Yakuza Questionnaire

Note: A lot of this is my personal opinion and interpretation. For the actual emphasis on the lore and such, there's plenty of information to be had.

Ahh the tattoo's. The irezumi really make up the yakuza series in such a special way. Each one is so beautifully crafted and perfectly fitting to all the characters. You know how much thought Horitomo and the developers put into them and while it's a bit of a shame that the more modern stories don't feature them as much for the changing times (and of course, subsequently the end of the yakuza in canon) they'll always hold such a special place in my heart.

If you ever look up the mythology and the symbolism that is integrated into them, you could spend some hours just really appreciating it.

As a quick note, characters who's tattoos I wish we got to see include:

Kashiwagi, Sera, Kazama, Nishitani, Sagawa.

I am so curious about them, WHAT DO THEY HAVE.

Arakawa Masumi from yakuza 7 too I KNOW he has something amazing and we have been denied.

Something else I've always also liked is how certain tattoo's in the series exist in conflict with other characters. *Like the symbolism between Kiryu and Mine's tattoo's, in that a kirin is legendarily one of the only beings that can defeat a dragon, etc*.

Kiryu Kazuma: The Silver Dragon

Kiryu's irezumi is famous for good reason. It's stunning. Intricate, detailed, intense. The longer you look into this dragon's eyes, scales, pose, the more you seem to see happening. Protective, conflicted, strong, perhaps too stubborn. Maybe prideful, but with good intentions.

There's an element of eternal conflict in Kiryu's tattoo to me. He might rest, but this roaring dragon will almost never truly be 100% at peace, made to fight and challenge as it seems to be. But never will it let it's bearer go.

Majima Goro: The Hannya

Majima probably has second most famous irezumi in series, and again, for good reason. His Hannya always seems both as though they are shielding him from the world with aggression and fear, but carefully guarding the lines of softer (but no less dangerous, after all-they got thorns) roses and clouds. Dramatic and strong, his irezumi carefully cloaks his body and presents the image he wants to the world with little question, all while safe guarding what tenderness lies beneath that screaming ruthlessness.

Saejima Taiga: The Tiger

I love tiger man having a tiger tattoo but Saejima really does at times seem like a tiger personified. A cuddly side, a ferocious protective side. Strong, but not overbearing. Keeping what is safe and important close and quieter, gentler and more sensitive beneath. Tigers, like all cats are sharp claws and biting fangs, but have that nice, softer underside you can get at if they'll let you. And maybe, if you're lucky, something that will shield and hold you as well.

Sort of in a 'keep you warm in the winter' way, almost. Metaphorically, and less so.

Goda Ryuji: The Golden Dragon

Honestly, that side story in Kiwami 2 sums up how good Ryuji's tattoo is better than I ever could. Strong, furious, bright and angry. You know exactly what you're getting from the man bearing this tattoo.

Or..do you?

Kasuga Ichiban: The Dragon Fish

I ADORE Ichiban's mid-transformation dragon fish. The legendary koi that has almost gotten to it's peak. So close, but just not yet finished undergoing the challenges set before it to achieve that. In transition, having this permanently etched upon his skin makes me think of a character, a person who is always going to have some kind of mountain to climb, but most probably will come out on top. Maybe with more scars than he recalls, but perhaps that is part of the process.

There's an optimism to Ichiban's tattoo in it's intensity that I really like.

Mine Yoshitaka: The Kirin: The Guardian

When I read about the kirin, and how it only shows up in the presence of someone it feels worthy of protecting-as well as being the one of the only creatures capable of defeating a dragon, I needed a moment.

It seemed so utterly on the nose and perfect that I just..had to sit. But it makes such sense. Mine is furiously devoted to one person, and one person only. And he will go through hell and high water to defend that person. Pretty fitting for a guardian. An angry, powerful guardian.

Dojima Daigo: Fyo Myoo: Acala, (Immovable Wisdom King)

We can at times maybe question just how wise Daigo is, but I think he has a perfectly good head on his shoulders that at times is lead astray by a more stubborn, headstrong nature (and general pettiness and sassiness) with ultimately good intentions.

(I am saying I wish Daigo could have been as sassy and catty as chairman as we know he's capable of). Bearing the image of a king, one that is poised as both stubborn and wise, holding a green dragon coiled about the raised sword) seems appropriate.

Interestingly, I do believe it's hinted in yakuza 5 that Daigo is pretty booksmart, and we know he can be very cunning when he's allowed that chance (again yakuza five) and has good leadership skills present.

Katsuya Naoki: The Crane

I'll be honest here, I'm not at all familiar with the mythology for Katsuya's but I'm a bird man and I love how pretty his is.

And he gets one of the best (if weird) tattoo reveals in series.

Kuze Daisaku: Enma: Judge and Ruler of Hell

Feels pretty self-explanatory, badass and perfect.

Shimabukuro Rikiya: The Okinawa Viper

Listening to Rikiya talk about his gorgeous viper is pretty much all I need to know it's incredible. And it's true. The amount of passion he holds about it and for it answers all this better, again than I ever could.

(And, like all of them it is just stunning).

And I'm including Aizawa's because I'll get in trouble if I don't.

@kulemii made this Yakuza Questionnaire that I really wanted to try out. So, here’s my answers. Spoilers for...pretty much the entire series

A.) Just Your Faves:

Favorite character(s)? Majima, Akiyama, Ichiban, Ryuji, and Kiryu are my top 5.

Favorite game(s)? Yakuza 0 and Like a Dragon

Favorite protagonist(s)? Majima in 0, Akiyama in 4 and 5, and Ichiban

Favorite antagonist(s)? Kuze, Awano, Nishiki, Ryuji, Mine, and Someya

Favorite final boss(es)? Nishiki, Ryuji, Mine, and Majima at the end of 5. Also Kuroiwa and Kuwana in the Judgement games if we’re counting that.

Favorite side character(s)? Hirose Family in 6 and best boy Rikiya in 3

Favorite substory(ies)? Disciple of the New Order in 0. You already know why.

Favorite song(s)? Two Dragons, A Scattered Eternal Moment, and DESTINY

Favorite game location(s)? Sotenbori and Yokohama

Favorite weapon(s)? I don’t even use them. Real Yakuza use their fists.

Favorite healing item(s)? I dunno, Stamina Royale?

Favorite tattoo(s)? I really like Majima’s, Kiryu’s, and I have a soft spot for Ichiban’s

Favorite minigame(s)? Disco Dancing in Yakuza 0 (Plz bring it back, RGG studios)

B.) Let’s Get Personal:

Which character do you relate to most and why? Ichiban, with his nerdiness, open personality, and overall just being a very friendly and supportive guy

What’s a scene that never fails to make you cry? The one with Nishiki holding Kiryu at gunpoint in 0.

Do you have a comfort character in the franchise? If so, who is it? Akiyama, cuz who doesn’t love a smooth talking, ass kicking (literally) slacker with more money than he knows what to do with?

Who would you like to post more about but you don’t? Why don’t you? Eh, sadly don’t have an answer that much. I don’t even post in general that often.

Which character do you think you would bump heads with most if you knew them in real life? Probably Saejima. Not literally, I’d die, but I feel like and I would have conflicting methods and personality.

Are there any characters that you wish you could be more like? Majima. He emits so much charisma and chaos.

C.) Let’s Be Subjective:

What was the most infuriating moment? I don’t have one in particular.

Which game had the worst plotline? Tied between 3 and 4. 3 for the Orphanage part being so damn slow, and 4 for rapid firing plot twists like it’s going out of style. Also not the biggest fan of 6′s.

Which character(s) deserved better? Shinada. C’mon, he’d fit right in with Ichiban’s crew.

Which character would you like to see as a protagonist? I would like to see a prequel for Ryuji or Mine as a main character, or perhaps an interquel with Nishiki’s events just before Kiwami after Kiryu was sent to jail.

Which character would you like to see as an antagonist? Couldn’t think up any.

If you could revive any deceased character, who would it be and why? Rikiya and Mine. The former for having great chemistry with Kiryu, the latter for having the potential for a solid redemption arc in later games. Also Ryuji because he’s hawt.

Which character should have died but didn’t? I couldn’t think up anything. I believe everyone I wanted to die in RRG games already has.

What was the worst plot twist? Probably the second Yamato in 6. Probably because...what purpose does it serve? And how did it even happen?

What was the most emotional scene in the series? I’m gonna go with Yakuza 6′s ending as a whole.

Which game do you think should get a remake? I feel like Yakuza 3 (the gameplay at least) could really benefit from a Kiwami-style remake. Wouldn’t mind seeing Kenzan or the Kurohyou games getting remade for the west, either.

Which character has the best taste in clothing? Who has the worst? Majima has the best. As for the worst...I dunno. The Obatarian in 0?

Whose voice do you enjoy hearing the most? Majima again. Nothing else brings a smile to my face quite like “Kiryu-chan!~”

Which sworn brothers worked best? Kiryu and Nishiki in 0.

What dynamic would you like to see more of? Not sure

Who has the most tragic story? I dunno. Quite a few of them had some really sad ones.

D.) Let’s Get Controversial:

Who’s the most overrated character? None that I can think up.

Who is the most underrated character? Shinada. Yeah, he’s a looser, but that’s part of his charm imo. And he got some solid character development

Who’s the most overpowered character? Kiryu, but not in a bad way

Which character(s) do you believe should have never existed in the first place? Eh, I’m not feeling that cruel.

Which character do you think isn’t portrayed well/ is misunderstood by the fandom? Shinada again, for the reason above

Do you think Kiryu was a good father figure to Haruka and Daigo? Yes. Maybe not great, but that’s part of what makes his story feel human if you know what I mean.

Who was the least engaging protagonist? Tanimura. Not bad, but I didn’t find him as engaging as Akiyama, Saejima, or even Shinada

Which character had the absolute worst moveset? Kiryu’s in 6. They took away so many of his Heat Actions and his actual combos are garbage.

Any hot takes? None off the top of my head

What’s something everyone loves that you hate? Not sure

E.) This or That?

Explore: Kamurocho or Sotenbori? Sotenbori

Bops: Haruka Sawamura, T-Set or Dream Line? Haruka

Return: Shinada or Tanimura? I’m sure you already know this, but Shinada

Eat: Ramen or Takoyaki? Ramen, because at least I know what that tastes like

Disband: Tojo or Omi? Both of them are fairly corrupt and sloppy organizations, but I’d pick Tojo. Our protagonists deserve better lives.

F.) Insert Yourself!

Who would you buy a drink? At which bar? Ichiban and his team at the Survive Bar.

Which restaurant would you like to try? Who would you treat to a meal? Kanrai looks really good. I’d probably buy Shinada something there.

Who are you inviting to karaoke? Majima. Need I explain more?

What is your Smile Burger order? The Teriyaki Smile Burger Set, only because Teriyaki Burgers are REALLY GOOD

What would the first 5 pictures in your camera roll be of? Majima, Akiyama, Ichiban, Ryuji, and Kiryu, in that order

Who would you challenge to a dance battle? Akiyama. I’d loose, but it’d be worth it.

Who are you fighting on the Millennium Tower rooftop? Kiryu. I’d get my ass kicked, but it’d be worth it.

Which Morning Glory orphan would you adopt? Mitsuo. He’s the only one I really remember

What are you most likely to get arrested for? Trying any of Majima’s heat actions and breaking every window on the block by accident.

Who would be your kyodai? Ichiban. I would say Kiryu, but everyone who's seen him has a kyodai has died at some point.

For all sections?! Anon you want to know my thoughts omg I'll try (tysm wow i feel honoured but i ramble alot, you fell into this one yourself)

A.5 Favorite final boss(es)?

So tbh i’m struggling because does this mean the actual fight when i’m crying trying to succeed in the boss fight or like as a whole, with the build up/actual fight/aftermath? If the latter, I’d say the most memorable was Y4/Y0 since Y4 was the first one I ever played out of the RGG games and I was so mad I had to do 4 fights but it was worth it for the aftermath. and Y0 because the build up to it was so intense, the fight mechanics were so much cooler and all around loved it.

If you mean the former? idk tbh I cry whenever I have to do a boss fight like i’m so afraid when I see an area that looks like a boss fight is going to happen and panic all throughout the fight.

B.5 Which character do you think you would bump heads with most if you knew them in real life?

this is really hard too cause ive had my gripe with a lot of them over the years you know 3am waking up going “did they really do this??” but I think it would be Kaoru, because she’s been missing for 14+ years and it doesn’t make sense

C.5 Which character would you like to see as an antagonist?

well now, maybe the poppo customer assistant because i know they don’t get paid enough to deal with someone’s head being shoved into the microwave everyday there isn’t much people left who would make sense to be an antagonist like sega got everybody in on this. Its been 10 mins thinking about this so i’ll put in my brother’s answer: “Kuze when he gets out of jail”

D.5 which character do you think isn't portrayed well/is misunderstood by the fandom?

uhhh...so i don’t think I read much into the fandom of Yakuza oddly, mainly just rambling in my own corner for years, only character I didn’t know much about until now was @majimemegoro ‘s fav guy Okudera so i guess he is unless you’ve been keeping up with okudera content (which you should)

E.5 Disband: Tojo or Omi?

F.5 What would be the first 5 pictures of your camera roll be of?

So I fully utilised the camera function in Y7 and its full of Zhao Tianyou, but it would probably of been a selfie of Kiryu, whenever i saw majima or i saw a nice location like some of the cafes at night

What was the most infuriating moment?

At the end of Kiwami 2 when they have that quicktime event. And if you don't hit that 2 second window YOU LOSE THE GAME!!! >:O

Absolutely infuriating. My brother had to redo that fight like three times and the last time it was pure chance, he just picked a button at random. XD And actually that whole fight was a little silly. Like Kiryu already beat Ryuji once but then they have to fight again some reason? You know, instead of leaving because there's A BOMB?? But they're like "well, we're shirtless and on the top of a high tower, so I guess we GOTTA fight" This happens every game and it's so frustrating haha. Do you really though? Do you REALLY have to fight? 🤣

Also, that whole substory with the girl who needs the visa? And Kiryu gets her pizza instead? Easily one of the funniest substories in the game. But the ending is atrocious. Girl, don't marry that creep! You can do better! Drives me bonkers.

Which game had the worst plotline?

They are all bad in their own special way <3

Which character(s) deserved better?

Too many. 😭 Lately I've been thinking about Nishikiyama's sister Yuko. It's just so sad that we never even get to see her. Was her life really that unimportant? She lived and she died so briefly, and we never even saw her. What was the point of it? Why was she even born? Surely it wasn't meaningless. I really want to write a fanfiction about her (though who knows if I'll get around to it). She deserves better than a few offhand mentions and a death offscreen.

Which character would you like to see as a protagonist?

Strawberry Maya (she's a minor character from one of Akiyama's substories in Yakuza 5 lol). The Strawberry Kingdom is real and it's time for her to save the day!

Um, but for a more serious answer, let's see… Daigo! What does he do all day? I think it would be fun to be the head of a criminal empire. :) The whole thing would be a management game or something. Let's give the poor man a chance to show his competence for once.

My brother was saying a while back that Jingu should get his own game, but I don't know about that haha. Does anybody like Jingu? My brother just liked his evil laugh I think. I'll give him that, the man does have a good evil laugh. I suppose a story about a man falling into corruption could be interesting. Apparently he WAS nice once right? Yeah, it could actually be an interesting story. But, I think, not one that absolutely needs be told through the medium of video games.

Which character would you like to see as an antagonist?

This one's tough… I'm not sure. Maybe Kazama. A prequel fic where he ends up as captain. You play as another guy fighting for the captain spot… but you lose! idk, can't really think of anything. 😅

If you could revive any deceased character, who would it be and why?

Rikiya. Why? Because it's Rikiya. It's self-evident.

Which character should have died but didn’t? (If that’s too harsh, who deserves to rot in prison?)

Hm… maybe Dojima Sohei? I mean, he is a character that famously dies. But he should have died in Yakuza 0. Obviously he COULDN'T for story reasons, but I feel like Majima should have killed him. Then maybe Nishiki wouldn't have died… :/

Also Kume from Yakuza 7 lol. The character we all love to hate. XD I don't necessarily want him to die, but it would definetely be cathartic to see him rot in prison haha. Hows THAT for a gray zone, loser! >:)

What was the worst plot twist?

The rubber bullets? XD

Okay that's too easy. There was also this twist in Yakuza 4 I found really funny where that cop guy turns out to actually be a yakuza all along lol. And then, what do you know, the yakuza guy actually turns out to have been a COP all along??!! No waaay! I thought that was hilarious. But also it's a terrible twist because it makes Akiyama look like SUCH an idiot. Like he was trusting in Arai this whole time, right? But it turns out he had a completely wrong idea of the man. Uggh, I nearly died of second-hand embarrassment. If I were him I could never recover. That's cringe man.

There is probably more that could be said about Yakuza 4's terrible twists but I'm afraid I have already forgotten all of them. I'm probably more familiar with Yakuza 5 which also has it's own terrible plottwists. What frustrates me about THOSE twists is that they COULD have been good if only they had been set up better. Like at the end yakuza 5, they're all like AHA! AIZAWA was the final villain all along!! Bet you didn't see THAT coming! And I'm like: NOO?? OF COURSE NOT?!!??? Sorry but there was literally no way anyone could have seen that coming. There were so many twists that they just added in for the sake of having a twist - like Majima is Mirei's wife?? It seriously feels like they just picked a name from a hat. But after thinking about it for some time I was like, yeah okay, I guess I could see it… It could be interesting. There is a lot of potential for an interesting story in those twists! They just failed to set them up properly which makes it extra frustrating. :/

Okay but my absolute favourite twist is still that scene in Yakuza 2 where Date is chasing after Kazuki and they go on to the roof and there are TWO Kazuki's??!! WHAaaAAaaAT?? And it turns out the original had been replaced FOR SEVERAL MONTHS by an identical korean body double??!! And it's never brought up again and barely has any impact on the plot. XD XD XD XD

I won't even bring up the scene with the castle.

What was the most emotional scene in the series?

I love Ichiban's speech at the end of Yakuza 7. Like he's really just speaking his heart out there. The tears in his eyes, the raw emotion in his voice…!! Oooh it was great. 🥺🥺 I wish someone had given a speech like that to Nishiki at the end of Yakuza 1.

Which game do you think should get a remake?

They should remake Yakuza 5 so the plot twists actually make sense…. 😩 And expand Okudera's section while we're at it haha 😂

Which character has the best taste in clothing? Who has the worst?

Shinada's shrimp outfit. the best AND the worst.

Whose voice do you enjoy hearing the most?

Hmm… I like Masato Arakawa's english voice. It's kinda hot…

Which sworn brothers worked best?

Kiryu and Nishikiyama I guess. Their bond actually makes sense, whereas I can't help but feel that Saejima was randomly inserted into yakuza 4 solely to give Majima a more interesting backstory. Like yeah okay, Majima has a sworn brother now. Cool. But why? How did they meet? I mean, that doesn't really matter, you can extrapolate things. But overall their relationship just doesn't… make sense to me? Like okay - in Yakuza 0 Majima claims to be doing everything he's doing for Saejima's sake and I just can't understand why!! Maybe I'm missing something but I just don't get it!! Saejima is on death row! He's not coming back?? (and sure, Saejima DOES, but… why would you expect that?) So why is Majima going to such great lengths to rejoin the yakuza? Maybe there's another reason but why bring up Saejima at all? And then in Yakuza 3 he just forgets about it all anyways and throws the yakuza to the wind to join a construction company. (there is something to be said for the historical ties between the construction industry and the yakuza but it's still a little odd). And I don't even get why they tortured Majima in the first place. Just because he wanted to help his brother? Again maybe I'm missing something here. But like, wouldn't it be considered honourable to want to help your sworn brother? They don't just swear these oaths for a joke right? And presumably they have to be approved by their bosses, right? These are highly formal and ritualistic things. So why should anybody be suprised when they act on their oaths? Obviously there must be deeper political machinations at play. So really, it's nothing to do with their ACTUAL relationship. I think on a personal level it's a nice little thing they've got going. I like their personal interactions and there's lots of interesting things that can be explored in their relationship. I just find some of the actions around it confusing. Kiryu and Nishiki make sense though. They grew up with each other. They know each other. Their relationship defines each other and it's central to the plot. In Yakuza 0 you see them actually hanging out and having fun and it's great and it makes the tragedy in the first game all the more poignant. 😭 Also as far as sworn brothers go I think that Watase and Aoyama are an interesting pair just because they seem to low-key hate each other. Underrated kyodai relationship.

What dynamic would you like to see more of?

I wish we could have seen more of Majima and Saejima and Yasuko. Like what's their deal. How did they meet? What did they do everyday? And why did Majima never talk to Yasuko again?

On a somewhat similar vein, I'd love to see more Saejima and Majima and Kiryu interactions. I think this could be really fascinating because Saejima and Kiryu both have these deep bonds with Majima, but without any real overlap. That is, they met Majima at very different periods of his life. So they have these two completely different versions of Majima, and by interacting they'd learn more about him. I want them to exchange embarrassing stories about Majima haha. XD And I'm curious which sort of version of himself Majima would present when he's with both of them. How would he negotiate himself between both of them?

Actually in general I'd just like to see more of Majima's dynamic with everybody. He's just such an interesting guy. I want to observe him beneath a microscope. How does anyone interact with him? How does he interact with Daigo? With the other Tojo Clan officers? Majima and Nishikiyama is also a dynamic that apparently doesn't seem to exist in the game but I think could have been interesting. They have a lot in common (sworn brothers in jail… is that a lot? haha) and I think that maybe a friendship between them could have really helped each other. I'm curious if they ever did interact in those 10 years Kiryu was in jail.

I'd also love to see more of the dynamics within the orphanage kids, I bet that could be really interesting. Nine kids are a lot! I bet there are unimaginable dramas taking place there everyday.

Who has the most tragic story?

Man, who doesn't have a tragic story? I feel like all you need to do for this question is list all the female characters. :// Even small tragedies are tragic in their own ways, I suppose the most tragic characters would be the ones who had miserable lives and miserable deaths. Someone like Yasuko, who endured a harsh and difficult life and then died without seeing any real resolution. Or even Reina, who spend so long pining over Nishikiyama only to die. Or Yuko, who lived and died offscreen. It's so sad….

Actually, Kiryu's story is pretty tragic too when you think about it. The poor man just never wins. I would be so emotionally devestated if I was him. He keeps trying to protect people and then they die. After a while you kinda gotta wonder if the problem is you. It's so weird because he's protrayed as this super cool protagonist who is this mega awesome legendary hero but like… has he really done anything to justify that? He's pretty much a failure. Poor Kiryu. :(( This whole series is a tragedy.

"El|den Ri|ng's UI doesn't show you where sidequests are! 0/10"

Did we... Did we suddenly choose to forget what made open-world sandbox games so hated in recent years!? It was the AAA trend of littering the entire map with icons for every single type of sidequest, combined with insisting the player to visit those spots and cross the quests off the list before letting them progress through the main storyline. Western AAA developers these days are paranoid as hell that you'll miss out on too many specks of dust in their carefully crafted world, so they will drag you kicking and screaming to see every single one until all of them are exhausted and there's nothing new to see anymore.

The reason that games like Breath of the Wild and the Yakuza series manage to stand out and receive rave reception even though they're one in many open-world sandboxes is that those games don't throw a hissy fit if you haven't gone to this or that place in the game world yet. More often than not, the game just points the player in a single direction, then keeps its hands off and lets them explore at their own pace. Japanese developers seem to be more comfortable with the idea that the player probably won't go over every single nook and cranny, and Elden Ring's design further reflects this in its lack of handholding.

Imagine being a kid visiting a museum. Most Western open-world sandbox games nowadays are like going there on a school trip supervised by an overbearing "no fun allowed" teacher who hands each student a list of questionnaires that goes over every single exhibit and expects you to fill them all in. So far, most Japanese open-world sandbox games have been more like a casual visit alongside at least one chill friend or family member: There are points of interest, sure, but you're not pressured into seeing every single exhibit.

id have her not die in the first place, so right after they think shes dead its revealed she had the foresight to wear a bullet proof vest or MAYBE we can have it both ways and the boys get to have a dramatic "avenge yasuko" moment like when they were praying at her grave but instead its by her hospital bed bc shes in a coma but she wakes up at the end of the game and theres a brief scene where taiga cries and hugs her.

☆ So, bear with me on this. Kitty: I don't know how recent this is, but I discovered that as she grows older, the more she mellows out. She isn't as chaotic as she is when she's younger. Not because she is growing old, but because she been through a lot. Even more mellow out, depending on the verses she is in. Like her original storyline or her Yakuza storyline.

Xiuying: A recent thing I discovered is she has taken on an elegant attitude. Due to her past, she had became both elegant and outgoing. She's more out there. Danuja: I realize she is more kind-hearted and often will offer people help, even when she barely knows them or if they have a troubling past.

Shido: As she grows older, the more she is showing people who she really is and not being boxed into a square. When I say that, I mean in a way that she told what to do and how to do it. It's like she was a machine being programmed to do certain stuff. With the discovery of being on her own, she is struggling to know who she really is.

I’ve written for 12 different fandoms, a lot are various FE games, but then i have a decent amount for Detroit: Become Human and some for Octopath Traveler and HLVRAI.

4) What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

I flip back and forth on this. It seems polite so I’ll try and do it, but at the same time I get a bit nervous about it and wonder if anyone even wants to get a response?

6) What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

I don’t write a lot of angsty fic, but probably either Waiting for You, or Stuck on You. Though they’re almost more bittersweet than angsty? Actually, I suppose Until Separation Ends might be a bit angsty at the end.

7) What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending?

I’m gonna go with 2+1=3 just for cutesy Taiju/Senku/Yuzuriha getting together shenanigans.

8) Do you write crossovers? If so what is the craziest one you've written?

I don’t, mostly because the ones I think of tend not to have anything solid enough for me to write about it. Right now I’ve been thinking about a Star Wars/Red vs Blue crossover where the reds and blues are actually all clone troopers. It’d probably take place during the prequels, with the usual red and blue shenaniganery happening in the background of major events.

9) Have you ever received hate on a fic?

I have not thankfully. At most I’ve gotten a comment or two where someone seemed displeased with my story choices, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it hate? I’m way too unknown to get hate I think.

10) Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Noooope. I’m way too embarrassed to write any kind of smut, and honestly am not really sure how to go about writing it in a way that’s engaging? Though I do have a smut-ish idea that is haunting me enough that I may take a stab at it.

11) Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Doubtful, but I wouldn’t know.

12) Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope.

13) Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yep, me and my bestie yamarik wrote the Yakuza 13 series together. It’s a modern AU where Sora and Vanitas are twins who get adopted by Organization 13, who are gangsters. (also, if you like the K anime, and especially Fushimi/Yata, check yamarik’s works out!)

14) What's your all time favourite ship?

My favorite ship flows and changes as I shift fandoms, so it never stays the same. Currently I’ve been focused on Cyrus/Therion (Octopath Traveler), but May/Steven (Pokemon) and Link/Zelda are sorta longstanding ones.

15) What's a WIP that you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

basically all of them? jk jk. Umm, probably my Sylvain&Miklan relationship study fic. It’s about the time Miklan abandons Sylvain on a mountain in the middle of winter. I wanted to explore the idea of Sylvain always looking up to Miklan, almost like a hero, even if he could be a jerk sometimes. And this moment, when he manages to get back home and sees everyone freaking out and Miklan angry that he made it back, is when Sylvain realizes that Miklan truly hates him. (I also wanted to like, drop bits in there where it shows Miklan does, in a way, care for Sylvain, but it’s overwhelmed by his hatred). But alas, i cannot seem to get myself to write the last few pages.

16) What are your writing strengths?

I would say having straightforward and easy to understand writing. Also I’m great at coming up with fun plots and ideas, but IDK how much that relates to writing specifically?

17) What are your writing weaknesses?

Dialogue, I feel like I have trouble keeping dialogue in character and that it tends to be too straightfoward in driving the plot. And when it is more casual, it just feels clunky.

18) What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

As long as there’s a translation at the end of the chapter it’s used in I’m fine. Unless there is vital information in there that a reader can’t pick up from the context around it.

19) What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Dengeki Daisy, an old-ish shoujo manga. Fun fact: This fic was also the first one for the fandom on ffnet.

20) What's your favourite fic you've written?

we found love in a garbage place A HLVRAI Coomer/Bubby fic.This fic I really focused on trying to portray Coomer the way I wanted to, and it worked out really well. (Also honorable mention to my OT fic Divine Enlightenment, because that came together delightfully.)

Soo...I found this through a discord channel, so let’s get to it shall we? (Prepare to read a long ass questionnaire)

Ayano Miasako. Not any explanation for that yet. Her mentor, Cleo calls her “Aya” Nickname in the mafia was “Silver”

2. When is their birthday? How old are they? What about their zodiac sign? (bonus point if you give their rising or even their birth/natal chart)

February 23 23-25. Capricorn

3. What is your MC’s gender? And what are their sexual/romantic preferences?

Female. Bisexual

4. What is your MC’s race? (human, demon, angel, other). If human, what are their nationality and origins?

Ayano’s human with a relation as Lilith’s descendant. Ayano’s half Japanese/Korean. She was born in Kyoto and was raised in the mafia.

5. Before coming to Devildom, what was their occupation? (job, studies...)

She was a mafioso until age 20, when she left. As a compensation for leaving, she has to wire the boss a certain amount of money per year. Ayano has a penthouse in Tokyo with her cat, Luci. She now works as a business tycoon, and wins most of her money from gambling and business investments. Ayano has a degree in anthropology and psychology

Ayano’s 5’6 (167cm). She’s around 140 lbs or 64kg. Ayano has a medium-large bust, an hourglass figure, and decent sized ass

Mammon, her protective Tsundere. Or Satan, the sly and intelligent bookworm trying to find his true self. She’s the ultimate tease to Mammon, knowing he likes her but is waiting for him to make a move. Mammon ends up flustered. She and Satan try to out-flirt each other with cheesy pickup lines and are often seen sitting next to each other in a loveseat, with tea and a good book. Satan calls her kitten, Ayano calls him her knight in shining armor (jokingly.) Mammon calls her “my lucky charm” Ayano calls him “blackjack,” but prefers calling all the boys by their names.

8 • Does your MC have any specific appearance features? (Scars, marks, anything else)

Ayano has various scars from her time in the mafia. She has 2 prominent stab wounds on her upper back from a betrayal. A yakuza tatoo on her hip. Plus a medium slash scar on her stomach. She got two black feathered wing tattoos on them to represent her freedom from the mafia. Ayano has heterochromatic eyes, left green, right purple. Usually wears a green contact over the purple to hide it. She also has distaichis (double lash layers). Jet black, waist length hair, pale-snow white skin. She usually sports this outfit

Wears a new type of nail art every 1-2 weeks depending on her mood. Lovesss jewelry

Depression and anxiety. Solution: do a Lucifer and does anything and everything to keep her mind occupied. She also makes friends with cheerful people

10 • How do you imagine your MC’s voice? Describe it.

Medium pitch, smooth, lulling voice. Has a slight new york accent even though she’s never been there (taught by Cleo) Mostly formal in public and swears every so often. (she refrains from doing so around Luke). Her singing voice is very powerful, has a wide range of pitches, and can enchant many.

11 • Does your MC have any tattoos or piercings? Just tell us more about it!

2 black wings on her stab wounds on her back. A yakuza tattoo on her hip. A normal piercing on both ears with a few helix piercings as well

12 • Describe their clothing style (if they have a favorite style). Do they have specific accessories?

Bonus question: how do they wear RAD uniform?

Ayano’s fashion style is fashionista, dark fashionista, occasionally gothic/elegant lolita. Loves leather and silver. She often wears a silver necklace gifted (stolen?) from her mentor, with her mother’s silver ring hanging from it. Fingerless, black leather gloves. Usually wears a ring on her right hand, middle finger. Ayano wears the RAD uniform properly, with a red tie, black jeggings, and thigh-high black boots.

13 • Is your MC able to use magic? If so, are they skilled? How do they learn? Were they able to use it before coming to Devildom?

Yes, when she came to the Devildom, Solomon decided to teach her to hone her skills. In the human world, when really pissed, light bulbs would burst in her presence. Ayano learns quickly, so yes, she became skilled in a small time frame. She’s fond of enchanted jewelry (because they are pretty and have practicality)

14 • Describe your MC’s parents (names, jobs, personalities). Do they have any siblings? What is their relationship with their family?

Ayano’s mother, Kyoko (japanese) was dead while Ayano was very young. Her real father is unknown besides the fact that he was a ‘korean bastard’ from her stepfather. She despises her step father (the feeling’s mutual) and ran away from home at age 13. Ayano has an older (3-4) brother. At age 20, they reconnected and have a good, stable relationship.

15 • How many language do they speak? Which ones?

Ayano can read/speak: Japanese, English, Korean, Latin, Spanish, and French

16 • What is their relationship with each brothers?

Lucifer - fondness, cautious, interest - mixed feelings. Ayano isn’t fond of some of his methods, but recognizes his change throughout the program. She thinks he cares a lot for his brothers and respects that. Lucifer is glad that Ayano is well-mannered and courteous, but is suspicious on her relations to Solomon. Although she’ll never admit it, sometimes Ayano goes into his study with tea and a light dessert for him.

Mammon - Affectionate, loving, warmth, protectiveness. Ayano thinks Mammon as someone very dear to her, so she is protective of him. He’s a possible love interest, and Ayano likes teasing and flirting when he shows his Tsundere side. Mammon thinks that she’s his lucky charm, and loves bringing her to the casino with him, to show off, and to brag. He always becomes flustered when she teases him, but revels in it.

Levi - Ayano thinks Levi should have more confidence, and is gentle with him. Playing rpg or strategy games with him is a pastime of Ayano’s, Levi is slightly scared of her skills in that aspect. Since Ayano can also mimic voices well, he begs her to make Ruri-chan impersonations and such.

Asmo - Fun, flirty, and thrilling. At first, Ayano thought he was a narcissistic, vain bastard. Which is partially true tbh. When she started doing various makeup looks, that’s when Asmo started to bond with her. The two love messing with various skincare, haircare, makeup, and fashion items. On Fridays, they have a self-care night, with Mammon occasionally bursting in.

Satan- Was suspicious of him, noticing his mask and seeing through it right away. After noting that he is lost inside, she warms up to him and bonds with him over her cat, Luci, tea, and their shared love of crime novels. Satan was also suspicious of her at the beginning, but after she warmed up to them and slowly started revealing herself, they gradually started drifting closer. They can sometimes be seen reading together with tea and biscuits.

Bee l- Ayano absolutely adores Beel. She thinks of him as a giant teddy bear and knew he was genuine from the start. Ayano stress-bakes and experiments with recipes from time to time, and asks Beel to taste test them. Beel was glad she apologized and started warming up to her after the custard incident. He loves her baking, and is fond of her, as they take a jog/work out together sometimes.

Belphie - Complicated. She doesn’t care for Belphie. Yes, she wanted to free him, only because she hates feeling trapped as well and disliked Lucifer’s choice of punishment. The fact he changed so quickly after finding out about Lilith made her dislike him even more. However for the boys’ sake, she is cordial to him. Belphie just *wants her to like him dammit*

17 • What is their relationship with each side characters?

Diavolo- Ayano likes Diavolo, not only is he a powerful ruler, he is a right and just one as well. Sometimes, if he asks, she’ll sing human world songs to him during tea with Barbatos. Ayano thinks of him as a kind man with *so many goddam secrets hidden inside.* Diavolo likes that Ayano entertains him on the human world, and is well-mannered and playful. He’s very interested on trying various exotic human world recipes as well.

Luke- She thinks of Luke as a chihuahua, or a little kid. Harmless and adorable. Ayano likes teasing Luke and baking sweets with him. He thinks of her as an older sister, and loves having her attention.

Solomon - During her time in the mafia, around age 20, she went and stopped by an under-hyped bar. She was really pissed that day, as one of her subordinates almost had everyone killed. So, she decided to buy some whiskey and find a hookup to relieve stress. After flirting and chatting with Solomon for an hour or so, they went back to her place.....In the morning, she woke up a bit early, slightly nauseous, but mostly ok. Solomon was still asleep at the time. After preparing some korean hangover soup, she went back to her room, only to find a signed note and Solomon's number. Ayano and Solomon are pretty much friends with benefits. They’re playful and mischievous, and sometimes stop by each other’s rooms at night for-...Anyways, Ayano has taken for Solomon and would do it again. Solomon thinks Ayano as an admirable person and interesting, so he sticks by her. You can see them at a casino, getting drinks, and watching Ayano’s insane luck wins her her hundreds of thousand at the end of the night.

Simeon- Ayano doesn’t trust Simeon, as he doesn’t really seem like an angel and is shady. After the play and seeing him being ruthless, she distances herself even more from him. Simeon wishes she would be closer with him, but is glad that Luke bonds with her.

Barbatos- You cannot convince her otherwise that Barbatos is not Sebastian Michaelis’ twin Oftentimes, she will help him around the kitchen or garden,, enjoying his company. Barbatos is glad that Ayano can help out, but keeps an eye on her due to her past. Very relieved she has good manners in public though. They both teach Luke to bake sweets, and are protective over him.

18 • What is your MC’s main hobbies and passions?

Hobbies: Reading, throwing knives, composing/listening/singing music, baking, food tasting, playing with cats, drinking wine, sketching/painting, gambling, and gardening. She is obsessed with Cerberus, and loves taking him for walks.

19 • Why do they ended up in Devildom in the first place? What happened to them?

Ayano made a deal with a business man (Barbatos) to go to Siberia for a year in order to make a demonology/mythology film, she was supposed to travel to Siberia when she fell asleep on the plane, to wake up in RAD. This isn’t too weird from what she’s experienced before, so she thought it would be an interesting and worthwhile experience. After all, she can’t really fight back against demons, so acceptance is the only option.

20 • What is your MC’s MBTI type?

Unknown. Ayano is more of a quiet extrovert. A great people person, but seems a tad cool and aloof at first. She’s very polite and all, but never let’s people in due to trust issues. Very perceptive and emotionally intelligent. Ayano was able to pick up on the boys’ true colors within a short time span. Is very intelligent and can offer worthwhile theories and conversations. To the people she loves, she is most like a lazy cat, affectionate, playful, and teasing.

21 • Do they have pact with each bro? Do they often use their pacts? In which situations?

Has pacts with all the brothers except for Belphegor. She cares for the brothers, and refuses to use the pacts in any way, shape, or form.

22 • What is their favorite place in Devildom?

Madam Screams, the royal library, the roof of the HoL, or the beach Diavolo made.

Wrath, she’s very much like Satan

24 • Describe their personality.

Constantly tries to analyze a person's every move. Keeps a polite mask on. She tries her best to stay calm in most situations and to find a way out. However, she is incredibly sadistic to people who have wronged her, preferring to use psychological torture. Often uses dark humor and keeps a knowing smile on her face. Tries to find a logical solution to every problem and is melodramatic around the people she cares about. She will tease you to oblivion and is a very playful character when you get to know her. Much like a cat, she is affectionate and likes to play around, sometimes flirtatious. She’s a total sweetheart when you get to truly know her though. Ayano however, is also very reasonable and knows when she's fucked up. For example, when Beel freaked out over the custard. She ordered 20 cups of custard from Madam Scream's that night for the next day. Ayano then presented it to him the next afternoon, offering her sincerest apologies. When she trusts someone, they have her absolute loyalty. She will guard their lives with hers and would take a bullet for them If they break her trust tho, they're pretty much dead to her and even though she is polite to them, they will never be close with her again. When she falls for someone, she falls hard. Loyalty is of upmost importance to Ayano.

Chaotic Neutral. Ayano doesn’t really follow the law, but has a clear set of morals and a bottom line.

Yes, tbh Ayano wasn’t surprised. If Lilith lived that long ago, than ⅓ of the population are her descendants. What makes her so special?

Yes, a calico cat with blue eyes named Luci, 4 years old.

Top 5 students in class. Usually second or third to Satan and Lucifer. Ayano absorbs knowledge pretty easily, and can also read a book fast. Is also a very helpful tutor. Describes and explains material in a brief manner.

36 • Do you think they have any other friends in Devildom aside the characters game? Or do they just stay with them?

Her mentor Cleo turned out to be a witch! So sleepovers, spa days, and movie binges with each other are a must! Also, Mephistopheles is a drinking partner from time to time. Don’t forget Solomon, who Ayano goes to for....stress relief.

Takoyaki, basically fried dough with octopus tentacles. Or Korean BBQ. Is obsessed with sweet and sour combos

38 • Do they have any specific talent? (artistic, random fact, etc)

She’s an artistic person, knowing what angles to take pics and lovesss sketching the boys. Baking is a stress thing, reading with tea is a pastime of hers. Likes trying out different nail art every week or so. Gardening or tending to plants is a must.

39 • Who is the person they rely on when not feeling well?

Cleo, she’s been Ayano’s mentor since age 13. The only one who knows her full, true self. A girl’s day out will ensue, or a girl’s day in, depending on what Ayano wants.

40 • How did they decorate their bedroom in the House of Lamentations? I mean, the game’s MC bedroom is cool but we all know it need customisation. If your MC does not live with the bros, just describe their bedroom.

Yes. Well not really, does investing in stocks and gambling count? By the end of week 2 in the Devildom, she has 10 million grimm in her account.

Ayano just went with the flow. It’s a whole new realm, how could she not be excited? Asks Cleo to show her around. It takes a week or two to fully adapt to the Devildom. She missed her cat, but luckily Cleo told her she was taking care of Luci at her human world flat. Kinda hated the fact that the HoL was full of 7 guys, but is in close contact with Cleo. The first night, she asked to go to a casino with Mammon and went from 250,000 grimm, to 1,000,000 grimm on her card.

45 • Do your MC’s relatives/friends know they are in Devildom? How do they deal with their absence? Tbh I’m just wondering what is happening during the exchange program since in the game, MC didn’t really choose to be there.

Well, everyone knew Ayano would be gone for a year, so they carried on fine. Her brother missed her expertise, but knew she’d be fine. Cleo brings her bills and contracts to finish up in the human world, and has hired a cleaner to come in once a month.

46 • How do they feel when they have to leave Devildom for the first time after their first one year exchange? Did they just return to the occupation they had before the exchange program? Did this experience change them? (Sorry these questions are more for human MC)

Ayano misses everyone terribly, and calls and texts everyone once or twice every week to update. She keeps in contact with Solomon to continue her magic lessons. Ayano just goes back to Japan like everything’s normal. Diavolo had a movie made during her time in the Devildom on some random mythology, which turned out to be a box office sensation. Everything is pretty much the same.

Yes, she’s been in the mafia, meaning she’s killed, stolen, and broken into houses.

Ayano sees herself as a horrible person. Being in the mafia, she’s done and seen horrifying things. She wishes to one day be able to see redemption in herself, that’s why she donates to charity and volunteers often. She wants to be seen as approachable and kind to others, albeit one not to mess with. Ayano dreams to be an inspiration for young children, showing that you can come up from nothing.

55 • What was your MC like as a child? Did they have a happy childhood?

Ayano grew up in an abusive household. Her father blamed her for her mother’s death, when in reality, he shot her while drunk and blamed Ayano as a coping method. Her brother was kept away from her, so he barely knew her. Ayano didn’t even know he remembered her at all. When she ran away at 13, she lived on the streets for some time, stealing food and clothing. Sometimes a kind person would give her some money or food, but most walked by or looked at her in disgust. One day, she managed to steal a silver necklace from her future mentor, Cleo. Cleo was a mafia boss’ daughter, and was impressed that Ayano could steal from her at all. After begging and persuasion, her father let Ayano join the mafia as her apprentice.

Ayano would most likely try and find a way to become immortal, in order to live in the Devildom. The brothers and undateables are her family pretty much. She’d ask Cleo if Luci can be brought down and made immortal as well.

Yes, after much begging and pleading from Luke, Simeon reluctantly agreed to let her into the Celestial Realm. She loves the food ofc, especially the fruit. She never met Michael because he was “on a business trip.”

A3: Favourite Protagonist(s)?

Kiryu, Majima, Saejima, Shinada, Ichiban.

Haruka is a fun protagonist to play as a well, I got very invested in my dance battles and being able to walk around without immediately having to be accosted by the thug patrol.

A5: Favourite Final Bosse(s)?

Kuze isn't a final boss but he's still a favourite so there.

Majima's fight with Lao Gui.

Ryuj's fight is SO GOOD. I love it.

Mine's fight is awesome. The music, the first dynamic intro in the series, the way he decently wrecks Kiryu..stellar.

I'm legally obligated to answer Aizawa here but tbh he really is an amazing boss fight. The several transitions, the way that Kiryu fights him all the way out of the Tojo Clan's HQ, so good.

I'm going to say Masayoshi Tanimura even though I like him BUT here's why I'm saying this. A great deal of his most engaging content is kept behind his side content. Some players don't do the side content *though I am definitely not one of them, I want ALL of the yakuza it has to offer, thank you*, but if a player was to do a speed run, there is a possibility that they'd find Tanimura a little flat. He's really bulked up in side content including his storyline with Little Asia, the immigrants and the detective he deals with, Saki.

After I revive Shintaro Kazama I'm dragging him up there, and demanding some ANSWERS.
