YEMENI ARMED FORCES PROMISE TO CONTINUE WITH OPERATIONS TARGETING ISRAELI-LINKED SHIPS IN RED SEA
In a statement issued by Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson, Brigadier General Yahya Sarea, Sarea said the Yemeni naval forces targeted a commercial vessel heading to port in the occupied territories of Palestine.
The strikes were carried out using "a number of suitable naval missiles" resulting in a direct hit on the targeted vessel, according to Sarea's statement.
"The targeting process came after the ship's crew rejected warning calls," Sarea added.
"The Yemeni Armed Forces are continuing to implement the decision to prevent Israeli navigation, or ships linked to the Israeli enemy" from navigation in the Red Sea "until the aggression stops and the siege is lifted on the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip."
Sarea said the Armed Forces of Yemen would continue to take "all defensive measures" and will continue to conduct strikes "within the right of legitimate defense of Yemen."
The statement emphasized Yemen's continued "practical solidarity" with "the oppressed Palestinian people," promising to continue with the Yemeni Armed Forces' operations in the Red Sea.

The United States and Britain carried out large-scale military strikes on Monday against eight sites in Yemen controlled by Houthi militants, according to the two countries. The strikes signaled that the Biden administration intends to wage a sustained and[...] open-ended campaign against the [...] group [...] The strikes [were] the eighth in nearly two weeks[...]
“Let us reiterate our warning to Houthi leadership: We will not hesitate to defend lives and the free flow of commerce in one of the world’s most critical waterways in the face of continued threat,” the American and British governments said in a statement.
They were joined in the statement by the Netherlands, Australia, Canada and Bahrain which, as they did in the Jan. 11 strikes, also participated, providing logistics, intelligence and other support, according to U.S. officials.
Taken together, however, the U.S.-led strikes, in an operation the military calls Poseidon Archer, have so far failed to deter the Houthis from attacking shipping lanes to and from the Suez Canal that are critical for global trade. The Iran-backed group says it will keep up its attacks in what it says is a protest against Israel’s [genocide] in Gaza[...]
Indeed, the Houthis remained defiant on Monday after the strikes [...] “Retaliation against American and British attacks is inevitable, and any new aggression will not go unpunished,” a Houthi military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, said in a statement before the latest American strikes.[...]
President Biden said on Thursday that U.S. airstrikes against the Houthis would continue. “Are they stopping the Houthis? No,” Mr. Biden said. “Are they going to continue? Yes.”[...]
But two U.S. officials cautioned a few days after the air campaign began that despite hitting more Houthi missile and drone targets with more than 150 precision-guided munitions, the strikes had damaged or destroyed only about 20 to 30 percent of the Houthis’ offensive capability, much of which is mounted on mobile platforms and can be readily moved or hidden.
A third senior official said on Monday that figure may have [sic] crept up to 30 to 40 percent after at least 25 to 30 precision-guided munitions successfully hit their targets on Monday. But other U.S. intelligence officials who have been briefed on the size and scope of the Houthis’ arsenal say analysts are not sure how much weaponry the group started with.[...]
“The key is we have to hurt the Houthis to a degree that they’ll stop,” Gen. Kenneth F. McKenzie Jr., a retired head of the military’s Central Command, said in an interview. “We haven’t done that yet.”

UK and US naval forces have repelled the largest attack yet by Yemen's Houthi rebels on Red Sea shipping, UK Defence Secretary Grant Shapps says.
Carrier-based jets and warships shot down 21 drones and missiles launched by the Iran-backed group overnight.
The Houthis said they targeted a US ship in retaliation for the killing of rebels who tried to attack a container ship by using speed boats last month.
Mr Shapps said he had "no doubt" that Iran was heavily behind such attacks.
Asked about possible Western strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen in response, he said: "Watch this space."
The Houthis have carried out 26 attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea since 19 November, according to the US military.
The group has claimed - often falsely - that it is targeting ships linked to Israel in protest at Israeli actions during the war in the Gaza Strip.
Houthis defiant after warning over Red Sea attacks
What do Red Sea assaults mean for global trade?
Listen: Who are the Houthi rebels - BBC Sounds
The US military said Iranian-designed one-way attack drones, anti-ship cruise missiles and anti-ship ballistic missiles were launched from Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen towards international shipping lanes in the southern Red Sea at around 21:15 local time (18:15 GMT) on Tuesday.
Eighteen drones, two cruise missiles and one ballistic missile were shot down by F/A-18 warplanes from the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D Eisenhower, which is deployed in the Red Sea, and by four destroyers, the USS Gravely, USS Laboon, USS Mason and HMS Diamond.
HMS Diamond shot down seven Houthi drones using its Sea Viper missiles and guns, a defence source told the BBC. Each of the missiles costs more than £1m ($1.3m).
No injuries or damage were reported.
Later, Houthi military spokesman Yahya al-Sarea confirmed that its forces had carried out an operation involving "a large number of ballistic and naval missiles and drones".
"It targeted a US ship that was providing support for the Zionist entity [Israel]," he said.
"The operation came as an initial response to the treacherous assault on our naval forces by the US enemy forces."
He added that the rebels would "not hesitate to adequately deal with all hostile threats as part of the legitimate right to defend our country, people and nation".
Mr Sarea also reiterated that the Houthis would continue to "prevent Israeli ships or ships heading towards occupied Palestine from navigating in both the Red Sea and the Arabian Sea until the [Israeli] aggression [on Gaza] has come to an end and the blockade has been lifted".
Something has to change in the Red Sea. The current situation is unsustainable, both economically and militarily. From a purely fiscal standpoint there is a massive mismatch between the cost of a Houthi drone (roughly £17,000) and a Royal Navy Sea Viper missile (£1m plus) used to destroy incoming missiles.
Different weapons are used by both sides, with the Houthis also deploying more expensive anti-ship ballistic missiles and uncrewed surface vessels (USVs), ie explosive boat drones. But thanks to Iranian help, the Houthis have a large supply of missiles and drones that they can use in a "swarm attack", hoping to overwhelm the air defences of Western warships.
A new report today by the UK defence think tank Rusi says the Houthis are likely being provided with intelligence by an Iranian surveillance ship in the Red Sea, the MV Behshad.
The pressure on the crews of warships now deployed on the US-led Operation Prosperity Guardian in the Red Sea is also immense. As former Royal Navy commanders have pointed out, there can be as little as 30 seconds' warning between the detection of an incoming supersonic missile and its impact.
These are all reasons why, if the Houthis persist in these attacks, then direct military action against them is possibly imminent.
Mr Shapps warned in a statement on Wednesday morning that the UK and its allies had "previously made clear that these illegal attacks are completely unacceptable and if continued the Houthis will bear the consequences".
"We will take the action needed to protect innocent lives and the global economy," he added.
Later, the defence secretary said in a TV interview that Iran was "behind so much of the bad things happening in the region" and warned the Islamic Republic and the Houthis that there would be "consequences" if the attacks on shipping did not stop.
Asked if there could be Western military action against Houthi targets in Yemen, or even targets inside Iran, he replied: "I can't go into details but can say the joint statement we issued set out a very clear path that if this doesn't stop then action will be taken. So, I'm afraid the simplest thing to say [is] 'watch this space'."
He was referring to a statement put out a week ago by the UK, US, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, South Korea and Singapore, who launched "Operation Prosperity Guardian" last month to protect Red Sea shipping.
They said the attacks posed "a direct threat to the freedom of navigation that serves as the bedrock of global trade in one of the world's most critical waterways".
Almost 15% of global seaborne trade passes through the Red Sea, which is linked to the Mediterranean by the Suez canal and is the shortest shipping route between Europe and Asia.
The fear is that fuel prices will rise and supply chains will be damaged.
The International Chamber of Shipping says 20% of the world's container ships are now avoiding the Red Sea and using the much longer route around the southern tip of Africa instead.
The Houthis say they have been targeting Israeli-owned or Israel-bound vessels to show their support for the Iran-backed Palestinian group Hamas since the start of the war in Gaza in October.
Formally known as the Ansar Allah (Partisans of God), the Houthis began as a movement that championed Yemen's Zaidi Shia Muslim minority.
In 2014, they took control of the capital, Sanaa, and seized large parts of western Yemen the following year, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in support of the international-recognised Yemeni government.
The ensuing war has reportedly killed more than 150,000 people and left 21 million others in need of humanitarian assistance.
Saudi Arabia and the US have accused Iran of smuggling weapons, including drones and cruise and ballistic missiles, to the Houthis, in violation of a UN arms embargo. Iran has denied the allegation.

Yemen’s Houthis say they targeted US, Israeli ships
Yemen’s Houthi group announced that it had attacked two US and Israeli ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean with drones, emphasising that “the two operations successfully achieved their goals”, Arab media reported.
Yahya Sarea, the group’s military spokesman, said in a video message late Wednesday night that the Houthis had struck the Maersk Yorktown cargo ship in the Gulf of Aden.
The US military confirmed that the Houthis launched an anti-ship ballistic missile from their territory at the vessel, which they said was “US-flagged, owned and operated, with 18 American and four Greek crew members on board.” The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement:
There were no injuries or damage reported by US, coalition, or commercial ships.
Greece’s Ministry of National Defence said on Thursday that one of the country’s warships participating in the European Union’s anti-Houthi naval mission in the Red Sea intercepted two drones launched towards a commercial vessel from Yemen.
The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) earlier confirmed the incident, which took place about 72 nautical miles (133 kilometres) southeast of the port of Djibouti in the Gulf of Aden.

[Spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Sarea gives a statement after the U.S. announces the sinking of four Yemeni Naval vessels.]
🇾🇪⚔️🇺🇸 ⛴️ ☠️ 🚨
💥AMERICAN AND YEMENI NAVIES CLASH IN THE RED SEA AFTER YEMENI NAVAL VESSELS TARGET ISRAELI COMMERCIAL VESSEL💥
United States Central Command reported earlier Sunday that "Iranian-backed Houthi" small boats targeted an Israeli commercial vessel in the Red Sea around 6:30am (Sana'a time) on Dec. 31st and a distress call was sent out, after which, helicopters were dispatched from the American military vessels, USS Eisenhower and Gravely.
According to the U.S. statement, issued on the social media platform X, four small Yemeni Naval vessels came within 20-meters of the commercial vessel, attempting to board the ship. Security teams on the commercial ship then engaged with the Yemeni vessels with small arms fire.
After the U.S. helicopters arrived, U.S. CENTCOM claims, the Yemeni Naval vessels fired on the U.S. helicopters, which returned fire, sinking the four small Yemeni Naval vessels.
The Yemeni Armed Forces didn't challenge this version of events, adding that 10 Yemeni Naval personnel were killed. However, in a video statement (above) issued by Yemeni Armed Forces spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Sarea, the Yemeni side noted that the Yemeni vessels attempted repeatedly to contact the commercial vessel by radio, and issued several warning before engaging with the ship.
"The targeting process came (only) after the ship's refusal to respond to warning calls from the Yemeni Navy," Sarea said in the statement.
"The Yemeni Armed Forces confirms what was stated in her previous statements regarding the passage of all Israeli vessels or vessels headed to the ports of occupied Palestine. With its full concern for maritime navigation to all destinations except for the Israeli entity," General Sarea added.
Sarea goes on to caution other countries and advises them not to be drawn into any American plans aimed at igniting conflict in the Red Sea, and warned the Yemeni Armed Forces would "not hesitate to confront any aggression against our country and our people."
He goes on to call on the Yemeni people to be alert and prepare for all possibilities for the sake of confronting American aggression, and points to America's complicity in Israeli crimes as a supporter of the Israeli entity.
Previously, the Yemeni Armed Forces warned it would attack any Israeli or other commercial vessels headed to or from ports in occupied Palestine. This has enforced a blockade on the Israeli entity, preventing a large portion of Israeli commercial trade from taking place and doing serious harm to Israel's economy.
U.S. Forces claim the Ansarallah movement-led Yemeni Armed Forces have launched more than 100 drone and missile strikes targeting commercial vessels in the Red Sea, resulting in the creation of a U.S.-led coation of mostly unenthusiastic Western-backers of the U.S. and Israel.

U.S. Strikes Houthi Targets in Yemen for a Third Time
The Houthis so far have been undeterred. On Tuesday, the Houthis fired an anti-ship ballistic missile into the Red Sea, hitting the Zografia, a Maltese-flagged, Greek-owned bulk carrier, Central Command said. The ship’s crew reported no injuries. The vessel remained seaworthy, and continued its journey, the military said. A Houthi spokesman, Yahya Sarea, said in a statement that the group had…

Up to 52 people are reported to have on board the Galaxy Leader vehicle carrier when she was seized. It comes after the Houthis - based in Yemen - vowed they would target all ships owned by Israel or flying their flag in the Red Sea. Israeli officials confirmed the rebels had taken over the ship that is partially owned by one of their companies, according to Axios. However, the IDF went on to deny the ship was Israeli. The exact ownership of ships is often difficult to discern due to various different companies owning stakes in or leasing the vessels. It is understood there are no Israeli nationals onboard the massive vehicle carrier. The ship has not reported its position on ship tracking services for 26 hours. Lebanon-based outlet Al Mayadeen reported there were 52 people on board the ship when it was seized. It is flagged to the Bahamas - and the nationality of the crew on board is unknown. Other reports stated the number of crew was 22. Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said: "The hijacking of the cargo ship by the Houthis near Yemen in the southern Red Sea is a very serious event on a global level. "This is a ship that left Turkey on its way to India with an international civilian crew, without Israelis." Houthi spokesman Yahya Sarea demanded all countries withdraw their citizens from working on Israeli ships. And after news broke of the ship hijacking, he said the group would release a statement in the "coming hours". The ship is reportedly owned by Israeli shipping businessman Rami Ungar.

Houthis launched missile strike on US ships and Israel’s Eilat
Yahya Sarea, the group’s military spokesman, said on Tuesday that Yemeni Houthis launched a missile attack on the MADO fuel tanker in the Red Sea and cruise missiles at the Israeli port and resort region of Eilat.
The MADO tanker was carrying Marshall Islands-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Singapore from Saudi Arabia, maritime shipping trackers showed. Houthis labelled it as American, but the Equasis ship database shows it belongs to Greek company Naftomar Shipping & Trading Co Ltd. Naftomar did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Iranian Houthi militants have repeatedly launched drones and missiles at international commercial ships in the Red Sea region since mid-November, saying they were acting in solidarity with Palestinians opposed to Israel’s military attack in Gaza.
The attacks have disrupted global shipping, forcing companies to make longer and more expensive voyages across southern Africa.
The US and Britain and other naval forces retaliated against Houthi targets.

Drone attacks at an Oil company in Saudi Arabia
In the footage I saw, a huge blaze at Abqaiq, site of Aramco's largest oil processing plant, Saudi Aramco is a Saudi Arabian Oil Company, while a second drone attack started fires in the Khurais oilfield.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks in Buqyaq and the Khurais oil field, though Yemen's Houthi rebels previously launched drone assaults deep inside.
The fires are now under control at both facilities, state media said, based on the internet web page I saw.
It wasn't clear if there were any injuries in the attacks, nor what effect it would have on oil production. The attack also likely will heighten tensions further across the wider Persian Gulf in the middle of a confrontation between the US and Iran over its unraveling nuclear deal with world powers.
A spokesman for the Iran-aligned Houthi group in Yemen said it had deployed 10 drones in the attacks.
Online videos apparently shot in Buqyaq included the sound of gunfire in the background and flames shooting out of the Abqaiq oil processing facility. Smoke rose over the skyline and glowing flames could be seen a distance away.
The military spokesman, Yahya Sarea, told al-Masirah TV, which is owned by the Houthi movement and is based in Beirut, that further attacks could be expected in the future.
The fires began after the sites were "targeted by drones," the Interior Ministry said in a statement carried by the state-run Saudi Press Agency. It said an investigation into the attack was underway.
He said that the attack was one of the biggest operations the Houthi forces had undertaken inside Saudi Arabia and was carried out in "cooperation with the honorable people inside".
Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil giant, did not immediately respond to questions from The Associated Press. The kingdom hopes soon to offer a sliver of the company in an initial public offering.
Based on the internet web page, the Saudi officials have not yet commented on who they think is behind the attacks.
The plant has been targeted in the past by militants. Al-Qaida-claimed suicide bombers tried but failed to attack the oil complex in February 2006.
They said that "At 04:00 (1:00 GMT), the industrial security teams of Aramco started dealing with fires at two of its facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais as a result of... drones," the official Saudi Press Agency reported.
This could affect our resources of oil not only in their country, but also the other countries. Because oil or petroleum and other are now increasing the price. This means we need to conserve it.

NEWS UPDATE: Why we attacked 3 Saudi oil refineries with 9 bomb-laden drones – Yemen’s Houthi militia
Yemen’s Houthi militia said on Friday gave reasons they had attacked three Saudi oil refineries with nine bomb-laden drones. “The attacks targeted the Aramco refineries in the Saudi cities of Riyadh, Jazan and Abha,’’ Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea said in a statement aired by the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV. Sarea explained that the attacks were in response to what he claimed, the Saudi…
