.”
That lightens the tension and their embarrassment floods out at the knowledge of tiny little Chopper giving their oldest members the talk. At least Nami doesn’t look like she’s going to combust anymore, and he knows that she’ll be getting details from Robin about that later.
Chopper left shortly afterwards, with a final comment to please come to him with anything, and Nami relaxed slightly, letting out a deep breath in relief.
“Well, looks like I don’t have to talk to him now.”
He felt like he didn’t deserve the punch.
.
.
.
“Whoops, sorry guys,” Usopp said, hand covering his eyes immediately after walking into the library and seeing them sat next to each other. “I didn’t see anything.”
“We weren’t-”
“No need to be embarrassed-” Usopp cut in.
“We’re not embarrassed!” Zoro said. What’s there to be embarrassed about, they’re not even touching.
“It’s a completely natural thing between a couple-”
“For god sake!” Nami snapped, “Uncover your eyes, we’re not doing anything!”
“Do you guys need more condoms? Chopper said-”
That was enough for Nami’s temper to snap. “Get out of here!” And then a book’s being thrown where Usopp once stood.
The door slammed behind him and they’re left in the silence of now knowing that there’s no way the crew aren’t talking about this amongst themselves.
Because Usopp had never walked in on them before.
.
.
.
Zoro wonders how Franky and Robin do it.
He’s currently in the crow’s nest and, normally, he’d be completely focused on what he’s doing but he can’t stop his mind from wandering.
It’s apparently no secret in their crew that him and Nami haven’t been able to get very far, much to his annoyance. Annoyance that they haven’t got far and that they’re all talking about it. He knows they are, based on the looks he’s getting from Franky and he hasn’t even walked in on them. The older man keeps giving him looks like he wants to come and talk to him about it. For now Zoro’s keeping him at bay with his glaring but he knows that only works for so long. He didn’t want to have another sex talk.
Maybe it’s all Robin, Zoro thinks, circling back to his original thought. Franky was huge, there was no missing him, but Robin was crafty. With all the hands and eyes and ears. Maybe she uses them to stop people walking in on them… and can’t she duplicate herself?
Zoro suddenly grimaces, catching himself before his thoughts go elsewhere. There is no way he’s thinking about someone else’s sex life right now. Especially his friends.
Maybe he should just suck it up and ask Franky for advice. He could already imagine Franky’s blubbering but Zoro knew he’d keep it a secret… although he’d definitely tell Robin and she’d tell Nami. And Nami would tease him, even if it helps her too.
Urgh.
“You’re doing it wrong,” a teasing voice called from behind and he turned to see Nami grinning up at him from the entrance of the crow’s nest.
Well aware of the familiar scene before him, he teased back, “Enjoying the view? That costs you know.”
Nami laughed sharply, pulling herself up into the crow’s nest to walk towards him. “We’ll call it even from the last time.”
“Oh, so you admit you’re staring now?” And just like that, any of his previous thoughts vanish as they fall into their normal routine.
Although he’s already warmed up, he still waits for Nami to catch up and stops his squats to walk over and correct her stance. They’ve fallen into a natural rhythm working out together. She doesn’t always join him, he works out every day and sometimes she just doesn’t have the time, so she appears whenever she has a moment to spare. He’s come to enjoy this time they spend together and sharing his knowledge with her. Also, from his appreciative glances when he’s not entirely focused, he can see she’s starting to tone up.
“Is there even a point to me spotting you? I’m pretty sure that weighs more than I do.” Nami’s warmed up by this point but she’s taking a small break before going into sit ups.
“No, but the view’s good so don’t move.” And shamelessly his eye flicked from her face to her chest and back. His grin only widening at her flushed cheeks, but he doesn’t miss the way her own eyes linger around his chest and arms. “Helps if you watch the weight though.”
“I could say the same to you!”
Despite his teasing, Zoro’s kept his hands to himself, only touching her when he needs to. A stark contrast from their normal workouts together and so far, Nami hasn’t noticed. As much as he wants to, he doesn’t know if he could face another interruption. Normally they don’t bother him up there, but if Nami’s with him the crew suddenly turn into blood hounds.
He’d back off until he can at least speak to Franky.
Pride be damned.
“Okay, that’s me done here. You’re going into sit ups,” Zoro said, pointing towards the mat in front of the crow’s nest bench.
With no hesitation she walks over to lay on the floor and start. Normally, he was taking orders from her but up here she followed his word so easily. It surprised him at first and at one point he wondered whether he missed her normal bossiness but she more than made up for it with smart remarks.
“You going to keep gawking like Sanji-kun or are you going to do something?”
Like that.
“Unlike the pervert, I can do both,” he said as he sat on the bench in front of where she was laying and picking up the weight there.
There was a peaceful silence between them as they focused on their respective tasks but Zoro found his gaze drifting over to Nami. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her breathing steadily getting heavier, but she was lasting much longer than normal these days. He’d have to switch up her routine soon to keep her on her toes.
When she laid down after her last sit up, he couldn’t stop himself from looking her over. From the blue leggings to the matching sports bra, she was panting on the floor and he had to try and keep himself from imagining her like that for different reasons. He’d made his mind up and getting himself worked up would only come around to punish him in the long run.
“Sorry to interrupt, but the rest of us are stepping off the ship for a bit.” The sudden appearance of a mouth on the wall didn’t faze either of them, they’d been around it for far too long. “We’ll be gone for a few hours… do with that what you want.” Humour was thick in Robin’s voice before the mouth disappeared in a flutter of flowers.
There was a short silence that followed afterwards as Zoro and Nami looked at each other. The atmosphere shifting slightly in the crow’s nest as the words started to sink in.
Except Nami didn’t seem surprised.
“You’ve been speaking to Robin,” he accused, narrowing his eye.
“Maybe.” She sat up and attempted to look innocent. “Can you really blame me though?”
“Desperate for me then?” He smirked and leaned towards her.
“Like you haven’t been thinking about talking to Franky.” She rolled her eyes, leaning back on her arms to stretch out her body. It worked when Zoro gave her a once over.
Well, she had him there. Sometimes he wondered if she could read his mind. He said nothing but that told Nami everything as her smile broadened.
“Anyway, you should be thanking me.” She stood, getting to her feet to stand in front of him and he wasted no time in making a gap between his legs for her to stand between. “We have a free ship. No interruptions,” she said lowly.
“At this point, I don’t think I’d care if we were interrupted.” His gaze darkening as his hands palmed at her hips.
“Big words coming from someone who still can’t look Chopper in the eyes,” she snorted, her hands equally adventurous as they ran along his shoulders.
“You can’t either!” And he pinched lightly at her hip in retribution.
“Shut up and kiss me Zoro.” She’d long since had enough of this conversation but it didn’t matter for Zoro because it’s a command that he can wholeheartedly get on board with.
He wasted no time in pulling her down onto his lap
The kiss is bruising, and it’s with more force than he’d intended, but honestly, he didn’t care. Because she’s kissing him back just as roughly, lips frantically moving against the others and their teeth clash together at one point, but it doesn’t deter them. They’ve both been waiting far too long for this and it’s obvious in the way she’s already pulling at his hair and he’s probing her lips with his tongue.
They pause to breath roughly against the other’s lips but there’s no rest when her hands insistently start pulling up his top. “You never wear a top to work out and you pick today of all days to?”
“You should have told me your plan beforehand and I would have made sure I was wearing as least as possible.”
The moment his top’s off and thrown behind them, her hands are smoothing across his chest and he’s pulling her back into their kiss. It’s less bruising now but still just as desperate, enthusiasm dripping into the kiss. His hands slip up her waist lingering around the dip in it before fiddling with the clasp of her sports bra.
The bra teases him when they work out together and it’s still doing it now.
“Would you hurry up,” she said against his lips, impatient but unwilling to break the kiss properly. Her hands are now playing with the waistband of his bottoms and it’s not helping him focus on the task.
“Well it’s hardly like I’ve had much practice with taking your clothes off, is it?” He grumbled back. His fingers felt far too big for such a tiny clasp, how did women do this every day?
“We’ll work on it, but now’s not the time.” Her hands leave his waistband to meet his at her bra clasp and she pushes them away to unhook it with such an ease that it almost mocks him. It’s hard to still be annoyed when the bra’s off and joining his top of the floor.
With her breasts now free, he aims for her neck, working kisses down it and nipping as he works his way down. Her hands are in his hair, threading through it and encouraging him to continue. He kisses a particularly sensitive spot when she shallowly gasps but it’s nothing compared to the noise she makes when he finally reaches her breasts. It’s louder, less surprised and filled with pleasure that makes him twitch in his trousers.
He’s rewarded with the sound again when he takes her nipple into his mouth and licks. Her hips are grinding into his and it’s hard to focus but he doesn’t stop her. If anything, his free hand is pressing her hips into his even more to increase the pressure.
When she bounces this time, he’s pushing her off of him and onto the mat on the floor. He follows after her quickly to cover her body with his own and this position is much easier to roll his hips into hers. They both moan when he does.
“Zoro- hah- take off your trousers,” she rushed out, breathless when he doesn’t relent on sucking on her nipple.
He just about hears what she’s saying over the pulsing in his ears but he’s more concerned with getting her leggings off. He leaves her nipple then, leaving it with a parting kiss before he’s sitting up and pulling down the waistband of her leggings. He doesn’t need to say anything for her to lift her hips, but he does when he struggles to get the leggings off her legs.
“What are these things made of?” He huffs, now sat back on the ball of his feet and glaring down at them.
Nami doesn’t respond but she does start laughing when he gives a particularly harsh tug and they barely give.
“Laughing isn’t helping here Nami!”
“Sorry- it’s just- your face!” She snorts in laughter. “Actually, take these too.” And she’s pulling her underwear down to meet the leggings now at her calves.
Zoro tried to stay focused but she’s almost naked before him for the first time ever and he can’t look away. The leggings finally give and he’s angrily flinging them across the room, hoping he never sees them again.
The foot on his arm distracts him from lingering on that thought for much longer and Nami’s nodding towards his own bottoms. “Take them off too!”
Something that he wholeheartedly agrees with and he’s standing
Nami’s looking up at him in disbelief and eyebrows raised when he joins her on the floor again. He quirks an eyebrow.
“No underwear?”
He snorts. “Never do. Waste of time.”
He’s not interested in her response, although she definitely does mutter something under her breath and it’s most likely snarky. Instead he’s kissing her again, less rushed as it sinks in that they’ve really got time and there’s no one ready to walk in at any second.
His hand wanders down, skimming over her stomach and all too quickly it’s grazing over wet lips. He bites back a groan when he realises how wet she is when they’ve barely done anything but Nami’s moaning below him as his hand teases her. Stroking up and down, he watches her eyebrows knot and she’s biting her lip to hold in her moans.
That won’t do.
With his free hand, he holds her jaw to make sure she can’t look anywhere else but at him and the thumb on his other busy hand stroke over her clit. She gasps then, unable to hold in the noise.
“Come on Nami, you’re not normally quiet. I want to hear you loud, tell me how much you’re enjoying yourself.”
The pinch in her eyebrows and downward curve of her mouth tells him she’s about to refuse him but when she opens her mouth his thumb picks up the pace and instead of words, a wanton moan breaks free from her lips.
“That’s it,” he praised and as much as he’s desperate for his own relief, hers is far more important to him. He’s trying to take in as much of her face as he can, and he almost wished he still had his other eye in this moment.
“Okay, enough,” Nami panted out and she’s pushing his hand away. Before he can ask what’s wrong, she’s cupping him. “I want you in me.”
Damn.
And he’s all too ready to follow that command.
“Hang on.” Zoro got up and walked over to the locker across the room. He pushed some stuff out of the way before finding what he was after. He turned back to Nami and smirked as he held up a condom.
“Chopper would be so proud,” Nami laughed. “But you called me desperate yet you’re the one storing condoms around the ship?”
“Saved us time, didn’t it?” He said, shrugging, as he walked back over, throwing the condom down next to her and covered her with his body again. “And don’t mention Chopper right now.” That’s the last thing he needs going through his mind.
He kisses her after that, trying to quickly reclaim the mood and it’s not as lost as he thought it was when her legs start to wrap around his waist. What he doesn’t expect is for her to suddenly roll them so that she’s on top.
“I’d rather be on top if that’s okay with you?”
Oh shit. “Fuck, you’re sexy.”
“I’ll take that as a yes?” She winks at him and moves her hips against his. He can feel her wet heat on his dick, and it makes his head go fuzzy for a second. He needs this to speed up before he loses his load.
“Yeah, you’re sure? We can stop at any time.”
She’s smiling down at him softly and nodding back at him.
After that, she’s picking up the condom and rolling it down his dick. He stops breathing as she does. Then she’s taking his dick into her hand, lining him up and sinking onto him. He grips her hips and shit; this feels better than he could ever have imagined. Nami throws her head back and her palms are spread across his chest to give her some leverage.
He shouldn’t be surprised that she wants to be on top and in charge. It’s no different to their normal daily interactions, where she’s bossing them around and although he’d normally argue back- this he doesn’t mind. In fact, it gets under his skin in a pleasant way and makes him feel even hotter. It’s no secret that her bossiness turns him on a bit and the look she’s throwing at him now tells him she knows it too.
The first time she moves bobs up and back down he almost smacks his head back into the mat but he’s not about to take this laying down. The second time he digs his feet into mat to match her thrust and he’s rewarded with a load moan from her.
The pace only picks up from there and the room is filled with the sound of their moans and skin slapping as they both work towards their high together.
Except, far too soon, Nami’s pace is starting to slow and the way her legs are twitching tells him that she’s getting tired.
He sits up then, more than happy to take over the reins. “More squats for you next time,” he quips in her ear.
She swats his shoulder but buries her face in his shoulder and moans weakly at her last attempt to grind down on him. Gathering her in his arms, he started to stand, refusing to pull out of her and walked them towards the empty wall of the crow’s nest.
He’s well aware of how familiar this scene is, except this time around they’re having sex instead of making out. He presses her up against the wall, her legs still tight around his waist and he thrusted back into her.
“Do you know how good you feel?” He whispered to her.
He restarted the pace, slowly grinding into her and picking it up from there. He continued to whisper into her ear, about how she feels, how he’s going to make sure she sees stars and it worked as her moans start to pick up and she’s moving her hips against him.
She grips onto him, clinging to him in her pleasure and he knows he’s doing something right when he nails start to dig into his shoulders. Maybe it’s the masochist in him but it only turns him on further and makes him work harder.
The way she started to babble nonsense means he’s close to pulling her with him over the edge and he sure hoped so because he can feel his end coming.
“Touch yourself,” he said, his hands too occupied with keeping her up against the wall.
“Zoro.” The way she moaned his name really does something for him and he wants to hear it again. “I’m really close,” she whined.
“Me too,” he panted against her neck.
He kisses her after that and it’s sloppy and uncoordinated and they take more breaks to breath against each other’s lips than actually kiss but it only heightens the feeling.
It’s then, when her moans start to break apart and tumble out of her lips that he felt her tighten around him and he can feel his high drawing in. He can’t last though that feeling of her clamping down of him or her calling out his name. He thrusts in relentlessly to chase after his high and join her and he felt it shortly after, pleasure streaking down his back.
He isn’t even sure how he’s still on his feet or holding her up, but he managed it as he worked through his orgasm with her. It’s only as he started to come out of it that he realised he’s probably crushing her into the wall now instead of holding her up against it.
Stumbling over, he made it down to the mat and collapsed back, pulling Nami on top of him. She moaned weakly when he pulled out of her. Considering how his back stung, he can only imagine the marks he has there.
Nami came to when she started to press kisses against his chest and his hand continued to run a path up and down her back.
“Zoro, that was-”
“Great? Yeah, it was.” He smirked down at her and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “Makes you want to kill our crew members for constantly interrupting us when we could have been doing this sooner? Yeah, it does.”
Nami laughed lightly at that but groaned shortly after. “I feel gross.”
And she had a point. They were sweaty from working out beforehand but mixing in sex with that only made it worse. He grimaced as he peeled off the condom.
“Let’s go get cleaned up.”
“Bathhouse?” She asked, eyes lighting up and it’s evident from her tone that they’ll be doing something other than getting clean.
“The door has a lock too.” His expression mirroring hers and promising other activities.
Nothing more needed to be said as Zoro hauled Nami up and towards the exit of the crow’s nest, clinging to one another as they went.
-------------------------------------------
Shout out to Marimoandtangerine from Tumblr. She drew a scene of Nami and Zoro working out in the crow’s nest for the Tumblr event that we both took part in and joked how much our pieces mirrored each other without us even knowing… but now they definitely do because I incorporated that scene when writing this.
You can see her fantastic art here.
Chopper said safe sex! The moment I had him walking into this cockblocking escapade, I had to have him giving a lecture.
As always, please excuse any errors.
Thanks for reading.

Compass Left Behind
Ao3 - One Piece, Gen, Modern AU, Look for Warnings! (See Ao3), Focus on Straw Hats.
Word Count: 2,847
-
When Ace dies in a flurry of fast motions and undeniable death (gun fight – a gang fight, Akainu fire arson why were you born- oh god it burns) Luffy screams at the pain of being alone. His brothers are dead, Shanks spirited away into the wind, Garp, military (abusive) and untrustworthy, and Makino and Dadan’s gang, underserving of this mess.
Luffy is 14 when he becomes completely abandoned, and he is 14 when the thought whispers into his mind
Why? Why am I alone? It shouldn’t be this way - Never should be this way. Where are they?
And so he starts to search.
-
Monkey D. Luffy first whispered into their lives with the soft smile on Zoro’s sunlit face as he wandered home from school. This smile last for the week, a week of Koushirou’s adopted son seeming more complete and alive than he has ever before - and then he is gone, katanas packed away with sturdy clothes and tracking chip pulled out of his phone
Koushirou wonders about the boy who Zoro mentioned only once (I met someone today – his name is (and the way he said the name sounded like a king)) but accepts it. Zoro always had the spirit of a wanderer in him - but it never seemed to belong just to him.
He reports Zoro’s disappearance to the authorities but it gets buried. Somethings were not meant to be - somethings were meant to be lost to the world (Zoro had always been lost – always had an internal compass that only pointed at one person.)
Koushirou hopes the boy he raised (in place of a daughter who died) is happy now.
-
They meet Nami in the mall, her life safe at last and her family and their tangerine farm whole and unharmed. There is nothing stopping her from saying no when Luffy stretches out hand, to stay with her family who have no recognition of the name Arlong.
But she takes the hand anyway, the weight she never knew was there lifting off of her. She was supposed to be a navigator for a big company in the fall, with big rewards, perfect for a girl who had no interest of spending big bucks at college
But she drops it all and takes the hand offered.
And well -
That is that.
(They, piled into Luffy’s (Ace’s) old custom flame-detailed Camaro, make for an odd bunch with Luffy’s scars and Zoro’s swords and Nami’s maps and money bags (and three shriveled tangerine tree seeds kept in a golden locket) but they could not care less.)
-
Usopp joins them three states over and for once does not lie - he speaks truthfully about the pull he feels, like waves to the moon’s commands, like a compass to the north and laments that maybe he’ll meet his dad on the road - out in the big wide radiant west.
He brings along a ride and tall tales, a reminder that there’s joy in the smallest of things.
(Kaya, they learn, is a name not to be spoken for she died a year ago, officially due to an illness. Unofficially, Usopp tells them of a butler who had a history in poison and botany, and how his claws quickly sunk into the family riches once the orphan girl passed away suddenly.
This is not a tale of heroes or interference in carefully laid plans- this is a tale of people finding home and family.
And Kaya, while she had a place in Usopp’s heart, never had a place aboard the sunny, beloved ship (home) in their dreams of before.)
-
Sanji kicks them from his restaurant, freshly inherited from Zeff who died three months previous, four times until he finally caves and agrees to go with them.
The chefs and waiters are happy to see him go, even if his boyfriend, Gin, isn’t (he’ll miss him, can’t he see that?).
The restaurant was never the twenty-two-year old’s dream, only a prison made of a debt and a soured paternal love and the staff knew that.
They do not understand what makes these strangers so important to him, but they do not stop him from leaving, from kissing his mafia boyfriend one last passionate time, from signing restaurant over to his most trusted workers and hopping in the car with two teens and a young adult.
It was never their place to know what made him so weary of food being stolen.
(Besides. His cigarettes were clogging up the air.)
-
They never meet Vivi. They only ever hear of her in newspapers clippings, proclaiming that the last princess of Alabasta perished during an uprising in her kingdom.
(It’s not a world of heroes and happiness, in this life)
The story is sad in general, but they are even more so because more than it being a tragic tale, they never got to meet her again.
(But they knew she would never, ever stay, no matter how hard they begged. Her heart belonged to the desert sun and the sand beneath feet, and the people hailing her name. Some things are constant like that.)
-
Chopper, prodigy and fully-fledged doctor at the age of twenty-six, takes one look at them and quits his job at his adopted father’s old clinic.
No one comments on how though he is the eldest, everyone ruffles his hair like he is the youngest.
No one talks about the little cherry blossoms and antlers embroidered on his sweater, or the way he despisesmushrooms.
No one mentions the way he gapes at Zoro and Luffy, one with too little scars (though they are thankful for that) and one with far, far too many.
(He’ll pass creams to both of them, helping smooth it over Luffy’s back and arms and chest and face and just anywhere really (so many scars - skin didn’t scar this easily before) and letting Zoro do his own, spreading the cool substance over his chest and ankles and face (but never his back - would be a shame if he did), places that had always ached mysteriously previously, and always during storms like Luffy’s did now)
-
Robin comes into their lives silently, appearing in the back of the Merry (Usopp’s mothers old Volkswagen van that he inherited, that he and Kaya had painted with pictures of seas and sheep and dreaming words before ... everything) one day and never leaving after that.
There are no doubts that she belongs with them - not this time, and not ever again. She brings a multitude of books with her and helps finishes Zoro’s and Luffy’s spotty education, filling in gaps of knowledge with care and love.
She never speaks of genocide, never speaks of the circling brand on her left shoulder blade, and the haunted look in here eye but she doesn’t have to.
Like before, the past does not matter here, with them.
(Unlike before, the only thing that does matter is them - there are no dreams in this concrete world, only slowly filling in the ache of where were you and I was alone.)
-
The blue haired man who tried to steal their car is Franky, and this time only his arm and nose are metal - it doesn’t make him any less strong or big though. Once he sees the little keychain of a straw hatted jolly roger, custom made, hanging on the mirror, however, he stops, sitting there in the front seat, the wires already hotwired, and smiles. That’s where they find him, and after only the briefest of introductions (for they all know each other already, really, in some inescapable way) and goodbyes (the Franky family are still family but the world is crueler now then then, and bonds like that aren’t meant to stay (but bonds like theirs are)) they leave after a small pitstop.
Merry cannot hold him (cannot hold three more people, they need more) and so it is a near blessing in disguise when Merry is forced to be ripped away from them by a bad car accident - a cop careening down the road after a clown with a sword (an odd sight but not the oddest. They were all more worried about clinging together and making sure they were all alive). No fights happen between them (they do not know how they would take it if one of them walked away - they don’t know if they even can now that they’ve found each other).
Instead, they watch as Franky commandeers his brother’s company for one week, and creates a home on the road for them. Simple and deceiving on the outside yet extravagantly homey within, the extremely luxurious and custom RV is familiar enough with a small shielded garden on the top, a library within and couches and bunks soft and plush to rest their weary head.
Sunny, they decide to call the RV, now detailed on the side in bold, dreamful lettering with a painted lion face, for all the sunny days they will have together.
(They’re almost complete.)
-
Brook sees them in the crowd and steps off his stage, disappearing into the night. His fans are disappointed and the rest of the world confused - where had the man gone?
The man himself is gaunt, brittle and bone like, which is only accented by his skeletal make up, but he laughs and cracks jokes with them all, one more puzzle piece, one more weapon to defeat the battle that is loneliness.
His music soothes them to bed with the sweetest tunes, and the songs he releases to the public are more popular than ever - for they have something the old Brook used to have but thought he never would again.
The love of family.
(He does not speak of years spent by the coast, playing songs with other folk and whales, as they danced happily to the breeze. He does not speak of tsunamis and death and wondering why he above all others survived because he knows why - so the loneliness would end when he was with them.)
-
Jinbe is last and when they break him free from the prison on the coast, it is all they can do not to cry with relief. They are whole again, never mind the mafia and government after them thanks to Jinbe’s escape, they can breathe again.
When they collapse inside Sunny, far away from the lights that searched for them, bandages applied to broken boys (why did he have so many scars?) and smiles given, they do cry, and Jinbe envelopes them all with a hug until they fall backward into a giant, happy dog pile.
He is warm and big and steers them in the right direction, just as he always did. The last part of the puzzle is complete and now they can be free with each other instead of trapped alone.
(Jinbe is the first to know about the beginning, what happened to their captain in this life, (for he knew Ace as well) and he does not forgive himself for not being there like he was before. But he does pray to and thank every god he knows that Luffy was able to get up alone - and find them all.
It’s a miracle, really. (It’s what he was known for))
-
Together they travel, making money in dubious ways (street performance and thievery among them – stealth is a skill that Luffy has somehow acquired now but they do not like to think about how) and having as much adventure and life as they can before their time inevitably runs out.
They travel and learn about each other what makes them different from before (they learn what before was.)
They learn of new ages (Luffy 14, Zoro 16, Nami 18, Usopp 20, Sanji 22, (Vivi would be 24) Chopper 26, Robin, like before 28, Franky 30, Brook 32, and Jinbe, 34 - two years apart for the two years they spent apart. They wished their youngest weren’t so young,) new habits (video game design was what Usopp was going to go to college for, once he had saved enough) and the things that stayed the same (Nami can still haggle prices down to a quarter of the original price, and Zoro still uses three katanas.)
It’s a good life, a happy life. They found each other again - how could it not be?
-
Of course - not everything’s perfect. It comes back to them in the little moments
It’s In the way Zoro will sit himself beside the door on rainy days, ready to catch anyone who slips; in the way Nami hoards money like she’ll die without it and what she’ll be willing to sacrifice for it (herself and others but never her family), in the way that Usopp, though understanding, will lurch whenever someone seems just a tad too sad and frantically tell a tale as if everyone’s life depended on it, and the way he’s wary of every trusting, loyal servant they come across.
It’s in the way Sanji won’t eat if someone else wont (all too common, none of them are okay with food sometimes, even Luffy, who will sometimes stop eating randomly, or Zoro, who occasionally forgets he can keep eating) or in the way Chopper will quadruple check every medical thing he does when not in an emergency.
It’s in the way Robins mind goes blank at certain books and the way her fingers tremble even when doing something she loves; in the way Franky will ghost his hand over his nose and arm and belly and scars and remember the day everything was lost; in the way that Brook can’t stand foggy nights that become like his mind occasionally, clouded and alone.
And especially it’s in the way the Luffy, Luffy who used to never be afraid (because rubber couldn’t hurt, at least not easily), will flinch and snag fingers in Zoro’s or Jinbe’s clothing, arms taut and eyes wide, trembling and so abruptly quiet and push whatever food on his plate away whenever voices raise or fists fly in the kitchen (only ever the kitchen), and will shriek and go silent, crouched in a ball if its directed at him - (The kitchen area is a no fight zone now, if they have to do it they do it beyond the divider and in the other areas while the rest distract Luffy.) It’s in the way Luffy has far too many scars (from punches and kicks and being thrown off balconies and cliffs from supposedly loving hands, from fights in back alleys and scrambling to survive – he’s only 14 and before it wouldn’t faze them but this world is so much more real in the way the other wasn’t) and in the way one used to be able to count each individual rib on his side.
No.
It’s the little moments that hurt the worse.
-
But there are also happy moments, happiness found in places one wouldn’t think to look.
Like being chased by cars flashing red and blue lights, in a flame detailed beat up Camaro, like seeing how high cola rockets could blast, like finally hearing the end to Robin’s memorized bed time story that spoke of pirates of old and new, and sunny days always looking toward the horizon.
Like being there to see Zoro and Luffy, always on the same page, experience something for the first time, like the high school dance they snuck into or the stars on the unlit coast (well that was a first for most actually). Like seeing Brook’s guitar strum a special song just for each of them, or having Chopper give special band aids for each of them (Luffy’s had pirates, Zoro’s tigers, Nami’s tangerines, Usopp’s birds, Sanji’s hearts and Franky’s gears. Robin and Brook were more careful so everyone was still vying to see what design they would get)
It was the joys that built them up again
-
And it was the experiences that reminded them of who they were
Because no matter the world, no matter the life now or the life before, Luffy would always have the soul of a conqueror, of a king- and the rest of them would always be his most loyal crew.
These experiences included back alley fights and dealings and tussles with gangs, included hunting down Ace’s killer and killing him in return (because none of them are perfect, even now) in breaking out of prison as a family (whoever thought of imprisoning them all together made a mistake) to shielding Luffy from his grandfather when the mere mention let alone actually meeting with the man made him tremble and near cry.
It was falling from the mountain Skypeia, miraculously making it out alive and visiting Fishman Island off the coast of the southern continent. It was visiting Venice and Antarctica and the pyramids and breaking into historical places (but being respectful because robin loved history) and everything amazing in-between.
And it was being together that made it all worth it - because in this life they didn’t have dreams to reach for, to strive for, to devout their lives towards. They just had each other.
And that was enough

the accomplice of human restlessness

"The sea has never been friendly to man. At most it has been the accomplice of human restlessness." ― Joseph Conrad
-
Zoro knows Luffy for six and a half days before he agrees to run off (and search) with him.
Or, in a more accurate wording, it takes six and half seconds for Zoro to know he would follow Luffy to the ends of the universe if he wanted to venture there (because the Earth was way too small for the thing. that they shared.)
It all starts like this -
(And it never, ever ends.)
-
Zoro is walking home from school (which he skipped, half way through the day, because he could not take Mr. Morgan’s bullshit for one more goddamn second-) when he sees him.
He’s slight and thin, with far too many bruises covered tanned skin, and suspiciously young to be sitting in the driver’s seat of a custom Camaro (which is sitting crookedly on the side of the road) like that. But when he looks up at Zoro, red hoodie falling off his head and revealing his face and the scar sloping under his eye, Zoro’s breath is taken away.
This boy (his captain, his king) is not weak in any sense of the word.
And the smile that he gives him, full of sunshine and without any of the weary dread that shines in his in his eyes, is all that it takes for Zoro to fall.
Zoro slings his bag off his shoulder and throws it in the backseat of the car, sliding into the passenger seat.
“Where to?” He asks, all too trusting, all too insane.
The boy next to him places a straw hat that was previously resting on the dashboard onto his head. “Nowhere yet.” He says with a laugh, starting the car.  Zoro nods, and off they go, to the abandoned parking lot on the edge of town, where they eat cheap shakes that they didn’t really pay for and don’t talk at all (they don’t need too) until Zoro has to wander home.
Before he does he asks the boy his name, the second words they shared that day.
“Monkey D. Luffy,” He says, smiling, the setting sun casting shadows onto his face. “Ah! But don’t tell anyone okay? I’m just Luffy.”
“Aye, aye Captain,” Zoro says, for no reason at all other than it feels all to wrongnot to say it. “The names Zoro. I’ll see you around?”
Luffy doesn’t answer as Zoro walks off, but that’s okay.
Zoro already knows what he means.
-
Koushirou asks him only once about what makes Zoro so happy on the first day that this miracle happens and Zoro tells him, trying to convey what makes Luffy so Luffy, what makes him finally find direction and fill that aching. inside.He doesn’t know if he succeeds, but that’s okay. Koushirou never needed to know anyway.
(This time around, Koushirou is the man who adopted the rising kendo star in order to train him further. This time around, Koushirou stops training him when his real child (Kuina-) dies. This time around, there is no promise to be the greatest because swordsmanship is only a competition now, not a way of life, of death. This time around there is only loss and the ache of a compass spinning wildly around with no direction.)
The day after, Zoro doesn’t even bother going to school. Instead, he wanders over to the abandoned parking lot and through the open window of the car (did he have no self-preservation?) shakes Luffy, who was sleeping in the backseat, curled up into a little ball with his red hoodie acting as a weak blanket, awake.
“Wanna spar?” He asks to bleary eyes, heart jumping at the sudden light in them when Luffy agrees.
Zoro brings out his practice bamboo swords and Luffy brings out his fists. They fight for two hours, two hours of sweat and some blood and the absolute freedomthat comes with finding someone who won’t hold back against you, whounderstands-
Eventually, the human need to eat interrupts their conversation of fighting, and together they dine and dash at the local chain restaurant, laughing all the while. Zoro doesn’t comment on the nostalgic, sorrowful look in Luffy’s eyes and Luffy doesn’t comment on the understanding and elation in Zoro’s.
It’s a good thing.
A great thing.
They don’t spar again after that, at least on this day. Instead, they talk.
“Where’ you from?”
“Fuusha City. Its far away from here. Why’s your hair green?”
“’Cause it looks cool. Where’d you learn to fight?”
“…Around. How old are you?”
“Sixteen. You?”
“Fourteen.”
“And you’re driving the car? Damn, how’d you not get caught?”
“Shishishi- I don’t know. Maybe I’m just lucky? Why do you use only two swords?”
“Because-” And any answer no matter how sensible suddenly sounds wrong.“Huh.”
Luffy nods and that’s that.
-
Zoro spends all the money he had saved up for a motorcycle and picks up a third sword on the way home, saying nothing to the woman who runs the store as she worries over the supposed cursed sword (She looks so much like Kuina it hurts but the ex-marines shop is the only one with good swords around here.)
In the mirror at home, ignoring Koushirou’s critical looks (though he never mentions it he doesn’t like it when Zoro skips school) he practices his swords, changing the style drilled into him by Koushirou and placing a practice sword in his mouth.
Its new and shaky but sword fighting has never felt so right.
-
The third day is raining, and while Zoro has a flashing concern for the boy with only a car for a home, he goes to school.
He has few friends there – most are either scared of him or hate him – but its tolerable. Koby, pink haired and a Marine-hopeful, is scared of him but hangs out with him anyway. Zoro doesn’t claim to understand it, doesn’t even care, but there’s not a lot to do in Shells Town and it’s better to have someone to do it with.
“Where’d you go yesterday?” Koby asks, used to him skipping but, for some reason Zoro can’t understand, is always worried that he’ll skip on accident because he got lost. (Lies, Zoro claims, the streets move and you people give horrible directions, but can’t refute the fact that he once ended up the next town over on the fifteen-minute walk to school)
Zoro shrugs and bites into his sandwich. “Around. Met a guy.”
“Yeah?”
“Mmhmm.”  Zoro doesn’t offer any more than that and Koby, while wary, doesn’t push it. Instead, he looks him up and down and smiles. “What?” Zoro asks suspicious.
“You seem happier. More… something.” He says, and immediately flinches when Zoro casts him a look that says it all. The heck?
(Inside, there’s a whisper within Zoro that says Of course I’m happier with him. He’s my captain, my king. But he doesn’t hear it.
Even if in this life it’s still true.)
-
Later that night, amidst the pouring rain, Zoro attempts to go to sleep.
In the end, its futile, as his chest and ankles and eye ache as they always have, in a way unexplainable even to the best doctors, keeping him awake.
And…
There’s somewhere he needs to go.
So he goes, swords and a warm blanket in a bag on his back, slipping out the second story window and onto the tree next to it as rain crashes down on his shoulders. It’s a 25-minute bike ride, which takes longer in the pouring rain, but eventually he makes it to the abandoned lot on the outskirts of the town between the mountains, where the only car is an old flame detailed Camaro sitting alone in the lot.
Zoro knocks on the window in a session of quick motions. Inside, Luffy is almost how he found him yesterday morning, curled into a ball with his hoodie as a blanket. The only difference is this time, he’s awake, eyes wide and trembling, and sitting up with his arms wrapped around his legs.
When he meets Zoro’s eyes there is a dull recognition before he is scrambling over to unlock the door and haul Zoro in.
“Hey,” Zoro says softly, feeling as if he spoke too loudly the world would shatter around him.
“Hey,” Luffy says back just quiet, huddling into Zoro’s side, not even noticing the damp clothes.
It’s funny, Zoro notes, that if anyone else had touched him so casually he would have shoved them away in a heartbeat.
Zoro has a feeling (a knowledge) that Luffy doesn’t care much for rules of any kind.
Allowing Luffy to lean into him, he reaches down to where he slung his bag and takes out the blanket within, thankfully still dry. He takes a moment to wrap it around them both, and then, to the rumbling music of thunder and rain, talks.
-
What Zoro tells Luffy is this.
He’s an orphan, a foster child, tossed around and forgotten about for the majority of his childhood – he can’t even remember the place where he began now. There were good homes (Zoro you want to play with us? Oh – that’s a swordfighting contest, you want to watch it?) and bad homes (Zoro you aren’t allowed to eat – waste of space – sit out in the yard til I call you in)but none of them permanent - until he landed himself in a kendo competition near his Sensei’s home. There, his Sensei adopted him in order to further his skills after seeing his talent.
His Sensei had a daughter who he ignored, even though her talent was even greater than Zoro’s, all because she was a girl.
Zoro had trained with his Sensei, with Koushirou, hoping he could find whatever was missing from him when he picked up a sword. He never found it because two years after Zoro’s adoption, Kuina slips and falls and dies on some stairs right in front of Zoro, and Koushirou, although he does not blame Zoro, stops training him in his depression.
It’s been a year since then, and Zoro has kept it up but felt that his swordsmanship never felt as liberating as it should.
“Until,” Zoro finishes his story softly, “I met you.”
And in that sentence and meeting of eyes is a complete emotion of I understand, me too, it’s okay, you are not lost anymore, come with me – all things that could never be said otherwise.
Then it is Luffy’s turn to talk and Zoro hurts but does not pity because Luffy would never want that.
(Later, he’ll wonder if he’s the only one Luffy’s told the entirety of his past too. If he’s the only one who knows that Luffy used to have two brothers (one lost to a horrific car crash and another to a gun fight), had a bar for a home and a gang for a family, a jungle for a playground, a terrorist for a father and a piece of shit for a grandfather. He’ll wonder if he’s the only one who will ever know the secrets that bled onto a kitchen floor, the secrets of a familiar scar beneath an eye, wonder if this will be a story told only in the rain in a Camaro filled with aching wounds.
He’ll wonder.)
They fall asleep to the dwindling pitter patter of the rain, soft smiles on their faces as Luffy buries his head into Zoro’s shoulder and Zoro snoozes into a face full of black hair.
-
The fourth day of their meeting starts in a lethargic haze – the kind that comes with a great burden being eased suddenly and the exhausted triumph of its over with.
This haze also disappears when half way through the day, after another spar, a nap, and a dine and dash, Luffy asks Zoro thequestion.
A question, Zoro knows he should have the answer too, but can’t bear to say it all the same.
He doesn’t sleep in the car with Luffy that night, and instead goes back to the house where he and Koushirou stay.
(He can’t seem to call it home anymore, and really doesn’t that answer Luffy’s question more than anything else?)
-
Zoro’s earliest memory is of shining blue waters and a painted sail hanging over head. The voices around him are muted but there is something soft, almost like grass, beneath him and a warm sunshine on his face.
It’s a nice memory, but one Zoro cannot pinpoint, because according to the records, Zoro showed up one day, two years old, on an old woman’s doorstep, wearing clothes that reeked of hay and farm life.
Certainly not a life at sea.
Zoro has never even seen the sea, except in that memory, a memory that has felt more whole than he has ever been in his entire life.
He’s an orphan, people call him a loner, a lone wolf, his Sensei calls him antisocial and his few friends speak for themselves.
But – Zoro doesn’t see it that way. He thinks he would be a loner, content to get lost in the wilderness and find his own path, if not for the fact that he was incredibly certain something was waiting for him.
Looking at Monkey D. Luffy’s smile, he thinks he found it.
-
After Luffy asks the question, Zoro disappears back into his old routine for one day. He goes home, trains, eats dinner with Sensei (which is always a quiet affair) and then goes to sleep. The fifth day, he wakes up and heads to school, Johnny and Yosaku running into him along the way and picking him up (You were heading in the wrong direction big bro! It’s funny – they’re two years older than him and traveling instead of going to school but he’s still their big bro Zoro) He sits through classes and naps in the ones he doesn’t like or simply can’t understand, and eats lunch with Koby in the back of the cafeteria. He sends one last glare to the bully who used to always pick on Koby, and goes home to train and eat dinner with Koushirou.
Then – he falls asleep to the thought of it was nice to see them all one last time.
-
He wakes up on the sixth day and immediately packs his bags with the necessities – katanas, cleaning kit, clothes, phone, one blanket, and all the cash he has.
(He thinks about taking the photo of him, Sensei, and Kuina, on the day of his first championship win, but decides against it.
Like before– the past should not bind them.)
He pulls the tracking chip Koushirou had put in his phone out, and uses his debit card to get even more cash before tossing it away. Then, duffle bag over his shoulder and half a day wasted, he heads over to the abandoned lot, where Luffy is still sitting on the hood of his car, looking out to the endless horizon of gravel and sun and sky, straw hat firmly on his head.
He’s waiting for an answer.
The bag dumped in the backseat and the maniacal grin is answer enough, and the straw hat placed firmly on a green haired head is just confirmation of the fact.
Yet, Luffy asks as he’s sliding into the driver’s seat. “Ready to go Zoro?”
-
A question, asked under the hot sun and in an open lot, just like before. Phrased differently, but the essence of the original question still echoes in his voice
“Hey Zoro. Come with me?”
-
“Aye aye, Captain.”
Six and a half days after Zoro meets Luffy, they set out roaring down the streets and leaving the small valley town of Shells Town that Zoro’s been trapped in half his life behind without a second thought or not explaining where he is.
There are no promises, no dreams, no oaths sworn or battles won. There is just the fixing of an internal compass, finally directed to what truly matters (them all together again at last) and the slow filling in of an aching heart.
(People say he’s always been lost, but maybe it was just he wasn’t meant for where he was – was meant for his side, his captain’s, his king’s side instead)
It’s a good life as any, and - riding in a beat-up Camaro with the windows down, music blasting, and a license-less kid driving them - Zoro’s more content than he’s been in a long, long time.
