The X Files was so wild because like, sometimes it took classic folklore and cryptids and did an episode on them, but sometimes it took classic folklore and myths and pretended to do an episode on them. Like sometimes there’s an episode on Bigfoot or whatever, but SOMETIMES there’s an episode on el chupacabra that goes “what if el chupacabra wasn’t a creature but actually an enzyme from yellow rain that creates a massive and overwhelming fungus that only certain people have immunity to” or an episode on mothman that goes “what if we threw out every established fact about mothman except the red eyes and made them incredibly well camouflaged tree-barked skin humanoids who also happened to be the remaining crew of the historical figure conquistador Ponce de Leon?”

uh so long story short I’m towards the end of season 8 of x files right now (this is my first time watching the show) . I was a bit confused about something and since I was half asleep for the better part of the episode I’m currently watching (oops) I figured I probably just missed something. So, I decided to just quickly google my question, finish the episode, and then go to bed.

Big mistake.

Big mistake because instead of an answer to the question I typed into my search bar I got a spoiler. Usually I’m not the type of girl who cares about those sort of things. In fact, a lot of the time I seek “spoilers” out. But the spoiler in question was regarding the true parentage of the baby Scully is currently carrying and

my problem with the x files mytharc isn't that it's messy or dense or basically unexplainable (it's all of these things), but rather that in the end it creates a plot that is almost the antithesis of the rest of the show. The reveal that alien colonization is imminent, there is no hope for the future, countless cruelties have been made and endured on all sides only for the end to come just as feared. Nearly everyone Mulder and Scully love dies, literally 6 out of their 8 immediate family members. They have to give up their son. Their health, happiness, and even existence in the eyes of society are thrown away. But the worst part of it all is how Mulder and Scully are pulled apart. How a show could set up the ability of their characters to persist, even without hope, but to live each day and choose to fight when the odds are stacked against them. To find solace in those who understand, to choose to live each day bravely and to love even after enduring loss, even with the guarantee of loss in the future. To believe in a better future, even when knowing that it's impossible. But no. Instead, they are torn apart by the darkness, and left alone in a world without hope.

the x files mulder scully romance is like the ultimate queerbait style storyline but for straight people. theure in love like 3 seasons in but the show doesn’t admit it for 6 more years .. they’re totally completely WRECKED when the other one gets hurt/abducted/etc… extended hand holding …… longing glances …… MULDER BEING THE ONLY ONE SCULLY CALLED WHEN SHE FOUND OUT ABOUT HER CANCER IN SEASON 4….. and of course all the just outright flirting…… THE BASEBALL EPISODE!!!! they (probably) had a biological son together before the show ever really admits they’re together in any official capacity like… ok chris carter

Season 2 of X Files said Fox Mulder is going to be so sad and be such a kicked puppy this season. Scully really was the only thing holding him back from being just a brat to all his bosses. Make the pathetic boy just so so sad. They literally are that couple where the wife goes on vacation and he sews all his socks together bc she is his impulse control, except instead of a vacation she is in a coma and instead of sewing his sock together he points a gun at the FBI top brass.

Men(Mulder) will literally try to take down the US military and FBI before going to therapy(crying about his friend dying).

the only part of the xfiles i ever spoiled for myself was mulder getting abducted and honestly i think that was god looking out for me bc if i had to experience that with no warning i would've thrown up
