I feel like if she's telling me so strongly to stay away from it, I don't trust her anymore.

it’s sad as (no pun intended) hell that hazbin hotel actually has potential to be a good series if it got improved in the writing and characters designs but sadly viv is stuck in 2013 and doesn’t want to change her characters and humor so everything that sounds interesting gets ruined by unnecessary cursed words and bad writing

It's really depressing that the only real Jedi centric and Jedi positive show in existence is written for preschoolers, while many of the more "adult" shows are edgy and about morally ambiguous or straight-up evil characters. As if lessons about being kind and selfless are somehow not important or relevant to adults just as much if not more than they are to children.

It feels like characters who are unambiguously good are seen as only enjoyable by the very young and adult viewers will only actually appreciate characters who are cruel and selfish (and the requisite "tragic backstory" that always goes with it to help excuse their cruel and selfish choices).

It's just really sad and disappointing.

my most toxic trait as an artist who is also primarily an instrumental musician is that it bothers me immensely when people draw incorrectly held instruments. if i had infinite time and energy i would love to make a reference image pack of correctly held musical instruments

doing the equivalent of gripping something intensely hard then forcing myself to let it go every time i see something about the stupid fandom drama i got pulled into earlier this year

im always shocked and flattered when people say they think the things i say are smart or interesting. like. me? my dumb ass? for realsies? huh? wowie!

this is the vegas anon again!! i get u fr like i used to write a lot and was worried if people only liked it for the fandom but i can say with certainty like just ur stories themselves r so good. whenever i read your writing my heart hurts for two reasons: the first being that i will never be able to write as beautifully as you, and the second being that your writing isn't happening to me irl. and i love pedro by all means but if fics like "do you want me cyarika" and tcoy switched pedro's characters w/ a completely original character from u i'd still be frothing at the mouth. also this isnt even TALKING about your formatting like hello 😭😭 i always hated setting up links or making my post aesthetically pleasing + adding notes/titles/quotes so im genuinely in love with how you format everything it's just so aesthetically pleasing and recognizable like yes!! this is theidiotwhowritesthings so it must be good!!

As someone who has the dream to one day publish something original, to hear that you'd read some of my stuff sans Pedro Pascal character is making me unwell in the best kind of way.

AND TO HAVE MY FORMATTING APPRECIATED??? It's so much extra work to do the title and the quotes and the stuff to make it pretty and sometimes I hate it (especially when I see someone else's post and their aesthetic is so much prettier than mine😭) It just makes me so stupid happy that only do you like my posts' aesthetic but it's recognizable enough to know it's mine. Again, i'm sobbing.

erruh ill try my best ta give advice (although i still feel like i have a lot ta learn) i wrote more than i thought i would so its under the cut ^v^!

ermm i mean im entirely self taught (if it wasnt obvious) so my artist journey has basically been me looking at other artists artstyles, methods of coloring and drawing, etc. and adapting them in my art when i see something i really like.

i used ta watch a lot of speedpaint videos as a kid and those are honestly really helpful for figuring out how artists do specific things. for example: when i was 14 i watched a speedpaint done by an artist i looked upta and noted their use of layer settings ta make certain colors pop and i have used their method ever since! dont be afraid ta experiment and draw inspiration :]

i have watched a lot of videos and followed tutorials on how ta do specific things such as anatomy (lots and lots of anatomy...), shading, perspective, etc. although i mostly look at those when things dont quite look right and i wanna improve. i dont really have any specific recs for tutorials? for me tutorials can be a hit or miss (seems like a 10/90 hit or miss instead of 50/50 sometimes ._.). my most basic advice is ta break things down inta shapes! cubes are the easiest shape for me ta understand so breaking things down like that has helped me a lot! ALSO REFERENCES. USE REFERENCES THEY HELP SOOOO MUCH FORREAL ONG BRAH. DONT BE AFRAID TA TRACE OVER SOMETHING TA FIGURE OUT THE SHAPES IF YOU CANT JUST SEE EM AND PULL EM OUT (but also only do this for practice, dont trace over things and then post em and say they're yours thats theft) AND LOOK AT LIGHTING TOO AND HOW IT TOUCHES CERTAIN OBJECTS DO SOME STUDIES ITS GOOD FOR YA (<- sucks at doing studies b/c he gets bored of doing them really easily)

a note about sketching: something i know a lot of beginners struggle w/is using too many strokes. it happens when you're unsure of a specific thing you're drawing and i do happen ta fall inta this from time ta time, although i try not 2 as much as possible. an example of me on a good sketching day is this rabbittrap i drew:

i use very few strokes here! and am not afraid ta overshoot my lines. compare it ta this drawing i did months ago:

and you can tell i was having trouble in certain parts b/c of the heavy amount of strokes i used. it takes practice but sketching w/out using as many strokes is a surefire way ta make your art seem more dynamic and less ridged and also save time! remember, you dont hafta detail out every last thing in your initial sketch. save that for later!
