Costume Cdramas I watched in 2023

My 2nd year with Chinese dramas as my love for costume drama continues.

The title links to where you can watch it (tried to find free legal watches where available)

The Blood of Youth (40 x 45min, filming started in Oct 2021, released Dec 2022) fun action drama with a good dose of comedy, not for people who want lots of romance because they are too busy (and the canon couples don't have enough chemistry, there I said it) to be making out. Good for bromance, ghost ships and/or ace character head canons. Xiao Se's fur collar wins fur collar of the year, Tang Lian is my blorbo of early 2023.

My Uncanny Destiny (24 x 30min, filmed in autumn 2021, released Jan 2023) My favorite comedy of the year. Don't get turned off by the toilet jokes, it's a gem that spoofs drama tropes, gives you a coherent plot, silliness, fun side characters, a ML that is not afraid of being silly and a FL that plays capable and silly well. This might be a low budget production but they put that money to work. Politics, cross-dressing, found family, sisterhood, enemies to lovers, third wheel bisexual who reminds me of Wen Kexing, over the top villain, himbo villain who works out shirtless all the time, it got it all.

Wulin Heroes (22 x 45min, filming started Nov 2020, released Jan 2023) I watched this for Li Hongyi and he is incredibly beautiful in this so props to his stylist and cinematographer. BUT it is a badly written and edited low budget romp. If you are not watching for any actor then do not bother. FL is bearable once you realize she is very much of a lets see where this goes kind of character. 2nd ML is a suffering captive prince turned whiny regent played by Zhu Zanjin. So if you want to see Jin GuangYao suffer, you might like his scenes?? It can totally be read as a throuple especially with the New Tales of Wulin Heroes mini series add on. The choppiness might also be a result of the dangai ban??

No Doubt in us (24 x 14min, 2021, donghua) saw this on netflix and it roped me in with the body switch trope. It's sufficiently entertaining. Though I didn't enjoy the animation style apart from the chibi scenes.)

Heaven Official's Blessing (season 1, 11 x 26min, 2020, Donghua) It's THAT story and the art style is so pretty. I haven't read the books yet but still got what was going on most of the time. Liked it a lot. Haven't watched the 2nd season yet)

The Journey of Chong Zi (40 x 45min, filming started in June 2021, released Feb 2023) This xianxia is a mess! But it gave Scorpion King Li Daikun another memorable role with being the FL's protector. Watching Wang Zhoucheng having a ball with his role was fun. Immortal turned demon Wan Jie is so handsome and tragic. It did draw me in but the main couple is just ick so every time they were apart it immediately got better. ML's refusal to take the antidote to ease his obsession was lmao, FL is naive but charming and her demon styling rocks (do not get the hate on the actress, she is selfmade and there are many bad pretty face actresses around but I guess antis attract antis). Oh and there is a bromance between two of Chong Zi's harem members

Till the End of the Moon (40 x 55min, started filming in Nov 2021, released April 2023) aka my brain rot drama of the year. Drawn in from episode 1 on. Bai Li and Luo Yunxi <3 Pian Ran, Ye Qingyu, Nian Baiyu and Si Ying. <3 I was spamming tumblr with my screenshots, it was a jolly good time to watch this epic tale of love and suffering and saving the world dilemma with a great cast, characters, costumes, sets and soundtrack with the cdrama ppl of tumblr. If this weren't too complicated for cdrama newbies I'd recommend it to all my friends. Do not skip the dream arc (I ended up liking it) or later stuff will make less sense. I'm still annoyed that we didn't get a good extra episode that wraps up some lose ends for the main side characters and that reunion of the main characters but Youku really went nah we better play it safe with censors not liking happy ends for morally grey characters.

My Queen (24 x 45min, filmed in 2020, released Jul 2021) An FL enters a romance adventure VR game drama that I watched because I needed some fluff between TtEotM episodes. Why pick this among any other sufficiently entertaining dramas that are probably better written and not as forgetable? Because I wanted to watch Hu Wei (rich nepo baby in The Blood of Youth) in another comedy role >_> and ridiculous overacting he did deliver

The Trust (30 x 45min, filmed early 2021, released Apr 2023) The life action adaptation of the manhua No doubt in us is based on. I dunno why I finished this, I guess I'm not a quitter and needed silly stuff to balance TtEotM angst. For some reason the director thought it would be a good idea to film this like a donghua and it is causing 2nd hand embarrassment. The ML cannot pull off being a woman in a man's body, not even a martial arts nerd like Xu Yu. Like Wulin Heroes it was filmed before the dangai ban but that didn't stop them from having at least two bromances.

Wanru's Journey (24 x 35min, filming started in Jun 2021, released May 2023) A mess. So IQIYI released this simply to ride on the wave of Ao Ruipeng's The Blood of Youth popularity. Because this got so chopped down because of the dangai ban and it probably wasn't good to begin with. Basically an actress transmigrates into a dangai screenplay and gets between the leads while also making money by writing fic about them (ok this is my reading but she DID release fic and drawings of them). Of course it takes an unnecessarily dramatic turn, instead of staying on the comedy side, cannot remember more of the plot, oops.

King is not Easy (20ep x 30min, released Aug 2017) I watched this for the body switch trope and Bai Lu. Nice to see her actual face before the fair skin filter got her, entertaining enough, badly written silly comedy with mind mindbogglingly contrived final 4 episodes. It's Bai Lu's drama debut so it's nice to see how far she got

Destined (40ep x 45min, filming started in Jun 2022, released June 2023) Highly enjoyable. Fell in love with Bai Jingting. What's not to love about a playboy getting put on his path by his wife and them becoming friends, sworn siblings and then lovers in the process? No this is actually about FL finding her thing (trade) and being wildly successful at it, then it's also political, revenge and more. The leads are extremely charming and have great chemistry (the drama suffers every time they are apart lbr) and the writing is good, though people are too perfect and I wasn't into the whole palace stuff.

My Journey to You (24 ep x 60min, filming started Dec 2022, released Sep 2023) Had me from episode 1 on. Made me buy IQIYI VIP so I can watch it in good quality. Fell in love with Zhang Linghe. Yu Shuxin needs to do all the wuxia while she is still fit. Why waste being able to do the splits on some modern drama? The director sent her mud wrestling and she went for it. Everyone knows she is pretty no need for her to be beautifully put together on screen 24/7. Love the style, the character introductions, the characters, the cast, the chemistry, the story, the way you expect something and something else is going on. While it started out gloomy and remained so for the most part, it surprised me with throwing in more comedy than I expected. The good old idle manchild gets thrown into a position of power story but it's a murderous martial arts clan against another murderous martial arts clan. It's giving you some information but often just enough for getting what's going on just to play with your expectations later, FUN! And I didn't even mention all the other characters because surprise! this is actually an ensemble drama with several intriguing characters. Do not expect for the two leads to be on screen all the time.

Hilarious Family (24ep x 45min, started filming in June 2022 (?), released Sept 2023) A fun ensemble comedy I watched for Jackie Li. A widow moves to another city to marry off her 4 daughters (a silly man-crazy one, a homely one, a scholar one and a tomboy one). No it's not Pride and Prejudice but yes of course this is a romcom and all women have a love interest. It kind of drops off later on tbh, but still good for the characters and side characters. The success of this in China hopefully means that Jackie Li will get to be getting more comedies to work in after the Queen Lau disaster and people having a problem with her artist alias in 2022.

Hello There (20ep x 30min, released Jan 2023) I stumbled on this on IQIYI while looking for a light fast watch that will let my brain relax. The ML's best acting moment is when he plays a wooden robot. FL is fun. There are some questionable scenes, standard low budget action comedy fare.

An Ancient Love Song (14ep x 30 min, released June 2023) A wonderfully written and executed grown up time traveling story, that shows once again that you don't need a big budget to tell a story that draws you in. Ended my palace politics blockade. All this time traveling and no reincarnation in sight. ;_;

Story of Kunning Palace (38ep x 45min, filming started in May 2022, released Nov 2023) Tieing 2nd with My Journey to You for brainrot drama of the year. The cinematography is questionable, the story is not for teaching perfect courting behavior but those two are just such a good cp in their awkward messy way. Their friends/sidekicks are fun too and bring some comedy to that story though crazy in love ML is serving some comedy too. Props to ZLH for actually trying to grasp the basics of playing qin and not just waving over the strings like other dramas deem it sufficient. Bai Lu is Bai Lu-ing, gathering her harem. Coming into this right after An Ancient Love Song the idea to defeat destiny this time around seemed hopeless to me but this is one of those they are good at making plans and they turn out mostly alright dramas. I hope those two's material for the next years is as good as the two dramas with them I watched in 2023, fingers crossed!

Currently watching: A Journey to Love and Taoism Grandmaster as well as 2/3 through a LbFaD rewatch that I started in summer.

I also watched a handful of modern dramas (made in Korea and Japan) and some mini-dramas, but that is for another post.

And yes my most watched actors are probably those uncles stuck in Hengdian, might look that up another day.

If I got the time to blog about a drama I usually do it with screenshots so my tag for those posts is excuse my bad quality screenshots. In other cases I just reblog and put my thoughts in the tags.

Bathroom scene because I love these two

Let's start with a screenshot. This is Boston's face before Nick starts talking:

"I just want to talk to you for the last time. I just want to say that I'm really sorry about everything that happened. You don't have to forgive me. I just want you to know that being with you made me very happy. To me, you're a man with talent. One day, you will become a famous photographer. Just like you want. And you're not a bad guy. Your friends love you for who you are. You don't have to change. Because I love you for who you are as well. You're not going to see me again. I'm showing up in front of you for the last time. Goodbye, Ton."

And this is Boston's face at the end:

With simple words, Nick adresses everything Boston's character is about. There are hopes and dreams and Nick assures him to be himself. I especially love when he says Boston doesn't need to change in order to have friends or to be loved even. It's an emotion we only saw but Nick addresses it verbally and it's why Boston mostly felt like a real character. Not many people understand that Boston feared himself and what he is capable of but Nick always understood. It's a special and proper goodbye. There's nothing malicious, it's a farewell because they've been good together but circumstances led to this outcome.

Boston's gaze changes from annoyed to hopeful to sad to lonely. When his hook-up asks if Nick is his ex, he just says "I'm leaving". Because Nick isn't an ex since they never were official. There's not even a word to describe it but Boston is deeply hurt. He is heartbroken and that alone changed him. Nick changed him and Boston is a different person than before. Hoping to find a relationship in the US but finding it in Thailand, earlier than planned. What the preview tells us, he's not stepping down now that he realized how much Nick means to him and how much closure stings.

Also, the way the scene is gradually coming closer and the way it's fading out also shows something very important about Nick. Once his eyes catch Boston, we see Boston with this guy from a pretty close angle.

When Nick takes a second look, it's from far away. He doesn't allow himself to pine after Boston and he knows he will need to reach closure and he feels it has to happen now. Boston is off doing his thing and we see Nick watching him while standing next to someone else. He is moving on but still looking at Boston.

After their "talk" it's Boston in the background once again but now Nick doesn't pay him attention. Nick is talking to his date and Boston watches him with sad eyes. It shows Nick moving on and Boston being the one pining after him.

What's noticable is that even though Nick watches Boston in the beginning, Boston is not between Nick and Dan's heads. The camera angle that's chosen let's Boston stand outside of Nick and Dan's space. Already a hint that it's officially over. And later he's beside them as well. It's about Nick writing him out of his life. It's about Nick literally turning his back on Boston.

Just saw this take, and I wanted to know your thoughts. i feel like if ever there was a post to describe "bad faith" arguments, this would be it lol

I didn't read all of this because it hurt my head. I actually do not agree with the premise that Azula is incapable of kindness, but the person in the screenshots was replying to a post that tried to argue that Azula is actually a good person, and the only reason people consider her bad is due to protagonist-centered morality, which is 1) blatantly, ridiculously false, and 2) not how protagonist-centered morality actually works.

I'm not interested in the argument about whether Azula is inherently evil or incapable of redemption, because of course she isn't inherently evil and anyone is capable of redemption, but she is a sadist, and this is a problem that people cannot wash away with "well she was just following orders," and it kinda floors me that people would spout this kind of garbage and then claim that they know what they're talking about because they (allegedly) are from a colonized country or have themselves suffered abuse. I'm not saying those claims are not true but like. This is not the argument you should be making if you claim to understand colonialism or abuse. It just isn't. I'm not saying their life experience didn't happen, but just because you experienced something does not mean you always understand it, and these arguments do not speak of understanding. With abuse, in particular, a lot of people don't have the clarity to understand unless they've been through therapy, which is one of the reasons abuse victims who do not get help are at risk of becoming abusers. This very closely describes Azula, whose abuser encouraged her worst traits.

And like, the thing about colonialism is that it encourages and enables people who already have sadistic tendencies. Whether or not Azula was born with those or if they were instilled by Ozai is not an argument I am interested in, but he certainly encouraged them and that is one of the reasons she thrived under a colonialist regime. Zuko and Iroh also could have easily developed these tendencies, although we do see that even when they still believe in the FN, they do have much more of a tendency towards kindness. This is canon.

What makes the real difference, though, is that they stopped believing in and supporting colonialism, and Azula did not. They drew on and expanded upon the more empathetic sides of themselves and became changed people. That is the real difference between Zuko and Iroh vs Azula, and it makes all the difference.

And I'm absolutely not here for garbage takes about how Zuko and Iroh were not nice enough to Azula when she came to them for the express purpose of lying to and imprisoning them. If you really want to speak for victims of colonialism or abuse, you really need to stop with that very obvious victim-blaming argument and like, think before you type.

The last thing I will say is that it's funny that these people always paint Zuko as having an inferiority complex when Azula's is a mile wide and a major part of what brings about her downfall.

Shirogane's dream

I wanted to speculate a bit about Shirogane's dream shown to us in the Ice Scream Original (Round 2), since some of the moments shown will either be redone in the Ice Scream Remake or confirmed in it. And according to the old tradition, I write in advance: "Sorry for the quality", because some screenshots might not turn out in the best quality, but I tried to make them at least better than my previous such screenshots. Well, let's get started!

It all starts with showing the ceiling in one of the rooms of the Ice Cavern and our depressive wolf lying on the bench there. Personally, I would be very scared to be there simply because I would be constantly afraid of one of the icicles falling from the ceiling on me. At the same time, Shirogane can easily be in this pleace, and even more so lie and sleep on the bench there. The other one who was there was a bunny, and that's to arrange a GAME OVER player on the screen.

Next, we are shown the dream itself. It starts all this confusion Suno-san jumping into the middle of the white space like a bunny. At the same time, in Round 3 we will be shown that he can teleport, and also when showing his moving game sprite, we can see a movement that looks more like crawling, but not like a jump. I don't know if this snowman is really capable of moving in as many as 3 distinct ways, or if Suno-san's jumping in this dream is just Shiro's own fantasy.

Note that in Shirogane's dream, squid tentacles appear, a flower dancing at night in the Peraco house, bunnies, and Nekoyama. This tells us that Shiro saw/met all of these things/characters, which is confirmed by the following: 1) In the Remake, Shirogane lies on the snow and sees a Squid, whose tentacles stick out of the water surface; 2) A similar flower stands next to the television in Peraco's house, but it differs from the flower shown in the dream in the absence of a leaf and a thinner stem; 3) There is no need to talk much about bunnies - they can often be seen on Iceberg Isle (as well as Rock running from anger, probably…); 4) And finally, Nekoyama - our cameo from Wadanohara and the Great Blue Sea. He can be found in Round 2 delivering cigarettes to Orca. As a result, it can be assumed that the rest of what is shown is also familiar to Shirogane. And this makes me wary:

if our wolf could see a simple fish in the same fishing buckets of Rock, then to consider the moon-fish or those white squids, he would have to dive straight into the water, most likely;

Tori-san can be either a simple easter egg (remember Tori-san's toy in Rocma's house), or a frozen Tori-san that Shirogane once saw;

has Shiro met the Mogekoels? I hope they didn't try to hit him with their arrows while doing so…

the head of a huge white "something" with an outstretched tongue raises many questions in me. Is there a possibility that this is the head of a huge turtle, on which a huge glacier has frozen and, thus, having formed Iceberg Isle, it swims in the northern latitudes, preventing the isle from melting and the inhabitants on its back from dying?

It doesn't surprise me that the phrase "Bad doggy" and Suno-san appear here. I'm more surprise why he uses the parachute of Mogekov Hashasky and… bees on a background.

If there are good Japanese translators with good eyesight, please translate the symbols on the background. I will be very grateful for this. ( v _ v )

Here you can see Peraco's name-calling towards Shiro. I don't know what else to add here.

What did I ever even do? It is this question that our wolf asks when once again the hot-tempered penguin, familiar to all of us, takes out his frustration or anger on him.

Fall - it is unclear only, emotional and/or physical.

Shirogane managed to be a wolf, and a dog, and a bunny, and even a caterpillar in his and others' fantasies. It remains only him managed to be happy in real and then his life was a success! =D

It is noteworthy that the snowman appears here only on the red background. Neither he nor Shiro can be seen on the black background. Because of this, I get the impression (or maybe it's an attempt to convey the impression of the wolf himself) that the talking pissed snow is stalking him and/or watching him quite often…

That's it for now. Yeah, there are some monologues to Shirogane that were later moved to Watch 1 of the Remake, but I want to give them time in a separate post. I always wonder if people get the joke in the episode title? There's a famous book about writing scripts called Save the Cat. I kind of assume at least one person in the writer's room for She-Ra has actually read it.

(Like a Time Lord but WAY creepier)

"Not since I faced your ancestors, and crushed their once-mighty empire beneath my heel. You call them the First Ones. And you are one of them, are you not, Adora?"

Meanwhile Entrapta thinks she's spotted her boyfriend

BAHAHAH oh right that's how this guy starts. Anyway this poor clone is panicking because the jolt removed him from the hive mind

he starts SOBBING. "how will Horde Prime see my thoughts?? how will he know I am faithful???"

but then:

Entrapta: "Can you open this door?" He does Entrapta makes a happy little squeaky noise

Entrapta: "But we broke him! We're responsible for him now. Pluuuus, he can open doors!"

He says he'll take them to the server room, and Bow gives him his nickname of "Wrong Hordak" lolol

Glimmer went back to her old cell, and Catra's not there

And that's when Glimmer realizes their little earbud comms aren't working

Horde Prime: "I thought the First Ones were all gone, but clearly...some faction remains. That race of tyrants...abandoned you on a forgotten planet in a shadow dimension. They made you their weapon, their...She-Ra."

I mean, it sounds bad when you say it that way (because it is, actually)

Adora: "I don't fight for the First Ones. I fight for my home, for myself, and for my friends. Now for the last time, where is Catra?"

oh, god

Horde Prime: "As she would've said, 'You are so very predictable.'"

I knew this was coming, I knew it was this episode, and it still makes me want to crawl out of my own skin

Horde Prime: "I have made her anew. I saw her mind...so ensnared in grief and rage and pain...and I brought her to the light."

(okay but if he saw into her mind did he see all the times Catra thought about kissing and/or having sex lol)

Adora's absolute horror here is so relatable

Adora: "Catra, you have to fight it!" Catra: "My place is with Horde Prime, Adora. I don't want to leave." Horde Prime: "Tell her what I've done for you." Catra: "Prime has given me peace. Something you could never do."

"But he has made it whole again."

"I'm happy here. You could be happy, too."

(It's genuinely hard to rewind this to get decent screenshots because hearing/seeing Catra act all weird with the chip is just SO UNCOMFORTABLE)

And there we see it--the first hint that Catra is actually being actively tortured and forced to say/do this shit like some kind of sentient puppet, having to experience her own body doing/saying these things without her permission. Her eyes even keep twitching.

Horde Prime: "I will give her to you, if...you want her... But first, you must do something for me. You...will give me She-Ra." Adora: "Never." Horde Prime: "Very well."

He snaps his fingers and everyones in-ear comms shriek with static and electricity

(okay I gotta stop just copy/pasting the script)

He squeezes poor Catra's neck and for a second her eyes go back to normal, she looks at Adora, and then they start glowing again. Adora notices!!

aaagh look at poor Catra

but yeah Adora can't bring out She-Ra on command right now (and he knew that)

OH SHIT THAT'S RIGHT oh god oh fuck

okay so Glimmer's in the trophy room thing and she kicks the ass of a couple of clones, that's cool

Aeron, she/her mephistopheles tiefling rogue (thief) bard (subclass not unlocked yet) urchin chaotic neutral romancing Astarion tragically separated from her large family as a small child, swept away by the bustling crowds of the marketplace; she has since scraped together a living in whatever way she could. taking on odd jobs from anyone who would hire her eventually led to shadier and shadier business, until she found herself smuggling drugs and stolen goods and trading her body in exchange for shelter, information, and cash when she needed to.

Vesper, he/him seldarine drow druid (circle of spores) bard (college of swords) durge chaotic good romancing Gale (multiplayer with @talfrynn's Zevan) struggling to piece together his past, Vesper has no idea where he's come from, how he got here, or who he even really is; what he does know is that the dark thoughts and desires that plague him (and uncontrollable violent actions that seem to come from them on occasion) are not- CANNOT be a part of who he is.

"Ceri", she/him mephistopheles tiefling sorcerer (draconic bloodline - blue) charlatan neutral evil (multiplayer with @sorcedin's Shishko) bearing a striking resemblance to a famous musician known as Ceri, this conwoman has spent her adult life using that resemblance to her advantage. by fooling people into thinking she IS the real Ceri (simply out of her typical silvery stage makeup), she's found herself capable of scamming folks into buying overpriced forgeries of autographs, or simply giving her almost anything she asks for. encouraged by a circle of criminals she's unfortunately fallen in with, she's kept the lie up so long that she's not sure whether or not the real her is still in there somewhere.

Fluttershy, she/her asmodeus tiefling druid (circle of the moon) outlander true neutral romancing Wyll (would be in a polycule with Karlach and Astarion if there was a functional way to do this in the game) still working on it give me a bit ok. she turns into bear

Hyacinth, they/them mephistopheles tiefling warlock (archfey) durge lawful evil probably gonna restart this file...was originally Very Awful but i think i'm gonna dial it back to just being pretty rude and being driven by curiosity and a desire for information and entertainment. sometimes they do bad things, sometimes they do good things; it's entirely dependent on what they think will have the most fun results, or give them the most information.

8. There should be more of this type of fic/art…

I was going to give a general answer of "clones," but I have to say in all seriousness, we need to see more fat characters. There aren't a lot in Star Wars, but it doesn't feel great to see most of those few fat characters being a bad stereotype. I'd say Shep is the first character who is bigger and is just portrayed as a person which should not be a breath of fresh air but it is.

The number of fics I've read with descriptions of readers who are clearly thin despite supposedly being a stand in for anyone, it just kind of sucks. I know not everyone is going to know how to write fat characters because the author is thin and just want to write what they know, but then say reader or your OC is thin in an author's note or take the time to read through one of several posts about what phrasing to avoid when you want to be inclusive. I swear if I read about one more woman with a dress that hugged her curves perfectly, I'm gonna hurl myself into the sun. (The moment I read a line like this, I stop reading.) This comes off as such a throwaway statement and I think it's well-meaning, but there are better ways to describe bodies. "Curves" is so very often used to describe fat people by people who think being fat is bad. Stop doing this. Did your character feel smart? Pretty? Did they take your favorite character’s breath away? Say that instead.

And art with plus size OCs? We need more of it. BTW people can find fat people attractive. Give them the glam spread they deserve. Fat people are people. We can be just as smart and capable as anyone. We aren't just a punchline. My fat lady OCs are just as wanted as anyone else and I gave them that even though most people like me are told they're never enough. There's room for all kinds of people in Star Wars.

20. Could anyone have fixed Anakin?

Fixed? Well that word is past tense so it implies helping Anakin break cycles after falling but before the events of Return of the Jedi. And then I think no one could really fix him. But, I think the tragedy is if it could have been prevented. It would take a village. Palpatine would have to be checked and stopped, Anakin wanting love and choosing Padme really set him up to be secretive and Palpatine likes people who keep secrets because it's easier to manipulate people that way. So the Jedi could have helped if they hadn't created circumstances where Anakin had to hide his relationship. Anakin needed more support than he got and if he had that support he might not have fallen. Once he's fallen though, Obi-Wan and Ahsoka couldn't save him. Padme couldn't either. Once that was set in motion I really think he just had to find his way. Anakin was stuck in a cycle of bounded choice (see my pinned post).

25. What’s your opinion on modern AUs? What makes a good one?

They can be good. I think as long as the characters are still recognizable, modern AUs can be really interesting. Sometimes they feel forced because people try to make a one-to-one connection between the source material and our world and I actually think those can be harder to read because they're trying too hard. It's an AU. As long as the writing is good, have fun.

Also, I am comfortable answering all your questions: I was the one who created that ask game after all! I'm also the kind of person that finds answering nosy questions entertaining. The answers will be under the cut!

Quit: How long do you think it would take for you to “move on” from your darling if necessary? Would you be capable of moving on?

Ah, I don't know if I am capable of moving on from my darling. Seeing that it has been around six months since we broke up and my feelings haven't dissipated no matter how hard I try, it looks like it will linger for quite some time. I never felt remotely close to how I feel for her for anyone else before, so I don't have any prior experience to base it off of, timeline-wise.

Cope: How do you handle your more unhealthy intrusive thoughts or urges?

Well for starters, this blog is a good means to vent, and I also write for myself outside of that. I think distractions are the most helpful for me though, sometimes throwing myself into passion projects is enough to prevent my brain from spiraling too much. I also personally find replacing certain unhealthy urges with slightly healthier ones that achieve a similar feeling effective. To be honest, I am not very good at the coping part, and I mainly tend to bottle those thoughts and feelings in.

Regret: Do you ever feel guilty about being a yandere or loving differently from other people?

Yes, I often wish that I didn't love this way, or love at all for that matter. I feel bad for having many of the thoughts I have and some of the actions I have taken. I want to be a healthy partner/person, but I also will likely never feel completely satisfied with just that. It’s honestly kind of painful.

Stigma: What do you think brought about this side of you (childhood, mental illness, personality traits etc)?

I do enjoy psychoanalysis! Let’s see, I suppose it’s a lot of things. My parents are not that affectionate, and for the most part, neither am I (hence my username, the “kuu” is for kuudere). I honestly thought I was ace/aro until I met my darling when I was in high school, so her being the first and only person that made me feel that way made me quite attached. I may not be naturally affectionate with others, but I quickly learned that I am very, very affectionate and “simpy” for my beloved. I think I naturally love stronger than the average person in part because it is so difficult for me to do so.

Mental illness likely plays a large part as well, although I have never had a formal therapist to diagnose me with anything. My darling is severely depressed, so I developed a separation anxiety with her among other things from her attempts and trips to the psych ward. I am also an eldest child and naturally quite protective and nurturing, and I feel that a lot of my feelings first and foremost involve a need to protect, please, and take care of her (without anything or anyone interfering). My feelings for her are complicated, and I’m sure there are many factors that contributed to them that I am not aware of.

Exposed: Are you honest with your darling about your feelings or the true extent of them? Does anyone else know?

I have recently made my darling aware of my current romantic feelings for her (semi-unwillingly, it was a bit of a mess that I won’t get into), but she does not and will never know the true extent of how intense/obsessed/possessive/etc. I am. She does know that I have those tendencies though, and I asked for her consent to do some things like take thousands of screenshots of her on video calls while we were together. No one else in real life knows about it, but I suppose at least 100 followers on here are privy to my depravity!

So out of nowhere I was tagged and quoted by a SR shipper for a blog of mine posted in August of last year. Talk about throwback but, hey, gotta appreciate that level of snooping. 😉

Back in the day I actually used to encourage discourse amongst Inuyasha fans- both shippers and antis alike- but I've since realized that it's a lost cause. But for you, @feministmetalgreymon , I'll grant this exception. Just 'cause it's been a while so why the hell not. haha

I want to assure you, however, that nothing you say will ever convince me that Sesshomaru and Rin are meant to be together romantically or that the story intended it so. Nor will you find any validation here. You can ship them for all I care, but please for all that is good and holy while I have your attention try- I mean really try- to understand why it is so many of us Inuyasha fans are so against this pairing in the first place (newsflash: it's not about ship wars), and why we believe a romance between the two of them is completely and utterly out of character.

For those of you interested in reading this, the blog of mine in question that the above shipper mentions in their counter-argument is here for reference. It's titled "Jaken = Rin's Dad?" I'm going to try and keep this short, but I'm also making no such promises. After all, I'm not exactly known for my brevity. haha Now let's get crackin'!

Like you, feministmetalgreymon, did for your recent blog here where you took screenshots of mine to address certain parts, I will be doing the same and dissecting yours accordingly.

I worked with kids for many years as a teacher, and many people in my family have too or still do. Two of them happen to be just over 5 feet which is quite short for the average adult woman living here. I've also worked alongside many a women of short stature, and never did I hear any of them complaining of issues with their students having difficulty differentiating them from their own peers just because they were short as well. I'm sorry but that's just ridiculous. Kids are quite smart and pick up on a lot more than you seem to give them credit for. Height is not the only characteristic they look at to determine who's an adult and who's not, and it's foolish to suggest otherwise. So unless you're a babysitter who's still in their teens and/or who has very childlike features or behavior then I'm afraid what you're getting at is total hogwash. This is just another example of how you shippers offer nothing of real substance to your reasoning, it's only ever cherry-picking or strawmanning from you guys. Stop deflecting from the real issues please, because this certainly isn't one and only winds up being a complete waste of time for all parties involved.

Okay, calm down now. I wasn't insinuating that relationships between parents and children can't change over time in terms of how they get along. Of course that's possible, as all families experience their fair share of estrangement and abuse. What I was speaking about was in reference to the overall dynamic between the two. Because a bad mother or father can still be viewed as a parental figure to their child even if say they're not in said child's life anymore. Since Sesshomaru and Rin share a healthy bond- and just a friendly reminder that in my blog I even said that he doesn't have to necessarily be labeled her father but that a romantic relationship later would still be inappropriate- I didn't deem it necessary to address what you brought up. Plus, it kinda, umm, misses the point?? Please, let's stay on topic. And it's not captured in the screenshot, but stop acting like there isn't a small part of them that idolizes their parents at some point during childhood. Just like you mention later on how it's normal for kids to have innocent crushes on adults that they eventually grow out of? Well, guess what, the same concept applies here. Kids eventually learn that their parents are far from perfect and make mistakes too. Rin is so damn young in the OG series though that we never even get to see her reach that maturity level.

LOL! Alright, okay, so the "unbreakable bond" bit you're mentioning was actually me quoting you sessrinners. Did you not catch that? I literally spelled it out. *sigh* The whole point I was making is that shippers like yourself make hypocritical and contradictory statements all.the.goddamn.time. One moment you guys claim that Sesshomaru and Rin were essentially strangers and meant very little to each other, only to say in the same breath a few seconds later that they were destined to be together and their bond is like no other. I agree, their bond is special, but why must that mean they're going to fall in love?

That is the root of the matter here. Too many animes/mangas have romanticized this older adult man & young girl growing up falling in love trope that it's become way too normalized and widely accepted across the world- and yes, in some cultures more than others. Sadly, you lack the awareness to recognize how this all works. You know how we know that? When we see that you shippers are so desensitized to sexualized images of girls in the media that you share posts like this one below which *subtly* imply a future romance although one half of that pairing is still just a child in the pic and then try and pass it off as cute. That's like super fucking problematic and it scares me that you can't see that (or deny you do). 🤢

After all that's said and done, Sesshomaru leaving Rin in the village with Kaede is to me the strongest indicator more than pretty much anything else he's done for Rin that proves he is her adoptive father. It's so funny to me how you somehow see the exact opposite though. 🤔 What I think is happening is that you got yourself on some squeaky clean ass shipper goggles fresh out of your little echo chamber. Because I hate to tell you, but what you're fantasizing is what you want to see and not what's actually there on screen or was written into the story. I'm strictly talking about Inuyasha and the manga of course. [For the TL; DR version skip to the last paragraph.]

Parents looking after their kids is what parents are supposed to do. A good parent will do anything to keep their child safe and ensure they are cared for, so what he did for her by leaving her there was in her best interests clearly. Besides, as a babysitter, you more than most people should understand that parents aren't always able to be there for their kids so sometimes others gotta step in to help. Haven't you heard of the saying, "it takes a village to raise a child?" Which in Rin's case is literally true! 😂 Sometimes kids are even sent off to stay with grandparents and that's who raises them instead. Or maybe they have to temporarily live with an aunt or uncle because their single parent's job requires they work out of town 4-5 days of the week so they're hardly home. But that doesn't mean that the parents care or love their kids any less, and it's foolish to assume that Sesshomaru must have thought very little of Rin simply due to the fact that he made the decision to leave her in the village. Come on, y'all are acting like he abandoned her there!!

It's just given the circumstances Sesshomaru finally came to learn that Rin traveling with him was no longer safe. I also like to think it's because he wished for her to live a more normal life and to learn how to fully trust humans again. Plus, continuing to travel with him as young as she was would have proven dangerous and unwise. Now for you to know all this and still manage to turn his past actions towards her while she was just a child into a romantic gesture is what boggles my mind. Regardless of how you look at it, from my perspective or your own, Sesshomaru is in the wrong. Either he's a father figure who impregnates his daughter at the young age of approximately 14. OR he's this man she used to travel with who maybe isn't a father to her but who nonetheless basically rapes her since kids her age can't consent to sex with an adult. Idk about you but it sounds to me like nobody here wins with either scenario we're given. In other words, you should be just as mad as we are. If only one side didn't choose to forsake their morals they know we both have in common for the sake of a ship. Welp. 🤷‍♀️

I agree, incest is disgusting but that's not the only problem we have with this pairing. A romantic bond forming between Sesshomaru and Rin would also constitute as grooming.

You realize that over the years he visited her in the village that he brought her gifts too and essentially watched her grow up right before his very eyes, right? I mean, I know you do, but I really shouldn't have to explain further why pursuing a romantic/sexual relationship with each other is plain and simple wrong. And before you say it's not because he didn't have any malintent, please understand that considering their history and power dynamic up to then that yes this is still considered grooming even if Rin supposedly "wanted it" or "made the first move." Whether you consider him her father or not, as the adult who took on a role resembling that of a caretaker in her early life- a critical developmental time for a child- Sesshomaru is obligated to turn down any advances by Rin and most definitely should not initiate any himself. As the first close adult figure she's had in her life since her parents died, it's unfathomable to imagine how Sesshomaru could go through with taking advantage of this young girl who was under his care and supervision since they met. To think he could be capable of betraying that trust sickens me to the core.

This. Now THIS is how a parent/guardian or a similar adult caretaker (babysitter, teacher, etc.) talks to a child. And, in turn, this is how some young children talk to adults. You'd be insane and delusional to deny it! We see it in our everyday lives, do we not? From where else do you think our stories draw most of their inspiration? Yes, obviously these fictional universes have aspects of fantasy that don't exist in the real world, but so how then do you suppose we're able to relate to them? The reason for that being is because these stories are written by people for people, so naturally there are going to be real life aspects embedded throughout. Sure, a little escapism doesn't hurt as we don't need to take everything so seriously, but ultimately we all need to recognize that the messages in the stories we tell matter. Most stories possess a combination of both light and dark themes, but when it specifically comes to the latter we gotta be careful with how we tackle this in children's media since kids are far more impressionable.

So if at the center of a story we have two of the main protagonists whose mom is basically their same age and to top it off she knew their dad when she was just a girl and who just so happened to help raise her, wouldn't you say that's beyond fucked up or at the very least so fucking weird? Like why would we think it's even remotely okay for our children to watch this garbage?? Really think about it. Try and be objective for once and think about how it would sound explaining this storyline to an outsider who's never watched IY or HNY. Well, antis have tried this before many times and we always get the same reaction: Ewww!

Like I said earlier, if you wanna ship it then fine, but 1) please stop seeking our approval or trying to change our minds - your ship wish came true didn't it, so why do you need us to validate it? 2) even though it's not canon, respect that we don't support this sequel portraying pedophilia in a positive light. It's harmful af to not only allow but glorify the continuation of sexualized images of young girls everywhere. And I shouldn't have to say this, but just because this trope is popular as you say does not make it right. Lolicon themes in the media have been an issue forever and it needs to stop. Yes, even some people in Japan or "the East" would agree. Shocker!

We're pissed off and rightfully so because Yashahime's TV rating is 14, not to mention it airs at the prime time kids in Japan watch TV after getting home from school. That's Towa and Setsuna's age, true, but if Rin being the mom when she's like only a year older than them (please don't argue w/ me about the math- antis have so far been right every time with it) is straight-up disgusting and not something we should be supporting or endorsing. Rin's a whole ass child!! Please don't start with the "but times were different then so her having kids at 15 is acceptable" argument either, because we've already debunked that and every other single excuse you guys throw at us. Besides, how or why would you expect young viewers to know these historical "facts" anyway, especially if as you suggest fiction doesn't affect reality so what does it matter? Yet here we are, arguing over a fictional show in real life almost a year and a half into the "Sesshomaru fucks?" sequel being announced. My ass, your ass, hell all our asses fiction doesn't affect reality!

Look, I do apologize if the tone of this blog came off as snippy or condescending at times. I do not wish you any ill will, it's just I'm not really sure what you expected to get out of all this besides maybe getting on my nerves perhaps. haha A lot of you shippers have been desperately scrambling to interact with us, lurking in our tags, jumping onto our posts screaming canon and getting so defensive even though you sought us out first. We've been sticking to our tags, so how about you stay in your lane too. By the way since we're on the topic, have you seen Twitter or Reddit?! SR shippers there are the actual worst and many Inuyasha fans (not just antis) have complained of not feeling welcomed to engage in fandom spaces anymore. Shippers swarm them and scare them off simply because fans don't like your ship and refuse to accept it. It's pathetic, really. No one should ever be bullied or harassed just because they don't like something you might. We're all fans of Inuyasha, aren't we? So let's act like it. Yashahime on the other hand, you guys are welcome to that pungent heap of trash. Fans have a right to criticize it too, but if you like it then good for you, so keep on liking it and don't mind us.

I'm almost done, but real quick back to Jaken! Let's not forget about how the official Yashahime website- which came out after my blog, mind you- described Jaken. This translation isn't the best one available but it's the only version a fellow anti friend could track down. They do recall a better one done by a native Japanese speaker who was also an anti, and that member confirmed that Jaken is indeed called Rin's babysitter. So you see, I was right in my interpretation. In the original post I did compare Jaken to a brother, but after talking to others (some comments can be found under said post) I did acknowledge that he's more of a reluctant babysitter who's not related. And if he's not at least a brother to Rin, then he's definitely not her father.

At the end of the day, the creator Rumiko Takahashi has the final word. Which is guess what? Hogosha. 💖 Probably should've just started out with that and saved us all the trouble, huh? Good day/night to you.

"MODERN SONIC IS SUCH A SMUG ASSHOLE NOWADAYS!!1!11"

This is honestly one of the many criticisms I've seen across the series regarding the games' narrative quality... and I couldn't possibly disagree any more with that notion.

Is he actually?

Short Answer: No, not really.

I, someone who's been a Sonic fan for decades, would argue they didn't make Sonic nearly as much of an "asshole" as many fans would have you believe. I've played through pretty much all of the games from beginning-to-end (including spin-offs), and I'm just not seeing what (it feels like) everyone else is seeing.

Folks would like to have you believe that Sonic's characterization is among others as the most mangled thing in existence, portraying him as nothing more than an arrogant asshole who's an absolute pillock to just about everyone, his friends included... and that's just not the case (not from my perspective, at least). Hell, the entirety of Sonic Colours especially goes out of its way to showcase Sonic and Tails' close friendship (especially when either of them are in danger). That previous screenshot of Sonic with a mind-controlled Tails? This is Sonic's immediate reaction after the effects wear off:

What's more, I fail to see how Colors makes Sonic out to be a "smug asshole" when he's also resolving to free the other Wisps multiple times. Him cracking a few (admittedly eye-rolling) jokes here and there doesn't change that. Plot of the game, people.

And in the cutscenes after the semifinal boss, he straight-up congratulates Tails, and even reassures him that Yacker will be okay now that the generators have been shut down, and that the mind control cannon (as far as they're concerned) is no longer a problem as a result.

Okay, so no "smug asshole" behavior from Sonic in Colors, as he's very clearly still willing to do the right thing completely of his own volition with no ulterior motives. So, what about Sonic Generations?

...

Well... still no. Aside from a singular scene of Sonic holding Amy back with his hand (though, let's be honest, he's always done something akin to that in previous games as well), he's not portrayed as a jerk or an asshole in Generations either. While Generations' plot very much takes a backseat to the gameplay (which ISN'T a bad thing, contrary to popular belief), the plot still has Sonic more concerned with rescuing the others trapped in White Space rather than the present situation that's caused it to happen to begin with. As Sonic himself quite plainly says...

Well, if he seriously views rescuing the others from White Space to be a more pressing matter than simply being trapped in Exdeath's Wet Dream, then he must hate his Classic counterpart, or at the very least find his past self utterly annoying, right? Right?

Still no. If anything, Classic Sonic doesn't speak at all (whether that's a good or bad thing is up to you) and Modern Sonic has a sort of mentor/student relationship with the former, showing off how much more capable and versatile he will be in the future... not unlike his friendship with Tails in the Mega Drive games. Even when Classic Sonic attempts to perform an Air-Dash (and fails), Modern Sonic applauds the effort and reassures that he'll only get better and better, and that his future will continue being great.

Is this supposed to count as being smug? Teaching your younger/past self to be more capable? Kinda feels like we're just grasping at straws here. So, I'm not seeing what people call this "smug asshole" in neither Colors OR Generations.

So, what about Lost World? That game's plot is pretty subpar all around, and the fandom nowadays makes it out to be the most abominable thing in all of existence. So, what about that? That apparently must have Sonic's character at his absolute worst, to the point of not even being recognizable, right?

...

Still no. Even as admittedly subpar as Lost World's plot actually is (and that's honestly being generous), I still wouldn't call Sonic an asshole here either. That same concern for Tails' well-being from back in Colors (as well as the safety and well-being of his friends in general) is still here and accounted for, and if anything, it's amplified even further.

A bit of a tangent, but this is actually one aspect of Lost World's plot that I personally feel that Unleashed completely lacked in. In the latter, the Earth gets blown to pieces (again), and Sonic never even acknowledges that the situation is (at least partially) his fault. He just brushes it off, not to mention that the planet's inhabitants don't seem to give a shit either. Here, in Lost World, he actually admits that he's responsible for the predicament he and Tails are currently in. He knows he's fucked up, and now he has to fix it.

Sonic literally panicking and frantically trying to contact Amy (& Knuckles) twice to no avail when it seems like the pair are out-and-out dying just isn't what "smug assholes" do. And, in case you aren't sick of me bringing up Sonic's concern for Tails just yet, while the scene in question could've used MUCH more drafting, the fact that Sonic all but drops the snarkiness altogether before AND after he sees what's become of Tails towards the end of the game should already speak volumes.

So, this so-called "Worst Sonic Plot Ever" doesn't have Sonic acting like a pillock towards his friends; only towards villains, and they're the ones that actually deserve it. And so far, that seems to be the case for every game up to this point. And, look at that, it's actually how Sonic himself is pre-Colours as well, and-

...

Oh, that's right! We still have one more game! Sonic Forces. The most recent mainline game in this franchise. So, how much of an irredeemable pillock is Sonic in that game? The answer is...

Not at all. Forces' plot and gameplay definitely could've used some more time in the oven, but Sonic here is clearly willing to come to the aid of the Resistance as well. He's not bragging about it, he's not trying to hedgehog all the limelight; the only bits of snarky playfulness on display here is directed towards Infinite... who is, again, a villain who basically deserves it.

Even when he's being pulled into Null Space, a pocket-dimensional void, Sonic instead urges the Rookie to save themselves from it instead, knowing full well that they will be trapped along with him. Sonic's not playing up this "heroic sacrifice" bit for the sake of extra hero points that he can brag to his friends about (and neither is the Rookie).

Multiple times, Sonic himself has quite explicitly stated that he's able to overthrow Eggman and Infinite's rule over the world thanks to the Resistance; not taking credit for anything they've accomplished in the struggle.

All in all, you're free to dislike the modern titles as you wish. I just vehemently disagree with the notion that Sonic's character in the modern titles is this "asshole" or "pillock" folks make him out to be.

Sorry, I'm just not seeing it.

Allow me to spend the next few minutes rambling about why yall are stupid for hating Ice Juggler Cookie just because they're "rude"

Also since idk Ice Juggler's gender I'll be using they/them pronouns for them.

So the major complaint ive seen people have against Ice Juggler is the fact that they're very passive-aggressive and rude towards people. Not rude as in like Devil Cookie rude but like Karen-level sort of rude

I can understand why, some people just don't like rude cookies, some prefer more mellow cookies like Herb Cookie or depressed cookies like Sea Fairy Cookie

My issue however is that people are unjustifiably hating Ice Juggler for being rude without seeing WHY they are so rude.

And I'm here to insert that knowledge into your skulls with 2 simple bullet points

1. Their job in the circus

Jobs aren't always fun, the very definition of a job isn't to be fun. While people can have fun or are content with their job, some people don't exactly like it for various reasons; Too stressful, bad work enviromemt, low pay, etc.

Some people could argue that working in a circus, specifically as a clown, would be a very fun job. Other's however could argue that its bloody hell. While I can't say this for anyone, I can see why that other side would say that.

Picture yourself as Ice Juggler, you're suppose to go around on stage, rolling a ball around beneath your feet while you juggly at ice cream scoops while people laugh at you. You're struggling to try and keep the ball rolling, keep yourself juggling, and make sure you don't crash into anyone or anything, coupled by having to jump from ball to ball. One slip up, and people will either laugh at you or boo in disappointment, and if you get the latter, your boss won't take kindly to that. But if you get the former, you're probably still gonna be a bit pissed because people are laughing at you getting seriously hurt. I know the intent of clowns are to be comically injured, but Ice Juggler isnt a cartoon, theyre a living breathing cookie who can get hurt. And while it may not be so bad the first time, having it happen to you over and over again could probably chip away at your sanity.

And before you ask "Well, Ice Juggler can just get a different job if they don't like it!" You're still just be assuming shit simply by force glance. The circus could probably give them decent pay and they seem to be capable of doing their job right, so they may WANT to leave their job but they may NEED to keep it, either because Ice Juggling's the only good thing they're good at (duh its in the name) or because theyre need to money.

2. How they're treated at their work place

Even if they do passionately love juggling and rolling on balls, the way their boss, Choco Cup Cookie, treats them is just atrocious

An example being how Choco Cup Cookie tells Ice Juggler Cookie to shut up after judging an audition of someone, later saying "someone might hear you"

Publicity is one thing but the welfare and the freedom of your employee's speech is another, and this is clear evidence that Choco Cup neither cares or is ignorant about how Ice Juggler feels about shit.

Now some people may assume that Ice Juggler is being way too mean about the cookie's audition, but we dont exactly see what the cookie's audition was. It could have been atrocious, it could have been brilliant, we're never told this. We just know that Ice Juggler found it awful and Choco Cup found it "not so bad", which may hint at it actually being as awful as Ice Juggler implies but for now, again, its just speculation.

The point here is that Choco Cup isn't allowing Ice Juggler to voice their opinion/criticism, especially when theyre doing a task THAT GIVES THEM THAT OPTION. The cookie auditioning asked to be judged by Ice Juggler and Choco Cup, and Ice Juggler gave them their judgement, to which Choco Cup tried to shut them up for.

Aaand to make matters worse, Choco Cup's literally telling Ice Juggler that they're not allowed to express their emotions, which Choco Cup's clearly aware of, since it'll damage the circus' reputation.

Dunno about that but clearly that is a sign of some major fucking mental manipulation.

If you have to say that one's emotions will ruin your company, then honey, your company is already running straight towards hell

Especially when you have to physically shut them up. (For context for those who weren't around during this event (like me), its Banana Cookie's turn to audition and its implied that Choco Cup covered Ice Juggler's mouth giving the *URMPH*)

And before you assume that Ice Juggler is being a douche solely for being a douche

The cracks on leadership. My hypothetical scenario in Commander Anne for Sasha's arc

Commander Anne is giving us a lot to think about because we don't know if Sasha is going to appear on that episode or if she will on Sasha's angels and reunite with Anne at the most unexpected moment that I think it is at the end of that episode.

It could be that Sasha will make a cameo or will be mentioned in Commander Anne, so she is on a very important mission with some of the Wartwoodians far away from the village for a while and Grime has been left in charge to protect the townsfolk, that's why this episode is BEFORE Sasha's angels, even when I think the 'leak' of the title of that episode shown in Youtube was just a prank or something fake. Still, that Sasha is absent in Commander Anne while Anne processes the fact that her ex-friend has been protecting Wartwood and the implication of a genuine change of heart from Sasha sounds plausible enough for me and a good start for a cathartic and emotional third reunion between the two.

Beyond that, what is more, interesting is how Sasha will approach Anne being made leader of the resistance. We have seen just the tip of the iceberg of her barely-started redemption, the rest I bet it has been off-screen, and what we will see on Season 3B will be the third part of her progress and character arc.

If there is an option that is running in some people's minds is her giving up control and letting Anne be the leader after being told she was made leader of the resistance because, as I said, my hypothetical scenario is that Sasha is absent during Commander Anne and will make an appearance on Sasha's angels.

Now, while I see that as a huge step on Sasha's character development, I think there will be some complications on her giving up control. Not in the way that she will refuse because she thinks she is more capable than Anne and therefore won't listen or trust her to do things right but because of this scene:

“Don't put me in charge! ...Oh, sorry. I mean, y-you shouldn't trust me with the boat.”

I know, I know. This is Amphibia and I'm using a Steven Universe screenshot but let's look at Lapis' dialogue.

When Greg offered her to wear the captain's hat she interpreted it as being given the power to decide what to do. She not only has hydrokinesis but she's also on a boat, which means she would have been in total control of it if she had accepted the offer. That's what made her uncomfortable.

She has too much power but her emotions sometimes are explosive or overtake her rationality. She isn't someone who likes being in charge.

So what does that have to do with Sasha?

Easy, what if during the off-screen section of her redemption arc she started thinking that being the leader of the resistance was a bad idea? That she could be one single mistake close to ruining everything and putting everyone in danger? That there should be someone more capable and mature taking charge but because there wasn't one she had to fill those shoes?

And then Anne comes back and she doesn't have to 'play with fire' anymore AKA making important decisions.

It sounds ludicrous because we know Sasha has the capability of long-term planning, she is sly, intelligent, and confident. However, let's not forget this

Of course, I would've liked if in Turning Point Sasha had shown more emotion, guilt, and anguish concerning her failure of protecting Marcy from Andrias, but the point is the same: every time she's in charge or is the co-leader in a plan, something bad happens and someone gets hurt, not only she.

Obviously, the situation is more complicated because despite her qualities for being a good leader what she is beginning to learn is listening to others, showing more compassion, and trusting in people instead of being blinded by her ego and selfishness. These traits would've made the difference in any of the three scenarios, and that's why I think Sasha won't be happy if some people in Wartwood want her to keep being the leader if Anne's performance is nothing but disastrous.

What's more contrasting between her and Anne taking charge of the resistance is that while Anne has so much to lose: her home, her parents, the Plantars, Wartwood, even Sasha and Marcy, Sasha, on the other hand, has little next to nothing. Like, yeah, she has Grime and Wartwood but the town is more connected to Anne and she is protecting just for her. We don't know almost anything about her home life and parents, and while her friendship with Anne has been cut off in True Colors, there is a lot of uncertainty and a lack of on-screen time with her friendship with Marcy.

So, in the end, it sounds more logical if Anne makes the important decisions because she can protect everything better and she has grown so much, meanwhile, Sasha can only help on the battlefield by taking orders.

But there is another what if that had been mentioned before, what if Anne's performance is not good and Sasha has to be the leader again?

Sasha had said that no matter what she would protect Wartwood but what if she fears her leadership, in her opinion, is not the best choice compared to Anne?

And let's not forget that there is a LOT at stake, therefore making mistakes, arguing, being focused on unimportant stuff, being divided by anger and grudges won't be allowed. Sasha might be reminded, if she tries to give a suggestion, that her past actions didn't help keep the trio together but torn them apart, that whatever decision she may have in mind could be more harmful than helpful and just give Anne another reason to put her on the sidelines or even banish her, believing she is trying to control everything and everyone again.

But doesn't that sound too crazy in Sasha's character? Well, let's not forget that Reunion, The Warhammer, and True Colors were the episodes where the consequences of her actions started to get through her even if slightly and slowly until she decided to do good for once on Turning Point. But just because you are doing better against your past unhealthy behavior it doesn't mean that you cannot fall into old habits again and if that happens knowing there is a war to win and a tyrant to defeat, so much could be jeopardized. And this is a risk Sasha won't take.
