An adult White-crowned Sparrow (WCSP). This is a subspecies called Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow, as told by the yellow-orange bill and white lores (the space between the back of the bill and the eye). A young WCSP was featured earlier in the season from my last station, sporting a head of dark and light brown feathers. This adult show the black and white striped crown, which both sexes have. I personally love the brown-black-white striping of the back feathers. They give a sort-of pixelated look to the back, which likely helps with camoflouge in the shade-dappled understory of scrub they forage in.
